BYOB! Yaaaaaaaaaasssss. They've been around for something like twenty years and they are my favorite secret-weapon date spot. Its really genuine and cozy and not try-hard, just authentic and YUM. Love the unlimited Korea dish sides ^.^ mmmmm kimchi. I was just traveling in Korea & Japan, and when I am missing my travels, Say Sushi is my go-to for finding the best to choose from both cuisines.

This place is simple and good place to grab a quick bite of sushi. The quality is okay, not great. Everything was just A-OK.

Decent place where the chef/waiter was very friendly. It is byob with no corkage. That's a huge plus in my book. The food was decent. The special rolls are not too interesting but the spicy salmon/tuna rolls are great. The spicy sauce is not just your creamy sriracha mayo sauce, it is aactually a little spicy and the sauce was tasty. Miso soup was not too salty (always judge the miso). The Hweh dup bap was really good and the portion is good. There are definitely hits and misses at this place, but my experience was positive overall.

I was pleasantly surprised that State College area has a decent Korean restaurant. I completely agree w/ Mary L in the recommendation to come here for Korean food only. After sitting in the restaurant for one and half hour, my ear only picked up Korean [ watching English subtitled movies paid off after all : ) Service was ok - They do need more wait staff (as indicated by the Hiring Ad on the door) For my order, I ordered 1 rainbow row + 1 Korean tofu soup. The sushi roll was just ok - but since I just ate from Tsunami in Chicago downtown last week, my taste bud may still be too picky : D Tofu soup was pretty good. Kimchi was average though. I didn't particular like the chewy seaweed. Overall, good affordable meal! Would heartily recommend for any visitors to this area!

Err, I wasn't too impressed with the sushi or the bento boxes, and probably wouldn't go back.

I always went here during my freshman year because the dining commons got real nasty real quick! While it's not the best Korean food I've had, it's the best there is without having to drive or take the bus. I highly recommend their daegu jiri, soon dubu jjigae, and bibimbap!

The best sushi joint in all of State College.... which isn't saying much but coming from LA, I still find it enjoyable. The decor leaves a bit to be desired, but it's not bad enough to make you uncomfortable, on the contrary, it almost feels homey with the soft music and extremely friendly staff.

I've heard good things about Say Sushi in the past so we decided to try it out. We order a combination of Korean and Japanese food. What you see in front of me are some kind of Japanese udon noodles. The broth was warm and hit the spot but it could have been more flavourful. My lady friend ordered seafood tofu soup which was good but not as good as the one we had in Kimchi Korean Restaurant. Overall, this meal was satisfying but unspectacular. I would recommend Kimchi if you crave some good Korean food.

Say Sushi is my number one destination spot when headed back to State College. Unless you are trying to spend meal points on your date, Say Sushi is the best way to go. It's small and cozy and its BYOB. Really as good as it gets, the staff is very friendly as long as you are friendly. If you are looking for a bougie sushi joint with dim lighting and expensive menu, go somewhere else. This is good cheap sushi and damn good times.

I was disappointed that the bento box included less than at Fuji and Jade. The Miso soup tasted very processed and the server neglected our waters. The food was fine but nothing special. I would only recommend it if you don't want to walk all the way to Fuji and Jade and you really need Japanese food.

Appalling. That's what I call their food. A Japanese restaurant opened by Koreans? I've heard this story told before, and it never ends well. This restaurant does have a pretty convenient location. It's right downtown on Allen Street, across from the Allenway Apartments. Too bad that it sucks though. I came here one night for a quick dinner. At around 9pm, there was no one else in the restaurant, so I thought that I'd at least get good service. Don't jump to conclusions. When I looked at the menu, their prices were pretty comprable to Japanese restaurants in real cities, so that was a rough start already. Say Sushi also does have a Korean menu, which to be honest, I'd trust a whole lot more than their Japanese food. The funny thing is that when I ordered a roll, they gave me some Korean appetizer dishes to start off with. I've never had that before, but I'm not the kind of guy to turn down free kimchee either. The food here tastes mediocre at best. If I were to make a comparison, I would say it rivals Panda Express. Service? Well, there isn't much. I tried to call a waitress over for 10 minutes to get my check, only to have no luck. I guess talking it up with the other workers is more important. Thus, I had to go up and pretty much do everything on my own. Save yourself the pain and agony and go somewhere else.

It's tough reading all the negative comments about this place. Obviously you are not going to find the best sushi you have ever had in STATE COLLEGE PENNSYLVANIA but there are definitely rolls on the menu that are well worth it. This place is a great spot to go with a date or a few friends and eat something before going out. There are no more than 15 tables in the restaurant making it a small and local spot and it is BYOB so drinks are as cheap as they can be.

I had the worst date of my life at this restaurant back in college, so I rarely eat here for fear of conjuring up bad memories. But I recently came back to catch up with a friend over sushi and wine, which was a much better experience than listening to some guy talk about his roommate's sex life and quote obscure movies. And then having his card declined. Back to the topic at hand... The sushi here is actually good...if you don't get raw fish. The rolls are small but the rice is done pretty much perfectly. So things like eel & avocado roll are safely delicious. Unfortunately, the fish is not very fresh. Since most of us sushi-lovers are into the raw stuff, that's a huge blow against Say Sushi. The non-sushi items like dumplings, tempura, and the Korean dishes are pretty good though. I actually think that if they changed their name to something that didn't suggest that sushi was the main focus here, people would view them much more positively. I also think their prices are too high for the small portions and so-so quality. Our server was nice, but when I told her I didn't know how to use the type of corkscrew she gave me properly, she told us that she didn't either and the kitchen was too busy to help. Um, is this a BYOB or what? After she saw our incredulous facial expressions, she said she would see if someone in the kitchen was willing, and they were, so it turned out fine. But really, next time I might just BYOcorkscrew...

I really wanted to like Say Sushi. It's right across the street from my apartment, making it a perfect lunch takeout option. I had no idea what to eat there (I don't like sushi), so I ordered their lunch special of Bibimbap (see picture). I guess that what happens when there's no picture on the menu. It was hot white rice, with raw vegetables (carrots, spinash and lettuce), an egg on top and unseasoned tofu on the side. I was a little disappointed, but eh it's my fault for not asking more details. There wasn't any sauce on it, which was odd, but after adding the brown sauce and the spicy sauce it tasted ok. The place is small, it about 8 tables on a small mezzanine and some extra tables right by the entrance and the window. It feels cramped a little, especially for lunch. Service was excellent. I'll probably go back again, with better advice and recommendations from Korean friends. At this point it's hard to give a good review (other than it was cheap for lunch). How do you give a review for raw vegetables and an egg?

Went here after my first bad hankering for sushi in State College. In addition to the nigiri being warmed, off-color, and overpriced, you'd think that being the only customers in the store the service would have been better. Now I stick to Wegman's.

I went there last month for lunch. Sushi is okay but the sashimi is nightmare. They keep their sashimi in fridge and my sashimi still has ice inside the meat...This means the sashimi has been outside the fridge for a while and put back to the fridge again.Highly DANGEROUS and UNACCEPTABLE.

I loooooove SUSHI, and I was SO excited to find a sushi restaurant in State College. However, upon tracking the place down, I was disappointed. Someone had recommended that I HAD to get a certain roll that the restaurant is known for (Volcano roll??), but I was told that they were out of it when I ordered it... (sigh) How can you be OUT of a type of roll?? Anywho, I settled for my usual order of Tuna Roll and Salmon Roll, but the food was horrible. The fish was warm and tasted a bit rotten, I feared for my life while I was eating it. Also, the cook loaded so much wasabi INSIDE of the roll that I couldn't even enjoy the taste of the sushi. My eyes watered the entire time as I gagged down the sushi. Why don't they just put the wasabi on the side so that I can add as much (or as little) as I want? Prices weren't too bad, but quality was definitely lacking. Won't be going back.

sushi's as good as it's going to be anywhere in state college. usually six pieces to a roll, not 8. just because it's the namesake don't mean it's all they got, yo. SC is not exactly a sushi haven. however, there is a cute waitress there that is always like HEY ALEX TRY THIS ITS DA SHIZNIK, and that type of guide is always welcome. food: their miso is, well, miso. i've had the oyakadon donburi, the bibimbap, and i just had the jeyook bokum which came highly recommended. spiced pretty right; leaves a burn in your mouth but not that painful awful overly salty hot, that kind of hot that asian cultures are like WE DONT NEED NO ANTIBACTERIAL SOAP CAUSE DIS SPICY STUFF'LL KILL IT, only adapted to the american palette. still damn good. mmm, good side dishes, good service, good lunch specials, hell yeah.

The price is not cheap at all for sushi with such a small size. And one thing I am already sure is that you wont be able to find any good place to eat sushi in State College, never expect it! at least from the existing places here. Hopefully there will be a godsend that will open a good sushi restaurant, that is actually a real japanese restaurant that serves japanese and japanese dishes only. NO CHINESE FOOD! NO KOREAN! JUST JAPANESE! That will put a good first impression. The restaurant itself is cool. Clean, orderly, and the servers are nice. This section saves the day for my review.

I love this place for lunch. There sushi is okay, not as diverse a sushi selection as you can find other places in town, but there Korean food is amazing. Now this is coming from an American who hasn't eaten a lot of Korean food, so I can't speak to the authenticity of their food with much confidence, but they have me convinced. I have had several dishes there that I really enjoyed, which I want bother trying to guess the name of. The restaurant itself is small and quiet but bright during the day and very comfortable place to go. It's worth a try if you are looking for a change from your usual go-to Asian food destination. We usually go there when we can't agree on a place because there is quite a variety on the menu.

Little did I know, at the ripe age of 20, that Say Sushi would set the bar (pretty freaking high) for what would become my (7-year and counting) obsession with Korean food. I want to say that it may have something to do with the fact that I served there for a year and a half and then got fired because I "give headache" - but it really has everything to do with the love and the care that was put into the preparation and cooking of their hot Korean dishes. Agreed, the sushi leaves much to be desired - but, really, what do you expect when you're smack-dab in the center of Pennsylvania, surrounded by mountains? Each of their authentic dishes is packed with its own different and striking flavors - the Yue Kae Jang, Haemul Soon Doo Boo, Je Yuk Bokum and Ojing Uh Bokum are at the top and if you're in the mood for something more on the sweet side - with hints of teriyaki, then try the Jap Che. Words can't even describe my love of their dishes and their comfort - the side dishes each pack their own punch, with probably the best selections I've ever had. Order Bim Bim Bab and you get a caddy of endless go chu jang and sesame oil. If there's any reason to visit my alma mater - it's only to eat at Say Sushi again.

Well, other reviewers have complained about the sushi. I must confess: I did not eat the sushi here. However, I have had several of their various spicy pork dishes, and they were all extremely delicious. Say Sushi is not cheap, alas, but I've always enjoyed it for a nice night out, an unpretentious date, and some seriously good (and spicy!) food. It's also convenient to walk to from downtown, and yet off the beaten path enough that it's never over crowded, nor is your date interrupted by streams of drunk frat boys screeching as they tumble past.

So far, this is the best place in State College for Korean food. That's right, you read that correctly (I'm giving Soeul Garden another shot, so stay tuned for that review). Don't go here for the sushi unless you're desperate. Not to say that the sushi is bad, I'm just saying that it's not the best, but maybe I'm picky. HOWEVER, I went with a group of people and we each ordered off the Korean menu and I was SO relieved to find another spot in State College with good Asian food. I ordered my Soon Tofu Jigae, the spicy tofu casserole, and it hit the spot. Very flavorful as Korean soups usually are, and they used the silky tofu which is more authentic. My friend ordered the Bul Gol Gi (shredded marinated beef with assorted veggies) in the hot stoneware bowl and that was good too. The rice touching the bowl gets kind of crunchy and it's fun to eat. You squirt some hot sauce over it and mix everything together for some spicy goodness. I went back and ordered the regular Bul Gol Gi which doesn't come with the hot stoneware bowl and it just wasn't as fun or tasty. Okay, I was being cheap but I'm not making the mistake next time! I also had to ask for more meat because a tablespoon of beef just isn't going to cut it for me. The Jap Chae (clear noodles) and Spicy Squid dishes were also really good. I went with international students from China, Hong Kong, and Korea, and we all agreed it was good. In terms of comfort, those of you who get cold easily should watch out for the table under the vents b/c it gets chilly. Also, if you get seated at a table by the window, there's a chance you'll be forgotten about but you just get your ass up and ask for what you need.

The price is cheap for sushi as the portions are small as well. Basically you get what you pay for. I ordered the sashimi dinner, it's so-so, as there were 6 slices of salmon as normally it's 3 slices salmon and 3 slices of something else. The rice came with the dinner was not sushi rice, and the rice need to be cooked little better as well. I've also ordered a dragon roll, it's a small roll, which was cut into 7 pieces, (not the usual 8). Also, instead of cover the roll with avocado, only a strip of avocado slices were put on the top. It taste fine.

I love Say Sushi. I've been eating here for a long time, and it's one of my favorite restaurants in State College. It's a cozy place, and the people are friendly. It's not super fancy, but I love it. As for the food, I've really enjoyed the sushi rolls I've tried, particularly the spider (softshell crab roll) and the philadelphia roll. The Korean food is also very good- the hwe dup bap, and dol sat bibim bap are delicious. I would definitely recommend them.

I used to be a waitress here...so I'm partial...but I think it's the best Korean food in State College. The sushi isn't bad either. Service isn't so great, but they are always short-staffed and the owners don't speak English very well. So, my suggestion is to go during non-peak hours and order the Korean food--you won't be disappointed! ^^
