Middle of the road pub fare. Greek chutney served as a "complimentary starter." This makes no sense since the menu has no Greek influence aside from a rather bland, bastardized chicken gyro. Our party included a bride and groom. The bride was wearing an after-party white dress. Our waitress accidentally spilled an entire tray of food, covering the wall, floor, and bride's dress with food, ketchup, and ranch dressing. There's no faulting the waitress here; it was clearly an unfortunate and embarrassing accident and she recovered with grace and professionalism. However, we expected the manager to come out and check in with us and, perhaps, make an attempt at reconciling the accident with our friend who was doused with condiments. The staff was informed of this, by the way. No such thing occurred. Not a word. This was most disappointing and, frankly, aggravating to many at our table. While the staff demonstrated professional and attentive service, the management was MIA. Clearly the management needs better training in basic customer service. Perhaps take a lesson from the staff?? Would not recommend.

My sister and I happened upon The University Grille, this past Saturday night. We were greeted by a very friendly Host, who made us feel welcome and offered us a choice of places to dine. We chose the patio and were led outside. Shortly after being seated, we were greeted by our server, a very friendly young man whose name is Josh. We were undecided about what we wanted , from food to beverages. Josh was very patient and helpful, answering all of our many questions. We decided on a few appetizers and didn't wait long to receive them. To make a very long story much shorter; we were not happy with all of our food, but Josh quickly tried to make it right. A few minutes later Mitchell, the manager, stopped by our table to see how things were. When we told him the truth, he quickly sprang into action. It was obviously his mission to right what was wrong and to turn our experience into a positive one. And he did just that! He suggested two appetizers to try and they were both hits. We both were very impressed with Mitchell and his staff. I believe that the staff of any restaurant is the direct reflection of it's management and the University Grille has proven that.

In town for a business meeting, staying at Shippen Place, ate @ the University Grille. Enjoyed the meal. Everything cooked to order, would definitely come back.

Just as I entered the main lobby, I could already tell what kind of place this was going to be. The type of place that charges too much for its portions, that don't happen to be all that good in the first place. I went with two others, and our meals consisted of a side salad/ appetizer of beef tips, an Asian chicken salad, and some sort of chicken sandwich. The beef tips are laughably small on a comically large plate. The side salad she had with it was also quite tiny. My Asian salad was of decent size, but hardly worth the $8, and the chicken sandwich was dry. The entire meal plus a beer and two sodas came to just under $50. Way too much money for the quantity or quality. The food selection in not what you expect to find a place that is sporting TVs showing NASCAR. Lower the prices, revamp the many to something like Quaker Steak and Lube and bring in more customers.

May 27th, 2015. Nicole served an excellent Vodka Martini, the signature Tomato Bisque Soup, and the Greek Salad add the Shrimp. As the Germans say, "Mittagessen war lecker", Lunch was tasty. Then Ashley C. made a delicious Cafe Americano with a Blueberry Scone. Wonderful! I will be back.

They really need to consider staffing when they hold events. My aunt and I came here for a live music event consisting of 3 bands. We had to take a standing table because of the crowd (which was fine) but was told a server would be out. We stood around for about 10 minutes before anybody even approached us. While waiting for a server, my aunt went in to ask for a beer list or what was on tap and the host just gave her another menu (which didn't include all of the beer on tap). He just seemed a bit clueless. While our waitress was kind, she didn't come by very often at all. We had to chase her down to pay the bill at the end of the night. I'm beginning to see this is true of most bars in this college town but the mixed drinks here are weak. I'd much rather pay for a quality alcoholic beverage then get a "better price" with almost no liquor in the drink. We ordered boneless wings and we have different opinions of "spicy" so we settled on "mild." She said she could feel the heat but I detected nothing but breaded chicken. I guess I figured mild would come in some sort of wing sauce.

This restaurant is by far the best in Shippensburg. I have lived in the town for about 4 years now and when it was the Black Horse Tavern it was a terrible restaurant. It changed owernship probably about a year ago and since then has raised the bar for dining in the town. They offer great specials for the college kids and delicious food if you are looking for a nice meal. The tavern has a nice homey feel and the dining rooms are nice but not too formal. The servers are very nice and very helpful. The food is a little more expensive than other places in town but defintaly worth the money.

We had dinner here before and was excited to come again for another good meal. What a disappointment. That's the least to say. Though the place was slow maybe 6 to 8 customers it took forever to get our food. When the French onion soup arrived it was luke warm and mine had a BIG bay leaf in it. My wife's was cold too. But we overlooked that because things do happen and as long as it took to get there we were not going to send it to a microwave death. I ordered the French dip with the auju. The auju was cold and the grease was clumped together floating on top. The sandwich smelled awful like sour meat or bad onions. One taste and I spit it out. Something was horribly wrong with that sandwich. The waitress smelled it and turned her nose away quickly as it was very pungent. I asked to see the manager and he acted if I were crazy and nothing was wrong with my food. As a matter of fact he ate the same thing just that morning. Good to know my sandwich meat was made early that morning and could of never soured in the 12 hours later I received it. We wont be going back again.

First off the wings are good but were suppose to be like 20 cents a peice but went up to 10 wings for $4.20. They are good but it takes forever to get them!! The service is slow and sometimes not that great. I asked the manager for the price on a salad and he said he wasnt sure and that it wasnt in the menu it would be in the new ones. He was rude and rolled his eyes. Its always dark and very loud you cant talk if you want to talk this isnt the place to go. Also they always run out of stuff. Thier portions are small for the prices. All in all a last resort.

Just going to keep this short and sweet. I have been to the "UGrille" many times. Love the atmosphere. The bartenders are wonderful. The portion sizes are perfect. It is a little pricey, but if you go and get the specials, it is comparable to other local restaurants. Absolutely reccomend to anyone in the area.

My BIG and I decided to go and get a small meal here tonight before heading back to campus. It was dead and we were happily seated in a booth near the bar. We decided to get wings as an appetizer so we got 20 mild wings for $14 which doesn't sound great. To my surprise, however, the wings were served on a bed of fries. While I admire the concept, the wings themselves, were dry. And the ranch tasted like Hidden Valley or a cheap store knock off. It was alright though, then the burger came and for $6 it was huge! It was a good value for the price. Yet the burger was also dry and the bacon was just so. The waitress however was good, though I don't remember her mentioning her name (she was a shorter blonde girl). She was very nice, made sure we enjoyed our food, and refilled our drinks regularly. All in all for my first time it certainly wasn't bad and I would like to return some night for Taco Tuesdays or Wing Wednesdays. The food was alright so I'll try something different the second time around. They did surprise me though they gave us little packs of cookies to go which was cute!

For the prices, this is crap. 3 visits, 2 disappointments. Kitchen does not know how to prepares a steak, so I doubt they know much beyond fryer mastery. Medium-rare = medium-well. Margarita pizza = canned pizza sauce with a few leaves of basil. Fish and chips...who uses corn dog batter for fish? Just gross. Stick to simple fare.

This place has gone downhill over the past year or so. We ate here about a year ago and observed that portions had shrunk and food quality was subpar for the money compared to many previous dining experiences. But, we remembered how good food was several years ago (Dave was the mgr) and we figured that one experience was a fluke under the new management. Guess what???? The University Grille is off the our list of choices for Franklin & Cumberland county dining. First the Calamari appetizer is about half the size you get at any other restaurant, and they had no hot sauce to go with it when asked---how does this happen in a "wing hotspot"? Salads were ok, but they were out of rasberry vinaigrette dressing and made no attempt to offer fresh ground pepper which you would expect in any "upscale" dining establishment. On to the entrées, my wife's $22 "Blackened Salmon" would barely tip the scales at 5oz. and it was so over done that it was nearly white around the edges. My $25 NY strip was a very reasonable portion, but was medium well rather than medium rare as ordered. Lastly and perhaps worst as we were celebrating a school accomplishment with our daughter, the meatballs on her spaghetti were so hard that I bounced one off the table for our waitress with a resounding "crack"!!! Needless to say, we didn't bother to order desert. This restaurant has all the charm and decor of a top restaurant but is so poorly run that it is at best a sports bar suitable for catching a few drinks and gnawing on a few wings...sans the hot sauce!

Kind of bullshit service, but good food. We waited for an hour and half once for seating and they seated several people before us who got there after us basically because they were older and we were college students. HELLO, you're a college bar in a college town, don't piss off the students. The do have the best wing special in town. The wings are good and their hot sauce is hot as hell. They also have a special on Lager that night. Some of their waiters I've had weren't the brightest or the quickest but once I told the manager my mouth was on fire for 30 minutes and I couldn't find the waiter he sent us a round of Lagers for free. They screw some stuff up but it's not a bad place.

So I've gone back a few times since and it's improved greatly. This is a very fun place to drink in Ship. I still think their menu is a weak and over prices (and the brunch menu is terrible). Still when it's warm drinking cheap pitchers on the patio is a blast. They have cheap martini night and plenty of nights with cheap beer. The bartenders and servers are always great and make great drinks. It's also relatively classy so when I go back to visit Ship I don't have to do the college bar thing, I can have a relaxing (some might say chill) drink with friends. But really, besides a few of the burgers I think the menu could use work. For brunch i got crab dip, and that was fine, if not slightly over cooked. However the omelet was tiny and not filling. However, the $3 Bloody Mary's and Mimosa were too enticing to pass up.

One of Shippensburg's premiere dining options, the University Grille offers an uptown taste for those who want a break from the rural setting of town. The food is pricier than other places in town, but you get what you pay for. Lunch is more reasonable than dinner if you're low on funds, and you get a decent portion size for your money.

Nice restaurant in the heart of Shippensburg. Food was very good. The menu is small, but they have a variety of unique choices ranging from burgers to seafood. Great bar area with good daily specials and several craft beers on tap. Service was friendly and very good. Little pricey, but the best choice in Shippensburg for a better restaurant.

The good: outdoor seating on the patio is nice. The sweet potato fries were tasty. The bad: the rest of the food we ordered. It wasn't anything special, which is a real bummer because there aren't a whole lot of choices for better dining in Ship. I ordered the fish tacos, which turned out to be a blue tortilla shell that had about a tablespoon of fish, a green salsa, and.....cole slaw? My Ma-in-law ordered a grilled shrimp salad that had shrimp so spicy she couldn't eat it. When she mentioned this to the waiter AND the manager, both responded with "sorry", but no effort was made to make the order right. I was a little stunned. Unfortunately, this was a swing and a miss.
