Let me start by saying that I plan on returning to Palazzo 53 and would recommend it to friends with one caveat: the service is poor. My wife and I dined on a busy Saturday night. We waited about 20 minutes before our server greeted us, despite being passed about a dozen times by different waitstaff. Our server was extremely personable, but always seemed one step behind. That being said, the food was very good. I had a Caesar salad, chicken Marsala and the tiramisu. My wife had the arugula salad, lobster ravioli and a cannoli. We would recommend every item. The decor was typical for a NEPA Italian restaurant. It reminded me of AV in Moosic. The red booths are a nice touch. Overall a pleasant experience.

we/ve only lived here in NE Pennsylvania for 7 years, but are always stunned by how many Italian restaurants there are. We've been to many, and similar menus tend to get old. And, I have to say, Pittston is a working class city, not where I would have expected such a good high end restaurant. But it is only 10 miles from our home so we decided to try it. We were delighted. Decor is elegant, mildly retro but very clean and soothing. We were greeted with professional courtesy and shown to our seat (first table seated, we're in our 60's!). Plenty of staff and very attentive. Waitress was knowledgable and had memorized a HUGE specials menu (when it gets that long, they should print it out, who can remember) When I asked her about a wine I didn't know, she said she would check with the bar - the hostess then brought me a good 2 oz. sample to taste! Never had that happen before. It was a Tuscan wine - broad, smooth and dry - don't remember the name, but great. Good bread, though a skimpy portion - would have liked more. My wife won't let me get it, but they didn't offer, either. She had an avocado/crab on pineapple appetizer which she found to be great (the pineapple put me off). I had an heirloom tomato salad for the appetizer - the tomatoes weren't ripe (I should have known better), but the blue cheese/feta dressing was superb, served over fresh spinach. She had their signature veal ragu - fabulous. I had a special, something (I'm embarrassed), in a purse shaped pasta with a lobster and crab in tomato basil cream sauce - also fabulous. Was delighted with the amount of seafood. She had a huge slice of lemon cake for dessert - amazingly light and moist. I had a fruit topped zabaglione. Sweeter than I am used to, but delicious. If you are in the area, don't miss this place - we'd take out of town snobs without a moment's hesitation!

Love it. You would never know you are in Pittston. For that matter you would never know you were in the valley! Great city atmosphere!

This is the best restaurant I have eaten in the Wyoming valley by far! The only average dish are the salads. The main dishes melt in your mouth. I have eaten there 3 times now over the past year and my opinion just gets better each time. The last time I had a dish with both tuna and steak and thought it was the best dish I have had all year. I rarely eat red meat but after that dish I might reconsider. I can not understand any review less than 4 stars.

I called a month ago to schedule a graduation luncheon for my husband in the Spring. I was told the luncheon menu online is for Funerals during the week only. I asked to speak to a manager to discuss further as the website does not state any of this. I was told there was no one else I can speak to regarding this matter and that the owner is aware of the online description. I did leave my number for the owner to call me and never received a call. Well its a month later and they still did not update the website to reflect the funeral only policy. I am amazed at lack of professionalism and customer service that I experienced with Palazzo 53. It would be hard for me to believe these poor qualities do not reflect into other aspects of this restaurant. I feel sorry for the Wyoming Valley if this is one of the best restaurants they have.

The food was excellent (my wife was especially impressed with the salmon), the service good and the wait staff was professional & efficient. However, I have to ding them a bit. The music was a bit loud, causing the other patrons to have to practically shout to be heard; In other words, it was really loud. Also, the lighting was a step below appropriate; it was downright dim. A personal gripe: 5$ for a club soda? That's unreasonable.

Palazzo 53 is in a great location in downtown Pittston. The atmosphere is good, but a little disjointed. The bar area is sleek and cool, but then the back is very open, dark, and not too intimate. We ordered the spicy calamari and beet salad. They were pretty good. I would probably order something else to try the other things on the menu. For my entree, I got the veal ragu on papardelle. This was great! Kind of a blush ragu with some cream and big fat noodles. Meat was tender. Great dish, the only thing I'd say is it's a little greasy - guess that adds to the flavor. Overall great place and well received in this location for sure. Try it!

Food was good, service was solid and the proprietor was lovely. It's a family owned place. Pricing is expensive for NEPA. Decor is classy without trying too hard however it's very dark and lacks adequate lighting. I struggled to read my menu. My martini was well prepared and I enjoyed the specials rather than ordering off the menu. I'd definitely return.

HORRIBLE.... Got a recommendation from a fellow yelpster.. Not sure what the 4 star ratings are about though.. I lived in NYC and the Philly area for a while now. I'm not saying its the best places for food nor am I ranting and raving that I'm a NYC boy... I have a ton of favorites in this area but this is by far the worst... First off lets talk about the atmosphere... yeah nice relaxing lol but need a flashlight to find things its so dam dark you can't see anything.. Need Salt and Pepper... ask your neighbors to pass it being they are sooo close seated to you.. oh and they need to turn it down a notch. Couldn't even hear my gf convo... Now on to the main part. THE FOOD AND SERVICE... Well lets just say 1 star for both is way to much... My gf and I both ordered Salads (which wasn't included with our dinner price fyi) well as we sat there and waited for it, the waiter brought us an appetizer.... well this wasn't ours and we didn't order one.. He proceeds to drop it down on our table and pretty much walked away... I waved him back and said...MMMM this isn't ours. He then took it off my table and just handed it to the neighbor table. EWWW total grossed me out. I told him we ordered Salads. He then went in the back and brought out my salad but forgot hers. As I waited like any other gentleman would wait to eat, I noticed he was bringing hers... About 5 min or so passed and nothing. I then saw him walking not to our table but someone else's so I waved him back and ask where her salad was? He said oh sorry I will get it now....He then went back in the kitchen and brought out her salad with both of our dinners as well. Like give us time.. Its (Fine) dining for a reason not (fastfood) your paying to relax not to be rushed..... Well my food all SUCKED had noooo taste for real not just saying that but the sauce was blah and the chicken was tasteless... my gf said hers was ok she got fish... I didnt try it. I'm not a fan nor is she so we will NOT BE visting again.. ALSO why charge so much for food if your taste is way off and your service is below a 1 star... PPL open your eyes there is bigger and better out there... :)

An excellent addition to downtown Pittston! Palazzo has outstanding food, although you will be paying for it as their is an a-la-carte set up during my few visits a year ago (long overdue post, I know!). I assume that hasn't changed but I can't say for sure. When you go inside you won't believe that you are eating in downtown Pittston, as it has more of a big city feel to it. I never had any drinks here but I've heard they make some really good ones. I've had crab cakes that had much more crab than filling like many places in the area, along with some chicken and pasta dishes that were also worth the price. You should try to save room for dessert as their dessert tray will likely have something for everyone! Call ahead on the weekends as it does get busy, and expect to wait a little while for your food to be served. Not really a complaint, as it likely means the food is being made fresh!

Excellent food and drinks. We went as a party of 4 that was seated after a larger party of 7 that took forever to place their order. Another server jumped in to take our order so we didn't have to wait for ours to punch in the other complicated one, great teamwork. My son and I had the grilled lamb chop special, his was great, mine was very tasty but just a tad more done than I would have prefered. Still very good. My wife had a pumpkin ravioli with sausage special, the cream sauce was fantastic! We also tried a calamari special that had a spicy red sauce along with olives and goat cheese, very nice combination. Prior ro being seated we had drinks in the bar and they were all very good, the House Lemonade and Apple cider drinks were both great, Thanks for a great meal.

I grew up in the Valley. Pittston was always the place you went for Italian. So, naturally when I recently returned, I looked for something worthy of my memory of "back home". Thanks to Yelp, I found Palazzo 53 on Main Street in Pittston. In my experience, Italian restaurants are easily 'average" - who doesn't like Italian cuisine? But, it is hard to find one memorable enough to drive 350 miles one way to prove that the first go round wasn't an aberration. Parking on the street was easy. The exterior is very retro with its bright red neon sign and contemporary torch heaters. The bar is up front with high top seating and was crowded both visits. The hostess - perhaps part of the family ownership - was efficient and welcoming. The dining room is sophisticated by city standards; the only complaint is that the music could've been a bit more appropriate for a supper club. Mirrors expand the dining room and appeal to the voyeur to see who is else is enjoying the food. But it really is about food and service, right? Cut to the chase - the veal marsala is the best I have ever had. Two visits, two people, three orders of veal marsala and it would've been a sweep but my wife did not want to order it on our first visit since I already had. A Super Tuscan for $40 accompanied the meal. We shared a wonderful side of linguine with olive oil and toasted garlic. The salads were fresh, beautifully presented, and perfectly sized. Dessert? We split a house-made zabaglione with fresh strawberries. The service? Twice we were lucky enough to snare the attention of Whitney. Attentive but not overbearing, easy to tease with a quick laugh and bright eyes, she demonstrated a well advanced emotional intelligence indispensable to her tasks; she helped make our experience all the more memorable. Undoubtedly, this young woman is bound for greater adventures. I left Scranton in 1972 and found little reason to return. Ironically, the veal marsala in Pittston will bring me home yet again.

Great food and atmosphere but their prices are absolutely ridiculous for their location. Make sure you ask how much the specials costs, although the last time I ordered one it was great it was $34 just for the piece of fish without the sides... Still great tasting food.. just pricey for downtown Pittston

Been here multiple times. The food is some of the best in the area - as long as Chris, the owner, is back in the kitchen. Twice we went and he was not there and the food came out raw. However, when he is cooking, the food is fresh and excellent. The seafood is always very fresh and everything is made to order. The service is nothing to write home about. They have very young kids for their wait staff who clearly don't care very much and are not the best servers. The prices on the menu are decent, but watch out if you order a special - they are at least double what a dinner is on the menu. Desserts are excellent and always taste freshly made.

Big disappointment in my eyes... Dining room decor was outdated. Took a while for a waiter to even stop over at our table. We ordered 2 meals from daily specials. The food did not match the price.

Beautiful interior, excellent service, and the most delicious meal we've had in a long time. The crab cocktail app was stellar, followed by one of the most incredible salads I've ever had. Fantastic entrees, we had the bone in veal shank and seafood ravioli, both incredible. We will be going back!

Food and drink were outstanding. I emphatically recommend the caesar salad, veal chop calabrese, and Palazzo highball (Grey Goose, club soda & fresh lemon juice over ice). The service was spot on and the ambiance (may I say it out loud?) is sophisticated. Definitely one-of-a-kind in NE Pa.

Went there a few days ago because of the good reviews on here, ended up disappointed. The hostess came across like she thought we were beneath her. The food was decent but my shrimp had way to much lemon I think someone in the back made a mistake with the juice bottle. The ravioli special was very good but a bit small. Drinks are overpriced, and if your going to charge that much hey how about the proper glassware!! Service was decent but needs a little work like how about bringing all the dinners out at once!!! Overall just not a great value for the price you charge.

Wow. I was really impressed with this place. It's classy, busy, and filled with gorgeous italian americans :) We ended up having to wait an hour for our reserved table due to table-camping, but I didn't even notice the wait - that is how good the hostess was. As soon as three seats opened up at the bar, she ushered us over, and kept us up to date on when a table would be read for us. We took the time to have some of their specialty drinks. I had the blood orange gin fizz - it was sour and slightly sweet, but not sugary. Very refreshing. My friends enjoyed their cocktails as well. We were sat as soon as a table was ready and the hostess apologized for the wait and filled us in on some of the specials. Our server was knowledgeable and kindly separated our checks even though he was obviously very busy. His busser was also helpful and attentive. We started with the Prosciutto di Parma and Burrata... before we could even think to bring out our phones for a pic, we downed those delicious balls of cheese. It was a simple preparation that really allowed the mellow, creamy cheese and the salty prosciutto to shine together. We then tried one of the appetizer specials - lump crab over avocado and blood oranges. I'm not a seafood fan, but I love avocado, and it looked too good to not give it a try. I really enjoyed it. The crab was fresh, and paired well with the ripe avocado. My friends were raving about it. Finally, for the entrees. Between us we tried the Pappardelle Veal Ragu, and two specials - Veal and Spinach Cannelloni in a slightly smoky cream sauce, and Shrimp Francaise over parmesan rice. My entree was the Pappardelle, and the half portion was enough for me. I even took some home. The veal was tender, shredded (not ground) and melted in your mouth. I absolutely loved it, and declared Palazzo my favorite Italian restaurant in the area upon first bite. The other entrees were also fantastic, beautifully plated, and decadent. Now for dessert - We shared the cheesecake, which was pretty good, and the tiramisu. It seems that whenever my gourmandie friends and I go to a new restaurant, we split that place's version of tiramisu. We expected it to be GRAND here, based on our experience thus far - unfortunately, we were disappointed. It was served in a martini glass and tasted like skim milk, a dash of ground coffee, and an unmixed blob of mascarpone. It was watery and bland, and the lady finger(s) had completely disintegrated until it was transformed into an occasional gritty mouth-feel among the watery milk. Not a fan. It was not as bad as our previous adventure in desserts at another local restaurant where it was SALTED - haha. But, still... it was a let down. And yet, as much as I wanted to remove a star for that, I just can't. I've been thinking about this place since I left! I may try other desserts when I come back (and I WILL be back for sure) but I am most excited to try other items of their main menu. Every single bite of food from appetizer through entree was incredible, and I can't wait to go again.

Such food! What a meal! See pictures! I went here with my family and boy what great food we had! The salmon special was killer, and the mushroom ravioli had such flavor. Really, a joy. A joy, really.

Rarely does one go a restaurant and everyone is blown away by their meal. This happened at Palazzo 53. We went here for my father's birthday (last year we came for my brother's birthday). The chef came over, introduced himself and prepared a special dish for me, since I was afraid I wouldn't be able to eat anything on their menu (I wasn't eating pasta or meat). They were very accommodating and made this amazing rice pilaf inside a baked tomato that was out of this world. Everyone's food was tender, had just the right amount of seasoning and cooked to perfection. They were very friendly and the atmosphere is upscale without being pretentious.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
