This is definitely the better coney dog of the two restaurants- and we found that out by going to both stores for dogs back to back one afternoon. It's nicer and cleaner inside this store- nicer than you would expect if you've never been there considering it's a hot dog restaurant. While I didn't taste much of a difference in the dogs themselves, the coney sauce and mustard were both better here. This is definitely a great place to go for a good but quick and cheap lunch.

This place is a Scranton staple. Even though I was vegetarian for many of my earlier years and the Texas Wiener wasn't really my cup of tea, I still loved to go here for the grilled cheeses, the crispy delicious cheese fries, and the classic appearance of the place. Recently I stopped in, as a meat eater, and got myself a Chili smothered Hamburger with mustard and onions, it was just pure unadulterated deliciousness. It made me wish I had a time machine. Though I still don't eat the wieners I can tell from everybody else's reaction that they are worth every penny. Speaking of pennies this place is insanely affordable, I've seen my brother purchase the whole menu in a sitting. All you need to know is that its cash only, but to be honest you're going to save so much money going here rather than a chain its worth the ATM fee.

Absolutely amazing. Been going here since I was a kid. Burgers are a bit....eh. The wieners is what they are known for and they are worth the visit. I would highly recommend not ordering anything else. Fries etc. typically are terrible.

Intending to go to Coney Island Lunch up Lackawanna for chili and fries, but alas, they were closed, and ended up here instead where I had chili fries. They don't serve chili, only a chili sauce, which was okay, but not great. The fries were nicely done, and the whole thing was quite filling. The decor was fabulous; very vintage 1920s, with white subway tile and white beadboard, and the service was excellent.

I heard that the Weiner here is very yummy. The best hot-dog in Scranton. Also their burger is good, the grilled stuff inside is awesome. Can't miss them when you passed by the downtown! But ,cash only!

This is not the original Coney Island and I hope the Yelper's aren't confusing it with the one on Lakawanna Avenue. It was pretty scary in here. FLIES everywhere and not the house flys that sneak in but the little fruit fly ones that signify dirty kitchen. It really grossed me out...it wasn't until later I realized that this was the FAKE Coney Island working off tried to copy the recipe from the original.

A great place to get a great wiener. I'm a sucker for real, diner-style chili dogs!

Been meaning to write this review for awhile... 1/2 star for it sitting off of Lackawanna Avenue looking like something out of a bygone era that should have been shut down by 'progress' in the sleazy 70's. It screams "EAT HERE"! How could I say no? 1/2 star for the feud. Historic places like this always have a flavorful history. This one has questionable business dealings, a rivalry and a mysterious fire. The only thing it lacked was a proper sex scandal. Google is your friend. 3 stars for the food. After a night of keggers with the college kids this was the perfect lunch. Texas wieners, fresh and hot crinkle fries with gravy... take that hangover! I think I even squeezed in a grilled cheese sandwich (yum). Every town in America should have a place like this. If you are ever rolling through Scranton (as you do) stop here, you can't miss it.

Came here last year after going to Steamtown Train Museum. Great hot dogs but they're small. I'm not giving this place a fifth star because there's no good parking and its small.

The Coney is really good hot dog joint. They recently remodeled, along with the whole block, so it is really clean and nice inside. I am a big fan of their dogs! Like any good hot dog place they are reasonably priced, quickly placed in front of you, and taste just fantastic. What more do you need to hear? The other items on the menu are nice, but probably not as special as the dogs; the burger is ok, the fries are nice, the onion rings are ok (fries were better, imho). Try out the Coney if your haven't already!

A Scranton landmark recently reopened after a fire. A must stop for anyone passing through the Electric City. Their wieners are the best I've ever tasted.

The weiners are a bit mild for my taste. However, they make good chili and onions, the place is spotless and the people who work there are very friendly. I also have no doubt that they use quality ingredients. Again, I just think the dogs themselves are mild, which isn't meant to be negative, I believe in this case its a matter of preference to the spicier dog that Coney Island Lunch serves.

The original Coney Island Texas Lunch is more than a place to get great texas wieners, it is a landmark; a gem from a bygone era when Scranton was a prospering industrial town, when people like Babe Ruth stayed at the luxurious Casey Hotel on Lackawanna Ave., when it's sidewalks were teeming with people. People of all stripes- from railroad men to lawyers flocked to the Coney Island Lunch for a quick but delicious bite to eat. The original owner Steve would lay the buns in a long row across his arm and place the locally made gutheinz hot dogs in each one before covering them with the spicy sauce which filled the air with the pungeant smell of cumin and freshly cut onions. Those days are gone, but the Coney Island remains, and when you step inside and take a seat in one of the 80+ year old wooden booths, you'll be convinced that time travel is indeed possible.

Simply put, these little dawgs are just good....probably explains why this place is on the 4th generation family owning it. You have to walk in and see for yourself. you wont be dissapointed. Greasy Dawgs with great Chili and Mustard...Make sure you get them with the Works!!!!

Hands down the best Texas wieners I've ever had. Just make sure you get them with everything. This place is a landmark, and it deserves all the praise it gets. I've been going here since I was a child. It was never that hard to convince my dad to take me here for lunch. Haha. Do yourself a favor, and make sure you order some gravy fries. These fries are magic -- all crinkly. The gravy seals the deal. I had a chance over Thanksgiving to come in and check out the new layout since the fire. I was terribly afraid they would completely redo the original decor, but I was relieved to see it pretty much unchanged. I was impressed by how much they expanded the dining room -- about double the size. It is a shame the grill man is no longer allowed to lay the buns down along his arm though. Health concerns aside, that was fun. Also, one of my all-time favorite waitresses works here. Sadly I don't remember her name, but you'd recognize her by her dyed black hair and sweet demeanor. You've always been so nice to us. Thank you.

I'm about to make my annual holiday pilgrimage to visit my mother-in-law. My future Texas wieners are the only thing making the thought of the trip bearable.

Cheat, fast lunch. Place was very clean and service was friendly. Conneys were pretty small, but were good. Ordered the onion rings and they were very crispy and tasty. Recommended.

I do like the food here, I was very pleased with it when I went, This isn't the original Coney Island Texas Lunch though, they are right up the street.

Had a Texas wiener with chili- they are about 3/4th the size of a regular wiener. They are freshly made in town and very good. I also had the chili cheese fries. I am sort of pick about my fries and these were amazing - very crispy, like they were coated with a seasoned batter almost. I am a big fan of Lafeyette Coney Island in Detroit and have to say that they place a high second. Very, very good. Perfect for lunch!

Awesome wieners! I grew up in Rhode Island where in my opinion have the best wieners in the world. Coney Island of Scranton were awesome! Great price and friendly service. I didn't realize that they only take cash. The waitress said it was no problem and that I could come back at a later time to pay. I asked if they wanted to keep my drivers license until I payed and she said nope, we trust you will come back. That blew me away. You don't see that anymore. Will be back for sure next time I visit Scranton.

I've never had texas weiner like this before - but I loved it! I didn't quite know what to expect from a diner like this, but it was delicious and I ended up ordering another one. The chili on top of the weiner was delicious. Definitely will be back!
