In an early scene in the Farrelly brother's overlooked classic, "Kingpin", Roy Munson (played by Woody Harrelson) wakes up in a run down flophouse in Scranton, Pennsylvania. He is hungover, dirty, disheveled, and maimed; a past his prime former prodigy derailed by fate- in short, he is a human embodiment of Scranton- he is it's perfect hero, and Southside Bowl is it's perfect bowling joint. Like Scranton itself, the Southside Bowl is loved because of, not in spite of, it's flaws. It is the best place to bowl in Scranton, and not just because there are no other bowling lanes in Scranton. Southside Bowl is the only place in town that features "cosmic bowling" on the weekend: a frenzied, black light lit, saturnalian romp- when the lanes are alight with swirling psychedelic colors emanating from every object- when wild tribes of feral children run around screaming as Hanna Montana blares from the jukebox, while their parents get ossified on cheap beer from Poor Richard's pub (the Lane's in-house watering hole.) Cosmic Bowling night is a trip; it feels like the present time having a foursome with 1981, 1967 and Satan. Warning to epileptics: Cosmic Bowling night may trigger seizures. If that sounds like too much excitement, you'll find weekday nights much quieter, and the place is practically empty during the daytime. If you tire of bowling, you will find other activities to keep you occupied. Along with Poor Richard's pub, there is a pool room of about a dozen full size tables and a small arcade. The poorly maintained pool tables, have surfaces littered with cigarette ashes, chipped paint, and food particles, which add to the fun and challenge of the game. In between shots, you can take time to admire some of the most brilliantly horrible pool-themed paintings ever rendered on canvas. All in all, it is a very special, very ordinary place. If you ever find yourself stranded in Scranton, check it out and see for yourself.

It's a bowling alley. And the snack bar has the BEST hamburgers in Scranton (no kidding) oh yeah...I forgot to mention that they have 34 synthetic lanes, pool tables, an arcade, and a snack bar. I think there's a bar on the premises too.

34 lanes of quality lanes and friendly staff. I bowl here once a year for their No-Tap Tournament. Their snack bar has good food - try a burger.

I couldn't believe how decent the prices were. It was completely dead, and we were basically the only group there. Go if you have a good sized group, otherwise you'll be bored out of your mind. The facility itself is big, and this is the only 24/7 spot around. They have food, too.
