watched the cook handle raw chicken, wiped his hands with the dirty cloth around his apron, and then handled my sandwich

One word: roaches. The place was crawling with them. Saw one of them scurry out of the register as my order was being rung up. I refused the food and politely walked out. Avoid this place at all costs.

I'm so proud to be the first reviewer, but shocked because this place was fantastic. Believe it or not I find it hard to find a good cheesesteak in Philadelphia. I've lived here all my life and I've had more than my fair share of soggy or hard bread, small portions or mediocre flavor, etc. I happened upon this hidden gem (it's sort of pushed back from the other places on the street and easy to miss) I got this referral from a friend that works nearby. We ate in, but they also deliver. The staff was very nice and asked how our meal was separately from delivering to the table. The food was DELICIOUS! The bread was so very fresh even at almost 7 p.m. I had a chicken cheesesteak with friend onions and my friend had a cheesesteak with fried onions and mushrooms. He was equally excited about this place. We also had fries and onion rings. The portions were great and everything was equally good. Prices are reasonable. I think our bill was about $22. They had a great complimentary hot pepper condiment station that really added something. It was quick, it was fantastic and I can't wait to go there again. Actually we tried yesterday, but didn't realize they were closed Sunday nights.

I've been craving a good chicken parm sandwich since the catastrophe that occurred when Moe's closed. I'm happy to have found it! Damn good sandwich at a fair price. Friendly employees as well. The only weakness were the pretty average fries. I hope their pork sandwich is as good as the chickie chickie parm parm.

No, the food is NOT 5 stars when compared to elite places to eat, if that was the case, it would be a 2 to 3. However, this place gets FIVE STARS for being about as good as you can get for this type of establishment. I'm always cynical when it comes to small local eats. Most of them are not good in the least, so I was skeptical coming in. Place looks ok inside. I made my order for take out and came home and now they have a customer for life. My order was EXACTLY what I asked for to the word. Their cheese steak is better than 95% of the garbage out there. Johnny's and Steve's are my two favs now and I'm leaning to this place. I went back multiple times since. Every single request to order they honor and with a smile. Owner is VERY FRIENDLY. I wish them all the best.

I came here using yelp as a reference, it was completely worth it. The food was good and the staff was excellent and extremely helpful. This place is definitely a hidden gem up in the Northeast. Give them a try, their cheesesteaks and hoagies are worth it!

This is not your typical sandwich shop! I visited Johnny Rock's yesterday and was loving all the menu options. I love that I could get anything from a cheesesteak to a Reuben. And everything in between. When you go in to order check out their specials board. You will see sandwiches you did not think existed. Like a scrapple cheesesteak. Yes I said that. It is a cheesesteak topped with scrapple. Now while I am not a fan of scrapple my boyfriend is. And he devoured it. I chose a chicken cutlet sandwich. It was so tasty. It was fresh and hot and wonderful. I could see that they breaded the chicken to order. I highly suggest you give Johnny Rock's a try. They do catering and large scale events as well. I assure you that you won't be disappointed. :)

The pork sandwich was do amazing my man took a picture and sent it to me giving a play by play after each bite. Two days later we went back with the whole family and it was a fantastic experience for all of us. Even the kids loved it. Was super juicy and moist and the bread was fresh. Can't wait to go back. Also the crinkle cut fries were top notch.

First time going there, place was a little old and the floors were little sticky but the customer service was great. Prices are reasonable and they have potato and tuna salad for the customers to try...both was delicious. I got the cheesesteak, wings and fries. All pretty good. Will come again.

So far being a creature of habit I have always ordered the Cheesesteak on seeded roll with whiz it has never let me down. The French fries were done crispy and yummy the way I like them. My boyfriend has tried several different things and never disliked his food at all. I love the fast delivery and selection is pretty good.

Always drove by not sure if I wanted to stop and grab dinner. I finally did and I have to say i was impressed. The pork Italiano was out of this world. I ordered off GrubHub, and with quite a few special requests and they had no problem catering to my picky needs! Most certain that i will be going back!

I stopped in when they first opened several months ago and really was impressed. However, I didn't want to write a review right away in case it was a fluke and things got worse after they were open for a while. Well, turns out that wasn't the case. This past visit, my experience was just as good as last time, and the food was still great. I got a cheesesteak with grilled onions and provolone and an order of fried onion rings. Their portions are generous and the food is as tasty as can be. I have lived in NE Philly off and on for 50 years and I've eaten at Pat's, Gino's, Jim's, Steve's Prince Of, Wit or Witout, Tony Lukes etc., etc. - Johnny Rocks Grill is my new favorite. I only withheld that fifth star to make sure too many 5-star review don't go to their heads and make them too sloppy in the future :-) Besides, I don't want to cause a line around the block next time I want to get a sandwich there. BTW, the dip they serve with the onion rings is delicious, but the onion rings are still very tasty without dipping if you prefer. The cheesesteak was loaded with meat and cheese - no need to ask for extra anything, and the roll was nice and fresh! --------------- On a side note... I suspect that the person who gave them that one star review has a personal issue with the owners and has nothing to do with the food. I notice he or she doesn't use their real name nor have they reviewed any other places.

Only have a moment to comment, but surprisingly great sandwiches, wife and kids tried a few different things, great bread, all of which are extremely hard to find in me Philly. Prices are reasonable and the place is clean.

After reading several reviews about this place, my lady and I decided this was where dinner would be tonight. The atmosphere is nothing special, it's a small restaurant. Upon entering the owner John and I have small talk about what brought me in today, he boasts about having one of the best cheesesteaks in the area!!! I love to hear the confidence of an owner..... I had the cheesesteak and Cajun rubbed wings, my lady had the roast pork Italiano..... After eating I had to agree with john, seriously the best cheesesteak in this area I've eaten, the wings were tasty and cooked just the way I like them , crisp outside and maintaining the juiciness I love... My lady claims tony Luke's has the best roast pork sandwiches ever, if tony Luke's is her 10 ,she gave this roasts pork Italiano an 8 , saying the meat could have more flavor but the spinach had tons of flavor all in all she enjoyed it.. The staff were very friendly and welcoming, if you could care less about being dazzled with scenic atmosphere and simply want a place to grab some delicious food at a fair price......... This is your spot!! ........ And they deliver!! I think this is the beginning to a long relationship of ordering out ! I'm definitely going back for seconds!

Ordered takeout from Johnny Rock's Grill for the first time last night. We ordered mild wings, two cheesesteaks and cheese fries all for about $20. The wings were good; they weren't rubbery or soggy and there was the perfect amount of sauce. They had a special on Facebook that day for buy one get one half off cheesesteaks. Tip: Make sure you check Facebook to see if they have a special that day and don't forget to mention the FB special when ordering. The guy who answered the phone told me that they have the best cheesesteak in the Northeast. I can't say that it is the best cheesesteak in the Northeast BUT it was very good (especially for a local takeout/delivery joint). The fries were also good and they get extra points for using real cheese wiz. We will definitely be ordering from here again.

Johnny Rock's is one of the very few top notch restaurants in the Northeast. High quality delicious food, always accurate orders and impeccable customer service. Unique menu items, try the Chicken Italiano and Cheesesteak! The ONLY cheesesteak I will order from a delivery place. Amazing staff, clean (we've been inside) and always on time. Do yourself a favor and order from Johnny Rock's! Money is too precious to waste on just your ordinary corner pizza joint.

Chicken Italiano sandwich was good, onion rings were good also, had it delivered , 30 min was great glad I jumped on Yelp and read a review that suggested to check out face book for specials , and there you go buy one get the 2nd one 1/2 off , love good food with a discount

I couldn't be happier with this place. The food is great! I ordered the old bay fries with cheese on the side and they were just like chickies and Pete's only better! Crinkle cut fries with the perfect amount of seasoning and gooey American cheese, I ate the whole thing myself and had to save the chicken cutlet sandwich for the next day! (Which was still delicious even as leftovers) the chicken cutlet specialty sandwich has sun dried tomatoes, artichokes and provolone. All on a fresh roll. Surprisingly I have never seen this place with more than one or two customers at a time inside. The staff was very polite and it's clean and well-maintained. They even have laminated menus which is a weird personal preference of mine. Five stars easily!

Those pickles. Who writes a review for pickles? I do. While I know Johnny doesn't pickle those cucumbers himself, I have to say, whenever I'm in there, I just want to take the container and run. But I won't, because I want to be allowed back in there. haha. I always have to get a little pickles for my hoagie and I would just love to know if I can get a side order of pickles. I don't care how much they'd charge me! They're so good -- garlicky, salty, with a zesty tang! C'mon Johnny, how much?

Today I ordered a cheesesteak with wiz/American, roll was fresh, both cheeses were good, and the steak held up. I also had the wings, they were you average wings, good sauce, and lastly had cheese wiz fries were good. I would order from here again.

Best food I've had in a long time. I will definitely be back. Cheesesteak and cheesesteak fries were delicious. The service was great. It seemed like it was that the owner waited on us and brought us our food quickly. He was very helpful and friendly. Can't wait to go back and try some more things on the menu.
