WOW! This is what you think of when you want a small Mom & Pop store and it is welcome in this land where fast food options dominate. Now you can get something fast and delicious! Superb sandwiches, locally roasted coffee, house cured corned beef, housemade turkey on bread he gets from Philly. Owner is super friendly and passionate about that he does and it shows in his products. When we first walked in, he was able to guess what kind of sandwich we would want - and he was right - a sandwich Savant ! He brought us samples of his house roasted turkey breast to try. When I learned he also made his own corned beef, I had to try some and he suggested the Dagwood, piled high with tender, succulent turkey and topped with fall apart, briny corned beef with coleslaw and Russian dressing. Highly recommend this sandwich. Can't wait to go back and try the other sandwiches, including his breakfast sandwiches! A new favorite which will cause me to find excuses to trek into Pottstown.

Yelp led me to Grumpy's and I couldn't have been happier to stop in. I needed to get lunch at about 2PM on a Saturday and I saw the rare gem of a 5 star Yelp reviewed restaurant. Grumpy himself welcomed me into his shop and began working on my turkey sandwich. He handed me a slice to try as he worked on assembling the rest, and it was the way turkey should be: flavorful, juicy, and warm. The bread (always key!) went well with the turkey and the cheese was delicious. The best really, was that Gene was my companion for lunch and we talked like we were old friends. I learned more about Pottstown, and how he started the restaurant. The simple decor fits into his vision of a neighborhood spot where everyone can gather, and become part of a community. I didn't walk in expecting a heart to heart with a Philly born chef, but I got it, and really enjoyed it. Go in. Have a sandwich (As the others say, it's the real deal). But really do talk with Gene if he's there. Talk about Pottstown, have a few jokes, and feel like an old friend.

Go on Friday for the corned beef. I am no longer Catholic, I just switched religions to 'corned beefite' Also, Gene keeps talking #$%^& about opening a shop in Collegeville. Badger him until he does it.

Grumpys has the best food and service. Everything is fresh and prepared to your liking. The owners are awesome and highly focused on your satisfaction. Best sandwiches in the Pottstown area. If you like Turkey, Roast Beef, Corned Beef or great homemade soups you must try.

Of all the seven dwarfs, most of us find Grumpy the most compelling. Why? I have no idea, but Happy had that perpetual idiotic laugh, Doc was too much like Spock, and Sneezy was spewing some kind of viral load on everyone. No, we seem to be drawn to Grumpy because he is initially skeptical of Snow White (since we've all been burned by hot crying chicks) but eventually becomes her biggest fan. Grumpy, you see, was a pragmatist...with a heart. All this has absolutely nothing to do with the wonderful sandwiches that await you at Grumpy's, save for the name and the fact that I was initially skeptical that this small mom & pop on High St. could deliver. I enjoyed the "Hot Gobbler", delicious, moist, mouth watering hand carved turkey breast on a round kaiser with sharp provolone, fried sweet peppers, and garlic mayo. One of the best sandwiches I've ever scarfed, and at $7.00 a real bargain.

This place is amazing! The sandwiches are so big, I had to take half home! Grumpy is a wonderful person who cares about his customers and the food he serves. You have to visit to enjoy the food and have experience of a community sandwich restaurant.

Glad I stopped here one day while on high street. The sandwiches are big and Grumpy really cares about his customers and the food he services. I have been back many times since and I'm always pleased when I leave. This is exactly why you should support local small businesses!

Went to Grumpy's because the reviews were good. The owner was very friendly to my child and myself. The food was delicious. I will definitely be going back.

Had a GREAT sandwich here today. Got the Hot Gobbler (6.60) (carved turkey, pepper jack cheese, chipotle mayo & roasted red peppers) and it came with slaw, & a pickle (see picture). I believe the owner was the one working in the kitchen, and it appeared to be his daughter behind the counter. Pros: - Great sandwich - you could tell the meat was fresh. - Local! - Owner seemed friendly Cons: - I hate to even say it, but his daughter seemed pretty uninterested. Had she been more outgoing, friendly, & helpful, even just saying something along the lines of, "if you need help with the menu, let me know", it probably would have bumped up my review to a 4/5. As it stands now, I would give it a 3.5 if I could.

We eat here regularly. The soups are amazing and the sandwiches are always mouthwatering delicious. I love this place!
(5)Brent B.
This place is great, didn't expect it to be this delicious. Staff was a friendly family. Don't let the outside or decor keep you from trying this gem. Also the coleslaw was off the charts.

Top notch place! The sandwiches are the REAL DEAL! I could eat here everyday. Best sandwiches I've had in the area, hands down.
(5)Raymond R.
When you want a frickin' good sandwich, there really isn't any better place. Seriously! The amount of meat put on my turkey sandwich was insane. Good insane, though. It was delicious turkey, warm and full of flavor. I made short work of that bad boy, let me tell you. We've eaten here a few times and we've never failed to have a great sandwich, interesting conversation, and a good down-home feel. I'm just drooling thinking about my next turkey sandwich now...
(5)Jeramy M.
Real food, served by real people. Probably the best roast beef sandwich that has ever entered my mouth hole.
(5)Mk S.
Find a good place and you want to share it with friends. Which is exactly what I did and surprise, surprise, surprise that's what they did! Healthy portions, great taste and reasonable prices. Are you really still reading this instead of starting your car and rushing over?
(4)Matt C.
The best cuts of meat on the planet. The soups out of this world. Butternut squash, Seafood bisque and split pea and ham are some of my favorites. You will not be disappointed. The owner of very friendly and always remembers his customers.
(5)L G.
I just ate sandwich perfection. First off, I love the decor of the restaurant. It has a lot of old Pottstown pictures and posters, complimented by a bright color scheme. Now on to the food....I tried the Hot Gobbler. The meat is moist and piled on, loved the pepper jack cheese, roasted peppers and chipotle mayo. And most importantly, the roll held up until the very last bite. A bad roll can sink a sandwich shop in my opinion, but don't worry because the kaiser rolls here are perfect. I'm going to have to become a regular so that I can work my way through the menu and try all the sandwiches. If you're in the area, it's worth a stop.
(5)Ed W.
I eat here a lot. They never disappoint. Sammiches are fresh and delicious and fast. Skip the franchise crap and get a quality lunch. If you can't find a spot right out front, park down the street or something. You'll need the exercise to work off the samich.

After much recommendation I Went here for the first time last week andi have to say that the turkey is outstanding.. fresh thick hand carved and very tasty... Its the real deal and I highly recommended.. the owner was there and was very friendly and went into great detail about how he prepares his food. He offered me samples of the meats to try. I highly recommend giving this place a try when you want a real deal Turkey sandwich.
(5)Bill P.
The turkey is amazing. Food is a little on the plain side, but really well done. I think Grumpy himself makes this a worth-while stop. He really is grumpy, in a cartoon fun kinda way.
(4)Heather G.
Got 10 assorted mini sandwiches yesterday for my daughter and her friends. None had ever had a grumpy sandwich before but they loved them. These sandwiches are the BEST!
(5)Fred K.
Stopped in yesterday after doing a bit of exploration. The yelp reviews were overwhelmingly positive and became a conversation point with mr and mrs grumpy, both of whom had prolonged conversations with us. Eventually we ordered, a number 1, which was something turkey, and a number 6, which had some roast beef and peppers. Both were phenomenal as was the side of Mac n cheese we ordered. Unfortunately, we were less hungry than our brains led on, and we had to leave some Mac an cheese behind. Had I but more belly to give. It was enjoyable if only a bit hard to find, and was a perfect rest stop between Hopewell furnace and the impostor, much tagged ringing rocks a bit further up the road. If you want ringing rocks, head to upper black eddy. If you want a great sandwich, head to grumpy's.

Small family owned restaurants that put their main emphasis on freshness and quality of ingredients are few and far between these days. Gene and his wife and kids at Grumpy's, however, proves that they still do exist. I'm living in Reading, PA for this year and was making my way to the Pottstown Costco when Yelp led me to this little gem on the side of the road. It wasn't too crowded when I walked in and I was able to immediately make my order of a "Grumpy's Roast Beef" sandwich. Gene immediately struck up a conversation and was excited to tell me how he prepares his ingredients freshly each and every day. Apparently, he's been in the food/restaurant world since his teens and has worked for many culinary establishments until he finally got sick of making other people rich. I'm glad he did as the sandwich that he whipped up within 10 minutes of my arrival was phenomenal. The roast beef was perfectly cooked and sliced and the peppers and cheese and all the other components of the sandwich melted together perfectly. According to Gene, "When you eat a sandwich somewhere else, the first thing that comes to mind is the roll. Here, I want the first thing to come to mind to be the quality of the stuff between the bread." Mission accomplished. Will be back for more whenever I pass by again!
(5)Murphy W.
Stopped in for lunch... Very good sandwich and the hand carved turkey was off the chain! Roast beef looked good as well... Family run and doing it the right way... Will be back...
(5)Catherine M.
The Turkey Club is awesome. Service was good and the owner came out to chat with us since he realized we hadn't been there before. The only thing (for me) that keeps it from being 5 stars is the lack of fresh tea - hate the canned stuff.
(4)John W.
Stopped in for lunch while on a job nearby. Was going to go for the roast beef but saw they had corned beef as today's special so went for that. Delicious thick and juicy beef on rye bread with a little bit of cabbage(?). Small side of coleslaw and a huge pickle slice. Nothing fancy but a very good sandwich. Great prices. Nice owner / chef. Would definitely come back.
(4)Ryan L.
Awesome experience from start to finish. Owner didn't recognize me, so he went out of his way to learn about his customers and keep them coming back. Ordered a #5 and #12. Both with fresh, handcarved meat. Both unbelievable. The soups were out of this world. I'll absolutely be stopping back in the near future!
(5)Brian S.
Had lunch there last week and it was delicious. Hand carved turkey was moist and tasty. I would visit again
(4)Sharon B.
We were pleasantly surprised by how wonderful the food is at Grumpy's. The owner made special turkey sandwiches for my 6 and 8 year old. Both devoured them. I had the V-L club which was outstanding. The turkey was so moist and flavorful. My husband ordered The Grumpy sandwich. I took a bite too. It was amazing. I highly recommend if u want a sandwich!
(5)Keith D.
First time at Grumpy's - found through Yelp. Staff was very pleasant including owner and chef who gave us samples of Turkey, Ham and Pastrami - the sample portions were generous. We ordered Turkey sandwiches which others have noted were hand carved and came with a great side of slaw and a dill pickle. I would have given Grumpy's 5 stars as they only use kaiser rolls. I can not have a pastrami on a roll - needs to be served on rye bread.
(4)Denise D.
Went here today for the first time. The sandwich was very good.
(5)Jack T.
Grumpys is fantastic, it's that simple. The sandwiches are incredible and the atmosphere is casual and super fun. This place is a reason to go to Pottstown, for real.
(5)Nakeya B.
Now the sandwiches aren't my thing but I'll tell you what, the mashed potatoes are to die for!
(4)Benjamin C.
Grumpy's Handcarved Sandwiches is as good of a sandwich as one could find regardless of one's location! My friend and I had eaten at Grumpy's about 1 week ago and were extremely impressed with the quality of food and service. The facility is family run and all of the family that we met were very personable. Gene (owner/chef) makes an incredible sandwich. On top of amazing sandwiches he creates soups that are filled with delicious flavors. I cannot recommend this restaurant enough. The environment is clean, warm, inviting, and is perfectly fitted for the types of foods being served. I will be eating here often and cannot wait for my second round! Keep it up Gene and family. You're doing an excellent job!
(5)Tony L.
I go to Grumpy's while my son is at Karate on Saturday mornings. I'm a vegetarian and Gene goes out of his way to make something vegetarian for me. Once he was out of vegetables so he walked a block away to the local farmers market to get me fresh vegetables. He also always has my favorite muffin for me on Saturday mornings. Now that's what I call customer service.
(5)Emily R.
This sandwich shop serves up some of the best sandwiches I have ever tasted. I usually end up getting the roast beef but have tried the hand carved turkey and the ham too. The meat is not your usual every day lunchmeat, but freshly roasted turkey, and roast beef. It is always juicy and served on a fresh roll. He makes up some darn good coleslaw which is served with most the sandwiches along with a pickle. I also suggest you try the sides. The one day he had roasted beets which my kids were fighting over as I ate my sandwich. The shop does take-out or you can eat in. There are plenty of seats and they also serve local coffee. I suggest if you are around Pottstown at lunch, to stop in here. You will not be disappointed. I believe there is WIFI in there too, along with a high chair.

My family had a great lunch here today. Very generous portions. My son ordered one of the soup specials. Delicious.

Don't let the name fool you - Grumpy's is much more than just sandwiches! But let's start there - the sandwiches are REAL meat - carved turkey and roast beef (both amazing). Because the regular size is usually too big for alot of people, Grumpy started offering a smaller size as well. Excellent homemade cole-slaw. Grumpy's soups are in my opinion the best in town. Always fresh, homemade and excellent, as are the sides, which range from baked beans to moroccan chick pea salad to mac and cheese. They have specials everyday, so check their FB page. Wednesday is vegetarian day and he's always got great, non-meat options in both sandwiches and soups. Grumpy is open for coffee and simple egg sandwiches every morning. Excellent coffee. Excellent catering options as well, they have catered several lunches for our business and we have always been pleased. Grumpy can make anything - so just ask. If you need a dessert, be sure to order his award-winning apple cobbler. Grumpy is a great chef and always good for a laugh as he's dishing up his amazing food.
(5)Jenn M.
Best Hand Carved Sandwiches around!! Fresh ingredients and all the food is made on site! The only downside, and it's a small one, they don't have a big selection of cold beverages.
(5)Mike T.
Very good people and very good food at a reasonable price- Roast Beef and Turkey are cooked on site and you can tell after the first bite.
(5)Gregg V.
Best sandwiches in town, loaded with tender, perfectly cooked meat. Turkey is my favorite.
(5)Joseph V.
Off the hook sandwiches! Gene is the man!
(5)Amy L.
In this day and age where fast and processed foods are too often the norm, it's nice to have a place like Grumpy's that serves REAL FOOD! Not only is it REAL, but REAL GOOD! Craving a turkey sandwich like you get the day after Thanksgiving? No need to wait until November. Grumpy's turkey is always fresh carved and much more moist than any Turkey I've ever had. (Sorry mom!). In addition to great food you get a great atmosphere, great people, Wifi and COFFEE to counteract the effects of the Turkey's L-tryptophan! Go now!
