I'm updating this review because of recent changes! I used to LOVE this place. Not anymore! We won't be back. For anyone who has been a frequent visitor of this place like I have been, things have changed A LOT....and this is fact... They are giving you less portions , raised prices and you can no longer get a super salad with your meal AND the coupons can no longer be used on the weekend. They are also not on "Open Table" anymore. They also took the prime rib and lobster bisque off the menu! You should've stopped messing with a good thing! You know what BUH-BYE! Unless things change, we won't be back!! We'll be spending our money elsewhere!

Great food, great service, great music, great atmosphere. My new favorite restaurant.

Mediocre. Was not blown away. 3 for the ambiance. Went with a group of coworkers. Had an excellent time. They serve hummus and pita bread. I ordered the tomato bisque soup and chicken fried steak with wild rice. It's normally served with red potatoes. The soup was delicious. The steak was dry and breading was all bread crumbs. I expected more of a battered coating. Tasted bland an unsatisfying for chicken fried steak. For dessert i had there homemade cheesecake. That saved the day. The atmosphere was nice. Smokey when we walked in. Ever nook had its own theme. I absolutely loved the place but the food was just average, in fact, I'd say bland.

Food - The food was nothing to write home about. I had the tomato bisque soup, which was touted as "heart healthy." Honestly it tasted like canned soup and extremely salty. I liked the hummus and vegetable dip, which came with my entrée. My entrée was the maple glazed salmon and I ordered two sides, mac n cheese and oven roasted carrots. The salmon was moist but I thought the maple glaze was too sweet for the salmon. The mac & cheese was mediocre and honestly reminds me of the mac & cheese at KFC. The carrots were not memorable. For the most part, I simply wasn't impressed and the drive out here wasn't worth it. Atmosphere - Definitely a place for locals. The menu reads that the restaurant is a fine dining place for the working man. Most of the people here were dressed in jeans and a sweatshirt. Some of the entrées were priced over $20 but they had a good amount of wallet friendly entrees priced between $10-$15. Service - Not sure if it was because I'm brown or because I wasn't a local, but the service was terrible. No refills, no taking away plates, like I didn't exist. Dinner service wasn't even busy. I mentioned something to the waitress about not feeling welcomed and she did the best she could to make our experience better. I appreciated her efforts.

Terrible ending to a fun night! Food was good, not excellent, but worth going back for, if the hotness was not such a hot mess. Our bill was incorrect and rather then apologize, she turned it on us and started yelling at us and followed us to the parking lot trying to justify the mistake! We were not the only ones to suffer her wrath...she had just got finished yelling at someone else at an outdoor table so the whole world could hear! I am thinking anger or alcohol issues. Place is fine as long as you don't disagree or complain. Google it too...we are not alone!!!

Delicious as always. Got the garden salad with scallops this time. It was the most delicious garden salad I've ever had (possibly too extreme of a statement, but really, it was a satisfying salad). Not some wimpy garden salad. Delicious sliced red bell pepper, chickpeas, carrots, great greens, etc. I saved some of the hummus from the pita bread/hummus platter and added some of that, too. The apple cider vinegarette was good. Another dish purchased by the table was the eggplant parm. Yum!

I would give the food 3 stars as it was not that bad, however the service was upsetting. The waitress was horrible, slow, messed up our checks and it took over an hour to pay, took 45 minutes to even get a box, when we asked for a manager, the owner came over. She smelled like booze, yelled at us that we should just split the bill, we witnessed her screaming at another customer, she was so rude and even followed us out to the parking lot yelling at us. It was horrific

We sat in the bar area and it has a cool atmosphere. One of us ordered the wings which were great, but I ordered the nachos which were awful! The bloody mary was OK, but it isn't a place I would drive out of my way to go to.

Two stars only because of the history of the place. Hopefully it's was just a bad Saturday afternoon in the dining room because the food gets no stars. Made the mistake of ordering "specialties" without checking yelp. The Smoked Fish plate was 66% nasty; shrimp appeared to baby shrimp that had been canned, the salmon filet was so dry from over-smoke that it couldn't be broken with a fork. Told the waitress when she finally came to our table and she said "you should have told me"...well, ya can't tell someone that doesn't come by. My wife tried the seafood salad wrap - gross, seemed like canned tuna and shrimp, which a few tasty shells for added crunch. On a positive, they didn't overlook my daughters pasta.

Went on a recent Saturday. We ate outside so I cannot rate the inside, but for the brief time we were in there, it looked cute and eclectic. Aside from the traffic noise, it was nice to eat outside. Got a sangria (or two) which was a little on the weak side, but came with a cute flamingo straw. My daughter asked for pink lemonade, which they did not have, but the nice waiter accommodated her by putting a little bit of maraschino cherry juice into regular lemonade, and included two cherries as well. The BLT soup was delicious, as was my seafood wrap. My daughter enjoyed her cheeseburger and my husband enjoyed his Cobb salad with salmon, and really enjoyed his Summit Hill beer. I do see people got pita and hummus with their meals, we did not :(.

I decided to go here because i had seen that their wings were on the list of "top 10 best wings in upper bucks county" but i have to say, i was very disappointed in them! I like to think of myself as a foodie. I love eating just as much as cooking. But wings are defintely something that I've had alot of from many different places. First off, they served them to me with the sauce on the side. Thats a no no unless specified. Then, the wings themselves tasted weird? They either put some sort of rub on them that didnt belong, just havent changed the oil in awhile, or fried them in the same fryer that they use for fish and such. Couldnt quite figure it out, either way, the taste was a no go. And lastly, the sauce was all spice and no flavor! As if they just used some sort of bottled hot sauce and thats it! Overall, the wings were tolerable and not enjoyable.

Went 2 days in a row. First time was super busy rush dinner time. We got a really bad table in the corner of the dining room. I was literally looking at a wall across the table. Kinda couldn't believe they even set a table up like that. I ordered the tomato soup. It was ok. Then the main course came out and my mood changed. I got the Black and Blu Burger. It was by far the best gourmet burger I've had in a long long time. I got fries to, they were great. My wife got the lobster mac n' cheese. She loved it. We went back to next day because the burger was so good, I wanted to get it again (very rare for me to go back the very next day). It did not disappoint. My wife got the personal pizza appetizer and enjoyed it. Our seating was much better. Our luck was just bad our first night in getting the worst table in the joint. So I am not gonna hold it against them. Food is great, atmosphere is good.

First time dining was tonight, went on a date with another couple. First off, the old decor and live piano player created such a great atmosphere! Unfortunately, that was the only good part. We waited collectively about 45mins to 1 hour for our drinks. We waited even LONGER for our food. We never were given ANY drink specials or any specials on the menu. When it came time to receive our checks no one was told of the 'One check per table' policy, we weren't ever made aware that each separate bill will come with a 20% gratuity already added (PARTY OF 4)!!!! Nothing was explain by our waitress and we had to go ask other members of the staff to get Liz because she was too busy chatting. I'm glad we didn't have anything to do after dinner because we would have been so late. The whole experience took 3.5 hours, I am so disappointed with the service. On a busy Saturday they should have their BEST staff. Food was decent but service was subpar. Will not come back

Yesterday we hand our first and last visit to this establishment. Let me start off with the good they were clean and amazingly busy. When I say busy I mean totally packed and that is usually a good sign. Sadly our dining experiences did not match those seated around us. While I understand they were slammed I do expect waitress to stop by during the meal it inquire how the food is (and not was) and this gives them the opportunity to correct any errors. In our case while we did eat the food it was really substantial worse then fast food. We ordered the fish and chips and I can say for nine bucks we expected more than two tiny pieces of fish that were how shall I say it very cooked to the point where my wife referred to them as fish croutons. Yes, I could not help by compare the fish to long John Silvers where I had a decent portions and the fish was moist and flakey. We also had chicken wings while the portions were OK once again way over cooked and dry. These counted as possibly the worse wings I've ever had. While we heard others around us comment on how much they enjoyed their food I only wish we could have said the same rather then our dinning experience...

Food was obviously not fresh. Tuna tartar was brown and disgusting. Caesar salad was a half of a romaine, hard to eat. Martini was barely half full. Only star was for the service.

Our server was friendly and fun. We enjoyed the fish tacos and shepherd's pie. The nachos cheese sauce was a little strange but it could have been because we altered the ingredients. All in all we love this tavern for its atmosphere and the beer.

Recently we had a family event at the Red Lion Inn. I was not impressed at all. The building being an old historic inn, was very drafty and cold. The server was not customer friendly almost like I was annoying her while she worked! My first menu selection was no longer available . So I opted for something else. Big mistake. It was tasteless. very bland. At the end of the meal, when the server came back , she asked if I wanted to take the item home. I did explain it was not good. Her comment was that she had it for lunch. Not even an opportunity to speak with the manager. Save your money and go somewhere else.

I honestly wish I could give zero stars. About a month ago I had my wedding at the arts and events center. The food was excellent, the staff was great, and the venue was affordable and stunning. But be warned, the owner of this restaurant is 110% awful. To be honest with you, at first, I was actually AFRAID to come on this website and write this review. That is how scary and stand offish she is. But I feel everyone has the right to know, and the wedding is over now, so here it goes. When I first went to look at this venue with my maid of honor, we both felt awkward and almost like she didn't really care about us. From then on every time we went to the place or asked any questions, she was very short with us and almost made it seem like we were wasting her time or annoying her with our mere presents. We even went over the night before the wedding (after our rehearsal) and had to wait for about an hour to talk with her as she mad phone calls. (Bear in mind, she knew we were coming) The entire time we had no idea if she even knew if we were waiting for her. And to be honest, it seems like most of the staff is even scared of her, judging from the looks on their faces when we asked if they could get her attention for us. The only time I felt like I could ask her questions without annoying her was right after we paid her in full. After that, it was looking pretty good for us. Fast forward to the wedding day. Everything was beautiful. We had the ceremony upstairs on the stage. We got ready in the dressing rooms. It was great. Until my husband and I stepped out to take some photographs around town. Now, I wasn't there for this, but I had our entire wedding party, and both sets of parents tell me that, as we were taking photographs, the owner decided to come upstairs and start SCREAMING at the entire wedding party AND our parents. We had brought alcohol into the dressing rooms (a couple bottles of wine for the girls, and a small cooler of beer for the guys) just as a little 'refreshment' before the ceremony. No one was drunk. No one was being obnoxious. Everyone was just having a good time enjoying the day. But this lady just went off on everyone because we had alcohol and food before the ceremony. I mean seriously yelling. To top it all off, she overbooked the theatre and 'needed us out, since we started 30 minutes early, we had to leave 30 minutes early'. Now, if she had just asked us to remove the alcohol, or told us that we couldn't drink up there in the first place, I would not be writing this review. Also, if I felt at all comfortable to ask her questions in the first place, this predicament wouldn't have happened. But I am so infuriated that she screamed at all of my close friends and family, that I don't care. I will never ever recommend any one to ever support this establishment ever. And I hope that one day karma will work its magic. That is all.

This place is the TOPS!!! I only wish I had found it sooner in my business trip. If I do return to this area for work, I will definitely be stopping in here again. Their staff is excellent and the food is superb! The beer was great too! And the best part was that the whole night cost me under $25.

I honestly have never had worse service before in my life. My husband and I came to meet our two friends here and we waited 3.5 hours to receive a few drinks and a normal meal. We were never asked if we wanted refills or desert and had to ask several of the other waiters to have our waitress, Liz, come to our table. The food was amazing and the atmosphere was delightful, however, the service really dampened the entire night. I will not be coming back, unfortunately. On top of after waiting for FOREVER for everything, we requested to have our bills split and a 20% gratuity was placed on our bill for two people!!. We were not aware of this and wish we would have been informed before; she did not deserve nearly that amount. I am a very patient person and will usually have no problem with a slow waitress but this was outrageous. I have never even written a yelp review before but I was so shocked as to how we were treated that I felt it was necessary.

My husband and I really loved this place. The design and décor is charming and relaxing. We sat in very comfortable arm chairs, which made the post dinner and dessert kickback very relaxing. The service was friendly and we did not have to wait long for our food. We went there on a Friday night and it was packed (even at 8pm), so I would definitely make reservations. My husband ordered the house Amber Ale and I got the Mango Tango Martini (tasted like fruit punch) and we both thought they were delicious. We ordered the Spring rolls for our appetizer and they were fresh and tasty. I ordered the Beef Tenderloin and my husband ordered the Tournedos and we both thought they were excellent with healthy sized portions. Our dessert the Apple Torte was to die for, it was a perfect mix of warm pastry with caramel ice cream. We were very satisfied with the service and our meals and will be returning often.

Really disappointed. Started the meal with the crab cakes; they were good. Ordered the drink special for the week; could not even drink it. It tasted like cold medicine! My husband ordered a turkey Ruben; his bread was overdone, and he had to saw to cut through it. I ordered the tomato bisque soup with fries. My soup was meh, but my fries were ok. Our service was subpar. Would not go to this establishment again.

Very decent place. Tasty petite seafood combo and kind waitress. Don't have choices for coffee, only regular with no special brew.

My fiance and I love this place! We never had a bad meal here and the prices don't break one's budget. I had their apple cider chicken which was tasty and filling with their cream spinach and mash potatoes, and a cup of tomato bisque. Everything was very good, and it was a perfect temperature. My fiance got lemon dill salmon stuffed with crab. His side dishes were fries and cream spinach. The fries were crispy, and he too loved his food. Since we got entrees, we also had an appetizer of their warm pita bread and with a home made smoke-house cheddar spread. Our desert was an apple tort with a flaky pastry and it was served with vanilla carmel ice cream. Also, our waitress was very friendly too and prompt. The atmosphere is always cozy even on a snowy, wintery day in February. :-)

I love this place! I come here from New Jersey at least twice a month. I love the atmosphere and the menu is very reasonable. The patio seating is awesome and there is always live music on the weekends. The weekly drink specials and menu additions are innovative and trendy. My favorite dishes are the blackened ribeye and broiled seafood combo.

"Meh", is a truly appropriate description of our dining experience last night. Service was very good, albeit a bit over the top in enthusiasm. Nice enough place, but the food was nothing special. One of my side dishes was macaroni and cheese. I would swear it came out of a box. So, nice surroundings, good service, uninspired food and a bit on the expensive side. Meh, right?

The restaurant it self has wonderful food. The wait staff is always very nice. But the woman that owns the place does not care about her attitude, or her reputation as a business owner. My girlfriend had her wedding next door at the theater. A gorgeous venue. But from the beginning this woman was so miserable and rude that it was putting a dark cloud over a day that should have been so happy for the bride. Even the day before the wedding the bride was just disappointed in how little this woman cared. Oh, she also overbooked us. Which made the transition from ceremony to reception a mess. Among many other petty bullshit that was at first overlooked but then suddenly made an issue because she effed up. Overall just a sad human being. And I don't care how great everything else was, a poor attitude of someone who represents such a place, should have been the most outstanding of people that we came into contact with those two days. Because of that this is no business I would ever recommend or spend my hard earned money at again. Luckily other reviewers have not had the pleasure of meeting this woman, and for the good staff of this restaurant's sake, I hope they never do.

Really nice place. We met some friends before attending a show at the Parlor Concert space next door. Do check out the music calendar. Its an intimate experience that should get wider recognition. Friendly and attentive staff. Good drinks that led to an unplanned stay at a nearby hotel. Oops. The food was good! I had a really tasty Cuban sandwich and that's a glowing review because i used to live in Tampa where the Cuban is king. My partner had meatloaf and he's still talking about it. Our friends ate before the show and told us we had to go back. Jim Lauderdale at there before his show. He says he didn't like it. He LOVED it. So check it out. Ancient, charming location with a friendly crew and relaxed atmosphere. This place is hard to beat.

I was here with my friend one weekend and I was impressed. The place is beautiful and cozy inside. It was Sunday afternoon and empty! They have a great beer selection and plenty of food options. I got the Mac and cheese (southwest) and finished it off!! My friend got the burger and loved it as well. The service was great! Even after we were finished eating and paid, she kept refilling our water glasses! I love that I have vegetarian options that were more that a veggie wrap! I will return!

Great restaurant. Service was good. Food was excellent. The menu has great choices. Couldn't decide. We chose to sit outside rather than inside. The porch/patio is right next to the street. It gets a little loud when trucks drive by, but other than that the traffic doesn't bother me.

Driven by this place for almost two decades always saying I want to go here. Finally went on a whim and wow!! First the only negative was our fault we got the only table available because all the rest were booked. So I sat by the cold door. BUT it was worth it. The waitress was friendly although I asked about happy hour which is 4-6 and it was 540 and she told me it was over. Our drinks came quickly my fiancé got a speciality beer and I had a martini made perfectly. We both ordered burgers and I get burgers wherever I go. It was fantastic. Well done which I wanted, but tender and juicy jam packed of favor. I forget which one I got. The Mac n cheese was gooey and cheesy. We opted out of dessert to get a movie. The place in general is gorgeous, unique. Each table is different with different chairs. Awesome decor, awesome place and its historical. We just made our reservations for valentines day-cant wait!

I will never go back!! The food was terrible! Shrimp came out raw, hair in the French fries, and the chicken seemed like it was from a bag, already cooked. The caesar salad was very small and came with 5 medium shrimps on it for $14. The service was slow but our waitress was very nice. The atmosphere is nice and rustic. But the only way would go back is if they got a new chef kitchen.

McCoole is a old-time pub with ties to the revolutionary war era. The pub is located in downtown Q-Town on Main St. We arrived Sat. around 6pm. The restaurant was busy but not packed We were able to get outdoor seating. They have a nice outdoor patio under the front of the building. *** Food ****Service ****Atmosphere **Value

Prime rib undergone. Bison burger overdone. Chicken in pecan chicken salad too dry to eat. Water spilled in one persons lap. Busy Sat. nite they should have had their best staff. At least we did not encounter the fabled evil hostess. Would not return.

For shame that eleven people have prior reviewed this place and not mentioned it played an important part in Fries Rebellion, one of three principal early American (18th century) tax protests, the others being Shay's Rebellion and the Whiskey Rebellion. John Fries and others met at this tavern to hammer out and organize their resistance to what they perceived as unfair government taxation. The building is absolutely beautiful and dates to the 1750s. I would love to own a house like this, with amazing exposed stone interior. It screams of character. The entire interior is decorated very nicely, with copper pots and dark, hard woods and furniture that make the diner relate to the period of the building. The bar is colonial styled, which is a nice period touch as well. The food is very good and the price points are reasonable. It was a nice day so I sat out on the front porch and had a steak sandwich with caramelized onion, and mozz, and an au jus for dipping. It was just what the doctor ordered that day. I will definitely be back for not only the food, but also for the beautiful architecture and Colonial class that the Red Lion offers.

First of all I wish I could give this place more then 5stars.The service is top shelf .And the reason I say this is are waitress Laura was top shelf I give her ten stars and for the food I will give 20 stars only had wings and a burger but it is the best burger I ever had cook to perfection. When u eat here u no that the person in the kitchen is a chef not a cook. This Hotel restaurant will not disappoint you.ENJOY

This place is damn near perfection. I grew up passing this place by, but boy am I glad we finally decided to stop in. The service was friendly & prompt. The drink menu was ample & the food menu had a good variety. The fresh complimentary hummus & pita chips were to die for. I had the lobster bisque, which was made well, certainly not from a can. As my main course I had the spicy seafood pot. It was filling, delicious, and packed with fresh seafood. Everything was decently priced and there was even a piano player to set the mood! The biggest downfall is actually part of the allure of the restaurant. It is a historic building built before America was even a country (mid 1600's) with that being said, the building is no bigger than a matchbox. It certainly wasn't built to comfortably seat a modern Saturday night dinner crowd. You may as well be sitting on a strangers lap. & forget holding a conversation or hearing yourself think, the noise level is through the roof. Overall though, I was very pleased & I'll definitely be back.

We had the gumbo rice dish and roughy and rice dish. Food was very good. Nice bar, decent beer. Fun music. This is a colorful and welcoming place in Quakerstown. Nice atmosphere. Really appreciated the live music. Great prices. This place becomes crowded on weekends, so recommend reservations.

I brought 3 coworkers here for dinner as they traveled in from Indiana. We all thought the food and the atmosphere were excellent! Nice place to eat and the prices are very reasonable. I think the most expensive entree was $21. I had the prime rib (end cut) and it was perfect. Some of the others had crab cakes and they were very happy.

One of the best places I've found to eat in Quakertown. This place delivers a unique and creative menu among a sea of "meh" chain restaurants. I've been here with my mom a couple of times and everything I've tried has been great. They always have a great salmon dish on the weekly rotating specials menu and the fish is really well cooked. I love that you can get mac and cheese as a side, and theirs is creamy and delicious. Their burgers are huge, juicy, and once again delicious. I once ordered a ciopinno type dish that came out as the wrong version (they had changed it from the day before) and they offered me a free dessert for the mix-up. The pita and hummus they give you instead of bread when you sit down is also a nice touch. I've never had dessert here but the options always look intriguing. I usually enjoy sitting on the porch when it's nice out, although the scenery is not the best and somehow ridiculously loud motorcycles seem to drive by every 5 minutes.

Had lunch at McCoole's today and looking forward to going back! Enjoyed the roasted corn and crabmeat au gratin appetizer as well as the bruschetta. The corn and crabmeat au gratin came with perfectly prepared crostini that were crisp but didn't completely fall apart on the first bite. The spread could have been a little thicker but was still tasty. Had the McCoole's steak melt sandwich, marinated beef tenderloin with demi-glace and cheddar over ciabatta. No fat or gristle, just enough demi-glace. Delicious. We tried the blueberry ravioli for dessert. Sounded like the kind of thing that could be really good or really bad. They ended up being nice, not sickeningly sweet, great wrapping/pastry. Came with vanilla ice cream. The service was friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. Decor is nice, not over the top, cozy but not like a living room. Prices are good. Parking lot is a little tricky to get in and out of since McCoole's sits on the corner at a traffic light but it's not the end of the world. Would think about bumping up to five stars but will have to wait to see the the experience is as good the next time.

Nice restaurant with good character. We went out expecting to pay a moderate amount of money for a nice dinner & we were not disappointed. Overall above average experience. My husband had the $2.50 draught special which he said was "worth-it, good." We had a tasty & large pita hummus appetizer. (They gave us lots of pita for $4.) My husband had the lobster bisque which he said was delicious & it actually had large chunks of lobster in it. I had a garden salad, which was a salad. (What can you do with a garden salad really?) Our dinners were both off the dinner menu which was the high end ($20+) but there were plenty of sandwiches that were ($8-12) which looked interesting. Neither of us were disappointed with our dinner. We went on a Saturday night which had a live piano player in the restaurant, she added to the ambiance. There was also a band outside. Many options to hang out. The attire is casual. The service was good, not overbearing and no problems.

Used to be decent but the quality has gone downhill. It was the only place in Quakertown for a good meal but no longer. After several visits in the past year I am done with it. There is no longer anywhere to get a good meal in town. Please!! Someone open a quality restaurant in Quakertown!

My boyfriend and I went over for our Anniversary and we loved it! I had crab cakes and he had salmon. The dishes were well cooked and delicious! The service was great as well the atmosphere. I thought the prices were reasonable for the quality of food and the place is a great alternative in Quakertown. We plan to come back soon!

We made our reservation via Open Table and arrived at the appointed time. We were shown to a table right next to the piano and since the place was virtually empty, we asked to be moved to a table across the very small room, by the window. The hostess informed us that that table was already reserved for someone else, which didn't make sense to us since we were the only ones in the room at the time, but she was not budging. She grudgingly went to ask her supervisor and came back and informed us that it was impossible to move us. My husband asked to see the supervisor and she left; we assumed she would send the supervisor over. Instead, a server showed up. My husband again asked to see the supervisor and finally, she came over. She indicated it was no problem to move us and apologized for the misunderstanding. Suddenly it seemed as if they couldn't do enough for us, and the offending hostess didn't make her appearance near us again. Onto the food...we enjoyed the pita and hummus that was provided with our drinks. My husband ordered the veggie wrap and steak fries with a side salad and enjoyed it quite a bit. I had the crab cakes with mashed potatoes and creamed spinach, plus a cup of the bisque, All of the food was quite enjoyable, and our server was pleasant and attentive. I agree with another reviewer who stated that there should be more vegetarian options, but overall it was a decent dining experience.

I previously have had good dining experiences here, until this weekend. I made a reservation for 8 PM on open table for myself, my wife, and another couple. We arrived and were told that it would be about 10 minutes, despite our reservation. We were seated at 8:50 PM. We waited 45-50 minutes for a table WITH a reservation. Fast forward to dinner. Our server was rather abrasive and unfriendly. We took a few minutes to look at the menu and ordered appetizers, since at this point we were hungry enough to chew an arm off. The appetizers were of acceptable quality. On to the main course: My wife had prime rib that was very fatty, she left more than half of the cut on her plate. I had a tenderloin which tasted terrible, like stale burned charcoal. The other two we were with had fish and chips which were acceptable, and a tuna steak which was cooked well done despite being ordered medium rare. The food could have been fixed, but our waitress was inattentive and did not ask us how our meals were. My friend had to walk up to the hostess stand and tell the manager about the problems with our food. By the time we reached this point, we had all lost our appetite. When the waitress confronted us, she said, "...Oh, I thought everything was fine..." She didn't even ask!!! I am extremely disappointed with this experience and I won't be returning to McCoole's.

Dined at this establishment on many occasions including several of my birthdays. Food here is awesome drinks are very good but pricey. I have had the Creole Pasta Pot that is.... Jumbo shrimp, sea scallops and crab meat stewed in a zesty blend of tomatoes, andouille sausage and Creole spices. Served over linguine. It is A tasty and filling meal. Just be sure to make reservations early for weekend visits.

In town on business and went to the Red Lion inn for dinner. Ordered the spicy beef queso dip which was super disappointing. It was basically brown ground beef with cheese sprinkled on top. No spice or flavor for that matter. Ordered the burgers for dinner and they were pretty good - big too. Key Lime pie was good.

Good food, $13.00 drinks, and don't ask for separate checks. Even though we are staying in the area and were looking for a good local place to go weekly, the manager acted as if we were a pain in her butt. None of us will be returning.

I've been here a few times for dinner and lunch. All I can say is it's not as good as it use to be. The protions have gone down in size and the quality has taken a hit as well. Come on, you pay 8 bucks for a burger and all it comes with is a napkin? Think twice about talking to the owner. I made the mistake of trying to inform her that I was less than satisfied with my dining experience. There was no offer of an apology or any attempt to correct the situation, Instead, I got a generous serving of nastyness. I guess I shouldn't complain, after all, it was the only thing that wasn't ala carte. Needless to say, I will not be back.

Very excellent establishment and I've never had a meal I didn't like. The Pros: 1) Food quality is very high, everything is fresh and has that home cooked feel. 2) Pricing is very reasonable for what they're offering. 3) Variety of food is high with a constantly changing menu and chef specials to fit any budget. 4) Service is always friendly and fairly quick. The Cons: 1) Drinks are expensive 2) You can freeze in there in the winter depending on where you're seated. Overall, I recommend McCoole's to everyone looking for high quality dining in Quakertown.

I had never eaten here before and I had friends coming in from out of town. Someone recommended McCoole's at the Red Lion Inn. We had a group of 6. Some had fish and some had different cuts of beef. Everyone raved about how good it was. Highly recommended.

The small beer selection has a lot of character. If you're looking for a seldom-draughted brew, you may, per chance, find it here. The bartenders are pleasant, and the atmosphere is decent. Food is a little overpriced, but the novelty of the experience may trump that aspect.

Always a great choice. They usually handles crowds well...cant blame em for packin them in! The staff are great, personable, professional, friendly. The food is delish! My only issue here is with the bar. Dont get me wrong, the drinks are always good, but there is zero consistency. And I have discussed this with several servers. I typically will order a top shelf Margarita, I do not believe that even once was it the same price, made the same way, or even, in the same glass!!!! That I find very frustrating. Everything else is fantastic. Love the entertainment, love the food. The McCooles Scampi is terrific! Highly recommend, has nice size chunks of crab meat in the sauce, and the shrimp are ALWAYS consistently delicous! The wait can be tough, I do not go without a reservation.

Delightful evening including a delicious crab cake burger and a creepy picture of a horse's head. The decor was the greatest part of my experience...we sat in comfy cheetah print chairs...we got to browse old life magazines. Very fun and very affordable.

Below average---food is relatively pricey for what you get. Portions are just right---not too small and not overwhelmingly big. FYI: check can't be split even though they have computers!

First off, as one reviewer said the building dates back to the 1700's which I love that about it. Personally I have never had anything bad here, we love their soups, the spring rolls and I always get the maple glazed salmon. Their sides are fabulous too, like the creamed spiniich and mac and cheese. Also great for lunch meals too.

One of my favorite spots in Quakertown, sit down in plush chairs near a roaring fire on a cold winter night. The establishment is all about warmth and comfort. The food is affordable and excellent, food you would expect to pay twice as much. For a first timer I recommend just going there and getting four appetizers, dessert and drinks. Their appetizer menu shines the most. Recommend: Shrimp and Prosciutto Tenderloin Canape Maple Glazed Salmon Tournedos Au Cognac Crispy Roast Maple Leaf Duckling The desserts are all top notch however The Bavarian Apple Torte to me surpasses all of them. Ask for whatever desserts their pastry chef feels like making, there are always desserts that are not on the menu, more often than not thats the one you should be picking!

Have eaten here several times in the past couple of years and always enjoyed the food (the hostess is another story) but our last visit changed that. I could comment about the other aspects of the restaurant but here's what's important. Now you have to know that I love anything picatta, especially veal or chicken. Well on our last visit I had a veal picatta dish that was one mild shake of a salt shaker from inedible. Now I'm a pretty heavy salter compared to most people. In fact I very often salt my food before I have even tasted it. However since picatta dishes are fairly acidic and salty I decided to taste it first. Thank God I didn't add salt because the sauce on this dish was SO salty that the meat type was almost indiscernible. It could have been any meat on the plate because all you could taste was salt. The plate was covered with an excessive amount of capers, about 30-40! I am not exaggerating. I wondered if the waitress didn't think the plate looked odd having so many capers on it. It also made me wonder if the cook in the back had accidentally spilled the whole bottle of capers and their juice onto the plate and just said "screw it" and sent it out - capers are extremely salty btw for those not in the know. The dish was totally unenjoyable. There's no excuse for a plate of food like that leaving the kitchen. I mentioned the hostess. They have this older lady that often works the front and from the way she looks, acts and talks you feel like you should be handing her a piece of paper with the suicide hotline number on it. Every time we've went here she was doing hostess duty and she seems like she hates life, is miserable and is annoyed to have to be helping you. What a lovely way to start a meal. We always just brushed off the miserable hostess because the food was always pretty good here but this last dinner had one of the worst plates of food I've ever had served to me at a restaurant. I may or may not give this place a second chance after such a horrible meal.

Happened to be driving by here on the way back from Qmart and decided on the spur of the moment to give this place a try. Wow, so glad I did. First off they a have a tremendous selection on the menu at reasonable prices. The quality of the food ordered was very high along with the desserts. Had one of the best meals and experiences ever here. Waitress was very helpful and service was fast. Recommended as a great place to eat in a historic building setting.

I have eaten at McCoole's twice. Great food. No complaints on the food - fries are awesome. The food was delivered very quickly one time and pretty slow one time. Courteous staff. Great atmosphere and really great prices. The drinks are a little weak. Overall a great value for a date night and some time away from the kids!

I really like this place. They have great food - high quality - good prices. Love to go here for a ladies night out - great bar. Also very nice in the summer to sit outside and eat. Place is haunted which ads to the ambiance!

There is not much I can add to the other reviews. The place has history and charm. Several notes: the special is on printout which ruined the atmosphere a bit. Waitress had several too many tables and wasn't attentive but the diverse beer selection made up for it.

Our frequent dinner foursome visited McCoole's on Thursday evening 4/9/2009 for dinner and I'm a fan! Our friends have been extolling the virtues of McCoole's for sometime, but we never quite managed to get up to Quakertown - but it was so worth the ride! Crab cakes were excellent, my husband's Creole Pasta Pot wasn't New Orleans, but he was very happy with it. Scallops auGratin was wonderful also. Although we all agreed the food was excellent, I wouldn't recommend the drinks. My "martini" as well as my friend's, was served over ice in a snifter style glass, hubby's scotch and water was a bit light on alcohol. I wouldn't go there for the drinks that's for sure! But then I guess I should withhold judgment on drinks until our next visit. Prices were very affordable - portions were very good. McCoole's is a charming spot and has a terrific atmosphere - our waitress was excellent - attentive and helpful. Parking is a bit difficult, but not impossible. We will definitely return soon.

We ate outside on the big patio on a perfectly gorgeous August night. I had a house salad that was very, very visually impressive, and hubby had a tomato salad that was also beautifully presented .. and both were VERY fresh, substantial and delicious. I would have like more dressing options, but the ranch was fine. We also would have liked warm bread or bread sticks with our salad, or to have been offered bread, but we were not and didn't ask. It was crowed, but our food arrived quickly. I loved how my broiled seafood combo was delivered in a very hot boat dish. The salmon was moist, the shrimp were a good size, the scallops were tender and full of flavor, but the crab cake needed larger chunks of crabmeat and more texture as it had a consistency close to a ball of mashed potatoes. The rice and string beans that came with it were very good, but although the string beans with red pepper slices flavor was WONDERFUL, they could have been cooked just a bit more to be less raw & more tender. Everything was served hot and, my husband enjoyed his wrap & chips... I just forget what was in it! Our waitress (Laura??) was a lot of fun and had a wonderful sense of humor! We look forward to going back and sitting outside again. That was a big plus for us, providing an 'on vacation' kind of of appeal.

Had dinner on a busy Saturday night ... The pita and hummus was nice but the fish and chips were only so so.... However we were treated to the lovely piano playing of Rita .... That makes up for the slow device and average fish ...

Was really disappointed. Our waitress was incredibly rude. She forgot my boyfriends drink and when we reminded her she actually has the nerve to roll her eyes. Also the entrees arrived 25 minutes after we ordered them and they were both cold. When we mentioned this to our waitress again she was extremely rude. Would never go back.

The historic charm of this establishment is fascinating. That said, the service needs some work. One of the waitresses greeted her fellow coworkers with "what's up b*tches?!" The servers spent a lot of time socializing about inappropriate personal matters loud enough for our section of the restaurant to hear. The tenderloin was ok. Cheese and meat plate was disappointing. Probably wouldn't go back.
