Diabetics at Pizza Hut
Pizza is neither a great meal nor the worst for diabetes. All you need is some fact check and monitoring while ordering your pizza. Diabetics can opt for thin crust or skinny pizza at Pizza Hut and avoid the cheese topping to cut down on the excess fat and sodium. If you have diabetes, then ensure to check your portion size when you order a pizza. One or max. two slices are enough. You can also avoid meat if possible and go for wings as a meat option.
Foods to Avoid at Pizza Hut for Diabetics:
You must avoid Meat Lovers Pizza with Original Pan Crust as it contains over 1000mg sodium and will add 470 calories in your meal. You should also skip Super Supreme Pizza Large Original Pan Slice which is too high in sodium and fat. Chicken wings are often tempting but you must control and restrict yourself from ordering Traditional Honey BBQ Bone-in Wings as it can add up to your sugar levels if you eat too many. On average, a person orders or consumes six chicken wings pieces in a day.
Sides must be avoided at all costs especially if it's Bacon Cheddar Fries with Ranch Dipping Cup for its high sodium content. You must also avoid New York Style Cheesecake with Applesauce as dessert as one slice of this dessert item contains 86g sugar. Pizza Hut also offers other Italian dishes such as Pasta. However, you must skip Spaghetti with Meat Sauce and Meatballs and Garlic Bread as it is too high in sodium and sugar.

Pizza
Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.
Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.
Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.
Italian Cuisine
The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.
Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.
If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

I've been to Vetri pizza twice and loved it both times! They have community style long tables so you get to sit next to other guests and groups. The pizza is made fresh and the style is thinner (softer) than most places. Sit right by the bar area and you can see the chefs make the pizzas right in front of you. There is a beautiful fire oven and you can watch your meal being prepared. The special slices are a tad small for 1 person so I would order more or the regular sizes to share. The arugula salad with potatoes and olives is one of the best I've ever had!! A must try if you're looking for a healthy addition to your visit.

3.5 stars: docked .5 star for not really being filling for a ~$15 pizza. They use very thin crust and little ingredients, so don't expect to be full up to your belly after this meal. The experience: 3 stars. Walked in and stood at the door for 2 minutes before we were appropriately directed to self seating. Not a good start considering they have over 10 employees just standing around. However, decor is pretty awesome. But hey, gotta give them a chance right? Service: 5 stars. Hostess gave us choice of sparkling or still. Server made his rounds often and checked in a couple times to ask how we liked the food. Taste: 4 stars. The bf got the marina pizza, it was good, but a tad more sauce and flavoring would be appreciated. His rating: "Meh, it's good but not worth the $12". His complaint: not filling. Good thing I am a small eater and we also got the tonno pizza. It's good, the tuna taste is a bit strong though. If they toned it down with either less tuna or another meat ti balance it out, that would be great. TLDR: 4 stars with .5 docked for not being filling

Really good pizza, nice staff. Prices ok. Salads are a little small and expensive for what they are. But can't go wrong with the pizza. Some of better pizza in area, not too big, thin, well seasoned and flavorful. Casual place with quasi communal seating, but is very manageable. Can be crowded at peak times. Worth checking out! Enjoy

Maybe it's sacrilegious that I'm posting this review on National Pizza Day, but I wasn't wowed by the pizza here during my first visit. I arrived to the restaurant first and was offered a communal table or the pizza counter. Decided on the table since my party could have the end portion. I didn't order a drink, but they did have a nice selection of craft beer. Their desserts also sounded interesting, so maybe one day I'll have to head back and try something other than pizza. But as for the actual pie? Ehhh. The quattro formaggi pizza wasn't *terrible.* It's not like it was burnt to a crisp or was some flappy dough. In fact, it appeared to be presented the way it was supposed to be -- and that's a bit unfortunate. I'm sure the gorgonzola, mozzarella, smoked provolone, and fontina cheeses that the establishment uses for the pie are top-notch, but I wasn't a fan. Maybe I'm just used to four cheese pizzas with ricotta on 'em. I don't know. I would not get it again. Also was told that the margherita was just okay. Kind of a bummer visit, overall.

Thiis some of the best pizza around. Perfect, delicate crust and tangy sauce - worth the gourmet price, imo. The only reason I give it four rather than five stars is they should have more piza topping options such as peppers.

Dining Partner and I came to Pizzeria Vetri on a Wednesday around 7:30pm. We were able to score seats at the pizza bar so we could stare at the man making the pizza. I would suggest this, especially if you try to make pizza at home on a regular basis and fail miserably at tossing and flattening it. We watched him make about 40 pizzas in the hour we sat there. I ordered the Quattro Formaggi (4 cheese, duh) and Dining Partner selected the Renato (mozzarella, rosemary, olive oil, sea salt). Both pizzas came out within 10 minutes of ordering and were very good. Nice casual dining experience.

Got the Crudo (prosciutto) but with a red sauce since Im not as wild about white pizza. It would have been the best pizza I have ever eaten except for the bottom of the pie crust which was very well done ... mostly black. At times I could taste burnt crust. Im not a fan of carcinogens in my food. That being said, the thinly sliced super tasty prosciutto and ricotta/mozerrella cheeses with a light and flavorful crust were DIVINE. Definitely not a place to dine in as its super small inside with only a few tables outside. Its a shame because they have wonderful beers on tap but I couldnt partake since I was getting take out. Only other thing was the price was a bit expensive. With tax it was about $20 for a small to medium sized pizza. Would eat here more often if it was a tad cheaper.

Pizzeria Vetri is a five star pizza joint. Casual atmosphere with great pizza and a very good beer menu as well. All of the pizzas are very creative but my favorite is the margherita pie. The square pie slices are also very good and they usually have two different types that rotate each time you come in. This is not a five star fine dining establishment like Vetris name sake restaurant, but if you're looking for a casual dining scene to grab some pizza it is e best in the city.
(5)Mike C.
Good gourmet pizza. A bit overpriced though. Had the margherita pizza, and it was solid. Beer selection is ok, but way overpriced. The pizza quality is on par with Nomad and others in this pizza-genre, although the place isn't nearly as cozy as either CC Nomad location (hey, it was a cold night). Given this style/quality pizza place is opening all over the city, I would never venture here from another 'hood. Also, not sure if I appreciate a place open for only for a few months, and carries it's own line of merchandise. Think highly of ourselves, do we?
(4)james c.
Excellent pizza, very thin crispy crust. Must eat fresh because the crust will get soggy. The sausage pan pizza is very good also. I would recommend the eggplant pizza and Margherita pizza. The cookie desert box has good selection and is very well executed.
(4)Daren P.
How does ANY pizza place not serve a pepperoni pizza? The pizzas they do serve are good, some more adventerous than others. Their salads are good too. But they don't serve the most popular pizza topping in America.
(3)Ellen T.
I REALLY wanted to love Pizzaria Vetri! The hype was there, and I love the type of food being offered, however when I tried it this past Saturday night I was sadly disappointed. I'm an Osteria lover, and expected the same if not a better experience, at this faster paced and more casual eatery. Disappointment #1: An hour and a half wait for 4 people. Disappointment #2: Salads and pizza came out quickly, but the pizza was cold. Disappointment #3: Price point was way too high for what we got. $120 before tip for 4 people, included two pizzas, two salads, one carafe of wine.

Besides for the classic cheese slice at Lorenzo's, Pizzeria Vetri would probably be my go-to pizza spot in Philly. I often crave pizza and after coming here a few times, I could probably eat here once a week, it's that good (and conveniently located next to my favorite taco spot!). Every night of the week is pretty busy, but the later you come, the easier it would probably be to get a seat. My friends and I came most recently on a Tuesday night around 9 and sat at the pizza counter. Beware that while sitting here you see EVERY pizza being made and will probably want ever single thing you see. Between 4 people, we shared a cesar salad (AMAZING, but we prob should've gotten more than 1), 3 pizzas, and dessert. For the pizzas we had the Crudo, the special of the day (duck and jam), and the Salcissia. They were all delicious and unique in their own way, but I just love the Crudo so much. I'm not a huge fan of red sauce though, so maybe I'm biased. For dessert, please do not pass up the fried dough. It's served with chocolate sauce or nutella. Might as well get a soft serve too. It's all just so good!!! Vetri never fails!

This place rocks! More figuratively than literal because as soon as I walked in, I was greeted by the sounds of really good hip hop music playing. The vibe is laid back and the decoration is chic. There is seating outside and two types of seating inside: communal and counter top. The counter has a small glass window so one can see the tattooed-artisans construct the pizzas. With that in mind, we decided to take a seat at the counter. A vegetarian would be right at home with the menu, because majority of the pizzas do not have meat as a topping. If you are looking for a pepperoni pizza, you're out of luck here. We decided to go with the Salsiccia, which consists of roasted fennel and fennel sausage. I ordered a glass of red wine to go with my pizza. As I sipped on my wine, I enjoyed watching the pizzas get made and shoved into roaring fire of the wood-burning oven. The pizza arrived looking delicious with the crust charred in a few places. You can tell the toppings are sourced from top-notch ingredients. The crust was thin and soft. I always have a soft spot for pizzas made in a wood-burning oven, and this pizza was no exception. All in all, I had a great pizza and a good experience.

Whoa... I'm impressed. I'm a pretty tough pizza critique and I was blown away. I had the renato pizza - it's a white pizza with mozzarella, rosemary and olive oil - the Rosemary was an excellent addition and very aromatic. The dough was great but if I could say one thing, I wish there was more cheese to dough. I sat at the pizza bar and could watch them making the pizza... that was a lot of fun. All the pizzas are 13inches. The staff is very friendly. They only have one bathroom stall so you may have to wait a few minutes. Excellent prices. I will definitely be back.

I really want to like this place. Don't get me wrong, the pizza is good. But is it worth the money? Meh. We ordered a Margherita pie and a spinach pie. Margherita seemed a little light on cheese, and the thin crust was soft, but a little too soft for my liking. Flavorful sauce, sure. But with so little cheese, it feels like I was eating a breadstick in sauce. The spinach pie was clearly the better pie. More cheese, strong flavors, all around good consistency. But to come here and pay the upper teens for what looks like 10-12" pie? Not sure that's worth it. Service was friendly, quite exceptional actually. Server engaged in conversation, joked around with us, checked up on us. Top notch service, almost TOO good for a pizza place, which is what I view this place as - nothing more, nothing less.
(3)Josh G.
This is a laid back pizza joint with several pizza options from which to choose. There are also a few salad choices but otherwise, if you're not into pizza, this place probably isn't for you. There are also a variety of wine, beer, and other drinks available. We really enjoyed our Melanzana pizza and sat at the counter so we saw them making it. The prices are a little steep depending on what you order but the pizza was good. It wasn't very busy when we were there and our server wasn't overly friendly or attentive. However, based on the food, I'd consider returning if I'm in the area.

I've been to Pizzeria Vetri a couple of times and have enjoyed my eating experiences there. The atmosphere is 'tight'... it's close quarters sitting inside. You have 'to get in where you fit in', as far as the inside seating goes. Seating is filled in at the larger tables where there's space. I have yet to sit outside. Though it's a smaller spot, the vibe is very chill. You'll see couples with young children, couples out on a casual date to groups of friends probably coming through to eat before really 'going out'. Both times I sat right up at the counter where they make the pizzas. Being the talkative type, I was able to ask questions to the fellas making the pizzas about which ones they were making at that moment. It helped with making our decisions as to what to eat. The Renato pizza is my fav.. surprisingly since this is a meatless pie (I love a sausage slice of pizza)... The Salsiccia is a very close second choice. The pizzas are 'compact' but are shareable.. you don't have to wait long for all this pizza goodness to arrive at your table. Or in my case, the counter! If hip hop... classic hip hop... is your thing, along with eating something better than an 'ordinary' slice of cheese pizza...this honestly may be the place for you! I know I was in heaven.. eating awesome artisan pizza, head nodding to classic hip hop songs in the background. Oh. and let me not forget, you can order a beer or wine with your pizza too.. Vetri's within a walkable distance from the local museums on the Parkway.. so this will definitely be on my list of go-to spots when I'm around the Art Museum area.

Let me see, hmmmm, "I've experienced better" (Yelp's "two star" description) at almost everywhere, including, but not limited to, other Vetri places. When I walked in, I actually liked the cafeteria style long tables, it made me feel like I was in for a NYC fine pizza experience. Even ordering an overpriced, lightweight, 500 ml carafe of their house Sangiovese made the anticipation climb...pizza and red, can't get better than that, right? We had the Heirloom tomato salad to start. I'd have to say the baby kale was tender and not bitter, with a nice balsamic reduction. The tomatoes were average in taste and the small ones, not the meaty heirloom tomatoes to which one may be accustomed. And the flatbread served with the salad was totally worthless, dry, stale, tough to chew. Then came the bubble buster, the friggin pizza. We ordered the Salsiccia (fennel sausage, roasted fennel, mozzarella and tomato sauce). If there was 3 oz of sausage on the entire pizza, I would be surprised. Other than a couple sprigs of fennel for decor, the roasted fennel was absent any taste, let alone a roasted flavor. The tomato sauce was nice and light. But the beautiful looking thin crust was soooooo soggy, you couldn't lift it up, it required a knife and a fork. Wet crust sucks!!!!!!!!! There is a way to avoid that from happening, serve it on a raised mesh screen, this will prevent the crust from steaming. I have no reason to return here. Now over at Osteria, they know what they're doing. ;-)

Awesome, awesome, awesome! Definitely the best pizza I've had in Philly. And I've tried alot. My boyfriend had the "Rotoli" and apparently it was the best tasting thing in the world! It had Mortadella cheese and prosciutto on the inside and topped with Postacchio Pesto! Light and yummy. He also had the calazone which was amazing! I had the Margarhita pizza- super fresh, cooked just right! And I tried the Rosemary Lemonade which I highly recommend. So refreshing. Great restaurant and perfect for sitting outside on a nice day!

Three of my girlfriends and I picked Pizzeria Vetri for this month's GNO, and we were not disappointed. The restaurant was actually a bit smaller than I expected but fortunately there was no wait for us to sit on a Tuesday evening. Seating is community-style at long tables. I loved that they already had the hot red pepper flakes and parmesan shakers on the tables. We started with salads, the wood oven and the arugula. I stuck mostly to the arugula (though I stole a slice of prosciutto from the wood oven salad - wise move), which was absolutely delish. It's topped with roasted potatoes, pesto and olives. So pretty much some of my favorite things on a plate right there. We reasoned that four girls should have four pizzas so we ordered the margherita (the best version I've had in a while), the quattro formaggi which may have been my least favorite though certainly tasty, the sausage and roasted fennel pizza which was very nice, and finally the melanzana with eggplant and stracciatella cheese, my hands-down favorite. Is it shameful that we had only one or two slices left when all was said and done? Maybe, but I have no regrets. Vetri does it again!

Some of the best pizza I have ever eaten. And I love pizza! The Renato (mozzarella, rosemary, olive oil and sea salt) was highly recommended by our waitress for good reason! Delicious! I also enjoyed sitting near the wood burning oven to watch the pizzas being baked. I may be forever spoiled and never want to lower myself to the standard of Papa Johns, Dominos, and the like again. :)

This is the hot spot for foodie families coming out of the franklin institute or Barnes Great pizza, tasty rotolo and the Nutella pizza impressed even the kids. Even with a glass of wine we were out if there for less than 100. It's small - so going at an off hour makes it easier to find seats. Can't imagine this place at 7 on a weekend night. Service was fast but we were not rushed. Will definitely go back.
(4)Christina O.
Can't wait to go back!
(5)Collin W.
Went last night, and it was just OK. First, it pretty small. Only about 10-12 counter seats by the oven/pizza dudes and 2 communal long tables with also 10-12 seats. Service was on point. Had the Renato and Salsiccia pies with the Wood Oven Salad. Everything just seemed like it was missing something. Nothing really stuck out and made me want to come back. The beer list was great, and reasonably priced.

Second visit and all my former downsides are no more! The margherita and salsiccia pizzas were both outstanding. I'd love to see a sausage with less fennel and more pepper, but that is just a personal preference. And, they fixed the wine problem I had on my earlier visit. They now have a very tasty red wine and the price has dropped to a very reasonable $8.50. I'm looking forward to a lot more pizzas at PV!

i stumbled upon this pizzeria as it's directly across from the Barnes Foundation. The pizza was so scrumptious, che delizioso! I dug in to a prosciutto secco slice with gorgonzola and had enough energy to sustain my epic museum visit and the rest of my evening errands. The crust was thick and flavorful. I loved that they were playing late 90's hip-hop and I would definitely recommend it.

The day will come when I can go to Vetri, however until then I'll be enjoying Pizzeria Vetri. I have to be honest, I think pizza is kind of over-hyped, maybe I'm just a really picker eater. However Pizzeria Vetri is one of the few places that really do it for me. We tried four of the pizzas a few weeks ago and they were all great. The seating is bench style, so you might end up next to complete strangers, but we met some really cool people. You HAVE to try the rotolo, it's out of this world!
(5)Shannon C.
Excellent pizza and exceptionally friendly staff. We had the margherita and prosciutto pizza, the prosciutto was our favorite. Very thin and crispy crust with quality ingredients. Lots of drink options. Simple dining with community seating.

Preface - I LOVE Pizza. So even when this place was under construction I already had my sights set on it. Finally was able to get there yesterday and let me tell you, it did not disappoint. I went on a Friday night and I was expecting a bit of a wait given that it is still the new hotspot, but to my surprise for my group of 4 the hostess said it would be a 15-20 minute wait and we were seated in about 10 minutes. Prompt seating = bonus. We sat around the kitchen bar counter and so got to enjoy watching them make pizza all night long. Ok on to the food. I read from other reviews that the ritolo was a must try and indeed it is a must try. They are relatively small so if you get two (which we did) its not a big deal. We got the crudo pizza and the margerita pizza. The pizza dough on both was perfect, a bit crispy but still chewy and full of flavor. We got the crudo pizza and the margerita pizza. The crudo pizza was our favorite out of the two. Its a bit bigger than a personal pizza, so perfect for two people to share. Then came the dessert, I was not expecting much from the dessert as this is a pizza place, but we ordered the fried dough and the cappacino soft serve ice cream. The ice cream blew us away. Perhaps the best ice cream we have ever had. One of the people in our group was lactose intolerant and even she said screw it and had some of the ice cream, it was that good. On a side note, toward the end of our dinner vetri came in and was talking to the various chefs and employees. Kind of cool to see him in the restaurant. Overall an awesome experience that lived up to our expectations and then some. Will definitely be making this a regular place.

nothing special about their pizza except prices. expect to pay more than double for small slice of mediocre pizza.

Wanted to try Pizzeria Vetri since it opened. We did so yesterday. Very Disappointed. Limited Menu. Ordered a Ceasar Salad (they make it with Escarole), and the Sausage Pizza. The pizza arrived with very little sausage (two pieces had none whatsoever). For $16 they could add some sausage. The sauce is good, but there is a lot of 'crust'. Half way through the pizza, we asked where our salad was and the waitress said it was coming. When it did, there was nothing flavorful or exceptional about it---the Ceasar dressing was lacking. The Escarole is a firm, harsher vegetable than the Romaine normally used for Ceasar salad. We didn't finish it. We ordered cappucino's. Mine arrived cool. She made me another. The Vanilla ice cream was good. I don't like to leave unsavory comments, but I feel it's necessary given all the publicity and hipe for this pizzeria. The fellow putting the pizzas in the oven looked like he was annoyed and he'd rather be somewhere else. The waitress was not attentive. The food (and I'm being kind) was mediocre. The wait staff seemed to be enjoying each other too much. If you want to experience a true Pizzeria and feel as though you are being catered to, go to Steven Starr's "Stella". The service is impeccable, the food exceptional (their pizzas put Vetri to shame); their Salads are so delicious) AND they are genuinely happy doing what they do---- it shows! Sorry Vetri Family, you missed the high mark on this one.

We'll I'm not a really big fan of fancy pizza like this. I got a pizza with no cheese and one with only cheese. I really wished I got one with both . We sat right in front of the oven watching them cook. I don't think they enjoy people watching them, I wouldn't. Our waiter was really slow and when he went to get a box for the rest of our pizza took forever and when we saw him he had to ask him for it. I guess he forgot about it. Then we ordered dessert which was the Nutella pizza. It tasted like Nutella and toast which wasn't very exciting but what else is there to expect. It's also supposed to have marshmallows on it but it barely had any. Overall I left unsatisfied.

Great pizza place in a bloated pizza city. Very clean and cool place. Pizza dough makes the pizza, and they do it right. So so good. Really cool open kitchen concept as well. Definitely a great spot to grab a delicious slice of authentic pizza.

If you are lucky enough to get a seat, then life is beautiful at Pizzeria Vetri. Heard about the long waits and decided that a snowy day after Valentines' would be the perfect time to strike. Lucky, got a front row seat at the marble viewing area next to the dough engineers. It's communal seating but you don't feel crunched in there. All meal I scrutinized these dudes and gotta say they did an awesome job. There were kids seated on the bar as well and we all shared in the wonder of the creation process. It's a special treat to root for your pizza being made (and talk to it, saying things like "argh soon you'll be in my belly!"). The decor is mostly white tiles, a big menu board, and a blow up picture of old italian men gesticulating wildly. I hope to be like those men some day. Before the pizzas were out, started with a well executed Arugula salad (pesto, small black pitted olives, cubes of Parmesan cheese). Ate my salad and watched the masters at work. Most of the pies have about 5 or 6 high quality ingredients, really top level choices. Marinara was leopard-y perfection with garlic slivers, salt, pepper, and oregano. No cheese and you didn't miss it (good for vegans, one would imagine). The dough is thin and crispy and with the olive oil almost tasted fried. Like my Grandma's zeppolas on xmas eve. (If you read this Grandma, I'm sorry!). The eggplant pie Melenzana was also outstanding with creamy burratta-like cheese (the menu calls it stracciatella). The red sauce was unbelievable, sound mound rocks the town. Unfortunately didn't have a chance to try the white pies like rosemary or quatro or the starter Rotolos both of which looked legendary, but that's another reason to go back. Pro tip we saw the nutella pizzas being made, it's something else. They put the dough in the oven with no toppings at all and it puffs up like a pita bread in record time. They slice that sucker in half lengthwise and combine a half jug of nutella with marshmellows, Cook it again and then powdered sugar on the top.. Holy moly... it's a giant wood-fired italian smore. This would be worth the trip to just do desert. Didn't have room to try it but looked legit. the whole operation was legit. Drinks included wine on tap, ibc root beer, imported sodas, canned microbrews and assorted desert booze like limoncello (not a full bar). It's location is ideal, in some what of a "za desert" north of Vine St, west of Broad. Convenient to the Barnes and Whole Foods. A short walk away from other museums and the Rocky statue. This is truly as good as it gets. We might just have a new number one in the city. Or at least another jewel in the growing collection of excellent Philly pizza places
(5)Denise S.
The pizza is amazing. The fried dough tasted like my childhood. The only reason it's getting 3 stars instead of 5 is because, our server, Pamela, showed little to no interest in actually doing her job. She would cruise by our table, note our empty glasses, then go stand behind the counter to chat with her co-workers. We had to ask to order drinks, our food, and dessert. We had to ask for refills. We had to ask to pay.
(3)Lauren C.
Outdoor seating was really great!! The pizza was a little burnt but good. The Nutella pizza, while interesting, had a layer of dough on the top which kind of ruined it. Also expensive!
(3)Larissa G.
Of course this place has good pizza. However, I called them on a Friday night around 9 to ask about wait time, and they told me that there wasn't a wait at all. Surprised, my boyfriend and I hopped on our bikes and headed over. When we got there, it was a 20 minute wait. I felt a little lied to, but oh well. We got a drink at the bar and awkwardly stood in everyone's way for the next 20 minutes. There is an awesome beer selection here, and we ended up getting seats watching the pizzas being made, which made me much happier than if we were at a community table. Honestly though, the pizza was probably on par with Bufad, and that place is quieter and does buy-one-get-one pizzas! We got the rotolo, a rosemary and sea salt pizza, and a wood fired salad, which was honestly the best thing we ordered. I would give this meal 4 stars except that the music they were playing was horribly unfitting and too loud. First the Beastie Boys followed by Dr. Dre? Keeping it classy, Vetri.
(3)Vincent F.
This was certainly a great place for thin pizzas however the offerings weren't of the gourmet type we'd expect from Vetri. These were more traditional. They were well made and it was fun, but not worth the trip up there from S. Philly where we live. I actually prefer Stella.
(3)Andy D.
My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our early dinner at Pizzeria Vetri this past Saturday night. We sat at the counter, watching the staff make the pizzas and chatting with the couple seated next to us. We split the Caesar salad (perfect) while I had the "Brooklyn" cocktail and she had a beer. We then had a slice of both offerings of the daily "al taglio" and split the Salsiccia pizza (all three were delicious). We finished with the cookie jar and soft serve ice cream with cappuccinos. There's no doubt we'll be back multiple times.
(5)Trisha G.
Avoid the Vetri hype! The pizza is good. $17 good? Nope. This place is being overrated. There are 2 wines. They were out of the white. I was stuck with the $33 half carafe (which they call a full carafe) of red. It yielded four 3 oz. glasses of what tasted like Franzia red. In fact, I'd rather have full pours of actual Franzia. The place is too cramped and loud. You're elbow to elbow with other diners and can hear every word of their conversation but can barely have your own without screaming. There are too many restaurants making good pizza today to deal with the lack of choice, poor atmosphere and expense of this place.
(2)Philly P.
Well the name calls for lot of attention Vetri, one of the pioneers of Philadelphia food culture, but sorry to say that this is just like any ordinary pizza joint. Don't mistake me, the food us amazing, but then very typical of any pizza place and that's why the 3 starts, nothing extraordinary "Vetru" standard, but the I guess every restaurant by this chef cannot be a top class. This is more like for the masses, though the price is slightly on the higher side..... I would say give it a shot, just for hmmmm curiosity, or to try anything from Vetri or just to sample the new food culture. Definitely give it a try for once but then that's about it, no second or repeat chances!!!! The Calzone is huge and to be shared, but if you are nota. Big fan of too much meat, them give it a skip and a little bland since we had ours with extra red pepper flakes and still found it not so spicy. The pizza al taglio was the star with amazing crust n broccoli rave, once again a little bland so keep the red pepper handy. We also tried the Rotolo - pizza dough, mortadella, ricotta, pistacchio pesto, which was good but heavy on the doughy part, so not that amazing. Like I said earlier okay for one try that is only if you have yet to come across a great pizza place and are still searching for that perfect pizza. Regular pizza that is just slightly heavy on your wallet!!!
(3)Joanna W.
Awesome pizza...the crust is perfect. It's light but it's crispy and a tiny bit of chew. The ingredients are all the best. Get the rotolo...it's like cinnamon bun shaped calzone bursting with flavor. omg.
(4)Ashley H.
Pizzeria Vetri was so very disappointing. I went on a Sunday night and we (luckily) got seated at the counter top closer to the door. The alternative is communal seating, which isn't a bad thing, when it is done well. Unfortunately for Vertri, the communal tables in the space (there are two) are awkward and cramped. We started our meal with the Rotolo - which was cold in the center, but tasty enough. I'm sure it would've been better if it was hot all the way through. I'm not sure that the $3.50 price tag is justified, though. I had the rosemary lemonade to drink ($3), it was alright. We opted for two pizzas, because one didn't look like it would be enough - the Crudo ($18) and Renato ($12). Unfortunately, again, we were served cold food - the globs of mozzarella cheese were literally ice cold on the Crudo. The prosciutto on the pizza was quite tasty, but, all in all, the $18 price is way too high. The Renato was fine enough, but nothing spectacular. Dessert wasn't a consideration for us. After all was said and done, our bill was $40 before tip. Service was just OK. I live around the corner from Pizzeria Beddia and, quite frankly, their pizza is hard to beat. I'll stick with Beddia and if I'm craving Neapolitan style pizza I'll make the trip to Nomad or Zavino - they're both more affordable and significantly better.
(1)Scott S.
The place is very nice, friendly staff, good atmosphere. I'm just not a fan of tiny, fancy pizza that costs $18.
(3)Vanessa K.
Amazing meal at Pizzeria Vetri. Pizzas are amazing (definitely as good as having one in Italy!) but don't miss the rotolo and the pizza al taglio if u want to get a real taste of Italy. Also loved the salads (both Caeser and the wood fired ones were delicious!)... Don't forget to finish your meal with one of the yummy soft serves!
(5)Jennifer T.
The Rotolo was out of this world. Everything about this place was amazing! The communal tables were cramped and I could barely hold a comfortable conversation, lack of space was the only downfall.
(4)Nick M.
As someone who thought that the pizza at Osteria was among the best in town, I was expecting a lot more of this place. The menu options are fairly limited, and the atmosphere is kind of weird. It feels like you're in a pizza-by-the-slice place designed by Starbucks and Stephen Starr. Honestly, it seems like Vetri is stretching himself a little too thin with this latest offering.
(2)Christian P.
It's no secret Vetri makes some killer pies. His pizza at Osteria was lauded in GQ as being amongst the best in the country a few years back. But at Osteria he was wowing with styles like the Lombarda, with baked egg and bitto cheese. Here he keeps it pretty simple but gets similar results. I had the Melanzana, which had crushed san Mariano tomatoes, baked eggplant, stracciatella curd cheese, and oregano. That's it. You can taste each ingredient equally. Nothing was too overpowering, and everything was fresh as can be. The star of the show was probably the crust -- light, crispy, and perfectly chewy. They churn 'em out fast, too: we probably got our pizza within 5-6 minutes after ordering. A little pricey but I'd say it's already in the top tier of Philly's best pies.
(4)Charles R.
Loved the sauce, very light. The pizza itself was that great crust, little burned on the edges with bubbles. The Wood Fired salad was excellent. Fresh snap peas, ramps, small bits of asparagus with shaved cheese and prosciutto. Nice presentation on the drinks. Very casual on the seating with the community tables, but there are also seats in front of the oven or over by the window. Pizza, salas and 2 ice teas came to $36, so it's a little pricey for pizza, but everything was fresh and light and would go back.
(4)Maurice S.
Started with a Rotolo and that was a good choice. These are really good. We had 2 pizzas: Crudo and Salsiccia. The Crudo was my favorite. The Salsiccia was a bit heavy on the fennel for my taste. Finished with the Fried Pizza Dough. Not sure that it is possible to go wrong with fried dough.
(4)Kerry A.
Checked this spot out with work colleagues due to its convenient location to our work (we could walk & leave cars in parking garage!). Pleasantly blown away! Sicilian slice with pancetta & vidalia onions was unbelievably airy & done perfectly. Shared an Italian Caesar salad -- little heavy on dressing but loved the anchovies! Splurged & got the sweet cream & cappuccino soft serve twist -- we all devoured this in minutes! Dining partners loved the assortment of Italian cookies (I was in gluten coma & could not do any more dough! Fell off my GF wagon for the night). Would so come back again! Get here early ... We did thankfully; was packed by 6p.
(4)Sara N.
The dough was just about perfect, but next time I'll know to ask for more tomato sauce and basil leaves when ordering the bare-boned margherita.
(4)A P.
Ingenious idea from the Vetri brothers. It is a great way to get fast service with fresher gourmet ingredients. I visited with a group of friends, and it was packed. We were able to get seats along the bar facing outside. The decor, music, and seating arrangements all tie this place together. Obviously the most important facet is the food. Fresh dough with few ingredients, reminds me of true italian pizza. Not the usual soggy, over cheesed slop you can get in any philly neighborhood. The pizzas were filling, but between 4 guys we were able to finish 3 pies and two rotollos. I would really like to give it my only drawbacks are the prices and portion sizes for the pies.
(4)Chris R.
Stopped last week after Zoo visit. around 2pm Ordered the Melanzana (san marzano tomatoes, eggplant, stracciatella cheese, oregano) and one of the day's slices that had a mildly spicy dry cured sausage slices on it. and the cookie jar dessert. Food Highlights: sausage portion of the slice and the crust of the Melanzana. If in the area would go again but try the Salsiccia... Waitresses were exceedingly friendly and accommodating even with our tired 16mo.
(4)Shannon P.
On Saturday the boo and I visited Pizzeria Vetri hoping to eat there before they ran out of dough for the second time in two days (eventually they did, but it was way late). We put our names in for seats and then strolled along Callowhill to check out the Granary and the new pet store, Unleashed. We were texted exactly 25 minutes after we put our names in (the exact estimated wait time) and got two seats at the marble pizza counter - watching pizza making is entertaining so our seats were prime time. Our order consisted of the arugula salad, rotolo, and the sausage pizza. Much of the friendly staff at Alla Spina were filling in shifts at Pizzeria Vetri, and it was nice to see familiar faces. Rotolo is a necessary venture. For only $3 you get a massive garlic knot stuffed with ricotta and prosciutto, heavily dusted with pistachio. I would like to get one massive pizza sized rotolo and feast on that. Our salad was also extremely good - Vetri doesn't skimp on cheese and I'm thankful - lightly tossed in dressing with warm fingerling potatoes and tiny kalamata type olives pits in. Finally our pizza arrived within the two minute cook time in their Renato 900 degree oven. Sliced and herbed right in front of us, it smelled what heaven for Italians must smell like. We also got two of the new Yard's brew from the board which rounded out our experience. Even though it's a bit pricey for a Yard's, the beer selection is on point. I so wish they had outside seating so we could bring our pooch, especially considering the pet store nearby. It might be an issue on that block as none of the restaurants have seating outdoors. The service was fantastic - managers dishing out new napkins for ones accidentally dropped on the floor - and talkative pizza chefs. We will definitely be returning for a casual savory date.
(5)Caitlin K.
I came here for dinner for my birthday a few weeks ago with my boyfriend. We ended up getting there around 8:30, and it was pretty packed, but we were able to get a couple of seats at the 'bar.' It's a small place but the overall vibe is cool, communal tables and open kitchen. We ordered two pizzas, the Margherita pizza and the sausage and fennel. Both were very good, but we both enjoyed the sausage and fennel more. It is a bit pricey for pizza, but what do you expect from Marc Vetri. The beer and wine selections were also a nice touch, but also a bit pricey.
(4)P. S.
Gourmet pizza, fresh ingredients, friendly polite service. Tight quarters for seating. Our second visit, and we'll be back again.
(4)M S.
Completely disappointed with their customer service. 8.5 month pregnant wife and they wouldn't even let me pre call to get on the wait list to eat...You have to run over first and get on the list...Yes, but who is going to walk my wife over...Well I guess you need to walk back and get her...really??? 8.5 mos and you can't accept a phone call knowing we wanted to come to your place. Give me a break. Marc, straighten them out. At least Sabrina's would accommodate us.
(1)Doug L.
The pizza here was ridiculously good. Had a won oven salad which is roasted beans and vegetables. If I came back I would order it again. If you love in philly you need to come. It is a small little shop, holds maybe 40 but I don't know why. Outstanding
(5)Zareen S.
After our recent many a letdowns associated with hyped up pizzas all over the city- we made a pact: while shopping at Whole Foods if there is a spot right outside of this joint-we'll park, walk-in, slam a beer or 6, eat a slice or two and kaput. THERE WAS A SPOT RIGHT OUTSIDE THE DOOR! No $h!t. Great news- bullfrog was on tap, Stillwater was on can. Who could stop us now? With heaps of food to go home to we started out with one of the two slices. It came with leeks, sopressata and the type of cheese escapes me, I think ricotta. Slice would be an understatement- its a huge square cut in two triangles and amidst sat generous petals of sopressata looking like a elegant rose. What we bit into after bickering weeks about "how orgasmic can this pizza be man?" turned to a godly experience. Man the flavors, the dough, the carbs and the goodness of cheese and the leeks! Ugh-so so good and I don't even care about pizza. The dough is light, airy, soft -painted with cheese that was not greasy at all but packed with leek goodness! I eat no porky but am smart enough to know that stuff tastes heavenly. So the inevitable happened and we ordered the other slice with garlic, spinach, mozzarella and parmesan I believe. Holy you know what! Even better- the garlic goodness and spinach cocooned in the gooey cheese. All the flavors and textures were in balance, cant wait to try the neopolitan style! Service was casual, fast and friendly and the tap list is seriously a blessing in such a place. Hence, we are now pizza converts.
(5)Erik W.
Awful! Typical Philly "hot spot" that appeals to hipsters and snobs that would rather have a "scene" than quality dining. We ordered several pizzas. They were thin with burnt crust and room temperature. Worst of all they were $15-16 a pop! Insane. I could stay in the suburbs and go to a mom & pop joint where real unpretentious folks go and get a pizza ten-times as good for half the cost! Plastic chairs and little to no atmosphere. The service wasn't bad and that was the high point! I hate that places like this can actually be successful. A total half-assed effort catered to mindless hipsters and wannabes that think it's cool to do the Philly thing for a few years. Real Philly people know where to get Pizza and Vetri ain't it!
(1)Judy L.
I was not impressed by the pizza here. The crust is decent and I ordered the marinara pizza with mozzarella added to it and it was nothing special. The marinara sauce is just normal, but the cheese was very delicious. We also ordered the fried pizza dough. It is fried dough with cinnamon sugar, so you can't go wrong, but it was also not anything special. Overall, quite disappointed. This it the third Vetri restaurant that I have been disappointed by.
(2)Kristin C.
Excellent! Low key environment. Menu includes pizza, a few salads, a few desserts, wine and beer. We went on Saturday after touring the museums and it was a wonderful surprise of a place. It's small and informal. Long tables, seat yourself at a long table or by the pizza bar and watch them make the pies. We sat at a table. It wasnt comfortable, per se, but we were there all of 40 minutes so it was fine. The pizza is all thin crust and SO good! We got the prosciutto salad and crudo pizza. The salad really didnt need dressing. I asked for dressing on the side and didn't need any of it. The corn and green beans added enough flavoring since they were already dressed in some sort of oil. The severs were all friendly. Prices reasonable. The pizza and salad was perfect for two. Good beer selection, too! Thanks!!
(5)Luyi D.
I was excited to try this place since I love the vetri places. Got takeout for lunch had a slice of the special pizza (leeks, sopressata, cheese, tomato sauce) and the rotolo. Unfortunately the pizza slice I got, the dough was still raw and the leeks were uncooked. It was not worth the $6.00 for the slice. Luckily the rotolo was really good and worth the $3.50. My husband had the vegetarian slice (tomato sauce and cheese) and he said that the dough was really good but isn't really worth $6.00. Not impressed and highly disappointed. Maybe it would have been different if we ate there.
(1)Edward A.
This place really knows how to make solid pizza. Not too often i to to a quick and easy pizza place and am blown away by every aspect id the pizza. Well done
(5)Shannon P.
The arugula salad with pesto was hands down the best salad I've had in my life. And if you're even considering the Nutella dessert pie, get it. You won't be disappointed. Also enjoyed the margherita pizza, especially the crust.
(5)Ashley O.
Had the magherita pizza, was underwhelmed. Overpriced for portion size, waiter was inattentive. Don't understand the hype of this place. Will not be back.
(2)Johanna B.
Very tasty! Stopped by on an unseasonably warm winter day and sat out side for a pizza and some conversation. Ordered the house special appetizer (Rotolo) which was warm, fresh and delicious. A great balance of savory flavors with mortadella, ricotta, and pistacchio pesto - described as a savory cinnamon bun. Ordered a spcial pizza of the day - prosciutto and thinly sliced onions with a garlic oil (white pizza). The crust was thin but pliable/chewy and just crisp enough to hold its toppings. Local place, which i love, with fresh ingredients. Great service, too. Definitely be back.
(4)Michael D.
We had a calzone and the margherita pizza. Both were delicious with a thin light crust. Service was excellent and incredibly fast. It will definitely become a regular stop.
(4)Gia D.
I live right behind pizzeria vetri and was really excited about it opening in such a convenient location. Unfortunately, I have to give one star for quality and customer service. I've dined here a few times and have thought the pizza was just under mediocre and way too pricey for what you get which is burnt flatbread pizza with little to no toppings. If you want something similar that is way better quality, go to Stella's...Steven Starr's gourmet pizzeria. Although I'm giving this is a negative rating and have mentioned I've dined here a few times, I wanted to give them a couple chances to see if anything improved given it's a fairly new restaurant. My last time eating here was last night getting take out and coming home to an almost inedible pizza completely burnt on the bottom...and cold. Meanwhile I live 2.2 seconds away behind the establishment. Too tired and hungry to go back and complain the same night, I went back today with pics of my half eaten burnt pizza. The manager/hostess (not sure what her position was) is extremely unfriendly and clearly doesn't care that a customer was dissatisfied with their $14 pizza. She looked at me like I had two heads, rolled her eyes and told me this is how their pizza is...sorry. No offer to refund me even after I said I wouldn't be dining there ever again. Great customer service Vetri!! I'll make sure to tell all my neighbors in my apt building and friends/family not to dine with you. Anyone looking for great quality pizza and good customer service, go to Stella's or Zavino! :-)
(1)Anna M.
The pizza was amazing. Got the 4 cheese one and the prosciutto one. Both were amazing. My husband is a meat water and enjoyed the prosciutto one over my 4 cheese. The dough was doughy on the inside and crunchy on the outside (just right)!! My husband is all about the crust at pizza places and this was his favorite. The rotolo was melt in your mouth good. The drink we got was the "americano" which was made up of vermouth. We would not get it again but we both drank it all. Service was great and everyone we sat next to was super nice.
(5)Steve C.
I think everyone is running on the fumes of serious hype and marketing on this place. I don't hate it, I'm not in love with it. When I get the bill I definitely loose any love that may have been in my heart for the place. It was close to $100 after tip for two pizzas, and two drinks each, for lunch. We didn't walk out stuffed, or drunk, either. I'm not basing this review on price at all. Obviously, this place is very busy, and others are satisfied with the price point. I love the location, the concept, the seating, and most of the feel. As usual, I reviewed the menu before going down, and I was excited. I was so happy to see the Tonno on the menu. I'm Italian. Growing up, tuna was in our pasta, pizza, and pretty much anything with a tomato sauce, especially at this time year. My friends, and in laws, have always been disgusted by this. Thanks to Mr. Vetri for incorporating this aspect into his pizza. I really feel he opened up a lot of peoples' eyes. I actually made a pizza with tuna a few months ago for a holiday gathering. I was blasted for committing such a terrible offense. I mentioned it was a traditional family recipe. At that point insults started being thrown at my family. I then told everyone about the Tonno at PV, and all of a sudden I was rockstar. They loved my pizza. They would have asked me to remove it from the residence immediately otherwise, let alone anyone actually tasting it. PV starts at 3 stars before I even set foot in the place, based on the redemption of tuna on pizza alone. The reason PV does not accel beyond those three stars is in the details. If you're shooting for an exceptional wood fired pizza these days, everything has to be beyond perfect. The crust is decent, it could have used more crispiness. It had the nice, flavor filled dots of char; but had no crisp at all. This was a real shame, because a slight crisp would have highlighted how light and airy it is. I really do think the sauce is excellent. It's still a sauce, but it has a fresh crushed tomato sweetness and a natural acidic byte. This is the secret to amazing pizza, along with the crust. The mozzarella was decent, kind of average. Overall, it has everything going for it to be a solid wood fired pizza, but falls flat on assembly. Notice I stated SOLID, not blowing my doors off in satisfying the three key factors. This is where the first offense occurs. Am I really supposed to be satisfied with two, sometimes three, inches of untopped crust on the edges? Granted the crust is good, but you're really cutting our pizza in half. Filling that outside rim with sauce and cheese doubles the area of actual pizza. Are they skimping on sauce and cheese? Does PV think it's appealing to a have 6" diameter area of actual pizza in the center of that field of crust? The second offense was a detail thing as well. I loved that the red pepper flakes and grated cheese were front and center. These are an absolute must for a great tasting pizza, and need to be applied by the eater in their preferred ratio. The red pepper flakes were excellent, as was the quality of the grated cheese. The problem was that it was impossible to get the cheese out of the shaker. Grated cheese shakers need to be rotated through the refrigerator constantly to keep the cheese dry enough to actually be usable. You can do the old school, Italian thing and unscrew the top before even checking if it's dry enough to be shaken, but it's still going to come out in huge balls. It shouldn't be this difficult. I love the selection of beer, and a huge plus for a good selection of cans. There's just something satisfying about a great beer that you can get get in a can, especially with pizza. I had a bottled, aged Brooklyn cocktail, and it was excellent. It definitely should have been for the price. Okay, I'm sorry. I'm going to back to cost again. It's pizza, served in kind of a traditional style pizza place. If a hoagiemouth pal offered to buy me lunch, and I took him here. He'd probably see the bill, knock my lights out on the walk home, and stop at Wawa for a shorti to stop his stomach from growling. The bathroom arrangement is also kind of bizarre. I grew up entering the Italian restaurant through the back door, saying hello to everyone in the kitchen. They've reversed this concept, where you get to meet everyone in the kitchen doing the walk of shame to the single sh--ter. Skimping on the lavatory seems to be a common theme for most new restaurants in the city. So I'm really not going to hold this against PV. Three stars for effort, but I'm probably not coming back. Most things are done right here, and done very well. Although, it claims to be a pizzeria. Which means the pizza had better be the performer. I'll make the drive to get a better wood fired pizza, for almost half the price, at DiMeo's in Andorra.

Pizzeria Vetri was so delicious! My daughter and I have been wanting to try for a while, but since they do not take reservations and we live outside of the city it's be tough. The hostess was very nice and welcoming, as was our waitress Madalyn. She was great with any questions we had and was super friendly, even giving us a complementary dessert. The ambiance of the restaurant was pretty casual, but comforting and lively with the music and wrap around bar in front of the pizza oven. As for our pizza order, we started off with the Melanzana pizza, which was amazing. The thin crust with tomato, eggplant, and stracciatella was a perfect combination! The pizzas are probably a little larger than your average personal pizza, but cuts into 6 slices. We could have stopped there, but we had to try another pie. We went on to have the Salsiccia pizza, which had fennel sausage, roasted fennel, tomato, and mozzarella. If you are looking for something other than your typical Margherita, both are sure to satisfy. I would definitely recommend Pizzeria Vetri!

It's not as good as south street nomad pizza but definitely is worth it. Their calzone is fully of meat and delicious. Been there a couple times now and have not had a bad pizza yet! Top it off with a nice selection of beer. You can't go wrong.

Our takeout order was a little disappointing given the hype, particularly the rotolo. We tried the Melanzana pizza; while it was certainly better than your average pie, it could have done with a crisper crust, brighter tomatoes, and some (roasted) garlic. The cookie jar was a surprise highlight...especially the pignoli and the pistachio gnocchi, which are worth retuning for.

Came here early on a Friday night; it was not too crowded. If you sit inside, the tables are communal so you may be tight on elbow room. There are also counters. We ordered the melanzana pizza and the italian caesar salad. The pizza was soggy. When you lifted a slice off by the crust (as you normally would when eating pizza) all the toppings slide off. It was disappointing. The flavors were good; but the sogginess of the pie made me wonder how come this place has gotten such rave reviews. I looked around and the other diners appeared to have non-soggy pizza. They were actually holding the crust and biting into the pizza, whereas we were scooping our toppings off the plate. So perhaps it is just this style of pizza that needs help. I don't know. I suspect that the pizza was made beforehand; dough rolled out too thin. The soggy part of the pizza was also cold. I'm definitely not coming back and actually would have given this place 1 star, but the waiter was nice and when we mentioned they could improve their soggy pizza they offered us a complimentary soft serve. That was delicious, but not enough to change my mind about coming back for the pizza. Also, there were egg shells in our salad. So overall I question the quality of the food here.

Any fan of Vetri will not be disappointed. At a very late lunch mid-week, so getting a table was not an issue. Love the decor with red accents and communal tables. service was good & the food unbelievable!!! The Arugula salad was a good size with fingerling potatoes, pesto & cheese. Both the Margherita Pizza & the Renato (white rosemary pizza) were super airy and crispy at the same time. They have only one red & white wine on tap, but I found the white wine good. If you go, please don't miss out on the Affogato dessert - its a shot of espresso with soft serve ice-cream. Its a bite of heaven!!!

Where do I start...went here for dinner expecting Vetri Family level of food and service but was let down. Before ordering we learning that they were out of two beers on tap; no big deal we ordered other drinks. For our meal we decided to get the Salsiccia pizza, a rotolo, and the Italian Caesar salad. They were out off the rotolo. No big deal we will have a slice of the pizza of the day...but they were out of that too. Salad comes sans pizza croutons. You guessed it they were out of those too, according to our server, however we saw a salad come out not long after ours that had the croutons. Our $16 pizza comes and there is barely one bite of sausage per slice. To top it all of our server didn't even try to fake an apology. Throughout it all the service was slow but magically picked up as soon as we finished our meal. Needless to say we will NEVER be back. Very disappointing.

The best pizza I have had ever. The ingredients are fresh and delicious, the dough was as good as it can be (thin crust), it was perfect. The beer and wine list was also great, service was attentive. Best of all, the espresso and soft serve dessert was incredible. I can't wait to go back!
(5)Ana Maria I.
While Vetri's restaurants are wonderful, I do not recommend you go to this one. The service was atrocious. We sat at the counter and had to ask 3 times if we could place our order. The pizza is good but overpriced. My husband had the fennel sausage pizza and had 4 small pieces of sausage in the entire pizza. There were tomato can on the counter as decorations and they were full of dust. Finally, we asked for the check, and they gave us the wrong one. Our waitress said she got confused since both parties had ordered a Peroni. Marc, we will go to Osteria for the pizza!
(2)John N.
The menu has Neopolitan pizza and not much else. Pizza is excellent. Had a Margherita, a Marinara, and the Crudo. Oh, and the fried pizza dough for dessert was good, too.
(5)Dave H.
I was excited to try this place out, as I haven't truly had delicious pizza since touring Italy. I was hopeful Pizzeria Vetri was going to become my new pizza place, where I can get authentic Italian pizza.. that didn't happen. Although the pizza was good, especially for pizza in Philadelphia I couldn't help but think it was lacking something and ultimately could have been better. Perhaps it was the particular brand of olive oil that was used that I didn't care for. While there I sampled the pizza crudo and the pizza melanzana. The crudo was better than the melanzana. The service was excellent and the staff was friendly.
(3)Jay F.
Pizza was good but not great. Stella on 2nd and Nomad are tastier. Stella's salad is better priced than the small $10 Caesar here. I also went after work with my wife and we looked forward to a relaxing atmosphere. We did not enjoy listening to the hip-hop music. We're not old but it's just not what we wanted to listen to after a hectic day at work. We'll go to the other mentioned pizza places.
(3)Rachel F.
Loved this place!!! I love the atmosphere although I wish it were bigger because I'm assuming on a weekend it's probably impossible to get a seat. I went for lunch last Friday and it was packed. We did get a seat right away at the big table though and had a great experience. The staff is super friendly. We had a margherita pizza, which was delish and exactly how I like it. But the real stars were the rotolo and the calzone. To die for! I think this place would be so much fun to bring some friends after work one night and have some wine or even an inexpensive casual date night with my hubby. Can't wait to go back for that calzone!! YUM!
(5)Fred L.
Way foo tight quarters and overcrowded - although the service was good considering the crowded conditions but the much vaunted "Pizza Margherita" did not live up to what I'm accustomed to in a Margherita - after living in Napoli for a number of years maybe I expected too much but I was disappointed with this pizza. As noted, the service was fine and the Arugula salad was very good but........cannot possibly give more than three stars because of the less than outstanding pizza and the very crowded space.
(3)Alex B.
I have to say that the pizza at this place was absolutely fantastic. We had the melazzana and the special oyster mushroom and mozzarella pizza. Definitely the best pizza I've ever had outside of Italy. The reason for the 3 stars is the service. From the moment we sat down, our server offered nothing but snarky remarks, sluggish service and an attitude. 5 star food, 0 star service. First time ever that I didn't leave a tip. She is a bigger girl with black hair and arm tattoos. Word of advice, if you get her, ask for a different server, everyone else there seemed nice.

Philadelphia, I love you. Places like this remind me why. We sat at the counter and watched the guys make the pizzas. Our son hates cheese on a pizza and they had one already on the menu for him: The Marinara (oregano, crushed san marzano tomatoes, garlic, olive oil). It was simple... but delicious. If you like real wood-fired pizzas that char the crust (a little blackened... in a good way), this is the place to go to. Our other favorite pizza joints that rival this place are Lombardi's (NYC) and Grimaldi's (Brooklyn). We all had a slice and were shocked at the lovely simplicity of it. Razor thin slices of garlic dotted the fresh tomato sauce. My husband and I shared the Salsiccia (fennel sausage, roasted fennel, tomato sauce, mozzarella). Roasted fennel on a pizza? Brilliant. I cried a little. No wait... I REALLY cried when we shared this cocktail: The Brooklyn (Dad's Hat rye, Luxardo cherry, white vermouth). It says it serves one, but they brought it out in a cute little bottle and gave us each a glass...each with a hand- crafted giant square ice cube (hipster-cool) and Luxardo cherries. Perfection. We also shared a Rotolo (pizza dough, mortadella, ricotta, pistacchio pesto). Those are crazy amazing. I kept saying my husband could eat the rest... then freaking out and going back for another bite. He's lucky I didn't stab him in the hand with a fork to fight over the last bite (to be fair, he was the smart one who ordered it). I could've eaten several of those and forgotten the pizza (although that was wonderful too!). We finished with a little dessert... perfect little Italian cookies ("Cookie Jar" - pignoli, almond cookies, chocolate biscotti, pistacchio gnocchi) and I got an Affogato (fiordilatte soft serve with a shot of espresso). The soft serve is Italian sweet cream... decadent and lovely... with rich espresso in a pretty little Italian mug. I'm in Heaven here. I know nothing about Vetri's other restaurants, but I'm checking them out next time I'm in Philadelphia! By the way... service was great and friendly. 5 stars all around!
(5)Michael F.
What can I say? As expected, the food was wonderful. Unfortunately, Vetri evidently designed this as a take-out with secondary thought to those who might want to eat-in. The space inside is limited, hot, and noisy. The selection of music had so much base that it hurt my ears and made conversation difficult. Outside, they have added a few tables which would have been a good alternative to the inside space if the sidewalk wasn't slanted so steeply that I was afraid the wine glass was going to slide off the table. So, take-out would be the preferable option IF there were some place to park the car to pick-up your order. Mr. Vetri, you need to attend to the non-kitchen aspects of this restaurant if it is to live up to your well deserved reputation!
(3)Steve W.
We were taken here while on vacation in Philly. Lucky us! The pizza of the day was exceptionally good -- butternut squash topped with crispy sage. Based on others' reviews, we tried the rotolo and it was delicious, as were the Caesar salad, the red house wine on tap, and the other pizzas we ordered.

Pizzeria Vetri seems like a regular pizza place but once you take a bite of their pizza... man, it makes your tastebuds blow up! The flavor of their pizza is so good and what I mean by so good is that you might just go crazy for their pizza. It's both good for lunch and dinner. The restaurant itself is a bit tiny. Tables are in two lines so your conversations aren't so private. So if your looking for a pizza place for dinner or lunch go to Pizzeria Vetri where you'll almost want to marry their pizza (I don't mean marry it literally I mean it you'll like it so much you'll live with it). If this review wasn't helpful for you post a comment.

We beat the lunch hour crowd mid-week and shared a Salsiccia pizza, wood oven salad, and Victory Braumeister Pils Beers at the counter. One of the best lunches we've had in memory. Vetri & co. do a great job in selecting their ingredients -- I've not tasted better mozzarella. The cost was a bit more than elsewhere, but quality of food more than made up for it. Soft-serve swirl was excellent. So far, Pizzeria Vetri, Pizzeria Beddia, and Nomad have "got it" -- will be checking others out as well.

Ok I haven't gotten the chance to eat there so the one missing star is for the experience we had and because my intention is to give feedback to the pizzeria, not make the place look bad. We waited 20-25 minutes for two seats at the communal table. When we were called we were instructed to sit across from each other. I asked if we can sit next to each other, not because I can't sit away from my boyfriend for the time it takes to eat dinner, but because the place is too loud I didn't want to have to shout while eating, the hostess said no, sorry. We were disappointed and decided to leave. The thing is it takes only two seconds to figure out a seating plan that would make parties sit next to each other without compromising the satisfaction of anyone. It only takes two seconds and the willingness to make it happen. It's doesn't need a lot of thinking or planning. Anyway, we are not going back, at least until we hear the seating has changed. Especially with winter around the corner the inside seating will get even more crowded.

One would think with Pizzeria Vetri being so close to home, I would visit more frequently. Unfortunately, that is not the case, and since my initial review and I've only been back twice. My first trip back was for my birthday and it was at least 6 months after my initial visit. I hyped the crap out of the place to my husband and probably set the bar way too high in my own head. As a result, I was a little disappointed. I had the Rotolo which was extraordinary but for whatever reason my Melanzana pizza fell a little flat to me personally. I ended up liking my husband's Salsiccia a little more. This past Saturday night, my husband and I were looking for a causal but tasty date night so we decided to head back to Pizzeria Vetri. I took the restaurant off its pedestal and ended up having an exceptional dinner. Funny how that works, right? So of course we had to get the Rotolo. I can see why it won a 2014 Best of Philly award. It was light, doughy and pesto perfection. I would still enjoy it without the mortadella and ricotta but that adds an even more flavor. I could probably be a happy camper with a meal of 3-4 Rotolos. I enjoyed the Salsiccia last time so decided to go for a repeat. It didn't disappoint. Pizzeria Vetri's Instagram page had also tantalized me with pictures of the special pizza of the day, so we had to give it a shot as well. It consisted of broccoli rabe stuffed porchetta, mozzarella, black pepper and pecorino cheese. The ingredients were basic enough for a gourmet pizza but together made for a really great taste. The combination of flavors was a little sharp but in a good way. The service has been excellent for each of my three visits. Our servers have always been polite, professional and extremely polished. On our most recent visit the manager stopped by towards the end of our meal to see how we were doing. I don't love the communal style set-up. While dining out, I prefer the company of my own party. My husband and I have taken to liking to the counter seats that face the open kitchen. I personally found the pizza preparation to be extremely enjoyable to watch and for whatever reason oddly therapeutic and relaxing. Moral of my update: Pizzeria Vetri serves up some fabulous gourmet pizza but it isn't the best gourmet pizza in the world and certainly not the best atmosphere. Go in with a realistic expectation and I think you'll enjoy it just fine.

All I can really say is WoW. The flavors were fantastic. Quattro Formaggi, Crudo and Sea Salt and Rosemary. The service was great. The open pizza area was great to watch these guys at their work. Beer list is awesome. What else can I say. Go. Eat Pizza the way it should have always been.
(5)John M.
Excellent brick oven pizza! I must recommend their fried dough (Nutella not necessary). It's their pizza dough just fried to puffy pieces of sweet, warm deliciousness. When I think friend dough, I generally imagine funnel cake or something extremely sweet and buried in powdered sugar; however, the people at Pizzeria Vetri do it just right with a bit of sugar on top. Let's just say the dough speaks for itself. Also, excellent and fast service. I generally take out and they're always ready with my pizzas within 10-15 minutes.

Beautiful night in the city of brotherly love. Sitting outside with wine, beer a heirloom tomato salad and a yummy pizza...life is good!
(4)Matt H.
went to pizzeria vetri the other day.... 1. smart interior, large chalkboard with menu, but not much seating 2. loud hip hop/ rap music (very annoying imo) 3. very good service 5. AMAZING pizza (best in the city, beats out nomad by far) fresh as you can get ingredients. The 800deg wood oven is their X-factor, try it, you'll know what i mean. TIP: they have a kitchen bar surrounding the wood oven, sit there and you can watch how they cook all the pizzas. some what entertaining.

I can't give less than one star. I also can't rate the food because we never got to eat. We showed up at around 1 on a Sunday. Not busy...lots of empty seats but we were told we had to wait. At one point the hostess grabbed some menus and walked to a table so we followed (because no one communicated with us at all). We were told this table wasn't for us. They would seat us when they're ready. About 5 minutes later the guy hosting told us "go ahead there's empty seats at the bar"...so much for seating us. We sat down - waited - no water, no menus, no silverware. I watched at least ten other people actually get seated - walked to their table with menus, etc. We got up and left -worst shortest experience dining (or not) I've had in the city.

Was on the way Petco me and my parents saw this place was empty. No line! We weren't very hungry but had to get a pizza here. I had high hope about this pizzeria since I just had amazing experience at Vetri. How good would be! And Philly does have great pizza overall, this one might be too good to me to handle. Got rotolo and margarita pizza. Both were very decent food. I just wouldn't wait for that or walk all the way to restaurant from my neighborhood. Pretty far to walk from center city..
(3)Nan Z.
I never loved pizza much, actually never liked it for most of my life except for a few times, but after eating here I was actually CRAVING the pizza and came back again the next day. Loved the specials, fig and napoleon(?forgot the exact name) pizzas that were being offered that weekend when I was there. Even if while I'm actually eating I don't think "it's amazing" or anything much of it, but really enjoy it and realize afterwards how much I like it and just want more! Perfect place walking distance for lunch if you're visiting, for example, the Franklin Institute or the Barnes Foundation.
(5)Luba P.
Worth the 30 minute wait (but maybe not a full hour). The place was packed on Friday, and it's all communal table seating (not my favorite). But after we sat down we were so excited to finally order. Thankfully everything came out super fast. We tried the rollo app (with mushroom), kinda of like a tightly rolled bun with cheese and veggies inside. The arugula salad was great (about two bites per person). Finally the pizza we got were the four cheese and the eggplant one, both were so good it was hard to pick a favorite. Definitely recommend getting one white pizza and one red pizza, because the sauce is sooo good. For three people this was enough food to split between everyone and leave happily stuffed! They also have take out! For people who like this place definitely try out Nomad Pizza as well...very similar but more in Wash Sq. With less wait time!

Pizza, pizza, pizz..zza (hopefully not infringing on any copyright laws). Quite simply one of the best bites in an area that needs more casual fare options for the artsy-fartsy (word?) people in between their yoga and perusing-the-aisles-of-Whole Foods. Down to business. Showed up with the Mrs. to meet some friends around lunch time and it was surprisingly packed. Not really, since it was a Saturday afternoon, but still.. it's annoying. After placing our names on the waiting list with a very courteous host, and a brief stint to the nearby pet supplies store, we received a text from the restaurant stating that our table was ready (add in a 30 minute time lapse for the wait). Unfortunately, the restaurant was still packed and we were forced to sit, classroom style facing out the window in a row side by side. Fortunately, that was the worst part of the meal. Our server came over and took our drink orders, of which there are many including wines by the glass and beers, bottles and cans. Since the pizza is what we wanted, the pizza is what we ordered. Salsiccia - fennel sausage, roasted fennel, tomato sauce, mozzarella came out beautifully crisp with just charred edges and the cheese golden brown from the fires. Braised Lamb (special of the day) was garnished with ricotta and herbs - a fan favorite. Delicately gamey and satisfyingly savory. Quattro formaggi - gorgonzola, mozzarella, smoked provolone, fontina... great cheese flavor.. a bit funky from the fontina, which was fine for me, but the Mrs. was a bit put off (a bit apprehensive to the harsher smelling foods) Renato - mozzarella, rosemary, olive oil, sea salt.. surprisingly this one was my favorite as well as the Mrs. The crispy dough became cracker like, glistening with olive oil and seasalt, sprinkled with rosemary throughout. The mozzarella had melted into a delicious web of chewy and crunchy that exploded with awesomeness. Our dining entertaining was provided by the local girl scouts peddling their wares on the streets amidst a driver on the opposite side, who spent twenty minutes trying to parallel park in a spot big enough for two. Unless you're lucky enough to witness free entertainment, I'd recommend going during the week when it's a bit less crowded.
(4)Margaret T.
Everything here is delicious! Authentic pizza shop feel dressed up to be a little more classy. Probably some of the best pizza I've ever had. Their regular menu is great with lots of variety, plus they have daily specials. If you get one salad and one pizza and split them, it's the perfect meal for two. However, it will be tough to pick just one! They also have good drink options: beer and wine with changing daily specials. I don't know how long they'll have it, but they had a sour red beer brewed with cherries that I highly recommend. Try: Fried pizza dough! Save room for dessert if you can, because this treat is worth it. Sweet and warm. Watch out: It's really small and can get crowded. Try calling ahead or going on off hours. If you're lucky, you might get to sit at the counter by the oven and see where the magic happens!
(5)Sarah S.
FANTASTIC brick oven pizza. Perfect for a spring after hours meal - delicious pizza and a beer. I don't usually indulge in dessert - but their sweet cream/cappuccino soft serve, CANNOT be missed!

I am a regular of Vetri Pizzeria and it is the only place we go for pizza in Philadelphia. I was very disappointed in the service tonight and all of my colleagues from out of town got the whole "Philly attitude" throughout the whole dinner service. Very disappointing from a service perspective and they must of moved all the good servers to the Rittenhouse location. No wonder they were not busy tonight. The food was excellent especially the special dish they created. Updated items but when i asked about what we ordered totally defensive attitude. We placed several orders and they were not served as requested, when asked the server had a defensive attitude and did not care to provide good customer service. i hope they move the staff around but i can't see them fitting into the Rittenhouse culture. I really hope it changes since this is our go to for pizza but i will not put up with being treated like i was tonight.

Absolutely delicious! We had the Renato and Crudo pizzas and they came out piping hot and amazingly fresh (and they were very quick). They were both so yummy I couldn't figure out which one I liked better. We also had the Rotolo and it was so tasty and crispy. I had an orange Pellegrino with my meal although I wish I tried one of their beers, they looked very tasty. To top it off, the service was stellar and it was so cool seeing the pizzas being made in their open oven. Can't wait to come back!
(5)Alisa A.
I like the atmosphere but I felt like the salad I ordered was better then the pizza. I would give it another try but I'm definitely getting that same salad again!
(4)Juliana K.
YUM! Pizza here is amazing:) The Rotolo is soo good. It's shaped like a cinnabon, but it's dough with prosciutto, ricotta and other yummy stuff inside. Topped with some pistachio pesto! wow! Wood oven salad has great flavor and is really a salad that's for people who don't like salads. It's filled with prosciutto and veggies. Salsiccia and Crudo pizzas were delicious. Perfectly cooked. Thin pizza. Quality toppings. There was a special meatball pizza that was good, but the crudo was probably my favorite. Friendly service. Casual atmosphere. Food came out hot and fast. Will be back again!

5 stars for my initial experience hands down. Went here for lunch with my mom. I just moved to the area from New York and was looking for some decent pie. This place exceeded my expectations (pizza snob here). It was a bit crowded (Saturday afternoon) so we had to sit outside on the sidewalk. Service was prompt and friendly. We started with the arugula salad. It was tossed with pesto and had Parmesan and potatoes. Absolutely delicious. We then split the fennel sausage pizza, which was again fabulous. We both really enjoyed each dish. So much so as we were walking to the car my mom said, "that was really good." Happy mom = mission accomplished.

I've heard constant legend of the pizza creations that Vetri has been able to concoct at his other establishments. Unfortunately the sheer fact that I've always been in awe of his many pasta, meat, seafood, salumi, and then some that his other menus have to offer have also attributed to his pizzas constantly alluding me. So when I found out that he was set to open a pizzeria in Fairmount I was absolutely smitten with the fact that I'd be able to try the bulk of his pizza offerings without being overwhelmed by the slew of other options. And overall it delivered a plentiful assortment of greatness. Upon entry I noted the roomy interior with plenty of unique seating options. And I instantly loved that my dining partner had chosen the side corner spots that gave us a grand view of the pizza over and the process of preparing the many pies that it created. Upon seating we were welcomed with the extra attentive service that Vetri's restaurant are known for. From bottled cocktails and wines by the tap or carafe, to an eclectic assortment of beers by the bottle or cans, the pizzeria definitely has the assortment of libations. And we were satisfied by the Sly Fox Helles. Much like Osteria, Amis, and others, Pizzeria Vetri utilizes the finest and freshest of ingredients alongside the most authentic of traditional Italian pizza cooking methods to create some serious pies. And if you go with 2 or more people its the perfect opportunity to share to your hearts content. The Salsiccia offered the perfect blend of fennel sausage and roasted fennel with mozzarella and tomato sauce. And my companion had an incredible special pie with a bit of eggplant, mozzarella, tomato sauce and potato. With pies like that, a traditional Margherita, a proscuitto crudo with buffalo mozzarella, and then some there are reallly no wrongs choices. Add in an impeccable calzone, plenty of salad options, desserts like soft serve ice creams, and after dinner limoncello; and there are plenty of reasons to love here!

Didn't even get to eat.... Waited 30 mins for a table. We were skipped and than offered to sit at the counter with a newborn baby. Really? They gave our table away twice but I'm supposed to be ok with that. I'll stick to Jersey for pizza next time
(1)Wendi G.
Let me start by saying pizza is one of my favorites. I've had pizza from Naples, Italy to Naples, Florida and then some (places without even YELP!). Tried this place on a blustery winter day for lunch. I was expecting a lot more. Although the pizza was fine I would not say it ranked in my overall top 10 pizza meals. We had the Marinara and Quattro Fromaggio - both were only warm when served. Service was fine but for $32 I feel the meal fell a little flat.
(3)Julie N.
Been to Pizzeria Vetri plenty of times. I'm definitely a fan of their pizzas - the crust is very light and the sauce:cheese ratio is quite enjoyable. The seating inside is communal tables... although if the place is packed, there aren't many places to wait besides by the doorway which can be a little awkward at times. Kimberly has been our server on multiple occasions and she is one of the nicest, bubbliest servers I've ever met. I am also thinking that she has superhuman ears because the last time we were there, she took our plates and utensils away, then brought out our dessert (fried dough)... my husband said, "I wish she didn't take our forks." and she magically reappeared with clean forks. Favorite pies are the margherita and salsiccia. Give it a try!

I've been to Pizzeria Vetri a few times, and I've had them delivered through Postmates. The pizza is consistently delicious, and I love that they can accommodate my vegan friends with plenty of options. The problem I faced in my most recent trip was the waitress' horrendous attitude. People don't go out and buy high priced pizza to feel insulted. If you are impatient, snarky, and sarcastic perhaps you should not work in an environment where your job is to accommodate other people. The restaurant has great decor and wonderful food. All of the other staff members I've encountered in past visits were very friendly and informative. I'm glad they offer delivery because I have a bad taste in my mouth about eating there.
(3)Andrew B.
My first Vetri pizza experience. Good pizza and accompaniments, for a reasonable price. The place is simple - pizza and a couple other things. Sit outside if your not afraid of the sloping sidewalk. Go

Paid $14 for a 10 inch Margerita pizza that was cut into 6 pieces, 2 of which didn't have any cheese on them. None. The sauce was good, but the pizza is absurdly overpriced. The size of the pizza would be the equivalent of 2 slices at a normal pizzaria. So it's like paying $14 for 2 slices of pizza. Also got the $10 Caesar salad. Same issue. The only difference was that the salad was pedestrian, at best, and the pizza was actually pretty good.
(2)Kristina D.
Great, inventive pizza. Ordered the special which was fava beans, spring onion, mozzarella, and black pepper pecorina. It was fantastic. Our table also had the Salsiccia, which was equally good. My kids ordered the Nutella pizza and were really excited by this option. They enjoyed their order as well. The only downside is they do not take reservations, so getting in with a party of seven for lunch proved challenging. We ended up waiting about 40 minutes, but I am okay with that as I really wanted to try this out. The service wasn't the best, but it wasn't horrible either. All in all a good experience but with the burgeoning restaurant scene in Philly, I am not sure I would put this on my have to go back to list.

If you pass this place up, your crazy! Myself, wife and 2 lil ones had a great meal tonight. The food was out of this world. We had one margarita pie, one 4 cheese, one meat slice, an order of pizza dough and Nutella, and a cappuccino. Great food, great service, and a great experience. Well done guys, we'll be back! Thank you.
(5)Ariel B.
Amazing margarita pizza. Best tomato sauce I've ever had. Everything is made right in front of you & is fresh. The place is pretty small so you can either sit community style @ the tables or sit bar-style and watch them make the pizzas. They also serve liquor which is a plus

Finally made it to Pizzeria Vetri after walking by it and drooling probably 100 times. We didn't have a reservation, so we ended up waiting about 25 minutes, which was pretty quick for how crowded the place was. Not to mention it was a Friday night. The service was quick and the pizza was very very good. I was surprised that there was no mushroom pizza that night whatsoever - they should make one a regular item on the menu! I'd like to compare this place to Bufad, which is just a few blocks away and has a very similar menu and prices. Bufad is BYOB and offers buy one get one deals during the week, but Pizzeria Vetri has larger pizzas and offers a good variety of wine and beer. Both are great options, and I will continue to visit them equally!

Greeted at the door by a pleasant server. Ample seating. Tables turn over quickly. Loud music. Hip vibe. Young crowd. Cheap eats. $8 wines and a pretty decent beer selection. Pizza served within 5 minutes! Absolutely fabulous! Nice thin crust with fresh ingredients. Didn't expect fresh tasty basil in Philadelphia in 9° weather (bit of a basil snob, I am). Good mozzarella on our Margherita pie. Hubby had the special Salumente Picante pizza slice and it was tasty. Nothing to scream home to mama about but a nice spot with a good slice. Bravo.
(4)Justin V.
Came here with my girlfriend and sat on the side walk which was nice on a cool, sunny day. It was a little weird at first because there's a slope and you sort of sit at an incline, but you stop noticing after a while. As for the pizza, it was just okay. It was a decent pie but seemed a little light on the meat for the Salsiccia, which consisted of fennel sausage, roasted fennel, tomato sauce, mozzarella. I wish I had gone for the special which had mussels in it. I would come back to give it another try but there are too many places in Philly to try!
(3)Angie K.
Get the ice cream!!! True this is a pizza shoppe, but don't forget the ice cream!! I had the Chopped Salad (frisee, onions, green beans, and chickpeas), and loved it. I love all the textures of the salad, the dressing wasn't overpowering, and the ingredients were fresh. We tried the Melanzana Pizza (with eggplant!) and the classic Margherita. Both were done well, and I especially enjoyed the Melanzana. The pizzas were delicious, light and fluffy. Little did I know that Pizzeria Vetri has an awesome custard machine. The Soft Serve Ice Cream was probably the highlight of the meal- awesome creaminess and flavor. Leave room for dessert!
(4)Aditi M.
This is a decent pizza place with a pizza bar around the pizza oven/hearth where you can see them make pizza right in front of you. The service is pretty quick. The only downside is that it is a small place and is always crowded so you should expect wait times.

The Rotolo is a hugely overhyped culinary creation. With some others' reviews in mind, I eagerly took a bite with the expectation that this moment would completely redefine my life... only to recoil in surprised disgust as my taste buds came into contact with this greasy, hard-to swallow piece of dough. Apparently, it is possible for something to be both flavorless and salty at the same time. (This is it.) As some other reviewers point out, the dough is crunchy on the outside and under-cooked on the inside. Although it is very oily, the mixture of dry dough and ricotta gets easily stuck in my throat, unless I swallow it with half a bottle of beer. What bothers me the most, though, is that the pistachio bits keep falling off. On the bright side, the Rotolo is only $3.50. The Wood Oven salad was also very disappointing. It was a mixture of some kind of thinly sliced Italian ham with slightly pickled root vegetables, which were both charred and under-cooked at the same time. The only thing I liked was the $14 Margherita Pizza, which tasted just like it does at any other wood-fired pizza places. The service was good, even though we had to wait about 40 minutes to get seated. Overall, I would probably come back to try some other pizzas, but I would not be in a hurry to do so and I definitely would not wait 40 minutes.
(3)Catherine D.
Pizza is delish! Maybe my favorite pizza in Philly. The arugula salad is great too , and the fried pizza dough rolled in sugar is delightful. Seating is a little limited with two big communal tables and a window bar, and coming in with a stroller at lunchtime I thought I would be s out of luck. But the hostess was great in finding us a good end spot that opened up within 10 minutes.
(5)Maggie Y.
I could eat their melanzana pizza every day. Every. Day. What is a rotolo? DELICIOUSNESS. This place makes me regret not living in Philly.
(5)Jonny R.
I wish I could give this four stars. I loved the food, the pizzas were charred and crusty, the cheese gooey and delicious, and even the tap list was half decent. The rotolo was to die for, almost too decadent. And the fried pizza dough for dessert? Da bomb. Great location, great vibe, even great option to donate to a good foundation at the end of the meal. But the service was, in a word, indifferent. A few others: inattentive, idle, isolated. Couldn't get the servers' attention to order more food or drinks.Might be two stars if that rotolo wasn't so darn good. I was frustrated, but some spots have their off nights. I'll be back for a re-review in time.

We came for dinner a few weeks ago and have heard nothing but good things. I wasn't expecting the small dining room or community tables but it was fine. We sat down and the server came by with our menus. I ordered the salami slice and margherita pizza to split with my daughter. My husband ordered a pizza, too but I forget the toppings. The food was very good and as I was warned, pizzas were pretty pricey. My husband's pizza was $17! Crazy. At the end, we had the fried pizza dough which were amazing! My husband definitely wants to come back so we will!
(4)Justin Z.
My new pizza place. This was my second time here and it was just as amazing as the first time. Service was also awesome!
(5)Doina N.
Love their pizza - hands down one of the best. Usually, I get the margherita or the four cheese. Once, I tried their special with prosciuto and salami which was heavenly. Yes, there's a wait time usually here but I've managed to get seated within 15 min the most. Now, if you present here around 6 pm on a Friday night or around lunch time on the weekend, be prepared to wait way longer than that. It's obvious that people around the neighborhood take advantage. Also, the space is not that large so it gets crowded easily.
(4)Edward M.
After walking and biking past this place many times, I finally got to try it. The place is small-ish, with some communal tables and a window-side bar table, so if you have a party of more than two and the communal tables are occupied, seating might be a challenge, although they do also have some outdoor tables, which should be nice when the weather cooperates. The selection of beers is small, but interesting and varied enough that you should be able to find something you'll like. We did. The pizzas are ready within just a few minutes, so be prepared to eat shortly after ordering. The pizzas we tried were well-made and tasty, though not particularly wow inducing. I'd be curious to try a few more of their offerings. The dessert cookies are nicely flavored and have a good ratio of sweet to fat and starch. Our server was great and the staff generally seemed friendly and helpful.
(4)Hammad H.
Over Hyped Heard a lot about this place and have been planning to try them for a while. I had high hopes. Sadly they were roundly dashed wroth the first course. The rotolo, a much publicized item on the menu, was...meh! Muted flavors, hard (but not in that crispy goodness way. Rather it tasted like it'd been sitting out and was reheated.) We tried the special meatball pizza. Again, it was ok. The crust was good, but the sauce and toppings were a bit bland. The staff was friendly, but the server never returned to ask if I wanted another drink. All on all, for the amount of money there are many other pizza places I n Philly.
(3)Ancy T.
The setup is very casual and the service was pretty good. That Ritolo thing everyone raves about was super tasty. Our pizza choices for the afternoon - crudo and quatro formaggi... sooooo flavorful!! And to end it all we had the fried dough and coffee. You're either a pizza person or you're not. I'm not really a pizza snob so it could be a piece of bread with some sauce and I'd think it was good pizza. That being said, take this review with a grain of salt. I still enjoyed this experience despite my lack of expertise in this food group. I would compare it to Nomad Pizza as far as the thin crust and the types of pizza served with a few other signature items on the menu. Nomad has way better specials though and great happy hours.

Went to Philadelphia for some works ..after done I told my friend I am not a fan of pizza and he just want to change my mind by the way take me to here ....oh well , no problem with free meal for lunch time lol ....the place is small and not real fancy but have nice time for lunch ....my friend order pizza he think I will be love it....all right , he does not let me down and they don't let me down either . Pizza was really good , I love the cheese and the meat on top of pizza ....they don't have much choose for beers and parking real pain in Philadelphia, ....I will be come back again ....
(4)Lara R.
Adorable upscale pizzeria. Quick, delicious pizza and great wine on tap. My husband does not like dessert as much, so they were more than willing to split our fried dough to cover half with orange fennel sugar and the other half had Parmesan cheese and a side of warm pizza sauce. Definitely would recommend to our friends and are coming back!
(5)Mandy L.
Good atmosphere, good service good food. The server recommended the Rotolo and we saw it was featured on the food network so we had to get that. It was very good we were not disappointed. We also got the Salsiccia Pizza. It came in a red sauce with sausage and fennel, also very tasty. The dough was cooked perfectly and had just the right amount of crunch. We got the arugula salad which tasted fresh. Overall this is a great pizza spot, we will definitely be back.
(4)Angela H.
The prices are a bit steep, however this is true only if you're just considering price here v. price elsewhere. This pizza is exceptional. Definitely the best in the city. The quality of the ingredients and the preparation are top notch. Absolutely incomparable to any other pizza in Philly (that I have tried, obviously). Makes places like Bufad (which charges similar prices) seem ridiculous. And thinking about the Crudo pizza at Vetri's literally makes me salivate. The dining area isn't necessarily off-putting to me, but I understand why some wouldn't really like it. It's picnic table style with a little pizza bar inside and some tables outside. The ceilings are really high and the floor space small, so it looks a little odd. The service here is very friendly, kind of a more upscale service experience considering it's a pizza joint, which is a nice touch that should round out any discomfort one may have about the prices. The Sloe Gin Fizz is a housemade cocktail that I really love! Also the gelati are delicious. The only suggestion I will make is that they chop up the basil leaves on the Margherita pizza. They just toss on 5 or 6 huge leaves and nobody wants to eat an entire basil leaf in a single bite. All in all, you should try this pizza. If you try it and you're still not comfortable with the price, well, at least you had a damn good pizza for once in Philly! Buon appetito!
(5)Scott L.
The alcohol here is ridiculously overpriced. The atmosphere is not nice enough for a date. It's more like a place to bring a soccer team to after a game. The pizza is good, but not the best in Philly by far. I enjoyed the Rosemary pizza, but I found that their burrata just tasted strange. Their wines are mediocre at best. Thankfully they have an excellent selection of beers (in cans)! The service, however, was excellent.
(2)Lea L.
I've been wanting to try this place for awhile and I was finally able to stop in this past Friday night around 9:30pm. The place was pretty crowded but no wait for a seat. There were about 5 beers on draft and a decent selection of beer by the bottle/can. I didn't pay much attention to the wine but I did notice they had a wine on tap. The service was decent and the food came out very quick. For two of us we ordered the Crudo, Tonno, the calzone and a rotolo. Everything was delicious. I think the calzone was our favorite. The best way to describe everything is very different but in a good way! You don't find pizza like this just anywhere. The wood fired oven cooks everything to perfection. Overall, it was way too much food for the two of us but we were happy because it was delicious reheated the next day. My favorite part of the meal was dessert. We ordered an Affogato to share and it might be the best desert I've ever had! It's so simple, just a shot of espresso with fiordilattle soft serve , but it was perfect! I will definitely be going to back!
(5)Sarah P.
I had a great quick meal here last week after taking myself on a date to the Franklin Institute and the Book Corner. Fresh salads and Neapolitan pizzas. Nice beer selection. I was planning on ending my meal with an affogato - however I ended up being too stuffed. I'll be back.
(4)Tiffany T.
Delicious. I'm glad I finally came around. Service was great. Simple, but very professional. She came around at appropriate times to see if we had questions with the menu, described the daily specials and gave us adequate time to decide on drinks and food. We started off with the Rotolo -- which is like everyone said.. awesome! Pistachio, ricotta.. stuffed in a roll of some sort. Just get it, no regrets here! We got the Crudo and 4 cheese pizza. It's simple, good ingredients on a good quality dough. So nothing over the top made me fall out of my seat, but well executed and very fast! Good prosciutto, good cheese.. really great pizza. Also tried the affogato for dessert. Pretty steep for the quantity, but it's good. Not something you HAVE to get. Imagine, good espresso + vanilla ice cream. That's what it is. Tasty, but not necessary. Will definitely be back to try some of their other pizza creations!
(4)JB Y.
4 stars because the beer selection is plentiful and great and the waitress was very pleasant. The pizza was good but didn't blow me away, I think Stella's may be a little better but for the most part, brick oven pizza is like khaki pants, hard to screw up but also hard to make shock-you amazing. That doesn't even make any sense. We got the sausage and quatri formagi which my sister correctly pointed out smelled like feet but thankfully did not taste as such. Sincerely, Jon

Difficult to get to from Center City, but totally worth the ride. This pizzeria serves up some of the finest pies. My favourite is the Melanzana - with eggplant and stracciatella cheese that just melts in your mouth. Don't forget to try the affogato - an espresso with a dollop of soft serve ice cream. This is a dessert that you cannot and must not miss. The only thing missing with Pizzeria Vetri is a happy hour, and I hope the new one opening this month at Rittenhouse will have one.
(5)Christina V.
Oh Pizzeria Vetri, how I wanted to 4 and 5 star love you- but our night wasnt that night. Don't get me wrong, your food was decent- the Crudo was tasty and the rotolo was great but I guess the hype prior to meeting you was just a bit oversold. Service: Meh. everyone there seemed really bored and the vibe was a bit bland. Seating: I sat at the counter because I dislike communal seating unless I'm at a bar. I recommend this option if you don't want to sit near someone else's hangry toddler or if you just want to watch the pizza making magic. Food: Decent. The pizza (I got the Crudo) was good and rotolo was really good but my pizza was a bit too oily and was barely warm. Other then that, the thin crust style pizza was well executed and all of the ingredients were fresh. The prosciutto wasn't overly salty and the sauce was lovely. I will probably go back soon to try a bit more from the menu since there were a lot of things that were appealing like the Melanzana and Salsiccia pizzas or the Nutella Pizza for dessert, yum. To be continued...
(3)Jada L.
My friend and I stopped by on a decent Friday night. The place was full and surprisingly our wait was only 10 minutes. Our server greeted us immediately with a smile! We started with Rotolo and Arugula Salad. Both had unique ingredients with diverse textures which worked well. Our main dish was the Melanzana pizza (our server's favorite). I really enjoyed the eggplant and the pizza as a whole! Speaking of pizza... we ended our meal with Nutella Pizza. I have had Nutella pizza before, but this one was crispy and had marshmallow fluff! We even got a complimentary bowl of ice cream! I must say, I do not recommend this restaurant for a first date since you will be close to your neighbors. I would come back here to try other pizzas and check out their great beer menu! Service was on point.
(4)Frank G.
Best pizza I ever ate. Words can not describe the joy I have to have the pleasure of eating here and reviewing such an establishment. The pizza is only comparable to places in Italy in my opinion. The quality of the ingredients, the consistency, the oven they use... It's culinary art in action. Wonderful!!!!
(5)Majlinda K.
Don't show up here without a reservation, especially on a weekend unless you don't mind waiting around for a half hour! The place is small and cute. You can sit by the pizza counter and watch them make the pizzas or you can get a regular table. Since there were only three of us we had to share a big table with other people. To start off the mean we go the rotolo and a salad. The rotolo was quite nice weird tasting. The mortadella, ricotta, pistacchio pesto combo didn't taste right. We got two pizzas to share between three people and they were more than enough. We got the Quattro formaggi pizza and the Melanzana. The four cheese pizza was my favorite and I highly recommend it. The melanzana was borderline average. It was quite thin (which I like) but somehow it was a little soggy and they were being super conservative on the cheese. Overall pizza quality was quite average! The service was really good and we got our food pretty quickly!

Stopped in Pizzeria Vetri late on Sunday night. Found parking easy on the street. The place is in a very nice store front and is simple, hip and clean. They have some outdoor seating, but we chose indoors. The waitress service was very good. They have a nice selection of rotating beers. We ordered the following: Quattro formaggi pizza - gorgonzola, mozzarella, smoked provolone, fontina Salsiccia - fennel sausage, roasted fennel, tomato sauce, mozzarella Arugula salad- coal roasted potatoes, pesto, taggiasca olives The pizza was great, probably the best I have had in awhile. The crust is light and fluffy with just a touch of wood fried burn. The toppings are just right and tasted very fresh and were not oily. I really liked Pizzeria Vetri and I will be back to try some other menu items and desserts.
(4)Catherine D.
The only thing better than pizza is scrumptious, indulgent and INTERESTING pizza! Pizzera Vetri far exceeded my expectations in these categories. We arrived here a little unconventially, which was a result of my boyfriend asking an ESPN baseball writer and self-proclaimed "food lover" (better than 'foodie') about his favorite places to eat in Philly via Twitter, so this was an intentional trip with high hopes! After crusing around the Fairmount area for a while, I was surprised to walk into a high-ceilinged room with a primarily industrial feel. It was empty but we were greeted by a friendly host who directed us to one of the enormous community size tables. Our server was very helpful in explaining the menu for us first-timers and gave off a very positive and approachable vibe. She recommended getting two pizzas between the two of us because she "usually just eats one for herself." While I didn't forsee that happening, there were so many appealing choices, I couldn't rule anything out! We started with that and the arugula salad, which is made with coal roasted potatoes, pesto and taggiasca olives. I could tell by looking at the salad that it would be good; and every single bite was leafy green heaven. The pesto was perfect, light on the oil and a great complement to the other ingredients. I actually found that the heavy potatoes detracted from the enjoyment of the salad and left those to the side. The first pizza that grabbed my attention was the Renato, a simple white pizza with mozzarella, rosemary, olive oil and sea salt. I was somewhat underwhelmed with my first few bites, but later realized that piece was just burnt! (Hey, it's thin crust pizza, have to take the good with the bad.) My un-burnt slice was the PERFECT white pizza, which is one that hold its own and doesn't make you think "wait, something is missing here!" Pizza can be just as perfect without all that red sauce. But, speaking of which... We quickly came to a mutual agreement that a second pizza was necessary to sate both our palates and our curiosity. Our server recommened the marinara pizza with oregano, crushed san marzano tomatoes, garlic and olive oil. We added mozzarella because cheese is one thing a pizza should NOT be without! This pizza was also perfection, quite an upgrade from what you'll find at your local shopping plaza pizza joint. It's obvious that they use fresh and quality ingredients which is always a plus. My only qualm was that the pizzas are a little small for what they cost, but I suppose that ties in with the quality appeal. We ended up not being able to finish everything and took several slices home, so these babies still lasted a while. (Though I cannot confirm nor deny if I took a bite of leftover Renato on the way home.) Believe it or not, after all the cheese was said and the olive oil was done, we still ordered dessert. We definitely chose the worst dessert on the menu; not my first choice, not pointing any fingers though... We shared the fried pizza dough with citrus fennel sugar. It had way too much fennel that didn't do much being just slapped on top of fiery spheres of tasteless, deep-fried carbs. Not the best way to end our meal, but now we know for next time. Overall, fantastic pizza and minimalistic yet comfortable atmosphere. I can't wait to go back and try some more of the specialty pizzas. (They advertised a 'pizza of the day' slice with PEACHES that sounds like a delicious summery twist!)
(4)Lauren H.
"I thought it would be crispier." That's what she said! (It made the hubs laugh.) It's a sort of mixed up pizza. Certainly not thin & crispy, but not spongy, like most American pizza. But also not Neapolitan, as is the style of the day. Whatever it was, however, worked for me. And their red sauce is really spot on. And get that roltolo with the pesto. Buuut. .. ugh, the set up. So awkward. There is no where to wait where you won't feel in the way. You just stand there with your rapidly warming wine or beer. And don't get me started on bottled cocktails. I get the space issue (plus not paying a bartender, which I get but don't condone.) but the selection is never all that good. Combine that with such limited wine selections - stick with beer? I guess, if that's your thing. And I hate communal seating. Especially when there are so many children. I guess I forget that when chefs and their restaurants are spoken of in these exalted tones, that it's still just pizza. Kids like pizza. I think Vetri could have just found a larger space.

I came on a Friday night after a long bus ride from NYC due to the snow. The place was filled with people even though the weather was horrible. My friend and I were seated by the bar,in front of where the pizzas are made. The waitress came by after a few minutes to take our drinks. I asked her for suggestions and she didn't seem to care and gave pretty terrible suggestion on what to get. If you work there, you should be able to tell me what is good and what most people would get. She came a few minutes later and took our order after her horrible suggestion. My friend and I decided on the Crudo and Melanzano. They were both absolutely delicious! I preferred the Melanzano but my friend loves prosciutto so her fav was the Crudo. It was great to sit at the bar and watch the pizza being made. I def would recommend this to friends.
(4)Vipul C.
Pizza is expensive, small & super thin crust. They are one of those trendy spots. It's nice & clean & the employees are nice. Taste ok, not worth the $14 for the thin 13" pizza. You'll leave broke or hungry. Two stars due to the value.
(2)An N.
Flippin' incredible fresh pizzas. If I could compare it to anything, the crust is a lot like Roberta's in NY.
(4)Jackie D.
Delicious pizza with just the right amount of doughiness! The rotolo is a must try. This is a great place to experience Vetri deliciousness without breaking the bank!
(4)Kendrah R.
Good pizza and salad. Ridiculously small portions for the price. Great hip hop music. Free fizzy water. Good waitstaff. Free table side entertainment: the crazy Philadelphians who are sharing the table with you.
(4)Jennifer M.
If there is anything that I love more than love itself, it is PIZZA. A really good pie does wonders for the soul and while it cannot cure cancer, it can certainly resolve those hunger pangs! A few girls and I decided to meet up for diner after work, and I was pretty excited since I have heard so many good things about this place! Since it was a nice day, we sat outside. I ordered the Post Road, while the others decided to wash down pizza goodness with wine. We ordered the pizza of the day which was a slice of roasted pear, thyme, mozz, and gorgonzola with a dash of honey. That slice was seriously good, and I could have eaten a whole pie of that. But I didn't because we had ordered two pies and the arugula salad. (We were really hungry). The Renato was a simple, yet tasty trifecta of rosemary, olive oil, and sea salt. The Salsiccia was made with some serious love. Fennel sausage, tomato, and mozz. Lastly, the arugula salad! I really enjoyed this! Hearty potatoes married well with the pesto sauce. I will always remember this dinner, and cannot wait to go back.
(5)Don D.
The fried pizza dough is like a beignet and funnel cake combined and just as awesome. Surprised I haven't heard about them yet. Secret may not be out
(5)Walter C.
Absolutely fantastic pizza. Dough is soft but still those great pockets of slight blackened goodness. Try the Crudo. Prosciutto and mozzarella cheese. Perfect. Pizza cooked in 600 degree oven so it's very fast. Good beers as well.
(4)Therese M.
Good weekend lunch spot. Grab a seat at the counter, order some beers, and watch as your pizza is prepared. We went with the margherita and quattro formaggi. It was nice knowing that our pizza really was fresh out of the oven and was in front of us within seconds of being taken out. It tasted just as delicious as it looked, with a nice thin and slightly charred crust. We ended up with some leftovers, so I'd say 1.5 pizzas is probably the perfect amount for 2 people to share. Beer prices here are on the higher side, but its hard to turn down the combo of pizza and beer.
(4)Fereshteh A.
I suggest you just get the pizza and nothing else. The rotolo which is the bread/ricotta/prosciutto/pistachio "appetizer" made me completely full. It is not as amazing as everyone says, it is oily and too salty. The pizza is flawless though. However the giant fan in the place makes it go cold FAST. The cookie jar was nothing amazing. Very normal short bread/biscotti style cookies.
(3)Natisha C.
They specialized in small pizzas. For the price point, the toppings really aren't all the special. I just think that they could put a lot more effort in offering variety on the menu and including bolder flavors. I've tried the tono and the margerhita pizzas and they are okay at best. Each time I've gone their, I haven't had to use my own money to pay, so I never really minded. But would I give them my OWN hard earned dollar? Probably not. I have definitely had better pizza. This place is overpriced for what you get and are even pretty cheap with tap water.
(2)Dee G.
Love this place! Been there twice. Food is consistently good. Had the special speck pizza and the sausage pizza last time. Both were excellent!
(5)Emily W.
This place is so nice! It looks very hip and clean, and they were playing some 90's hip hop while I was there. The food is delicious, and the servers were really great. One of the people in my party had a pine nut allergy, and the server was really careful to make sure none of the food we received had any pine nuts in it. One of our pies came out a little bit late, and the manager sent over some free rotolo and soft serve as an apology. I had a great experience, and I would definitely come back again!
(5)Vinny P.
Pizzeria Vetri is becoming a regular indulgence for me. I've been for both lunch and dinner and I love what they've got going on in this little space. The first thing that caught my eye was the sweet ass pizza oven (Renato?) positioned directly in the center of the place. As I learned from one of their managers, it's the only heat source they have in the restaurant so all of their cooking is done in it. They have several tables but for me, the real action is sitting at the pizza counter and watching the line do its thing. Individual bins with dates are stacked on the left indicating which day the dough was made. The guys working the line pull out a dough ball and begin shaping it. Next, the stretched dough gets one set of a myriad of toppings (fresh sauce, prosciutto, aged cheese, tuna (yes they have a tonno pie) and then is whisked away into that oven. Seven (7) or so minutes later, the pie gets kissed to the top of the oven and comes out piping hot with crispy bubbled edges. Usually, the pies get a finishing of some sort (fresh herbs, some spice or a sprinkling of an aged cheese) before it's handed off to you. The only rub of this place is getting a seat during popular times. There are many great places to get a pie in Philadelphia (of similar quality) but none walkable from this location. They've pretty much setup an outpost and it's working well for them. At lunch, they have a pizza al taglio (by the slice) which means it's baked in a large rectangle and cut off for individual consumption. I had one with roasted pears and holy hell was it delicious. So, if you like delicious pizza and a soundtrack based on a Das Efx pandora station, this is the place for you. Oh and make sure to leave room for the fried pizza dough. You can thank me later.

The pizza is amazing and not that much more than a traditional pizzeria. The various pizza al taglios and the renato are delicious! The staff is always courteous and helpful. My husband and I became dedicated to this place shortly after it opened, when its sister restaurant Osteria gave us the wrong doggy bag---we had leftover pizza, but we took home chicken bones and table scraps, a literal doggy bag. Twenty or so times later it has become a good fallback for when we don't want to cook or have something to celebrate. I was saddened by the choice to replace coffee ice cream with strawberry, but I understand they are trying to add variety. Good job, Mark Vetri!

I've been here at least twice now, this place is great, as long as it's what you're looking for. Pizzeria Vetri has sort of a strange mix of really nice gourmet pizza place and standard corner pizza joint. It's not cheap, but it's not fancy, the food is good, and it comes out quickly. The place is small, there are communal tables and a counter that faces the oven. The menu is simple, pizzas are great, and they have a decent bottled beer selection. 5 stars may be a bit high, but I liked this place, so I'm sticking with it.

Good and delicious oven brick pizza...We had to wait for a while for a table, since it gets a bit crowded in this place, but overall, service was fair and the food was very good! It would be nice to have a gluten free selection as well; although, they can make the pizza without cheese (tomato pie).

We all know Marc, and we all know he knows a thing or two about making damn good pizza. So setting up a joint solely focused on his pizza was a damn good move. The crust is thin and fluffy, the sauce sweet and tangy, the toppings fresh and select - and you get the added bonus of being able to watch them craft your order. Even if you have no idea what it is, order the rotolo (it looks like a cinnamon roll, but it's a savory, pistachio and ricotta-filled delight). Some caveats: - It gets cramped in here. Elbow room not guaranteed. - They don't take reservations. (consider bringing a magazine or crossword puzzle) - If you're a woman sitting at the pizza bar, it can occasionally get ogle-y. But the pizza's really good, promise!

We've dined at a lot of pizza places and this one is top notch! The seating is a little tight because you simply sit at a long table with other diners but we didn't mind. In fact, it gave me a better opportunity to gawk at what others were eating. I had the Italian Sloe Gin Fizz cocktail which was light and refreshing - perfect for a Spring night! To start I had the arugula salad which was so flavorful and complimented the pizza perfectly. We tried the margherita and the renato. Both were cooked perfectly! I love the amazing char from the oven! We will definitely be back!

The service at Pizzeria Vetri is JUST AWFUL! Our waitress (and the other waitresses behind the counter) had terrible attitudes about helping you, despite the restaurant being completely empty. After standing around chatting for 15mins, our waitress finally came over but she seemed annoyed, rolling her eyes and sighing at each dish we ordered. Though the rotolo, pizza, and desserts were great, the terrible service left a sour taste in our mouth. For that reason alone, we won't be coming back, especially with other great options for Neapolitan pizza in the city, like Capofitto.

Recently, one of our friends stopped by for some weeknight wine and grub. Since she had not tried Pizzeria Vetri yet, we decided to get some good eats for takeout. Wood Oven Salad [$12] Roasted parsnips, carrots, celery root, turnips, prosciutto cotto, smoked scamorza The wood oven salad always offers great bites and is clearly my type of salad. This is a new iteration for the winter menu, offering the addition of sweet parsnips. The root vegetables added earthy sweetness to counteract the salty ham and smoked scamorza. I suppose there could have been a bit more greens to make this a true salad, but hey, I'm not really partial to rabbit food anyways. Rotolo x3 [$3.50 x3] Pizza dough, mortadella, ricotta, pistacchio pesto You can't go to Pizzeria Vetri and not order the rotolo. One of the best bites of 2013, these are crusty on the outside, while the innards are soft and pillowy. Each bite offers a great meld of flavors with the heft of the mortadella accentuated by the garlicky pistachio pesto. That pesto is something else - the nuggets of pistachio are like candy - I could totally drink this dressing. Pizza al Taglio [$6] Speck, mozzarella, gorgonzola, balsamic vinaigrette The pizza al taglio are also a must order. Pizzeria Vetri usually offers two types - one for herbivores and another for the vegetarians. These rectangular slices offer great chew. The speck al taglio offers great salty flavors, with the gorgonzola providing some funk and the balsamic vinaigrette adding some tart richness. On another night, I had a corner piece of this same pizza al taglio and that was even better. The crust was especially crispy, though the dough itself was deliciously chewy. The speck was translucent and melted upon mastication. Yum. Pizza al Taglio [$6] Marinara, swiss chard, mozzarella, ricotta salata We also tried the veggie slice, which showcased swiss chard which had nicely bitter flavors, balanced by the sweet marinara and the salty dried ricotta. This ate like a meal. Calzone [$16] Ricotta, prosciutto cotto, tomato sauce We also ordered the calzone, which was just as pillowy as the first time I had it. The crust was crisp and the innards were salty and creamy, with the cooked ham offering heft. Quattro Formaggi [$14] Gorgonzola, mozzarella, smoked provolone, fontina Each cheese definitely stands on its own in this four cheese pice. The crispiness of the thin crust offered great texture for each bite. Crudo [$18] Prosciutto crudo, bufala mozzarella, parmigiano This was my first time trying the crudo and I was not disappointed. The creamy bufala was the perfect canvas for the gossamer thin strips of the salty, cured ham. Nice. Consider this another win in my book for Pizzeria Vetri. Vetri's standout pizzeria continues to impress.

This place is close to my apartment so I was excited about its opening last year, but it's been a bit disappointing. I've dined in twice - the pizzas were good, but the portions are way small for the price point, and they skimp with the toppings. A basic margherita is $12 and pretty tiny. On the plus side, their drink list is good, and their desserts are tasty. I decided to give it one more try last night because there was a delivery deal - $10 for a pizza (choose from marinara, margherita, or renato) and a rotolo. I got 2 of the deals for me and a friend, since their pies are super thin with lots of crust, we're talking 1-2 non crust bites per slice. The margherita had 3 basil leaves and one quarter sized piece of mozzarella per slice - not cool. The marinara looked like they took just a tablespoon or 2 of sauce and tried to spread it across the whole thing - even less cool. Maybe they were in a hurry AND skimped even more on the toppings because they were running low on ingredients due to the deal? I dunno, but next time I want pizza, I'll go grab some gooey goodness from Fairmount Pizza for half the price and twice the size. All that said, the rotolo was awesome!

An excellent stop after some serious museum hopping. Pizza rivals any in Brooklyn and the service was friendly and fast.

This place was great. I've been to Vetri , Amis , Osteria so I was dying to complete the quantad ( I'm not sure if this is a word) but this place didn't open until after I moved out of Philly. Well on my visit back this past week I decided to meet my friend here for lunch. I was very pleased. The place is not huge : 3 bars , and 2 long shared tables We sat at the pizza bar , wanted to warm up by the fire. At 1pm on a Monday the place had about 15 patrons but the place looks like it could hold a max of 65. For food, we each had a slice of their vegetarian special of the day , it had pears , Gorgonzola , honey and it was amazing. We also split the wood grilled salad which was filled with warm veggies and came with a huge pile of ham. For dessert I was talked into trying the fried pizza sticks. I was soo full from the first two courses that I almost passed but I'm glad I didn't. These were the best little bites of doughnut heaven ever. Overall the check cNe to a little over $30 which I think was a great deal. I'm not sure if this place is better than Bufad but it might be. I might need to do a head to head tasting on my next trip.

At last, a casual eatery by the Italian culinary stallion, Marc Vetri. While the pizza is indeed very well executed, there were ample opportunities to fine-tune this fledging eatery. Wood Oven Salad (Toasted Parsnips, Carrots, Celery Root, Turnips, Prosciutto Cotto, Smoked Scamorza) - 2 out of 5 This is not a salad. There was no lettuce. I was expecting a vivid, earthy, and starchy salad, and received some hybrid of deli ham and a deconstructed antipasti. There are copious shavings of ham that form a bed underneath some under-seasoned, and overly greasy, unidentifiable root vegetables. I'm equally upset that this menu item is a misnomer and an oleaginous mess. Crudo Pizza (Prosciutto Crudo, Bufala Mozzarella, Parmigiano) - 3.5 out of 5 The crust was perfectly crispy, soft, and stretchy dough that was flavorful. Vetri excels at making an A+ crust that is both doughy and comforting while simultaneously minimalist and light. The top of pizza was a bit oily and the mozzarella was cold. Cookie Jar (Pignoli, Almond Cookies, Chocolate Biscotti, Pistachio Gnocchi) - 4 out of 5 $5 affords you a small paper bag with two of each of the four aforementioned bite-sized cookies. The chocolate biscotti were one of the best biscotti I've tried. The chocolate was heavily pronounced and elevated, I'm presuming, by the addition of coffee. The pistachio gnocchi were positively irresistible: moist and teeming with rich pistachio flavor. I only wish there were more... Ambiance - 3 out of 5 The space is smaller and the dining room shallower, than one would expect. There is limited seating and there are no plans to take reservations. When new guests arrive through the entry, the swing of the door sends a rush of cold air throughout the dining area. The added outside entry doesn't do the best job to mitigate the problem. This is truly a casual joint; don't expect comfortable chairs. While we were seated at the bar, we noticed a steady flow of take-out orders. There is a gas and wood-powered Renato oven, which renders out the pies in approximately 2 minutes.

A great pie in Philly! The resturant is clean and the service is excellent. The tables are for sharing which makes it a fun place to mingle. If in the area I would highly recommend.

I'm pretty fond of Pizzeria Vetri for more sentimental reasons, but the food here is great as well! I've tried all of the following pizzas - Margherita, Crudo, Melanzana, Salsiccia, and Quattro formaggi - and they have all been consistently fantastic. I think they're reasonably priced as well - each pizza comes with 6 pre-cut slices and I was stuffed after 3.
(4)Nisha D.
My husband and I have been wanting to check this place out for the longest time. The service was top notch and everyone there was very friendly. We sat at the bar area where we could see the pizza being made right in front of us which was very cool. All our meals came out really fast. The pizza's were pretty good however, given the number of other gourmet pizza spots in the city, I wouldn't say this is the best. I ordered then soft serve ice cream for dessert and it was pretty plain and basic. Something you would get at the boardwalk for less. For a Vetri restaurant I just expected more but overall, it was pretty good.

I read several good things about the Wood Oven Salad at Pizzeria Vetri. So I went there to try it. While waiting for my order, I finally noticed on the menu that it includes prosciutto. And it was quickly enough to change my order. So after waiting a few more moments, I got my order and asked again if it was vegetarian. They mentioned again that it didn't have any prosciutto. But it did have ham in it and I eat some. =( Putting the unwelcomed meat aside, I still wasn't impressed by the salad. But I'm sure at some point I'll go back and try the pizza.
(2)Jack M.
The pizza is good, I like the tuna, sausage and prosciutto. There are a few better options for brick oven style pizza in Philly. It is also a bit on the expensive side, compared to some of the other places. What really put me over the edge with this place was being charged $8 for a piece of Sicilian style pizza that had red sauce, only a small amount of mozzarella and pepperoni. It was my fault for not asking about the pricing, but seriously, one slice of pizza for 8 bucks ? Won't be ordering that again.

We went to Pizzeria Vetri on a Saturday right when they opened. I have seen the pictures from the weekend nights and heard about them running out of dough and I wanted to avoid that. The staff was friendly and the service was attentive. The space is cool and it's a little bit on the small side. We opted to sit at the Chef's counter since there are only 2 long party tables and we wanted a little bit of privacy so we could talk to each other without listening in to anyone else. They do play some cool old school music in there that is somewhat loud but I like that. On to the food, we started off with the rotolo and the arugula salad. Both were extremely good, we split a rotola which was a good idea because they are fairly large and filling. For pizza we got the Margarita and the Crudo. Both were phenomenal, the Crudo especially, the prosciutto is added right when the pizza comes out of the oven. It is sliced almost paper thin and it just kind of melts into the pizza. The dough is great, it's very much of a NYC za style pizza. If you are looking for a great pizza in a cool atmosphere then this is the place for you. We will definitely be returning soon.

Great food and great service thats consistent with most of the reviews already on here. I will point out that while the pizza is fantastic, the burnt bits on the crust do have a heavy flavor of gas from the gas that they use in their brick oven. It made a few of the bites a bit unpleasant. Thats the big thing holding this pizzeria back from 5 stars. Im also not a huge fan of community tables like they have in the restaurant. That being said I can see why they did it in the space they have. Its a small place and the community tables definitely help maximize customers. Cheers to Vetris! Great place!
(4)Erika B.
If you're visiting the Barnes Exhibit, this is a good add on to your afternoon. It's definitely good gourmet pizza. Great crust. The rotolos are probably my favorite. All of the ingredients are very fresh. A fun, casual place that also serves a good local beer menu. I ranked it a 3 because Its a bit expensive and the toppings never seem to be exactly what I'm looking for. Maybe it's the idea of a tuna fish pizza that turns me off a bit?
(3)John A.
I love wood-fired pizza so I'm a big fan of Pizzeria Vetri. I can see from the review that it isn't for everyone. For instance, if you don't want pizza, you should really consider another restaurant. This place isn't for you. If you want NY, Chicago, or Boise style pizza then it's not for you. The wine is pretty mediocre but it's only $24/500ml, which is not expensive for Philly. As for the pizzas, this is my favorite place in town. The pizza doughs are individually raised at the right temperature, expertly spun, and wood-fired to perfection. They're springy, light and tasty, just like they are in Europe. Marc Vetri uses tipo 00 flour, so this is how pizza should be. It's best enjoyed with a friend at the pizza bar, or as a group of friends, and it can get loud. Honestly this isn't a place for a date, unless you're both pizza lovers. Enjoy!

This place has been on my list of places to try in the neighborhood, and I can't believe it took me so long to actually make it here! I thought the setting would be more fancy, maybe less casual so I was pleasantly surprised to see that it was more laid back. They have a perfectly sized menu consisting of a few great looking salads, some whole pizzas and pizza by the slice. I ordrered the Salsiccia pizza ($16) and my wife had a slice of the daily special,($6) which was this salami and mozzarella sicilian slice (thick) and her and my daughter also split a margherita ($12). The slcilian slice came out first and wow, was I blown away. It was very thick but not near as dense at it looked/. The crust was light as air, just a great piece of pizza. My salsiccia was also very good, albeit a tad expensive for what it was. My wife also really enjoyed her margherita. They also have some great priced beers on tap, and in bottles/cans. Overall, I'm a huge fan of this place and can't wait to go back.
(4)Chris J.
Had both the Marghetita and the Crudo pizza. Both very tasty. I'll be back again to try some of the others on the menu. Make sure to get here early, not many seats and they will up quickly! Also - not much waiting space inside, so bundle up if you have to wait!
(4)Paula T.
Absolutely delicious. Waiting line well worth it. The meats on the pizza and in our salads were varied, tender, flavorful. Nice varieties and preparation. Salads were great with shaved cabbage and carrots, Brussel sprouts etc. Brussels sprouts and eggplant precooked trays full should be set up higher on racks in hall if that is where they had to be guys. My friend complained about concern for sanitation in that one case. That is the only reason for 4 stars. Exceptional tastes in my book.

We've been eager to try Pizzeria Vetri since it opened and tonight presented the perfect opportunity for an early dinner. We arrived at 5:40 and the place was packed - no space for a table of 3. Good for them being so busy during a time I'd still consider the early bird special!!! We put in our name and I got a text about 15 minutes later that our table (or pizza bar seats, I suppose) were ready. The service was fantastic from the moment we walked in. The hostess and all servers were extremely attentive and friendly. No one gave us a hard time that the 3rd member to our party wasn't there yet, which I felt bad about because there were people waiting for tables. I really enjoyed sitting at the pizza bar and watching the hardworking guys toss pies. We started with the gin fizz bottled drink, which was pretty disappointing. I was shocked because all the ingredients are my favorites, but it was just...meh. For the three of us, we ordered two rotolos and a white pizza with rosemary. The food was good, but not mind-blowing. I was super excited for the rotolos and those were disappointing. The dough on the exterior was seemingly overcooked whereas the dough in the center was undercooked. I didn't taste any pistachio pesto - just some crushed up pistachios. The pizza was yummy and fresh though. Overall, it was a decent meal, but I don't know if I'd rush back with so many great wood-fired pizza spots in the city.

I was staying with my friends in Philadelphia earlier this December when a bad snow storm hit. I was delayed an extra day in Philly that Monday and my friends had to work so of course I had to check out the restaurant right next to their apartment! Pizzeria Vetri is very small so I can imagine it being a little tough to find a table on a busy night - luckily I was alone during a Monday lunch crowd and got a spot at the window bar easily. I ordered the rotolo, per the recommendation of my friend. This is something I have never experienced before. Definitely delicious and worth trying! I also had Pizza al taglio and the kind they serve up changes daily. The one that I had was incredible! it had squash on it, it was perfect. Best thing ever. Overall, I'm a fan of Pizzeria Vetri!

i've tried this place twice when i was interning in the area. the first week i started and then on my last day. the department i was working with is so damn awesome and the director treated us! i've had the margherita, renato, melanzana and salsiccia pizzas. extremely thin crusts...crunchy and chewy at the same time. so delicious. i've also had the wood oven salad. also delicious. they also have specialty pizzas that change every once in awhile. great beer selections. they even have their own little cocktails bottled up to serve. super cute and i've heard that they're really good. when i'm in the area, i'd def stop by again.
(4)Greg S.
This place was great. We went early, and put our names in. The restaurant is small, and seating is limited. There are plenty of bars nearby to enjoy the wait. The tables are mostly communal, which can be a lot of fun or... The food was amazing, and great for sharing. The caesar salad was very tasty. Then we had the rotolo, which was probably a bit overhyped, but still good. Then we ate two pizzas: the crudo and the margherita. Both were tasty with a really amazing crust. Also, the beer selection was pretty good, and offered some unusual stuff.

TL;DR WARNING TO THOSE TAKING OUT FROM PIZZERIA VETRI: do not trust what's on your receipt. do not trust what's written on the box. open the box to make sure you're walking away with what you ordered! and while you're at it, flip over a slice or two to make sure your pizza is not completely burned on the bottom. i had dinner here with friends. the salsiccia pizza was the best of the bunch that we tried, so i ordered an extra one to take home to my family. i was handed a box that said SALSICCIA on it with a black marker and i was charged for the salsiccia pizza, so i thought that's what i was receiving. pretty logical, right? when i got home, i opened the box and found a completely random pizza inside - something with tuna on it! yuck. moreover, when my mom went to take a bite, she had to spit it out because it tasted completely burnt. we turned the pizza over and discovered that the bottom of the pizza was BLACK. i mean, i understand that it came out of a wood oven, and i like a little char, but nobody wants to eat a pizza that is literally. completely. black. we had to throw the entire pizza away. i was so disappointed that i didn't get to share the good experience i had at the restaurant with my family. that night, i called the restaurant and left a message briefly explaining what happened, i left my phone number and asked for a call back. nobody called me back the next day. so i gave the restaurant another call, upon which i was forced to explain the whole story to two different people, both of whom sounded downright annoyed that i was bothering them with this problem. all i got was "the tuna pizza and the salsiccia look so much alike; that's probably why someone mixed them up" and a begrudging refund. being a 2014 best of philly winner (for their rotolo -- which i thought tastes like a pizza hut breadstick), maybe the restaurant is so popular that good service is not a priority. the carelessness and rudeness certainly left a bad taste in my mouth.

Let's get the negative out of the way first... the portions are not satisfying. I'm not a big eater and I could always eat more. I've had the calzone (finished it, and wanted more food) eaten a pie and helped a friend with theirs (and still could eat more...) The redwood fired brick oven makes a quick job of the food once its in the oven. The crust is delicious and the ingredients are top notch. I've had the crudo, the margarita, a few specialty pies and calzones. Everything is delicious. That little drizzle of olive oil at the end of the cooking is the perfect finishing touch to the pizza. I had a bite of their ice cream and its awesome and the fried dough is my favorite way to end the meal. The prices are a bit high considering the portions leave a little bit to be desired, but you won't be disappointed with the taste.

The pizza here is delicious!
(4)Chelsea S.
I love this place. It's in my 'hood and has everything a girl could want. Fantastic eats, beer list and incredible service. It's a small spot but with counter seating and friendly staff I've never had a problem. Order anything and it'll be great. I had a calzone last time and could barely stop eating. What makes this place better than the rest is the service. Manager stopped by last time and dropped off some complementary ice cream that they didn't want to go to waste. What's better than that!?
(5)Adam L.
I went here for the first time and let me tell you, when the reviews say small... they mean this place is small. Enough room to sit 20 people, maybe a few more. There is also no waiting area, so it got cramped standing around for a table since it was raining out. The place itself though was very nicely done and the open pizza kitchen with the oven was definitely cool, especially if you sit at the bar. Once we were seated, the service was good and the waitress helpful with the menu. The pizza was fantastic! Perfectly done. Overall, this place is a great restaurant... but falls short of 4 or 5 stars because of the price. Pizzeria Vetri was just so over priced for the amount of pizza you got that it was just absurd. Two of us ran a bill of near $50. Pizza I feel just should not run that expensive unless Marc Vetri is making it himself. I would certainly go back here... but not very often.
(3)David D.
I give this resturant five stars for food quality . The kale salad and the Crudo pizza was outstanding. It is a very loud resturant on a Saturday evening .
(5)G H.
Wow oh Wow, yes I loved it. The service was great as was everything we had. The Yards poured were perfect, Rotoli ,Oven Roasted Salad and the pizza oh god the pizza were all more then we could hope for. It makes me crazy when people talk about the hype or being let down , come on were talking about Pizza here and dam it's good at this place. Thanks Marc and Crew, you guys are badass and rock Hard!
(5)Jennifer D.
Yummy pizza with great combinations but the menu is very small. The seating is family style, which was fine for our family of 5 on a pretty empty day but many might not like this. A bit pricey but the pizza was great.
(4)Jeff L.
Have had pizza here a few times before and it was good until tonight. Called in to order a renato, margarita, and melanzana pizzas. I asked the girl on the phone to please make them well done. She responded," we cook our pizzas in an 800 degree oven." (Did understand her response. All I could think was hey that's great) When we got the pizza they were not even close to well done. The dough was chewy, the margarita barely had any sauce or cheese on it. The other two pizzas lacked flavor. So disappointed with the no flavor, under cooked , expensive below average pizza.
(1)Cookie M.
The place is very overpriced and always very busy. Pizza selections are interesting - combos like pear salami are petty common. Place is very good but not consistent. I got the same pizza a couple of times and each time it was prepped differently. 1 out of 3 times it was not fully cooked through. I would recommend this place, but giving 3 stars for 2 reasons: 1. Price (12 bucks for 1 slice) 2. Consistency of experience
(3)Aruna A.
I'm a big fan of pizza, and as a result, I tend to frequent all the good pizza places in town. This is a good one - on par with Nomad, Birra, and Buffad. That being said, I'd find it hard to pick one between those if I had to. Vetri is a small space, so if you ware going with a large party be warned. We were seated quickly for a party of 7 but we came in on a random Saturday after the holidays for a later lunch, and the service was generally pretty good. Our waitress was helpful and attentive for most of the meal. I ordered the special slice, and the arugula salad. The salad was a little too salty - and the pizza slice a bit oily, but they were both very flavorful and delicious. I found the pizza selection to be good - but I could also see it being a bit limiting and not filled with enough variety. I might have wanted more options, but the ones I had tasted pretty good - so I'm happy with that. I also liked the extensive beer selection. I will find myself back there, and would love to try the gelato!
(4)Rob V.
simply great pizza, they have spoiled my kids to the other neighborhood pizza!
(5)Robert M.
Pizzeria Vetri is good, but does not, at least based on my first trip, really elevate the pizza scene in Philadelphia beyond what we already have (Nomad as the best Neapolitan option in my opinion). Good pizza in Philadelphia has still not reached anything close to the level of saturation found in NYC these days, so another good Neapolitan option is welcome. But overall I felt there was a lack of creativity with the pizza, the prices were a bit high, and the pizzas a bit sparse in toppings. We had the Margherita and the Salsiccia for our pizzas. The Margherita is the benchmark and it was good but not spectacular. Mozzarella was not that flavorful IMO, and as a result there's not too much going on flavor-wise. Crust was good which is very important. The texture is a bit of a departure from what you'd expect from a "true" Neapolitan pizza; the crust was on the crispy side rather than soft and bread-like, and the pie was sturdier than a lot of Neapolitan pies, which tend to be wet/droopy and require fork and knife to eat. Not a knock at all, it just depends on what you're looking for. I liked the flavor combo on the Salsiccia, but as somebody else mentioned there is a real lack of sausage. I mean, on one hand, Neapolitan pizza is supposed to be all about balance and restraint in toppings..usually your standard pizzeria uses way too many toppings and it overwhelms the crust. But the "restraint" here was far too much: each slice of the pizza had at most one piece of sausage, and one or two had none at all. That's not restraint, it's Vetri being cheap with the more expensive ingredients. This would be a great pizza if the toppings were applied more liberally. We had the "cookie jar" dessert on the way out and as others have said this is definitely worth getting. Nice variety of cookies and all are good. The food prices are not outrageous or anything, but they're a bit higher than the competition (~$1 higher per pizza than Nomad). Beverage prices seemed high to me as well. To me pricing is all relative to the atmosphere and level of service. At Vetri you are sitting at communal tables and the service is adequate but nothing special. So given that and the sparse toppings, I didn't find the meal to be a good value. The other general knock is a lack of creativity: given that Neapolitan pizza in the U.S. is no longer a rare novelty, I think to be top-notch you either need to a) make truly spectacular pizza, and/or b) have an interesting, innovative menu of pizzas. Una Pizza Napoletana in SF is an example of the first. Paulie Gee's in Brooklyn is imo a rare example of both. In contrast, Pizzeria Vetri has a small, mostly standard menu of pizzas and the quality is good but not mind-blowing. In conclusion, Pizzeria Vetri is a good option for pizza in Philadelphia. If you're in the area I encourage you to try it, and I will probably be back some time. But it doesn't really offer anything new, and unfortunately the Pizza scene in Philly continues to lag well behind what is available in terms of quality and creativity in cities like NYC and San Francisco.

I think this place will be much better once they iron the kinks out and the newness wears off. Right now the seating capacity is no where near the demand and they seem to rush everything to turn the tables over. We ordered 2 pies and a salad. They had everything come out at the same time so there was no flow to the meal. The pizza where good the crust was good but the escarole salad was terrible. The dressing was flavorless, the anchovies were old and had been opened for a while but the worst part was the greens. Escarole salads need to be the younger greens or the hearts. They server the main leaves which are tough and almost inedible.

Best pizza I've ever had, hands down. Try going here for early dinner if you plan on taking the kids because although it is kid friendly the communal seating arrangements don't feel that way. Their pizza is simple yet perfect; dough is so thin and crisp, cheese and toppings tastes fresh and delicious. I highly recommend the margarita and crudo (proscuitto) pizzas. Run there now.

After going to Osteria, I was very excited for Pizzeria Vetri to open up even closer to me. I've gotten take out a couple times since I only live a couple blocks away. The rotolo and margherita pizza are both really good. I recently ordered the meatball pizza al taglio and it was one of the best slices of pizza I have ever had - thick crust and topped with lots of meatballs and well worth the $8. I highly suggest getting a slice when they have this special. I'll definitely be going back!

So fresh and so good! Crusts are not super heavy and doughy and the dough is pretty thin on the pizza part. Would definitely come back for more. Esp to try the dessert! It's not cheap but the food is fresh and yummy. There are communal tables too

Inventive pizzas, over the top salads, great beverage list, and a few delicious munchies- this place hit the mark. I was in the mood for yummy comfort food in a casual setting and this is exactly what I got. We sat at the pizza oven, had great service by a young waitress who was knew the menu very well, and had a fab meal. Something about sitting in front of a brick oven watching (and waiting) for your food to come out is so cozy. Not as much of a place for kids or large groups; its a small place and they don't take rezzies. But for a casual date night, it hit the mark. A little pricey but quite delicious!

This place is still underrated not because there aren't enough people trying to squeeze into this tiny pizzeria. I'm saying this because their pizza dough is just so ahead of the competition and not enough people notice this. The pizza crust is able to soak up just enough of the sauce without getting soggy like many Neapolitan pizzas (hence the fork and knife) while maintaining the balance of puffiness, chewiness, and flavor. It's magical. This is definitely the epitome and pinnacle of Philadelphia's Pizza Renaissance. Normally, I tend not to eat the edge of the pizza crust because they are usually as flavorful as a brown paper bag, but not the pizza crust you find in Pizzeria Vetri. I can just eat the crust alone and still feel satisfied. I guess Marc Vetri wants to make sure you have enough of your share of gluten by making the crust as tasty as possible in our obsessive gluten-free trend. No gluten-free options here, in case if you are wondering.
(4)Kelly W.
Hands down fantastic pizza- simple and delicious wuth friendly and attentive service-- exactly what I want in a pizza place. I took away one star because we were told we'd have a 30 minute wait and they would text me when the table was ready. We went to Kite and Key for a drink to wait and they texted me probably 10 minutes after I put my name in saying that the table would be ready. We finished our drinks quickly and went back, just to wait 10 minutes in everyone's way.

Bufad is closed on mondays, didn't know that:( So after debating on a few fav pizza places, I decided on Vetri since it's in my hood. I've been once before for take out, so I knew it was good. I went and ordered there and waited with a glass of wine. It was actually a nice change. I ordered the Margherita for my son and the Melanzana. Both pizzas are simple and delicious! The only reason for 3 stars and not 5 is that the portion sizes are ridiculously small, beverages and pizza. Pizza is basically 100% profit, so why the robbery? The glass of wine, as you can tell is crazy small also. I'll probably be back when my fav's are not an option, Bufad, Santuccis, and because I live right there.
(3)Kelly V.
Delicious gourmet pizza. The dough was perfect thin, crisp, and soft at the same time. The sausage fennel pizza is the way to go!

We spent the day in the Art Museum area and wanted a place to escape the bitter cold. So glad we found this place! Awesome pizza that makes you feel like you're in Naples. We had the meatball special pizza and the Renato. Both were heaven. Light crispy crust with just enough cheese for taste - the way it should be. Good beer list as well! Definitely would come back here the next time I'm in town.
(5)Nick D.
I love Pizzeria Vetri. To me, this is just another fabulous addition to the Vetri empire. Sat at the counter and split a pizza and salad. The salad had roasted veggies and a nice, light dressing. The Renato pizza was very simple (mozzarella, rosemary, olive oil and salt), but incredibly good. The crust is exceptional. It is crisp on the outside yet very soft and chewy on the inside. Some people don't like the charred crust, but I am a huge fan. Great flavor addition. Nice beer selection too, which is very helpful when waiting for a table (no reservations and it gets very crowded during peek hours). One cool thing, though, is they have a system where they will take your name and number and send you a text message when your table is ready so you don't have to sit there and wait, although there isn't exactly a ton in that immediate area. Awesome place, fabulous pizza. Definitely worth checking out
(5)Louis D.
A warm spot with great pizza, to be sure. We got the sausage pizza and were really happy with it, it was saucy and cheesy and you can see them break apart the sausage by hand and throw it on the pie. The oven roasted salad was solid, though unspectacular. Definitely try the rotolo! It was full of crispy goodness and prosciuto cotto (which was closer to ham than prosciutto) and pistachios. Really, really good, and for $3.50 a pretty good size - worth thinking about stopping by and picking one up for lunch. The only blemish was that we only ordered three things and our waiter forgot 2 of them, so there was that...
(4)Peter K.
Know thyself! The pizza here is excellent, but it is for a person who is looking for a gourmet twist on the traditional. The flavors are subtle, and done very well, but as I am more of a guy that likes my pizza with a bang, I will likely not be back. Yes, I am a Chicago deep dish guy, and love Kermits. Service was great, can't beef about the price at all and liked being able to sit outside while the people inside with the air conditioning looked very happy with their choice also.
(4)Michael N.
Had lunch at Pizzeria Vetri yesterday. One of us had the margherita and one of us had the salsiccia. The margherita was fine, but the salsiccia was sparse. The salsiccia is fennel sausage, roasted fennel, tomato, mozzarella, but more accurately, it is a LOT of roasted fennel, a morsel or two of sausage, and the rest. Don't get me wrong, it was tasty, but not worth the cost. I think the little beers are somewhat overpriced for their size, but probably appropriate for the area and the mystique, such as it is. The cookie jar dessert is pretty great, though. 8 cookies and every single one was delicious and takes me back to my childhood. I mean, who makes kourabiedes nowadays?
(3)Margo v.
A wonderful lunch and really reasonable. Had a single slice with Genoa salami. Reminded me of tomato pie I had when I was a kid. Simple, delicious, perfect. The dough is wonderful and pizza made with care. My lunch was less than $10!
(5)David G.
I want to love this place, I really do. One the surface, the atmosphere is good, the ingredients seem top notch, and the pizza selections well chosen. But every pie I had has been to cold and floppy to really win me over.
(3)Jennifer B.
Open late on weekdays! One of the few places in the city with their kitchen open until 11pm. Love the arugula salad- pesto is fresh. Pizza is great, not a huge fan of the burnt taste in the crust. Quick, friendly service, and a great atmosphere. Can't wait to go back.
(4)Tom B.
Reading some of the reviews for P-Vetri reminds me why I despise Yelp reviewers so much (myself included). "5-star food, 5-star service, 4-star music (bad, loud rap), so I'll give this a 4 star"? "Floppy pies"? It's neapolitan for goodness sake. The dough, sauce and mozz on the margarita were exquisite and worth every single penny. Here's a thought, go to see some Modigliani @ the Barnes and mosey over to this gem for some al fresco delights.
(4)Jason G.
My favorite pizza ever, this restaurant is amazing. Even some dishes I didn't love were still good compared to other pizza places. You're going to have the best experience with the saucier pizzas, like the margarita. The dry ones are good too, however. I'm told that the ritolo is amazing from my dinning partners, but I can't personally recommend it to you due to my allergy to pistachios. The desert is also amazing. I highly recommend.
(5)Beth R.
SUCH good pizza! Pizza is clearly having a moment in philly, and when I heard this was opening I wondered if we really needed more pizza... the answer is yes we do as long as it's pizza like this. We had a margarita (for fair compare against all the other pizzas we've been eating lately) and a crudo. I am obsessed with the crudo - soft melty cheese with cool spoonfuls of more cheese, plus pancetta. It was excellent. Pizzas were on the small side - we ordered 2 for 2 people and it was the right amount of food. I like the decor too, exposed ceiling, cement floor, and open counter for pizza making views. I'm ambivalent about the communal tables, but getting used to that concept since that is typically how we end up when we go to Nomad in queen village. There are smaller tables outside, plus counter seats, if you like your personal space. One can appreciate how communal seating probably cuts down on wait time by seating as many people as possible. We had no wait on a Thursday night, although the place was quite full.
(4)Andrew L.
The best pizza I've had! And that compares to pizzas from Brooklyn, Rome, and Sonoma. Sitting at the bar and watching them make the pizza really brought home the idea of how sublime simple things can be. The dough is the star--chewy, airy, and crisp all in one slice. Add a few fresh toppings, fire it up with real wood, and you're done. The restaurant is also focused on its strengths, and doesn't try to do too much outside of making wonderful pizza by hand, ASAP. The place is tiny and loud, with a lot of energy and good, efficient service. I added a nice draft beer and made my meal a temple to the joys of gluten. I haven't been to Vetri, and I'm not in a rush to pay that much for luxury and formality, despite the glowing reviews--this is just right for me!
(5)Christine B.
I agree with others that the actual pizza is hit or miss. I had the eggplant one and that was awesome, but on a second visit tried the sausage, and it barely had any sausage on it. I haven't had major issues with the crust. Both times I have really enjoyed the special sicilian slice of the day. Most recently it had kale, and sundried tomatoes. The wood oven salad was amazing. I could eat that every day. Pick-up is super fast, ready in about 15 minutes.
(4)Joanna L.
Thoroughly enjoyed my dining experience at pizzeria Vetri. Then staff is extremely welcoming and friendly, and very attentive to their tables. It's a small pizza joint, but I appreciate the layout organized the way it is. Came with a small group and we sat at the pizza bar lining the back walk, directly in front of all the action! The chefs are whipping up pies and sliding them into the beautiful wood and gas fired oven. All of the ingredients are fresh and sitting front row to watch your pizza'a creation adds another level to your dining experience. We ordered a margarita, sausage, white pie, and prosciutto and arugula. The pizza crusts were crispy and the pies were full of flavor. The salads on the menu are also delicious and recommended. We tried the arugula and roasted veggie salad. Both were a hit amongst our group. The beer selection is also pretty solid. I will definitely be back!

Pizza was delish and it's worth going just for that. I had a special (fig and gorgonzola square pizza) and the Crudo and both were fantastic. The Crudo was a bit small for the price, but whatever it tasted fantastic. The crust was an appropriate mix of doughy and crunchy, and the cheese and other ingredients were top-notch. Also the food came out super quick and we were seated quickly on a Tuesday night at 7pm. The service and seating, however, I was less-than-happy about. The place is small on the inside and seating is mostly family-style on long tables, save for some outdoor tables and counter/stool seating. If you have a group of 4 or more, the long tables might work. If you are just 2 and want some romance, maybe don't sit at the long tables. It was really hard to hear my bf bc we were rubbing elbows with strangers and it was loud in the space, plus the people we were sitting next to weren't interested in being social (but of course that may not happen to you), so it was awkward. With the long tables, it also made serving awkward because servers had to reach over you to place dishes and clear them. Our waitress seemed off her game, which I'm hoping is just due to opening recently. She messed up a couple of orders around us, but always gave a freebie from the menu to make up for it. I'll be back for the pizza, but if it's just me and my bf we'll probably request counter seating.
(4)Gerald F.
5 star pizza. 5 star help. 4 star music. Too loud. Rap. Terrible. Shoulda. Coulda been 5 stars. Dumming the place down to rap is just not the real deal when the food is trying to portray italian truebe pizza. Wifey LOVED the calzone. Sooooooofresh.
(4)Manesh P.
A great place to visit after a few hours at the Barnes. It's hard to find good pizza in Philly and Pizzeria Vetri is really top notch. The toppings are "inventive" but also remain true to what you'd expect - really fresh salumi, mozzarella, etc. The drink list here is also really great. If you're not in the mood to imbibe they brew a nice cup of joe as well.

When I first heard about Pizzeria Vetri, I wondered why Chef Marc Vetri wanted to open YAPP (Yet Another Pizza Place), especially since they already had a good pizza spot like Osteria, but one look at the décor and I knew that this was a place I was going to like. You don't have to get dressed up to go here and the food is as good as any Vetri establishment. This is not the type of pizza place with 20 different pizzas that all taste like some variant of greasy parmesan cracker bread. Uh uh, this place is the real deal with its Renato AR/700S wood-burning oven calibrated by Renato Riccio himself. (I learned something new today: Wood-burning ovens are used to make traditional Neapolitan-style pizzas. The characteristically blistered, "leopard-spotted" (charred) crust owes something to the intense 900-degree heat of the wood-burning oven. The pizza is fully cooked in about 90 seconds.) My partner Robyn and I each ordered the slice of the day, a big Silician-style slice of culinary heaven topped with sliced homemade meatballs containing beef, pork, and pistachios along with chunky tomato, basil, ricotta, and mozzarella. The best part of this gastronomical goodness is the crust that was both chewy and crunchy at the same time. You could really taste the quality ingredients in every bite. For some people, Silician slices always conjure up bad memories of school lunch pizza. Don't worry, this is not that crap! Most of you, even the non-foodies, will likely find this to be one of the best slices of pizza you've ever had. Prior to the slice, we shared an order of cookies called "The Cookie Jar" that contained two each of pignoli, almond cookies, chocolate biscotti, and pistacchio gnocchi. The pignoli and pistacchio gnocchi were my favorites. I also had the Rotolo, a dumpling made with pizza dough, mortadella, ricotta, and pistacchio pesto, and the Italian Sloe Gin Fizz, a nice summer beverage made with limoncello, sloe gin, and Americano wine. *** 11/12/13 UPDATE *** Hmmm... The last time I was here I was told I could pick and choose which cookies I wanted in the cookie jar but the woman behind the counter (the manager?) forbade it. That's not good business!!! All would be forgiven if our fried dough was not super greasy and our "cookie jar" cookies weren't stale. The pizza was good, albeit not the flavorful, successful combos of past slices. Five stars for the first four times we were there; one star for the most recent visit (my partner wants to give it zero stars). I'm looking for some consistency here. Unfortunately, you failed.

Ate here last night (a Sunday) and we loved it. We had to wait 30min for a table, so we strolled around the Barnes Foundation grounds (right across the block), and they texted us when our table was ready. The service was super prompt-- the pizzas came 5-10 minutes after ordering. We got the margherita and the crudo (4 people = 2 pies, maybe 3 next time). The crust was fantastic-- so thick, light, and chewy all at once. The marg was good, but the crudo was the real gem. The prosciutto was so thin and delicious against the creaminess of the cheese. Wow. You've got to try it. When we want really good pizza, we typically alternate between Nomad and Pizza Brain. Time to add Pizzeria Vetri to the rotation.

Pizzeria Vetri is a 5-star without having to think twice about it. The restaurant is relatively small with communal seating, but most of the time you'll have plenty of space as it isn't regularly packed. The pizza here is by far the best in Philadelphia and Pizzeria Vetri is highly consistent in quality across their pizzas. (I've had five different pizzas? I think?) My favorite is the Salsiccia and I also love whatever they typically have for their pizza al taglio special. Every combination they come up with for their pizza al taglio sounds exceptionally delicious and the actual product is even better. The pizzas are always light without being soggy and are typically minimally dressed. This is important, because the quality of the ingredients and the care in the preparation of the pizza allows the flavors to really shine distinctly without the unnecessary clutter and calories people tend to go for. Each ingredient is picked for its bold flavor, meaning that only a small amount is necessary to get the full taste experience. Adding more of those things haphazardly does nothing to improve the taste one bit and instead weighs down the pizza and the entire experience itself. When leaving Pizzeria Vetri, I feel full but refreshed, not bloated and sick. This feeling is also aided by the FREE sparkling water that I always get which is delicious and unlimited. This is unlike some places I've been to that want to charge me outrageous prices for such a thing. They also have good root beer, a good selection of San Pellegrino drinks, etc. One drink that is very good that I often get is the Rosemary Lemonade. I don't see it often, and I think it should be more of a mainstream drink. Herbs are highly under utilized as flavoring agents... life is more than sugar and more sugar. In addition to this all, the atmosphere is quite lovely. The space is airy, the small space keeps it from getting loud, and the music is set at a low level so that it is audible, but you can't necessarily make it out completely unless you focus in on it. This is IMPORTANT because other places in this city (pizza places I'm thinking of specifically) BLARE their music so loud that I cannot talk to the person in front me whatsoever without having to scream. Even then... Still, I often find myself tuning into the music because I absolutely love their choices. I'm a big fan of 80s/90s "old-school/golden age" hip-hop and they play a lot of my favorite cuts. In fact, I don't know if I've ever heard a bad song here. It is also a nice showcase for how hip-hop isn't necessarily vulgar and offensive like many people may think. So, everything here I consider perfect. I've tried a LOT of pizza places in this city, including the "gourmet" ones. I have not tried Nomad yet, and when I do I will update this review but, for now, Vetri is EASILY the best pizza in this city. Their salads look amazing as well, but I've yet to order one. The service is very good and prompt if that is important to you.
(5)Kyle A.
Food was great. We split 2 pies and 2 deserts. The place had a nice casual vibe. It's really nicely laid out. Plan on going again.
(4)Pam A.
Oh dear, I wanted to love you as much as I love every other Vetri place. We showed up around 4:30 on a Friday afternoon, so there was no problem getting seated. The service was eh, a little indifferent, seemingly confused, but plenty of them. Marc was over working the pizza oven, so we were expecting great things. What was great - the rotolo - that was great. Our big sicilian slice was great too, our pizza, well, it was not that fabulous. It was a little less crisp than we are used to seeing from an Osteria pizza. Would I complain about this pizza, not normally, but I had high expectations for this pizza. The wine choices were limited - but very good. Not sure if its worth a special trip, I can't even believe I just said that.
(3)D J.
If I could, I'd give it 4 stars for the food and the service and only 2 for the physical space. Since I can't, I give it a 3. It's way too cramped. I don't like being squeezed into a communal table. I don't want to have to lean away from my neighbor just so I can hear the person sitting across from me. The music doesn't help, either. I'd just turn it off and let the kitchen provide the sound. The pizza is delicious, though (Crudo, Margherita, Quattro Formaggi). No complaints there. Our Pizza Margherita was excellent. Good beer selection, too.
(3)Steve I.
This is now my go to spot for pizza in the city. Excellent all around. The Rotolo is probably one of the best things I have ever put into my mouth. It resembles a cinnamon bun in a savory way, pizza dough, mortadella, ricotta and a pistacchio pesto, that is worth the trip here just for that. The wood oven salad was unlike any salad I have ever had roasted corn mushrooms and beans ringed by delicious prosciutto cotto. The Salsiccia pizza had a generous amount of fennel sausage on a thin but firm crust. The cookie jar had an assortment of small but very tasty cookies and at $5 not too expensive considering what these would cost per pound in an Italian Bakery. Nice selection of beer in bottles. Vetri does it again!!
(5)Allyson T.
I have been here three times- the pizza is tasty! I go with my husband- ordering a Ritolo, Cesar salad, and a pizza is fine for two. Their house red wine is pleasant; the carafe pours about 4 glasses. The community seating is quite fun, but it can get annoying when couples sit next to each other instead of across from one another...or when you are next to that one baby that crus forever. Either way, the staff is alway courteous and professional. The food is always tasty! Much closer than Osteria :-)
(4)Ed R.
Met some old friends for lunch and the pizza was great! We split 5 pies and had more than enough food for everyone. We split a Margherita pizza, sausage Sicilian slice, Salsiccia and a Crudo. The only thing I would have liked is if the Margherita had more basil. Each pie was very good and cooked perfectly in their wood oven. They had a very nice selection of beer and inside was small but comfortable.
(4)Carina L.
Food is fabulous but the staff could use a lot of training. They are terrible at doing 2 things at once, i.e. getting food for pick up while seating a party who is waiting.
(3)Jackie P.
One of my favorite pizza places in Philly! I love coming here and watching them make my pizza. My favorite so far is the melanzana, but you definitely need to order the rotolo, it's delicious! And for dessert, I recommend the affogato, or even just their soft serve- it's so good! They have good beer, and if you don't drink, their Rosemary lemonade is good too. I've been here at least 5 times and have enjoyed it every time!
(5)Cat N.
The crudo pizza was fabulous, as was the wood oven salad and the rotolo. I think our least favorite dish (which was still very good) was pizza al taglio, which had pears on it and was somewhat sweet. I prefer the thin crispy crust of the regular pizzas to the thicker crust of the slice. Honestly, I'd go back for the rotolo alone! Yum! Service was also good. Not a fan of the long tables, but we got an end so it was relatively private. Kind of loud, not a great place for (quiet) conversation. But I will be back!
(4)Jessica G.
Decided to try last minute before catching a movie downtown, and SO glad we found this place. We ordered two pizzas; the Crudo, and a one of the specials. We also got a Caesar salad which was large enough to split between two people. A con for some, may be the seating arrangement. It was "family" style seating ... we grabbed seats at a packed table that had an end and side seat open. Not sure it's the type of set up I'd like to go for a first date to have initial conversations but worked well for us. Also, a nice craft beer selection but other than that it's limited. The pizza really is amazing, would recommend to anyone I know.
(4)Lauren D.
I would go back just for the ROTOLO which is seriously amazing!! The pistacchio pesto is like crack. My mouth is salivating just thinking about it! Pizzas are decent, but very thin & small. Avoid the marinara -def not worth the price (ordered for delivery one night & was very disappointed and had to add a lot of seasoning to make it enjoyable)! The Crudo & Quattro Formaggi were tasty and were shared among 4 of us with 2 orders of the Rotolo. Very small restaurant- felt a bit like packed sardines in there on a Friday evening, but overall great experience!
(4)Steve E.
Have been here 4 times so far and each time the food was delicious. It did have a few rocky moments in the beginning (visited opening week) with misorders and slow service, however the 3 other times I've patronized, it has been consistently great. Tried most of the pizzas and decided that the Renato is the best with the margherita coming in a close second. However, the best thing in the restaurant isn't even a pizza, it is the Rotolo. Just typing the word Rotolo makes me hungry
(5)Sean H.
Was served the best calzone of my life within 5 minutes (on a Sunday evening). Very much worth it. The dough was light, crispy, and perfectly salted. The ricotta was perfectly creamy. Stupid.
(5)Cort M.
We had the margerita. Light and crispy crust, light marinara sauce, not overbearing at all, perfect amount of cheese. A perfect lunch before a stroll around the park. Excellent service, outstanding pizza and great prices.
(5)Jena L.
Delicious but pricey.. Is it worth it? I'd say sure bc it didn't stop us from ordering a repeat of what we had just eaten.
(4)Jessica P R.
This place is awesome. They don't take reservations, so expect to wait. Sit at the counter if you can. It's dinner AND a show as you watch the staff craft each pizza. Everything here is delicious, the salads, the brick oven pizza, and you should really try the Sicilian puzza specials too. Great outdoor area as well
(5)John H.
It was a good spot for lunch. We sat at the bar by the oven and enjoyed the workings of the kitchen. The cauliflower salad was great and the pizza was good. I'd probably only go back if someone mentioned it, but I wouldn't not recommend it.
(4)Michelle K.
The Fairmount/ Spring Garden/Art Museum Area was always in need of a good pizza by the slice place, luckily PIzzeria Vetri came along. When I walked in, I was greeted by the friendly staff. I had the vegetarian slice of the day and it was so good. It was with cauliflower, which is my favorite vegetable right now. This is the only place you need to go in the area for pizza. I came in here for a quick bite to eat, but I will come back for more pizza!
(4)Gabby M.
Great place! Service was good and the food was delicious; had the quattro formaggio pizza and it was a delight. Plus, the arugula salad, which was wonderful. Highly recommend!
(4)Michael D.
Cool interior, hip and understated. Not exactly 100% Pizza Napoletana, but more like a hybrid between American style pizza and pizza Napoletana. The oven is a mix of gas flame and wood burning, making the pizza crispy but also giving it a nice smoky char. Ingredients are top notch.
(4)David L.
Overrated. Just had lunch there today. Ordered the meat special that I believe I heard the waitress say was 2 slices for $8. I only received 1 slice and was charged $8 so maybe I heard wrong. It was just okay. Definitely not worth $8 for 1 slice especially when it's not that big of a portion. Maybe to a smaller petite woman or a child, but definitely not for your average joe. Will definitely not be coming back for a 2nd beating to my wallet.
(2)Laura D.
A great takeout option, when you're in the mood for something easy and casual, but more upscale than Dominos or Chinese takeout. Our order of 3 gourmet pizzas was ready in about 10 minutes, and every bite was delicious. I had the Tonno with tuna, grilled onions, tomato sauce and mozz. I love the thin crust, delicate toppings, and flaky crust. I saved half of mine for later, but one person can easily polish off a full pizza without being stuffed. I wouldn't recommend sharing one between two people unless you are just looking for a snack. My friend who spent 3 months in Rome has tried almost every pizza on the menu, and swears this is the closest thing to real Italian pizza he's had in the states. A little more pricey than say Papa John's, but in a completely different league.
(4)Dana S.
This place is alright. They make nice fresh pizzas with some tasty toppings. I wasn't a fan of needing to walk through the kitchen to get to the restroom. They also do shared tables inside, just an fyi. The pizza was good, but I've had just as good pizza elsewhere. The pizza of the day (if it was to your taste) seemed like a good deal if you needed a quick dinner. Considering the name on the door, I think I just expected a little more that would make it stand out.
(3)Jeff H.
This new Pizzeria is as good as it gets in the wide world of pizza in Philadelphia. The hype is warranted. First of all the atmosphere is cool ... from the half-moon bar surrounding the open pizza ovens to the communal tables and front window eating area. Large Italian pictures adorn the walls and the industrial ducting below the ceiling complete the effect. The extremely friendly service adds to the ambience. Then there is the actual pizza. Awesome light crust with great toppings. I had one with soppressata, leeks, mozzarella, and tomato sauce. Very tasty. And then comes the best of all - the Rotolo. This is one of the most mouth-watering concoctions you will ever eat. If you've never eaten one of them - take a bus, hop a plane, hire Superman ... but get ye to Pizzeria Vetri to bite into a Rotolo ... or two or three of them!

Returned to Pizzeria Vetri about a month after my first visit and was amazed at the quick improvements. This time around we ordered a rotolo and the Renato and Crudo pizzas. Definitely one of the best pizza outings of the year for me. The rotolo is ridiculously tasty. I really could not believe how amazing it was. Mortadella, ricotta, pizza dough and pesto sauce? Freaking incredible. The renato pizza was super simple, a delicate combination of mozzarella, rosemary, olive oil and sea salt was super tasty, and what is there to say about the crudo? Thinly slice prosciutto and buffalo mozzarella are a deadly combination. I also had an affogato for dessert and holy crap, simple yet incredibly delicious. Cant wait to go back again!

Place is a joke. The food was good, don't get me wrong but if I went back hungry I'm getting at least 4 "pizzas" and who wants to spend $50+ on pizza? More if youre getting salad and wine. Pizzas are small with very few ingredients. Be prepared to pop bandz.

Great quality apps, salads, and pizzas at a relatively affordable price. It's nice Vetri didn't raises his price point by a few dollars, something he could easily get away with. For the quality, $14 for their Margherita is well worth it. The dough is pilloughy with a slight char, the cheese and toppings are of as expected amazing quality, but for me, their sauce is hands down the best part of the pizza, and the best pizza sauce I have had in Philadelphia. Only place (for me), that comes close is In Riva, in East Falls. Additionally, they have a great rotating beer menu, prompt service, and a nice decor. I just wish they had more space as lunch can be difficult, and though not their fault, the sidewalk outside is severely sloped, making outdoor dining a bit awkward (I know, really reaching to find a negative).

Extremely disappointing service. After finally getting the attention of someone, we were told there would not be a table for a while but we could sit and order at the counter. We were sitting and still looking at the menus when a waitress came over and told us some people just walked in who wanted to sit at the counter and told us to get up and go back to wait at the door until a table was available! What sort of customer service is this?
(1)Allison B.
Decidedly underwhelming, but still good. Here are the facts: 1. Communal seating only. 2. Two kinds of wine: "house" red and white. Outrageously priced at $8.50/glass. 3. If you're not into meat on your pizza, you don't have that many veggie options. It's Margherita, or eggplant, or lots of cheese. There ain't nothin' green round these parts. 4. If you like meat on your pie, there's no pepperoni, or soppresata. Sausage or prosciutto only. Flavors are standard. Quality cheese, sauce and crust. Service is fine. I wouldn't rush back...from Vetri, I expected better.
(3)Chanel W.
This place has the most horrible seating and the pizza is sub par. The only good thing was the service and of course location, location location
(2)Lisa Y.
We ordered the special oyster mushroom white pizza and the rotolo to share. The rotolo was very yummy, crunchy dough wrapped in mortadella and ricotta and pistachio pesto on top. The pizza was good but could have used more toppings as other reviewers have mentioned. I like pizza crust but toppings more especially if paying $17 for a mini pie. Paired my meal with Allagash white and called it a night. Definitely looking forward to bringing my daughter next time as it is definitely a kid friendly place. Lost a star due to steep prices. $6 for soft serve ice cream, really?

Initial thoughts after entering Vetri. I'll get right to the chase, this place is a bit too hyped up, and quite possibly the worst restaurant layout I have ever experienced. Sure the decor is appealing, doesn't feel too pretentious, considering the clientele that visits this establishment, but really.. Have the take out/standing room/cashier jammed right up near the door and 3 ft away from a big communal table, whoever designed this place needs a nice ol' slap back to reality. We had a small wait, not a big deal at all. My wife and I grabbed a beer, and I must say I was very happy to see Six Point Sweet Action, but I was not as impressed with the $7 price tag, I can deal though. On to the pizza - we did the Salsiccia. Now, I must preface this with the fact that we have experienced Vetri Pizzeria once before. There was an hour wait, so we just ordered take out. I forget what kind of pizza we ordered, but that doesn't matter. What does matter is how incredibly floppy and soggy the dough was when we had walked back to our car and dug right in. This was so underwhelming, we were extremely disappointed. But, we gave them the benefit of the doubt and vowed to come back after a couple months once they figured out all the nuances, hence our visit tonight. So you can imagine we had high expectations now that they were a few months in. And guess what happened when the pizza came and we each grabbed our first slice? Pull it up off the plate and immediately half the pizza slice just slumps down. Completely soggy, completely unacceptable by anyone's standard. Now maybe this is the style, but I can't imagine any pizza should be this soggy. And certainly not for that price tag and reviews this place gets. Hence why I said up front, this place is way overhyped. I'm giving 2 stars for them having a nice atmosphere minus the bs layout, and the flavor of the pizza was not bad, but frankly not any different from the rest of the "high-end" pizza shops around the city. As some others have stated, price is incredibly inflated for what you get. Being a Vetri establishment, we expected to be transported to a whole new level of pizza but in the end were left disappointed...again. Hopefully they get their act together soon for their patron's sake, but I'm afraid we won't be back to find out! Good luck Vetri - we want you to succeed, but you need to work on QC first.

Outstanding crust and simplicity are what characterizes the pizza here. I had the pizza marinara, sauce herbs and garlic. The cheese was not missed. The bottom crust was wafer thin, with a nice char. The edge was puffy and full of flavor. I ended the lunch with a we drawn expresso. Bravo Marc Vetri, another winner.
(4)Jenny D.
Their pizza al taglio every day is amazing... Just Like u would Find in the streets of Italy! Looking forward to try their menu!

Disclaimer:I love Marc Vetri and everything he does. I came here the first day though and the food was excellent but the service was OK only. The food was good enough to keep that fourth star around. We tried the Melanzana and Margherita pizzas which were full of flavor and most importantly-they were thin which made me very happy. I love when pizza isn't overly doughy and feels so heavy. The real surprise for me here was how good the desserts were. I was totally blown away by fried pizza dough and ice cream. Obviously this isn't a cheap corner pizza shop, but it's certainly worth a visit.

Okay, okay. I've heard all the hype. Not a big believer in hype, but this one truly fits the bill. We're from California. On a chilly (frigid) East Coast fall day, we enjoyed the splendor that Pizzeria Vetri had to offer. GLORIOUS. in. every. way. We started with a round of prosecco. Who cares that it was before noon and we had a toddler in tow? We relished it. Then came the famed rotolo. YES. Just get it, okay? Moved onto the margherita, because really, if a pizza joint can't get this one right I'm walking out the door. This was AWESOME. Then came the crudo. Just as AWESOME. In heaven at this point. We may have also shared the special square slice of the day too ... but, let's not sound too overindulgent. Our sweet waitress sent us off with a comped soft served ice cream "house made custard" which sent my toddler into a tailspin of glory. I'm not a sweets/ice cream fan, so I can't attest but my 22-month little gal sure did have a smile on her face, if that has any clout. We'll be back, Vetri. Oh, we will be back. You can count on it.

OMG the calzone with prosciutto..... HEAVEN. Had to add that. I dream about it weekly.

Fancy Pizza!!! Is there really such a thing? I am by no means a pizza expert ( I normally eat it when I'm intoxicated so it always tastes great), but I was really impressed with the pizza I had at Pizzeria Vetri. The dough was thin and crispy, the crust was amazing. Wierd right, I always throw away the crust. The toppings are very progressive, don't come here expecting pepperoni or green peppers. More like fennel, butternut squash and some fancy sausage. Definitely one of the few pizza places in the city I can enjoy sober. Enjoy this place it is delicious!
(4)Anand T.
Came here for dinner last night and was really impressed. Once we placed our order it didn't take long for our food to come and everything looked amazing. We got two salads the arugula and chopped salad both were very tasty and fresh, the two pizzas we got were the margarita and the special pizza that had tomatoes and baby spinach with cheese which was really good and definitely was the highlight of the meal. All in all definitely a pizza restaurant I'll go back.

Ever since Pizzeria Vetri opened, I've discovered the following: -they're conveniently located right in the path of my evening commute home -parking is difficult, but not impossible -on slow days, it's about a ten minute wait for a pizza -the margherita pizza is delicious, even as takeout; the basil doesn't wilt, and the mozzarella cheese is to die for -thin crust is definitely my jam -I can eat an entire pie by myself, and still want another one. I've found my new bad-day-at-work-comfort-food takeout, and I hate myself for it. (Thanks a lot for making me fat, Vetri.)
(5)Brian M.
Not spectacular, but very good. A small, focused, approachable menu priced fairly cheap made by the top chef team in Philly. There's a definite beer focus here too. Certainly nothing wrong with that. My girlfriend and I decided to skip the pizza and try some of the limited other options. She had two rotolos which were really nice. Flakey, gooey, nutty, cheesy. Two was enough for her, but she is admittedly quite tiny so if you're a big larger like me and want to make a meal of these 3 would probably be a safer bet. I had the calzone which was freakin' massive but I finished the whole thing thankyouverymuch. Not that I should be proud of that but I was. Gloating my gluttony until I noticed the two boys next to me housing a stupid Nutella pizza for dessert. Fabulous.
(4)Carla F.
I have to say there is nothing I didn't like about Vetri's new pizza gig. The pizza is amazing (duh). I had the eggplant pizza and their slice of the day (with fig). Kind of different types of pizza but both equally good. We had a carafe of red wine which was really delicious (but I have to say, expensive, $29. Oh well). The place itself is designed perfectly. Its cozy but open. Clean, casual and fun. The awesome soundtrack was just a bonus. Try it.

So good! Been to Pizzeria Vetri twice so far since it's opening. Both times, i've been wowed. This is the closest to real italian pizza as you're going to get statewide. Nice charred crust, loaded with fresh, tasty toppings. Drinks wise, make sure to get an Aperol Spritz. Aperol and Prosecco, what could be bad right? The wine is OK. I'd honestly prefer a better selection, knowing what Vetri serves at his other establishments, but I understand the point of keeping this place as a in and out Pizzeria. Seems like their focus is more on craft beers, similar to Alla Spina. First of all, you must start with a rotolo. Those things are insane! Little bundle of joy filled with mortadella, topped with pistachios. I could eat those as my meal alone. Their pizza specials are usually the best way to go. The most recent time we went we had a pizza with fresh peaches on it that was to die for. Make sure you save room for dessert though, because they are phenomenal. You'll have a tough time deciding which one to get, trust me ! (we usually end up ordering them all, and taking them home since we're just too stuffed). The Nutella pizza is awesome! (that basically speaks for itself, its Nutella pizza, people) The Affogato is a must. Espresso with a nice helping of Soft Serve Ice Cream. The Fried Pizza Dough is what gets me every time. Its got citrus fennel sugar on every single bite. MMmmmmm. I see everyone's saying that Stephen Starr's pizza place is better than this place. I've never been to Stella, but honestly, I don't think I need to. Pizzeria Vetri is hands down the best in my eyes. Definitely give it a try !

Outside seating, beer, and pizza. What more can you ask for? The pizza is good, maybe not the best pizza I've ever had, but good. It's a guaranteed good meal. The place can Get crowded and they do sometimes run out of pizza dough, but you'll be satisfied when you leave there. Also, what you get there is fancy thin crust pizza, not Philly pizza. So if you like crust, this is not the place to be.

One thing I like is a good Neapolitan pizza. Thus, whenever I travel to an unfamiliar city, I always make it a point to try and find a good Neapolitan pizza. Vetri came up as an option both convenient and well-received. Luckily, I showed up early in the evening, as it got quite crowded. From my vantage point right at the bar, I could see the chefs in all their dough-stretching action. I went with the Renato, a very simple pie featuring just mozzarella, olive oil, rosemary, and sea salt. Typically a fine selection, but one that requires the crust to be perfect, as it has no sauce... And the crust was nowhere near perfect. It tasted great, sure. But it had no substance. Just an overly crispy shell of a crust that was so dry that I could only choke down four of the six slices before crying "Uncle." And despite the meager amount of topping such a basic pie calls for, they managed to undershoot it considerably on the amount of seasonings. Was there even any sea salt on it? I certainly didn't taste any. This was the first time I ever failed to finish a 12 inch pizza. Usually the thought of throwing away good food shames me into cleaning up my plate; no such concerns here.

Pizzeria Vetri is a welcome addition to Philadelphia's pizza scene and is a great lunch destination for those interested in grabbing a real high quality bite before or after a visit to the one of Parkway museums (it's only a stone's throw from the Barnes). I visited PV on the second day they were open which worried me a little because sometimes places need some time to get up to speed. Despite some harried chefs (don't have a heart attack, guys) ordering around the pizza makers now and then, everything else seemed to be working (and tasting) just fine. I was promptly greeted by the hostess and was escorted to a seat at the marble counter in front of the large wood burning pizza oven. This is the place to sit if you can swing it. Not only do you get to see all of the pies made right before your eyes, you also get to peek at some of the other pizzas on the menu so you will know what you want to try the next time (like the one with the different cheeses and the eggplant one). Other seating in the restaurant (which is pretty small and fills up quickly I might add) also includes a slightly smaller counter looking out onto the sidewalk and parking lot across the street as well as a few large tables with community style seating (a la Stella) in the center. It's very kid friendly and informal but very cramped when it gets crowded. Kids can (and did) spill stuff and there's no worry about making too much of a mess. And if you hate kids it's hard to hear them over the 80's rap music being blasted (think Village People and Salt 'N Pepa) in the background. Kind of strange atmosphere looking at pizzas, seeing big photos of Italy, looking at families with kids spilling all kinds of stuff and hearing "Aaaah, push it. Push it real good" in the background. Maybe a tactic to increase beer sales? Anyway, my pleasant server quickly arrived and offered me either tap or sparking water. I chose the latter expecting Pellegrino or something like that, but PV has an in-house bubbler like Zavino so they can carbonate their own. The menu at PV is pretty straightforward. They offer about ten whole pizzas (each has six slices...good for one hungry person or two dieting people). They also have one daily special rectangular pizza sold by the big slice, calzones, rolled pizza dough with pistachio pesto, and a few salads. Wanting to keep things simple, I opted for the Margherita pizza. It came out quickly and was top-notch. The crust was very thin (thinner than say Zavino and a lot like Pitruco). It was firm and not soggy (like Stella) nor did it taste like a salitine cracker (like Slice!). It was nicely charred in spots but not burned. The sauce was good, not very thick but not runny, as was the mozzarella and the fresh basil. I did notice that in the chaos that started to ensue behind the counter that one of the chefs mistakenly forgot to drizzle olive oil and did not sprinkle sea salt on my pie like the other Margherita ones being dished out, but it did not seem to affect the taste at all. It was clearly one of the two best (if not the best) Margheritas in Philly that I have downed. I managed to save some room for dessert and tried the cookie jar, which is essentially eight small cookies in a small white paper bag. It included two good chocolate biscotti, two of the best pignoli cookies I have ever had (sorry Termini's), two confectioners sugar covered almond cookies, and two pistachio gnocchi. It was a nice ending to my lunch and not at all overwhelming. PV also has fried pizza dough with citrus fennel sugar and soft serve as well. My bill for lunch was $24 which was not bad. I was a little surprised that PV charges $5 for their sparkling water (it's free at Zavino), but I guess someone has to pay for the bubbler.(which is not cheap incidentally). All in all it was a great lunch and I am sure I will be rushing back in no time. The food was great. The service was excellent. Granted, near the end of the meal it was like having a front row seat in that Gordon Ramsey show on TV, but I am sure that things will calm down at PV and everything behind the counter will mirror the perfection being plated and served on the other side.

We've read about Vetri restaurant and what an amazing Italian cuisine it represents. After reading reviews about Vetri's "family" pizza place we couldn't believe some few negative reviews here and there and strongly and excitingly directed our feet towards the pizzeria door. Well, let's say we were punished well enough for "not believing". From the first step in at 11am sharp according to our phone clock (when we asked if they are open the answer was in such a manner as they were doing us a favor opening their doors right on time, and we'll have to wait another 5 mins they said until they will be "really" ready) to the last step out of the door our visit was nothing but a BIG DISAPPOINTMENT. a) Food (Rotolo, Roasted vegetables salad and we meant to order some of their desserts, but after tasting the food discarded this idea immediately) was absolutely tasteless, oily and in point of the dough was the worst we've ever had. I am not even mentioning the size of the portions in relation to the price. Just let you guess ; ). b)Service: ignorant, rude, slow and not decent (the waitress was trying we believe intentionally put an extra item we didn't order in our bill). c) ambiance was very uncomfortable with grey gloomy colors, metal hard chairs and all together "industrial" look that screams in your face: "eat your Pizza and GO". Nope, this is not a place to linger with your friends and enjoy the conversation. Laud unpleasant music would not allow it as correctly somebody mentioned in one of the reviews. But we were "Unbelievers" so we are punished enough. Do yourself a favor and BELIEVE in ALL the negative reviews about this place and find something better for your cravings for GOOD ITALIAN PIZZA. Good luck, and if you said thank you for a good advice we'd answer - you're welcome!

After seeing Pizzeria Vetri's rotolo featured on "Best Thing I Ever Ate" on the Food Network. I HAD to see what all the rage was about. A few friends and I headed over on a Friday night around 7pm without a reservation. We were pleasantly surprised when we were sat right away at one of their community tables. Not more than a few minutes later we were treated by the sweetest, bubbly server (I wish I remembered her name!) and we were walked through the menu. We ordered a Caesar salad, rotolos, Salsiccia (sausage and fennel), Melanzana (eggplant) and Crudo pizza (prosciutto and mozzarella). The Caesar salad was underwhelming but everything else was excellent. My only complaint was that because of the HUGE overhead fan (necessary to keep the place cool from the ovens), by the time I went in for my second slice, the pizzas were already very cool. However, this will not keep me from coming back to try some of their daily special pizzas!
(4)Lauren S.
I've been here a few times and by far the best thing I've gotten was the Pizza al taglio with Figs. I wish it was on the regular menu it was amazing I even came back for it but they have a new pizza of the day which is to be expected. The other Pizza al taglio with the mushroom I tired was probably a close second for me in terms of pizza selection. The Melanzana was also very good. As for the salads the Wood oven salad without the prosciutto is fabulous. I got the Arugula salad since I had been eyeing it up on a visit and it was good but not as awesome as the Wood oven salad.

Every time Vetri adds a new restaurant, I have to visit it as soon as possible so I can say I've eaten at and enjoyed them all. Pizzeria Vetri was no exception to the excellence that Marc Vetri brings to all of his establishments. My friend and I went at 7 pm on a Tuesday and snagged the last two counter seats. The view overlooks the "pizza kitchen" and gigantic oven we've heard so much about, and our mouths were quickly watering over the pizza being made right in front of us. My friend and I split the Wood-Fired Salad minus the prosciutto and it was absolutely amazing. The salad is served warm and the vegetables have a nice crisp, and in some cases, a slight char that made them almost carmelized, but definitely excellent. We also split the Melanzana pizza. The taste was very good, but by the time I got to my final slice the pizza was a bit soggy. It may have been that I took too long to eat it than the stracciatella allows for, and thus it is entirely my fault. I paired my dinner with the Brooklyn Pumpkin Ale, which went quite well with our choices. The beer selection is great, both draft and bottles, and I had a hard time deciding. Our server was knowledgeable about the selections when I sought his advice, as most Vetri fans have come to expect.
(4)Tiffany L.
That hostess... so not welcoming. We most definitely got the vibe that she wanted us to leave. They need to hire someone else. Our actual waiter was not at all like that at least. But still, it kind of makes me not want to come back ever. Try the rotolo! Their pizza isn't thin crust, which I like. I had the Pizza al taglio, which is more like a personal pizza in the shape of a square. It was good but a little too doughy for me. Fried pizza dough - pretty good.
(3)Katrina C.
AWESOME! I mistakenly didn't review this place after we went and can't remember specifically what we ordered but I know I can't wait to go back! We sat at the counter and watched the chefs assemble the pizzas. I highly recommend that vantage point. Some of the best pizza I've found in Philly.
(5)Vash B.
Went here on a Saturday night around 9:00 PM with my sister. There's no one at the door who greets you, you just find your own seating. We seat by the window because we preferred to have a little space to ourselves. They do have a community style seating. The place wasn't packed at all it was pretty empty, i'm guessing we came at a good time. We ordered the Margherita and the Quattro Formaggi Pizza. Both were delicious but I personally prefer the Margherita because i'm more of a sauce person. Our server was great very attentive, checking on us a number of times and even helping us pick which pizza to get. Overall, I'll be keeping this place on my list to frequent again.

There are really two kinds of pizza places in the United States. There are ones that are made or modeled after Italian-Americans and there are ones that are made or modeled after Italians. This is the latter. The kind of place where you get a pizza built like a perfume. Faint but rewarding. The antithesis of this is the barrel-chested Chicago deep dish. You might leave Vetri a little hungry (though doesn't everyone's Italian grandmother say you should always leave the table a little hungry?) but you will be satisfied. The beer/wine list is good, though a bit expensive (but I'm noticing that's a trend in Philly. I was spoiled by Chicago I suppose...) I recommend finishing the meal with an affogato, the greatest of all Italian deserts. Well..maybe.
(4)m b.
Deeeelish! This place transported me back to Italy, home of the best Neopolitan pizza ever! This is Neopolitan pizza at it's finest in the city of Philadelphia. Thank you Mark Vetri!! The dough was perfectly light and beautifully charred. We also had one of the salads. It's a tiny place though and so it'd probably best to venture here at off peaks times. We went at 3ish on a Sunday afternoon. Perfect!!
(5)Jeff T.
Can't rave enough about this place. Friendly staff, great food and awesome ambiance. A definite must visit!!
(5)Nikki R.
Love this place, I live around the corner so appreciate the flexibility to enjoy a nice meal over a glass of wine and free entertainment at the Chef's Counter OR the ability to order to pick up. Staff is uber friendly and patient. I prefer to sit at the chef's counter but note that no matter where you sit in this restaurant, you are going to be sitting with another party or two. Part of the ambiance but something to consider. I appreciate it but realize not everyone would. Food wise, you MUST get: Rotolo ($4.50, increased from $3.50 but still a good buy), and then Pizza of the Day ($6 for vege and sometimes $8 for the meat option), the dough is fantastic.
(5)Lanette J.
I could be craving pizza and be walking by and STILL not go in again. I will say the ingredients are definitely fresh and service was great however the pizza is just plain not good. The crust is so thin that the pizza is cold within a few minutes and it was just a little floppy and bland. I wanted to love this place but with so many other pizzerias in the area I won't be going back.

Coming from NYC, I sometimes have a inhuman crave for really friggen good pizza. Which is why I was excited to try the famous Marc Vetri's Pizzeria...Also I am a graduate student, so given this is much more affordable than some of his other options...I shouldn't complain. Ambiance: I would describe it as a polished casual diner. That may sound bad but it isn't. It's a little cramped but my date and I got a seat at the bar, which we really enjoyed. Loved watching them make the pizza right there. Service: We came on a Monday night so it was not that busy. The server was very attentive and accommodating. I was not sure about wine from a tap (it was my first time seeing it) so she poured me a glass to try before I ordered a carafe. Food: It's pretty good. I won't lie. We started with the Rotolo which we split. It was absolutely delicious. Perfectly fluffy and melty cheese. And then we split a Crudo (prosciutto crudo, bufala mozzarella, parmigiano) which was the same thing but bigger and flatter. The pizza here is good, probably the best I've had in Philly. BUT I couldn't help compare to the top-shelf pizza in NYC for the same (maybe slightly cheaper) prices. Also, I was a bit disappointed with the choices. Yes all the staples are here...But where is the truffle pizza? What about Pepperoni (or is that to low class)? Also, I love beer and pizza combo, but I don't discriminate when wine and pizza is an option. Also I loved the red wine on tap, it would have been nice to have a choice greater than 1. All in all, this place is delicious and I will definitely be back, but it isn't the BEST it could be...Which I kind of expected given this is Marc Vetri's Pizzeria.

As another storied addition to the Vetri empire, Pizzeria Vetri slings out pies on par with the city's other Neopolitan haunts. The topping selections here lean a little more conservatively than do the options at other pizza spots, but there's nonetheless something for any palette. A good chunk of the menu is vegetarian-friendly, including the delicious melanzane pie with tender, rich roasted eggplant, creamy straciatella cheese, and tangy chunks of San Marzano tomato. The more carnivorous crudo pizza also tasted excellent and brought gossamer thin sheets of prosciutto cotto (more tender than its dry cured cousin) paired nicely with funky yet smooth buffalo mozzarella. The crusts struck the appropriate balance between thin crispiness and glutinous stretch, each bite offered pleasant chewiness, a good punch of fermented flavor, and a nice bit of char. The rotollo lived up to the considerable hype; the combination of nutty pistachio pesto, porky mortadella, and cheese harmonized rather well and made for a delicious snack. The canned beer program at Pizzeria Vetri is similarly impressive, and the draft beer list is rather small but well-selected. One major pet peeve I have with the space is its communal seating. I understand the purpose is to promote conviviality among patrons, but I'd rather enjoy my pizza in relative privacy than bump elbows and make friends (as curmudgeonly as that sounds). Truth be told, the pies here aren't leaps and bounds ahead of other Neopolitan live pie joints, and that speaks more to the quality of our gourmet pizza scene than Pizzeria Vetri's pies. Vetri's new place is thus a solid addition to any pizza rotation. These are five star pies, but minus one for the seating.

I popped in here with some coworkers for lunch the other day to see if all the buzz I've heard about the place was true. It's pretty small inside but we were able to grab the end of a joint table. We had to wait a good 10-15 minutes to place our order but the food came quickly. I shared the crudo pizza and a slice of the Pizza al taglio with one of my coworkers and it was AMAZING! The prosciutto melted in my mouth and the mixture of mozzarella and parmigiano cheeses was divine. I think it's a bit pricey but totally worth it. I can't wait to return and try the Margherita pizza!
(5)Jim C.
Very good pizza, although a bit expensive. Very simple with good quality ingredients. Worth a try ... will likely go back.
(4)Rodrigo A.
I'm definitely a fan of @PizzeriaVetri . The menu offers just the right amount of food and great flavor combinations. I ordered the Crudo ($18) prosciutto crudo, bufala mozzarella, parmigiano and it did not disappoint, They also have an impressive selection of canned and bottle beers that would make @phillybeergirl proud.

Over-hyped and expensive pizza
(3)Nicole M.
Pizza's my favorite food ever, so I was super excited this place opened up so close by. For my first visit, I ordered the benchmark-- margherita pizza, which was perfect with a thin, soft crust. I've also had the crudo, with prosciutto and buffalo mozzarella. So delicious. The pizza crusts are usually soft, which I like. We sat at the bar and watched them make the pizza, and I was very entertained. Every single pizza looked amazing and I wanted to try them all! They always have a few different pizzas of the day, which are served by the slice, sicilian style. The best one I've tried was with pancetta, mozzarella, and vidalia onions. These single slices are so fluffy but also crispy. One slice is super filling. The place is pretty small, and they only have communal seating, which could be fun for bigger groups but maybe not for 2. For 2, I would recommend sitting at the bar or outside. I wish they would stay open late night, because this area needs a few more places to go for late night drinks/food. I think the decor may be lacking a certain something, but it's just overall a very casual vibe. I loved the gin fizz cocktail, which is a perfect complement to any pizza. It was refreshing, and I ordered like, 5 because I didn't want to stop drinking them. Needless to say, I was kind of buzzed by the end of dinner, but that just magnified my excitement while watching all those different pizzas being made. Also good for takeout-- just call ahead and pick up at the bar!

Great pizza (we chose Crudo thanks to a Yelp review and it was awesome!), nice selection of craft beers on tap (I went with a local Philly beer) and good wine. We told our waitress we were just visiting for a couple of days and they took tremendous care of us- gave us an extra Crudo pizza (much better than it sounds!) that they had cooked in error, a soft ice cream for our daughter and a bag of yummy cookies to take back to the hotel all gratis. We sat at the counter and chatted with the guys making pizza. Super food, service and just nice people!

Finally made it to Pizzeria Vetri for the first time last night. We were there early, before the crowd hit, and who should be there but Marc Vetri himself with business partner Jeff Benjamin, so we got to chat with them (and they kindly comped us a couple of things). We sat at the counter (the rest is communal tables), and started off with some great beers (all bottles or cans), which is one of the strengths of Pizzeria Vetri (among others, Russian River Damnation and Perennial Aria, the latter was absolutely killer). They also have some Gotham project wines on tap, although I didn't try them. Did try a Italian Sloe Gin Fizz cocktail (sloe gin, bluecoat, limoncello, club soda). These cocktails are interesting: they make big batches and then bottle them in-house with paper tags instead of labels to identify their contents. Tasty and fun, but I'm not really clear on the point of bottling cocktails? More importantly, I quite enjoyed the one Neapolitan-style pizza we shared, the "Salsiccia" (with fennel sausage, roasted fennel, tomato, mozzarella). Although the crust is a bit unusual, extremely thin (underline extremely), but also light and airy. A bit difficult to eat by hand, but then that's why they give you a knife and fork in Naples. We can debate which local Neapolitan-style is the best, and I haven't been to all the new ones that have popped up in the last couple of years (shout out to my fav in the 'burbs: Vecchia!), but I'd definitely be a regular at PV if I lived nearby. Unexpectedly, my favorite bite of the evening was the daily special Roman-style Pizza al Taglio, which last night was topped with prosciutto and gorgonzola (and maybe something else that I didn't catch). Actually, as we were engrossed in conversation our slice got cold on us. So we asked them to toss it back in the oven, and what came out was even better than what went in, extra crispy and chewy at the same time. Let's see, what else did we have... ~Wood oven salad, with roasted parsnips, carrots, celery root, turnips, prosciutto cotto, smoked scamorza--I enjoyed this, crisp roasted vegetables juxtaposed to the tender prosciutto cotto. ~Fried pizza dough, with citrus fennel sugar--A giant bag, and delicate Blackfish beignets these are not! A fun, casual end to the meal, but I don't know how fewer than 6 people could finish this much fried dough. Finally, what about the famous Rotolo, an app with pizza dough done up like a cinnamon bun stuffed with mortadella, ricotta, pistachio pesto??? After the huge buildup, I have to say I was a little disappointed. Tasty, but I'm mystified about the level of praise this dish has received. In contrast to Trey Popp ("the best savory pastry in town"), I'd rather have the pizza. Service was friendly and fairly efficient, but it did noticeably slow down as the place filled up after 6PM (Wednesday night). I'd recommend going at 5PM to beat the rush (no reservations). Quite a bit of metered/kiosk street parking in the area. All in all, I really enjoyed our meal and will definitely be back.

This restaurant is TOTALLY overpriced for what you get. Tasty but our $12 salads were minuscule, my calzone absolutely empty. It was about 12 inches long and had about 3Tabelspoon of ricotta cheese, mozzarella on one side, and maybe 1 Tbs of marinara. I needed to ask for a side of sauce. I was brought a thimble full. The pizza had the least legal amout of cheese and the prosuitto was slapped on whole. Not well done at all. The crusts were tasty though. $113 without tip for 3 salads, 3 (5oz) glasses of wine, empty calzone and a naked pizza. Service? ok. We never are on Yelp but we were so ripped off.

Great pizza and great service. The fried dough and the affogato are also necessary. I prefer the red to white pizzas but both were good. Must go if you're in the area.

GET THE ROTOLO Yum, we stopped in for a late dinner on a Friday night, and were lucky to be seated within a few minutes at the big table. The people seated next to us ordered two of them, and they looked so good we added one to our order! DELICIOUS combination of flavors with the mortadella and pistachio pesto, and really you can never go wrong with ricotta. We also had the Melenzana pizza and the wood fired vegetable salad. The "salad" was warm roasted vegetables with proscuitto and it was perfect for a cold night.

It pains me to give this place a 3-star review because I wanted to love it so much, but there were just a few things that needed work for this place to be amazing... I came here with 3 friends on a cold, snowy night. It was pretty packed so we had to wait around 20 minutes to get a table, but it was not a big deal because we were at least out of the cold. The restaurant itself is small and can't seat more than 30 or so people, so expect a wait if you come at peak dinner times. They have a lot of good options on the menu, and one friend and I decided to split the eggplant and cheese pizza. My two other friends split the margherita. When the pizzas were brought to our table, I noticed that the crust of both was visibly burnt. I guess that's what you get with wood-fired pizzas, but I didn't really appreciate the burnt taste while eating my pizza crust. Other than the crust, our eggplant pizza was delicious, and my other friends enjoyed the margherita. The pizzas, though, were also smaller than I expected. And even though I ate 3 pieces (which is half a pizza), I actually left hungry. Maybe I need to order one for myself next time. Also, it was kind of annoying that one of the pizzas came out several minutes before the other. Of course, I understand that they don't want the pizza to get cold, but it was kind of awkward that my friends were half done with their pizza before we started eating. My biggest problem with Pizzeria Vetri was that we felt like we were being pushed out at the end of our meal. As I said before, the space is very small, but I do not believe that gives the servers the right to try to hustle people out immediately after they finish eating. My friends and I had taken over an hour to order, eat, and catch up over dinner. We continued to chat for a while after we had finished because that was the point of meeting up for dinner. We were sitting at a long table that was shared with other guests, and the couple who had been sitting next to us left. A server then put a bunch of silverware tat the table where they were sitting to indicate that a large party was coming and that they were waiting for us to get up to seat them. We continued talking, and a few minutes later, that server then took our water glasses away from us. At that point, we knew they wanted us out, but we stayed a little longer to finish our conversation. I did not appreciate feeling hurried to leave, and if space continues to be an issue, it would be better to expand the place rather than to have customers feel rushed, because they just might not come back!

In a city not known for its pizza, Pizzeria Vetri fills that void. This is the best pizza in the center city area. The aspect that really sets this thin crust pizza apart from others is the sauce. The red sauce made with San Marzano tomatoes is the best sauce I have had outside of Italy. When here stick to pies that have the red sauce base. The margherita is a must. I also tried the melanzana and the Quattro formaggi. The melanzana is great if you like eggplant, and again had that red sauce base. The Quattro formaggi wasn't bad, but it didn't have the same wow factor as the other two since it Was a white pizza without sauce. I also had the rotolo while I was there. Its great to start with and split with your table. The restaurant itself is small though, only having two large community tables and then bar space. Both times I have eaten in there I haven't had any trouble getting a table but coming with a large group be ready to wait. Or just get take out.

Pizzeria Vetri is the place you go when you want to hit a re-creation of the typical bustling corner pizza shop from Marc Vetri's old stomping grounds in Italy. You wouldn't make a reservation at a pizza by the slices place, so why would you make a reservation here? it has an open kitchen - and I mean open: you can watch the dishwasher while you wait for the restroom if you want. My wife and I sat at the bar. We don't usually sit at the bar but we should do so more often: it's meditative. This place is the answer to your lamentation, "I wish those corner pizza shops made great no-frills pizza with the right stuff from the market. I could buy that stuff at market and make the pizza myself, but tonight I'd prefer it cooked in an oven from Italy by guys who make pizza all day in a method Vetri taught them." Prices are reasonable for the concept - splitting a salad, two pizzas, a beer, and tip will set you back around 50-60 bucks. I didn't say pizza by the slice place prices! But let's face it, you'd pay the same amount at Pizzeria Vetri as you would at a place like Pietro's, but here you'll get the better pizza. music: Grandmaster Flash, Run DMC, Naughy by Nature, stuff like that.

pizza places like this warm my heart. and it tickles my fancy how this place seems like it could be planted in south philly. i hung up my coat on the rack of coat hangers against the wall and propped up my chin at the counter so I could watch the artists spin their dough. a quick tip you may not get from the general overview of the place: they DO have mixed drinks in these tiny cute little glass bottles. they pour it on ice in front of you. the mixed drinks are steep in price though: $12, but they use excellent ingredients.

No reservation nor call ahead sitting. We came here with a party of 4 for lunch on a Sunday. The hostess takes our name and cell number and texted us 20 minutes later. We ordered Margherita pizza, Renato pizza (white pizza) and Cruto pizza.

A solid pizzeria you can easily add to your rotation. I mean come on, who doesn't love wood oven pizza. It was about 9 on a Saturday night and the wait was about 10 minutes. We did have drinks as we waiting but felt kinda awkward standing by the counter/restaurant entrance. The woman at the counter did chat us up and gave her insights to the menu. I loved the dough of the rotolo and that garlic pistachio pesto. The eggplant pizza wasn't as crispy as I would have liked it to be. It tasted much better the next day heated up in the oven. The fennel sausage pizza was delicious. I could easily eat half a pie of this, sans the sausage. I had a nice glass of red as well. Do yourself a favor, check it out for yourself. I love the seats in front of the oven. The desserts are reason enough to come back.

The place is TINY which means the wait is long. Had high expectations being this is a Vetri place. My sister and I split the Wood Oven Salad - don't recommend it. The prosciutto somehow didn't go with the root vegetables. The sausage pizza was good but my sister and I both agreed we much prefer Pizzeria Stella. Try the Tartufo pizza there!

Pizza was good, but having just come from NYC and Boston I have to give this place 3 stars instead of 4. We ordered the 'crudo' and 'margherita' pizzas which were both good, but the crudo had a bit more to it :) . The crust was a bit thick, but I wouldn't mind going back for seconds. The desserts smelled good, nutella and marshmellows in pizza dough I believe, but didn't get a chance to sample it ourselves!

I ordered the Salsiccia pizza. I really wanted to love it, but the crust was soggy. :( (and I ate it in the restaurant). Maybe it's just me, but I like a pizza crust that can handle its toppings.

ONLY HAD TAKEOUT. Recently rated among the best pizza in the nation by the Huff post, so i had to give it a go. Definitely a great pie, but pricey and small (I'm a college student). Service was great as far as the little interaction with the waitresses i had.

Went with a friend last night around 6:30 and it was dead, so we chose seats at the counter. It definitely did pick up as we were eating and leaving, so I can see how everyone says get there early or else you'll wait forever. We split the Caesar salad and Melanzana pizza, both recommendations from the server, and neither disappointed. She was very informative and knowledgable, a little overbearing at times. The crust was thin but still fluffy and overall everything was just good, nothing spectacular, but I'll definitely be returning to try some more za at some point.

As someone who has dined at Osteria, Amis and Vetri, I am extremely underwhelmed with Pizzeria Vetri. I think the easiest way to explain the experience is by sharing with you my meal for two: One 12" Crudo Pizza (not great) - $18.00 One Caesar Salad (terrible) - $10.00 One Rotolo (decent) - $3.50 3 glasses of (average) wine - $25.50 After tax and tip = $71.52 I don't know if my stomach is upset from the horrendous Caesar Salad or the size of this check! Take my advice and walk 4 blocks to Pete's Famous Pizza and order a large $12 pie and a couple of craft brews from their cooler. Trust me that it will be a better meal than this and it will cost you $50 less!

4 1/2 stars. Creamy mozzarella, crispy crust, Lots of flavor. Stella's pizza is soggy in the middle. Nomad's pizza is close but you get the occasional crazy pants server at both Nomad and Nomad Roman. Both the food and the service here were spot on. Pricey but not ridiculous. A winner.

The best way I know how to judge a pizza is by the crust. If you can eat and enjoy it without the toppings, then you know you have a great pizza place. Vetri has an incredible crust, fresh, delicious toppings and beer all in a casual table service environment. Is it a bit pricey? You pay for quality and it is worth it.

5 stars for the great service, atmosphere, pizza and perfect ingredients! This place is amazing and it gets packed so make sure you go early. Nice wine selections on the menu and the pizza I had was excellent. Highly recommended.

After much anticipation, I can finally check this one off my list. Pizzeria Vetri was the Friday night destination for myself & three friends, for a low-key birthday celebration. Communal tables, and not too many at that. Normally I hate communal tables, but this wasn't terrible - at least there are chairs instead of communal benches. A few places to sit around the "kitchen" (aka pizza oven). A few outdoor tables as well, with heaters so they can still be utilized in the chilly autumn. No rezzies, so unless you come before 6, be prepared for a short wait. And no great place to wait inside - we grabbed a drink from the bar (a small counter right as you walk in) and hugged the far wall where there's a small ledge, presumably for drinks, though if you stand in front of it like a bar, the people at the nearest table can't get out. They have a pretty extensive beer list, including my favorite beer-in-cider-clothing, Anthem Hops Cider. (For those who don't know it - if you aren't a beer person but hate the sickly sweetness that too often ruins cider, Anthem Hops should be your new jam). Unfortunately it's like $8.50, but it's so good. A couple of wines and bottled or canned cocktails, but beer is definitely where they put their resources. The gluten-freebie in our group got the wood oven salad and absolutely loved it - and it certainly looked delicious. The other three of us split the arugula salad (a must-get), the Renato pizza (excellent) and the Salsiccia pizza (meh - it was fine, just didn't blow me away like the other stuff we had). As my one self-proclaimed pizza-connoisseur friend noted, their leoparding of the crust edges is perfect; but I agree with another yelper who thought the crust was soggy. Doesn't kill the experience for me, just something to note. Dessert was the fried dough (stop thinking about the negative nutritional value and just order it - hot, light, chewy, almost churro-like in taste, so delicious), and the cookie jar, which was sort of disappointing because all of the cookies are traditional Italian, as you would expect, but none of them were sweet and cookie-like in the way we uncouth Americans prefer. Best part of the whole meal: limoncello! Order it. Sip it. Savor every moment. Something around $80 including tip for everything for 4 people - not too shabby. Will certainly be back for, if nothing else, more limoncello.

I ate here last night. The pizza was great: we had the four-cheese, the margherita, and the special white with broccoli rabe. The affogato for dessert was exquisite. Very nice beer selection. My issue was the service. Perhaps our server had an off night, perhaps I shouldn't expect exceptional service in a pizza joint, and perhaps we had high service expectations for a place bearing the name Vetri. But our server seemed annoyed with us. I observed him waiting on other tables and he seemed annoyed with everyone. He gave us our check after one bite of dessert. Dining is not just about food, it's an experience. His service dampened our experience.
