I was so hungry and passed by while walking on the 9th street market. I don't really like Mexican food because the restaurants kill the food with cilantro, which I hate but I thought I'ed give it a try. The place looks like any other tacky taco joint and the top of the wall is lined with food pictures and Our Lady of Guadalupe is staring at you from the corner. Our Lady must of ate the food. I had the best fish taco in my life. The guacamole was awesome and fresh and the salsa had the freshest chopped tomato. Washed it down with pineapple soda. All for $10 bucks. Yes Blessed Mother I will be back.

Coming from California where authentic Mexican food is around basically every corner, I was pretty disheartened when I realized the closest Mexican food places around me consisted of Chipotle, Qdoba, or another place that lacked the authenticity I wanted. A fellow Californian who lived in Philly for a while now then took me to El Paisano and told me it's one of the more authentic Mexican places to be found in Philly. AND HE WAS RIGHT. The food is great! And there is just so much to choose from! We ordered two orders of the tacos de cabesa and then an order of fish tacos accompanied by Jarritos :) The lovely lady working there brought over chips and salsa to start us off. I loved the salsa! I found myself eating my tacos with the salsa moreso than the taco sauces. I loved the cabesa and the flavor was on point. The fish tacos were also great! I definitely will be coming back to try some more of the other dishes. This place made me miss home, but it's nice to know that there is a place to satisfy my Mexican food cravings here in Philadelphia.

Great authentic Mexican food!! The portions are huge. The flavors are authentic. I ordered a beef huarache. It was delicious! To drink I had an Agua De Jamaica. Which is a hibiscus drink. It's light and refreshing. Tastes kind on like cranberry. I couldn't finish my huarache so I got a to go box. Will definitely be returning to check out more items on the menu.

Great food and prices are decent. I wish they had more vegetarian options, though. They were also out of the huitlacoche and squash blossoms for the quesadillas. I'd definitely go back though.

I didn't actually buy anything here but I went into the store because it was freezing cold outside. The people working at the time were nice and let me exchange bills for smaller ones and allowed me to stay in there to keep warm. They even gave us directions to the nearby Italian Market. I would definitely swing by their shop for Mexican food because I'm sure their service will be great!

I'm so glad this place opened up. I grew up in Mexico and I love the food here. I keep coming back for the whole chicken +5 sides for $12 deal. The chicken is juicy and flavorful... Perfection. The sides are basically homestyle Mexican food, what we call "comida casera," so they are nothing special but I like them enough. I am amazed at the variety of food that they can prepare in just one kitchen. They even have a Mexican ice cream and smoothie bar inside the store. Eat here!

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
