This place was pretty good. 5 star server, 3 star service (food took a very long time), 3 1/2 star food. They started us off with some popcorn with nice infused oil with chives and a little salt. They also served us fresh corn biscuits that had clearly just come out of the oven, with a little butter and a piece of honeycomb. Wonderful. They had in-house home made sodas, so I ordered a cream soda and Sherman ordered a key lime. Both fantastic. The scallops were sweet and tender, not rubbery or fishy. Nice crust and served with a pretty good slaw flavored with red wine vinegar. Maybe a little overpowering but refreshing in contrast to the scallops. The bison was cooked correctly to medium but being such a lean meat would have better if we had ordered medium-rare. Potatoes were richly flavored with bison au-jus and the greens had great character and dimension to the flavor. Not over-salted. Fantastic dish, would definitely recommend it. The crab cake was somewhat low-grade crab (no big pieces) and the corn was too sweet for the dish. I was unimpressed by the quality of this dish at this price point. Nice big cake, but I'd rather have had a couple smaller, higher quality cakes. I wouldn't order this again. Overall, wonderful service and pretty good food. This place has stiff competition in nearby Washington House, and if I were going to recommend one or the other, I'm sad to say that Maize would not be the winner. The quality of the crab killed it for me. On the other hand, I love that they source mostly local ingredients! It's a toss-up.

Just a terrific meal last night. Everything is fresh, the flavors were big and local sourcing. Our enjoyment of the meal ascended from the popcorn/buttermilk muffin through the bluecrab salad, monkfish, shortribs - and peaked with the polenta cake and olive oil icecream with braised blueberries. What a treasure to have so close! No wonder they are so busy. Also great service and very nice pace - sat at our table for over 2 hours and never felt rushed or ignored. Reserve early and BYOB!

Hands down, the best place we have ever eaten. EVER. Wonderful chef, wonderful atmosphere, and wonderful server (bob). GO here. BYOB!

Just had my rehersal dinner at Maize. What can I say, they killed it! Everything was amazing and every single person there loved everything! From the homemade biscuits(which are unlike any biscuit ive ever had) served with honeycomb all the way through to the complimentary warm chocolate cookies, nothing anyone tasted was anything sort of awesome. Chef Matt was willing to help me create a special menu for my party and everything was executed perfect, no small feat when you have to have 19 meals come out at the same time and most of them are scallops or bison that can be easily over cooked. So if you happen to be in Perkasie, PA or are in driving distance defintly check out this tiny gem, you wont regret it.

This very unassuming (from the outside) resturaunt is one of the best meals I've had since moving from Chicago to PA. The chef balanced the foods from the tasting menu perfectly. Being able to see into the kitchen is always a treat. Do not go here if you want to be "in and out" in an hour. Plan on 2-3hrs to savor food, your company and the service. Don't forget the added bonus of BYOB. I don't want to sound snobby, but we had so many good restaurants located in Chicago proper...and Maize would fit right in there. Amazing food.

So we lived in Perkasie for several years. We moved a while back. We were there seeing our friends a few weeks ago and wanted to go out for dinner. We made reservations (even though I thought it was probably not needed). Glad we did! The place is small (it was full) but would not want it any other way. My wife and I and our friends could not believe the experience. It was a wonderful surprise. Matt the chef is right there in the back of the small restaurant (in full view) and each meal is made to order. It was an exquisite meal (I had the Bison Fillet) and I would suggest that anyone I know make this a MUST to visit and enjoy a spectacular meal. Wish we still lived in the area. Would go on a regular basis.

This quaint restaurant can be a bit loud due to the size, but trust me, it is worth every minute you'll sit and every dollar you'll spend. It is a 2-2.5 hour dining experience, which they tell you when you make a reservation so you never feel rushed. Just sit back, relax and let them keep surprising you with all of the little treats. I can't wait to go back, and I can't remember the last time I felt that way about food! I had the bison and couldn't believe how lean it was because the taste was excellent. Don't think twice, experience this gem of a place!

I cannot say enough about this place! I went there for the first time last night, for Valentines Day. It is a very cozy restaurant, seats 25. There is a beautiful exposed brick wall on one side of the restaurant, and as soon as you walk in you can see the Chef cooking in the kitchen. Our table was right next to the kitchen, but it was not loud at all. Everything about this place is well thought out, you can tell a lot of love and care went into planning every aspect! They have two large blackboards which list the local farms where they get their ingredients from. They serve you amazing popcorn and corn biscuits before your meal....which were so amazing it made me really excited to try everything else. Everything is made to order- and you can tell! I had the grouper which was fantastic, it was on a bed of spinach and quinoa. For my first course my husband and I ordered scallops which were served on this bed of salad which was to die for and we also tried the sweet potato gnocchi. I have never tasted anything like the sweet potato gnocchi before- it was such a unique experience for my mouth:) For dessert we had a chocolate hazlenut cake, with a coffee brulee. Even the dessert was made to order....it came out warm and gooey! Perfect portion size for everything, I practically licked every plate! This was a special Valentines Day menu, so I am not sure if they will have these available at other times. Needless to say I will for sure be back to this place. We made a reservation since it was V-Day, Im not sure if you will need one on other days- and they are closed on Monday and Tuesday, only open for dinner every other day.

Serving up all local cuisine with a new menu every night. Maize is certainly as good as it gets. They manage expectations by letting you know up front that their dining experience takes about two hours, and every course is certainly worth the wait. The Maitre D is kind and courteous not to mention extremely knowledgeable and very attentive. Occupying an intimate nook in Perkasie, Maize could give any upscale city restaurant a run for their money. I am vegetarian and frequently find restaurants falling short of my expectations, but to describe my wild mushroom ravioli as delicious would be a gross understatement.

What a pleasant surprise! We thoroughly enjoyed our meals! The food was fresh and delicious! It was not your typical suburban restaurant quality food and definitely not a "quick" meal so be patient. Take your favorite wine and savor each course. It's well worth the wait. The biscuits were served fresh out the oven...it was delish but a little bit of a tease because we had to wait for the next course. We ordered the Mahi and bison. Both are recommended. Entrees are priced just under $30, a bargain considering the superb food and it's close-by with free parking.

I had the most amazing meal in the area. Great restaurant. Excellent food. Nice presentation. OMG...my food was amazing. I'm already hungry and can't wait to introduce my friends to this place.

Again, a lovely meal at Maize. Blue-Crab salad, followed by Crab cake (I know...two crab dishes...but I know what I like!), followed by dessert (I never order dessert) of crème brulee! Thanks for a great time, including attentive service- looking forward to my next meal and perhaps try the tasting menu!

We moved from perkasie to nazareth and I've gotta say this is by far one of the best places we've eaten in the locally grown foods category. The decor is nice, the food is incredible, and the service is wonderful. The one time our food came out wrong, it was on the house. The chef is part native-american and that's where the theme is for the restaurant. We've taken friends to eat here and so far everyone has been wowed. I would recommend this place to anyone...even if you live far away, it's worth the trip!

I have been wanting to go to Maize for about 2 years since we moved into the vicinity, and finally found an occasion for a visit. My expectations were incredibly high, and they were actually exceeded by the excellent meal. I guess if I hadn't expected a very slow meal, I might have been thrown by the pacing and thought about dropping a star. Frankly, it was almost 2 hours after we sat down that our entrees came out. However, since we expected a slow pace, we were able to really enjoy our meal. We had appetizers, entree, and dessert and were there for nearly 3 hours. The popcorn was a nice touch to start out the meal. The biscuits were truly incredible--the local honey was a fantastic touch as well. For appetizers, I had the onion tart and my wife had the fig and goat cheese salad. Both were excellent. Our entrees were even better. I went with the bison steak after reading many reviews (and hearing raves from the table next door). It was truly one of the best things I've ever eaten. Go with medium rare as the chef recommends too. My wife had the braised short ribs, which were flavorful and delicious as well. For dessert, she went with the pears while I had the hazelnut cookie/semifreddo combo. She liked hers (I wasn't a huge fan when I tried it, though the champagne sorbet was interesting) but I absolutely loved mine and would order it again in a second. The chocolate chip cookies accompanying the check were a delightful touch and a great way to end a spectacular meal. On top of all that, the price seemed incredibly reasonable for the quality. I've had comparable meals at places in big cities and spent much more than we did at Maize (not to mention not needing to schlep into the city and pay for parking). We will definitely come back for special occasions. Truly of a gem of a restaurant that deserves all the accolades it gets.

One of the BYOBs in Bucks county. Braised Mussels rocked. Grouper was over the top! Buffalo your Masterpiece. This place is a culinary experience as they cook each meal for you. It is two hours of just great food and friends. If your in a rush this is not the place. Each meal is cooked to perfection in a pace that offers you to take your time and really enjoy the meal.

This place really is awesome. Small intimate setting with tremendous food. As others have mentioned, the wait is long as food is made to order. However, given the nice atmosphere, phenomenal food and lovely people, no one should complain! I'm going back to Maize tonight, and I'll be sure to write another review shortly so I can describe in depth my experience.

Excellent service. Excellent Meal. All is made to order and they do tell you that as soon as you sit down so just be prepared to wait but it is worth it! All local ingredients and the execution of the plates is flawless. BYOB which is nice. Desserts are delicious . Overall a great experience.

My wife has been raving about this place since she went with a coworker so I decided to surprise her one night and get reservations. I can honestly say this was the best dining experience I have ever had in my life. Attention to detail is apparent here from incredible service (Bob was our waiter, he is great!) to the incredible pairing of dishes. My teres major was cooked perfectly with an amazing crust and my wife's crab cake looked delicious! The warm biscuit and popcorn are added treats along with warm chocolate chip cookies at the end. Everything is fresh and prepared just for you and they do an amazing job. I can't wait to come back and try more dishes and if you have room for desert, get the polenta cake with braised blueberries and olive oil ice cream, it is to die for!

This is the best food in town, maybe the county, hands down. Everything on the menu is delicious. The wait staff is efficient and courteous. You always receive their homemade popcorn, honey and butter with freshly baked bread, and cookies for dessert regardless of your meal choice. The location is small but it doesn't matter. It is classy inside and wonderful. The cooks take pride in their food, and I am happy to be a patron here. Some things to note: do not go here if you are trying to be quick. It takes about 2 - 3 hours to finish your meal here. It is almost impossible to spend less than 100 if you are with more than yourself, but it is worth it. It is bring your own beer, but they do have some delicious homemade non alcoholic drinks. I highly recommend this restaurant!

A MAIZE ING!!! From the first step through the door to the last bite of the homemade chocolate chip cookies. I had the pleasure of enjoying a wonderful dinner at Maize on a Friday night in September 2011. The small dining area allows the Chef to personally prepare all the dishes in the open air kitchen in the rear of the restaurant. We had a group of 14 and while we waited for the stragglers to show up we snacked on their signature popcorn. It was coated with olive oil, garlic & parsley. I enjoyed it so much that I'm going to try and make it at home. I had the Heirloom Tomato Salad, Baby Greens, Tomatillo Dressing. It was basically lettuce on top of tomato's. As simple as it was I did enjoy it. I had the chance to try a friends Seared Scallops which were cooked just right and melted in your mouth. Several Maize regulars raved about the Bison steak so I had to indulge and try it. Everyone was right! This cut of meat was fantastic. I ordered it medium rare. (next time I'll get it rare) I would put this dish up against most of the Filet's I've had in the past few years. My girlfriend had the crab cake and it was packed full of crab and didn't have much filler. The corn salsa that accompanied it was a nice addition. Once our group inhaled dinner I was the only person that wanted desert. They had a few things on the menu but I didn't really dig them. Earlier in the night I was perusing other diners tables and a apple / ice cream desert caught my eye. I asked our server if they had anything not on the menu for desert and indeed they did. It was a roasted apple, ice cream & a small cinnamon tasting cake. I'm glad I had room for desert because this small plate was a good one. As I finished my last bite the home made chocolate chip cookies arrived. They were about the size of a silver dollar and the chocolate chips were made into a smiley face. From start to finish Maize has there SHI* together and most foodies would enjoy this place immensely.

Wow, what a great experience. My colleague and I were passing through the area on a business trip and found Maize on Yelp. It was a bit out of the way for us, but as it turns out, it was well worth the trip. In this sleepy little town out in the corn fields, Maize is a hidden gem. Every bite was meticulously prepared - beautiful produce and meats, nicely spiced, expertly cooked. The roasted pumpkin salad was perhaps the best preparation of pumpkin I have ever tasted. The swordfish was tender, flaky, yet dense, sitting on a silky puree of pumpkin. The bread pudding and flourless chocolate cake were sublime. A perfect autumn meal. I highly recommend this place, keep up the great work, Maize!

The food here is routinely executed perfectly. And I mean perfectly. I'm a wine lover, and this is the only BYO I'll take my best bottles to. The food deserves it. The service is leisurely, and that seems intentional (it may be also due to kitchen capacity). All the better to relax and enjoy the experience.

This is a fantastic local find! Locally sourced ingredients, an inspired chef, and friendly service. While there are a few menu staples, there are often specials and tasting menus designed around the currently in season fruits, vegetables, etc. Be sure to bring a bottle of wine with you and plan to have a relaxed and well paced meal. Everything is cooked to order and absolutely amazing. One word of caution: This isn't really a place for kids. Take advantage of the opportunity for a date night & book a babysitter - its worth it! Edited to Add: My husband really wanted to have his recent birthday dinner at Maize so I contacted the Chef / Owner who kindly offered to whip up a fantastic mac-n-cheese for my youngest daughter. My oldest enjoyed the bison. So if you find yourself craving Maize (and who doesn't?) but don't have a babysitter, give it a go. Just prepare them for a leisurely meal and have them bring books or an iPod to keep themselves entertained between delicious courses.

One of the best meals I have ever eaten: PERIOD!! Very interesting and diverse menu, starting with the first course. There were several things that I was interested in getting but settled for the ox tail, which was divine. For my entree, I got the teres major, medium, and it was done to perfection, very succulent and juicy-- exactly how I like my beef. The key lime soda is very different but a must because I have never tasted something so unique. Sadly, I did not have time to stay for dessert, but the two small cookies I had on the way out were exceptional so I could only imagine how good the dessert must be!! The one bad thing is the food takes quite long because it is made to order. This isn't a problem unless one is short on time, which i was. However, the food was well worth the wait, and I look forward to my future dining experiences at Maize.

Hubby and I went out for a date night at Maize, it was our first time there. From the moment we stepped into Maize we felt like we were guests at a dinner party. Even though it was a bit small inside it was still cozy and comfortable. The host was very hospitable, he gave us complimentary wine as we didn't realize it was BYOB, He treated us to the "friendship" popcorn(which was really cute idea,) and made us feel quite welcome without hovering or being obnoxious. Our meals were EXCELLENT! It was a treat in every sense of the word, made fresh to order, perfect cook with creative and high end flavor combinations. I forget what my hubby had. I had the crab cake on a bed of vanilla corn. It was scrumptious. It was also a treat for the sources(local farms)of the food to be posted where it could be seen, what a great way to show case true local artisan fare! I hope Maize continues the trend of using highest quality of locally grown/raised food. Highly support places like this! My hope is that ALL restaurants will come up to meet these standards.

This adorable, cozy surprise in the middle of Perkasie (of all places) was a truly fabulous way to spend a Friday night with friends. With seating for possibly up to 30 people we recommend reservations. When we arrived they served their famous popcorn (a sign of hospitality) that was addictive and coated in herbs and spices and also warm biscuits. As someone who is gluten-free I was so tempted to taste the biscuits just because of the smell! They were served with local honey and butter. They have cleverly coded their awesome menu for gluten-free people so they have a huge selection of gluten free options and dishes that can be made gluten free (the restaurant is also beside a gluten-free health food store) - added bonus. Our table ordered the salad with roasted beets and triple goats cheese and also the heirloom tomato salad. I am pretty sure I could have just eaten the goats cheese all night- it was creamy and decadent! For our main course the gentleman ordered bison. They claimed it was delicious (it is served medium rare) and my honey might have enjoyed it a little more cooked so you may want to share that with your server if you order it. My friend enjoyed the crab cake which looked packed full of crabmeat. My hanger steak with yukon potatoes and seriously the best jus I have ever tasted, melted in my mouth. It was awesome! As we were too full for dessert we missed the experience of trying something to recommend. There are several things I love about this place: The intimate setting Watching the chefs prepare my food BYOB Gluten free options All produce is sourced from local farmers (listed on chalk boards) Service is attentive (but the meal is very slow) I highly recommend it and will be back for sure!

A quaint, adorable restaurant exemplifying the charm the town of Perkasie, PA has to offer! Food: Made to order with a very small kitchen (impressive!) Great depth of flavors an use of fresh farm ingredients and seasonal items. Delicious food! Prepared very well with a great seasonal menu. Had the sweetbreads and duck. Very nice portion size for price (compared to Philadelphia!) Very impressed with the thoughtfulness of each dish that left the kitchen. At one point a dish left the kitchen by accident and the chef ran out to get it! Very good quality food. Perkasie people are probably very turned off from the price of this place but the food here does NOT come from SYSCO food distributors!!!! You will pay $20-30 for a meal and $8-13 for an app, but this isnt nasty frozen, reheated, refried sh*t from any other restaurant 4 miles away!!! Thankyou MAIZE for bringing quality and seasonal farm to table foods to such a deserving little town. Growing up here, I know it will catch on!!!! Only suggestion, EXPAND!!! Food takes a little longer to come out, but I'll always be patient for quality...

Food was amazing. We ordered the 5 course tasting menu. One of the courses was striped bass. My husband had gone fishing that morning and we asked if they would add this fresh fish into one of our courses. Every course was 5 star. Flavored and cooked to perfection!!

Five stars all the way! Maize has the caliber of food that you could easily find in top restaurants in New York. Start to finish, this place offers a topnotch dining experience. Every meal starts off with their seasoned popcorn and maize biscuits with honey and butter. The popcorn was addicting and a perfect play on the restaurants namesake. The menu here is seasonal and changes often to reflect the best local ingredients. We started off with some apps, some roasted beets and pumpkin gnocchi. The gnocchi was to die for they were so tender and seasoned perfectly, an excellent balance of sweet and savory. I ordered the scallops for dinner which were topnotch. They were cooked perfectly, seared on the outside and tender and moist in the center. The bison , which i also tried, was perfection. Normally i don't eat red meat, but that steak alone was enough to make me change my mind. The cookies at the end of dinner was the perfect compliment to one of the best meals I've ever had. There was NOTHING that i disliked about this meal. The service here was excellent and moved at a slower pace which I feel allows for you to savor and enjoy what your eating. The ingredients are fresh and of the highest quality, the perfect testament to the best of whats locally available. Maize is not to be missed and I will certainly be returning soon!

Never been let down by the food. Presentation is superb as well as execution. Few restaurants hit all my top notes. Love that he uses local ingredients, seasonal, but with his own twist. And it's a BYO to just top it all off! [Had the Bison Tartar this time .. oh my goodness! changed my mind on tartar]

What a great experience! We enjoy eating out, and like to take our time, eating slowly and enjoying our meal and time together. We've been trying to get to Maize for months, but I've been undergoing chemo, and every time we planned to go - well, my body wasn't up to it. Finally, last night, we were able to keep our plans, and were so glad we were able to. We decided to go with the 5 course tasting menu, and couldn't have been happier with our choice. Besides the complimentary popcorn and delicious buttermilk buscuits with real honey, and complimentary hot chocolate chip cookies after the meal, we were treated to the chef's following delicasies: 1) sea scallops in a lobster sauce - the scallops were seared to perfection, sitting on a sauce that was divine, the chopped cabbage paired perfectly 2) red snapper with pistachio sauce - again a perfectly crispy sear on the skin of the fish, the fish perfectly cooked, sitting on a light pistachio sauce, beautiful 3) bison short rib - hearty and satisfying, with an au jus that was perfect....and pureed parsnips which I am going to try to re-create it was so good! 4) beet carpaccio - so refreshing, with macadamias, vinagraitte, sprigs...I'm sure I'm leaving out something, but a cool, refreshing finish to the meal 5) dessert - WOW! 3 small portions, just right, and all so good in their own way. Now, to see if I can remember...a rich chocolate mousse with berries, then a vanilla ice cream sandwiched between wafers, and finally a coffee or maybe espresso little cake with a warm gooey inside. Sorry for the lack of descriptions...it's been a long time since I've had desserts and I kind of tuned out and stared, missing the details of each in anticipation of eating them! Beautiful presentation, attentive service, and a "take your time" attitude made for an enjoyable evening out after a long lull from such nights. Also love the locally sourced ingredients. Small, cozy atmosphere with exposed brick and open kitchen. Great for a great or couples night. We well definately return, and hopefully sooner rather than later. A true gem, and on par - if not bypassing many big city eateries.

Great food - locally sourced. Nice atmosphere, a little noisy. Big city taste in a small town restaurant. Even better that it is BYOB. Make reservations in advance.

Had another fabulous bday dinner at Maize. I just adore the coziness of this space and the warmth emanating from the open kitchen. I had the scallop appetizer with truffles and it was beyond amazing - how he gets such a deep sear is inspiring - I can still taste the truffles... I then had the garlic risotto - another simple yet spectacular dish - my words can't do this food justice - you must go!!

Strength was the overall dining experience and great food. Tried the tasting menu and loved the scallops with truffle, rabbit and cheese dish dish. . The halibut had a great sauce but the fish was very overdone and had the consistency of chicken. However, we found this to be a wonderful alternative to driving into Philly. Even the person returning my call when I tried to make a reservation could not have been nicer! Absolutely would return BUT female server made two communication blunders that lingered. First, we asked whether we could have a tasting menu in which my wife and I were given different dishes so that we could enjoy a larger breadth of food. Unfortunately her response after asking the chef was " I'm sorry we are understaffed tonight and cannot do that." I found it to be a very bad way to say no. Why is a very small restaurant understaffed? Then hire another kitchen person . Never tell a patron that you are understaffed! :( Secondly upon telling her that we were in no hurry as we had 9 PM show at the Sellersville theater, she responded , " that will not be an issue I will need this table by 8 PM." That had my wife and I looking at our watch all night and in fact the "understaffed" kitchen fell behind and we did not actually leave our seat until 8:25. Finally, we heard her telling the next able of 4 who got there before us," we really need to clear this table for a party of 4 standing outside the restaurant." Poor pacing by the kitchen should not be placed on the shoulders of the patrons to rush out. However, that server withstanding, we found everyone to be knowledgeable, the food to be sophisticated and the room very inviting. We really enjoyed the food and in fact commented that EVERY dish on the menu seemed appealing. Great job! We will return.

AMAZING food! I have not had a single item that I did not 100% enjoy. We have done the tasting menus and they are excellent but you do need to be prepared for a long meal as everything Maize makes is made to order (including the desserts) and the tasting menus are either 3 or 5 courses. Remember to bring your favorite wine since it is BYOB (another bonus) The restaurant itself is beautifully decorated and tiny so be prepared to make reservations especially around any type of holiday. My suggestion is if you live even close to Maize make reservations for you next special occasions and you will not regret it!

My husband took me to Maize for a birthday dinner and we had an excellent meal. Next time I go I might opt for a vegetarian meal because the vegetables and mushrooms in both of our main dishes were the best part. It is very pricey - We had 2 apps, 2 seafood entrees, but no dessert and the bill came to $86 (and it is BYOB). However, the portions were very large which was a pleasant surprise. The free biscuits with honeycomb were delicious. We really wanted dessert but just couldn't eat another bite. I love that a local place has an interesting philosophy and wonderful food so I will be returning as often as possible.

My husband and I chose Maize based on hearing how great it was at work. We booked a 7:30 reservation about a week in advance so we could try it for our anniversary. On the day of the reservation, I got a call from Maize asking if we could come at 8pm instead because there would be a large party ahead of us, and he didn't want us to have to stand and wait for our table. (Very considerate.) I reluctantly agreed but was concerned with the meal being advertised as a 2-2.5 hour experience as I'm not used to eating so late. We got there and the large party was actually a wedding reception taking over most of the restaurant. My husband and I were very concerned when we couldn't hear each other across our table of 2, but then Don (our waiter) came over, wished us a Happy Anniversary, opened our wine (it's a BYOB), and told us that the noise should be de-escalating shortly. While we were trying to decide on the menu items, Don came back over and said that Chef Matt would like to cook for us and so if that was okay, he was going to take our menus back. I told Don I was worried because I'm not an adventurous eater, so he pulled up a chair and proceeded to write down foods I like and didn't like. I immediately felt more comfortable with not knowing what would be coming out of the kitchen. One by one, my favorite selections that I stated came out of the kitchen--crab cakes, shrimp, scallops, beef. Each item was expertly prepared and paired with incredible sides. (I've never had grits before Chef Matt made them--so flavorful.) The dessert was a trio of creme brulee (oh, the crust on top!), berries with raspberry sauce, and a chocolate cake--delicious! All in all--6 courses--I was so full by the end of the meal! All in all, my husband and I were intrigued each time a new course was placed in front of us and impressed by each course as we cleaned our plates. By the last few courses, we were the only table left in the restaurant. We enjoyed dessert with a romantic playlist in the background and then Don came over to relay a message from Chef Matt that the meal was on the house. COMPLETELY UNNECESSARY and SO SURPRISING AND GENEROUS! Chef Matt has incredible talent, and I really hope he expands his restaurants all over the Bucks/Mont area. Thank you for an incredible, memorable, perfect Anniversary evening all around! We can't wait to tell everyone about our experience, and we will definitely be back!

I had dinner here with my parents back in June and it was fantastic. I would have preferred that my duck were a little less rare but that was my fault for not asking how it was prepared. We were given an appetizer of popcorn with olive oil, sea salt and herbs. Deceptively simple, yet oh so tasty. Dinner was fabulous so we had to indulge in dessert. I had an amazing sort of deconstructed chocolate mousse terrine with a chocolate layer and a spectacular hazelnut layer, and stepmom had a gorgeous creme brulee. Our server, whose service was impeccable, also let me satisfy my curiosity by bringing me a small scoop of their olive oil ice cream (DO IT). I look forward to coming back here next time I'm on the east coast.

I love going out to eat, and this is the absolute best place I've ever eaten. I've been there several times and have never been disappointed from appetizer to dessert. Chef Matt also happily accommodates my gluten free needs without a problem. Because everything is fresh and made-to-order, you can expect spending a good chunk of time there, but it's all part of the experience.

My wife and I are so glad that we discovered this place! This is a small, but great little BYOB service delicious farm to table food. If you are planning on coming here, reservations are highly recommended as this place is small and probably seats 25-30 folks at most. We arrived a little early for our 7:30 reservation, but were seated right away. It took a little longer than I would have liked to have our waitress first make contact, but after that, she was generally attentive to our needs throughout the meal. We went with the 5-course chef's tasting menu (which the entire table has to go with if you decide to go this route) and all we were told is that the courses would be a seafood, fish, meat, salad, and dessert. We did tell them that my wife was gluten-free and that was not an issue at all. Our first course consisted of scallops, which I'm generally not a big fan of, but these were delicious! Our second course was swordfish followed by beef braised short ribs, which were to die for! Our salad course (oddly placed between the main entree and the dessert) was a beet salad. Once again, I'm not a fan of beets, and while not bad, this was my least favorite course. Finally, dessert consisted of a flourless chocolate cake with root beer ice cream. Once again...simply delicious! You are also given complimentary honey biscuits at the beginning and chocolate chip cookies at the end. While the portion sizes of each course were small, I certainly walked out plenty full. We liked that we could see into the kitchen and on our way out, we were able to thank the owner for a wonderful meal. The five-course tasting menu is $50/pp, which we thought wasn't too bad. Plan on about 2.5 hours to get thru the meal. Overall, a wonderful experience and we look forward to coming back one day.

Excellent cuisine! The tiny kitchen in this renovated row house in Perkasie cranked out an amazing variety of excellent food for a memorable and enjoyable anniversary dinner. Sweetbreads were tender and savory and nicely balanced by grits while a very elegant composed apple salad rounded out the appetizers. For the main course, lamb three ways (braised shank, sausage, and chops from the rack) was perfectly prepared and paired beautifully with a creamy mushroom risotto and the teres major (a cut of beef shoulder) was also perfectly prepared. We both finished with the delicious apple cake. The BYOB policy allowed us to bring a wonderful old bottle of our favorite cabernet, which was a bonus. Bring a good wine, worthy of great food. Service, including wine service, was great - attentive to our needs, but not hovering. The timing of courses was a little off with a long wait for appetizers, but the overall feeling was one of a very pleasantly leisurely meal. The crowd is a young one, especially later in the evening, and the small dining room got noisier as the night went on, but it's nothing like some of the deafening bar scenes elsewhere in the region, and we were easily able to maintain a comfortable private conversation. Maize is on a par with very fine restaurants in Philly or New York, and one of the very best in the Lehigh Valley/northern Bucks region. Enjoy!

Wish I would have taken a picture or two. Presentation was great, price was reasonable for what we received. A great dining experience. The food takes a bit of extra time to prepare, but the staff makes you aware of this ahead of time. The BYOB service was an added plus. Looking forward to visiting this place again. So far I'd say the best in Perkasie.

Presentation was nice, taste...was average. Pretentious is the best description. The value was simply not there. I had the seared tuna and my wife got the crab cake. Both were just average in taste, nothing special. Add the above average cost, the high noise level and almost 1.5 hrs till entree...and this was one of the worst dining experiences I've had in years. I was very disappointed since this was listed as 4.5 stars. 5/25/15 update. The restaurant refunded our bill, in light of this, it is fair to say they listened to our dissatisfaction and wanted to make us satisfied. I bumped up the rating based on this...perhaps we'll give it another try.

From the popcorn to the smile face cookies, everything was delicious! It was on Thursday night, and there were 3 other groups besides us that night. We were seated and served promptly. It's interesting to know how the service is on the weekend. This became my new favorite place to eat and bring out of town guests.

Maize remains my favorite Bucks County restaurant. The 5-course prix-fixe dinner is always a delight. We appreciate the kitchen's willingness to adapt to our food preference issues. The service team (Don and Nicole) is warm, professional and very helpful. Maize is a gem!

A wonderful farm to table restaurant. Be prepared to spend 3 hours there and don't be disappointed if you have trouble getting a reservation. Everything is made fresh and is so very delicious!

A wonderfully unique dining experience. The food and service were stellar. This is the kind of place you go to for a leisurely dinner as everything is made to order (and they tell you ahead of time that the food will take a little longer to prepare than at other places). We were told that the menu changes 3x/week! However, one item always remains as the fave and that is the bison steak. That's what I had (with mashed potatoes and spinach because I try to avoid creamy items like the creamed Swiss chard that it would have been served with). It was one of the most AMAZING meals I've ever had. Have it at the temperature they recommend. :) I had mixed field greens (w/figs, goat cheese, balsamic vinaigrette) as a starter and my dessert was the chocolate terrine (kind of like a mousse with an expresso sauce that reminded of tiramisu). I would love to go to Maize again if in the area.

This place is a true measurement of what all farm to table restaurants should strive to be. It feels like you've walked into someone's home and they are lovingly cooking you an amazing meal that is sure to sick with you in your memory's for years to come. Bravo to the chef and staff of Maize restaurant for one of the only perfect meals I've ever had.

Terrific little place in old town Perkasie. Staff are great, the food is excellent!. The chef even took a moment to say good night as we were leaving. Highly recommend this restaurant............ I almost forgot...it is BYOB. So bring your favorite.! And remember......... ***MAKE RESERVATIONS WELL AHEAD OF YOUR PLANNED NIGHT. **** definitely worth the trip!

What a great local restaurant! I have been her a handful of times & every time is great! The service is a little slow, but because everything is prepared fresh it is so worth the wait!!

This is my FAVORITE restaurant. Every dish I have tried has been excellent. The ingredients are locally sourced and fresh. This restaurant is on par or better than the best restaurants in Philly, but there is far less traffic, parking nightmares, and pretentiousness at Maize. The biscuits that come out to the table are the best I've ever had and the popcorn is awesome too. To top it all off, its a BYOB! Every time I have been to Maize I have been there for 2 hours or longer, it is definitely not where I would go if I am looking for something quick.

This is one of the top 5 restaurants I've been to in the burbs. 30 minutes and 30 un--motherfuckingfixed potholes north of Ambler, in the quaint town of Perkasie, resides an a-Maize-ing tiny little BYOB. The freshest ingredients, the creativity of food, assembly and presentation define this storefront foodie destination. The server (who also triples as bus-person and host) is terrific, well versed on each dish, presenting each menu item and each special with a special love for his role that one could envy. Dinner at Maize is a theatrical event. I couldn't wait for each next act. To start, a little bowl of popcorn coated with olive oil, chives and parsley (salt and pepper) danced on your buds as you sipped the first glass of wine. And, btw, bring two bottles of wine with you, maybe a bottle of vodka, for you will be there for two and one half hours if you order dessert. Next out were homemade warm to hot biscuits with salted butter and honey. We were on an up-slope at this point, with everything you put in your mouth getting better in stages, For apps the delicate and extremely melt-in-your-mouth tender pork cheek sat on top of a sweet potato puree and next to the most crisp, delectable snap peas. The contrast of three different food textures and related variety of colors was absolutely artwork you can eat. The seared scallops were crisp to the eye and the first entry of teeth, and then delicate and tender on your tongue, a perfectly cooked medium, which literally got so cozy in my mouth that it didn't want to leave. The two entrees ordered were the salmon with amaranth swimming gently in a grapefruit sauce and segments, and the fluke poached on top of al dente basmati rice and a few bursts of very tasty spinach with a creamy shellfish sauce. Both entrees were fabulous. It couldn't get any better, right? Wrong! The warm Polenta cake with braised blueberries and resultant glaze and olive oil ice cream sealed the deal This is one of the best experiences I have had in awhile. Foodies, trust me, this place rocks.

One of the best restaurants I've ever been to. Went with the 5 course tasting and was not let down. Had 8pm reservations and got seated around 830ish. The entire restaurant was packed. The food itself was phenomenal. The biscuits to start were soft and warm. The popcorn was a welcomed surprise. The 5 course meal started with a seafood, followed by fish, lamb, salad and desert. Topped off with a warm chocolate chip cookie. The whole experience took somewhere between 2.5-3 hours. Be sure to make reservations. We were lucky enough to get same day. The only thing I was not a fan of is that since the restaurant is so small there is no where to wait to be seated. We had to stand outside for about 30 minutes. Do not let that deter you.

This was one of the worst dinning experiences I've had in a while. We, a party of four, arrived at 7:30. We were finally served two appitizers at 9:10. That's an hour and forty minutes to make 2 appitizers. I brought it to the attention of our waiter and he gave me some flippent answer which was not appreciated. The food was very overpriced and the service terrible. This is not a place we will be going back to eat. There are plenty of good restaurants which provide friendly service and quality food and this is not one of them. Save your money and don't ruin an evening here.

Excellent restaurant, and I hesitate to give it four stars, but the food wasn't quite amazing enough to overcome some of the negatives. Don't get me wrong, the food is very very good, and for the burbs it's as good as it gets. So the place gets noisy. It's a cozy little room-too cozy if you like your physical and acoustic space. Loud voices seem amplified and you could tell the waiter was used to shouting to be heard. As soon as it got a little later and people left, the place transformed. But before that, any real conversation was near impossible. I know a lot of us are functionally deaf from concerts and headphones, but that level of constant noise is just unpleasant for me. It gets a little smokey in there too with the open kitchen attached to the small dining area. Smells great, however. The opening extras of popcorn and biscuit were terrific. The BYOB bit is a drag for some. Finally, this isn't a $$$ place-more $$, which is good. I found the price to be reasonable (the flip side of BYOB). It's also not "dressy" as it says here. I'd say anything but. Go to Maize--just pick a quiet time!
WAY overrated! This is another place that has me wondering why people seem to love it so much. The place is small, noisy, and the wait time is unreal to get your food. I guess they figure you will BYOB and drink plenty while you wait like the large table next to us of annoying drunken patrons. Don't come overly hungry because you will be waiting! It's also pricey with portions so small I could have ate again after I left. The food WAS tasty but all the other negatives I mentioned were deal breakers for me. F this place I'll never be back.

An out-of-the-way BYO in Perkasie, PA with an intelligent menu and friendly staff. Made the journey from Philadelphia across pothole-riven roads that felt like canyons. But it was worth it and fun to compare the prices and execution to our favorite BYOs in Philly. Maize passes the test. There were four of us and we started out with the beet salad, the Caesar salad, the crab salad and the pork cheeks in a parsnip puree. Couldn't go wrong with any of them though the pork cheeks were superlative and it's something you just have to sample for yourself. The crab salad deserves mention because they do not skimp on the lump blue crab nor do they dilute it with bread crumbs and flour. The biscuits served before the appetizers were fresh out of the oven and perfect. A nice touch instead of a big basket of bread. And they were served with honeycomb, butter, and salt. I had the bison filet, medium rare over a bed of spicy potato "hash." I am sure that is the wrong description from the menu. The meat was a great cut and done just right. My friend had the teres major. We couldn't decide what was better. Our group also had the crab cake and the fish special. Everything we got was served in a simple, straightforward, and artful manner. Nothing was too heavy or too much of too much. I'm looking forward to going back. If I have to be critical about something, it would be the cappuccino and the coffee we had after dinner. But this is a persnickety criticism and wouldn't affect my rating or my recommendation. A different brand of coffee or somebody more skilled with the steamer could remedy this easily enough. My favorite BYO places in Philly that have similar approach and fare are Mattyson and Mercato. Is Maize better? I will have to go again to decide but if this restaurant was located in Philly, the prices would easily be double or triple. A super place in the burbs.

Terrific cooking at this tiny storefront restaurant off the beaten path. The open kitchen turns out carefully prepared dishes of superb ingredients. Appetizers of braised mussels in a curry cream sauce, seared scallops and incredibly tender pork cheeks all delivered rich, satisfying flavors. The beef special, duck leg and short rib entrees were meltingly delicious. Portion sizes are adequate , especially for the quality. Bring some fine wine to this BYO as you will want to match the chef's creations with equally delicious pairings. Service is attentive without being overly solicitous. It can be a bit loud is there's a large group in the spare room.

This place is absolutely amazing. That's all I need to say. Took my partner here for his birthday. Farm fresh ingredients. Menu constantly changes according to fresh availability of food. The homemade biscuits were to die for. The scallops appetizer was so yum! The fresh popcorn with rosemary and other amazing spices was phenomenal. You will not be disappointed. One of the best meals ever.

Exquisite. Maize is an incredible asset to our community. Everything I've had here has been very fresh, very creative, and quite obviously lovingly prepared. The little extras that they serve gratis - warm popcorn tossed with olive oil and fresh herbs... a steaming hot biscuit with fresh butter and a slice of honeycomb... a freshly-baked chocolate chip cookie to end the meal - make you really feel that love. Portions are well-sized, presentation is lovely, and every bite of everything I've ever eaten here is an eyes-rolling-back-in-your-head-it's-so-good kinda moment. Dinner takes a while, which is a wonderful thing when you're with good company. There are few finer things in life than a delicious, leisurely meal with a good bottle of wine and good friends. The wait staff is delightful and keeps the good vibes flowing. An absolute gem in an unlikely location. The best.

We just went there a couple of weeks ago and to say that we were disappointed is not enough. It took nearly 2 hours to get our main course and the restaurant wasn't even full. Highly disappointed. I'm not sure if it was a bad night or if they've just reached their peak. We've been here where it's been wall to wall people and it never, EVER took 2 hours to get served the main course.

Dining at Maize is like going to a friend's house for dinner. And they REALLY know how to cook. And they have waitstaff. And they give you a bill before leaving. They use fresh, local ingredients and everything is prepared when ordered. Not before. It was an incredible experience last night. Delicious, awesome cuisine served at a leisurely pace which is an important point. It's a two hour meal; savor the meal and the company you're with.

After reading some of the negative reviews, I am baffled because this BYOB delivers everything one could want in an eating experience: delectable food, excellent service, and cozy ambiance. The Roasted Beet Salad with Ricotta was seasoned just right and encompassed the perfect balance of sweet, savory, and creamy. The Teres Major was simply perfect--juicy, tender, and flavorful! We were too full for dessert, but everything that came out looked decedent. All items are made to order, so this facilitates a relaxed eating experience. Don't expect to be rushed. Take your time, sip your wine, and enjoy.

Dined at maize last weekend and had an amazing experience. I live in Philadelphia so eat at some of the city's top restaurants regularly. This stands up to any of them and is in fact better then many. The star dish of the night was the bison, but everything was delicious. Service was friendly and attentive and the meal was long and relaxed not rushing us out like many byobs. This is a must try restaurant. We cannot wait to return!

This restaurant is great in every way. I know I'm not the first to say the phrase, but it is "aMaizeing." The name of the restaurant is inspired by the Lenape Indians, which were local to the area. After sitting at your table, you will receive popcorn dressed in olive oil, chalets, salt and pepper. This is given since corn or "maize" was commonly given to visitors by Indians. They also serve warm biscuits with butter and honey comb. They are served warm and they are absolutely delicious; one of the many highlights of the meal. The food is fantastic in every way, prepared by a 2 person kitchen. I've read that this can increase wait times for your meal, but if you get an early seating it may cut the wait times. Even if you need to wait for your meal, it is worth it. The food is local fresh and prepared to perfection. Their farm sources are listed on blackboards above the entry way. The venue is extremely small, seating about 20 people, but is very cozy. They book reservations about 3 weeks in advance, so be sure to make a reservation. The kitchen is open to view from the dining area in the restaurant. The do not have a bar on site, but the venue is BYO. We had three appetizers: pig cheeks, scallops, and pea soup. All of the plates are incredibly good. For an entree, we had the buffalo, their most popular entree, which comes filet style. Cooking it past medium will dry out the steak, like most filet I recommend it medium rare. The entree was prepared perfectly and everything served with the entrees and appetizers is excellent. The service was very good. There was one waiter on staff with one other person supporting them in the restaurant. I highly recommend! Great place, your taste buds will thank you!

My wife and I have been to Maize twice. Each time we have been more than pleased with our experience and the food. The owner / chef has Sioux heritage hence the name that refers to Maize. In honor of native American custom, popped corn is brought as a welcoming gift. This popcorn is spiced with herbs and olive oil. So good! Maize is BYOB and the menu changes regularly so you shouldn't expect to come back for the same thing. Never mind. The menu is great. On our recent visit, I enjoyed mussels prepared in saffron sauce that was phenomenal. For my main course the Bison filet was amazing. We had a chocolate mouse for desert that was really good. And as a finish, while we were payng the bill, we were brought 2 chocolate chips cookies that looked like smiley faces. Nice closing touch! Quick summary: if you are a foodie, you need to eat here. Such a great place!

Amazing food and atmosphere. A perfect date spot! The popcorn and homemade biscuits with honey are unique added treats. We appreciated that the chef takes the time to prepare each dish and the staff never rushes you. We spent several hours just talking and enjoying the delicious food. Also, BYOB!

I dined at Maize with my Father on a weeknight in May. During dessert, he said something that perfectly captured the experience: "This [meal reflects] what a dining experience should be about--locally-sourced food, delicious, and great service." Ambiance: Maize is a small place and probably seats approximately twenty patrons. There is an open window into the kitchen, where you can see the chefs, Matt and Don, preparing each dish to order. If you are not already flushed mid-meal from a couple of glasses of your favorite bottle (Maize is a BYO), the warmth wafting from the kitchen will leave you aglow. Popcorn: Upon arriving at your table, your server will bring over a complimentary cup of freshly-popped popcorn. The popcorn is hot and lightly seasoned with olive oil and chives. Biscuits: After you make your menu selections, a second complimentary offering will arrive: hot, moist, buttery, melt-in-your-mouth biscuits straight from the oven. The texture is sublime, with the outside cooked to the right crisp and the inside crumbling softly and elegantly. Simultaneously fluffy and dense, crisp and soft, the biscuits are above all delightfully moist and are definite crowd pleasers. Each is accompanied by a pat of butter and a square of honey comb. Salad with Goat Cheese, Walnuts, and Figs: 5 out of 5 At an apercu, the salad is deceptively simple. A dark cross-section of earthy greens in the center of the plate are lightly drizzled with dressing and surrounded by walnuts and figs. Upon closer inspection, you'll notice two wedges of freshly-cut goat cheese, with the rind intact, under the lettuce. The figs are halved and the walnuts are kept whole. The chefs' choice to leave each element as close to its natural form demonstrates careful control and deliberate restraint and a homage to nature. The sweetness of the figs plays with the creamy lushness of the goat cheese and the twang of the vinaigrette. (I uploaded a picture above.) Bison Steak: 5 out of 5 A generously-sized bison steak sits atop a bed of potatoes and Swiss chard, forming an island in a sea of flavorful sauce. Everything fades to the background when you bite into a tender and succulent bite of meat. The steak has a crisp defined sear on the outside and is soft and juicy on the inside. The potatoes and Swiss chard bathed in jus are instantly addictive; you'll lose touch with reality when the flavors sing in your mouth. (I uploaded a picture above.) Hazelnut Tart: Creamy semi-sweet chocolate is combined with coarsely-chopped hazelnuts and served in a shallow pastry shell, atop a Frangelico semifreddo chocolate sauce. The warm chocolate oozed out of the rustic crust. My Father compared the tastes and textures to a hot cookie with melted chocolate that just came out of the oven. There was also a scoop of homemade hazelnut ice cream sandwiched between two cookies. Various textural contrasts: liquid versus solid, soft versus hard, crunchy versus soggy, and the hot and cold differences heightened the dessert's whimsy. (I uploaded a picture above.) Cookies: While it is rare that a restaurant gives you two complimentary dishes, the third complimentary offering of the night arrives with your check. Gratis chocolate chip cookies are sweet finales to the meal's bittersweet ending. Overall: If asked to summarize the experience at Maize in one word, it would be "warmth." Throughout the dinner service, a symphony of heat and aroma permeated from the open kitchen into the dining room. The affable staff go above and beyond to ensure the best possible dining experience. My Father has an extensive list of food allergies and aversions; every time we visit Maize Matt and Don concoct new and interesting dishes that always exceed our expectations. Though we don't know the chefs intimately, we feel like we do. And the personal touch and extra effort they extend to us is the same care and attention they lend to every customer, every dish, every time. I noticed Matt and Don looking up from cooking throughout the evening to catch a glimpse of the diners' delight as they enjoy their food. Most importantly perhaps is that the theme of heat is ever-present in each dish that arrives from the kitchen, from the hot popcorn, to the freshly-baked biscuits, to the seared bison steak on a piping-hot plate, and throughout dessert, with the poached berries in red wine sauce to the hot-out-of-the-oven cookies that accompany your check at the meal's conclusion. Overall, Maize is a-maize and a wonderful place to enjoy dinner.

If you haven't been here yet, you haven't lived. Best food by far I've ever had. Everything is made to order so plan on being here at least 2 - 3 hours. And bring a bottle or 2 of wine if you are into that sort of thing. Chef Matt is awesome and waiter Bob is pretty special as well. Can't wait to go back!

I called to make reservations, and the person I spoke to on the phone was pretty rude and turned me off from this place. However, the reviews were good enough that I still wanted to try it. When we actually got there, the staff was very friendly. It was also my birthday, and the guys in the kitchen seemed so genuine and wished me a happy birthday. They started us off with popcorn, which we polished off quickly. Next up was biscuits with honey and butter. The biscuits were really fresh. And they gave us honeycomb! I've never had that before. I think they made the biscuits just for us, which meant it took a little longer but we weren't in a hurry. The entrees were also very good! I got the Rockfish, with butternut squash puree, pistachio sauce, and spinach. I was really savoring it, taking my time, not wanting the last bite to disappear. The two people I was with both got the duck. I tried and didn't like it, but I think it was just my personal preference. They both liked their food. To finish off the meal, they give you a chocolate chip cookie. Also baked fresh. And the cookies formed a smiley face! The presentation of everything was very nice. I would highly recommend that you try this restaurant. Don't come if you just want to grab a bite to eat and go. It's nicer, locally grown, seasonal foods that you should savor.

Since first post a few years ago very soon after they opened and around six more time since. We have always had amazing meals from start to finish and every friend or family member we've brought also comment that they had an unbelievably good dining experience. My parents were in from out of town and they both said their meals where some of the best they had ever had. **see previous review for more details on our meals**

Maize was gracious enough to fit us in for a mid-week date with no reservation. We did the extremely delicious five course tasting menu, and I have to say, I disagree with other patrons who complained about portion size. The portions were generous, and I found myself bringing home food and dessert. We started with seared scallops and corn two ways, which was our favorite dish of the night. I'm not sure where this close to home I could get a perfectly seared scallop...it was a real treat. Other highlights were the warm biscuits and the salad placed towards the end of the tasting, which I personally enjoy. Really, put a poached egg on anything and I'm over the moon, add anchovies and I might follow you home. Maize was a real treat and we'll be sure to return. Our only regret is not taking time to visit sooner.

A hidden gem in the tiny town of Perkasie. The staff is great and super friendly. We started with the biscuits which were fantastic! Then we had the scallops, mouthwatering. My wife had the crab cake and I had the salmon both of which were prepared perfectly and were some of the best I've ever had. We finished with the chocolate bread pudding and the peanut butter cake both were delectable. Overall a great place to get locally sourced, farm to table dining in a small town setting.

After much anticipation, my husband and I finally made it down to try Maize. While the concept of farm to table is in place and thriving here at this restaurant, there are many other aspects of an excellent establishment it was lacking. The acoustics for conversation are horrible leading to need to yell at your party to be heard. In such a small dining room, the music bring played should be much softer. The host and waiter (Bob) could take some lessons in hospitality. While not overtly rude, his undertone was not welcoming or pleasant in any way; and, ultimately, while I wouldn't mind giving the food a second chance here, it is because of the service I would not return. Food wise: The house popcorn and bread served at the beginning are delicious. For three first course we had the mussels and duck. Neither of us have ever had mussels served without the shells; which, I suppose, was unique, but took away the "fun" of eating mussels, the saffron sauce they were served with also lacked much flavor. The duck was served with a sauce that at first I couldn't discern, but later noted (in both entrees) to likely be fish sauce which I typically enjoy with the appropriate food (Thai, etc), but in this dish was overwhelming and did not pair well with the duck. My husband ordered the bison filet which was the best part of the meal. It was cooked to perfection with excellent accoutrements. However, my pork loin again had the fish sauce which ruined it for me. The desserts were ok, although the creme brule was served cold which was odd. The mini warm cookies served at the end with your bill are a cute touch, but consistency throughout the meal would have been preferred. Again, I would have loved to give this little spot a second chance, but with the host's poor attitude, a long drive, and mediocre dishes, we will not be returning.
Had another great dinner at this place last night!!! Chefs Tasting Was Very Well Balanced If you have not tried this place....do it. It's special

I am a person who made reservation month in advance. ... well worth it!! I have MS and have to be gluten free, they were 150% supportive and understanding. Was it a little wait for food, yes but your food is cooked to order. If you're a Fridays type diner, then the ambiance of Maize will be lost on you. Come to enjoy delicious food and the company you are with. If you want wifi and a quick burger, Maize may be lost on you. My 23 year old daughter was along with us and loved her meal, compared to mussels to those she had in Europe. Maize is wonderful. .. yes small and you need to call for a seat but don't blame them their food is so delicious they have a waiting list!!! Plan a nice evening out, more then worth the effort. And gf community, this is truly a gf friendly restaurant, most items you can have! !!

After watching the positive reviews pile up and getting a great recommendation from our daughter who recently ate here we were finally able to make it to Maize. I am not sure that I can add anything to the previous reviews other than to say that waiting this long to go is a major regret. It is very rare to find a place that lives up to the reviews; in this case Maize exceeded it. The four of us did the 5 course tasting and it was a major dilemma to figure out which course we liked more. It was one of the finest meals I have had in my memory. The dining room was handled by a single man; Bob, who offered exceptional service and was fantastic when it came to describing the food and providing the background for it. He only added to the experience in a positive way. It was not a nice night outside and there were few people there leading me to believe that we might be served faster than the other reviews claim. The number of patrons has little to do with the speed of the kitchen; it is all about the art of creating great food here. It was fortunate we had good company, good conversation and an extra bottle of wine! I can't recommend Maize highly enough and can't wait to return.

I love love love Maize!!! The food is always phenomenal, truly! Be prepared to have your taste buds assaulted. The chef delivers clean and fresh dishes for the complex palate. You will never be disappointed with the chef tasting menu. It's the equivalent to Christmas when your five. Five courses that are a complete surprise and keep you wanting more! Absolutely a culinary adventure, enjoy!!! My only complaint is the service, the staff is extremely casual and lacks professionalism. This is a shame, the cuisine is an absolute delight, but the service would keep me from going back. We recently dined there with friends that had never been and I have to say, although the food was mind blowing the service left a bad taste in our mouths. I hope Maize can work out the kinks and get back to where they were when they opened their doors.

The food was fabulous, as usual. The flavor of each item is to be savored. I can't think of a restaurant that has better food. That being said, the noise level is unbearable. You can not expect to have a conversation in this restaurant. It's such a shame, after Five years that they can't figure a way to fix this. A great meal includes everything, the ambiance is part of the experience. They need to get rid of the tile floors and the brick wall. Maybe that would help, I am not sure. Perhaps it's time to move to a bigger place( the restaurant is totally full every time I have been there.) We stopped going in cold weather because every time the door opens the dinning room becomes the same temp as the outside. I hope this issue can be fixed because between the noise and the weather I guess I will be coming less and less. One other suggestion, they could use a little help in the service department. Again, fine dining includes everything. The experience is not just the food. The waiter seems so rushed. He is the only wait staff. Know one can wait on 28 people at one time and give the best service. This food deserves the best service possible. I will go back to Maize but only if I have a 5:00pm reservation in nice weather. Maybe it will be quiter and the one and only waiter will be less rushed. Again I want to say the food was beyond comparison. I wish it was being served some place quiter.

(5)Nataki H.
(5)Richard L.
I had the most amazing meal in the area. Great restaurant. Excellent food. Nice presentation. OMG...my food was amazing. I'm already hungry and can't wait to introduce my friends to this place.
(5)S B.
(5)Paul B.
This place is flat out the best BYOB and one of the best restaurants I've ever been to. Chef Matt is a master at what he does and I've never had a just a good meal here, ITS ALWAYS GREAT!!!!

(5)Peyton G.
(5)Jazmin P.

(5)Chris M.

(5)Debbie K.

(5)Shelah L.

(4)Debbie K.
Food was amazing. We ordered the 5 course tasting menu. One of the courses was striped bass. My husband had gone fishing that morning and we asked if they would add this fresh fish into one of our courses. Every course was 5 star. Flavored and cooked to perfection!!
(5)Alexa G.
(5)Jennifer B.
(5)Marni M.
(5)Greg G.
Great food - locally sourced. Nice atmosphere, a little noisy. Big city taste in a small town restaurant. Even better that it is BYOB. Make reservations in advance.
(5)Nina S.
(5)Molly S.
A truly amazing place to eat! My meal was cooked perfectly and with delightful presentation. I will miss living near this restaurant.
(5)richard f.
(4)Randy N.
Amazing in every way. Great food. Great service. It is a wonderful experience from beginning to end.
(5)Sara H.
(5)Christy G.

(5)Andy B.

(5)Jason W.
This is hands down our fav restaurant. It's not just food it's an experience. Chef Matt puts his heart and soul into only serving u the most delish local farm to table food.
(5)Mark H.
Maize remains my favorite Bucks County restaurant. The 5-course prix-fixe dinner is always a delight. We appreciate the kitchen's willingness to adapt to our food preference issues. The service team (Don and Nicole) is warm, professional and very helpful. Maize is a gem!
(5)Jeremy B.
A wonderful farm to table restaurant. Be prepared to spend 3 hours there and don't be disappointed if you have trouble getting a reservation. Everything is made fresh and is so very delicious!

Absolutely top 3 places ever eaten Matt is an amazing chef Have made the trip from over an hr and a half away Would the last meal

(5)Jeffrey W.
(5)Joseph T.
(5)John M.
What a great local restaurant! I have been her a handful of times & every time is great! The service is a little slow, but because everything is prepared fresh it is so worth the wait!!
(5)Lula F.
(5)Brooke D.
Love the local product and seasonal menu.
(5)Rick S.
Chef Matt did it again, he cooked up one of the best meals I've ever had. ANYWHERE!!!

(1)David T.

Last night, we ate at Maze for the first time and had a great experience. The staff was friendly and thoughtful. My husband order the pork cheeks for his first course, and said they were amazing. I had the scallops over a pumpkin purée, they were cooked to perfection. For the main course my husband ordered the bison steak, which he absolutely loved and my crab cake was excellent. The best part of the meal was that the chef/owner made our six-year old daughter homemade pasta on the fly. We were so impressed and thought it was above and beyond providing outstanding service. We will definitely be back!
(5)Steve K.

(5)Joseph B.

The best.
(5)Jorge A.
(2)Larry M.
(5)Jennifer S.
(5)Nina D.

(5)Jess S.

This was our best dining experience of 2013. Our server was welcoming and friendly. The meal began with their signature chives, parsley and olive oil popcorn followed by the best warm biscuits I have had in years. My scallops appetizer was superb followed by grilled bison. It was fantastic! My wife thoroughly enjoyed her fluke and risotto. Our creme brulé and berries was a great end to this meal. And to top it off, we were served warm chocolate chip cookies! All the food is locally sourced and the freshness showed. This meal is on a par with some of our favorite restaurants from Napa and Sonoma CA. Because of their superb quality they are always booked weeks in advance but it is worth the wait! Maize is aMaizing!
