Not open during business hours. The worst thing that you can do is not care about your own business. I'm writing this @6:02pm on Wednesday 7/2/14 they should have been open at 5:30pm..

Pros - Great food, from apps to entrees Cons - They were out of lamb! Ouch! My wife and loved our meals but we thought it was pricey. Example, since they didn't have lamb, my wife got a chicken meal. The meal was essentially 6 chicken cubes with a bowl of rice for $19.00! Good but pricey.

My husband and I were looking for something different to eat. We were tired of the same old seafood and chicken dinners from your usual chain restaurants. We decided to stop at Aashiyana's. Thank goodness I'm writing this instead of telling you about. I couldn't tell you how to pronounce the name of the restaurant. I don't know how my husband managed to do it on his Al Bundy salary, but he must have rented the restaurant out for an hour as we ate our meal. A customer left as we got there and another family came as we left. We had a very personal dining experience with the waitress and a lady that seem to be the owner. The waitress even showed us how to fold the napkins as they were on the table. The napkins reminded me of crowns. The napkins definitely added to the decor making it an elegant Indian experience, considering the owners took the time to fix up, decorate and paint an old building to make it more attractive. I don't know a lot about Indian food but my seafood curry was delicious. The salmon was moist and the curry made it so flavorful. I ordered my meal with a medium spice heat. This turn out to be perfect. The heat from the spice didn't overpower the meal. My husband loved his shrimp curry as well. If you are into eating one portion at a time you will definitely have another for later. But don't try to share it with someone like my husband who ate all of his and some of mine. I can't wait to eat the rest of mine for lunch tomorrow. I was so overwhelmed by what meal to order, I just realized we were only offered water. I guess when I go back I won't be ordering a vodka gimlet. They may only serve water.

Awesome Indian food, and as good as the Indian food anywhere (including bigger cities). I have been here many, many times and it's always excellent.

Excellent food! It reminds me of food I would eat at my families home. Definitely a place you want to try. There is a real lack of good ethnic food in Reading... And this place fills that void. Since the new management has taken over, the staff is friendlier, the food is better, and the place looks much nicer.

My family and I have been coming to Aashiyana since it first opened..especially for the lunch buffet. I think this is the absolute best Indian food you will get in the area and some of the best I've had compared to a few locations I've tried up and down the east coast. 100% suggest the chicken tikka masala and the naan is amazing and always fresh!

Considering the location bfe central PA, it wasn't all that bad. The food had flavor and a nice kick.

Hair in one of our samosas. When we checked those plates they had black smears on them, definitely not clean. The restaurant is BYOB and the owner says if we want beer, she can have one of her employees run to the bar to get some beer for us. I swear it took an hour to get our main meals. There was only one other table waiting for their meal. The food was actually pretty decent. We ordered the garlic naan, palak paner, and chickwn tikki masala. When we got the naan, it was good but small so we ordered another. The entrees were more on the runny side but flavorful.

Whenever I go here, it's empty. Yet, the waitress takes about an hour to bring my food. The price is too high and the food tastes terrible. They don't follow through with their lunch buffets either. This is a terrible place to go to.

Ordered biryani, chicken chitnad, malai kofta and nan. For takeout. We were asked to come after 20 min, thats usual we were there about 25 min later, were greeted good and said that the food was almost done and about a min or 2 . After waiting another 30 min we grew impatient and sought to investigate whats causing delay. There was no one out so we had to ho to the kitchen door and found every one was having there dinner and no one cared to pack our food, so we said we had to get out and asked to hurryup, later a different lady shows up and asks us to give them enough time to prepare food and said we came too early, once i gave her what time i came and the amount of time i waited, she continued saying that nan takes time and they want to prepare it fresh so customer is not disappointed. So finally we left with the food. Chapter 2. Once we are back opebed the food and tasted it , yukk. chicken ( half cooked brest pieces that was hard to chew) Chicken chitnad In reality its a chicken with bone, with good chennai curry. The dish was with half cooked breast pieces in tomato soup with sesame seeds. Biryani , the rice was ok but again filled with that undercooked chicken breast pieces. And lastly malai kofta is a malai aalu , agai not kofta but aalu. Terribly disappointed and will never return. 0 starts if i can And forgot ti say, the nan was 50% burnt .

After striking out with late reservations before the Elton John concert, we happened to pass by Aashiyana while making a wrong turn on the way to the parking garage. It looked very nice and clean (especially compared to other things we saw around Reading) and we love Indian food so we decided to give it a go. Obviously family run but not really in a bad way. Owner greeted all the tables personally. I had a feeling they felt burnt in the past from other patrons and reviews based on some of the comments and promotions around. Apparently they deliver, which, if we lived locally would be a huge perk. The food was very tasty. They do give complimentary papadums and unlimited rice (we probably could have shared one bowl of rice). We started with keema samosa which was very tasty. Some of the food came out slowly but I think we staggered our ordering so that may have been our fault. My husband had the badami tikka which was a much larger portion than we thought it would be. He ordered it spicy and felt it could have been hotter. I thought everything we had was nicely spiced. The rice had a nice flavor. I ordered the palak paneer, medium spice (paneer was homemade). Both of us agreed it was very tasty although I did wish there was more paneer. We also opted for garlic naan after seeing someone else order it. Overall it was a very solid experience and we would return if we were local. I think in general for concert goers it is a great option because it seemed that most people were elsewhere.

The food is decent, nothing to special but it is Reading PA so ya work with what ya have. It has a good spice and strong flavor but the service here is HORRENDOUS. My table is literally the only one here, and the waitress cares more about socializing with her friend at the counter then even checking if we need our water refilled. The wait time was terrible for being the only patrons too. If you are desperate for Indian stop in, but only if you don't care about service at all.

I will never advice pals to try here, they are consistently bad, they take time to serve.....

We used to go here regularly, but as another Yelper has noted, she does not take kindly to Groupons, even though she regularly signs up for them. She does charge you $3-$5 for a plate of rice that COMES with the meal if you use a Groupon. I only get one thing there--the lasni tikka. I love it. Sometimes the owner is pleasant, but most of the time she isn't. She refused to honor a Groupon when a friend of mine came in 30 minutes before closing because she'd come in late and was with a group. This was a group of regulars and she was asked not to use the Groupon because they were already doing enough by serving them so late. What? They came in DURING her posted hours but "too late" to be able to use the Groupon that was bought and paid for. Not cool.

Some things that were the same: The menu, except for a few new prices taped over the old ones. Not sure if they went up or down, but they seemed fair. Same list of about 10 vegetarian choices with only a few vegan. Oh, how I hoped for something different. Some things that were new: Wall paint, carpet, owners and staff who seem nice, and the end of the BYOB policy. Yes, a sign in the window told me "NO ALCOHOL, MANAGEMENT" as I walked up to the door with my nicely chilled French rose for my waiting friend. So I put it back in the car, pouting, oh well. Wine bar at my house later. My friend and I shared samosas, pakoras, and a dish of Alu Gobi and were quite full. It did seem better than before, but this is a very safe dish of cauliflower and potatoes in a curry sauce.

A few friends and I decided to give this place a shot because we found a groupon for 50% off. With four people, our bill was only $80, which came to $40 after the half off. The food was full of flavor although slightly hard to distinguish some dishes from others regardless of different spices. We asked for medium which still gave enough spice to produce some sweat on some of our party. Overall, love the food. The atmosphere is slightly odd colors and lighting which makes me give it a 4/5, and the area where the restaurant is located isn't the best spot, but I will definitely return for another round another day.

Wow! Came here a second time. We were here the other day and had the indian food. We came back because They also serve arabic food. I ordered a combo platter with chicken tawook and kofta kabob. We ordered a side of falafel and kinafa for desert. Everything was good. We will probably come back a third time before we leave town.

When we got there for dinner tonight we were seated at a booth. When I looked down I saw a short black hair on the table, strike 1. The service was ok, slow, we had to ask for more water (when we finally caught their eye) and overall they all seemed a bit clueless, strike 2. The samosa was delicious! The mulli gatawny soup was subpar. Worst of all were the two entrees. They were both good but at the end each of my dinner companions found a long black hair......strike 3 big time. When the owner with the strange sunglasses was finally flagged down and told about the hair she just said really? And then took a whole with our bill. I expected it was because she was figuring out a discount due to sanitation but...no. The bill was full priced and she said sorry its never happened before, strike 4! I've worked as a server in the past and was shocked that she charged us full price, that's just not appropriate. Overall bad experience and won't be back.

Two strikes and Aashiyana is out. My husband and I went here for dinner a little over a year ago. We ordered off of the menu (if memory serves me, vegetable korma and vegetable jalfreezi). To say that the meal was mediocre would be giving too much credit. We remembered our dishes being bland and nothing like the Indian food we enjoyed in Philly (where we lived at the time). Now we have lived in Reading for over a year, and hungry for Indian cuisine, I decided to give Aashiyana another go round. This time I went in for the Saturday lunch buffet. I was the first customer in the door at 11:30am. When I got up to the buffet, I was disappointed to see that there were only six dishes, and three of them were chicken (I'm not a vegetarian, but Indian food makes me wish I were). I heaped my plate with some basmati rice, vegetables in a tomato-based sauce that I supposed was masala, some peas with potatoes, a spoonful of what looked to be dal (though it was so thin and runny, if not for the absence of soup bowls, I would have assumed it was mulligatawny soup), and a few pieces of chicken in a tomato cream sauce. When I took the first few bites, I can only imagine the grimace that came over my face. The food was barely palatable. The peas were brown and mushy like they were either from a can or were frozen and really overcooked. Moreover, they had a spoiled taste. The vegetables in tomato sauce were barely recognizable as an indian dish due to the complete lack of spices (you don't need to make a dish hot in order for there to be flavor; this had neither heat nor flavor). The dal was tasteless, and the chicken pieces were so tough as to be inedible (and like the peas, had a vaguely rancid flavor). Only the basmati rice and naan (served hot to your table) were decent, but who wants to eat just bread and rice? I left after about ten minutes, thoroughly unsatisfied. I thought of asking for my money back, but the hostess (owner?) seemed not in the mood (and although I didn't eat nearly $13 worth of food, I did force some of it down out of hunger). At least I won't make the mistake of coming here a third time.

Give this one a miss. My family and I always enjoyed going to Aashiyana under the previous owners. At that point, I would have given it four stars. Kishwar was personable and attentive, and the menu featured a stable of classic dishes, all of which were very solid and, in some cases, exceptional. We were excited to revisit Aashiyana and see how it was under new ownership. As a previous reviewer stated, the BYOB policy has been rescinded. But the server was extremely friendly and knowledgeable about the menu, and service was fast. The quality of the food, however, was absolutely awful, and this is something that I don't write lightly. The chicken tikka masala tasted like it was flavored with instant bullion, and there was not a hint of curry flavor (or the rich, creamy, red color of a good tikka masala). The lamb rogan josh was somewhat better, but only slightly, as the cuts of lamb were grisly and greasy. The naan bread was over-dry. While the crispiness was there, it lacked the thick, chewy texture I associate with good naan. All of this, I would have chalked up to the transition period that accompanies a change of ownership. Restaurant kitchens have a lot going on. It takes a while to get them dialed in. But what was absolutely unforgivable was the palak paneer, or rather, the food poisoning that we got after eating it. The flavor itself was poor--the cheese tasted sour and off. So we stopped eating it after a sample. But nevertheless, the three of us paid for the meal with a very unpleasant bout of classic food poisoning symptoms. I've been a loyal customer for years, but I'd be loathe to go back. Sub-par food?--meh, that's part of the learning curve. Food poisoning?--forget it. Last note: on a Friday night, we were one of of only two parties there. My guess is that business has been slow enough and revenues low enough that food spoilage becomes a going concern. For a place now owned by two doctors, one would hope for more.

Based on our experience yesterday I would prefer to no give any stars but in their defense we did eat here about a year ago and the food was okay - the owner was very friendly - the major difference is we had dinner there last year and ordered off the menu. Yesterday we stopped at Aashiyana for lunch. We did not realize they only serve a buffet at lunch running from 11 - 2:30 pm. When we arrived at 2pm the owner sat us and sent a server to us. At this point we still did not know we had to eat from the buffet and no menus would be offered. The most unfriendly server with the nastiest attitude and dirty clothes came to our table. I said hello, good afternoon and she did not reply. Instead she shot me a dirty look. Nice to see you too! She gave us waters and said you can go get your food and then abruptly walked away. I did not have time to ask her if we could just order from menus so had to chase her down and ask. Just the buffet she told us. We took a look and it was the most vile food I have ever seen. I am a huge fan of Indian Cuisine - we use to visit Sawaii frequently and we like Spice Kitchen in Trooper. What we saw yesterday was horrendous. Two of the six chafing dishes were empty - we had no idea what the price was for the lunch we were about to eat but if two out of six chafers are empty they are charging much! The chafers that had food in them had what looked like old food - starting to form a top crust. There was a plate of chopped iceberg lettuce that was literally brown. The four tiny pieces that were left of Tandoori Chicken were completely dried out. There was some lentil mixture but again we could see a thin film that had formed on top of the lentils. I was not about to gamble with salmonella and botulism. I walked up to Miss Personality to tell her we would not be eating there and said goodbye. Once again she gave us a nasty look and did not respond. The owner was not in the room when we left. Hint to the owner - replace your unpleasant staff before you loose more customers. Refill, replenish your buffet until 2:30 or close your doors before unsuspecting customers come in looking for a yummy Indian lunch that you cannot deliver.

Eating here was wonderful. The food was delicious. The owners were very polite and courteous. The atmosphere was authentic. Prices are extremely reasonable as well. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone to anyone who enjoys fine Indian cuisine!

The service was a little odd (new server, i.e. new to being a server period) and the language barrier was a challenge when trying to make special requests with the chef (because she had a new server and is very hands-on, we got to meet her). They were also out of a surprising amount of items (3 of 4 that were originally ordered). The food, however, was delightful. We highly recommend the Chicken Vindaloo. The naan, tea and rice were spot-on!
