Esposito's crafts delightful porchetta - traditional boneless roasted pig, for those who don't know. Their sliced, Italian style roast pork is a bit saltier than your typical roast pork, but keeps well; the meat is still moist for days, even weeks after! Its flavor is rich and herby, the perfect accompaniment for a sandwich, or just a salad, and is easy to cut. This is quality meat. Esposito's caters events for any occasion, for any number of people, and will sell a pig (or pigs) of an appropriate size to fit your needs. (See their web site for the latest prices.) Besides roast pork, they offer roast beef. Anyone want to help me try them out?

Went with my brother today to pick up sixty pounds of succulent swine and it was all I could do on the drive home to keep from reaching into the back seat to pull off a chunk of nirvana. He got a whole pig which came deboned (they remove a lot of fat too), seasoned, cured, and cooked for $245. Since it will be feeding fifty people (they say it would feed sixty, I guess a pound a person) that works out to five bucks a head, which is pretty darned good. Came with two jars of juices or gravy or something that I didn't try for two reasons; First, the pork was good enough by itself, and second, I was snaking the meat on the side since it was for a party to which I was not invited. I highly recommend that you order a whole pig for your next jump off, then sit back and watch with pride as the head inevitably gets placed on a spear and your guest drunkenly dance around it in some pagan ritual.

I'll have trouble writing this one without using swear words, mostly just because my vocabulary is too poor to really elucidate what a tasty sandwich this was. I will admit that I am a sucker for a sandwich, and I tend to rave a bit. Maybe I was a bit over the top in my review of the Cemita de Pueblo al Pastor. 3 months later, I saw it on the back of their menu, and the one I had then could have used a little more "zing". With that disclaimer, this was a really, really tasty sandwich. I got mine at the Saint Pio gathering at Annunciation BVM, 10th & Dickinson. My, that was a tasty sandwich. It wasn't quite the revelatory experience that I had when I had that first Tony Luke's roast pork, but this one was as good or better than any I have had. It has a much more heavy rosemary bite to it (I think that's the spicing, someone else can correct me if they believe otherwise), and on what was one of the first colder days of the year, it reminded me of the more heavily herbaceous cooking that comes with fall and winter . It's wonderful to know that I can just go there and get some Porchetta to make a sandwich. In fact, I may go back and have another for lunch tomorrow. The Saint Pio Festival lasts until Sunday-- and for those of you who are into this, you can get crispy pork skin as a gratuity. Yeah, I ate so much I can barely roll over on the couch, and I'm okay with that.

My neighbors get a huge pig here every year for their pig roast and it's always delicious. You can probably feed everyone, plus have leftovers, within a 2 block radius for $200. And they give you plenty of gravy.

Mmmm Espositos. I live on this block and love it when i walk past and smell a fresh batch. Their beef is good, but the pork is maybe the best thing I've ever eaten. Both are sold by the pound. And the store isnt really a store. You kind of walk right into the kitchen and ask someone for service. Its a curious setup, but whatever. Usually a good idea to call ahead.

On my 9th birthday, I asked for a giant stuffed animal pig that I appropriately named "Wilbur" after my favorite "Charlotte's Web" character. So it was only fitting that on my 29th birthday I asked for a giant whole roasted pig (which I refrained from naming). I fell in love with the little guy (and by little I mean 40 lbs, which is the smallest size they offer) from the moment I smelled him. He was porkfection through and through. Deliciously tender. Faultlessly seasoned. And wonderfully tasty. He turned this mostly veggie eating girl into a carnivorous monster that night. And in the words of every child's favorite spider, I have to say, "That's some pig!" they make over there at Esposito's.

Every year in South Philly there is a Columbus Day Parade that takes place down Broad Street. The parade itself is mediocre (at best). Why do I even continue to go year after year? Towards the end of the parade route there is a row of tents with different food vendors and a delicious gem among the vendors is Esposito's Porchetta. Don't be afraid by the long line because it moves rather quickly. The specialty is an Italian pork sandwich ($6 per sandwich/$7 with slice of provolone). The prices have risen over the past few years but it is worth every penny. Workers are cutting meat nonstop and displaying the heads of roasted pigs a badge of accomplishment. Also available are hot peppers (this is a must in the sandwich) and bowls of pig skin. The pig skin is free and surrounded by old, Italian men. You may have to throw an elbow to even get to the skin. I personally do not even eat red meat but I will make an exception for this porchetta sandwich.

A heavenly scent was dancing in the air during the festival followed with a mob of people waiting . A scent my senses knew all to well, I knew who this was, this was Esposito's working their magic. Imagine if you will, pounds and pounds of cut up freshly made porchetta sitting in a marinade of herbs and spices. A treat for the taste buds as you begin to wonder when will it be my turn to sink my teeth into this juicy works of art. Their Porchetta along with other fine selections of meats is considered one of ,or maybe the best in all of South Philly. I know what I just said with the others out there trying to be number 1, but who doesn't appreciate one trying to out do the other. Basically Esposito's is in my top 3 (most likely 1st) then followed with the next in line for a great porchetta. Their quality alone stands out from the others, from the explosion of flavors you'll receive once you bite into it, down to the skin. If you never tried it, get it, it's crispy with it seasoned just right. Simply delightful when eating, nothing short of phenominal. With that said I finally got my sandwich, which was another tough decision to make with the options they had going. Their aroma alone my decision was already made up, I went with a porchetta with provolone on a long roll. With every bite it was an explosion of deliciousness, the juices, the spices and herbs with every little detail coming to life. Simply put , my taste buds were overwhelmed, followed with a cold beer made this all to enjoyable. Esposito's has a quality along with their traditions that can be enjoyed by all. They will cater any event with nothing but the best. Accommodate to your every needs with a staff that is willing to go that extra step. A family type of establishment that will gladly make you a part of theirs. This is what I consider to be a five star rating all across the board.

Had a pig delivered to work for a Hawaiian Luau, this was the best pig I have ever tasted, they cooked it and delivered to our location. They deboned it and the meat just peeled off. I would highly recommend them if you are having a barbecue or a catering event. They made everything so easy for us, all we had to do was eat it. People are still talking about it weeks after the event. I can;t wait to have it again!

I cannot say enough good things about this place. Let me start by saying they were prompt delivering our 70lb pig to my husband's surprise party. The guy who delivered it gave us some tips on how to carve the pig which was extremely helpful (they also provided us with gloves). The pig itself, oh my goodness, so good! So many people asked where it was from because it was seriously the most delicious roast pig at least I have ever had. The seasoning was perfect on it. I am so glad I ordered from this place--not only were the prices more reasonable than other local places to me, but it tasted infinitely better. They also provided us with a HUGE jar of gravy. We will definitely be using them in the future/referring them to others, they were great!

Esposito's has been selling their porchetta from a tiny store front for years. I had no idea what to expect, and was not even sure I was in the right place; it did not exactly look like a place that was open and ready to sell me some meat. But, through the red door we went and they were so ready. Esposito's sells huge whole porchetta pigs which would be a pretty impressive addition to any party. We were here to get some serious sandwich material. We picked up a pound of sliced porchetta for $9 and half a pound of sliced provolone, they also sell roast beef for $10 a pound, both come with gravy. The guy working there saw how excited we were at his products and gave us a tour. I probably would have cried if I had forgotten my camera. The inside of the freezer is filled with vats of chopped garlic, and there there are whole pigs- already covered in the garlic and rosemary and ready for their 8 hour spa treatment in the oven. Here is our sandwich recipe (it feeds about 4 people): pound of sliced porchetta and 1/2 pound provolone plus a loaf of Sarcone's bread = one of the best sandwiches you can get in Philly
