As a Wilkes-Barrean, my Thai haunt is Thai Thai, which I love to pieces. You just can't been their atmosphere and their amazing food. I heard good things about Thai Rak Thai, and was excited to see if they matched up to Thai Thai. Service was excellent but I wasn't sold on the food. My entree tasted a bit too much of fish-sauce, which isn't my favorite flavor. The chicken satay was okay, though a little pricy for 3 skewers. I also wasn't wow'd by the interior of the restaurant. That said, it wasn't a bad meal.

By far the best Thai restaurant in Scranton for what that is worth. No but seriously, the wait staff are all super friendly and remember their regulars and if you celebrate a birthday here, your in for a treat! it's more embarassing then anything else but then again what birthday at a restaurant isn't? Personal favorite dishes include the Thai flat bread with chicken curry and the pineapple fried rice which is one of the best I have ever had. Huge fan of both items. Looking forward to my next visit back to Scranton and I will stop by here for sure again.

This food was great, and the service was also quick and friendly. I was with a group of 4 and they were able to accommodate us at a table immediately. I ordered the Yellow Curry with Chicken, rice, and a side of fried bread. Delicious! The others with me ordered the Red Curry with chicken, rice, and sides of bread and one ordered a veggie plate with fish that was heaping with fresh looking veggies and avocado. No one had much left on their plates. I will definitely be eating here again, and I'm very excited to try some of the Pad Thai.
(5)Brenda W.
The setting is nice enough, service was friendly and efficient, and the menu selection was extensive. I ordered a chicken and vegetable dish in garlic sauce and my husband ordered a duck dish. His was very flavorful while mine was sorely lacking. The presentation was colorful and the veggies were fresh. However, it was clear that the vegetables and chicken were cooked separately from the sauce causing a total blandness.

I never really gave Thai food much thought until I tried Thai Rak Thai. Now it's a favorite. If eating there, It's BYOB which is always a good thing. The entrées are reasonably priced. My favorite, Drunken Noodles (Pad See Ew), goes for $10.95 with other dinners similarly priced. The Gang Jued Woon Sen soup is a pork / mushroom soup and pretty outstanding. Some dishes are spicy so be forewarned, but you can scale it from 1-5. My dishes were 4's and they were real spicy. No way with a 5. Good thing the server is real quick with drink and water refills. Thai Rak Thai is a staple now, my wife and I will choose it over Chinese take out since they both turn out to be similarly priced in the end. Difference is this food is much better than take out Chinese. Whether you eat at the restaurant or get take out. Thai Rak Thai is good stuff.

Amazing! The service was super friendly & timely. The food was delicious. My boys loved the chicken sate and my drunken noodles. My hubby got the yellow curry which was great. The frozen mango bubble tea was super yummy. My one son couldn't have it since he can't have dairy so they brought him mango juice. He was super happy! We all can't wait to go back there on our next road trip!
(5)M S.
This place deserves all the high praises by the many who's reviewed this place. The staff are very nice and accomodating. The food is very good and satisfying. And the prices are just right. No complaints here. I would definitely be back again!
(5)Renee H.
Great Thai food. I had the Pad Thai with chicken. It was delicious. My only complaint is that it was slightly dry. Other than that. The flavors were great and I highly recommend the Thai Bubble Tea.
(4)Jarett S.
Love this Thai place! My fav in the Scranton area. Eveything I've had on the menu is awesome. Staff is really friendly. The TomYum soup and the duck salad are amazing. All the regular stuff is good too like pad thai, pad see ew, drunken and the fried rice of course...
(5)Rob H.
I have eaten here many times, the red curry is excellent. The atmosphere is festive and comfortable. This is a BYOB establishment. The staff works to keep you happy , even during the hectic busy times. I've never been disappointed.
(5)Marge E.
We had such great service and three amazing entrees, panang curry, pad pak,and pad Thai, that we all shared! We also loved the mango juice and coconut juice! Everything was presented beautifully, even the straw flower in our drinks! We will definitely come back when we are in town!
(5)Kayla B.
Ordered take out from this place while in town on business. Good curry and papaya salad. Great Thai coffee. Fast and cheap! What more could you ask for? Only 4 stars because though good, I have had better. But I will be ordering again before I head out of town.
(4)The T.
This place is good but I have stopped going because of one silly rule. They no longer except Credit / Debit payment for anything under $10? Every Item on the lunch menu is under $10! I don't usually have cash so I cant get lunch here.
(4)Abbey H.
Great Pad Thai, Hawaiian rice and Drunken Noodles. They are a BYOB so don't forget your booze! The only annoying thing is the dumb phone. It rings so loud (and plays a song for a ringtone) that it scares me every time. It's obnoxious but laughable.
(5)Sandy B.
The staff is so sweet! Even though they forgot my boyfriend's brown rice (extra cost), we couldn't stay mad at them. They also gave us free ice cream to make up for it. The food was pretty good too.
(4)Yatta K.
We were in downtown Scranton for a few hours and decided to check out this restaurant. We ordered two appetizers to go, one of them was the chicken satay served with a cucumber sauce and a peanut sauce and the other spicy Thai chicken wings. The satay chicken was really good and I found the accompanying sauces to go nicely as well. On the other hand the wings were very sweet and just not what I was expecting. When I went in to pick up my food the man at the counter seemed very nice and it was before 6pm on a weekday and the place seemed pretty full. I'd try it again
(3)David S.
Thai Rak Thai is one of my favorite places to eat in downtown Scranton. The staff is tremendously kind and customer oriented. I consider this place a diamond in the rough. The inside is very clean and beautiful while the outside could fool you. Food is delicious and authentic. The atmosphere is great! Highly recommended!
(5)Ralph L.
Wow if this is the best Thai food has to offer in Scranton, I'm done with Thai food. The service was definitely lacking except to constantly fill our water glasses without asking. The food was overpriced and came out at lukewarm. Remember never send your food back. I was still hungry after an appetizer and an entree. For the money I spent, I could've eaten Chinese for a couple days and been far more satisfied. Finally the worst of all, the constant turning off the lights, turning on a strobe light and singing Happy Birthday.
(1)Lauren S.
Pros: -delicious Thai food for a great price (we got 3 lunches for $22!) -perfect portion sizes (filling and satisfying, but not overwhelming) - Bravo! -great service (friendly and hospitable!) -tempting dessert options (didn't try any, though) -nice location Cons: -a $15 minimum for cards :(
(4)Tim O.
The first Thai restaurant in Scranton, boasting a ridiculously large menu, is still on top (or close enough to it). I've never had bad service at a Thai restaurant and this place is no exception.
(4)Mark D.
Excellent place for authentic Thai cuisine. The pad thai and the drunken noodles are the 2 go to entrees if your undecided. The curries are excellent too. Probably one of the best thai restaurants in the United States.
(5)Eugenia L.
I'll be kind and give it 3 stars considering it's in Scranton. It'd be unfair otherwise. The good news first: Staff was friendly and very patient with my large group (10+). If you're in the area and want to celebrate a birthday or any occasion. The festive music and dim mood lighting will make the meal memorable. It gave my friends a good laugh. Overall the food is decent but mediocre. Since the usual bold Thai flavors and heat were toned way down. The drunken noodles were too sweet and desperately needed several spoonfuls of chili sauce to balance it out. Tom Yum soup was more balanced in flavor, but came in a ridiculously awkward heated serving bowl.
(3)Kait H.
Great service. Food was accurately spiced to level requested (I got 5 out of 5 and my coworker got 4/5) and very flavorful. Came out promptly and hot. I will be back.
(5)Craving Cholent X.
4 stars for the food. We had drunken noodles and the duck special. All was tasty and nicely presented. 1 extra star for the staff. Overall, we were seated/served by 4 very friendly people...each one nicer than the last. They seemed genuinely happy to provide a pleasant dining experience for everyone in the restaurant. BYOB is an added bonus.
(5)Kate P.
Friendly staff; cute dining area. The food is always very good. Their tea is a unique home blend, which I recommend trying. I prefer the dishes at Thai Thai around the block, but my friend prefers it here. I would recommend trying both restaurants to find which one better suits your taste palate.
(4)Colleen H.
Went here for a work dinner- great for big groups! Also BYOB so you don't spend a ton on drinks. Will definitely be back soon.
(5)Jonathan L.
BYOB, entertaining staff. Thai Rak Thai is a solid lunch/dinner option in Scranton.
(4)Shan K.
The restaurant is good. The food is 3.5 stars. The service is 4.5 stars. We ordered satay and fried fish balls for appetizers. For entrée we had drunken noodles with chicken and spicy basil fried rice with jumbo shrimp. The chicken satay was dry. The meat needed to marinated longer and need to have more spices. It seems the satay has been americanised. The fried fish ball was chewy and tasty. The drunken noodles was good. I have had better however. The spicy basil fried rice was flavorful but rice was too undercooked. I do agreed that the rice must have that chewy texture which means it has to be slightly undercooked. But it seemed their fried rice should have stayed in the pot for a few mins more. On the whole a good experience.
(3)T W.
Loved the "little mermaid" appetizer (aka deep fried shrimp in egg roll skins). Will definitely order again!
(4)John V.
Scranton visitor always happy to seek out Thai food. And I know good Thai food! This was among the best. Our party of five sampled the length and breadth of the menu and we all enjoyed the results. Best part was the fun and friendly staff. If you like good Thai, you will enjoy this place.
(5)Jennifer E.
We love this place! The first time I ever went, I asked the waitress what I should order, and she recommended their drunken noodles-SO GOOD! If you don't love "heat," you can get a mild version-but I suggest you try them! The owners are incredibly sweet, the staff is always cleaning and smiling, it's our go to place for Thai food. We are Scrantonians, and it's a place we visit at least twice a month. I'm surprised by some of the reviews that call this place expensive or overpriced...we bring a bottle of wine, and our bill is never over $30.00 for two of us.
(5)Loren K.
This is the best Thai food I have had to date. I am looking forward to traveling to back to.Scranton, and this is reason number one! Delicious lemongrass soup and awesome ginger peanut sauce! I LOVE THAI RAK THAI!
(5)Su I.
I have had dinner here 5 times in two months while on business. I will not spend my money here again. They will charge you $2 more if you ask for extra basil on your drunken noodle dish. My coworker was charged $2 extra because she only wants carrots and onions on her chicken curry dish. I think that's insane.
(1)Elisabeth R.
Best food and great staff!! They make birthdays fun :)
(5)Kristen M.
Thai Rak Thai is a truly phenomenal Thai restaurant and dining establishment in general. From the moment you walk in the amazing colors and decor transports you. They also play a Thai cover album of Beatles songs and other easy listening music, which is a really beautiful soundtrack for the restaurant. The staff is impeccable. They make you feel right at home and are super attentive, friendly and knowledgeable about their menu. I order calamari everywhere I go and this is one of my favorites. Some of my other favorite items to order are the spring rolls, buffalo wings, Pad See Aew with beef, Kao Pad with chicken, Pineapple Fried Rice and the Honey Duck. I literally can't get enough of their food. I crave it like I crave sleep! They also do a great birthday celebration so I never hesitate to take friends for that special day. If they were ever located closer to my home with a private parking lot I would legitimately be there every other day. Dine here and you will be one happy customer!
(5)Miranda V.
AMAZING!!!!! I'm picky when it comes to my Thai food, and have only settled for the best. This is just as good as upscale NYC Thai food. The only downside is they don't have a bar, but it's byob. The pad Thai is mouth watering, as is the pad see ew! Love this place :)
(5)Charlie P.
Definitely my favorite restaurant in Scranton. I am vegetarian, my wife is not. We both have so much to choose from on their menu. Service is super friendly and nicely paced. I love the coconut soup, spring rolls, the noodle dishes, mee krob, and Thai iced tea. Portion sizes are not huge, so we can usually finish what we order without feeling stuffed. Spice level is mild unless you ask for heat. They also have a nice tray with an assortment of spicy condiments that they bring to the table on request.
(5)Kevin B.
What an amazing place! My fiancée and I are huge fans of Thai food and we missed out on dining here when we were at the University of Scranton so we figured we'd try Thai Rak Thai when we came back to the area to visit. We were not disappointed by any means. The food here is amazing and so incredibly flavorful. We dined with another couple and all tried each other dishes and we loved all of them. We did the same with dessert and we loved them all as well (definitely go for the coconut ice cream!). The service here is really great too; our waitress was very fun and joked around a lot, which we love. Overall, Thai Rak Thai is a great place to dine with great food and great service. If you're in Scranton, I would highly suggest stopping by!
(5)Dawance C.
Overpriced Americanized Thai food. When I ordered the small portioned spicy papaya salad for $7.95, I was thoroughly disappointed. The salad was not spicy at all. It's unfortunate they advertise themselves as authentic when the food is obviously catered to the Scranton population-- white. When I ordered a small lemongrass-based soup for $5.95, I had to order rice on the side for an extra $2. Thai people don't have soup without rice, this is ridiculous. As for dessert, the mango with sticky rice is not worth the hefty $5.95 price tag. For that price I expected the mango to be ripe and sweet-- it was not. In addition the sticky rice seems like it was refrigerated then microwaved-- I could feel hot and cold spots. I was looking to be a regular at an authentic, fairly priced Asian restaurant. This will NOT be my spot.
(2)John A.
One of Scranton's gems. You have to go here for your birthday to get the disco treatment. Great food, great staff. Spice level can be a little inconsistent but that's what the spice tray is for. BYOB.
(5)Carlos O.
Thai Rak Thai is definitely a gem in the Scranton area. The food seems very authentic as far as i know and super tasty. I've ordered the Pad thai every time i've been there and i absolutely loved it. Full of well cooked noodles, chicken and shrimp, vegetables, and a sweet nutty sauce packed with flavor. The vegetarian pad thai is just as great and includes tofu. A side of coconut rice is also very delicious and only $2.50 For dessert i tried the green tea ice cream. It has a different texture than normal ice cream but the flavor is all there. I thought it was a very refreshing way to end the meal and would recommend at least trying it once. I went with my girlfriend and the waiter gave us an extra scoop of ice cream so we could share it. The staff is super friendly and humble. They seem to really care about the customer and their restaurant.
(5)Faith A.
Being the Thai food lover that I am, when I was in Scranton, my husband and I had to try to find a place for lunch that we were both going to be happy with and this seemed to fit the bill. It was nearby, the reviews were good, and it looked like a nice place (when compared to a lot of other places we had driven past). Having a great number of yummy Thai restaurants near us in Pittsburgh is what made our experience here less than fabulous. My husbands Drunken Noodle was good according to him, however, my Pad Thai... I barely was able to eat it. Chicken was barely cooked, noodles were hard, and it just did not have the normal flavors that I was used to. Service was fast, it was a cute little place, prices were uber cheap (less than $15 for 2 lunches that were nice portions if my dish would have been edible).
(2)Jill K.
I'm not sure why it took us 6 years to return to this place, but I'm glad we went back. As before, we got a six pack of mixed beer from the bar next door and our server quickly brought us an ice bucket to keep them chilled. The place was very busy, but we didn't have to wait for a table. We started with the spring rolls. They were the size of egg rolls and very good with a thin crispy wrapper and a nice dipping sauce. I had the drunken noodles with shrimp and it was yummy. I wish I had asked for more heat as I love spicy food and there was really no extra heat in this dish, but it was very delicious as it was. Mr. Wonderful had the Panang Curry with beef and I couldn't resist dipping my spoon into that wonderful orange/red sauce several times. I even poured some over my drunken noodles and it was great. They appear to have a very large take out business by the number of people popping in to pick up food, so that's an option too. I'm sure it won't be six years before we visit again.
(4)Karen V.
This is only my third Thai restaurant, but I'm in love. It came highly recommended gy a friend, so I decided to stop tonight. I got the beef satay and Goong Sam Rod. I thought it was supposed to be spicy, but apparently not. Next time I will ask them to spice it up for me. Food was delicious, prices reasonable and service fantastic. I thought it was very slow for a Saturday night, but considering that both the President and Vice President were in town and half the streets were shut down, I understand. After reading the reviews, I will have to try the drunken noodles. Much better than Thai Thai in Wilkes Barre.
(5)Samantha R.
On my way home from a weekend in Philadelphia I stopped here to have a quick bite. I'm glad I picked this place! The food was GREAT. I only had soup and "golden rings" (calamari) but from the looks of all the empty plates on other tables I get the hint it's all good. The calamari was perfect; the rings were not too thick (sometimes they can be gross) and there was just the right amount of panko. We don't have Thai around my house so I got a big soup to go, can't wait to enjoy it sometime this week! *also the staff is great, super friendly people*
(4)Darius D.
Great place! If you want hot, ask them to make it "Thai hot and not American hot". Drunken noodles with chicken was very flavorful. Be sure to order Mango juice if you order it "Thai hot" to calm the flesh wounds from the heat. Good stuff! Waiter is funny too!
(4)Sara M.
Thai Rak Thai is one of my favorite restaurants in the are. It has a great location down town. I've had nearly the whole entire vegetarian menu, and everything is always delicious. If you're a strict vegetarian/vegan.. Make sure to let your server know fish sauce and eggs are not okay. Dinner is a little pricey, but you can't beat the lunch special, which is lower in cost & comes with a free side salad with a delicious peanut dressing. If you're ever in Scranton this is a great place for some delicious foreign cuisine. It's also BYOB, so don't forget to bring a nice Riesling or Pinot Blanc to pair with your spicy thai food!
(4)Aimee M.
Although the restaurant decor is tacky, they do serve great Thai food. Its probably the best food you could get around Scranton!! Drunk noodles, Pad Thai, Thai iced tea are my go-tos.
(5)Coco W.
Yassss!!! Yassss!! Dahling!! Wonderful food, absolutely wonderful Thai food. I told my husband that I'm already addicted to their food. It was certainly THE BEST Thai food I have ever had. And who knew I would find it in Scranton. Oh well, don't tell too many people, cause I'll be pissed if I can't get a reservation when I want one. LOL. It is a must eat! Enjoy!
(5)Darren R.
The food itself is 4 stars. The waitress however seems rushed and robotized. But what disappointed us the most was 2 things 1) we ordered a drunken noodle and asked for extra veggies in it. They said $3 charge. Whatever. Food came out, about 3 pieces broccoli 2 carrots and that was with the EXTRA veggies. So I couldn't imagine what the meal looked like without extra veggies definitely wouldn't have been hardy and probably just noodles! 2) I like to eat healthy, I like browns rice. So for 4 orders brown rice to be on the healthier side.... They bring out the jasmine rice that comes with meal and add the brown rices as $2.50 side. What a price to pay to be healthier. So now I have a dish included with the meal of white rice that I simply DO NOT EAT and will be wasted food (shame) as I pay another $10 (coulda got entire bag of rice with that) just so we could enjoy some simple undercooked brown rice in replace of the white rice. $10 is petty but what an annoyance of how they just ripped us. Healthier people have to sacrifice here
(3)Elena W.
service was decent. food was amazing. I got drunken noodles with chicken. spicy and delicious. would recommend and go back.
(3)Dan W.
We finally stopped in here for the first time over the weekend, after hearing good things via word of mouth and on Yelp. We were greeted by a very friendly server, who was genuinely happy to be serving us and did an excellent job from start to finish. I had to try the drunken noodles (added shrimp on mine) since I'd heard so many good things. I ordered them "medium spicy" and they were different from anything I'd had before and I'd get them again in a second. Maybe with full heat next time. We also tried the spring roll app and duck salad, and my wife also had a dish with noodles that was somewhat similar to the drunken noodles. The name of that dish I can't recall, but it was excellent, too. The spring rolls reminded me of an egg roll that you'd get in a Chinese restaurant, and came with a dipping sauce that was somewhat sweet. They are good, but not as unique as many of the other menu items. The duck salad comes with ginger, apples, pineapple, cashews, etc. The salad is really good, with a bunch of different flavors going on. The blue paint inside is kind of funky, but in a good way. The dining room is clean and intimate and, as I said before, the staff is very welcoming. I saw a lot on the menu that I'd like to try. We'll be back sometime soon.
(4)Brad P.
Drunken Noodles with Shrimp. Spicy! That is all. Not a huge fan of the decor in here, but its downtown Scranton. Also, the Lemon Grass soup was bery good. Definately one of the better Thai places in Scranton area. Im from CA, and am always sure to stop for a bite here whilst in town.
(3)Conor O.
I cannot begin to count the incredible experiences I have had here! The food is delicious (my personal favorite is the Veggie Fried Rice), reasonably priced and the service is usually outstanding! The atmosphere is comfortable yet not overly casual. Perfect for almost any occasion - lunch with friends, family dinner, night out of with friends/significant other. All fantastic!!
(5)John M.
Really good Thai in Scranton. Comparable to Thai Thai in Wilkes barre
(5)Tony F.
I haven't been here in such a long time, but I still remember my experience very well. I wanted to try roasted duck because there were Geico caveman commercials with roasted duck in them (I'm completely serious, this was the only reason I wanted or even thought about trying duck). So, I went with the honey roasted option and it was amazing. However, as is apparently the case with duck, it was very greasy. I thought I was dying or had food poisoning, but I soon found out I had some stomach problems and lots of grease was going to continue to make me feel this way. So, duck, to me, is like ice cream to someone who is lactose intolerant. The end. PS: I still think I'm ready to come back and try it again then worry about the repercussions later.
(4)Pri P.
Mango Juice w/ rose. So cute W/ the straw folded as a rose :) and delicious. I had the Drunken Noodles w/ chicken and tried a friends Pad Thai. Both were to die for. If I weren't here in Scranton for business I'd frequent this place.
(4)Jane K.
Passing through Scanton to get back to NYC stopped here via Yelp. Wow this place beats 90% of Thai places in NYC. My drunken noodles were perfect. I asked for super spicy and the waitress asked if I was sure. I usually douse any Thai meal with Siricha. I did not need a touch of hot sauce as my dish was perfectly spicy (made me sweat and at times want to cry). My dining companions were also all happy with their- Pad Thai, Green and Yellow Curries.
(5)Jon S.
Nice service, food was good, not real Thai. If we return to Scranton, we would visit again.
(3)Ash K.
Mediocre food, and the service was just ok. Also took a long time for lunch with coworkers. We went once and haven't been back.
(2)Helen D.
What an awesome find in an unexpected place. THAI FOOD in SCRANTON?? and it's never even been mentioned on the OFFICE? Maybe that is to keep the crowds away? Diverse menu - you can pretty much find anything you want. If you order by the number the server tells you what your ordered by name. Order by Name & she gives you the number! The WINGS were good but not quite a "buffalo wing". LOVED the Drunken Noodles - you pretty much HAVE to get these when you dine here. And even if it is not someone in your groups Birthday - tell your server it is because it is quite a production you DO NOT want to miss. The food is SPICY & you will drink LOTS of water. Beer would be a good beverage too - it is BYOB. yay!
(4)Matt N.
Let me preface this by admitting that I've been to three Thai restaurants in my life, Thai Rak Thai being one of them. I don't exactly hold myself up as an authority on the cuisine. That being said; I freaking LOVE Thai Rak Thai. The basics: service has always been super friendly, fast and quite accommodating. (Always warning people about spice levels of the food, for one thing) It's a clean, intimate little dining area. (Maybe a smidgen closed in, but that's what makes it intimate.) I love their food. Love it. I'm always trying new and awesome stuff here. The red curry. Great. Loooove the drunken noodles. Pad Thai, Panang curry, their house made spring rolls...I could go on and on. A little pricier than some other joints you could eat at, but worth every penny. One of the places that makes living in the Electric City worthwhile.
(5)Lois A.
I usually avoid ethnic restaurants in small towns, but a friend wanted to meet us there and we went. The food is excellent and the staff is always ready to serve and watching for your needs. I love the chicken in peanut sauce and order it every time I go. We eat here every time we visit the area. Highly recommended.
(5)Manzana Z.
Their entree is yummy. Service is good. If someone is birthday, their employee will celebrate to you, they turn off the light and sing a birthday song and give you a cake. Intimate service their.

My mom and I were driving from New York City to Rochester when we came across this total gem. The food was delicious and, being from California, I have tasted great Thai food! I couldn't believe this place was in Scranton - we will definitely stop anytime we are driving through town! The drunken noodles are a must have along with their Thai red curry. The service was amazing and they brought us a complimentary appetizer and dessert just because! The prices can't be beat, the food is fresh and delicious, and the service is second to none. Do not miss this place!!!
(5)Jason C.
Good Thai food is hard to find. Found this place on yelp during my travels. I could smell the spices and flavors as I walked up to the restaurant. Very good selection of thai dishes. No Singha beer, but byob. They had thai duck specials today, but I passed for some fiery green curry. I did ask for my dish 'thai' spicy - and they balked - but the server was very helpful, bringing over a tray of various hot peppers so I could spice it up. A few moments later I was sweating, sniffling and tears welling up in my eyes from the fire. One bonus about this restaurant is that they offer brown rice instead of white rice, albeit at a $2.50 charge. I finished up w/ the mango and sticky rice. The mango was decent and the coconut sticky rice was a good finish for the burning madness prior. I did notice a couple of other tables going heavy on the vegetarian fare as well. A definite stop over if I'm back in the Scranton area.
(4)Shannon M.
I loved the yellow curry because it was made just the way I like it...with no pineapple!
(4)Cheyne W.
Love their drunken noodles and Thai iced tea!
(5)Sherry T.
Drunken noddles are the best I ever had.
(5)Christopher T.
My parents' suggestion, and I'm thinking with my elitist DC attitude, Thai in Scranton? We were pleasantly surprised. The place was packed on a Sunday night. The finacee said that this Thai was better than most of what we get in DC. While I wouldn't go quite that far I will say that I was very impressed. The Drunken Noodles and Kra Pow were my two personal favorites. The dumplings as appetizers were nothing spectacular but once we got into the entrees things really improved. It's BYOB which I actually kind of liked. It looked as if every table had their own ideas on this, some bringing 6 packs of beer and other bringing wine. We brought a bottle of white and immediately they put it on ice for us, a nice touch for a BYOB place. The decor is nothing much to look at, simple adornments, but the food is why we came and we were more than impressed. I'd come back again next time I'm up in the Electric City!

Having been on both sides of the coin, I understand that restaurants sometimes become busy, and that overwhelmed servers need to take a break every so often. However, I have to say that I was disappointed with my most recent experience here. The food was excellent as usual, but we sat for 45 minutes after finishing our meal and eventually had to flag a server down to get our check. Were we in a rush? No. Did we mind hanging out? No. But 45 minutes without even a brief checkup is not acceptable. We weren't asked if we wanted dessert. Also, although we exceeded it, we were told that there was a $15 minimum to use plastic (this practice is not allowed by Visa). This is not a very large restaurant. Having two parties of 10+ is not an excuse. What happened to all of the servers?

Had the drunken noodles and they were crazy good!! Highly recommended..Perfect balance of sweet and hot. Great service as well. Good place for a cheap lunch. I give them the edge over Thai thai. Will be back next time I'm in Scranton!

I have been an avid Thai Rak Thai diner since their commencement a few years ago and I have returned to order the same damn dish on almost every occasion!!! You may ask yourself, "What could possibly be that good and why not move on and try something different? Answer: two words- "DRUNKEN NOODLES" ( w/ chicken & medium spice)...Partly because I enjoy it so much, but mainly because most of the items on the menu are similar concoctions of this dish. This uniquely flavored meal is traditionally prepared with long flat rice noodles, cooked el diente, and stir fried with a delicious medley of red & green peppers, caramelized onions, fresh basil, chili oil, tomatoes, and seasoned to perfection with hints of garlic & ginger. The only downfall with Thai Rak Thai is BYOB. They've yet to obtain a liquor license, which may or may not be of your concern depending on how you get down ;-) ...The bonus is you can bring your favorite wine or drink to compliment these tasty dinners. My suggestion would be a light/crisp white wine such as Sauvignon Blanc or a Chardonnay.

Great place to stop in for lunch. It's delicious food at a great price. The waitstaff was extremely friendly also. I wasn't a fan of the crab roll appetizer but loved the banana dessert. The pad thai was tasty but average

Chicken Panang curry was $13 for the dinner portion. It was enough food for 2 meals. The Panang sauce was delicious! The medium heat was the perfect amount of spice with the sweetness of the peanut curry sauce. The hot tea was great. I feel that Thai iced tea is too sweet for me, so just having the hot tea was perfect.

Some of the best Thai food I've ever had. I had the drunken noodles my gf had the pad Thai. Both were delicious. Extremely cheap and fantastic lunch. Can't wait to try dinner!

Ouch. I have never given a 1 star before. Let me start by saying this was a 5 star in my book when I first moved here. The last 2 times my wife and I went we could taste something weird in the food. I mean it tasted like some sort of fuel... I am not kidding and I know that sounds weird. It is sad for us as I absolutely love good Thai food. My wife has even been to Thailand and when we first went here she was like, Yeah! That place is authentic! No more..

Definitely good find! Drunken noodles was awesome

I love their food it's always great and amazing. Their bubble tea isn't always on the mark though :-(
(4)Rachel E.
Staff is very gracious and sensitive to the customers needs. So much that they go a bit crazy filling your water every time you take a sip but its funny. Service is at an appropriate time, not suspiciously fast so that you wonder where it came from and not slow either. Prices are very reasonable, I think most of their entrees are about 12.00. The food is amazing everything always tastes fresh and healthy! Now they have bubble tea!

Been here several times. Food seems to be authentic. A tad pricey for what it is. I mean, how much does noodles and rice cost, especially when you purchase it in 10000 lb bags. Nonetheless, I've been here several times. My latest meal was with a group. We were celebrating the announcement of a new baby, so we asked the staff to do their traditional "happy birthday" song to the new mom to be. It was great fun. They are BYOB, so that is a plus and allowed us to bring champagne to toast the announcement. Everyone was pleased with their meals, except me. I ordered the seared tuna. I am a huge fan of seared tuna, but theirs was a bit "fishy" smelling and tasting. Not a good sign. I suspect they just don' t have a big calling for that dish. I wasn't too upset as they were very accommodating when I brought it to their attention and did remove it from the bill. I'll return here for sure. Hmmnn, maybe today!!!

Not bad, but could be better.

Delicious food, good service, nice decor. Was worried that Thai food in Scranton wouldn't be good but this was as good as any Thai rest I've been to in California. We ordered a variety of vegetarian plates: veggie spring rolls, green coconut curry with vegetables and tofu, pad thai with veggies, pad pak with veggies, pad see ew with broccoli, carrot. Every dish was executed properly. Lunch specials are super cheap, good portions. Came for dinner once as well, and prices were a bit higher than expected. I'd think for Scranton, the prices for all the entrees would be 2 to 3 dollars cheaper. But was happy with the food, decor and service so the price does not bother me. If I was from the area, this would be a place I'd come around once a week.

Wow! Who would've thought that I'd find an authentic Thai restaurant here in the city of Scranton!? Fantastic specials, authentic flavors, diverse menu. We followed our friends on Yelp to this Thai gem, that actually has Thai staff! We will return whenever we are back in the area!
(4)Rob O.
I love this place! The pad Thai is always great. For an added treat, tell them it's your birthday.
(5)Janis C.
Wonderful, wonderful service. I would actually rate this place at about 3.5 stars, but decided to round up simply because I haven't tried enough of their (sizable) menu to make an accurate judgement. Downsides are that the dishes are on the pricy side for moderately small portions, and the food seems to be a bit hit and miss -- the seafood wasn't great (wasn't terrible either, though), but their Pad Prik King was fabulous! Their Pad Prik King was different from Pad Prik King dishes I've had at other Thai restaurants, and different in a good way -- spicy and savory with the familiar undercurrent of coconut. I would definitely come here again for a go at another of their dishes.

This place is awesome. I've visited there many times with friends and professors. It IS BYOB, although I've never brought my own wine so I'm not sure if there's a corking fee (I dont think there is). I've been a constant fan of their spring rolls and plum sauce as well as their pad thai. However, depending on the day the spiciness level definitely varies. I've ordered a 2 star that has tasted like a 3 star and a 3 star that tasted like a 2 star, though most of the time is was pretty consistent. The staff is SUPER friendly and always happy to see you whether it's your first time there or if you've been there 100 times. I was a frequent visitor for take-out and they always welcomed me warmly and offered me water and a seat. The food comes out fast and hot and they also have an awesome way to celebrate birthdays. They turn on a color disco ball and sing. All around it's a great experience and excellent food.

Let me start with the food. It was hands down amazing. Our small party ordered everything different from one another and shared items. Everything was spectacular. The duck, the drunken noodles, the giam soup, everything. Fantastic. The place as spotless and very nice atmosphere. The problem came with the service. The service was slow. We weren't picky or giving them super specific orders or anything like that. Just ordered the menu items. Then at the end we waited about 30 minutes for the check, then it turned into such an ordeal to split it. This is 2013, most people carry a debit/credit card and not cash, so it turned into another 20 minute project to split the check, which we ended up not being able to do anyway. Get it together with this and progress into modern times. We still left a decent tip because everything else was great. I don't know if I'll return though with the service we had, but the food and restaurant itself was great.

Great authentic Thai restaurant in downtown Scranton. The rather dilapidated exterior adds to its hole-in-the-wall credibility, and the portion sizes are very generous. Only detraction I've experienced is the street parking in downtown Scranton, which is a mess.
(4)Supriya S.
I absolutely like this place, the food is so tasty that when I had to leave this city I was distressed that I would not find such great thai and I have tried since then so many thai restaurants and have always been disappointed because none of the places compare to this restaurant, just last week on the way to NYC we stopped in Scranton so obviously went to Thai Rak Thai and it was simply great. The only problem I have with this place is the service provided like i asked for mango juice but the server insisted to try the coconut juice and guess what she turned up with coconut juice and on asking her to bring the mango one she gave me such a look for troubling her but still I go there for taste and not services and that's the only reason I didn't rate it with 5 stars

Once again I was pleasantly surprised by Scranton's offerings. Nice atmosphere (tablecloths, cloth napkins, and a flower vase on every table, albeit with artificial flowers, but still...) and quite the place to be on Thursday night. Fortunately we didn't have to wait, but almost all of the tables were filled. The spring rolls were tasty, not too heavy, and vegetarian. Cute presentation, too: 6 skinny rolls cut in half diagonally, arranged in a row and accompanied by sliced carrots and cabbage, with a light sauce. The Drunken Noodles dish with chicken was delicious: flat noodles, broccoli, peppers, onions, and white meat chicken in a really flavorful sauce. This dish had the "spicy" designation and I was told that medium is hot, whereas hot is "hot-hot." The medium didn't quite taste hot to me but I still really enjoyed it, both at the restaurant and as a midnight snack later on. My dining companion didn't want anything spicy whatsoever and can't eat nuts or corn. The waitress was very helpful about recommending something within these restrictions. The resulting dish consisted of chicken and veggies in a light ginger sauce that didn't look too exciting but was pretty flavorful nonetheless. The desserts looked good, but I was too full to partake.

I've been here multiple times. Very good food, professional service, and laid-back vibe. -OK for dates for families or groups of friends. -Very clean restrooms -Try the papaya salad... spicy and good!

For Thai, it's the best I had while working in Scranton. Very good food. The only thing that was a negative was that they didn't have an alcohol license, so you'll have to bring your own drinks. Also, the food was a little bland and not spicy at all, even if you asked for it to be spicy. Overall though, it was a positive experience and a restaurant I would recommend.
(3)Dana D.
Massaman Curry was excellent! Pad Thai was excellent too! No alcohol served, you have to go to the store down the street and bring it in, or bring it from home. Very attentive service and very clean!
(4)Scott I.
Greeted at door. Very nice server. Spring rolls were good. We also had pad Thai and green curry. Both were good. Not the best Thai food I have had. Though I'd return. It was good food. Also. Clean restaurant. And good bubble tea. BYOB.

I was in Scranton for business 1 night and was fortunate to find this gem via Yelp! My wife is Thai, so I'm very familiar with Thai food. This place was excellent! I ordered the Basil Chicken and had them customize it for me the way I like it, which they were more than happy to do. I got "American Spicy" (3 on a 1-5 scale) and it was just right. Somebody was having a birthday party there and they sang a Thai version of Happy Birthday. It was very entertaining. The staff were fantastic all around! I highly recommend this place!!
(5)Brian P.
The calamari was very good, and I got drunken noodles (which are rated as spicey) but asked for level 1 intensity. It was tough to eat it cos it was still pretty spicey. They also don't serve milk, so it was tough to find out what I could eat to cancel out the spice. I ended up getting some steamed rice and mixed it in with the noodles which made it a lot more tolerable. Overall a good meal and not expensive.
(4)Shuang C.
Authentic Thai food my @ss. The food was god-awful compared to the thai restaurants in Boston. The pad thai was bad, the pad see aew was bad, the curry was decent, but the lunch portion was miserably small and over priced. Not coming back, thai rak thai.
(1)Patrice W.
One of the best places to grab a fast, cheap lunch, or have an intimate special occasion dinner. Lots of menu items and they are more than willing to cater dishes to your specifications. They have the best peanut sauce I've ever tried--I would drink it. Service is prompt and very attentive. BYOB, which is better I think. The best dessert I have tried was the honey banana with coconut ice cream. Birthday boys and girls are treated to a spectacle, so watch out. Definitely in my top 5 Scranton restaurants.
(5)Franco X.
Ya will go back again, good service, friendly server, refill water glasses with out being asked A+, most place's you have to ask for water. Quick service, except, will tell you to call for a reservation, you will wait less. It seems to be very popular. If no reservation plan to wait. I will have to go again to check again! Food was good. Very busy on a saturday night.
(4)Tiger J.
this place really does deserve 6 stars... someone had a birthday there when i was there eating my pad thai and the celebration is hilarious!!! it's not a birthday...it's a "birdday". sounds like my old uncle from vietnam lol
(5)Brian L.
Best Thai I've ever had. Super friendly service, quick, affordable, great portions! love it!
(5)Michel S.
i approve of this place. the food was excellent and the service was attentive, but not overbearing. i took Colin's advice and got the drunken noodles, and was impressed. also ordered it reasonably spicy (4 out of 5) and was pleasantly surprised that it was actually really spicy (some thai places assume that we caucasians can't handle heat.) also the tom kha gai soup was on point. overall, it was a great meal...so much that i'll likely be going back here before i leave next week.
(4)Melissa R.
love this place and come here often.... the green tea ice cream is amazing. service is always great!
(4)Tom D.
They do a nice job with their food! It is seasoned well and delicious. However, that is often over-powered by their desire to turn over tables quickly. I understand that this is how a restaurant makes its money, but they would benefit from slowing down a little. I actually like the food, but really don't go because I don't like swallowing my meal with anxiety from being rushed.

Thai Rak Thai has amazing food, as well as a visually pleasing atmosphere. I am glad a Thai restaurant is finally back in the downtown; we have not had one since Siam Restaurant caught on fire, and then went out of business. Dinner can be pricey so I recommend going for lunch. If you don't want to stick out like a sore thumb, dress Business Casual. During lunch many of the people who work in offices downtown dine here, so people in plain clothes look a bit out of place. When you first arrive they give you a tiny salad with a tasty peanut sauce on it. Servers are very attentive, constantly refilling your water. I recommend the Pad See Ew, I get this every time I go and I have never been disappointed. It is Flat noodles, Stir fried with Broccoli, egg, and a seasoned soy sauce...and I believe you get your choice of chicken, pork, or beef...I always go with the chicken. To drink, I recommend the Thai iced tea, it is tasty and pleasing to the eyes(you have to see it to understand what I mean), it is reminiscent of the boba milk tea I often get in NYC's Chinatown, minus the Boba(tapioca) of course. The Mango Juice is also pretty good. If you are in the mood for dessert, I recommend the fried ice cream, which comes out of the kitchen flaming. :-)

Love this place!! We have been here several times and each time the food has been great and the prices reasonable. In fact last night the 3 of us ate for less than $60 (including apps and dinners and a side). The curries are delicious- esp. the red- and nicely spicy. We also had the drunken noodles with pork which were also great. I highly recommend the Larb. It's a small plate that you can order as an appetizer that is cold, cooked ground chicken (or beef). The meat is lightly sweet and spicy. It's delicious. The only small knock is the service. It's so-so but only because there are too few people covering the restaurant. Love this place!

I feel sorry for those of you who dwelled only on the food here. You missed the boat. It's the experience and the energy the staff provides. I know it seems like they push the special. I had it last week when I visited. It's was the duck and it was amazing!!! Three different sauces on top of crispy and juicy meat cooked to perfection with red and green bell peppers broccoli carrots steam rice etc.. The hostess is genuinely concernd that u enjoy your selection. My girlfriend loved this place. The best however is the surprise you get if you tell them it's your birthday.

My experience with Thai Rak Thai took place during lunch. It wasn't terribly busy and we were quickly brought to a table by a waitress. The restaurant is team served so everything happens very quickly - no glass is without water for long. We were immediately served a small portion of salad with a peanut-based dressing - a nice surprise. It's nice to have little extras sometimes. The lunch menu was reasonably priced and I chose the Drunken Noodles (my default Thai plate). The lunch portion was about half the size of take out orders, but it was enough to fill me. Plate presentation was surprisingly creative and most of the orders I saw were thought-out. The dining area was very clean, and the decor was very Eastern (as one would assume) and comfortable. My experience was very pleasant. My only complaint was that my lunch felt very rushed. Everything moved very quickly and before I could think, it seemed, I was already walking out the door.
(3)Mike C.
Drunken noodles are great, so are the different currys. Great service. Best Thai in the area!
(5)Jenny N.
I live in Philly and my gf and I always come here when we visit my parents. The Thai is just as good as any place I have found in Philly. The staff is so warm and adorable. Every time I go I pray it's someone's birthday so I can yell, "Cha Cha Cha" with a mouth-full of Drunken Noodles.
(5)Jason S.
Fast, friendly service, large portions, and a disco ball to celebrate your birthday. What more can you ask for? A great downtown location makes this an easy recommendation for anyone who enjoys Asian food.

The coolest bar I've been to in over a decade...the juke box is simply amazing
(5)The Meepers G.
I have only had better Thai food two times. And one was made by my sister-in-laws mother, who is from Thailand. I love this place. great dinner spot for a date. My girlfriend and i frequent this place.
(5)JJ S.
It is always nice to be pleasantly surprised walking into a place you see almost everyday. The interior is simple, with cultural decorations scattered around the room. I went for lunch with a couple of guys so I only was able to try the meal in front of me i.e. sharing was out of the question. I had a dish that seemed to be on the sweeter side served with rice and the complimentary salad. The servers one goal looks to be to give you your food, let you eat, and then rip your plate from under your nose all while keeping your glass of water filled to the brim. Surprisingly i found it all kind of funny. The prices for lunch start off at 7.95 and go up from there. The portions for lunch are considerably smaller but that is only in comparison to dinner portions which are enormous. The food is excellent and if you need help deciding don't hesitate to ask your server. She will probably just say Drunken Noodles anyway.
(4)nunzio p.
i hate a place when you walk in and they just let you stand there at the door and wait for a table...no taking names ..no nothing..also its uncomfortable for me and the people whos table you standing next to while they eat
