Pizza
Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.
Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.
Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.
Italian Cuisine
The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.
Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.
If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

I went to Pietros over the weekend and it was well worth it. I had ordered a Large pizza and it was delicious. The bread they provide is amazing to and I also had like a chicken dish it had broccoli and a sauce I think white wine sauce. It was amazing I would definitely go to Pietros on south Street. The price won't stop me from going again

If you are looking for a good pizza place near Penn's Landing, this is a great option. Pizza was good, cute place and the fresh bread was amazing. The line when we were leaving was getting long so I would recommend going earlier in the evening.

The food was mediocre. We ordered the spicy calamari and sausage. The sauce was too salty. The barese pizza with the sausage was just ok. Nothing spectacular about it at all! The desserts were the highlight of the meal. Orange sorbet and tiramisu. The sorbet was served in a carved out orange which I thought was pretty awesome. The tiramisu was reasonably good as well. The service was slow. Like really really slow. We sat in the bar area outside. In town for the holiday but wouldn't return again.

What a great Italian spot! I've been here a number of times and have always been pleased. I've been on weekdays during lunchtime, and Saturday nights...there's never a wait! I don't understand why, the place is always satisfying! There are TVs for sports and great bread to accompany your meal. I'm a big fan of the Lasagna Bolognese, but the pizza is terrific too! It's quiet here for dining on a date with a nice little bar area if you'd like to go that route.

My family and I came here while in town for a fast pitch softball tournament for our daughter. We stopped here while walking because my daughter wanted Pizza and I an soo happy she did..this has got to be some of the best pizza I have ever had and we just had the 4 cheese pizza I am scared of what would have happened if we got some toppings (would have never left). If you are in area please stop by and eat here you will not be sorry.

I live in the neighborhood and walk past Pietros at least twice a day. On Saturday afternoon I watched two bus boys chase a gigantic rat out of the front door of the restaurant with a broom while laughing. Eat at your own risk!

Decided to take a stroll down South Street and thought this place would be a good choice. Thankfully my instincts were correctly. We started with the calamari. It was a little chewier than preferred but flavorful and the marinara dipping sauce was perfect. We followed that up with a margarita pizza with half chicken sausage. It was excellent!! Definitely made the nine block walk worthwhile.

Come here for the pizza. My favorite is the pietro's classic signature pizza. The crust is great and they give ample portions of prosciutto and arugula, which some other local pizza places seem to skimp on. The cheese is also really good, not sure what it is about it, but I love the salty quality it brings to the pizza. Like other reviewers have mentioned, the fact that you can't alter the signature pizzas or get them in other sizes is soooo Busch League. However, one should question their motives in trying to alter something as good as the pietro's classic.

As a preface, I came here with a group of about 20 people, and our menu was preset. However, I still think this allowed me to try a variety of their dishes and I got a good feel of what this restaurant is like. The restaurant is pretty big, and is able to accommodate big groups well. We were given our own space which was nice. For our appetizer, we got some two types of salad, one being a Caesar, and the other one some sort of garden salad. They were okay - nothing special. The rolls that they served us were kind of hard, and weren't very good. We also got margherita pizza, which was very good. Since the place is a pizzeria, I would say that the pizza is definitely your best bet. For our main course, we got some penna vodka, and eggplant parmesan. Both were above average, though tasted like what you would get at your run-of-the-mill Americanized Italian restaurant. The dessert included tiramisu and cheesecake, both of which were, frankly, terrible. The tiramisu was like some sort of dry cake with cream on top, and the cheesecake was not flavorful. Overall, I feel like this is a pretty average Italian restaurant, but a pretty good pizza place.

I havent eaten inside for maybe 10 years but yesterday my girlfriend went there for baby shower and brought me back a whole fresh pizza. From the crust to the cheese and the home made sauce, its very evident how fresh it was. I dont eat pizza that frequently just because of the carbs, but this is one of the best pies I have ever tried. I had it with mushrooms and sausage and it was delicious. I will come here for lunch soon to try some other food.

Very noisy!! There was a large group next to us so that might have been the problem. We were immediately seated (tables on the small side). Waitress took our drink order and fresh bread was brought to the table ( still warm - yum). We ordered the bruschetta as an appetizer. Very good. We ordered a large pizza. Excellent. The pepperoni was a ticker cut and everything was fresh. I would highly recommend this restaurant. Service was great.

I've dined here twice in the past few months at two different Philly locations- I had consistently positive experiences both times. I ordered the chicken Parm both times which was very good- instead of getting the traditional spaghetti that usually comes with it I opted for penne in vodka sauce which was very good! I also had the white sangria to drink which was delicious! Our dinner companions had the pizza and various other pasta dishes on the menu- all of which were very good. Both times visiting this restaurant my dinner companions and myself left happy and satisfied with our meals. If you are in the mood for good Italian food with a causal atmosphere in the Philly area this is a great option!

Came here for the first time last weekend and I definitely like this place. Everything about this place was really good I liked the atmosphere and the wait staff were really nice, and our food came out on time so we were able to eat all of our food and just enjoy everything and the group of friends that we were with. The food was amazing, everything I had was really good. I had gotten a medium pizza. The pizza was very filling and took me sometime to finish it unlike other pizza places that ive been to wear I just eat one and be full, I hate five and was very satisfied and every bite was better than the next. All in all this a very good restaurant but only downside is it's an upscale olive garden that serves pizza.
(4)Nina B.
Food was really good! The bread was nice and warm. We shared the Mediterranean salad, it was huge and dressed very well. My hubby had the chicken parm and loved it. I had the stuffed meatballs and it was delicious. With me there is always room for dessert!! The highlight was the cannoli.... Mmm mmm mmmm! You cannot leave without getting it. I didn't expect inside to be so big and the decor was nice. I'll be back.
(4)Vince C.
The pizza is really good, with a few caveats. First, their signature pizzas are awesome. They are perfectly cooked and delicious. However, there are a lot of rules here. You can't get the signature pizzas in any other size. You can't modify the pizza in any way, even if you offer to pay extra. You can't get bacon on your pizza unless it is on a signature pizza. So for a party of three, you can have a light meal or order two, instead of just ordering a large. Weird. However, again, the pizzas are really good. That's what keeps it four stars in my book. The service has always been really pleasant and fast. They work hard in there. The place is always spotless inside. I wouldn't recommend eating outside though. I always notice a strong cat urine smell outside of the place. Probably not their fault since it is outside. I'd rather eat in the super clean inside which smells of delicious garlic and bread and not the outside which just smells.
(4)Alison L.
Atmosphere is perfect for a date night with low lighting, Italian veranda decor and big dishes to share. The bread was not the best: hard on the outside and not very soft on the inside. Pretty chewy, but not the "oh this is amazing" kind of chewy. The smaller sized mediterranean salad was large and came with a nice balance of greens, yellow bell peppers, olives, sweet onions shavings, grape tomatoes and dressing. The cheese ravioli was tasty, though it doesn't seem like it would be enough to fill a hungry stomach. I didn't know this restaurant had multiple locations, but it's comparable to a Maggiano's, but definitely better than, say, a Macaroni Grill. I'd come back again for another date night because of its convenient location on South Street and because it's great for sharing.

I can't believe I haven't reviewed Pietro's yet! I have only had Pietro's about a dozen times, solely because of the close proximity that it is to my home. If you order the pizza or the soup, you are safe. If you try to be fancy and get a pasta dish - good luck, it will be very average, Italian-American cuisine. The coal oven pizzas are pretty decent, crust is relatively thin but not too thin, the toppings are decent and fresh, but are costly! If you want a pizza with the works, you will be looking at at least $20. The calzones aren't bad but ask for extra dipping sauce. The soup is good and the rolls that come with the soup are so soft and warm! Their beer list is very average. They have a nice amount of outdoor seating, perfect for people watching all the weirdos heading up South Street.
(3)Karen G.
This place was empty on a Thursday night. We had to reorder beer 2xs because they were out of what we wanted. I hope business picks up for the weekend. We had the small Caesar Salad and Pizza. The salad was cold and crisp, the dressing was homemade with large chunks of cheese and croutons. The pizza crust was perfect and made with fresh mozzarella and basil. I'm impressed! I'll be back!

While we were in Philadelphia and strolling around, we stumbled in to Pietro's while walking up and down the South Street area. We weren't really in the mood for something heavy and we wanted a bar where we could sit and relax. So Pietro's it was! When we got to the restaurant around 3:30, the restaurant was virtually empty, but the hostess who bounced back and forth between the hostess stand and her cell phone she kept charging behind the bar. We sat at the bar and waited for the bartender for a solid couple of minutes. We ordered two beers and although Hubs got his rather quickly, mine sat under the taps as the bartender left the pour to tend to a service drink order. Only, she forgot about my drink and it sat there for a few minutes until I had to politely ask. We split the arancini appetizer. The marinara sauce was nothing special, but the arancini itself was quite delicious. For an appetizer, it was perfect to split because it was just enough, especially when the bread basket came out! We also split a simple medium cheese pizza. It came straight from the oven to the bar and was served HOT. My favorite was that although the crust was a little thick, there was a distinct crunch to it and that made it all the better. The sauce wasn't memorable, but it was clear that the cheese fresh and certainly not processed and that's what saved this review from 2-stars. The food was decent, the pizza was delicious, but the service left a lot to be desired. As mentioned previously, we were practically the only ones in the bar and it was just us and the bartender and the hostess who kept moving from the hostess stand to her cell phone behind the bar. When the second bartender showed up, we could hear their conversation about their previous night's drinking escapades. Lovely. It wasn't a cheap lunch by any means, but it hit the spot and the food (overall) warranted the price for a quick and easy meal.

Pietro's advertises itself as a coal oven pizzeria - and that namesake oven is housed in the back of the house. There are plenty of tables at Pietro's as well as a front-of-the-house bar where you can watch the game. If you read the reviews on Yelp, you'll notice that service may be a potential limiting factor to this establishment. True to form, service was sub-par on our recent visit. The hostess was not necessarily friendly, but then again, not necessarily impolite. Our server was similarly disinterested and while first speaking to us, half-gazed out to the street. A lady at a nearby table - clearly in a rush - was asking for her check for nearly 5 minutes before she was able to pay and be on her way. Separately, a party had walked out the door after lunch and a harried waitress ran after them as there seemed to be issues with the check (non-payment? lack of a tip?). Either way, the waitress was in a huff and was not a happy camper. My point - the atmosphere at Pietro's was harried, huffy, though not necessarily hostile to us. We were hoping the food would overcome what is clearly delineated in the majority of the reviews on Yelp - service could be better. Breaded Goat Cheese ($8.50) Sautéed breaded goat cheese served with arugula and roasted peppers. The breaded goat cheese was a nice surprise. Crispy and lightly fried - the tangy goat cheese was delicious. It was offset by the peppery arugula and sweet roasted peppers. The salad was well-dressed and not overly so. A nice start to the meal. (FYI - they offer fried mozzarella as well, which I'm sure would be quite similar in execution). Fried Calamari ($10.50) Tender squid rings, lightly seasoned served with marinara sauce. This was actually a misorder on my end - I was actually looking to order the the spicy calamari, which is sauteed with sausage as well. The regular fried calamari was decent however. The squid rings were tender - and true to the description - they were only lightly seasoned and thinly fried. I prefer a little more crispy batter to my calamari, but these were true to the squid. I wished there were tentacles as well, but alas - I should read the description better (the spicy calamari does not specify 'rings'). The marinara, however, was delicious - somewhat sweet, but well seasoned. Fettucine Carbonara - Small ($13.00) Fettucine in a creamy carbonara sauce with red onions, green peas, shiitake mushrooms, pecorino cheese, and pork pancetta. Our server did mention that the carbonara had pork pancetta in it (I mean, what carbonara doesn't?) - for those not used to pasta tossed with a fresh egg, cheese, and pancetta - this can be appreciated. My liberal use of pancetta in everything from Mac n Cheese to burger patties was offended just a tad. My simplified pork ethos in diminishing order is as follows: Pork Belly, Guanciale, Pancetta, Bacon. In any case, while this is all in jest, the dish itself was a bit of a joke as well. The carbonara was overly sauced - I had expected a carbonara to have the egg/cheese mixture simply clinging to the pasta, but this dish was drenched in cream sauce - clearly depicted in the picture above and, I suppose, in the description of the dish. This version is advertised with fettuccine, which was green (carbonara is usually made with spaghetti). The shiitake mushrooms imparted a slightly earthy flavor, which the GF was not fond of, but was fine with me. However, the entire dish was simply offendingly overtaken by a sweetness I could not quite place - I was not a fan. What is the point of succulent pancetta and salty Pecorino Romano when the dish is overpowered by sweetness? After a few bites, we were done. This was unfortunate, as I was thinking about a good carbonara for a few weeks now. Asparagus Pizza ($16.00) 13'' white pizza with ham and asparagus The namesake pizza was the saving grace of the meal. This pizza had salty ham and shaved asparagus on top of a white pizza. The crust was nice and you could taste the flavor the coal oven imparted onto the dough. Deliciously crispy at Pietro's and at home when I warmed it up in the oven for dinner later that night. Overall, Pietro's was disappointing. I would come back for the breaded goat cheese (perhaps the mozzarella next time) and the pizza. Definitely was not a fan of the carbonara and have had better calamari. Pietro's service can also improve as well. I would say that Pietro's is middling between a bistro-type atmosphere and a chain joint where service is unenthusiastic. Hopefully, it will move more toward the former.

I've been eating here since high school. If you're looking for cheaply priced Italian foods, eat here! The brick oven baked pizza is good. Now a days I visited her perhaps 1-2 times a year. Nothing to die for but a easy place to be at.
(3)Matt G.
I have always liked this place. Though I want to see if I can get confirmation on something: I think the Greco pizza tastes like Kraft macaroni and cheese. I mean this in a good way. Can anyone confirm this for me? Big portions, very casual atmosphere. Good for kids. I recommend the chicken and shrimp pasta dish. One of my favorite dishes in Philly.
(5)Frank L.
This pizza place is excellent and clean. It gives you that true italian feel and the atmosphere is very nice. If you are looking for some delicious italian food on south street, this place is not sketchy at all, its a bit pricey though but worth it compared to some of the other pizza places in the area
(5)Marissa P.
Very good food! clean and quick. A little pricey for a big family and portions small for the teens in our family.
(4)Aye M.
Went here with my boyfriend for the first time last Saturday. It was pretty busy but we were seated right away. Our waitress was ready to help us within two minutes and we ordered our drinks! Quick service :) I ordered the arugula salad & my boyfriend got a medium pepperoni pizza. The honey olive oil dressing on my salad was lovely. Best dressing I've ever had! And the mixture of the sweet with the red peppers was fabulous. I tried a small slice of the pizza and it was great! Definitely would've had more but the salads are huge and I ate most of it! Would definitely come back! Oh, and the decor was so cute!
(5)Raja T.
This is how Italian food should be. Simple, delicious with great big portions! This place has a very chill vibe and is about the food for sure. The pasta was cooked perfectly. Definitely would go again
(5)Sarah C.
Don't let it's location on South Street fool you...this is not a chain. Some of the best Pizza in the city, very comparable to what you'll find in most of southern Italy. Their pastas are good, not phenomenal, but definitely worth it. Best features are the excellent pizzas and outstanding apps. And, price. It's excellent food and doesn't cost a ton. The drinks are a little costly, but, that's just how it is in philly. I prefer the atmosphere of the south street location to the one in center city, but they're all very nice (nj location included)
(4)Amanda W.
Great restaurant atmosphere and great food across the entire menu. I have went there to eat multiple times and order delivery from them quite often (the delivery comes hot and just as good as if you were to sit on the table). Their sauteed calamari and sausage off the appetizer menu is one of my favorites items. Their salads are all crisp and awesome, the best is their poached chicken salad. Their rolls and oil are good, and their meals have always been great too! I have also done family style with a large group. The amount of food they gave was ENORMOUS! their prices are very good. During the nicer seasons they offer outside seating on one of the more nice blocks of South Street and open up their front window panes. Absolutely nothing bad to say about this place.
(5)Greg L.
Stopped in here for dinner with the kids on a Sunday early evening. I was surprised by how big the place was (2-stories) with both indoor and some outdoor seating. The place was cutely decorated on the inside, giving it a little Italian flair. The place was pretty empty when we arrived, so we were quickly seated. They do give you bread to start things off and their is oil at the table that you can use to dip the bread into. Overall, we thought the rolls were just OK and certainly nothing special. We went with the mozzarella sticks with Mariana sauce for appetizers and you could tell that these were fresh and not frozen. The sauce was really tasty as well. Their pizza's are cooked in a coal fired oven, so for dinner, the kids shared a cheese pizza while we went with the Napoli specialty pizza, which consisted of baby spinach, pine nuts, sun dried tomato's, and mozzarella. Again, this is fresh mozzarella on the pizza and definitely delicious. My kids are picky eaters so we ordered the plain cheese pizza for them, not realizing that it would also come out sort of fancy with basil on top of the pizza. We had to pick all of that stuff off before they would touch it. Just a heads up in case you have picky eaters with you. There is also a limited kids menu with some pasta dishes on it. Overall, the place is kid friendly in that it's on the louder side in there, but they don't have any activity books or anything to keep your children entertained while you wait for your meal. Service was just OK throughout the meal. We had to ask for refills, which annoys me to no end. Considering that the place was by no means busy, I would have liked a bit more attentive service.
(4)Payal P.
pizza, pasta, you really can't go wrong here. all the food is great and the value is even better! i love open kitchens and cheap bottles of wine. it is always packed so that is a good sign and they have tons of outdoor seating!
(5)Deirdre M.
Really great restaurant with a very cute interior. Felt like I was in Italy! I had linguine with chicken and shrimp in a creamy tomato sauce and it knocked it out of the park. The bread was also delicious and it arrived at the table so fresh and hot we had to wait for it to cool down before we could eat it. Would definitely eat here again!
(5)Dmitriy K.
Mediocre food. Seafood pasta was definitely not fresh and fra diavola sauce was not spicy at all. I didn't feel well after eating it. Tiramisu was good however.
(2)Jen M.
Delicious food and cute outdoor dining. Came here for a photog get together and the venue was perfect. Upstairs there was a bar, plenty of places to sit and to mingle. Really great for parties!
(3)Rick T.
The goat cheese and meatball pizza is very good.
(4)Colleen S.
Pietro's is a great, reasonably priced restaurant. It's convenient to Penns Landing and Headhouse Square. They serve dishes in individual or family style. I've had a variety of dishes here. My favorite is definitely the Chicken Caesar Salad. The salad is fresh, their chicken is DELICIOUS and the chunks of Parmesan cheese just seal the deal. I've had a few varieities of pizza and pasta dishes that were all delicious. I would recommend this place to anyone coming into the area.
(4)Mezz M.
Great atmosphere and great setting. Food is delicious and freshly prepared , as how it should be. They offer meals in a single and family platter setting. Conveniently priced and great staff. Definitely would recommend for a family outing, or just a couples night out !
(5)Vichet O.
I was here recently and realized I hadn't reviewed it yet. Pietro's, for me, fits squarely into a gastronomical niche that I often forgo: "Italian" comfort food. And, I always wonder why I don't get it more often. Probably because I'm a racist. But, back to the topic at hand. I've been here a few times. I've had their pizza, which is actually quite good - the coal oven method lends it a smokiness that really enhances any meats you may have gotten on it. I'm a fan of their carbonara, which is more "adult mac and cheese with bacon" than egg, parmesan/pecorino/romano and pancetta. Ah well. They also have these huge portobello caps stuffed with gorgonzola and garlic, with mozzarella on top - quite tasty, but can be overpowering without bread or something on the side. It will suffice to say that I like their populist spin on Italian. Then again, the "I'm cooking for fatty Americans" mindset usually leads to the BEST cuisine, in my opinion. I think I should do some sort of food challenge here sometime. A note on the ambiance - it feels like a chain, but not in a bad way. As far as I'm aware, Pietro's is, in fact, a local chain. Beyond that, the gratuitous size of the dining room almost suggests a place you can only find in a suburb. Very high ceilings and a footprint that takes up the width of two Philly row homes lends more breathing room to this place than most others I can think of in the immediate area. In a weird twist, it's almost always empty whenever I've been, but, as I mentioned before, this is because I usually forgo Italian comfort food until it's 9pm on a Monday, Thursday, or Sunday, and no one else is looking for what I'm looking for. Cheers to you, Pietro's. You were a good drunken discovery many months ago. Pro-tip: Sharing is caring - portions are huge, so bring a friend, and fill yourself up with starches and fats before you get tanked. Also, a lot of the hostesses there are Romanian. Not that I'm unreasonably attracted to Eastern Europeans but... oh wait - I AM unreasonably attracted to Eastern Europeans! Never mind.
(4)Dave F.
The Barese and the Pietro's classic were excellent. We also had the spicy calamari with sausage app was very good too. We finished off with a round of limoncello. Fantastic!
(4)Krystal B.
This place is really good if you are looking for good pizza in the Philadelphia, Head House District. The place is classy, but not pretentious. They have a full bar and the staff is attentive and nice. They offer outdoor seating and I have always been blown away by the quality of yummy italian food here. I am a pizza snob and this place does pizza right!
(4)Beth B.
I loved the pizza here. It was thin and crispy and super-flavorful. They use homemade mozzarella, and you can tell. YUM! I ordered the Pietro's Classic, the Piccante, and one of the nightly Specials. I couldn't decide which I liked better, because they were all fantastic. We also ordered the Caesar Salad which was great but I would honestly have rather saved more room for pizza! Sitting in the bar we were ignored a lot of the time, and it was very dark, but it was late so oh well!
(4)Esther F.
My husband and I dined here recently because we were in the mood for some decent food on South St. We split an appetizer (the fried fresh mozzarella), which was absolutely delicious, and we split a 13" build your own pizza with ricotta cheese and italian sausage. The pizza was delicious too. I have a couple complaints, however. We could have gone on a night where our server wasn't having the best evening, as she seemed to be rather annoyed with us the entire time. Also, she didn't let us know about the specials (I only knew there were any because another server told their table about them). That and, since we had never been there before, we needed extra time to look over the menu. We asked her to come back twice, and by the second time she was getting pissed. I can understand annoyance, but keep it off your face and leave your attitude at the kitchen please. We originally tried to order the Bianca pizza and asked to add chicken to it. We were then told that they couldn't make changes to it because it was pre-made. Really? A place that boasts fresh made pizzas pre-makes their specialty pies? I really don't think adding chicken would have been that hard. We will be back, and hopefully we'll have a better experience the next time. And a different server.
(3)Stephy S.
Tasty Italian, good for big groups. Delish pasta. Nice enironment, you can see the kitchen if you sit further back in the restaurant.
(4)Ricardo S.
Their lunch specials are good. Service is ok.
(3)Ron A.
I'll start by saying that I love this place. Plain and simple, a great Italian restaurant. The food is delicious, simple, consistently good and ready in a reasonable amount of time....and did I mention big portions. The salad florentine is large, sweet and tangy, and a great start to a meal. I've had multiple pasta dishes-all good (B+). The service is attentive and friendly, the decor is well designed, nice enough for a romantic dinner out but casual enough for an afternoon lunch. All in all, a place I try to go to at least once a month, if not more.
(5)Gerald F.
A ok. Great coal pizzas. Chicken Sausage is dynamite. Top 5 in center city District.
(4)Jennifer J.
Came here for the first time for a photographers event hosted by White House Custom Color. They had an assortment of food available for the event including salad, pasta dishes, pizza, and dessert. The pizza was tasty with a nice thin crust. The pasta dishes were equally delicious, as well as the cannolis and cheesecake. Atmosphere was very nice upstairs with the patio and deck area. It was lovely out there on a spring night. The bartenders upstairs at the event were very friendly and attentive - something that is rare in Philly, especially on South Street! I'll have to come back and try them for dinner.

Nice very family place. Big portions. The pizza was delicious. And the red sauce/gravy is pretty darn good for a restaurant. Good service and the prices were pretty good. Not bad at all!

Great pizza and salad, excellent portions as we shared a small salad for 2. Great location to walk from Penns Landing.

Came here during the Rock 'n Roll Philly 1/2 Marathon weekend. It was hard getting a reservation anywhere else, but this was definitely not crowded, so we made a reservation for 9 people and had a great time. I did not try the pizza, instead stuck with a salad and some sides (risotto balls were fantastic, a great portion size to share!). Everyone who ordered pasta really enjoyed it- although the portion sizes were giant- so for visitors it didn't necessarily bode well since you couldn't take it back to our hotel. I would suggest splitting the pasta dishes. Service was good, and the place wasn't too crowded!

Wound up here at a last minute decision for dinner, after hanging for the game at The Irish Times. Never been here before, the food was better than I expected. I was actually thinking this as chain type of food. I had a great Veal dish that was one of the better ones I have in the city. The Stuffed Shrip app was delicious. The waiter was great and the ambiance was perfect and it wasn't really loud but more of moderate noise level. We will be returning to Pietro's in the future. I want to try the pizza next time in!

Pleasantly surprised at how great this place was for 2 people in a hurry. My girl and I stopped in for a quick bite before seeing a show up the street at The Legendary Dobbs. The hostess informed us that it would be about 15 minutes before a table was available. Being in a bit of a hurry we decided to eat at the bar. We sat and ordered beers. While looking at the menu, the bar quickly began to fill up and the bartender was running her ass off trying to satisfy everyone. We told her we were ready to order and she stopped what she was doing and patiently took our order in what may have been a very stressful situation for her. In short she handled herself beautifully. We split a small marguerita pizza and the Pappardella Alla Toscana pasta dish. I added a side of 2 meatballs after seeing a picture of them on Yelp... Couldn't resist. Living in South Jersey, I find it hard to find good pizza in the city. Most places serve it too thick and doughy and just not very tasty. Pietro's is the best pizza I've had in the city; thin and crisp, perfectly topped with the right amount of cheese and sauce. The pasta was also great. Thick ribbon pasta in a cream sauce with tasty sun dried tomatoes and mushrooms. The home made meatballs were absolutely delicious, perfectly textured and served with a very tasty blend of spices. I'd like to return to Pietro's and get the full dinner experience in the dining room. I couldn't have been happier with the restaurant's service and food when my girlfriend and I were a bit under the gun and had to hurry along.

Went to this place on a date and was very impressed. The staff was extremely attentive and the food was very good. The place is a little more causal than Id have liked (they have TVs throughout the restaurant) but beyond that, its a great place to check out. Just keep in mind that the portions are very large.
(4)N C.
is it just me or do they have THE BEST red mussels in the entire city. I tested this theory THE BEST
(5)Katie L.
Perhaps ambivalence is worse than hatred, but I didn't really feel one way or the other about Pietro's. The food was fine, as was the service, but there wasn't really anything special about it that would make me want to go back. When you first walk in there's that funny "all too clean" smell that makes you think they're trying to hide something. Didn't try the pizza, but the salads were HUGE, although somewhat tasteless. A good place if you're in a pinch? There's plenty of space and free tables, which maybe isn't a good thing...
(2)Elizabeth B.
I chose to review this Pietro's because I think the ambiance is a little better than the Rittenhouse Pietro's. I like the outdoor seating here because you're not right on the sidewalk. Either way though, the pizza is delicious. I really, really like it. I also like their antipasto plate. It does have that chain-y kind of feel to it, but just let it go and enjoy your meal.

Pretty solid spot, especially for take out. I've dined at Pietro's a dozen times and always had a nice experience. They have a big layout on the floor and smaller dens on the sides with a patio out front. The patio is nice but since it's on South st, there is just to much nonsense going on when you're trying to enjoy your meal. So I bring up the take out. My order (call ahead) is always done fast and the prices aren't bad. They send everything out in nice reusable containers - I'm a big fan. Pizzas are awesome and so is their Arugula con Pollo pasta. It's very garlicy and super delicious. There salads are great as well. If you do bring a big group, you can order your dishses family style and they will come out on troughs. The four of us ordered the Vodka pasta and a salad, each family style and we could barely stuff down both plates between the 4 of us. They also serve warm fresh bread before your meal and if you take it out, you get a couple in your bag. If you're looking to escape the crowd inside but don't want to take out, there is also a small bar inside that is generally casual and not over crowded. If you're on South st and want some variety and don't feel like giving Steven Starr money at Stella, this is your stop. If you're wanting fancier Italian closeby, Bistro Romano is probably a better bet. This is the perfect middle ground.

Our little gang had walked along South Street without agreeing on a place to eat - until we came across Pietro's. Strangely enough, I'd been reading the reviews here on Yelp during the afternoon and we all thought this might be a good option. We didn't need a huge amount of food, just got two pizzas between 4 of us. We were also going elsewhere for desert so were not here for long. The pizza was great, the beer selection was decent and the waiter was fine (although had had a bit of the personality bypass). The dining room is nicely decorated, way bigger than it looks from outside and the high ceiling adds to the sense of space. Would go again for sure!

I am a fan! Went for Sunday brunch, ordered: Uova Al Piatto Spinach E Uovo, translation: Sauteed spinach, eggs, cream, cilantro & parmesan cheese. Can you say: A - Mazing! Only reason it got 4 vs. 5 stars, $13 and a small portion (or I was hungry and just wanted more, it was that good!) Friends ordered Salad & Pizza, it all looked amazing. Plus, service was great. I will be going back!
(4)Mike M.
Stopped in here while on vacation simply because the sign said something about 'family restaurant' and we had a 3 and 5 year old with us. I had low expectations based upon the exterior and the fact that they put the word 'coal' in their name which conjures up all sorts of images--but not ones I associate with good food. While the kids menu left much to be desired, Italian food is pretty kid friendly as is. All the food was very fresh and easily surpassed all our expectations. Prices were very reasonable and the service was fine. Should we return to Philly, we will likely return to Pietro's.
(5)Reinaldo B.
Best calamari in the city ... Food is always fresh and good friendly service
(4)Orlangela A.
Wifey Says..."This place has yummy Italian food...the main dishes are all family sized plates, we got one order of a creamy pasta and it came in a huge dish! We had four people, but the plate could have easily fed six. The pasta was really good, and the pizza looked good here as well. Also, they are awesome homemade tiramisu here too!" Hubby Says..."This place was legit, we asked the concierge for the best Italian food and checked with Yelp and this place came up. No disappoints here, good atmosphere and good selection of wine. Apparently it's hard to find a restaurant that serves liquor and wine because liquor licenses are expensive. Very good place to eat and the pasta was cooked to perfection. Will definitely go back to this place in the future."

Eating this pizza is like reading a great book: about halfway through, you start getting anxious because you know it can't last forever, and with that last bite comes both satisfaction and borderline depression. It's over, you think. Well. That was just wonderful. I can't speak to the service or ambiance of the place, since my friends and I got takeout last night and I've only dined in at the Walnut street location (I actually didn't know there was a South Street one). I got a pizza with sharp provolone, hot pepper flakes and ham. I wasn't so sure about the ham but it turned out to be delicious (but only after we tried to substitute for pepperoni and were told they can't do any substitutions on specialty pizzas, hence not all 5 stars, although I'd have given 4.5 if I could). But the delivery was quick and the pizza was great. Even the rolls they brought with were fresh and warm. It's basically a carbohydrate lover's heaven.

I am consistently underwhelmed by Pietros and thuis do not eat here often,. There are much better places IMHO to get Italian-American food. They do make a decent pizza (but Rustica in Northern Liberties is much better) and serve large plated entrees of decent - not memorable - chicken, fish & veal. The pasta was, indeed, al dente - which was a plus. Service was fine - but it was crowded and very loud. I don't like to sit outside - the whiff of auto exhaust from Walnut Street is not my idea of a fine dining al fresco experience, so we were trapped inside with the hoardes. Don't go on a Friday night, is all I can advise. Maybe don't go - try Le Castagne instead. (19 & Chestnut)
(3)Bambi K.
I love pizza. Whenever I go somewhere new, I try their pizza. Oh Philly! I never knew what amazing Italian food you have! However, I shall focus on the pizza @ Pietro's. What can I say? That thin crust, the burnt little pieces on each slice. If it weren't so cold there, I'd move next to this place! You gotta try it....capeesh? Although it's been years since I've been here, I can't get it out of my mind. Please, if you go there, please message me so that I can live vicariously through your taste buds?

My sister works at St. Peter's School and we visit Pietro's for dinner once a year before her Christmas concert. The food could be better, but there is a reason we go back every year. The place is very cozy, never too crowded and the food is non-inventive, but classic American Italian. The salad portions are either HUGE or small....strange disconnect there. We had the calamari and sausage appetizer last night, which was fantastic and the bruschetta, which tasted kind of like gasoline. I had a salad, so did my sister and my husband had an awesome pizza. My salad was weak, but I give Pietro's 3 stars because our server was very nice and the pizza was awesome! I would recommend going with the pizza.
(3)GF M.
Not for celiacs! I used to love their pizza and salad but when I had to stop eating gluten I took my kids there an they were just downright nasty about me asking questions to avoid getting sick. I won't go back and can't reccomend it to others- there are better pizza places in Philly.
(2)Alex s.
Great option for reasonably priced Italian food. Everything is consistently delicious, my only complaint is the back part of the restaurant is extremely dark. The chicken parmigiana is one of the best in the city, crispy with plenty of cheese. Another favorite is one of their arugula salad with sauteed chicken. It's got a wonderful sweet honey and olive oil balsamic.
(5)Mo P.
5 stars for the pizza. There salad is good as well. The pizza is perfect and right on the money. Slightly charred and the right amount of chew with the dough, sauce is tangy and tomatoey, fresh mozzarella with basil is a perfect finish. For an added bonus the sausage is quite nice... ground into tasty bits and no large greasy pieces. Veg pizza is not bad either but a bit much on the vegetables. Great for groups and easy to find parking in the area. Rita's is right next door to finish the meal. Very kid friendly with some outdoor seating that is covered to watch the people go by on South St.
(5)Joseph P.
Love this place! Great food, great service and a comfortable atmosphere! I highly recommend the diablo pasta dish. (Linguini pasta that comes with mussels, clams, calamari and pieces of salmon).
(4)Michael K.
Pizza was outstanding atmosphere was nice. Caesar Salad was a refreshing side dish with the pizza.
(4)Ian Y.
Jackie and I had a very late dinner here ... so we did not want to fill up on too much so we just got the muscles in white wine sauce. The muscles where nice sized, very meaty and delicious. Then we ordered one of the pizza's that was a special which was a chicken, artichoke, bacon, pesto. I was a not sure about it but once I tasted it I was hooked ... new personal pizza favorite for toppings.
(5)Nancy S.
5 stars because the food got me going back for more. I've never been to the one in Rittenhouse but I'm glad I do not have to travel as far since I live closer to the one on South St. I never would've even considered this place had it not been for my cousin and his experience at the Rittenhouse one. Are you considering this place? GO!!! Go Now!!! Your taste buds will thank you! And come back and thank me too! Sidenote: ladies and gents, if you are on a date try hard not to look at the hot waiters and waitresses... First off, I do not like italian food. Am I biased and do you have a reason to stop reading? Maybe. But when I do "go" italian, you can find me devouring dishes at LaScalas like I was on a carbs-only diet. But after tasting a few dishes from here one fateful saturday- a fan of LaScalas I am no more (besides, LaScala changed their menus and I keep having to order off of it). Theres nothing bad to say about this place. Both times I had excellent service and a pleasurable dining experience. The staff are almost all italians- which is a plus because whats a chinese restaurant without chinese chefs? There's this handsome manager who regards the service and attentiveness of the staff as if he was Gordon Ramsey on opening night. He made sure we had clean plates, our glasses was filled and that we never had to wait on anything. I was beyond impressed. And the food! OMG! The food! The calamari special with chorizo is like none other! I couldn't replicate this stuff if I was living in Sicily with 4 chefs and an olive tree but both times I've ordered it- it came out as fresh as the day it was caught! When you order a salad, plan on sharing it! It's huge! Dressed perfectly and taste incredible. I want to go back and order a different one each time! The red sauce is insanely good- the flavors are so complex its mind blowing. What i mostly enjoyed was the variations on the sauce and that I was able to find bits and pieces of fresh ingredients still preserved in it. I didn't even have room for dessert but once I heard the tiramisu was homemade I just had to turn my American glutton button on and satisfy myself. I was glad I did! It came out with fresh strawberries which compliments the flavors of this fluffy little cake. Loved the cream and the dance the chocolate and coffee does to your tastebuds. I would've paid $10 for this sucker! Amazing service and food. Hope the Rittenhouse crowd never make it this far down South, I enjoyed the prompt seating at the South St location. O- food is pricey but sooo worth it.
(5)Ryan W.
If you love garlic, this place is for you. Fortunately, I love garlic. Every dish I've tried here has reeked of it, even dishes that traditionally aren't loaded with garlic; in my case, Eggplant Parm. I really enjoy Eggplant Parmigana and Pietro's garlic-laden rendition was really enjoyable. It was perfectly sliced, well-cooked, and topped with melted fresh mozzarella-- how can you go wrong? I had a great meal and the service was pretty good too. Be wary about your breath smelling like garlic, though, if you're bringing a date!
(4)Marisa K.
Whenever I am craving good pizza, this is where I go. I, too, am a skeptic of restaurants on South St (even though I live in Queen Village ) so I tend to steer clear of that street with only a few exceptions and Pietro's is definitely one of them. Their pizza is always cooked perfectly, the staff is laid back and friendly and they have several nice seating options: outside, inside at high tables in the bar or in the dining room at booths/tables. The portions here are huge - a small salad can be shared by 2-3 people and the pizza is my favoriate in the city. By using fresh mozzarella and basil on almost every pizza, this takes a standard margherita up a notch and they have tons of toppings to choose from standard to unique, like hot pesto. I've also ordered delivery pizza and pasta here, which was prompt and even inlcuded fresh, warm bread but my favorite thing about this place is the price, it's very affordable considering the portions and quality of food.
(4)Megan M.
I was pleasantly surprised with my experience at Pietro's. Honestly, I did not have very high expectations for a pizza place on South St. For those of you who avoid the South St. atmosphere, fear not. Pietro's is about one block east of the scum, and it makes a world of difference, at least on a weeknight. We sat outside on the patio (the South St. location's outdoor area is much nicer than the Walnut St. location) and were actually able to forget we were even on South St. We had the antipasti special - peppers, mozz, and parm cheese. Very good and perfect portion for two. Next, we designed our own pizza with ricotta cheese and spinach. Delish - enough so that we almost ate the whole thing! The crust was perfectly thin and crispy, with a good balance of cheese and toppings. The service was hit or miss, but I would definitely go back.
(4)Mel H.
I liked this place. The dinning room is a lovely blast from rome. I loved the dark lighting and the romance of it all. As for the food it was yummy. I got the cheese raviolis. The tomato sauce was a nice flavor of tomato and basal. I really enjoyed it. It wasn't as salty as most sauces. I would totally recommend this place as a great date spot. The waiter was quick and friendly.
(3)D C.
Food was very enjoyable, price was a little pricey for the portion size but i would definitley go back.
(4)Melissa R.
You know you'll get a consistently decent pizza every time you come here. And their other menu options such as salads and entrees are pretty good too. It is great for large parties or a table for two. My only qualm was at a recent visit, we ordered the 4 cheese pizza, but they would not allow us to put any toppings on it because it was a "special." And we weren't allowed to "make our own" with the four cheeses either, with no valid reason. Hmph. Overall, a reasonably priced pizza joint that is a good standby.
(3)Cara S.
I was at Pietro's on a Friday night, and it was all in all a pleasant experience. It wasn't very crowded at all, but perhaps that's because it was a little later than a traditional dinner (around 7:15 or so). We sat outside, and the atmosphere was very relaxed and friendly. We ordered the eggplant rolantine for an appetizer, and it was delicious! Lots of ricotta cheese and sweet tomato sauce and melty mozzarella. Our pizza was great as well, again made with great mozzarella. It's a bit pricier than your run-of-the-mill pizza joint so I wouldn't exactly recommend it for a rowdy night out with friends, but I would recommend it for a family dinner or a romantic outing.
(4)Melissa M.
Parking was easy at 7 on a weeknight, and we got a table in the bar area right next to the patio and open doors, which was a lovely spot to sit. Diners who looked like they were there to eat (rather than drink) were seated at most of the nearby tables and the bar itself was empty, so we were a little surprised when the TVs were cranked up. But we were sitting in the bar, so our bad... Maybe we should've gotten pizza. Warm rolls while we waited for our meals were pleasant, but we noticed that many of the folks around us had no oil on their tables for dipping, and waitstaff was solicitous but too busy to respond quickly. My 'small' Insalata Misto ($8) came on a platter with enough lettuce for ~6 portions, 4 grape tomatoes, 4 nicoise olives and some shredded carrot. The greens were fresh - frisee and red and green leaf lettuces- but drenched in not-great vinaigrette. There was a 'large' salad offered as well ($20) that the menu described as feeding 4-5 - I can only imagine what that would have looked like. Fresh papardelle with sun dried tomatoes and shitake mushrooms was greasy and heavy but not very tasty, and there was just too much of everything. Pluses: the hostess and waitstaff were very friendly and clearly rushing to keep up. The patio seating would've been more awesome without the TV. The place is loud enough that kids don't have to whisper. But the food wasn't good, so two stars.
(2)Sean B.
Crazy friendly staff :) So nice !! Salads are huge and fresh and pizza is decent.
(4)Zina R.
I can't speak to the whole menu as I order the same thing every time I go: the meditteranean salad with chicken. The salad at pietros is two things: gigantic and amazing. It's soaked in a delicious house dressing and comes with the juiciest, most delicious chicken i've ever had. Plus, chunks of feta, crisp bell peppers, whole kalamata olives, thick cucumber slices, ripe grape tomatoes and more. It is hands down the best salad I've ever had (sorry mom). And it's cheap -- big enough for 2-3 people and priced at about 11 bucks when you add chicken. Perfection.
(5)Noah F.
Only had pizza delivered, can't comment otherwise. Had the gardinera. It was very generously piled with vegetables. The cheese is AWESOME. The crust is thin and crispy. I didn't realize the pizza would be white - so heads up, though I was fine with that.
(4)Caitlin C.
You wouldn't expect this place to be outstanding as it looks like just another Italian eatery. The outdoor seating initially lured me in, but the food keeps me as one of their advocates. They always serve the best warm bread (why is warming bread so difficult for other restaurants to understand?) and have some great entrees. Lemon chicken is pounded thin and covered in a thick lemon sauce. Their Pappardella alla Toscana is a cream sauce, with sun-dried tomatoes, onions, shittake mushrooms, white wine, marsala wine and peccorino cheese. Not what you'd expect but absolutely perfect and you can get lunch for two for easily under $30.
(4)Shawn M.
If you are looking for a casual laid back italian eatery this is the place to go in downtown Philadelphia. Their Caesar salad is wonderful with just the right taste. I usually order the chicken parmigiana which comes with a great spaghetti and the top of the chicken has fresh mozzarella cheese backed onto it. The staff is usually very friendly and prompt unless they are extremely busy. This is a great place for a good italian meal at a decent price.
(4)S K.
I've been to countless Italian restaurants in center city and this one takes the cake as it is definitely not just a norm spaghetti and meatball place. The pizza's always great, the individual pasta dishes serve enough for 2+, the salad's fresh and drizzled with delicious dressing and the tiramisu is to die for. It's a shame that their service is only average. Sometimes they're great, and sometimes not so great. But don't let that turn you off, I've been in and out of this place for years and have also been to the location on Walnut Street, the service was NEVER bad. My reccomendation: Try the Insalata Mista as a starter, Papardelle alla toscana or Mussels as an entree and go for the tirimisu or the coconut sorbet.
(4)Steven L.
Good appetizers, service, and atmosphere. That I have to give them. But the pasta sauces were sweet and tasted really processed. The pizza was ok, but just ok. It was my first time in Philadelphia, I hope there are better places there than this!
(2)Bill C.
Great pizza, but bare minimum service. Would it kill ya to come to my table? Still, great pizza.
(3)Bea S.
AMAZING. everything was amazing. I came here with my sister and a friend before a phillies game and everything was to die for. The service was outstanding and the food was just as up to par. We started out with fried calamari, which was by far the best traditional italian style fried calamari I've ever eaten. The bread was brought to our table steaming hot and that a lone would have won be over. For an entree I got Eggplant Parm with penne vodka and it was the best vodka sauce i've aten as well. We finished off with a round of espresso which was good as well. I will definately be taking an hour + drive in the near future to come back to this restaraunt.
(5)Meghan M.
The food is good, but the service is terrible! The manager is a fat jerk who knows nothing about customer service. Do yourself a favor: go a block over to Pizzeria Stella. A pizza costs a few dollars more, but it's worth every penny. I will never return to Pietro's again.
(1)Chris T.
Pietro's does not deserve four stars. The food is very good. The atmosphere is nice for South Street. The service is friendly, but lacks any urgency. Our Caesar salad was flavorless aside from the sharp cheese served in slices atop the greens. The house Chianti was awful, but I muscled it down. You get what you pay for. But the real kicker here is the fact that one cannot order a "specialty" pie in any size but medium, or 13". We wanted a large spinach pie, and were told in a very practiced and almost exasperated way that we could only get what was on the menu no substitutions no additions no subtractions. This means that even if we wanted to pay over $25 for a 16" pie, we could not have the large spinach pie, because the pine nuts are not available as a topping in the "create your own pie" section. So Pietro's loses points not just for being less than customer-friendly, but also for being bad at trying to rip people off! Pietro's: if you are going to force me into the a la carte menu, make sure ALL of the offerings are available at the marked-up price. Also, while the restaurant had a lot of children in it, it was not "child-friendly" by any means: no crayons, nothing to keep the kids occupied, knives, salt, pepper, hot pepper already on the table, enormous glass tumblers brimming with water served to everyone immediately, etc. If you are going to seat tons of kids, have something for them to do, and have a policy against parents letting the kids run in the aisles. First and last visit; there is as-good and better pizza to be had in many nearby locations.
(3)Nakia B.
I ordered the Wheat Fettuccine Gardinera, and I was soooo disappointed. I believe the business on Walnut Street inbetween 17th & 18th is far better! It seemed to have a bit of a sour taste and it was a waste of my $13. Perhaps I will give it one more try with the Linguine Cielo e Mare... I don't see how anyone could mess that up. However when I last dined at the Walnut Street location our server was incredibly rude! He acted as if whatever we requested was a nuisance, and when we asked for a side of creamy tomato sauce he would tell us, "Oh this is going to cost you extra!" or was just sucking his teeth and rolling his eyes. Needless to say he didn't get a tip, we gave his tip to the bus boy who had been ripping and running from the time we got there until the time we were about to leave.
(2)Annie C.
Solid food, but the prices are a bit steep for generic Italian food. The pizza was good - traditional coal/wood oven type pizza with fresh ingredients. Pasta dishes were generic. Eggplant parm, Chicken marsala with "wild" mushrooms (as wild as the portobellos you get at super walmart). Fried risotto balls were fun to eat, mainly because it's a fried ball of rice and there aren't many globe shaped foods you can eat in one bite - meatballs, melon balls, mozzarella balls, doughnut holes...hmm, I digress. No real interesting flavors here, but everything is tasty, albeit a bit pricey.
(3)Adolfo W.
Beer, pizza, the usual but well done.
(4)Vanaro C.
Food n service is good :-) dont just go for the pizza cause the menu is full of great stuff :D
(3)Ryan S.
HOW DOES THIS PLACE ONLY HAVE FIVE REVIEWS? Every city has a cheap but good restaurant that you know you can always get a good meal at a reasonable price at. as I think about this statement, i realize the actual restaurant is subjective. but Petrol's is definitely a top contender for this position. Large portions at a reasonable price (two people can have a salad, dinner, and drinks for ~60) and better than most smaller more 'authentic' Italian restaurants. If your in town on business and need a bite to eat before the hotel+laptop? this is the place. Have a vendor in town and need a fast inexpensive but professional lunch? this is the place. Get off work and realize that lunch sucked (or you didn't get one) and all you want to do is have a beer, some salad, and some great puttanesca? ...you get where I'm going. finally, I don't believe I've ever had a mad waiter here. also, I think this is one of the few places where i look forward to having a specific waiter/waitress. if you're in a large group or there with your family from out of town, sit in the back. If you're there with a friend for a relaxing evening meal, sit up front. ...the place on south street is good to; the food looses nothing. it gets four instead of five only because its not AMAZING; its pretty darn close.
(4)Jim T.
Honestly, this wasn't my intended destination BUT... I am so glad for the chance to try Pietro's. I was blown away is an understatement. The crust was perfect and I consider myself a harsh critic. The taste of the classic specialty pizza with the warm pesto and the sausage. WOW! Please, do yourself a favor - pick a cool evening, sit on the outside patio, and enjoy. You can not be disappointed - I promise! Service was a bit 'interesting' but I was very comfortable and enjoyed a leisurely dinner.
(4)Mike D.
After picking up my famished girlfriend from a Bikram session she immediately requested a brick oven pizza. Having been in the neighborhood earlier and not feeling up to detective work, we decided to head down to Pietro's knowing exactly what to expect considering we frequent the NJ location for lunch often. I decided to get the vegetable appetizer and a side of grilled chicken and my girlfriend ordered a medium pizza with some veggie toppings. My vegetable plate was perfect for lunch, all grilled and soaked in olive oil and also coming with goat, Parmesan, and feta cheese. When ordering a side of grilled chicken or getting it on top of a salad, both Pietro's give you a large portion to fill your protein needs. For chain brick oven pizza, we have both decided that Pietro's has overtaken Bertucci's as the place to order a custom pie. Top all this off with the fact that it was a beautiful day and there is an open air seating area right next to the bar and I was definitely satisfied with my experience.
(4)Jackie D.
Went here for dinner tonight with a friend. The salad and pizza was SO GOOD!!!!! The salad had the perfect amount of dressing (I think it was balsamic) and we created our own pie which had spinach, mozzarella, and pepperoni. The pepperoni was very fresh and didn't taste or look like the crappy frozen kind other pizza places serve. The only reason I gave them 4/5 stars was because it is a little pricey. They have a good drink selection and the service was great. If I'm in the area I'll come back if I'm craving some pizza.
(4)P B.
I can't say enough good things about this place. It is our "go-to" place, as everything we have ever ordered has been really tasty. And, it is a really good value, with generous portion sizes. The Caesar and arugula salads are always really good (with no suspect lettuce pieces). The pizza and pasta do not disappoint. We get take out from here every couple of weeks, when we are looking for a delicious, healthy options with great value.
(5)Angel F.
It was good ! Not excellent nor great ! GOOD! good ingredients, good portions, good prices, good environment...
(4)jackie p.
Never been disappointed. My dad and I eat her together at least twice a month. The satay chicken ceasar salad is always great and my husband's favorite, he never strays. I have been all over this menu and never found a dish I didn't enjoy.

It was between three and four stars for Pietro's for me-The deal with Pietro's is ordering the right thing. The second time I ate here I ordered a pasta dish with arugula and tomatoes in a garlic broth with chicken, it sounded lovely but was not particularly enjoyable. I went back for lunch and ordered the lunch special, the margarita pizza and the chicken caesar salad. The salad was honestly one of the BEST caesar salad's I have EVER had! The dressing tasted freshly made, the chicken was juicy and delicious, and there were large pieces of parmesan reggiano on top. The pizza was delicious as well. The only reason I am giving it three stars is because a truly great restaurant, every dish would be great, but I am a fan of pietro's and recommend the pizza. It is a great spot to sit outside and have a good lunch.

We bought pizza mainly for the baby, but we ate most of it. He was so happy kids even have a good food dance. I have to say. this was the most remembereable things i got from PA, besides a parking ticket hahaha

Think Bertucci's times 5. While they have a large menu to choose from, I typically do not stray from their pizza, which is excellent. I also recommend trying some of their different salads which are made with great cheeses and dressings. I have to say, I am always impressed with Pietro's even though for some reason I always am expecting less. If you are looking for some really decent Italian food with a casual setting, you should check out Pietro's.

I have to say, I never even think of rating this restaurant because it's not a typical foodie joint. But I need to give it propos: whenever we're hungry, want to be just off Rittenhouse, want a nice, clean restaurant with reasonable prices, want good food--we head to Pietro's. always great service, always satisfied. Get everything the Square has to offer without the heavy price tag.

This is the 2nd time I've been to this place. I don't visit Philly often, but I do because it's a great food city. The Italian food here is great... especially coming from the West Coast where the idea of Italian food is a bunch of chopped up tomatoes on pasta. This is the real deal, great American-style italian food in a neat restaurant that is basically a former courtyard between two buildings, which has been filled in with a roof. Our server was friendly and attentive. I thought the prices were reasonable for Italian in a city (and not an olive garden). Authentic and good.

Pietro's is a good place for the person who has graduated from eating at chains and non-experimentation platters, but isn't quite ready to completely step it up and become Andrew Zimmern. This place falls right in the middle of the spectrum and never disappoints me. I am a big fan of the mussels and the menu offers everything that you would expect from a good Italian place. The atmosphere is decent and every time I have been here, the service was pretty good, never had a bad experience. When you are in Society Hill with a group of people and confusion, or perhaps an argument over where to eat arises, Pietro's is the perfect place. There is something here for everyone and Italian food is the cure-all for everyone's hunger needs.

This place is great. We had good food, great beer and wine and even though it was a Sunday night, there was good atmosphere. They have a good selection of beer and wine and the menu is broad and has several dishes that will put you in a quandry about what to order. I liked the lighting too... not too dark, not too bright. Jimmy, the manager, was nice and very accommodating. He took a few minutes to chat with my group and exchange pleasantries.

awesome pizza and calamari to boot parking is a hassle but its in Philly . They have an aweson Fra Diavolo Tutti de Mare....try it ...plus the bread and service is a reason for you to be back.a little bit on the pricey side but once in a while spare the phone number Pizza's and treat yourself a little. If you like a little less stress try the Marlton Branch....Route 70

I ordered a pizza for delivery from the Pietros on south street and when eating it, bit into a piece of glass which chipped by tooth. When I called the manager, Barry, to ask for a refund, he said that he would not give me a refund and that he did not believe me that there was any glass in my pizza. I used to love Pietro's for their pizza, salads and good beer on tap but they have lost a customer and I'll tell everyone who mentions Pietro's about the service I received.

i went for lunch with my gf. it was empty on a sat. but philly in the summer, everywhere is empty. the service was good. i had some kind of chicken and pasta. it was fine. not amazing. but hit the spot. my friend had some big salad. the prices were reasonable. it is a good spot. nothing special. i may or may not go back. i have nothing bad to say. it just didnt stand out in any way.

this place just doesn't feel right. while you can't go wrong with a pizza or the family size salad to share with the table (the chicken is really yummy), the pasta was downright gross. too pricey for what it is.

Five stars for the salad and the pizza. I came here with my cousin and his girlfriend. He kept telling me how good the salads were. We three shared a salad for two and a pizza. AND ....the salad was DIVINE. Almost perfect for my taste. The lettuce and other salad fixings were already dressed (as it should be i think) with perfect combination and amount of olive oil and vinegar (and what else, I don't know but it was great). The pizza was also very good. I hope the Pietros in Cherry Hill is as good because that's my next stop!

everyone loves this place for the pizza. i mean, the pizza is good but the pasta in this joint is TO DIE FOR. homemade bolognese sauce, carbonara and vodka pasta varieties. they even allow variations of the pasta dishes in case you don't like or want additional ingredients. everytime i eat here, i'm in heaven.

love love looooove this place! this is one of our standard weekly go-to spots. we typically stick with the same order: siciliana salad and a margarita pizza... to die for. it's simple, but it's just so good. the pasta and other entree options are also really good. we love sitting in the bar area - bartenders/waitresses are always super friendly and attentive. great find for south street!

hope i don't get my ass kicked for rating mostly based on service, but it was bitchy! except for the busboys who were genuinely concerned about their job. ok, and the food was actually just average. big portions though, and i will say that the mussels were quite tasty. the salads (2 different kinds), pasta carbonara, eggplant parm, and even pizza were nothing memorable- so say the trustworthy foodies in my party. it was a nice atmosphere though, and we did have a good time, but i'm banking on the reason for that being the company we were in.

Excellent coal oven pizza. Get a plain pie and enjoy. You don't need to add a lot of toppings to this pie.
