First time here seated quickly, approached by two different staff members asking did I need anything, was I ready to order or did I need longer. The waitress offered suggestions based on my questions. Have no complaints. Nice friendly staff. I wasn't very hungry today so I ordered a French onion soup- it was very good. They have a homemade bread bar that I was able to get fresh bread with my soup and all the breads were really. The only thing I would say was average was my coconut cake. It was tasty but the cake was too dry and a touch too sweet, but I ate it anyway. I would definitely eat here again. I sat at the bar and watched all the platers of food go by and they all looked really good. 2nd day in a row. Had the broccoli cheese soup wonderful!

Have been here for both lunch and breakfast a few weeks ago and the food was pretty good. The first time me and my mom went was for breakfast so that is what I am reviewing at this time. Upon arriving it was busy and we had to wait for around 10-15 minutes before we were seated but this was not really a problem because it was Fourth Of July weekend so I did not mind the wait. The menu is pretty big so it has something for everyone. My mom and I both ordered Skillets. I ordered the Smokey Ranchero and my mom ordered the Special Skillet which was a burger skillet. My Smokey Ranchero was very good it came with Chicken, Bacon, gouda cheese and ranch dressing. My Moms skillet was good too. The reason I am not giving 5 stars is because the bread that came with the skillets was cold. Other than that Exeter family restaurant is a good place for good cheap food.

Place was crowded on a Saturday morning. My husband & I can't understand why. The food was horrible. Seriously, how can you screw up an American cheese omelet with bacon? They eggs were dry. They had 2 slices of cheese inside the eggs. & charged extra to have cheese added to it (because of the dryness). The service was slow but I don't think it was the waitress's fault. We were her only table in that section.

I've been here twice. The first visit was great - good food, nice service, good price. So we decided to go back today. I ordered the chicken croquettes which came with a side and the salad bar. The croquettes were terrible! The server took them away & asked if I wanted anything instead. I declined as my husband was finished his meal at that point. What really turned me off is the lack of customer service from the manager. He never came to the table to address our complaint & took the entrée off the check but charged us for the salad - $4.50! I had a small side salad expecting to enjoy my entrée. At the register we asked him about it & he curtly stated I had access to the full salad bar & should have been charged the full salad bar price of $8.50; implying he did us a favor. Really?!

As far as diner restaurants go, this one is a great choice! Much better and more inventive menu than a typical finer. Great salad bar and specials. We had Ashley as a waitress, and she was wonderful!! Very friendly, and she went above and beyond for us with prepping our food to take home with some extra ice. Food was great, higher quality than you would expect!

I have no idea where to start with this review, but this place deserves all of the "best of berks" awards FOR SURE. I love the outside of the diner and the fact they have a separate dining area to open when it gets busy! The servers are always down to earth, personable, and very accommodating even when they have multiple tables and the place is a madhouse! I love this diner so much! Of course, it isn't a five star fancy restaurant but it is a GREAT diner. All of the waitresses have their own personalities which, in my opinion, is what every great restaurant needs in order to create a true relaxing atmosphere. Every time my mom and I come here, we are never disappointed. If something on the salad bar is low or cold, they gladly refill or replace it for you. My mother gets salmon, crab cakes, or shrimp and cheese tortellini. She loves everything and it's always made the way you suggest it (ie. No butter). My go to meal here are the pancakes. SO good. The seasonal fall pumpkin pancakes with chocolate chips are my favorite. They even come with cinnamon butter! And the diner offers sugar free syrup, as well, to offset the chocolate chips ;) The last time I went they baked the bananas into the pancakes instead of slicing them on top. LOVED them this way. I hope they keep it up!! The only thing I wish is they had more vegetarian options, like a homemade veggie burger or some unique salads or wraps! They are very accommodating and polite. Bathrooms and kitchen area are always clean. And you can even peak in the kitchen when the doors open to see how well kept it is inside! Good place to eat!

Really good service and the food is always yummy!

The food is usually pretty good. The service is hit or miss. Tonight, it was a miss. The waitress gave us our food, didn't check on us, gave us the check and she never came back. No refills on drinks. No "would you like desert? " it was just meh.

Note, I didn't actually eat at Exeter, so this review doesn't reflect the food. The food could be absolutely fabulous for all I know. However, we also didn't really get much of a chance to try the food due to crap service (or rather the lack of ANY service). I did a cursory search for breakfast restaurants near our hotel and we decided on Exeter, as I was turned off by the reviews and menu of a higher-ranking breakfast spot (Tomkat - check out their comments on their menu about substitutions/omissions/additions - HUGE turnoff). We arrived at Exeter and it is a cool-looking, old-fashion diner-type building. It was fairly busy inside (around 10 AM) - BUT not busy enough for the fact that we were point blank ignored for about 10 minutes without a greeting, glance or any acknowledgement. Eesh. We stood around, looking stupidly at one another for about 10 minutes, "waiting to be seated" as the sign instructed. Elderly waitresses passed us without comment - however that gave us a chance to view the food from their trays. My husband was immediately turned off by their hash browns: those precooked frozen triangular patties. And I didn't think the rest of the food looked any grade above IHOP (definitely not worth the wait to be seated or being pointedly ignored). We overheard the cashier near the hostess station ask an older couple checking out how their food was, and they replied that the wife had gotten her order wrong (cheese on her sandwich when she had ordered it without) and the server didn't correct it, and that the husband got his corned beef hash 10 minutes after his eggs. The cashier's reply: "She must have been busy." That's all. Not even a half-assed apology, no reduction on their bill, nothing. Um, done. We left disgustedly (nobody took notice anyway). We asked the older couple where we should go since we were out-of-towners, they directed us to the Breakfast Hut (review later).

Good food but bad service. The cashier insulted me after mixing my tab with someone else's. I won't return.

There are not many diners in the area that can compete with this classic and authentic American diner foods. Nor are there many diners that have a full stocked bar at the counter to enjoy from. I am a personal fan of their breakfast selection, my all time favorite being the chocolate chip pancakes. They do not whimp out on their chocolate chips! Most places will only bother to put the chips in the middle, but not the diner! They make sure that your whole pancake has an equal distribution of chips to cake. I'm a definite fan! The diner has a wide selection of food options to choose from, as well as, a well stocked salad bar, 2 daily soup options, and a fresh bread station. There are many variations that you can choose from of each section of the menu that generally includes a side and soup. Although not always the freshest, the standards aren't generally set too high for it being a diner. The staff is very attentive and gets the food to your table in a very timely manner. They are also very good about making sure that you have a new drink or a refill before you cup is empty. I've never had to wait for a table at the diner as they have two very large spaces to accommodate parties of all sizes.

Ok, so maybe it's not the place that I'm headed for dinner but I love a good diner for breakfast and Exeter will do just fine. Decent breakfast food, good variety of menu options, classic diner coffee and a very patient wait staff that never seem to mind if you linger with friends for long periods of time. A go to place for breakfast with my girlfriends.

I came here on a Sunday afternoon (around 1 30) and the place was pretty full, but my group of 4 sat down almost right away. We waited 10 minutes for a server to come over and take drink orders, and it was another 10 after that just to get our drinks, which another waitress dropped off so we did not get to put our order in. From the time we sat down until someone came to tale our order we had already been at the table for 30 minutes, and no, we did not ask for more time to look at the menu at any point. The breakfast menu is very dissapointing and small, if that's what you are looking for to eat then I do not recommend coming here. Someone ordered a cheese steak omelette and corn beef hash. The omelet was mediocre, the spaghetti sauce on it way too sweet and the hash was very runny. Yuck! The rest of my group ordered the mac n cheese pulled pork panini. It was satisfying, but the "6 cheese" mac n cheese is not very flavorful, and their "in house" pulled pork is covered in bbq sauce that is not home made. All in all, this was a poor experience and I would not go back. I don't mind if there is a wait at restaurants but 30 minutes to Wait to put an order in, is unexceptional unless your group has asked for more time. I know they are busy, but if you don't have enough staff, then don't seat people until you know someone is available to wait on them.

Waitress did not come and check on us very often and she was slightly rude. There were not many different breakfast options. The salad bar looked appetizing, however ordering a side salad was underwhelming. The soups selection was "serve yourself" and minimal. The food was just meh.

Very busy Diner , Salad Bar is small and fresh. Bread and Soup also made daily and self service. Breakfast is good , coffee is weak. Menu has everything and is Diner style . Service is good . I try to get here Sat for the stuffed cabbage special. Its 86 by dinner time so come early . This diner is worth a visit. Great value for family dining.

This is my Saturday night revisit. The stuffed cabbage was wonderful, as always. The Seafood bisque was replaced with a very very thick clam chowder. I only found potatoes in mine. The salad bar was good, as usual. My baked potato was small. The rice pudding was ordinary. I will try the pie on my next visit. It was rather cold inside and the heater was blowing cool air, off and on, while I was there.

Their salad bar is great. Fresh bread, nice selection and decent soup. Food is what Diner food should be, If you buy a steak or Italian then you are clueless.

Seriously I can't believe some of the bad reviews. My husband and I are here weekly. I do agree that some waitresses are much friendly than others. I wish I knew that blonde short haired gal that is real sassy. I love her!!! They are always friendly and I love seeing the owners help out. The food is yummy!!! I have never waited 20 minutes to be waited on. Someone is lying. They have the biggest breakfast menu ever. So many choices and you get a lot of food. We will continue to brag about how great this place is. My only thing is that I wish you had potato soup once in awhile. Keep up the great work Michael and staff. :)

This is one of the best diners in the area. The staff is very friendly and polite. The food is always good and comes out farely quickly. My husband ordered the steak and eggs and it was done perfectly ( he is very picky about having his steak cooked to his liking ). I had the SOS and it was great. Defiantly very large portions for a good price. We live about 25 minutes away and we pass about 5 or 6 other restaurants on our way here but we'd rather drive a little further for good food. Whether it's breakfast lunch or dinner it's always great. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for good diner food.

This is the best diner in the area! I'm a local girl and this place has been amazing since they opened. They have a great breakfast, amazing lunch and dinner, and late night has a wide selection. Their salad bar is amazing and is a staple of every lunch or dinner I eat there. The service is awesome and friendly! I give this place 5 stars for a reason.

I am re-reviewing this restaurant after my last review was removed for "conflict of interest" despite the fact that neither I nor anyone I know works for Exeter Family Restaurant nor for any restaurant at all. Seemed like an arbitrary decision by Yelp for whatever reason, but since we're not given the opportunity to defend ourselves, I'll just have settle for this. I vacillate between giving this place 5 stars and 1 star. So I'll sorta average it, but begrudgingly. When EFR is good, it is really good, but when it's bad, it's worse than almost any other place I've been. I've had 2 servers tell me to leave because they wanted to be sat again (to the owner's credit, he contacted me and fixed the problem), I've had servers sit and chat with me (love that!). I've had great, speedy, friendly service, and other times I've been left with cold coffee and inedible food with hair in it. When I come with my 10+ family members, we're treated like gold, but when I come by myself (which is often) I'm sometimes treated like a leper. I've had the best Italian Wedding soup ever, and I've had the lumpiest whatever that was. See where I'm going with this? It's the inconsistency. My most recent visit involved a parmigiana dish that doesn't come with spaghetti. The first time I've ever encountered this in my life, and I'm Italian, thank you very much. How do you not serve spaghetti with a parm dish? Okay, okay, fine. At least offer two sides instead of one to make up for the fact that your meatloaf parm (interesting in concept, if not lacking in execution) doesn't come with spaghetti. Again, to his credit, the owner contacted me, but shortly afterwards my review was removed from Yelp, and I can't help but think that the two are connected. Come on, EFR. I really want you to be my *place*. Everywhere I've lived, I've had my *place*. I don't have a *place* now, because I can't trust you.

Love this place! Friendly and fast service, great diner food, and a wide selection. Opened 24/7 and has breakfast all day! I have been here multiple times with a different server each time, and have never been disappointed.

I love Exeter Family Restaurant! My husband and I have truly never had a bad meal here and we come about once a month or so. We went today for lunch and everything was great. I had the gorgonzola chicken salad sandwich, which was a Saturday lunch special, and my husband had one of their new wraps. Our 1 year old had their kids meal mac and cheese which of course he always loves. My sandwich was overflowing with fresh spring mix and chicken salad and my husband ended up having to take half of his wrap home because it was so big. One of my favorites there is the Rachel panini. It's like a Reuben but with turkey. It's delicious! Our sever today was great. We have had her before and she is always very lovely. The GM or owner (it is the gentleman who responds to the posts here on Yep) is always there when we go and he always has a smile on his face. Although he has never personally come to our table, he is often at tables chatting up guests and it always seems like he knows everyone. These recent negative reviews honestly make me a little sad. My husband and I have been coming here for about 6 or 7 years. Before we had our little one we used to make plenty of stops here at 1 or 2 am after a night out and now we enjoy coming here for breakfast or lunch with our son. We live in Exeter and aside from fast food and 1 terrible chain restaurant, there isn't much around here. I understand that people have 1 bad experience somewhere and they want to tell everyone. I really think most of these negative reviews are based off of 1 visit but I am basing my review off of the many times I have been here. I think slow service or bad food that people are talking about in their reviews is a rare exception here and not close to the norm. My only suggestion would to maybe have 1 person that is designated to seat guests during your very busy times. The girl who was seating today was also checking people out and she was pretty backed up when we arrived so we did stand and wait for a few minutes. We didn't mind at all but the couple in front of us was elderly and I could tell the gentleman couldn't stand much longer. We love it here. Keep up the good work! We will see you soon!

Exeter family is a staple when you are in the Exeter area. The food is always delicious and quality. All staff and servers are personable and attentive. I've been coming here to eat for at least 7 years and have never had a bad experience. A great place to catch up with family and friends. This place is run by great people and the food is delicious. 10 outta 10!
