So when I go to this part of town sometimes i just dont have the energy to fight for parking. The day has been long and I am hungry so I just want to go somewhere that I can park the car without having to sign over my first born to pay a parking fee. Low and behold the Ugly Moose appears to help me out. A great little place tucked away with good food and drinks and parking! The crowd is a little younger a lot of college kids but they were not the obnoxius ones you sometimes see in manayunk which was a refreshing change. Crab Dip was delicious! Im looking forward to going and parking in there lot again!

Great food, good beer. Service can be a little spotty at times due to some disorganization but otherwise a great place to grab a beer and some food. Wings are great, as is the steak sandwich.

This was certainly an interesting dining experience!! We decided to check out the Ugly Moose on a limb - to try something new. We checked out the menu and reviews beforehand and saw a few things that were worth trying. First, let me say that I LOVED the decor/theme of the restaurant. It's an old log cabin which gives it a country style, in the middle of Philadelphia. The wait staff was direct and precise, we never really waited for anything. We got the crab dip based off the great reviews, and boy did it not disappoint. It came with chips and bread which was a great switch up. My boyfriend and I both got the Adirondack Filet - their number one seller. I got mine medium rare, he got his medium. When I say this was melt in your mouth steak, I am NOT kidding!! I didn't even need to use my teeth to bite through the steak. It was SO perfectly cooked. The melted provolone cheese and peppercorn dressing complimented the sandwich well (although I would have enjoyed a -little- more dressing). The meal comes with onion rings, so my boyfriend got fries instead so we could switch things up. The fries were crisp and flavorful, as were the onion rings. Once again, another fantastic spot in Manayunk =) By the way, the margaritas were SPOT ON!!!

Sooo I have to admit I avoided checking this place out because of the exterior, but never judge a book by it's cover folks! Finally checked this place out after my roomies raved about it and loved it! One of the best burgers I had in a long time and the beer selection not too shabby :)

Hmm....being that my nick name is moose i think we might be related! I've been here many times and this is a great little out of the way bar in Manayunk. The place is very chill and is not like the other pretty people places that are up the road. This is the place to go to and relax and sit around and enjoy food, a game or omg actually talk with friends. The menu is excellent really. I've had 2 things i would recommend HIGHLY. 1 is the wings (moose knuckles) i believe they are called. Being a wing man its rare for me to rave about wings but this place has some seriously good wings and the sauce is perfect nice spice and just great. The other food item i recommend is the cheese steak. Being in a city of cheesesteak inventions this place does it nicely. Chopped up and all gooey and just perfect. A great aspect of this place is the small lot that houses it. You can get free valet parking, just tip the guy and you're all set! It's really PERFECT and not a problem at all. Its a nice homely place that is a great place to hang and just relax. Highly recommended.

We go to the Moose pretty often for lunch and dinner, and love it. They usually have a pretty decent selection of beer on tap, and the food is very good. I highly recommend the Adirondack sandwich, which has slices of filet mignon with provolone cheese, peppercorn dressing, and horseradish sauce. Pretty awesome! It's also a great place to go on a cold winter's night. They have a great fireplace that is always roaring and fun Canadian themed decorations.

The service is really slow so I suggest going for a meal when you don't have anything else to do. Great beer selections and the food is really good once it arrives.

All I can think about are chicken cheesesteaks. It's been hours since I had one at the Ugly Moose last night and still, sitting here at work, they're still all I can think about. The Moose is a comfortable getaway, offset from the road and offset from the rest of Philly. Good beers and great food- well-placed tv's make it a top notch joint to watch games at. They have the Garage too, even bigger and better tv's for the bigger games. It's a quality spot, a real honest & reliable place to go with a special lady or man friend or with a group of folks. You can't beat it and knowing that is one of the fun things that makes the Moose even better. If you want to experiment, get out there and get crazy- there are other places for that. But if you want to something you can trust, love, and really enjoy because of how it easy it is- the Moose is perfect.

This is one of our favorite neighborhood bars. Cozy inside, not too large, in the winter they have a wood burning fireplace going. It has a great beer selection on tap and a fantastic bar food menu, with some nicer plates mixed in. It's not very expensive and like the first review said, sort of off the beaten path. It does have the free valet parking because the lot is small and they stack the cars in there, but I've always had parking if we drive. Flat screen TVs to watch the games and great people working there!

Went there on a recommendation. It is a real treasure. We were greeted at the door by the manager, he informed us it would be a little bit of a wait. The owner, JP came over and introduced himself and asked if he could bring us some appetizers and drinks while we wait. So friendly like you are at someones home, except you need to pay for the food. We ordered the wings, so very good! Make sure if you want vodka order it up with ice on the side. They have a nice selection of beers. When we were seated the waitress came over and went for the menu and specials. I went for the Adirondack Filet sandwich, The meat was tender and the dressing just right. Instead of their delicious fries(which I took one from my husband's plate) I had a side salad. They were extremely accommodating. Towards the end of the meal the owner came over to see how our meals were. All four were very good. The others had burgers and they were down perfectly. I will defiantly go back again to the Ugly Moose and also try Deke's BBQ next door.

I love the Moose! This is a cool place to have a burger, a beer, a glass of wine, play trivia or watch the game on one of their large flat screen televisions. The food is unbelievable. My personal favorite is the USA burger, a hand pressed work of art on a bun. The atmosphere is friendly and quirky, and yes, there is a moose. I won't visit Philadelphia without stopping by the Moose for a great meal and to say hello to JP, the owner. By far one of my favorite places to drink and dine. It's a little off the beaten path, so keep your eyes peeled. theuglymoose.com

This isn't your typical Manayunk spot. It is a little out of the way, but a nice place to spend the evening. The food is amazing. They have great specials and it is a nice atmosphere inside the actual restaurant regardless of its somewhat awkward layout. They have a nice variety of beers on tap and the owner is a nice guy. One downside.... the quizzo is subpar.

Great low key place to hang out with friends when you want to get away from main street. Nice pot belly stove, surprisingly delicious burgers and a good beer selection. Our kickball team often meets here before games to get "warmed up". Ronnie the server is awesome and always takes great care of you.

Great place to get away from the Main street scene, easy parking. Good menu, good drinks, great burgers! Unfortunately, the service in the restaurant section has gone downhill over the last few months to the point that I have started avoiding the Moose. Used to come here almost every week, but the recent waitstaff is absolutely terrible. On the flipside, if you want a place where your glass or pitcher can sit empty for 30 minutes while you try to flag down your 'waiter', it certainly saves you money as by the time the waiter bothers to pay attention, you just want your check and get out. Food: 4 stars Atmosphere: 4 stars Service: 0 stars

I can't get enough of this place! It has a unique and laid-back atmosphere, generally friendly (though not always quick) service and good food. It breaks the mold for places in Manayunk and is a nice change. Everyone we bring to the Ugly Moose loves it. The burgers are big and juicy, and you can tell they use fresh, quality ingredients. Duck stickers are delicious and the wings are some of the best in town. I've also had the chicken caesar grinder (nice, homemade tasting caesar dressing) and the crab cake sandwich (it's HUGE crabcake), which were both fantastic. There's always something interesting on draft, and it's a great space to hold a party (went to one recently, and it was a blast). It's a nice break from the typical Manayunk scene - including the fact that if you're driving, you don't have to worry about parking - they have their own lot and valet on weekends.

I went in there to try their chili and it was ok but nothing special so I decided to return and try their hamburgers because I heard they were good.I had the Burger Lorrainne and it was Awesome!!! even though I misspelled the name lol The bun they use is great and the onion rings were even good.I have had a ton of hamburgers in the Manayunk,East Falls area and this was easily the best one Ive had

With great burgers, a fireplace, friendly staff, free parking & weeknight specials (wednesday nights 2 for 1 burger night) the Ugly Moose is like a warm inviting ski lodge nestled in the hills of Manayunk.

Want to get away to the Poconos but don't feel like driving? Go to the Ugly Moose. This place has such a unique atmosphere - you don't feel like you are in Manayunk/Roxborough. This place would get 5 stars if the bar service wasn't so slow! But their food is always consistently good - wings are excellent and so is the chicken cheesesteak. Their craft beer selection is awesome! And the table service is usually good. Overall, you can't go wrong!

This is more of a food review. I visited the Ugly Moose with a group of four. Everyone's meals were mediocre. The two different pasta dishes that my hubby and I ordered were just ok. My friends are fans of buffalo wings but were disappointed with them here. Alright, they hated the wings. They complained about them the whole time. Not spicy enough and not enough meat on them. I guess it can be a good hangout, whether it's two people or a big group. The decor is nice, has some local historic photos on the walls. It's a big place for this area, and it's got that going for it. Meh.

Basic fried food & sports environment - not really my thing. Our server was kinda rude and it took forever to get (correct) drinks. It was very loud.. even though we ate out side.

Great place. Great beer selection and consistent food; although the veggie burger used to be a LOT better. Now it's kind of mushy and falls apart. But that's pretty much my only complaint. Quizzo is fun, the servers are pretty friendly, and the wings are delicious. Definitely a great local bar.

The Ugly Moose is not only a great place to grab a beer but also has quality food at an affordable price. The atmosphere is really cool too as you can eat inside or outside at their picnic tables. Their Blue Burger is my favorite item. As a resident of Manayunk, I would highly recommend this to anyone passing through.

This is a great place to come and watch sports while having a good meal. The atmosphere is great and the burgers are delicious! If you're looking for good food with not a lot of fuss this is the place to go!

I went here with a few friends for dinner and some march madness. It was a great place to take in a few games. It has the feel of a ski lodge from the north with a nice selection of beer on tap. I would definitely recommend the wings! They are roasted and then flash fried for a perfect texture. And the seasoning is really well put together. Awesome. I also had the P and G salad, which was mostly G (gorgonzola) and not so much P (pear), but it was good enough. I should have known and just made the wings my meal. I'm already craving more. Get it.

Friendly staff, interesting decor and welcoming feel. Parking lot is a plus as well in this area of town. Decent beer selection. Cheesesteak Poutine wit onions makes the world go round. Only gripe is sometimes when it's busy the bartenders can be a bit slow.

Great food. Nice staff. Beer. This place really is a hidden gem. By hidden I mean it is set back in a parking lot and the building cannot be seen from the road. You will be glad you walked in and checked it out though. Canadian themes but just right. Fun place to watch hockey games. The only drawback of this place is that it is small and gets packed easily. Waits can be long and it can feel cramped. Does have valet if you can't find parking too.

Northern Exposure in Manayunk??? I took my (very adult) son there for his birthday-- he'd heard of it and wanted to try. So last Saturday evening (early) he drove from Bordentown, NJ, and I from Ardmore. The ambiance is "Northern Exposure", the chairs comfortable, the staff attentive and friendly but not overbearing, the food superb and the servings bordered on excessive (I at most of my Adirondack steak (filet) sandwich for breakfast on Sunday). The lengthy and interesting beer list was appealing-- I had my favorite Woodchuck ale, my son had some fascinating new beer. We started with sharing an order of poutine (Warning: big enough for 4 people) and QUITE delicious. Never mind Current G, we are not in Canada, it was a first time for both of us. We had nothing but our own well-educated palates to tell us that it was a treat. The filets in the Adirondac steak sandwich were perfect. Next time I'll try the special-- which that night was a baked fish that sounded heavenly. I look forward to bringing friends here.

Fun! And yes, they do have tree stumps for seats, though I hope it's for show. Because do you want to sit on a tree stump? And pay for it? Drinks are good--any pour that makes me say "Yay!" is always welcome. The food is okay. Is there anywhere in the area where the food is made in house? Seriously, I'd love to know. If you have had poutine, do not get it here. Frozen fries, very little gravy, and... mozzarella. Canada, I am sorry.

I really wanted this to be a four star, but the entire experience was strange. The host/server (yes they were one and the same) seemed to care less that he or anyone else was at the restaurant. My wife and I both ordered the filet. We did not expect much, because it was a filet for under thirty bucks, but somehow Ugly Moose managed to fall short of our modest expectations. We each started with Caesar Salad with dressing on the side. The salads came out soaking wet. It was so wet the croutons started crying out for life jackets. This was not dressing making the salad wet- it's just water. When I mentioned how wet the salad was the server just shook his head and said he hates that. The main dish looked promising. I tried the mashed potatoes first. I choked down my bite. Apparently, these are garlic mashed potatoes (not what the menu says, but hey- who doesn't like a little garlic?). I love mashed potatoes with a little garlic. I hate mashed garlic with a little potatoes which is what this seemed to be. When I mentioned this to the server he just shook his head again. He didn't really say anything. This was disappointing. They really were horrible and almost ruined the Steak. The Steak. This is the bright part of the meal (and hey, if can only get one thing right, make it the steak). It was so right. It honestly cut like soft butter under my fork- that's right, no knife needed for this puppy. Ugly Moose- your steak salvaged a 2nd star for you. The server asked about the meal and we told him about our disappointment in everything except the steak. His reply? "That's all that really matters anyways." He brought us our check and said, "I can't do much for you, but I did take the Coke off your check." Gee thanks. 2/3's of our $50 meal is lousy and we get a coke. Glad to know you care. If you would make an effort, you might have a good place.

I have to admit- wasn't entirely sure what to expect from the Ugly Moose. Was it going to be a mad sketch bar or a hopping, run of the mill dive spot in Manayunk. I'm thrilled to say it was neither! I was totally blown away by its small little corner of town with its own parking and patios. The vibe was rural, yet totally hip at the same time. The legit wood stove inside and tree stump stools only adds value to this impression. Sitting down was different. I glanced at the menu and wasn't immediately impressed. Especially with the nachos. I have to order nachos anywhere I go! When I saw that these were pretty run of the mill, my heart sank. However, the house chilli that came generously applied to them could legitimately win a cook off prize! By the time I was done with the nachos, I half way wished I had just gotten a bowel of that stuff! While the chips were totally generic, I've since decided that I shouldn't expect homemade chips from this place, as it doesn't seem to fit. However, I will say that replacing the Acme Special chips with homemade potato chips would deliver a phenomenal food experience. The beer taps were amazingly fresh- probably the best taps I've had in Manayunk, which says a lot since the bars are almost as common as stray cats. The icing of the experience was the staff. Quite attentive and friendly. Hands down, this will be a permanent haunt for me while living in Manayunk!

Food is really good! Crab dip and filet sandwich was really good.. The burgers were good nothing crazy though. As for the service, it sucks. The bartender wasn't really friendly to my group, but was so happy when talking to the man next to us and taking shots with him and our server was not friendly either, nor really helpful. We had to ask another server numerous times for things. Service can definitely use some help. Inside the place is super cozy and has a warm feel. Overall any place can have good food but when you're being served by rude/ inattentive people it makes the experience horrible.

Decor- Very cool barn/style bar with about 14 tables. Wood stove during cold months . Plenty of parking with a valet on Friday - Saturday. Free wiFi and clean restrooms (very cold restroom per the wife) New patio / picnic tables are a good spot to enjoy nice weather. Service- Bartenders and staff are really cool and remember you after you one visit. Rarely sit at tables, but waiters / host are friendly and work the room. I think you'll find yourself enjoying company of employees more here then most of the spots on main st. Food/ drinks- Wife enjoys the salmon entree a lot! Food very good and comes out quickly.Like most philly spots prices are a little on the high side but the do have some decent specials. Recently they have stepped up their cocktail game and have some nice craft cocktails (you may have to ask for cocktail menu- I think they should share it more frequently) . Good beer selection - decent wine pours (8 a glass)

One of my favorite places in the yunk, friendly service and great food. Love the Adirondack sandwich and salmon! But have tried most of the menu and haven't found anything I didn't like! Bonus, parking lot so no issue if you're not local and can't walk.

I probably won't be back because I'm not in this area often, but I'm satisfied that we ended up here. When we arrived after driving all over looking for parking, we were surprised at the valet service. The guy was really nice and trustworthy. Getting out of the car, you are hit head to toe with the smell of BBQ from the place next door. Really puts you in the mood for a woodsy type atmosphere, which the Ugly Moose provided. Cute place inside, with very friendly staff. (Surprisingly empty for a Friday night around 9, but so was the rest of the town so I don't know what that was about). When they told us that their card machine wasn't working, they saved our seats for us as we ran next door to use the ATM. The bartender was a sweet heart, and made a sample of their raspberry beer mix immediately for my friend who wasn't sure if she would like it. (She didn't like it, but that's because she isn't a beer fan. I (a beer fan), didn't like it because I'm not a fan of raspberry. BUT- if you do like raspberry, it's a decent mix for a decent price. I had $4 Hoegaardens all night, which were always quickly refilled. Friend had a few different mixed drinks, which were always made pretty strong! We also ordered wings right before the kitchen was closing (11:00 p.m.), which were tasty. Come in orders of 7, 13, and one other size- we got the mild sauce, which was just a touch on the spicy side, in a good way! At the end of the night, we were a little weirded out by the gentleman taking a dump in the woman's restroom with the door unlocked.... so... there was that. All in all, nice place with nice people and a great atmosphere for conversation without having to scream over music.

This is a good place / bar to go to when you don't feel like being shoulder to shoulder with drunk college kids at a bar. Pretty laid back atmosphere and the service has always been great. Bartenders and servers are friendly, personable and take the time to talk to customers and get them what they want. They have a full bar and will make you just about any cocktail you want. Beer selection is decent too. As far as the food goes.. I'm kind of over it. I've eaten here a few times and it was decent but it's not somewhere that I will go out of my way to eat at. Fine if you're just looking for sandwiches / bar food / wings .. And yes the filet mignon sandwich is tasty like others have said! Highlight : go to the bar if you're looking for somewhere mellow and relaxing (they also have a wood burning stove and seats around that for the fall and winter)

Don't get my one star as a bad review on the food.. Food is good! Just the service is the absolute worst. As working in the food industry, service is key to having people come back to your establishment, better tip, and great reviews.. But after waiting 20 minutes at a bar with the woman bartender passing making eye contact and not giving a care in the world that you're obviously waiting for a drink, until she decides too.. Then finally at a table, empty beers.. No menus... Servers and the manager pass by.. Empty beers... Wouldn't you THINK to offer someone something? Not at this place! I hate negative reviews but I've given this place multiple chances for the service to improve.. And this last time is the last straw! Never returning!

This is on of those "Gems" you might say tucked away from the madness of Main St. in Manayunk. A great spot to go and relax , enjoy a few libations , followed with some pretty good food. Ah yes the "Ugly Moose" is a Canadian themed pub with a stuffed moose head coming from the wall. Interesting something you wouldn't see on the regular I thought. Nice sized bar , plenty of seating , with a great rotating selections in fine crafts to be tapped, along with a good bottle selection. For the beer aficionado they always have a great selection to choose from. Great selections of liquors and wines if you are not into the beer scene. Either way you will be satisfied in which ever route you take to enjoy a libation or two. Now lets talk about the food that these guys make. Amazing wings, simply delicious big meaty wings. Moose knuckles or Moose wings is the debate, to me this is a must order. Intense flavor, lightly breaded, the seasonings and sauce combined together will make your taste buds go crazy. Another few favorites I have enjoyed were their GINORMOUS burgers and their meatloaf. Yes I said meatloaf, their "Fat Daddy's Prison Shank Meatloaf " and Hickory Cheeseburger with nice cuts of bacon with cheddar cheese. Instant winner , with a fine craft washing it down you can't go wrong. Basically anything you order the portions are not small, so if you are into salads (roughage) you will be impressed by the size, even the appetizers are not small. For a big guy like myself I appreciate places like here. Great crew of people from the wait staff to the bartenders that work in here. The parking once you enter the place they offer valet parking. It is free, just leave the guy a tip, you know proper etiquette. Great spot to go to watch an event , or to just relax and enjoy. Now go get some wings!!!

Went with a few people for happy hour and had a good time. They have their own lot so there's plenty of parking if you get there early enough for happy hour. (the lot did seem pretty packed by the time I left) For decor, it's a relaxed chill log cabin feel. Moose heads on the wall and antiquishy photos on the wall keep you entertained as well. Had their wings. Had the regular and the John's sause wings. The regular wings were decent. You're average good wings. I enjoyed the John's wings a lot more. Really wish I had not split the wing and just gotten my whole batch in the John's sauce. Garden Salad was great! Fresh and for 5 bucks it definitely was a steal. Also had the TPM panini with and it was pretty delicious. All around a good bar to go hang out with a bunch of friends. With above average food and decent drink selections on tap. ^.^

I'm going to go ahead and give this place a "meh." The best things The Ugly Moose has going for it are its location and atmosphere. Just below Ridge Ave. on Shurs Lane, the Moose has a private parking lot and usually plenty of street parking, too. Inside is like a ski lodge complete with the requisite moose heads on the walls, wood-burning stove and dark, cozy ambiance. Unfortunately, the food is nothing special and the service can be incredibly slow. The staff is nice, but you usually wait a while before being able to place an order. The beer menu is good, the food menu pretty predictable. In fact, the food is so unremarkable I'm not even going to write about it. It's not bad food - especially when you need something in your stomach after drinking a bunch or beer - just don't seek out the Moose expecting an amazing meal. My advice is to go to the Moose on a cold day to drink some stout and commiserate with other Philly sports fans when there's a game on TV. Sit by the fire and have a heart to heart with a friend. Belly up to the bar and chat with the bartender over a nice lager. It's a friendly neighborhood watering hole - just don't expect it to knock your socks off.

Came with a group from work on a Friday evening. The storefront is rather non-descript and looks a bit off-putting, but once you get inside restaurant it's nicer. The food, in my experience, was really nothing to write home about. I tried the fish and chips, and truly regretted not ordering the T.P.M. panini. When it arrived, it was visually appealing. Golden brown fish fillets, crispy looking chips, and a portion of slaw. The taste, however, did not match the looks. The chips were nice and crispy, but my fish was incredibly unappetizing: bland, tasteless, and wet. So much that it was soaking through the batter. I couldn't even finish it. Another member of the group had the same dish and echoed my sentiments about the visual appeal and lack of taste. Those who had the burgers (Adirondack) actually liked their meals. Me? I was appreciative of the side salad and chips that came with my meal.

The food here is better than most sit down pubs in Manayunk. The staff is always incredibly friendly and the service is impeccable. They are very attentive when I've dined here on top of every request. Burgers are excellent and the wings are very good. The wings are huge and don't have any skin on them, it's almost like they are seasoned with a dry rub then fried. No chewy fatty outer layer. They menu isn't layered with wing sauce choices so you'll have to go the standard hot, extra hot or no sauce route. I'm not going to call them the best wings in town, but they are very good and the fact is that they are 1/2 priced on Sunday makes them even better. On Sunday they'll usually have a $4 craft beer on the menu too, one from their moderate selection. Eating inside is very roomy and comfortable. It might have a tendancy to fill up on peak times such as Sat or Sun night so you might have to wait. There is also al fresco dining in the summer. Finally, if you need to drive they have Valet parking which is clutch!

Been here several times and it's kind of fading. Went here today because dekes wasn't open yet. The food is kind of ok I guess, I feel like this place needs a change

Came here to meet up with my ex-wife to exchange some paperwork w/o the presence and pressure of an attorney. Hadn't been before. Super nice vibe -- great relaxed atmosphere, feels like a ski lodge kinda place. Very warm. Had some wings and a hamburger -- both top notch. I would recommend The Ugly Moose to anyone looking to navigate the separated-to-divorce aspect of their married life. Definitely kept tensions down, even though there's still a lot of regret and pain (on both sides, not just me).

Great place to go for a beer with friends, especially on Wednesdays for trivia night. However, food is nothing to rave about. Nothing terrible, but I would rather not spend the money. Has a lot for parking!

I heard about the Ugly Moose by word of mouth (don't think I ever would have found it otherwise). Its located several blocks up Main Street on Shurs Lane, entrance through a side street that opens into a courtyard shared with a barbecue restaurant. The restaurant building itself has no signage, but you will know that you are in the correct place with you go inside and see the giant moose head on the wall (lol). This place has a somewhat dive-y atmosphere, it is very dark, and it was cold inside the restaurant on the evening of our visit. This is the kind of place where I hesitate to use the bathroom, and fortunately there was no need so I can't tell whether it was clean or not. There were some random flies and gnats in the dining room. The service was very pleasant, and the selection of draft beers was interesting with an emphasis of IPA styles and seasonal pumpkin ales. We enjoyed the Founders Centennial IPA, it has lots of floral/hoppy aromas and is ery smooth and drinkable. Also tried the Southern Tier Pumpking Ale which was served in a tulip glass (8.6% ABV). This beer was very flavorful but more of a sipping beer, creamy and somewhat sweet with aroma of pumpkin pie spice. I think this beer would be excellent as a "dessert" beer but was not exactly what you would want to wash down a plate of wings with. Speaking of wings, we ordered a plate of the hot wings, which were flavored with a tasty spice rub, and had just the right amount of heat (I don't like food that is so spicy I can't taste anything else but pepper). The Ugly Moose has nightly specials, and as it was a Tuesday we took advantage of the 1/2 price salads and quesadillas to round out our meal. The quesadillas were fine, I really liked the "Kirkland" salad which included a giant pile of spinach, lots of smoky bacon, crisp apple slices, a large glob of goat cheese and dressed with cider vinaigrette. It was really delicious and when they say the salads are "Jumbo" they aren't lying, This salad could be shared as a first course among 3-4 people. As it was the 2 of us only managed to eat about half of it. The prices here are very moderate, and the specials made it a very good value. Overall an enjoyable meal, excellent beer, and I would return.

One of my favorite places for dinner in manayunk - makes you feel like your in the mountains not manayunk. Order the Adirondack (filet tip sandwich), because it's the best thing on the menu!!! They have weekly specials, crowded during games.

Good place with parking.Had a great burger even if it took a little long it was worth it.The waiter was so nice and took my glass of wine off the bill for the wait.Cozy decor with wood burning stove.Like!

Poutine was good, more authentic Canadian I prefer the American version. Burger was pretty dam good. Waiter had a little attitude and somehow I happened to spot a mouse but it happens not a big deal. I enjoyed my meal

Being from Western PA I'm picky about my wings. The Ugly Moose does not disappoint; meaty, good quality wings and a handful of delicious sauces to choose from ("Regular" and "John's Sauce" are my favorite). And even better, these awesome wings are half-priced on Sundays. There always seems to be some sort of beer on special - typically a $3 domestic and every so often we're happy to find $4 craft beer specials. If you need to drive, the large lot with FREE parking is great, and street parking is usually not an issue. Service is fast and friendly. They typically don't open until late afternoon-ish which is disappointing on that Saturday afternoon when you may need a big, reasonably priced meal and perhaps an afternoon beer, but it's definitely worth the wait!

The Ugly Moose is a nice little spot, tucked away from all the hustle and bustle of Main Street. We came here in search for a delicious burger, close to home. We've been know to drive out to the Fall Taproom when in need of a nice, comforting burger, but we decided to try out The Ugly Moose since it was right up the street. The meal turned out to be delicious! We started out with the Perogies and the Crab Dip. Both were nice portions and were super tasty. The Perogies came from the Perogie Kitchen over on Rox Ave & Henry Ave. The Crab Dip was nice and meaty and was accompanied by delicious bread and chips. Once it was burger time, I got the Bleu and Onion burger and my lady got the Cheddar Bacon Burger. Both were cooked to perfection and were wonderfully delicious. They even came with some delicious beer battered fries on the side. This place looks like a great spot to come and watch a game. They have a nice big bar, and plenty of TV's, so you can watch the game from anywhere in the restaurant. They also have a big selection of Craft Beers. My only gripe was the sort of slow service, but they only had 2 people on staff and one of those people was in training, so in reality they had one server for the whole restaurant, so he was running around like a mad man. Not his fault, but you'd think they would staff correctly on a Football Sunday during dinner rush. Regardless, we will be back for sure. Venture up Shurs Lane and try this gem. Don't miss the signs for the restaurant tough, because it's tucked away in a back parking lot....

Hidden away from the madness of main street Manayunk up Shurs lane, it took me two years of living in Manayunk before I found the Ugly Moose (right before I moved to Center City). But a great discovery it was. Every month or two I come back to order the Adirondack Filet, which is one of the most incredible sandwiches I've ever had... I wish that Philadelphia was associated with this sandwich rather than the lowly cheesesteak, way more tourism comin our way. Anyway it's chopped Filet Mignon on a roll with cheese and peppercorn dressing, really good, just get it. The rest of the menu is solid as well, but when I've ordered something other than the Filet I've wished I hadn't ventured away. If I had to pick my 2nd favorite thing on the menu... it's the wings, some of my favorite wings in Philly. Great beer selection as well it's always changing and is always a nice variety.

Had a serious wing craving Sunday afternoon. Asked a friend for any recommendations in Manayunk area, he suggested Ugly Moose. When I called they asked how many wings I wanted, I seriously assessed my hunger and firmly said "20." "You can get 6, 13, or 25" -- Alrighty then, 25 it is. He asked how hot? I said - not too hot. When I went to pick up the wings there was a bit of a mixup so it was going to be a few minutes since they had to put the order in again. I took a seat at the bar, ordered a beer, and watched the Eagles score a touchdown. I looked around to assess the atmosphere. It's really cozy and a very adirondack feel to the bar. They won major points by having a small parking lot which we all know is rare in Manayunk. Finally my wings arrived and I left to binge in the privacy of my own home. The wings were delicious. They are not your typical buffalo sauce drenched wing. There is some sort of special spice rub which I will call the moose rub. There was plenty of meat on the wings as well. And they are a nice mix, some have a bit of heat and others don't. Next time I will definitely get them a little hotter. Alright Mr. Ugly Moose, you won me over. We shall meet again.

Great food, great beer, service was friendly but slow. I had the crab cake sandwich, but I think the star of the menu is the filet sandwich. Definitely a hidden gem of Manayunk, tucked away on Shurs Ln.

Bout time to update my review of The Moose. I've lived around this place for years, and its consistently been a notch above the local neighborhood restaurant/bar. Recent (sort of) menu change has yielded a new assortment of specials. Monday night $20 app and two burger special is really nice. Paired with $3 - 20 oz Bud Lites during sporting events is great. Easy parking and a wood fired oven in the dining area are added perks to this very hidden gem.

Friendly staff (Mac, Mike and Kim will take good care of you!) Adirondack filet tips sandwich = off the hook! Wings are great and the weekly wing special is reason enough to go Live music featuring some great local talent FREE parking and valet when it's crowded Convenient location off of Shurs Lane and if you live on Main Street or anywhere near, it's a great incentive to get some exercise in while huffing up the hill to the Ugly Moose oasis! Great vibe, unpretentious, great for crowds, great for families, great for date night... all around great restaurant and watering hole in the Yunk.

Went there today on a Saturday. I had the Adirondack which is their centerpiece burger made of filet mignon. Really good. It's kind of different at first since you expect ground meat when you have a burger but the tender bites and excellent flavor just takes over. Served with onion rings and some veggies. Onion rings, also really good. Wife had blue cheese burger and she enjoyed it as well. All was cooked well and put together nicely. Our 3 year old had the nuggets and fries. It too was good and he ate it all, which is rare for him. Beer was cold, table was big and all was good. Bonus that a child meal is free on Saturday's with each paying adult. I do apologize to our waiter that long after we left, I realized that I miscalculated the tip and ended up giving a tip in the low teens instead of the high teens/20% I intended. I'll get you next time because we will be back. Good work Ugly Moose.

Ugly Moose is a Manayunk staple. It isnt your traditional Manayunk bar. You know the type, packed full of early 20 somethings, fighting to just get one beer. The Moose is a great place to go to enjoy a good meal and good beer. Beers....They typically will have many craft beers on tap. Usually a few brewed locally. Along with that they have a wide selection of bottles. Food... The food here is much better then your typical bar. They take some pride in it and have a wide variety. I myself dont have a signature go to dish but there is a wide selection so you shouldnt be hard pressed to find something good. Location.... The location here is a bit off the beaten path. This could be a good or bad thing depending on your view. It isnt surrounded by other bars and is instead surrounded in more of a neighborhood than anything else. Ultimately this is a great bar to go to if you are trying to get away from the normal run of the mill of Manayunk. If you are looking for a relaxing bite to eat with good beer, give this place a try.

I really want to like this place and I'm sort of right on the cusp. I've been here a few times now. I like the fact that it is not your typical too young Manayunk crowd. I like the fact that when I go here (or Deke's next door) I don't have to worry about parking because they have a private, off street lot that they offer with free valet during the busier times. The menu is maybe a little uninspired, boring bar food but gussied up to seem a little fancier than it is. I was told they do really good burgers so this is what I ordered. I asked for mine to be medium rare and it came out medium well. If anyone had come to check I would have told them so. Nobody did stop by so I ate my burger which was otherwise as advertised and reasonably tasty and formed a negative impression of the serving staff. The beer list is diverse and the waiter did have good knowledge of the choices. We came for Quizzo and for this I cannot recommend the place. The quizzo sound system was competing with the ambient music to the point where my team missed a few questions. The Quiz master did not repeat any of the questions. We also found some of the rounds silly. One round with no hints at all merely consisted of a sheet with a bunch of pictures for us to guess who they were. Another was 2 guest DJs playing songs. It was the second song before we even realized the round had started. Clearly our team lost miserably which affected the team of 4 with a combined IQ somewhere in the low 500s. Overall we had a decent, but not great night which is why I could only go 3 stars on this place.

Updating it....after living in the area for a year, it's the go-to spot for food and beer. Hands down the best neighborhood bar in the area. When you go to a bar, you want a vast variety of beer and drink selections and they'll make any drink you want and they rotate at least 10 if not more than 15 beers on tap and always have something different. You also want great bar food and there is no shortage of either. Their wings are my favorite in the area and the $3 Labatt cans never get old. They have specials every day of the week and no matter what day or night I go in there, it's never elbow to elbow and always a fun setting. Their wings are my favorite in the area, their burger is most excellent and the cheesesteak is better than both of those places on Henry. I always want to try the filet sandwich but I never get past the wings on the menu....it will happen soon. The ambiance is awesome. Think Canadian log cabin. Hands down, it's the place to go for excellent food and to try a beer you've never had before.

Because the games are on and when you walk in the first thing you see is a bar, most patrons just order "bar" food. --- The Ugly Moose has hidden gems in its entrees...fish n chips, Fat Daddy's Prison Shank Meatloaf, salads and specials are usually good and not disappointing. --- It's a good place to take the parents and watch the game is relative peace. --- Want to enjoy the outdoors, there is a deck, just out front.

Went here again with my bro after he and my boyfriend moved a couch into our new apartment. My brother got the chicken sandwich which he said was excellent ( there's a picture) and my boyf & I split 25 wings - which were pretty damn good - and they were half price due to the phillies game being on - so it was a win-win!! Good beer selection - they rotate a bunch of beers on tap and it's hard to beat half priced wings!!! Since we live right down the road it'll be a frequent stop - and I will consider it my duty to try new things and update my review! =) you're welcome, yelpers!

The Moose is a classic. It has a lot of advantages over the other Manayunk bars in that it is tucked away in the hills. It's a great spot with good bar food and a solid beer list. As far as bars are concerned, it's not really somewhere you could spend an entire night, but certainly a good place to grab a meal and a couple beers. This is where I bring anyone who has never been to Manayunk before. It's a great place to start the night.

One of our usual go to places. Wood burning stove and lodgey interior make it unique. Wings are awesome, especially on Sunday with the half price wing special. Good beer selection. Burgers are good too. Adirondack filet tip sandwich is the husband's favorite. Free valet is a plus for the area.

While in college this was a spot we would frequent knowing that we would always leave full and content with the amount of beers we had. Food wise - I always leave satisfied. The P & G Salad is one of my favorites, Veggie Burger is one of the better ones I've had. I've even ordered the nachos not fully reading the description and noticing the word "chili" next to nacho. Our server promptly took my order back to the kitchen and shortly later returned with chile-less nachos for me! Summertime is my favorite time to frequent, outside seating (limited) but being summer means there's no better excuse for a Blue Moon or a Hogaarden (buy a bottle of Frambois and turn the round into a couple Dirty Hoe's!). The ability to make large tables for groups or have a table feel intimate with just two people is great. The sports on TV let you catch the score of the game without turning into a distraction or making it feel like you're sitting in the middle of a sports bar. Occasionally, I've been lucky enough to come in on a night with live music! The Ugly Moose is offset from the street, keep an eye out for the large, red, overhead sign. There's valet parking on weekends, but try and find street parking first. Highly recommended to anyone not looking to bump into the 18-22 year olds on Main Street, most girls in heels won't venture up the hill we call Shurs Lane that far.

Cool atmosphere, decent food. I had the Lorraine Burger. The burger was tasty but the bun was a bit too dense. I ended up only eating half the bun. Prices are pretty good for Manayunk. The only parking is valet parking, and the place is kinda hidden if you've never been there before. I did notice inconsistencies in waitstaff. Our waiter told us specials, but when another table came in and sat next to us a different waiter told them there were no food specials. At first I thought it was just because of timing maybe, but then our same waiter seated a different table on the other side of us and offered them the food specials. Seems there is a lack of communication or training in the waitstaff.

i like this spot, the place has some charm and love the wood burning stove when they have that going. you step inside and you automatically forget you're in the city. service can be hit or miss depending on who is behind the bar, waiters are always good though. food is great, wings, sandwiches, burgers. decent specials too. i love taking my friends here who aren't from the area. in the fall they have a cornhole league up there and that's fun to play in and hang out with everyone.

Have been going here for years and I highly recommend it. The owner is a real nice guy and the people who work here are also nice.. Its a real nice cozy place and in the winter the fireplace going makes it feel like a real ski lodge inside, Now for the food and drink. All the food is very good but the real stars are the meat loaf, the Adirondack filet sandwich, the chicken cheesesteak, burgers and the Tuesday night all you can eat king crab legs special. The bar is attractive and there are enough TVs there to watch all the big games. There is an excellent group of beers on tap and there are some real good specials on different nights of the week.. Free parking in the courtyard is wonderful. The service for food can be sometimes be a little slow so if you are not rushed its a good thing.. In fact, I am going tonight for the all you can eat crab legs and the Stella Artois beer special and to watch the Eagles on Tuesday Night Football.

One of the best hidden secrets the Manayunk food scene has to offer. I've frequented this place many time when i was back living in gold old 'yunk'. I say the same thing each time I go, great food, phenominal draft list, and one of the best cozy places to grab a bite and a beer on a cold winter day. The atmosphere , although calm and quiet, is one of a kind. After a few IPAs you totally forget your right outside the big city of Philadelphia. This past Sunday however was a unique and unpleasant experience. We waited a solid 15-20 mins before being sat. Now i will get this out of the way and say the wait time was not any fault of the lone girl tending the bar, seating tables and waiting each table, it wasn't even the fault of the kitchen but the managers/owners whom had one girl performing 3 jobs on a Sunday afternoon. I will say that the one thing the jack of all trades barmaid could have improved on was being straight with us on the wait. We were told the table was being cleaned as the spray bottle and rag sat on the table waiting some hardworking hands for 20 minutes. After being sat I asked nicely if she could be honest and let us know if the food would take awhile as it was obvious things weren't running as smoothly as possible. Her reponse was of course no she was not caught up. This right there really threw me off. She could have been honest and let us know there was going to be a bit of a longer wait and then consequently avoided this very drawn out and negative review. To make a long story short, the chili was cold the food was hard (although warm) from sitting under the heat lamps for an hour and i am still waiting on a slice of lemon for my water (requested within minutes of being sat). All in all, good establishment but i was severely let down by my 1 hr and 45 minute "lunch".

I keep coming back here because the food is really good. But I've had enough of the service, which leaves much too be desired. It's just always so slow. Our last night in our waitress took forever to take our order, even standing by the computer system to catch a few seconds of the game and then proceeding to chat up another staff member by the bar before we finally had to wave her back over. Took about 20 minutes, which is ridiculous. Oh and my Stella glass, smelled and tasted like it was washed in perfume. Gross. Food: B++ Service C-/D

Parking is aplenty, there's a valet, went downhill from there. Atmosphere is chill, literally and figuratively, it's FREEZING in here (yeah I'm here right now, that's how I feel about it). Especially in the women's room which is seemingly another structure. Food was good once I got mine, they "lost my ticket", my food came when everyone else was done eating and there was no compensation at all. Waiter inattentive, meh. Not going back.

One of my favorite dine-ins in Manayunk/Roxborough. Great food and friendly staff. Great atmosphere and they have a big bar crowd for sporting events. A little dark, but otherwise casual, cosy, and delicious.

The food here is pretty good, if a bit pricy for a bar. There are good deals on weeknights though. And the tap list is usually great. Good atmosphere in the bar area. I live in the area and it's a staple for a quick drink or two or to watch a game.

Great food, great atmosphere, usually not too crowded. They have a dip that is really great there. (Wish I could remember which one it is!) I have been here quite a few times and the service is always good, not too pricey for good food, and I've never had a problem getting a table.

By far... The best restaurant in Manayunk! I like their food, and the set-up is very comfortable especially during the winter. I always have fun here. We once had a homecoming party of about 15 or 20 here and they were able to accommodate and serve everyone timely. their service is definitely good and it is a great place to watch sports.

Tried this place last night, mostly because I'd heard about their buy 1, get 1 1/2 off burger deal, and it's close by my house. I was actually mostly disappointed here, especially considering the super enthusiastic reviews this place gets. Laid back space, with a ski lodge feel. We sat at the bar so we could scope out the beer selection, which was definitely the best thing about the Ugly Moose. Not your typical well-rounded craft beer selection, I noticed there was a lot of seasonality - rich stouts, porters, and winter warmers. They also had about 20-30 really unique bottled beers available. I ended up having a Southern Tier 2xIPA and a Duck Rabbit Baltic Porter, which was delicious. I wish I could say the same about the food - I got the crab dip, after reading that it was 'amazing,' the boyfriend had a burger. Both were lackluster. Burger was a frozen patty. Crab dip was served in a tiny bowl, and tasted mostly like cream cheese, not much flavor at all. It was served with tortilla chips and a loaf of bread, which was neither warm nor the right texture for such a creamy dip. Towards the end of our meal, it started to fill up with eager Quizzo participants. Seemed like a pretty young crowd, definitely heavy on the frat boy type. We got out of there as quickly as we could, as people had started to get pushy at the bar. Overall, not a great experience.

Everything on this menu is delicious, including their desserts. They've got plenty of drinks to choose from, and the atmosphere is large and cozy at the same time. It has parking, which is definitely a perk. The only complaint I have is I went there once with a friend and we had to sit at the bar because there was some kind of college event happening in the main room and the bartender was quite engrossed in taking care of his friends that were at the bar. He was drinking with them and totally ignoring us/acting inconvenienced by us. It was pretty rude and if the food wasn't so good it would have put me off from coming back again. This place is definitely worth a look!

Ugly moose is a restaurant bar in Manayunk area. Next door is Deke's BBQ, a semi-outdoor / garage bar. I think they have the same owner. Went to Ugly Moose for dinner - the Adirondack sandwich was off the hook. Onion rings were a pleasant surprise too. Solid beer list as well. I've heard good things about Deke's next door, so I'll check that out as well.

Went here totally on the Yelp reviews and could not have been happier. I had my Daddy take me here, I am 1 yr old, while Mommy was on a vacation and the staff was great, the food was really good and best of all, within a 5 minute walk. This will be the restaurant of choice especially when Mommy returns cause it is family friendly while feeling like your in a neighborhood place.

The Ugly Moose is one of those places that is so comfortable to be in. People are friendly if you are sitting at the bar enjoying a game. The bartenders and wait staff are friendly and accommodating. The owner is a decent guy who had an unfortunate incident with a bear trap a few years back. There is free valet parking in their lot, which for any bar is an amazing amenity! You will always find the soccer channel on at least one TV, but not usually the main one. We live in the area and go there a couple times a month to watch sports or hang out after a softball game, so I have tried a lot of the food. I think the restaurant has some amazing bar food--burgers that are cooked perfectly and wings that are huge! There is a nice variety of salads there too, but I wish there was a turkey burger to compliment the regular burgers and some guacamole for the nachos and quesadillas. The beer selection is top-notch with a rotating variety--you will almost always find something from Yards, Magic Hat and Rogue with Guinness or similar, Hoegarden and of course the standard Bud Light in nice, big 20oz glasses.

The food is absolutely amazing and the beer choices are always wonderful. If you want a great mixed drink, go on a friday evening with Kurth bar-tending, he's amazing. My husband and I have been going here for 4 years and it is defiantly the best place to be when you want a nice bar/restaurant without the Main street atmosphere. The service is always great, grant it years prior they had some slow wait staff but that has changed. You don't wait much longer than you would at a big chain restaurant. The staff are always very pleasant, willing to offer suggestions and make accommodation to your needs/ wants. This is the place to be!

What a great place tucked away in the hills of Manayunk/Roxborough. Me and a friend stumbled on this place by accident while strolling around the neighborhood. Great waiters, nice decor, incredible food (ya that USA burger is the bomb!!!). I would definitely hit this place up as an alternative to all the other Manayunk pubs. Better crowd and ambiance.

The food and atmosphere are great here. I've not been for the late-night scene, but for happy hours and dinner it's always a good choice. I have loved everything I've ever eaten here. They're also willing to accommodate special requests. The crab dip is delicious, as is a Caesar salad with grilled fish! Yum! The bartenders (mostly) are great and attentive and talkative. You can also meet some really nice regulars who are usually willing to chat. I wish they'd have more drink options/specials though - then I'd be there more often for happy hour!
