I've come here twice now and bought the original turkey sandwich with onions both times. While the turkey is very juicy and the bread is very good, it's a little too pricey. The sandwich is $8.25!!! I only come here when I feel like treating myself. If you're in the Reading Terminal area, I would recommend giving it a try but just know it's pricey.

Best turkey club bacon sandwich I had ever eaten!! The turkey was juicy, fresh, tender and most of all moist. The bacon complimented very well with the turkey. I wish I could've had a second stomach to consume another one on rye. It came with chips and a drink for under 8 bucks!!! I will be back again!

This place reminds me of a Boston Market if they actually cared about the quality of their food. The turkey is moist and flavorful. The stuffing did not seem to be homemade but it was still yummy. Corn, veggies, etc... all great! Gravy was a nice touch and not too salty or starchy. One small word to the wise: do not eat the dinner sandwich for lunch break and then attempt to go back to work!!! It was far too big and made me pass out at my desk. Maybe this is why they called it a "dinner" sandwich. I think it was meant to be shared between two people. I will be back here often!

Let me begin by saying that turkey is one of my least favorite meats. Sure, I'll eat it at Thanksgiving and Christmas, but otherwise I tend to avoid it. Almost always it is either too dry (in the case of roasted turkey) or too salty (in the case of cold cuts) for my taste. That being said, during a recent trip to Reading Terminal Market, I happened to catch a glimpse of what looked like the freshest, juiciest turkeys I had ever seen. Deciding to throw caution to the wind, I ordered a turkey Reuben with a side of mashed potatoes. Note that their "Reuben" is more of a Rachel in that it substitutes coleslaw for the sauerkraut. Coleslaw being one of my least favorite foods, I decided to substitute tomatoes instead. All things considered, this was one of the best meals I have had in a while. Ingredients tasted very fresh, everything had great flavor, and the turkey was thick cut and so moist. I also thought they provided a good amount of food for the money ($8 for a good-sized sandwich, mashed potatoes, gravy, and pickles). My girlfriend ordered the Stuffin' Cranberry (turkey, cranberry sauce, and stuffing) and likewise enjoyed it. I will be sure to return the next time I visit Philly. If all turkey was this good, I'd celebrate Thanksgiving everyday!

Wow, that there was one heck of a turkey sandwich.

Another gem in the Reading Terminal Market. Before I begin I have to say the hustle and bustle of the market always made me uneasy prior to visiting for the first time. Now I can't get enough. There is just so much going on. I often thought everyone there must be a true local. This is not the case; it is loaded with tourists who came a lot further than me to grab a guilty pleasure of a meal. So on my last visit I ordered the Spring Garden sandwich, and my friend ordered the Turkey Reuben. We ended up trading each other half of our sandwiches because we argued with each other which one was better. This place rocks. I was so impressed with the food. It was the best turkey sandwich ever. I think the Turkey Reuben actually was better, but don't tell my friend, I hate it when they know they are right. If you are in town for a convention, or if you have regular business in the city, put this landmark of an eatery on your list to try along with my other pics. I really do think that there are more good eateries per square foot in the Reading Terminal Market than anywhere else in the city.

Turkey cranberry is a great low fat option - tons of protein and flavor from the cranberry sauce. I also like the sour kick from their fresh artisan rye bread. 8.25$ is a bit pricey, but the quality is worth it. And if you check in on yelp you get a free drink sooo you can think of it as getting a great sandwich for like 7$~~ I think most would be content with a lunch this good for under 10$

Best turkey sandwiches in the city! They have delicious turkey sandwich and wrap specialties and you can create your own if you wish. They also have turkey platters and different sides to pick from. I usually order the specialties they have for the day and they have never let me down. The meat is very fresh and tasty and once you have a turkey sandwich here you can't enjoy it anywhere else! They get really busy at lunch time but the line goes pretty quickly. Tip: check in on Yelp they have an offer for a free drink with a sandwich!

Always love the "Thanksgiving" sandwich here. Once brought a friend who hates turkey, and SHE loved it!

I am a terrible foodie. With all the amazing places to try in Reading Market, I went back to The Original Turkey today for lunch for the second day in a row. And I ordered the same exact thing. Look - there's nothing special about this. If you get the 2-side platter, it's a typical Thanksgiving meal. I got turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, and it came with gravy and cranberry sauce. The meal TOTALLY transports you to Thanksgiving. I think the reason why I like it so much is because this meal is a once a year thing. It's special. And The Original Turkey has made it accessible for every day eating. No fifth star because just like most Turkey-day meals, nothing they served me was anything beyond ordinary. Sure, the meal provides an experience- nostalgia - and that's why they get the 4th star. But my sides... just plain. But I still liked it. The star on the plate was... DUH, the Turkey! Yum! If I lived here, I would eat at the Original Turkey every day until I got tired of it. Luckily they have a couple of great menu items (turkey, stuffing, and cranberry sandwich? Yeah!) that I'd love to try. It's worth a visit!

I LOVE the original turkey!! I always get the gobbler with gravy & stuffing, yum. They slice a massive slab o' turkey into thin slices and pile it on your plate, drizzled in flavorful gravy and atop some amazing stuffing. The turkey is always fresh! Tastes better than my family's Thanksgiving cooking to be completely honest. Workers are always nice too even when it is busy. I should probably something aside from the gobbler but it is just too good ;)

I am going to be candid and talk turkey; Like birds of a feather, my bf and I decided to both have lunch at this vendor within RTM. We watched with eagle eye precision as the men behind the counter freshly prepared the delicious looking turkey meal combinations. The carving station was a neat touch! The many options for sides (stuffing, veggies, cranberry sauce, mac n cheese, etc) looked amazing! We then figured that we needed to get our ducks in a row and decide which menu items to order. I had the "Stuffin' Cranberry" sandwich (turkey, cranberry sauce, and stuffing) with a side of mashed potatoes and gravy. The bf had the Reuben, also with a side of mash. We didn't peck, but gobbled up our yummy meals! At little over $8 per sandwich+side - I'd consider it to be on the pricey end, but nothing to squawk over. My feathers weren't ruffled. I'm willing to splurge in the city from time to time. As a result, I've developed a habit and (when in Philly again) will START going to this place more often, HOT turkey!

Well, I flat out love this place! Was in Philly for several days for a conference and I ate at The Original Turkey three times - no shame in my game! I love turkey but it is rare to find good turkey outside of the home- cooked Thanksgiving turkey. I went straight up turkey, dressing and corn and was not disappointed. Turkey was super moist, corn was deliciously buttery and the dressing was just like Mom makes. Am sad to leave Philly and The Original Turkey!

I came at lunch hour and the service wasn't that great. Asked for turkey salad I was given a bowl of turkey. When I started eating it I found a long nasty hair. I just threw the rest of it away.

This is hands down my favorite place in the market. The turkey rueben (8.50) is one of my top five sandwiches that I've ever eaten in my life, and after living in Philly for two years, and eating this sandwich probably over 20 times, I'm STILL not tired of it. The people there are very nice and quick, and they never mind giving me a big cup of iced water. I recommend this place to everyone that asks where to go in the overwhelming maze that is Reading Terminal. You cannot go wrong with this sandwich!

Had a really good turkey Reuben or lunch. The turkey was juicy, tender and hd a lot of flavor. The bread was toasty and warm, and the cole slaw and Russian dressing the perfect accompaniment.

This is my review of The Capital Grille, but since I mentioned The Original Turkey, I will reprint it here and give you guys 5 stars... It pains me to write this review because I've had some good experiences at The Capital Grille. Their steaks are awesome. I never had a bad steak there. And so I thought that my experience for Thanksgiving Day dinner would be same. How wrong I was! For something like $38.95 per person, my partner and I were promised a turkey meal with all the trimmings (mashed potatoes, stuffing, cranberry sauce, and green beans). Our dinners arrived and I immediately noticed that my turkey was too dry. I asked the server for more gravy. He nodded and walked off and then the manager returned to our table to apologize and told him to get me a new plate. The second plate had a lot more gravy on the turkey, which helped a little, but it was still dry. When you pay a premium price for turkey, you expect moist, succulent turkey, the kind that you cannot make yourself because you don't have access to the kinds of ovens and kitchen equipment that The Capital Grille has. You expect perfection. This meal was far from perfect. We were so distraught with the meal that a couple of days later, we went to The Original Turkey in the Reading Terminal Market and had the turkey dinner sandwich there. The sad thing is the turkey at The Original Turkey was so much better than The Capital Grille's turkey... and at 1/4 the price! Big kudos to The Original Turkey. Whatever you did with your turkey, please show The Capital Grille how to prepare theirs.

Pretty good for a turkey sandwich. The stuffing isn't my mom's but is good for lunch.

I enjoyed a very good "Stuffin" sandwich here yesterday! This included turkey, cranberry and stuffing on whole wheat. You really cannot go wrong with that combo. I even checked in on Yelp and got my free drink! My only critique is that I expected a warm sandwich and it was actually cold. That threw me off a lot. I would have enjoyed it a lot more if it was warm and maybe served with a side of gravy for dipping!

For the GF's go-to work lunch, she typically heads to The Original Turkey, which I've never had the pleasure of trying. So on a recent weeknight, she decided to pick up a few turkey reubens for dinner - essentially her go-to sandwich. Turkey Reuben ($8.50) Turkey, Swiss, Russian dressing, Cole slaw Takeout for dinner was apparently not as good as during lunch. Still, I enjoyed the flavors and quality ingredients. The thick-cut roasted turkey was moist and the cole slaw was nicely creamy with bite. The sandwich could have done with an extra dousing of Russian dressing or another dollop of the cole slaw. The Swiss was also lost in the mix. As per the GF, apparently during lunch, the sandwich is overflowing. I would definitely hit up The Original Turkey the next time I'm at Reading Terminal. I'd imagine any of their turkey platters or stuffing would be on point as well.

I got turkey plate with mashed potatoes. All come with huge serving of cranberry sauce. I felt the turkey tasted a bit salty, probably saline injection. Certainly better than other restaurants, but not like carving off the whole bird at home. Same with potatoes. I'd rate this 1 star up from Boston Market. I did like the massive amount of what tasted like canned cranberry sauce from my childhood.

I came all the way to Philadelphia to have a thanksgiving meal? I sure did and I would do it again! My Asian-American family doesn't do thanksgiving the traditional American way so it leaves me with a void deep in my stomach. When I first walked by this place I saw the big piece of cooked turkey waiting to get in my belly but I resisted. There's no way it could be good, I thought to myself. I left without trying it and thought about it that night as I was looking at yelp. After reading all the reviews, I decided I couldn't go another day without having a turkey plate. I am so glad I went back because the turkey was succulent and moist. The sides all looked good so I tried the mac n cheese, bell peppers & onions, and the turkey stuffing. Everything was great. It wasn't out of this world good but it's a decently affordable non-holiday holiday meal.

Very, very good food. I am not much of a turkey lover, but every single item I had from here was delicious. The sandwiches are the best part of this place. They are so well arranged and meticulously created, and as someone who loves to cook, I appreciate that. For instance, when I had the Reuben, not only was the cole slaw fresh and the turkey was moist, but the bread was also fresh and dry. That is hard to pull off because the bread in most Reuben sandwiches tends to get soggy due to the cole slaw. The stuffing is decently tasty -- nothing special, but moist and nice. The mashed potatoes are the only negative -- they are definitely from a box. Taste like that synthetic stuff they have at KFC and Boston Market. No thanks.

You would be hard pressed to find a comparable turkey sandwich in the area. I take everyone who visits to the reading terminal, and highly recommend this place. The turkey is melt in your mouth good, and combined with either the thanksgiving toppings (stuffing and cranberry) or simply lettuce and honey mustard it is to die for. Plus, they are cheap and quick, so you can avoid waiting in line for a long amount of time.

My go to spot for lunch. I love that I can always get a half sandwich..which even by itself is super filling --They pile on the turkey! I love all of their sandwiches, but my faves are definitely the turkey reuben and the turkey salad sandwich. The turkey here is super juicy and absolutely delish! This is not your average turkey sandwich! Also- the line moves super fast, so don't let that keep you from eating here!

This place is freaking good. It's like Thanksgiving every day at The Original Turkey. They have awesome Turkey plates with good sides and some banging sandwiches, all for a great price. I got a platter with three sides for about $10. I mean, really, where do you get a great meal for $10 these days. At this The Original Turkey, that's where! The Turkey and gravy were yummy, though I could have used more gravy. The mashed potatoes were just right. The stuffing was pretty good. Cranberry sauce was done well. The veggies were veggies. I was a little mad that they were out of mac n cheese. It was my number one side, and it was out. Man. Boo. Whatever. Good meal though.

Was excited because of all the good yelp reviews. I was super disappointed. I ordered the turkey leg, corn and spinach. The turkey leg was bone dry and the corn tasted like it was out of a can. The spinach was quite good. The turkey must have sat too long under a heat lamp or something. Bummed.

Went here for 1 of only 2 lunches I was going to have in Philly and I was not disappointed!! I got the "dinner sandwich" which is turkey, stuffing, gravy, cranberry, and MASHED POTATOES- yes you read that right!- on a sub roll. I got it sans cranberry bc I'm not a huge fan, and it was seriously one of the best sandwiches I've ever had. The turkey is so juicy and tender! And you watch them slice it up as you wait! Service was great and the price was pretty reasonable. 11 bucks for a sandwich and bottle of water. Would come again and will definitely recommend!!

My wifey ordered a smoked Turkey leg and it was one of the best turkey legs ever. When we visit again we will be stopping here for her Turkey leg. The guys behind the counter were really helpful. This is a must stop if you like your smoked turkey legs.

What's up, turkey? Oh you're up in the club? I've enjoyed a turkey club from The Original Turkey, and I'd do it again. I'd do it again, my friend. The bird's not dry! Based on some stolen bites of "the special," with Russian dressing, I could go that way too. But I really am a turkey club person. Sometime, if you want a nice real turkey sandwich for yourself, see about the OG Turkey. Lunchie!

1.) Introduction: This past Saturday evening I needed someplace to grab dinner that I could bring back to my hotel and relax before my first marathon bright and early Sunday morning. I am not big in to having a big pasta meal before races and had actually been having turkey sandwiches before my long runs throughout my training this fall. This fit all my criteria AND was one of the few places still open at 5pm when we arrived. 2.) Aesthetics: After walking around aimlessly for a bit (should have looked at a map they have posted at the ends of each row) I finally found The Original Turkey. Clean and bright with the carving table and hot table of sides behind plex-glass for passers by to gaze upon. Menu board is clean and straightforward. There were three employees working when I arrived - one to carve the turkey, one to put your meal together and one working the cash register. 3.) Service: For 5pm on a Saturday evening (they closed at 6pm) the staff was very friendly/helpful. Did not feel rushed and the line moved quickly. 4.) Food: They have a variety of sandwiches, combo meals and dinners (turkey with sides that include collard greens, stuffing, corn and mac and cheese). However I was here for a straightforward turkey sandwich since I have learned the hard way not to try anything new the night before the race (and it was VERY hard as the mac and cheese was defiantly calling my name). Be warned that if you don't get there early they will run out of certain varieties of bread - I really wanted a hoagie roll but they ran out *insert sad face* - so I opted for the white bread (very rare for me). I got a turkey sandwich with lettuce and tomato, no cheese with spicy brown mustard. Yes - pretty simple, standard and possibly boring (especially when the have a sandwich with turkey, stuffing and cranberry sauce on it) but sometimes that is the best way to judge a sandwich. Be warned this is not a place for toppings galore - the star of the show is the turkey and what a turkey sandwich it was. Moist and flavorful - just what this runner needed. Also - they do not toast their bread so make sure you don't let it sit for a while before you eat it. Luckily the white bread is pretty solid with some bite and they put the turkey between the lettuce which gives it a bit of a shield, but not much. Also - they do offer honey mustard. I did not get it on the sandwich but got some on the side and OMG - so good. I ended up dipping part of my sandwich in it. Definitely try this sauce, you won't be disappointed. 5.) Impressions: Good solid sandwich - it worked wonders for me and helped me rock my marathon the next morning! In a City where cheese steak and hot roast beef sandwiches are king, this was an oasis for someone looking for something on the lighter side that still tasted indulgent. *Special Shout out to Anthony P. for use of his great Review format :)

OMG! Have you ever been given food and thought about asking that person to marry you? I got the bacon turkey sandwich and it was the best thing I've eaten in a long time. Also if you like them on yelp they will send you a yelp deal. That is very cool. This place is just good bottom line!

I had a turkey sandwich on what bread and it was to die for. The bread was soft and fresh and the turkey was most and juicy. .I was very impressed!

I absolutely love this place! The portions are huge I rarely get to finish a whole sandwich in one seating. The turkey is juicy and fresh my favorite is the Turkey Salad Sandwich. Every bite is just fulfilling...definitely try this place when your in the city!!! Also, the staff is very nice and the line moves pretty fast so don't let the long lines intimidate you ;)

Pre-determined combinations are available, but you can also build your own masterpiece around the central theme of turkey. The hoagie option is only $1 more for a considerably bigger portion than the already-generous normal sandwiches. The turkey is fresh and delicious and the sandwiches travel well if you want to take them for a picnic in the city.

When I visit Philadelphia I always try to go to the Reading Terminal Market and my favorite place there is The Original Turkey where it is always the day after Thanksgiving. Turkey Stuffing!

Hand-carved, big chunks of hearty, juicy hot turkey. What's not to love??? My staple order: the Club. All that turkey goodness in between artisan bread, with lettuce, tomatoes, and bacon. Bacon makes everything better. As does mayo, so I add a whole lot of that too. I'm now salivating... somebody get me one of those sandwiches!
(5)

The "special" sandwich from Original Turkey may be my favorite sandwich OF ALL TIME. It's a turkey, cole slaw, and special/russian style dressing sandwich. I eat it every time I go to Reading Terminal Market. The most difficult part of eating anywhere in Reading Terminal is finding a seat so you might be better off walking outside and sitting in the mini-stone plaza.
(5)
Jonathan P.
The club is one of the freshest clubs I've had from a sandwich shop, the fresh hand-carved turkey just takes every meal to another level. The bacon was so crispy and every ingredient tasted fresher than the last. The bread was delcious too, soft and thick slices just perfect for this sandwich. (It's not hard to find a great roll in Philly, but finding fresh-baked bread could be a challenge sometimes) The only thing that takes away from my experience is there was no middle slice of bread and nothing was toasted, which I think is key to a club sandwich. The customer service is so great here, I'm sure next time I stop by they would have no problem honoring my request to make this club sandwich even better.

Now, I'm not a turkey fan. I like it, but don't love it. I'm not like the dad on A Christmas Story: a turkey junkie. But we stopped at the Original Turkey yesterday for a late Sunday lunch and it was pretty freaking good. I got the King Whammy sandwich with fresh carved turkey breast, tomatoes, cheese and special sauce on toasted white bread. This is one instance where the advertised display accurately reflected the tasty meal provided. It was hot, delicious, fell apart in my messy hands and I loved it. My girl got the one side platter with carved turkey, mashed potatoes and gravy. The potatoes were real and not flakes. For quick food at Reading Terminal Market, this is about as good as it gets. Get that turkey and sleep happy.

AMAZING!! It's Thanksgiving here year round! The turkey is hand carved, juicy, and so delicious! I always get the platter with mashed potatoes, corn, and cranberry sauce on the side (plus a slice of bread). I always love to visit when I'm in Philly (especially when Thanksgiving seems so far away). The turkey is really moist..and sadly, I'm not sure if I've ever had turkey so good. Staff is friendly and helpful (considering the lines they get!) and the prices are really reasonable. I'd love to try their sandwiches, but it's really difficult to say no to the platters.

Long line move rather quickly. Fun to watch the lady carve the giant turkeys in front of you and hand it over to the guys making your sandwich! I really enjoyed the Thanksgiving wrap- though ask for only a small bit of the cranberry spread. The turkey itself is just perfect!

When I walked by and saw a girl carving a hot, juicy, roasted turkey, I started thinking about Thanksgiving, how far away it felt, and how delicious a big turkey meal would taste right about then. I pretty much stopped caring about the other food options at Reading Terminal and even though it was lunch hour and the line was long, I hopped in. Thankfully, the line moved quickly (it took a lot longer to find a place to sit afterwards). I ordered a one side platter for $9, which came with the oh-so-juicy carved turkey, cranberry sauce, creamy gravy, a thick slice of bread, and one side (I chose the stuffing). I could have eaten the whole platter (which was a lot of food), but I was thinking about the calories and gave my husband a generous sample. All that remained were a couple of lettuce leaves they'd added for color. I dropped a star because the cranberry sauce looked suspiciously like the canned variety, but it tasted fine. I would definitely go back for more, but perhaps at an off hour so I can actually sit and enjoy the food without other terminal patrons lurking like vultures for my seat.

Ok..I am a fan of Dinic's. My daughter wanted turkey. She had the florentine griller and i tried as well. It is excellent. Liked it so much we went back for another two days later.

I really like their Southwestern quesadilla for lunch. I don't get it all the time, only when I want to eat something from the market that is healthy and tasty. However, to me, I think it is a bit costly. I paid $13 for my meal, just the quesadilla, small side of corn (which didn't taste as good as homemade), and no drinks.

My very favorite place for a sandwich in Reading Terminal, just maybe my very favorite sandwich ever. What amazing sandwich you may ask? The TURKEY REUBEN. Ask for it with extra cole slaw on sour dough and enjoy. You will be thanking me.

I've been here twice now, and I can confidently say that the Stuffin' Cranberry is the bees knees. Freshly carved turkey, warm stuffing and sweet cranberry sauce. Delicious. If you come during peak lunch hours, expect a wait. If you come before they close, your bread might not be available. Keep these things in mind.
(5)
Shannon P.
The turkey here is super good. Moist (ew I hate that word), thick, and freshly cut off the bird. I have eaten here twice, and will probably go back, just don't think I'll order the same thing as last time. The classic turkey sandwich is a winner, but we (the boo and I) split one of their special sandwiches that they pressed on the panini. It had "special sauce" that was a secret until we saw the sandwich being made. It was ketchup. I mean the sandwich didn't taste horrible, but when you knew it was ketchup, you knew. And that sort of spoiled it. That said, I'm hardcore turkey & cheese...the boo wasn't a fan of their bacon, but other than that the place has a line for a reason.

Justin K.
There is not a ton to say about this place except they serve a darn good roasted turkey sandwich and platters. They keep it simple and offer and outstanding product. Of all the times I have been here, the consistency of the meal is always the same. I always get the turkey club pressed in the Panini grille. I have had the reuben in the past which was solid as well. The turkey is fresh roasted every day; none of that processed lunch meat crap here. They are reasonably priced for the amount of sandwich you get. One of these bad boys and you are set for a while. It is hard to come here when you have Dinic's just staring at you from the other side of the seating area, but trust me, this place is definitely a solid stop in the Market.

Becky G.
I'm a huge fan of this place, but only because it let's me have Thanksgiving dinner all year round. The price is a little steep though so its only for special treats or days when I just need to drown myself in carbs. I always get the two or three platter and they usually let me have the skin which is a HUGE bonus, you just have to ask. The turkey is so good. Just amazing. It really does make the entire place. The stuffing is eh, and the mashed potatoes and gravy are pretty good. Cranberry sauce is baannnggiinnnggg. Also, unless you want to wait two hours in line, only go when the market ISNT busy. This place draws a huge crowd. Everywhere in the market does, but if there's a convention or just lunch/dinner rush? You're gonna be waiting a while. The line goes slow so expect to wait.

Deep down I wanted to give this location 3 stars but, as of right now, I can't. DISCLAIMER: I did pick up the Stuffin' Cranberry (to go) around 5:45 PM (15 minutes before close). I was in Philly for the bar exam and I wanted to pick up a sandwich so I didn't have to run around for lunch the next day. I thought a turkey sandwich would be safe and was looking forward to the Stuff'in' Cranberry during my lunch break the next day. First, the staff was EXTREMELY helpful and this review in NO WAY reflects on their customer service. I asked if the sandwich would keep if I refrigerated it and reheated it the next day. They offered/suggested to pack up the sandwich separately so that I would be able to microwave it the next day (the stuffing, cranberry sauce, turkey and bread wrapped separately). My lunch break came and I was super excited to eat my sandwich. I nuked the stuffing and turkey and prepared to put my sandwich together. I don't know if it's bc I was rushing during my lunch break or if the sandwich lost its flavor by being refrigerated but I was very disappointed. So the sandwich itself was disappointing. The turkey, itself, however, was DELICIOUS. Still juicy, had great flavor and it was a nice chunk of turkey. I would love to try the Stuffin' Cranberry sandwich again and give it another try. This place could definitely be a 3.5-4 star place!

It is good but the Dutch Eating Place was closed and it wasn't as good as theirs. (at least the time I tried it) But it is good not dry! I would not hesitate to eat there again. The portions are generous and the price is reasonable.

Turkey Sandwiches are probably my favorite food...however, after trying the Turkey Club from The Original Turkey...I'd probably be more specific and say that is now my favorite. The Turkey itself is delicious...thick cuts, moist, and very flavorful. The bread is what makes the sandwich though. Its chewy and perfect for the thick cuts of turkey. The bacon is crisp and adds to it. I haven't tried another sandwich from there yet, but have been with someone who ordered the Turkey Special and now swears by it. Can't wait to go back

This place was excellent!!! I was just looking for a quick lunch on my last day visiting Philly, and it was the juicy, dripping turkeys being freshly carved that caught my attention. I've always loved a good turkey/stuffing/cranberry sauce sandwich, and this place did not disappoint. About $11 for a HUGE sub I actually got two meals out of, a soda, and a bag of chips. Not bad! The staff was very, very friendly, and they had a large variety of sandwiches and turkey plates with gravy, mac and cheese, etc. If you're sick of cheesesteaks, come here! Yum!!

The first thing that stands out about The Original Turkey is that a giant bird is being carved at all times. You are assured that you are getting real, fresh turkey. I have often passed by The Original Turkey in Reading Terminal, but it wasn't until I noticed they serve up a Thanksgiving sandwich, called the Stuffin' Cranberry, that my notice turned into desire.I chose rye bread for my sandwich, which was thickly cut and supported the hefty contents. The cranberry sauce was probably the canned kind, but sometimes thats just as satisfying than some gussied up, walnut -orange zested version. The stuffing was just a few notches above what comes in the Wawa Gobbler. But the turkey is of noticeably better quality. Plus they pile on the meat; the sandwich did not appear exceptionally large, but with the amount of good stuff packed in there, you will be approaching Thanksgiving-level full. While this is not going to compare to the giant juicy turkey my aunt lovingly roasts for me on Thanksgiving, the slices of white meat are a decent alternative to hold me over until I get to her place. For under $8, The Original Turkey offers the Thanksgiving experience in a sandwich all year round.

After walking through all of Reading Terminal Market nothing was really tickling my fancy... so fortunately I had the good sense to read Yelp and found this little gem. Amazingly friendly employees (and this was late in the day after many of the shops around them had already started cleaning up and hustling customers out!) and AMAZING turkey. Oh my gosh amazing. Succulent. Thick cut, juicy, all sorts of yummy! The cranberry sauce was great too. Wish I lived in Philly so I could come back here agin!

I've only been here once, but can't stop thinking about the next time I can go back. I had the Special, which is turkey, cole slaw and Russian dressing.

THE KING TURKEY IS AMAZING! I don't care how many calories are in it... it is SO SO GOOD! I stumbled upon this place wanting to avoid the long dinick's line...long story short... haven't been back to dinick's since.

This is strictly a turkey shop, but wow does it do turkey well. Of all the homemade Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners, along with the many other places I've eaten turkey, I don't think I've ever had anything quite like what they do here. It's the most succulent and juicy slices of turkey (and possibly of any kind of meat) that I've ever tasted. It just falls apart in your mouth, literally. The sides are fantastic as well - the mac and cheese is the real thing, the corn tastes like it is fresh of the cob and is a tinge sweet, and the mashed potatoes...well, they're mashed potatoes slathered with a whole lotta gravy on them. How can you go wrong? Even though I've been to Reading Terminal many times now, I've only been here once. I'll definitely be coming back whenever I'm back in Philly next.

The sandwiches here are amazing. I love the open-faced with gravy or the special with coleslaw and Russian dressing. If you're a fan of delicious roast turkey, this is the place. The slow-roasted meat is very fresh, tender and succulent, and that's what makes the difference between the sandwiches here and those at the deli.

The Turkey club is sooooo good. The Turkey is do moist and juicy it just melts in your mouth. You can go the Reading Terminal basically anytime of the year and have a full Thanksgiving dinner..they just have it all. Be sure to avoid weekends at the Reading Terminal, it gets filled up quick and you often have trouble just turning around.

Love this place. I needed something quick to take on the train with me, and a friend suggested finding something in the East Reading Terminal Market. There were SO many options in the market, but this one caught my eye because it looked like I could find something healthy and tasty--and I was not disappointed! The meat was tender and delicious, they didn't skimp on the cranberry, and the staff was so kind! Definitely a winner!

Starting off with the negative first... I do think all the sandwiches are a little overpriced. But man they're delicious. I've tried the stuffin cranberry which perfectly takes me back to post-thanksgiving meals but kicked up a notch here. And there are a bevy of daily special sandwiches which only give me more anxiety as they all look great. The customer service was friendly and my meal was given to me in just a couple minutes. Great job.

Great turkey club and awesome price. Only $6.50 for half a sandwich, chips and a drink!

You get your monies worth here. Turkey is rather tastey. The mashed potatoes were either instant or to much water added and green beans not cooked enough. I suggest getting one of their sandwiches.

I was at Reading Terminal the other day and decided to try a sandwich here. I was pleasantly surprised. I got the half sandwich combo, and it was the perfect amount. Not too small like I thought it might be. It was very affordable and I left quite satisfied. Yum!! I can't wait to go back again.

There's at least fifty places to grab lunch at Reading Terminal, and yet this is the place I keep coming back to every time. And I go to Reading Terminal probably two or three times a month. Enormous portions at a reasonable price. Excellent sups and sides and even the bread is pretty tasty. But really, the Original Turkey does - and must - live and die by the quality of its turkey, and this turkey is just phenomenal. In a place where the usual fare includes cheesesteaks, ribs, and shoo-fly pie, its nice to have an option that offers tons of taste with a little less saturated fat. So try it out the next time you're at the Terminal, you won't be disappointed.

Love this place. Staff is friendly and capable. Food is delicious and filling. I called a hoagie a wedge and rather than berate me, the staff inquired where I was from and remarked that now they'd know what new york people meant by a wedge. Great stuff.

It's one of the weirder parts of the Reading Terminal Market, and in a place that sells chocolate-covered onions that's saying something. But it's a different kind of weird, not just having a few quirky products. The Original Turkey offers a turkey dinner for lunch. Sure, they have sandwiches and soup and the like but I can get those anywhere. But here, for under twelve bucks, you can get turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, stuffing, cranberry sauce, and a drink. They throw in a slice of bread for good measure if you ask nicely. Their servings are huge; enough that the aforementioned platter will make both me and my girlfriend rather full by the time we finish. The food itself is not particularly exotic or fancy, it's simple, homestyle cooking, but that's probably why I love it. One of my favorite parts: they always manage to serve us quickly; even during busy hours there's not a long wait. Given that this is the RTM it often takes longer to find a free table than to actually get the food.

A great place for a basic (or not so basic) Turkey sammie. I love the turkey here - simple, tasty and not dry. (Thank the lord.) They offer alot of sides, too - but I usually just get the sandwich and then, if I am still hungry I head to Little Thai Market or Sang Kee for a small bite of something else.
(4)
David C.
Word to the wise, skip the sides. They are horrible and really a waste of money. However, the turkey itself is really terrific. The turkey is juicy and tender... served hot.... its excellent! There was a line but it moved quickly. If you are in the mood for some great turkey this is the spot... just do not eat the sides or it will ruin the overall experience.

We had amazing food all week in Philly but the Turkey sandwich (Italian on sourdough) from The Original Turkey was hands down the best!! Dinic's Roast pork right across had the long line and was good but skip the line and get the best at The Original Turkey! Nick makes a great sandwich!
(5)
Andrew S.
There's a line for a reason. Solid fresh turkey sandwiches. Wouldn't recommend the cran as it comes from a can but otherwise it is a nice option for reading terminal.
(4)
Amanda D.
I came to the terminal trying to eat a pork&broc rabe sandwich, but much to my chagrin, DiNics closed early and I had to eat elsewhere. your loss DiNics. This place has bangin stuffing. I am surrounded by a pool of saliva just thinking about it. Agreed on the c-berry sauce, clearly can style. So if i ever frolic back to this magical land of turkey, i'll probably buy a vat of turkey, a vat of stuffing and take it home to some good ole homemade cranberry sauce. complete with exploded cranberry pods.
(4)
BJ M.
Got the turkey - stuffing - cranberry sandwich. Tasted pretty good, though I think I actually prefer Wawa's gobbler when it is available. Size was not that big, though I appreciated being able to walk out of the market under my own power. Really not much to say. Would probably go to the rueben store next door next time I am in the mood for a sandwich.

Last week before attending a Philadelphia Phillies ballgame,I went to this nice establishment in the lively Reading Terminal Market. The turkey was delicious and the portion they gave me was very generous. The prices at this establishment are very reasonable. It closes at 6 PM on weekdays.

I went through the whole market trying to find a good place to eat. I picked this one because I saw the fresh turkey. I got the turkey sandwich with cranberry sauce and it was the best I ever had. They carve the slices of fresh turkey right when you order. It was so moist and juicy I wish they had this place in Seattle.

I had a stuffing cranberry turkey sandwich on sour bread. It was okay, but I've definitely had better. The flavors of each didn't really stand out too much.

Great place for a down-home turkey dinner. Turkey, gravy, sides and cranberry sauce. Nothing special, but they do it extremely well and aren't too pricey. This got me through my first, lonely Thanksgiving and Christmas in Philly!
(4)
Nicole B.
The people are nice, the food is good and there was no hell-ish line to wait in. No rules, you can get whatever you want and it's easy to order. I ended up with a half of a provolone cheese sandwich with some veggies and I loved it. I loved it bc it was just good. Just good food without a bunch of fanfare. Definitely going back.

The Original Turkey offers about a dozen different options all of which involve turkey. I've had the Sizzler (a sandwich w. cheese, hot peppers, lettuce, tomato), the Turkey Ruben, the sandwich with stuffing and cranberry, as well as the two side platter, which is great if you want a Thanksgiving meal at any time of the year. Everything here tastes good, especially the turkey, and they don't skimp on the meat in your sandwich. My only complaint about the sandwiches is that the bread is very thickly sliced and feels quite doughy when you bite into it. Generally, this place is busy and they really churns the orders out: I have experienced them getting my order wrong more than once (mayo, when I asked for no mayo; no cranberry when I did ask for it).

M C.
The Reuben is out of this world! It was so good I had to sign up to make sure I let everyone know that this place is not to be missed. My son ordered a platter with mac and stuffing which I thought he would never finish but he gobbled it all up. I also want to commend the staff because they were so friendly and patient while taking an order from my highly indecisive five year old. My only disappointment was that I did not get anything to take home. Will definitely come back again!
(5)
Cory S.
Pretty good turkey, cranberry, gravy, and stuffing. I got a wrap and am regretting it. I am sure it would have been a lot better on rye or another bread but I thought it would be too messy having all of those ingredients inside. The pickle was very good, nice and sour! I would give it more stars if there were more turkey on the wrap and if I had gotten a different bread. It is also a little pricey for lunch, mine was $8

good place for lunch. the turkey is very very good, not dry at all. I had the turkey sandwich with cranberry sauce---it was excellent. I would come back here again.

When you have the name of a food in your restaurant's name, you better be ridiculously awesome at making that food. The turkey here deserves top billing, no question about it. It is absolutely perfect. I know it sounds stupidly grandiose, but this is the best turkey I've ever had. I got the Stuffin' Cranberry, but I added the g because talkin' like that just ain't me. The sandwich was big enough to make 2 meals out of, and it was less than $9. The roll/loaf of bread it came on was almost as good as the turkey, too. It was fresh and soft, really excellent. The sandwich had a generous amount of everything on it, including a bunch of thick slices of hot turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes, and cranberry sauce. But it wasn't so overstuffed that it got all over the place. I know I can't eat a loaf of bread with like 8 pounds of Thanksgiving on it every day, but TOT makes me really want to.

First of all, the portions are huge. Second, the people at the booth are super nice. Third, the turkey is TO DIE FOR. It's basically what you wish your Thanksgiving turkey tasted like all around. The roasted turkey was very tender and not tough at all. Why the three stars then? I wasn't super impressed by the sides. The stuffing was pretty dry. The mac & cheese... was possibly worse than Kraft. It was just so dry and flavorless. I know, I know, it's been sitting under a heat lamp for hours but still. So, so bland. If you're here, just go for the greens instead as a side. DO get the cranberry sauce and gravy - so good with the turkey!

(5)Robyn E.

(5)Sarah L.
Turkey cranberry is a great low fat option - tons of protein and flavor from the cranberry sauce. I also like the sour kick from their fresh artisan rye bread. 8.25$ is a bit pricey, but the quality is worth it. And if you check in on yelp you get a free drink sooo you can think of it as getting a great sandwich for like 7$~~ I think most would be content with a lunch this good for under 10$
(4)Majlinda K.
(4)Michael C.
Always love the "Thanksgiving" sandwich here. Once brought a friend who hates turkey, and SHE loved it!
(4)Pam D.
(4)Colleen S.
I should probably something aside from the gobbler but it is just too good ;)
(5)Liz A.
(4)Kathy B.
(5)Selef S.
I came at lunch hour and the service wasn't that great. Asked for turkey salad I was given a bowl of turkey. When I started eating it I found a long nasty hair. I just threw the rest of it away.
(1)Rachel S.
(5)JiaJia T.
Had a really good turkey Reuben or lunch. The turkey was juicy, tender and hd a lot of flavor. The bread was toasty and warm, and the cole slaw and Russian dressing the perfect accompaniment.
(4)Clare D.
(5)Rico T.
Pretty good for a turkey sandwich. The stuffing isn't my mom's but is good for lunch.
(4)Mary Kate R.
(4)John K.
(4)Y F.
(3)Irene C.
(4)Foodie G.
No thanks.
(4)Debbie A.
(5)Helen Z.
(5)Lenny Z.
(4)Laurie K.
Was excited because of all the good yelp reviews. I was super disappointed. I ordered the turkey leg, corn and spinach. The turkey leg was bone dry and the corn tasted like it was out of a can. The spinach was quite good. The turkey must have sat too long under a heat lamp or something. Bummed.
(2)Marissa L.
(5)Katie P.
Best turkey I've ever eaten. It was flavorful and and extremely juicy, I've honestly never had turkey like this before... what magic are they conjuring up over there?!
(5)Ryan S.
My wifey ordered a smoked Turkey leg and it was one of the best turkey legs ever. When we visit again we will be stopping here for her Turkey leg. The guys behind the counter were really helpful. This is a must stop if you like your smoked turkey legs.
(5)Mike R.
My daughter got the famous dinner sandwich turkey, mash potatoes, cranberries, and stuffing all put together on a roll. It was Thanksgiving in July and delicious.
(5)Vince C.
This is my favorite place in the terminal. Their turkey is always incredibly fresh. Their sandwiches are served on amazing bread, and the turkey is freshly cut from the breast. I have never been disappointed with a meal here.

My favorite place to eat at the market! I go there every time on my lunch break. The staff is cooperative, patient, and super friendly. They always remember me!
(5)David C.
I'm not sure the turkey sandwich itself was the best but the turkey was unbelievably moist and delicious.
(4)Kathleen D.

(3)Susan S.
I loved the place. I got the" leftover turkey dinner" sandwich and it was so delicious. It knocked my socks off. Friendly staff.
(5)Tikeira R.
OMG! Have you ever been given food and thought about asking that person to marry you? I got the bacon turkey sandwich and it was the best thing I've eaten in a long time. Also if you like them on yelp they will send you a yelp deal. That is very cool. This place is just good bottom line!
(5)Andrea F.
I had a turkey sandwich on what bread and it was to die for. The bread was soft and fresh and the turkey was most and juicy. .I was very impressed!
(5)Cindy N.
I absolutely love this place! The portions are huge I rarely get to finish a whole sandwich in one seating. The turkey is juicy and fresh my favorite is the Turkey Salad Sandwich. Every bite is just fulfilling...definitely try this place when your in the city!!! Also, the staff is very nice and the line moves pretty fast so don't let the long lines intimidate you ;)
(5)Kristin W.
(4)Lisa O.
When I visit Philadelphia I always try to go to the Reading Terminal Market and my favorite place there is The Original Turkey where it is always the day after Thanksgiving. Turkey Stuffing!
(5)Lulu X.
(5)Danielle D.
(5)Jonathan P.
(4)Michele M.
The turkey sandwich with stuffing and cranberries is the best! I keep ordering it every time lol. very good sandwich!
(5)Chuck L.
(4)Carmen C.
(4)Jillian B.
Long line move rather quickly. Fun to watch the lady carve the giant turkeys in front of you and hand it over to the guys making your sandwich! I really enjoyed the Thanksgiving wrap- though ask for only a small bit of the cranberry spread. The turkey itself is just perfect!
(5)Olivia R.
(4)Sydney S.
AMAZING! Great portion size, and so delicious.
(5)David A.
Ok..I am a fan of Dinic's. My daughter wanted turkey. She had the florentine griller and i tried as well. It is excellent. Liked it so much we went back for another two days later.
(5)Jeanny C.
(3)Paige C.
My very favorite place for a sandwich in Reading Terminal, just maybe my very favorite sandwich ever. What amazing sandwich you may ask? The TURKEY REUBEN. Ask for it with extra cole slaw on sour dough and enjoy. You will be thanking me.
(5)Nick B.
(5)Shannon P.
(4)Justin K.
(4)Becky G.
(4)Grace L.
(2)Erica M.
Their turkey is delish! Last time I was here I got a wrap with turkey, pepper jack cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion and honey mustard. It was great! A bit pricey in my mind, but definitely yummy!
(4)Pinky And The B.
It is good but the Dutch Eating Place was closed and it wasn't as good as theirs. (at least the time I tried it) But it is good not dry! I would not hesitate to eat there again. The portions are generous and the price is reasonable.
(3)Jenn V.
Can't wait to go back
(5)Tony L.
Had the turkey sizzler. Spicy and delicious!
(4)Amanda S.
Yum!!
(5)Jamie S.
(4)Alissa B.
(5)Paul A.
I've only been here once, but can't stop thinking about the next time I can go back. I had the Special, which is turkey, cole slaw and Russian dressing.
(5)Susan L.
Reuben. That is all.
(5)C K.
THE KING TURKEY IS AMAZING! I don't care how many calories are in it... it is SO SO GOOD! I stumbled upon this place wanting to avoid the long dinick's line...long story short... haven't been back to dinick's since.
(5)Asuka N.
(5)Danan R.
(4)m M.
(5)Whitney H.
(4)Jose A.
Great job.
(4)Annie L.
Great turkey club and awesome price. Only $6.50 for half a sandwich, chips and a drink!
(5)Starrlina S.
You get your monies worth here. Turkey is rather tastey. The mashed potatoes were either instant or to much water added and green beans not cooked enough. I suggest getting one of their sandwiches.
(4)Marissa R.
(5)Nick B.
(5)S W.
What an awesome lunch spot. Best turkey sandwich I've ever had.
(5)Banana R.
Love this place. Staff is friendly and capable. Food is delicious and filling. I called a hoagie a wedge and rather than berate me, the staff inquired where I was from and remarked that now they'd know what new york people meant by a wedge. Great stuff.
(5)Gordon D.
(5)B B.
Soporific sandwiches....sometimes closes until next bird is done. Always tastes good.
(3)Karen F.
(4)David C.
(4)Rochelle N.
We had amazing food all week in Philly but the Turkey sandwich (Italian on sourdough) from The Original Turkey was hands down the best!! Dinic's Roast pork right across had the long line and was good but skip the line and get the best at The Original Turkey! Nick makes a great sandwich!
(5)Andrew S.
There's a line for a reason. Solid fresh turkey sandwiches. Wouldn't recommend the cran as it comes from a can but otherwise it is a nice option for reading terminal.
(4)Amanda D.
(4)BJ M.
(3)Darish S.
Great slow roasted turkey. Stuffing is quite tasty. My favorite is the spinach.
(4)Barry I.
Last week before attending a Philadelphia Phillies ballgame,I went to this nice establishment in the lively Reading Terminal Market. The turkey was delicious and the portion they gave me was very generous. The prices at this establishment are very reasonable. It closes at 6 PM on weekdays.
(5)Kazuo O.
(5)Erin L.
I had a stuffing cranberry turkey sandwich on sour bread. It was okay, but I've definitely had better. The flavors of each didn't really stand out too much.
(3)D S.
Great place for a down-home turkey dinner. Turkey, gravy, sides and cranberry sauce. Nothing special, but they do it extremely well and aren't too pricey. This got me through my first, lonely Thanksgiving and Christmas in Philly!
(4)Nicole B.
(4)Mason R.
The bread used for the sandwiches is outstanding!
(4)Jeffrey B.
(4)M C.
(5)Cory S.
It is also a little pricey for lunch, mine was $8
(3)Reena H.
good place for lunch. the turkey is very very good, not dry at all. I had the turkey sandwich with cranberry sauce---it was excellent. I would come back here again.
(4)Adam E.
(5)Michelle T.
