Green Eggs Cafe is probably the best place to go for breakfast in Philly. They're food if delicious, and their portions are so big they are not only filling, but they are enough for two meals. The red velvet pancakes are my favorite, they are mind blowing. They also have different specials from time to time such as the recent Butterscotch krimpet stuffed french toast, so good. Very creative ! If you are going on the weekend, be sure to get there early, as there is a long line to get in !!

Only bad thing about this place is the wait. On a Saturday or Sunday morning, you'll wait for at least 40+ minutes for breakfast/brunch. But on a Friday morning, it's only about a 20-25 minute wait if you get there early enough. And once you do get in, the place is pretty tiny and crowded and you can't make reservations unless you're a party of 7+. But regardless, the food is SO worth it all! I've gotten the Creme Brulee French Toast three times so far and it's never failed. The French Toast is fluffy, isn't dry, and is basically just perfect. My boyfriend and I also get the Kitchen Sink every time we go. We try to venture out and get something new, but nothing sounds like it can beat the Kitchen Sink. It is perfection. I tried the Caramel de Lite French Toast once - it was a special for the week. Tastes just like the Samoa Girl Scout cookie! It was a little too chocolate-y for me, but still really good. I couldn't finish it, packed it up, refrigerated it overnight, and had it cold the next morning which was actually arguably better than having it warm. Next time, I really want to try the Red Velvet pancakes and the Tiramisu French Toast. Overall, I'd totally recommend this place!

The best breakfast I've had. Omelets, pancakes, waffles, Oh My. Very crowded but well worth the wait. Food is delicious and presentation is awesome too

What a neat find. This place was highly recommended. When I saw that there were three locations for some reason i lowered my expectations. Was this a chain? Well, we were very pleased. It was a cold Sunday and there we were among 20+ others waiting outside in the cold for a table. Certainly a good sign of what was to come. The menu had a number of good choices. I could only narrow it down and let our server decide. The food was great, the service was spot on for a breakfast / lunch spot, and a great value. Go hungry and plan to be stuffed when you leave, unless of course you have the fortitude to just order the oatmeal. If you do, you have super human will power! BYOB The table of young women next to us brought a couple bottles of champagne and they provided them some nice glasses and a pitcher of orange juice .

This was my daughter's choice for my 1st meal out in Philly and I'm glad she took me here. No waiting and a table by the window made for a great start as we were starving that morning. We shared the pork belly benedict with rosemary potatoes and Snickers brioche French toast. We wanted to start with something savory and end it with something sweet. There were 2 large chunks of pork belly next to the eggs which was perfect for sharing. A very rich dish that we both enjoyed. We love pork belly so we're not put off alt all by it's richness along with the creamy hollandaise sauce. Who knew it would go so well together? The giant portion of French toast made us smile as it was beautifully presented and just so delicious. Loved the topping of honeyed mascarpone cheese, chocolate ganache and caramel sauce. We didn't finish this dish as it was gigantic. Took a couple of bites and it was just perfect to end our meal. Service was friendly and attentive. I also thought that it was a great deal for the amount of food that we had. It does get loud in there, but we had no issues where we sat. I will definitely be back on my next visit.

Took the family here and everyone loved it! Portions are big. Food was delicious. I would recommend sharing a dish. They are getting 4 stars because no one came back to the table to refill our coffee. When asked for a refill, they acknowledged but never came back.

This place is excellent. The brunch menu and the daily specials are creative and unusual and worth coming back to sample. Maybe there is some other place in the city that has a menu with french toast stuffed with chocolate chip cookie dough or tiramisu ingredients, or offers red velvet pancakes, but I haven't found it. My chocolate chip cookie dough french toast was incredibly decadent. I could only finish a fraction of it before being overwhelmed by it. Best bet is to coordinate with a friend to make sure there is a savory dish on the table with eggs, bacon, and other breakfast standards to counteract the french toast. Even though there were big crowds at 11:30am on a Sunday, we only had to wait for 20 minutes for a table.

Food: 4/5 my creme brulee french toast was delicious and the steak n eggs we got were also very soft and tender. portions are very large and you should expect to get a takeout box to go. coffee: strong le colombe coffee, awesome big raw sugar cubes and plenty of refills Service: seated and waited for 15 minutes for waitress to take our order after we asked who our waitress was. Then took 45 minutes for food to come out. We saw parties that came in after us, get their food and pay before we ever got our food. We asked our waitress what happened and she went to the kitchen to check. There was no real explanation except "Kitchen is backed up". 10 minutes later our food came out fresh and hot finally. After we finished our meal, because it was closing time, our waitress donned purple cleaning gloves and started sanitizing the forks in the entire restaurant and disappeared. We had to hunt down a random person to give us our check! The service here is HORRIBLE! Overall, food is very good but the subpar service really detracts from the allure of this place. I would prefer to wait at Sabrina's and get decent service than come here again to be ignored.

Love this place! Huge portions and an extensive menu. I've come here for brunch and I highly recommend the "Kitchen sink", Chicken and waffles Benedict, and the red velvet pancakes. All great choices!

I've been here twice before and both times I got the red velvet pancakes (minus the cheese filling between the pancakes). I'm not a big red velvet fan but I do really like the pancakes here. There light and yummy...you need to share with 2 or 3 because they are HUGE! The country sausage is really good also. Only downside is that I always have to stop at my bank's ATM because this place is cash only. It's 2014 at least except Visa and MasterCard. They do have an ATM inside restaurant but of course with those convenient ATM's comes surcharges on ATM end and your banks end. Too much of a hassle and not paying for surcharge crap. They are in the works for their liquor license so that they can stay open late. Best time to go on the weekends is bright and early when the sun is starting to peak. That might not be so easy for those partying the night before to get up when the roosters do. Otherwise you will be waiting for hours to get a seat and you'll be starving like crazy. Oh and another plus is they serve La Colombe coffee.

This place was great. Good was excellent and large portions. I went with the Kitchen Sink. As you can see, it did not disappoint. Presentation was great and it arrived in less than 8 minutes....at Sunday brunch. My waiter, Chris, was friendly and helpful. The place only get a 4 though due to it being Cash Only. Really, it is 2013. I am sorry but Cash Only made me stop and get cash on the way. It will also likely make this my only stop at Green Eggs.

I know this Green Eggs is the new one on the block, but I just didn't love the service or the food during my most recent meal here. The location of this place is prime, if you're walking around Center City and I'm sure that drives the foot traffic. We stopped in on a Friday just around lunch time. I was feeling more like lunch than breakfast so I went with the veggie burger. When it arrived, it definitely hit one of my burger pet peeves in that the pattie was way smaller than the bun. I ended up having to rip off a good portion of it just to make it a worthwhile sandwich. My partner in crime got the vegan french toast and I noticed a distinct saltiness to it which i wasn't sure was intentional or not. Either way, I wasn't thrilled. I found the service to be a touch lackluster as compared to other establishments in the neighborhood. We found ourselves a few times really hunting for our waitress just for a refill on water. My coffee was pretty decent which bumps up the star rating a little bit in my mind. I'm familiar with the other locations and those haven't disappointed. Perhaps this location just needs a little time to get seasoned.

You would think that after the whole Rats Debacle they would be all for tip-top customer service. Instead, we were forced to wait to be seated while tables remained empty. What really got me, though, were there in-your-face policies: a message on the table that if something is cooked per the menu, and you ordered it, you WILL BE paying for it, whether you like it or not; and complete unwillingness to substitute anything. I don't eat eggs, but I do eat steak. To me, fruit or home fries seems a reasonable substitution for the 3 eggs that come with the order, but they treat the meal as though it came pre-packaged and nothing can be done to get you what you want. You can leave the eggs off entirely, but it will cost you the same. Lastly, medium rare came still mooing. Meh, I'd go back if friends wanted to, but I wouldn't recommend it.

Ate here two days in a row for breakfast. Food is seasoned and cooked very well. FIrst time I just had eggs over easy with bacon, potatoes and toast. Simple yet delicious. Second day I had the Chicken and waffle benedict. Definitely a great choice. The fried chicken pieces were crispy and flavorful. The poached eggs were cooked perfectly.

After reading yelp reviews and seeing their menu, my husband and I decided to give green eggs cafe a try for our first breakfast in Philly. We are thrilled that we chose this place. The place was very busy but we were seated right away and the staff was very helpful and friendly. My husband had the kitchen sink skillet which was huge! He was very happy with this dish. I tried a special menu item that day called the Ultimate Philly eggs Benedict which was equally delicious! We would come back to this place in a heartbeat!

Green eggs will definitely have a long wait, but my group agreed that it was worth the wait. I split the short rib eggs benedict and the red velvet pancakes. The short rib benedict was excellent -- I'd definitely recommend it. People always say Green Eggs is known for its sweet breakfast items, but everyone at my table who got savory items was happy with their decision. I also tasted the pork belly benedict (a special), and the kitchen sink, which was huge. The red velvet pancakes were a tad too sweet for me, and a really large serving -- it was like ordering a full cake. Someone at my table got the creme brulee french toast, and he raved about it. Bottom line: I'd highly recommend it, but come ready to wait and come hungry -- the servings are massive.

I had the chicken and waffles benedict. It was pretty good. It also came with a side of rosemary potatoes which were perfectly cooked. We shared a side of the buffalo mac and cheese...extremely rich and flavorful. Too bad I was so full from the chicken and waffles, otherwise I would have eaten more of the mac and cheese. Service was very good. The only con I would give is that you can't make reservations. We waited for about 45 minutes. Usually I wouldn't complain about waiting but this happened to be the day that it snowed 8" in Philly. The snow was started to get heavier and I just felt bad for everyone was waiting outside, especially the hostess who had to stand outside the entire time taking names down. I hope Green Eggs pay her extremely well for standing out there!

I came here for brunch last weekend. The wait was pretty long (20+ minutes) and we were there pretty late (around 2pm) but it was totally worth it! We ended up sitting outside so I can't say much about the atmosphere inside the restaurant. Sitting outside has its perks but the bugs and heat made the experience less enjoyable. Food -- I got the Lox Benedict and my boyfriend had the Steak and Eggs. The presentation is beautiful for both dishes. For the lox benedict, the eggs were perfectly poached and the lox was really fresh. It was delicious but I felt like there was too much cream cheese wrapped with the lox and not enough bread to soak up the eggs. The rosemary potatoes that came with it were really good. My boyfriend said this is the best steak and eggs he's ever had (and he orders steak and eggs everywhere we go for brunch, even IHOP) and the steak was perfectly cooked and seasoned. The only downside is that the only hot sauce they have is sriracha and I'm more of a Cholula girl. Service -- Since we were sitting outside, it took a while for everything to come out. The waitress also took a while to bring our check but she was pleasant. This place also accepts CASH only so be prepared. Atmosphere -- Sitting outside in the gayborhood definitely gives you a lot of different types of people to look at so that was fun! I would definitely come back here to try the other brunch items on the menu but I'll definitely try to come earlier next time!

Went here for brunch this morning for the first time. So glad I tried it! I had an egg white omelet with tomatoes, spinach and goat cheese, and it was delicious! The multi-grain bread from Le Bus was awesome, too. I'm a stickler for tasty coffee, and Green Eggs definitely delivered on the good coffee, as well. Will definitely be back to try some of the other menu items. I have a weakness for red velvet, so I may just have to try the red velvet pancakes. Sounds yummy!!!

I love coming here for brunch. Brunch is one of the most amazing things to do and when I do it, I do it here. I bring dates, friends, and family here. The kitchen sink is a must try. It is reasonably priced for the amount of food you're getting. Portions are quite large so come hungry. I don't think you will be disappointed.

Great place, giant portions of really good food, might have just killed my heart with the tasty "Kitchen Sink" but totally worth it. A bit on the pricey side, but as I said, you're not getting ripped off with the giant portions or great food. Very nice staff as well.

Echoing Jackie P.'s review, what was a pizza box doing at Green Eggs when they don't even serve Pizza? The rats incident might be caused by the construction going on down the street or maybe sabotage from nearby breakfast/lunch places that lost business after the invasion of Green Eggs or they are just plain old dirty. There's no way to know but with food like that, it's hardly a deterrent to not go. Since Green Eggs opened in the Gayborhood, they have took over space from Nest and expended. Business must have been good. One good thing about the rat incident is that now there's hardly a line up front. You can just go in and enjoy. Maybe another incident will even bring the price down but I'm not going to wish that to happen. They always have very elaborately extravagant French Toast specials, I had the Peach Cobbler French Toast the other day with brown sugar toppings that makes me feel guilty after eating. I mean, it's obviously too big and not healthy but it tastes so good! They need to cut down the amount of cream cheese sandwiched between the bread, I can't, I just can't do that anymore.

Impersonal decor. Very very loud. Big portions of greasy food. We thought we took a wrong turn and were in an institutional cafeteria or in Jersey (not sure which would be worse). Why anyone would want to go there when there are infinitely better options nearby (e.g. Toast) is beyond me.

Meh, kinda disappointed actually. Service was good. The dishes looked beautiful but the chicken and waffle Benedict I ordered was not good- the chicken wasn't crispy. They were sad looking little things with almost no flavor and home fries were still hard and undercooked. It wasn't a horrible meal but it def left a lot to be desired. Plus we got charged for a to go box- what?! Also it's cash only.

If you like an abundance of rosemary in your "traditional" biscuits and gravy, then this is the place for you. Omelet was more jalapeños than egg or sausage. No quality check on the meal. Couldn't get a refill of coffee during entire meal. They were happy to take the coffee off the bill as opposed to apologizing.

Food: excellent and well done. Grits are very good. Omelet done with care. Love how good the pancakes look. Can't wait to try them. Location: very quaint and nice. Very loud though Service: waiters are kind, polite but not attentive at all. Seriously they drop the good and run off and you have to taser them for something with your meal (in one case we had to ask for hot sauce and ketchup from the other table). They also refused to give us butter or jam for the toast. Waiters and staff are very nice but they just don't seem interested in helping.

I finally went to Green Eggs for the first time after hearing great things about it. For me, it definitely did not live up to the hype. First, you have to enter through a random, unmarked door. How hard is it to print out a piece of paper that says "Entrance"?! We had to walk up and down the block a few times before deciding to try this door... Doesn't really bode well for your restaurant to annoy your customers before they even sit down. Anyway, once inside we both find that our utensils are dirty. Fortunately the ones we grabbed from the empty table next to us were clean, since our waiter was pretty inattentive. Most of the time he was nowhere to be found... and the place wasn't even busy! When I finally got the drink that I ordered, it was so boiling hot that I could hardly even taste it, and it didn't drop down to a temperature at which I could enjoy it until after I was finished eating. Meanwhile, my mom's coffee was just lukewarm. Also, after our meals arrived, our waiter disappeared again before we could ask for ketchup and butter; thankfully, another waiter overheard us talking about it amongst ourselves and brought them over for us. I left feeling pretty turned off by this place by the creepy entrance and dirty utensils (especially considering the rat incident - sorry, I had to say it), as well as the unfriendly message on the table explaining that items will not be taken off the bill if they are not to your liking (come on, where have you ever seen this before??). I did like the food, though, and I appreciated the number of vegetarian options. I am willing to give this place another try, but not at this location. Here's hoping the service is better in South Philly.

Brunch here was great. The ambience was nice. It was bustling but not overly loud. The portions were very generous--especially with the smoked salmon, which places often skimp on. I'm looking forward to going back for future brunches.
Oooowww those Red Velvet Pancakes are super delicious! I finally broke down on my second time here and got their signature dish and was not disappointed. It was very tasty, especially with the chocolate pieces inside each pancake. I actually couldn't finish the whole thing as it was that rich and filling. The rest of the group was really happy with their meal and definitely enjoyed. Be sure to come with an appetite, although I bet that you will not be able to finish and will be taking home leftovers. Special kudos to their manager for working with us that day as we brought a group of 20 (do give them a heads up though), and they were able to work our Pac-12 brunch club into their busy schedule.

I had high hopes for this place when I saw the extensive line out front. My girlfriend and I waited 30 minutes on a crowded Sunday morning to dine at this restaurant. I'm not keen on waiting, but since I had not been here before, I was willing to give it the benefit of the doubt. Once seated, I was initially impressed with their array of choices for brunch-- many of them quite tasty-sounding. I ordered an omelette with onions, spinach, peppers, and cheddar cheese and a coffee. While waiting for the meal to arrive, I noticed a small card/disclaimer that was posted on the table stating something to the effect of "If we serve a dish the way it is described on the menu, you cannot return it for a refund. If it is not cooked correctly, then we will have another one cooked for you." This caught my attention, because, I thought, "why should this be made so explicit?" Is it that big of an issue at this restaurant / does it happen that often that the management needs a disclaimer posted on every table? Seems like a pretty standard policy to me. And then the food came out. My omelette appeared as though a vat of liquid cheddar had been poured over it, rendering it unrecognizable as an omelette. On the first bite, it was quite clear that the omelette was 95% egg and only 5% filler. Since when is an omelette synonymous with a giant scrambled egg? Needless to say, the lack of filling was a huge disappointment. Plus, doesn't the cheese go inside of the omelette, not poured over the top? The "home fries" were a pitiful excuse for such a distinction. They were neither homely nor were they particularly well fried. They sliced large oval pieces of potato, skimped on the frying, and the result was a rubbery, luke-warm potato pile. I say pile because they gave me about 16oz of potato. Honestly, sometimes less is more.. and this is one of those times. I should have known better than order these, too, because I retrospectively recall that many of the other people who were finishing their meals when I first ordered, had left most of the home fries on their plate too. Ergo, I am not alone in feeling this way. When it came time to pay the check, I realized that the cup of coffee I ordered cost 3$ (a little steep for your standard 10oz mug of of folgers) The meal came out around 15-17, which a priori would have seemed fair enough, but given the giant disappointment that was this meal, seemed a touch overpriced. To cap it off, my date had to pay a 25 cent fee for a to-go box (this was a first for either of us). Needless to say, I won't be coming back. I would suggest that you don't either. And if you haven't ever been here, don't bother coming.
The long wait for Sunday brunch was worth it! Salted caramel latte was amazing. Out of our party of 9 people everyone was pleased with food choices, nice presentation. I had the cafe club sandwich with side salad. The salad was very fresh, the sandwich was tasty but the ham was very fatty and I had to remove it in order to eat the sandwich. Large filing portions. Service was decent. Menu was very good with daily specials, was difficult to decide. If we go again I will call ahead to avoid the almost hour long wait for tables. Impressive coffee selection. The cafe is quite loud and we had a hard time talking to each other, by the end of our meal my 21/2 year old was complaining about the noise level, so if you want peace and quiet with your coffee I wouldn't go there!

WOW I was pleasantly surprised about this place! I would really go to this place for brunch on weekends. The menu is phenomenal wit tons of options for both lunch and breakfast. The breakfast menu has the standard breakfast, but also a sweet section and savory section. So whatever your tastes buds are craving I'm sure this place has an option to ensure that your taste buds get tickled to your liking. I have ordered the tiramisu french toast which is out of this world! I have also tried the breakfast burrito and the eggs benedict. Oh yeah did I mention, this place is BYOB so bring your bottles of champagne and ask for a carafe of orange juice and start the weekend right :)

There's a reason people wait in a line outside to get in here -- the food is AMAZING! I had the Chicken & Waffles Benedict, which may be the best breakfast I've ever had in my life. And my service was great. Dan was our server, and was really great at his job. My girlfriend got the Creme Brulee French Toast and was blown away. We will be back!

I visited the South Philly location of Green Eggs two years ago and was pleasantly surprised to find that a Center City location had been opened since. We arrived on a Sunday at 10am and had a 20 minute wait on the sidewalk before we were seated. Although some of the sweet breakfast items sounded tempting, we leaned towards the savory options. The presentation was not really deconstructed, but the Smoked Lox Benedict had a roll of salmon and (way too much) herb cream cheese separate from the brioche and eggs. The three Egg Omelet came with the cheese on the top, which actually didn't look too appealing (I prefer for my eggs to conceal my cheese-smothered breakfast). Green Eggs has generous portions and some fancy dishes, but the excess is almost a turnoff at times - at least you are getting a good-sized portion of good food without too much of a wait.

This is my favorite brunch place in the city, it never disappoints. Their apple pie french toast is to die for! The only reason i didn't give it 5 stars is because, the price is always increasing and could probably be a little cheaper.

I came in around 12:00PM on a saturday for a table of 2 and was seated promptly. They have a large selection of breakfast items and lunch items. We had the Chicken and waffles eggs Benedict and the 'kitchen sink'. Both were great but the portion sizes were huge. I would recommend sharing if possible because we took half of each dish home. I did not try the red velvet pancakes but from what I hear they are great too! I would definitely recommend this place!.

(5)Loni N.

Amazing food, service and atmosphere. They give you so much food for your money, it's a favorite to all of my peers. Cheers!

(5)Laura L.
Omg!!! This was the best breakfast I ever! The service was fast and friendly. In addition, they have a lot of vegan options!
(5)M K.

(4)Nico D.
(2)Sam B.
(3)Erin F.
Cute place. Food is really good but probably a tab bit over priced. My iced coffee was perfect. That makes me a happy camper, haha.
(4)Alper E.
Perfect for brunch in Philadelphia
(5)Stephen B.
(1)Loren C.

(5)Bill B.
Wow. This was our first time here and it was absolutely awesome. We had to wait 25 minutes to get our seats but it was well worth it. I had the Creme Brûlée French toast whig had to be the best I ever had. The homemade chorizo was equally excellent as were there sweet potato fries. I tasted some of my friends Red Velvet pancakes and they were delicious. The service was outstanding as well. The prices are also very reasonable for what you get. The portions are large. I would highly recommend this place and I know I will be back.
(5)Shaun O.

Green Eggs, despite its fun name, is not something to be taken in context from the children's book. Upon reading the website, it is a nod to the "green earth" campaign hitting the commercialized foodie market, but not actually anything organic, farm-raised, or locally selected. Of course, the menu offers some nostalgic favorites such as classic Eggs Benedict, but also offers spins on the odd-ball traditionals like, fried chicken and waffles, or creme brûlée french toast. What lead us to try Green Eggs were the simple raves and reviews from people that like this place, but in actuality have never been to IHOP or Perkins. The food was heavy, overly done, in large plates and tremendous portion sizes, barely leaving room on our minuscule table. We gravitated toward the choice of ordering the Red Velvet pancakes, interested in trying them based on this craze sweeping foodies as well. Myself and partner ordered one each, but our waitress did not bother to tell us that we could have gotten away with splitting the Entenmann's sized cake with not one, not two, but three layers, also filled with chocolate morsels baked in! The dish, which we both barely even ate more than a quarter of, was obnoxiously heavy, cake-like in constancy, and made us sick to look at after three bites. Kudos to the waitress for not giving us good advice on that order, simply to bump up her measly tip. Additionally, the breakfast add-ons, such as the biscuits and gravy, which our waitress recommended to be "really great," came out in an oversized plate, smothered in a sausage gravy (sausage not noted in the menu description) and with a stale, corn-muffin like biscuit that was brittle, hard, and densely dry. Bumping a small breakfast order up another $5 was the side of thick, super-salty bacon in three massive strips, greased up in a dish, ready to clog my arteries at first bite. Beware of their "Cash Only" entrapment. They are obviously too cheap to fork over the fees to credit card companies as their fancy, touchscreen POS terminals have the credit card swipes on the side. Every dish that we watched come out since we waited over fifteen minutes for ours, was big, over done, and just looked poorly executed with thick sauces, fat mounds of coverings, and then dainty garnishes of fruits, or mint leaves. If you want heavy, gross, and overpriced breakfasts, that will burn a hole in your wallet, this is a great place for you. But if you want the same effect for more than half the price with better service, just go to IHOP down the block. As a wordily food traveler, there are some experiences you just don't want to forget, but this is a place I quickly crossed off my list of most memorable places I have eaten.

(4)Christine D.
Have the chicken and waffles! Great service. Thanks Blaise! Loved the waffles and pancakes too! Our friends from Switzerland said Green Eggs made their top 2 favorites place they ate in Philly.
(5)Meg H.
Best brunch spot around!! Went in yesterday with my hubby ! There was so many good items on the menu but we decided to try some of their specials! OMG!!! The coconut cream pie french toast was amazing!!! My hubby decided to pick something savory so he went with their special steak sandwich !! The braised fennel was so good!!We will definitely be back soon!!!
