Feel so fortunate that these caterers were referred to us. They were so accommodating as we had to pull an event for 140 guests together with very short notice. The food was excellent and the staff they sent were professional, kind, efficient and treated the guests so well. I would recommend these guys in a heartbeat. We spoke with Gil on the phone to coordinate--he was so helpful and the food was fresh, delicious and warm when served.

*** This review is for PTG Catering Only *** My husband and I booked a party at the Washie's Memorial Fire Hall and were told that we could bring in any caterer, but they have a preferred caterer- PTG Catering, owned by Gil Chavez. We decided to check out their food and then make our decision Tasting: We visited Gil's restaurant in Roxborough for the tasting. We found all the food to be really delicious and after talking to Gil, we found him to be very accomodating to our budget. I liked that he was willing to work with us on our price per person. We decided to book him for our event Month before the event: We got in touch with Gil and he was still willing to work with our budget. He was able to customize a package that allowed us to still have all our "must-haves"(linens, desserts) but also to eliminate things that we didn't want (a ton of appetizers). He also was super helpful in allowing us to pay the day-of for some guests who we didn't think would come (which they didn't). AND he threw in a few more appetizers, in addition to the ones we ordered! Day of: Gil and his team were great! The appetizers were ready to go right at the start of the party and he was right on time with both dinner and dessert. His team was super quick with getting all the guests through the buffet lines. As for the food, we got so many compliments on how good it was. We actually have a guest booking Gil for another party! We had a really good experience using PTG Catering for our event and highly recommend them!

My Best Friend had her wedding at Washies Fire Hall this past Sat and PTG did the catering. I was so very pleasantly surprised at the quality of the food. It was hot delicious the staff were amazing and I am now craving the hand made raviolis. Great Job. Highly recommend

This could just be the best restaraunt in the roxborough area, and that would be based on the taste of the food alone! Great little BYOB, food is as good as ANY of the hoidy toidy places on Main street if not better Absolutely delicious Portion sizes are good, and the prices arent bad at all One caveat... Parking SUCKS

Not impressed actually disappointed. I have had the food from here for years at catered events and it is the best. Just Christmas Eve the affair I was at was partially catered by them and was excellent. So why was last nights dinner lack luster? Do they have different chefs or even recipes? Not sure why my clams casino tasted burnt or my crab cake had too much full, but was not happy with my experience. I will go back because every one has a bad day. The service was only fair for what is trying to be an upscale restr.

Best restaurant in not only Roxborough but Philadelphia as well. I am so sad to see that it is closing in April of 2013. I will certainly miss the Chilean Sea Bass with Lobster sauce, New Zealand mussels, Lambchops, etc. Thank you for staying open as long as you did Gil. I hope to see you somewhere again!

My husband and I went to PTG recently for our biweekly date night, and had a great time. The place was slammed when we walked in at 7, but quieted down around 8:45 (perhaps because they don't seat people after 8:30?). Despite how crowded it was, and the fact that they were shortstaffted, the staff were attentive all evening long. Plates were taken away and new dishes brought out with perfect timing, from the bruschetta before we ordered through to the dessert. We went with the fixe prixe menu - tough to beat four courses for $30 - and it was very good. The calimari appetizer was a touch on the greasy side, but the marinara sauce was warm and delicious, and my husband's saffron risotto was to die for! Our salads were good, and the entrees were perfectly cooked and seasoned (salmon for me, lamb chops for him). Desserts - yummmmm! The waitress was super friendly throughout the evening, and didn't mind that we stayed until after 9. To summarize: Food = delicious and inexpensive Staff = good Atmosphere = a bit noisy, but nice BYO = super! Overall = love it! We will definitely be back

It's easy to miss this little place as its set back a little and not much of a sign. Found a coupon online for something like 20 or 25 off a purchase over 40 or more so thats why i went there. it was REALLY GOOD. a lot of fish on the menu which i didn't like but a lot of veal too. nice quaint little place...almost too quaint as it can get a little noisy if its busy with how intimate the setting is. i asked for another soda and the "busboy forgot to bring it out." i was a little upset b/c it took so long to get another drink but when i got the bill, the waitress had given me my dessert for free! all in all the food was just phenomenol and i cant wait to go back!

Soon to be a personal favorite. Great food; I had the stuffed veal, which was perfect! The escagot was phenominal also with a fresh, woodsy taste(in a good way). A must for anyone that likes good food in a good atmosphere!

My son and his family including 3 children 8 to 13 were in town overnight on a Sat. I called at the last minute and they accommodated us, even though when we got to the restaurant, there was a full house. I have eaten here before so knew the food was delicious. The service was excellent--very sweet to my grandkids--making sure we were happy with everything. We had the tuna carpaccio and mozzarella, basil&tomato for starters; then my son had the veal porterhouse (a special) and others had the chicken parm, gnocchi with wild mushrooms, ravioli and I had the best chicken marsala ever--and I am an afficionado of that dish. They have wonderful specials. Between Tuesday and Thursday, they have a prix fixe menu which I have sampled several times. Do yourself a favor and give it a try. My son, who now lives in Boston, said that he couldn't believe we now had such fine dining in Roxborough!

A lovely Italian gem about 7 or 8 minutes from Manayunk. It's one of those remote yet well reputed places I knew I would love after a 5 minute cruise through their website. The menu is impressive and very affordable. Tuesday through Thursday they offer a Prix Fix 4-course meal for $30! I ordered the butternut squash soup (special) to start off with. It was creamy and delicious and reminiscent of fall and Thanksgiving and pumpkin pie. Then came a simple and well done mixed green salad with a delicious berry vinagrette. I ordered the crabcakes for my third and main course. They were scrumptious - chock full of the GOOD lump crabmeat with very little filler, pan seared and seated in a lovely mustard beurre blanc. I would have preferred the crabcake without red peppers but the taste of the peppers did not overpower the crab like it sometimes can. The crabcake was served with a no-frills (boring) side of string beans and a baked potato. For dessert I ordered the peanut butter cake (which was really a peanut butter CHEESEcake) and I only ate about a third of it because it was very rich. Some of the other desserts I noticed around the restaurant looked large and sinful. This is a great place for a nice date if you are on a budget. The decor is understated and elegant. The prix fix menu offers many choices for the main course. It's BYO which is also convenient and budget friendly for those with a home wine collection.

PTG is one of my favorite local restaurants and byobs. From the outside this restaurant looks like a dive and for a couple years I thought it was only catering. Inside is nothing spectacular either and when its crowded it can be very loud, however it has a charming italian family feel and you'll often find that people at different tables will strike up conversations with each other. The food, however, makes up for the ambiance and the noise level! The food is excellent every time from the appetizers (mussels, caprese salad, antipasto), the pastas and the fish. Last time I went, I had a halibut on special and thinking about it still makes my mouth water.

Went to PTG last week with my in-laws for my husband's bday. It was my second time here. This is one of the few (and only) solid dining offerings in the Roxborough area. Hence why it's always busy. It's a smallish but intimate dining room with only about 12 tables. Despite the fact that it's busy, especially on the Saturday night we were there, the service is outstanding, always. It's like having your mother pouring your water, bringing you bread, asking if everything is ok. Very attentive but not annoying. I also appreciated the waitress accomodating our request to split two dishes between myself and my mother-in-law. That doesn't always happen at busy restaurants. The main courses are average (I'm very picky about Italian food and have had some mind-blowing experiences, so I'd rate this as "acceptable," and "good," but nothing out of the ordinary.) I had a decent eggplant parmagiana and shrimp in garlic & white wine sauce. My first time at PTG I do remember having a very nice mushroom and chicken pasta dish. The best part of this most recent meal hands down was the grilled vegetable salad I had as a starter. It was a delicious salad with beautifully grilled and delicious portabello mushrooms, eggplant and peppers in a wonderful balsamic vinagrette. Truly standout. Everyone was jealous of this salad. I had a bite of my husband's dessert - an apple strudel cheesecake. It was divine, so I'm sure the dessert menu is good. FYI: This is a BYOB. Also, parking is a challenge. If you don't find something on the street, you can, however, park in the dentist's office next door. But if you don't know that, you might be searching for a bit or eventually parking at the supermarket. We'll be back to PTG. It's a nice place to go for dinner.

I've been wanting to try this place for awhile and so happy I did. It's small but has a real home town feel to it. Waitstaff was super nice and you felt instantly welcomed which made for a relaxing atmosphere. The quality of food was excellent and portions were a generous size! After indulging in shrimp cocktail (which the shrimp were huge) I could barely fit in the entree which sent me home with a doggie bag. I definitely will be going back and highly recommend trying it and think you'll be back too!

What a surprise find in Roxborough of all places. Terrific Value. The decor is inviting and the food is excellent. The mushroom pasta for an appetizer or main course is heavenly. Their scallops are crisp on the outside and you'll sop up every drop of the creamy sauce. They've got plenty of meat, seafood and pasta dishes all very well prepared. I've eaten at PTG 7 or 8 times with various friends and family members and everyone goes back with their friends. This place is a true gem with a large and varied gourmet menu with interesting sauces. It's also a BYOB. Parking is easy on the street or behind or in front of the dental office next door. Center city dining in Roxborough for a whole lot less $ and top quality preparation.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
