This review is LONG overdue. I kept forgetting about it. The Richlandtown Inn is a historic building nestled in no-wheresville Bucks County (Richlandtown) just outside of Quakertown. I've eaten here a few times in my life and the restaurant has changed hands a few times over the years but based on all my visits it seems that the different owners have always strived make it more of a fine dining establishment. The interior look of the restaurant is quite pleasant. There is a thirty some foot mahogany and oak wood bar that dates back to the early 1800's when the building was built. The dining room has white linens, soft candlelight and fresh flowers. The only complaint about the interior would be that it is quite dark bordering on it being hard to read the menu. I'm all for ambiance but the dining rooms could use some additional lighting. My wife, my brother and I went here for dinner and the food was really very good. It's French style cuisine and the food is what you'd expect from French style cooking so if you're a fan of the cuisine it won't disappoint. The food is rich, buttery, sauce laden and delicious. A very satisfying meal. The service we got from our waitress is another story. She was a very pleasant young girl but she was a complete and total mess. If that wasn't her very first night of waitressing ever then I sincerely hope she picks another profession because she didn't know what the heck she was doing all evening and she couldn't have been flustered from being too busy because the restaurant wasn't very full. Highlights of her service; coming back to confirm the food order, bringing food out at odd times (i.e. not all appetizer or diner plates coming out together but staggered by several minutes), bringing the wrong entrees out to us because she grabbed another tables plates and starting to put the food in front of us until we pointed out the mistake, not bringing out all the food we were supposed to get, taking away a side dish of food that was already being eaten (amplification below). The oddest thing that happened with our waitress was what she did when I pointed out a discrepancy in the dishes when she stopped back to check on us a few minutes after serving us our CORRECT entrees. My brother and I got meat dishes and my wife ordered fish. My wife's dish came with a vegetable and a starch as expected. My brother and I got very similar dishes yet his came with a nice potato gratin and green beans served in ramekins and I wasn't served any starch or vegetable even though both meals were supposed to come with them. After I questioned the waitress about the discrepancy between my dish and my brother's she got a distressed look on her face and said "oh my gosh you weren't supposed to get this" and took away the ramekin of potato gratin that my brother had already been eating. ??? Even if a wrong side is served to a diner then what is the point of taking it away if they've already been eating it, especially if you're not going to replace it with something? It's not like you can do anything with the side at that point except throw it out and you'll look more generous if you just let the diner keep it, even more so if they were supposed to have it in the first place! I'm pretty sure it was the correct side since my wife's dish came with the potato gratin as well. So in the end neither my brother or I received a starch and additionally I didn't receive a vegetable even though both were supposed to come with our entrees. I suspect that the waitress just took away one of my brother's sides to partially cover her mistake because she was rattled. That's the best I can figure anyway. Who knows. She was one hot mess! The food was very good and had the service matched it I would have given 5 stars. The fact that the waitress was friendly and apologetic is the only thing that saved this from being a 2 star review. With how good the food was I'd like to try it again some time to see if we can get a competent server. A perfect example of how an otherwise great dining experience can be marred by bad service.

MY bride an I had Saturday dinner, worst restaurant food I have ever been served! My wife had twin lobster tails, could not eat them, came out almost cold and full of water, the vegies, must have been the lowest grade of mixed vegies you could buy, also almost cold. I tried panfried scallops, swimming in some sort of clear liquid, also worst vegies. Cook excuse he was closed for a couple of weeks and just getting back, I could go on, but I must add the lobster tails were $40, scallops were $20? I would not go back to this place, EVER!!!!!
