Whenever we visit my dear friend in Scranton, we always make time for the K.K. !!! Krispy Kreme is so naughty for you, but since we have it once in a while, it's our guilty treat. We always go for the classic glazed and chocolate icing doughnuts. In the fall they had a Red Velvet Doughnut, perfect for dessert. I love the 50's, vintage vibe of K.K. The people who work here are super nice. It's my favorite doughnut chain.

Can any sugar coated, fried flour product even approach a Krispy Kreme? I think not. Make sure you go when they're cooking and the HOT light is on and ask for fresh ones. You can watch the staff pick them up immediately after they emerge from the gorgeous sugar waterfall and drop them in the box for you. They'll be too hot to eat if you immediately open the box (do it!) but if you wait 30-60 seconds, you'll be psychologically prepared and can tuck into them. Ahhhhhhh... The store is very small so if you're bringing rambunctious kids or want to eat in peace, my recommendation is that you grab and go. Boy are they worth it, though!

Krispy Kreme doughnuts are by far the best doughnuts made by any national doughnut chain including Dunkin Donuts (ho-hum...). Whenever I'm passing through the Scranton area, I take a short detour off I-81 onto the Scranton Expressway to Krispy Kreme goodness. This Krispy Kreme store has been around for a long time and longer than the newer short lived stores which opened and closed quickly in New York and Massachusetts (mid 2000s). People there liked the Krispy Kreme doughnuts, but the coffee was not very good and they stuck with their Dunkins for coffee and average donuts. The closest Krispy Kreme to me is located inside Mohegan Sun in CT. When the light is on outside, they are making fresh doughnuts. The original glazed doughnut is my favorite, which are very soft and light doughy inside and covered with a good layer of frosted sugar glaze. I also enjoy the glazed fruit filled varieties, chocolate frosted, glazed chocolate cake, and chocolate iced custard filled doughnuts. A dozen original glazed is $7.29 and a dozen assorted is $8.29 and they also have a good deal if you buy 2 dozen doughnuts (12 glazed and 12 assorted) for only $13.49. Some special varieties are extra including the limited offered Luv Bug!! (20 cents more). I stopped at the Scranton Krispy Kreme recently and picked up 2 dozen doughnuts, which I'm still enjoying all for myself back home in NH with my Starbucks coffee. The Krispy Kreme coffee really doesn't wow me though. I know some KK locations in California actually sell Coffee Bean coffee drinks.

Hot......Glazed.......Moist.......Doughy.......Doughnuts..... When that hot light is on, we stop. These doughnuts when they are hot have no comparison. Sweet, pull apart and warm these doughnuts are the stuff sweet dreams are made of! Pricing is spot on and the doughnuts are the best. If the hot light is on, stop by, you won't regret it!

My friends it has been said, I like Krispy Kreme doughnuts. My friends, I like Krispy Kreme doughnuts. No, I love Krispy Kreme doughnut. I love Original Glazed hot or cold. But if you get hot, buy two dozens for one will not make it home. I love sprinkled doughnuts. I love cream and jelly filled doughnuts. The one thing I don't like, where are the peanut doughnuts. If you have a peanut allergy, stop playing Russian Roulette with your life. Bring back the peanut doughnuts Krispy Kreme!

For a short while we had several KK in our area in NYC...then the health craze hit and these wonderful gems started to disappear. After a while, you just couldn't find a KK shop anywhere...imagine my delight when I saw that beautiful green and white sign from the highway. Went 20 minutes out of my way to circle back to treat the family to the melty sugary wonder that is the fresh hot KK glazed donut! A dozen for the house and three more for the ride home...yeah, they're that good.

I was certainly excited to see a Krispy Kreme Donuts and this particular location seemed exceptional. It was super cute with a seating area with fresh flowers on little tables. Where can you find that kind of authentic charm anymore? We just got ice coffees as we were tooling around to see what Scranton had to offer. The staff was friendly and the specialty donuts were fresh. I even overheard them offer to warm-up someone's glazed donut order:)
