I saw an ad for the restaurant, and thought, "Comfort Zone," sounds like a great place for a burger and some Mac and Cheese. Honestly, what I found was a shockingly confused restaurant. I arrived to find that the full name is Comfort Zone Deli. Comfort food is should be relaxed and simple. Delis should be hustle and bustle. The menu was an array of non-cohesive thoughts; breakfast, Italian food, specialties, etc. What didn't I see? Mac and cheese wasn't a menu item at the "comfort zone." But hey, a good meal fixes everything. The meal started great! The staff is nice and attentive (though, with that many empty tables on a Friday...). First came a complimentary bread plate. It was good stuff. Next came an app that my son loves and doesn't understand that it's impossible to cook and places like this can't do; fried calamari. Honestly, they nailed one of the hardest items you can get right. They were a bit salty, but amazing! The sauce was a nice thin marinara sauce that didn't over power the squid. I was impressed. Then the meals came. My son ordered chocolate chip pancakes. They were great. They were cooked right, the chips were melted, but not dissolved. Someone took pride in their work. My wife's burger was really mediocre and wrong. A burger is so simple, I'm teaching my nine year old son to make them; half beef, half pork, onions and garlic and you're in. And bacon is such an easy thing to remember. The fries are terrible frozen fries that I've complained about at other places. They taste terrible. Note to all lazy restaurant owners, if you're too lazy to cut fries, grab frozen STEAK fries; at least they're different. Then there's my order; "chicken and chips." Don't think of ordering it. When my family goes out to eat, we usually share food to see how everything is. When it came time for me to share, everyone saw the grease I was pressing into napkins to make the chicken edible. Not only was it greasy, but it tasted like the oil was shot, or they used the same fryer as the calamari. Either way, I should have just grabbed Taco Bell on the way home. But it goes back this being a super confused restaurant. How can you calamari to a 9 out of 10, but mess up fried chicken, burgers and fries. Recap: Calamari app: 5 stars Chocolate pancakes: 4 stars Fries: 1 star Burger: 0 stars Fried chicken: they owe me stars.
