Service is outstanding and the food amazing. My husband and I, along with two close friends, decided to visit this past Sunday. We chose to be seated outside on their new gorgeous patio. It's very pretty and private and feels so elegant with the white tablecloths (I'm a sucker for white linen). Drinks are a little on the expensive side, but well made. I love how they always bring out a little something from the chef while you browse the menu - we received crostini with melted cheddar and pesto that was delicious! Their homemade rolls are warm and yeasty fabulous (had to pretend I was trying to not overdo it and turn down seconds - in truth, I could have eaten 5 of them). Hubby had cream of sweet potato soup for his appetizer and filet mignon as his main course, while I had red beet salad with goat cheese and then the World's Best Duck. We did not need doggy bags, and neither did our friends - I can't even remember what they had as I was too thrilled with my meal to pay attention. Dessert was coconut ice cream (homemade) with bing cherries for 3 of us, and 1 had the classic crème brulee. Everything was so delicious! I must say I really enjoyed our server, who was attentive and funny - I like that combination. Last but not least, the owners, Bill and Monir, really know how to treat their guests. I think it's very classy that they always make a point of speaking to everyone - we wish them much success at Green Hills!

It cracks me up when I read a bad review about a place like Dans. It has been in business many years. You shouldn't hesitate. 3 of us dined last night in the garden room. Everything was perfect. I had mushroom soup and New York strip. My fellow diners had salmon and lamb. Everything was delicious. Dans is a little pricey but that's why it's a place you go to for a special occasion. The tab for us three for drinks, wine, dinner, and dessert was a little over $200 with tip. We thoroughly enjoyed our evening.

Should have added this in the original review. My apologies to Dan's. The only reason I did not give Dan's five stars was because there was not a big crowd there at the time my wife and I went. So I left myself a little breathing room in case it would not have been as good an experience if really crowded. But make no mistake, our time there was definitely five star.

For this area, this place is out of the park. In fact, we dine in major metropolitan areas around the US, and Dan's was in upper percentile. Good wine selection. Hostess was friendly. Wait staff was informed and attentive. Food runners were pleasent. Location was quaint and the building was nicely done in period fashion. U Intimate atmosphere. Both owners greeted us and were part of the overall excellent delivery. Oh, and extra good eats sent out by the chef; not only yummy, but greatly appreciated! We have vowed to make this a monthly regular parents' night out. Pleasantly surprised! We will be back for this reasonably priced dining experience.

Let me start by saying that Dans is good restaurant, and I always review a place based on what it's trying to be. Dan's bills itself as fine dining and has the prices and service to match. Unfortunately, the food just doesn't impress. They have since changed their menu a bit, but I had the lamb, and my companions each had the pork loin. Nothing really comes to mind as memorable. My expectation at fine dining vs just a diner or family restaurant would be flavor and preparation, both of which were just mediocre. I wouldn't say the lamb was tough, but it wasn't exactly tender either - definitely a bit over-done, On the other hand, the pork was appropriately cooked, but lacked flavor. The ambiance was a nice, if perhaps a little stuffy and dated - catering to a more old-school fine dining crowd. But that part is probably a matter of taste. Wait staff was excellent, I don't believe we saw the bottom of our water glasses at all, but were not hurried or interrupted in conversation either. Final verdict is exactly as yelp suggests. "Meh".

My company decided to have its holiday work party at Dan's recently, and it did not disappoint! Our group was fairly large (roughly 25 or so), which led me to believe the meal was going to be served "buffet" style, where we would all just wander around and fill our plates and make painfully forced awkward small talk with one another. I was wrong, thank goodness! We were sat down at a huge table and served a wonderful three course meal. It felt less like a work party and more like a large family gathering. With large parties, it's sometimes hard to coordinate the timing with each dish, but the starters, entrees, and desserts were all brought to us in perfect intervals. Kudos to Dan's and its staff for delivering such a great experience.

Absof****nlootely great. Where to begin? Here's what I had: Hudson Valley Foie Gras Seasonal Preserves and Fresh Fruits/Toasted Brioche with a side of lipitor; Filet Mignon of Beef Shiitake Mushrooms/Whipped Potatoes/Swiss Chard/Bordelaise/Red Onion Jam (medium rare of course) and wonderful wine by the glass (I was solo and I couldn't convince any of the waitresses to be my designated driver so no bottle service this time around) and topped it all off with one scoop of blackberry ice cream. Monir the proprietor brought complimentary mushroom ravioli that was superb! The fois gras was cooked to my specs (medium) and so was the steak (medium rare). The best way that I know of to describe Dans is a culinary oasis in the desolate culinary dessert that is Reading PA and the surrounding areas. I drove past mile and miles of virtually every national franchise fast food joint there is and couldn't find a decent restaurant. Dan's isn't great because there isn't competition; Dan's stands on its own right. The restaurant could easily be relocated to the West Village but the property however can't. There's a wonderful landscaped garden patio that I'm sure will be the place to dine on the spring evenings. From the start of my gastronomical experience the staff performed as a well rehearsed orchestra in perfect synchronicity and concert. Monir was the conductor that ever so gracefully directed every movement. Bravo! I'm not int he Reading area very often but when I am I'll make it a point of swinging by Dan's prior to my return home

Excellent! Although I had been to Dan's a couple of times when they were in downtown Reading, this was my first visit to since they had moved to their new location. My wife had made a reservation for last evening as she wanted to celebrate my birthday with a special experience. Dan's did not disappoint. First of all, the service was excellent! Our waitress was pleasant, personable, and professional. Her attention, combined with an occasional visit by the owner, made us feel welcomed. The atmosphere was also charming and inviting The star of the evening was the food. My wife selected this restaurant based on recommendations that is was considered to be one of the best in Berks County I have been to many fine restaurants, and I have to say that Dan's did not disappoint. After the chefs complimentary appetizer, as well as French onion soup ( both excellent) I had selected the salmon ( it was a difficult decision, as the strip steak looked very appetizing as well). I made the perfect choice. The salmon, prepared wonderfully, was served with a combination of risotto, kale, asparagus, and complimented with a mustard buerre blanc sauce. It was exquisite! As I stated earlier, I truly enjoy fine dining, but I feel that when a restaurant goes beyond my expectations, they deserve recognition. The only glitch in this dining experience ( as my wife mentioned to me later in the evening) was that, when she made the reservation, she had requested a recognition of my birthday celebration with our desserts (candle, etc) Unfortunately, that never occurred. It did disappoint her a little, but it's not a big deal. If the biggest concern I have is not being recognized for aging another year, I'm ok with it. :) Again, thank you for an wonderful experience. I look forward to return visits. I can't wait until the warmer weather arrives to sample outdoor dining at Dan's as well!

As always my wife and I had an unbelievable experience. The wild mushroom salad was unreal and the Twin Duck breasts cooked to perfection, my wife has the Pennsylvania Chicken and that was amazing also.

Great food, great atmosphere, and some of the best service I've had in quite a long time. I don't get out to this area often, but you can be sure that the next time I do, I'll be dining here again!

Nice find! Great service. Good food. Enjoyed the vegan pasta and the salads. The expresso was huge, hot, and caffeinated! The cab was good. Nice atmosphere. Definitely coming back.

This was our first time here and it will NOT be our last. Everything was exceptional including our waitress Kathy. The owner is very pleasant and the food was extraordinary! We had the lump crab cake starter and the sweet potato soup. Wow!!!! Amazing! I never ate lamb in my life so I tried the rack of lamb and was very glad about my choice. It was so tasty!!! My love had the tuna and that was amazing too if you like a kick of spice. For dessert we had the bread pudding with dark chocolate and caramel ice cream. My love had French vanilla creme brûlée. Everything was above and beyond our standards which makes it worth every penny and us wanting to frequent here more often! Thank you to everyone who took care of us!

We were looking for someplace to go for our anniversary and saw the great reviews for Dans at Green Hills. Even though it's a 45 minute drive to get there, we decided to give it a try. I had the sweet potato soup to start with and it was delicious. My husband had the mushroom soup and liked it also. I had the pork loin with sweet potato/brussel sprout hash for my entree. The pork was very tender and juicy, and the hash was really good. My husband had the New York strip steak, and it was huge. He said the asparagus was very tender also. I had the creme Brule for dessert. It was very creamy and good, one of the better ones that I've had. My husband had the chocolate souffle, which was very good and rich. We were also very impressed with the service, it was spot on. The staff were very friendly and attentive. While pricey, it was well worth the cost. We will definitely be back for special occasions.

Best restaurant I've been to in the Reading area. Great food, atmosphere. The staff was very friendly. Very good place for a dinner date. Weather permitting, I suggest sitting in the outdoor area to enjoy the view.

Nice ambiance in the large dining room facing the garden. Comfortable white tablecloth covered tables overlooking the patio with a view of the manicured garden. Excellent spot for a business dinner or a romantic evening. Started with baked escargot which were 8-9 snails in a tasty garlic breadcrumb puree. Please with the quantity but the escargot were overcooked and partially tough.Rack of lamb was excellent. Perfectly cooked med-rare and tender. So good I needed to pick the meat off the bones. Desert was billed as a chocolate souffle but was instead a molten chocolate brownie. Great desert though. Had a reasonably priced St. Emillion wine that was a bit too young to be served in my view- 2011

The owner deleted my review, so here it is again. I wish I could leave a negative amount of stars. For fear of sounding like 'that person'- I would like to however state that I have worked in the restaurant business for many years and my partner is a chef. I have dined at Dan's when they were still in Reading, The Green Hills Inn and Dan's since taking over Green Hills Inn. I tried Dans twice since their move and both times I promised I would not go back. The owners could use a refresher course on fine dining. I won't bore you with the poorly prepared filet or runny crème Brûlée or the poor service. The menu has not changed in several years. There is no excuse for the food or veggies to be cold or underprepared. The same dessert they have been preparing for years should be flawless! I feel badly for the chef-it seems as though he has no creative control. I say this because the way the owners try to be in control of everything-bringing the wine, taking orders, bringing food-I can only imagine what the poor kitchen staff has to endure. Embarrassingly enough, I have to admit we went for dinner on New Years Eve. The menu was a 5 course prix fixe menu (fixed price and you chose your entree, dessert, etc from their list of 2 options) which was $110 per person. When one is paying $110 a person, the staff and menu should be impeccable. The price should have been more like $60-$80 a person. We were left with empty drinks more often than not. The wait staff-which included the owners were unorganized and it was complete bedlam. We didn't even receive an amuse-bouche, our soup came first and half way though, we enviously watched the table next to us receive theirs! The lobster mac and cheese had frozen, tough lobster in it. The risotto was undercooked. And the two deserts to choose from were cheesecake and pot de crème. The cheesecake was not even made in house!! It was clearly a commercial product. Gross! This was the worst dining experience I have ever had and the worst $300+ dollars I have ever spent. I am sorry for the others that have left 4-5 stars because they truly do not know what good service and good food is. The owners are lucky they have these people to rely on. But I digress-even Olive Garden has an average of 4 stars.
