Italian Cuisine
The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.
Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.
If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
Pizza
Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.
Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.
Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

Really good place to get lunch at Comcast Center. It's a little pricey, but it's some of the best pizza in the city. Good stromboli, too.

I write this over that cold leftover slice in your fridge that honestly does taste just as awesome cold. I don't really believe people when they say stuff like that but with La Scala's, the magic is real. On occasion my office orders La Scala's for lunch and it's that one pizza place with quirky pizzas that everyone surprisingly loves! My favorite it the mediterranean with eggplant and ricotta- it's an awesome leftovers pizza, too! We also like to get the chicken and broccoli, but there are so many great options! Order by the slice at storefront, or choose an amazing salad. It's a pricey place, but most of the Marketplace is, and I feel like this has the best quality of each of its features for the price. Avoid lunch hour, though, or order ahead!

I'm completely surprised to leave a 1-star review, especially after my first experience here at LaScala's at the Comcast Center's (it was great). However, today I ordered "The Arugula" salad (same thing I ordered before and loved!) and added chicken to the already impressive mix of Gorgonzola, caramelized onions, marinated eggplant, roasted peppers and white balsamic dressing. The chicken tasted as though the "cooks" went to the Marriott around the corner and scraped it off of some low-rent wedding reception; the caramelized onions were mushy, wet and flavorless, and the marinated eggplant tasted absolutely stale! On top of it all (quite literally) was the gummy white balsamic dressing. This is not an eleven-dollar salad, and, although my first experience here a month ago warranted coming back, this has put me off forever.

This is by far my favorite place for lunch. The pizza is fast no matter how many people are waiting, and the service is always friendly. Oh, and did I mention that EVERYTHING IS DELICIOUS?!!! Seriously. I've had almost everything on the menu, and it's all fantastic. You might think it's slightly pricey for lunch, but wait until you see the portions and taste the food (plus it's the same price range as everything else in the Market). My favorites are the chicken parm sandwich, gorgonzola pizza, veggie pizza (on whole wheat!!), barbeque chicken pizza, sausage sicilian pizza, and the pasta alla vodka. You can seriously get anything to satisfy anyone's tastebuds, and even make them go mmmmmmmm. And if you want a lighter lunch, they have ridiculously good salads too. All in all, I highly recommend for anyone - especially those with an appetite!

So obviously this review is for the Comcast Market location of Lascala's. I have not been to the original / main location yet. The pizza at Lascala's is really great! There is a lot of variety and some great veggie-only pies. Some (maybe all?) of their pizzas have whole wheat crust. Downside is that they are expensive! I know, most of the food in Comcast Market is pricey...but $3.50 for a slice of mushroom? Seems a bit much no? Still....Great lunchtime pizza for the desk jockeys of center city!

Good prices, decent size portion, ok tasting food, but be prepared to wait! Ordered the special chicken parm with spaghetti and it took FOREVER to come out! I felt like they needed to boil the pasta or something, like it was still raw. Pasta didn't come out al dente like it should, but the flavoring was good. Will I be back?? Sure! Esp when it's freezing and or raining, it'll be a trip through the undergrounds for me. :-)

Ton of food. Solid quality. Average wait time for lunch. No complaints.

Stopped in for lunch a little while ago. As usual, it was a busy day at the Comcast Center, and fortunately, LaScala's wasn't nearly as crowded as some of the other places in that food court. That's good to know especially when you are limited on time. If you're going here in the first place, you probably are. They are particularly fast if you are just getting pizza. It's already made and they have this toaster conveyor belt thingy - I know it has a name and I don't know what it's called - that they heat it up on. So if you are ordering pizza they will literally have you out in around 5 minutes - depending on how long the line is. If you are getting something else, you will wait a little while. Under normal circumstances, it wouldn't feel like you wait that long, but when slices of pizza are flying out of the oven, and people are coming and going, it seems like a bit of a wait. The food is worth the wait. One of the best meatball parm heros ever. Great fresh ingredients, just the right proportions, very satisfying. Will definitely return.

A descent pizza place in Comcast Center, I've got a couple slices of pizza here, a few times. Big slices, descent pizza. This is a place where they bake pizzas, and have them on display for when you want a slice or two. So, I don't know if you can order a whole pizza, fresh, or not. I'm usually not a fan of "slice" pizza places, since you don't really know the freshness of the pizza you're eating, or much anything else about it. Plus it ends up being quite a bit more expensive than if you would buy a whole pizza. Since I can't carry a whole pizza from here back home due to logistical issues - ya know, a huge pizza & box on the train, anyone?? - I don't know how a fresh pizza would taste vs a ready-made one. They also have strombolis, some pasta dishes, and other pizza-place food. The slices I've eaten were all big, hearty, and were pretty good, but a good comparison can't be made since I usually get my pizzas fresh, hot, out of the oven, from wherever I do order pizza from. So, in summation, a pretty good pizza spot for lunch if you work/happen to be in the immediate area. Prices are what you'd expect for Comcast center.

Chances are, if I'm getting lunch at the Comcast Center, I'm going straight for LaScala's! They used to run a 2 slice with soda special that was like $7 or $8... but even though they no longer have the special, can still get the same thing for just a tad bit more. I normally get my favorite, the buffalo chicken pizza, but have started branching off and trying some different slices as well. Newest favorite is the spinach and pepper that has olives, feta, etc on it. Slices are huge! Definitely great portion size! Only thing that irks me is that their to-go "containers" are just the slices on plates and inside a paper bag. I normally get my slices to go so having to carry it back a block is sometimes a pain. But that doesn't stop me from getting this yummy pizza!!
(4)Jonny R.
Nice pizza, decent prices. Not mind-blowing, but under the Comcast Tower? It's good enough. Less than $7 for two decent sized slices. Lots of toppings and cheese.
(3)Karen F.
I rarely ever get to the Comcast Center anymore - so today a friend and I met at 11:40 AM - just in time to beat the lunch rush and the long lines. La Scala made her vegetable sandwich on focaccia (huge and fresh) to order, as did they my chicken florentine - no cheese. HUGE portions. - Worth the 12-15 minute wait for the cooked-to-order hot meals. $10 a pop after tax - but big enough for lunch and dinner!
(4)Brynn D.
the pre-made pizzas never look quite appetizing enough to try. a made-to-order calzone took forEVER and was not cheap, but it was indeed tasty. service is gruff, but i don't really care so long as my calzone is good.

I really enjoy the Comcast market location of LaScala's. Even in the madhouse that is comcast market, the servers are really friendly and patient. They have some great pizzas (I love the meatball) and salads (the insalata mista side salad without cheese is lovely--the balsamic is rich and tangy and there are great olives). The catch is that its pretty expensive for a pizza place, so more of an occasional thing than a frequent place to check in.
(4)Caren J.
Great pizza! Amazing salads! Quick and friendly service at any of their locations! I highly recommend their chopped salad!
(5)Sandy L.
I eat here relatively frequently for lunch and I am always happy with my pizza. The slices are nice and crispy without being too greasy and the toppings are good quality. Even their whole wheat pizza is good. If you're in the mood for a really late lunch, or early dinner, slices are 2 for 1 between 4-6 p.m. And while they are busy at lunch, I've found them to be quite efficient at getting the orders out quickly.
(4)Ron S.
Despite being a mob scene at lunch the service was very efficient. I ate a slice of pepper and sausage and it was excellent: the crust was perfectly crisp, the cheese and sauce were flavorful and I could tell the sausage and peppers were fresh. While 3.75 for a slice was high, the pizza is delicious and it ain't cheap being in the Comcast Center.

I stopped by around 4PM - after the lunch hour rush so take this review for what it is. They had a wide selection of pizza's ... however they were clearly sitting there since lunch if not longer. Not fresh - but it is what it is. I chose the 'freshest' of the bunch - a gorgonzola slice. Actually pretty delicious - sweet, tangy, and topped with caramelized onions. Typically 'gourmet' slice prices - $3 to $4 a pop. They have a bunch of pre-made pastas ready to be put into the brick-oven - seems to be a decent spot for lunch. I'll have to stop by for a review during optimal business hours.

Nice! Haven't had E. Coast Italian before and I liked it. The pizza was really good, very addictive. The sausage on it was to die for. The meatballs on it weren't that great but they were edible... The meatballs tasted like only sugar and cumin. My friend had the pasta which I posted. We though it was amusing that it looks like maggots. I really liked it though. It was different than any other pasta I've tasted (probably better and more "legit", ha ha... LA has terrible food). The taste of the wheat was more pronounced and the pasta was a bit chewier and bready, though pleasantly so. I wish it had a bit more sauce but I liked it.

Our office has ordered pizza, salads, and pasta for lunch from LaScala's on numerous occasions. Separately, I've been known to pop in for a slice or two for lunch when I need something quick and easy. Slices run $3-4 each, so not too bad for a Center City lunch. There's a ton of variety, but my favorites are the mushroom and the tomato pie. The pastas are good too, but expect to drop at least $10 if you go that route.
(4)Tina C.
Awesome place to get lunch in the Comcast Center!! It is a bit pricy but their penne alla vodka with crab is amazing and so are thir pizzas! They make everything fast though and its great portions to go for lunch. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because it is a little pricy and the woman at the counter is not very pleasent.
(4)Stevie C.
This place has by far some of the best red sauces I've ever had. Each visit I get the tagliatelle with the bolognese and each time I am impressed. The pizza is also good if you just want something light. The location is very convenient if you are doing the touristy things like independence hall. I would give it another star if the service had ever been memorable. Each visit it seems harder and harder to get a refill for the drinks...but the food still stands out to me.

I have found a new lunch time favorite... Get the grilled chicken sandwich!! It comes with provolone and roasted peppers on a fresh foccacia bread, and it's only $7 and comes with pasta salad and it's HUGGGGGE! A friend and myself always get this and share it and it's plenty.

We should have listened to the latest reviews and stayed away. We were there around 9pm, and it was sparsely populated. The server was slow and indifferent. I ordered the seafood fra diavolo which was awfull. The broth had no depth or body. It honestly tasted like spicy V8 and had the exact same consistency. The seafood was overcooked. I had very little of it, and they waiter didn't ask or care. My daughter had seafood pasta. It was a little better -- reaching "barely ok." It had no salt or pepper (something you'd think would be basic. It took way too long to flag down anyone to get salt and pepper. I hate to say it, but I'd stay away. There are so many other wonderful restaurants in the area.

Diner at LaScala's on Saturday, March 2, 2013 before going to Walnut Street Theater. Dinner was wonderful from appetizers to dessert. We both had specials. The fresh pasta was delicious. To make our dining experience even better was our waiter. He was attentive, informative and very pleasant. Thanks Brandon for a nice dinner out!

this restaurant is so good! the lighting is just right, not too dark, not too bright. service was awesome, food is delicious!! I would def recommend it!

i've been to La Scala's many times to celebrate birthdays but tonight I went with my girlfriends for center city sips and had such an amazing time I had to yelp about it! we sat at the bar, had the beer special and some really delicious brushetta. the food is great and it's a beautiful restaurant but the reason i am writing this review is because the bartenders tonight were seriously the most personable i've come across in the city. cara immediately greeted us and told us what was going on with the sips specials. she and the other bartender on duty were so tentative and friendly, i really can't wait to go back!
