At one time, when it first opened, Ashy's was a decent burger joint. They had hand-made patties and quite good fries. It had been a while since our last visit, so we went last night. It looked like it had changed owners. The hand-formed burgers are no longer. It's pre-formed beef, probably frozen. Similarly, the fries were bland and a bit undercooked. What once was a reasonable place for a burger is not now. And the tables were not clean. We're scratching it off our list.

I have to agree with other on this one. This place is terrible. Frozen burgers with no flavor and fries that taste like oil. I was the only customer yet it took 20 minutes to make a burger and fries. Did I mention it was 12 dollars for this flavorless meal. This place is a rip off. I was asked how I wanted my burger, I said medium well not medium raw. You can expect to eat better just about anywhere. Save your self the disappointment go else where.

Absolutely awful! I ordered their ultimate mushroom burger and it was anything but. Not only was it tasteless, but the meat tasted...off. When I went to get my fountain drink, I was right by the door to the kitchen as someone was coming out, and the SMELL. I told myself it was probably just something in the garbage that needed to be taken out, but that smell should NEVER come from a kitchen. I will never come here again. The really frustrating part is that, on the surface, they look like the same kind of place as an Elevation Burger or a 5 Guys. They certainly have similar prices. But the quality you expect is not there.

Cheesesteak was dry and the cheese wasn't melted. I'd say it was on par with school cafeteria food from back in the old days. Place was clean enough. Just a place to fill you up nothing more.

We ordered from here last night for my wife, daughter and myself for the first time in almost two years. We had a hanker'in for a burger and couldn't go out because our daughter was sick. We remembered a pretty good burger place from two years ago when we moved to the area. However, the place must have changed owners between then and now because the food was pretty bad and completely different than before. Pre-formed burgers, frozen fries and a milkshake made up our meal. First, the burgers were aweful - pre-formed, frozen and not even cooked all the way. The fries were mushy and undercooked. The milkshake was decent but not great. With the other options in the area (Five Guys and Jakes) I would stay clear.

Doesn't even merit the one star but had to put something as you can't put ZERO!! I sooo wish I had read the reviews before going. I went here two years ago and it was delicious. Has it changed owners? The burgers look grey and are obviously frozen pre-formed patties like others already wrote. The fries were pale, bland and just bad. I felt so bad giving a burger from here to my 5 year old son but he was very hungry so we tried it. Never again. I couldn't even finish half of my Ashys Cheeseburger. It had little flavor and I was just grossed out by this place. I felt like I was eating the very bad fast food that you get at places like Great Adventure or local fairs. YUK!!

Well, I can't really add anything that E.A, D.L., and R.R. have not already said. Blah taste on burger and fries. Burger so overcooked it did not taste like beef. The pickles were rinsed of taste. The fries were bland (no salt) and did not really taste like fries. Maybe change to peanut oil and don't over cook the burgers and I might try it again.

I love their burgers. The buns are not your standard white bread, way better. I love that you can get whatever you want on them. The staff is very accommodating and helpful. Good location and prices, too.

I first went in when they had just opened, so maybe its different now. The burger, while juicy, was not very tasty. The second time I went, I tried the gyro, and it was surprisingly good. They also have stuffed grape leaves which are great! PRO- The ethnic menu. CON- Unfortunately the burgers are mediocre at best. Will be back, just not for burgers.

I've been here probably 6 times in the last 2 weeks, as my office is within walking distance. I've ordered the cheesburger and their milkshakes and so far it has been superb each and every time. Service is great and so is the food.

Had a very good experience last night. Went with my husband, toddler and infant. It was a good place for kids and not very busy. I really liked their chix fingers/fruit/milk kids meal (the bbq sauce was awesome). My mushroom and swiss burger was really good and the roll was one of the best parts. The fries I thought were very good. It was a little expensive (two burgers, one a triple decker, fries, kids meal, two drinks, milkshake and cookies) at about $35. Will definitely be going back here. The down side was there was no menu on the wall and i thought fries or drink should be included in some kind of meal option.

I have reviewed quite a few places and find people feel more so compelled to complain than compliment. I have a huge compliment for the man seemingly solely running Ashy's. He is always there and cleaning! Its an immaculate storefront. There is a Help Wanted sign in the window but you would never know it was needed. My boyfriend and I arrived at Ashy's 15 min before closing on a Sunday. We felt bad, but there was no turning back after we saw the time. The gentleman was keeping busy prepping napkins for the next day. He diligently stopped and took our order not making us feel bad about it being so close to closing. He beautifully prepped our food and gave great portions. I was in awe, the fact this man is there all the time and makes the food with love no matter the time. Our sandwich was wonderful and the salad clean, fresh, and cut beautifully. That's passion and hard work if I ever saw it. Sir, you are appreciated!

I found out about this place through the restuarant.com deal they offered. I had the Cheesesteak with onions and mushrooms. It was delicious. It took awhile for the food to come out although no one else was in the restaurant. The place is clean and has a fancy menu display.

Great quality food and good selection. Mediterranean salads and Gyros particularly well prepared. The standout is the FALAFEL. None better on this portion of the main line.

    (5)
  • Matt C.

The best burgers and fries on the Main Line. The burgers come on what seems like is a freshly baked artisan bun with a good size, high quality patty and the fries are big, thick UNSALTED potato slices--something that is pretty rare to find. They're salads are also a good size portion and very tasty. I have never personally had one, but I've heard the gyros are excellent too. The restaurant is extremely clean and I always feel welcome. A truly hidden gem on the Main Line!

  • S. C.

Best burgers on the main line, hands down. I have brought dozens of co-workers here, from across the U.S., UK and Australia, and they always ask the same question: why would anyone go to a five guys or shake shack when this is an option? I can't answer! Burgers are fresh, cooked to order, and they're huge. They're also cheap if you're comparing them to any place without a 99 cent menu. Gyro is great, falafel and eggplant sandwiches as well, but the burgers are the namesake for a reason. The owner is friendly, quiet, and really cares that you enjoyed your meal. Can't recommend highly enough. One last comment, reading through some other reviews, I can't tell if some of these people have just never had a good burger before, or work for the competition. If your idea of a great burger is something you can get at McDonald's, you don't like burgers, you like "ground beef jerky".

Gyro was tasty! The ambiance and branding could use some work, but for a quick bite to eat, it works.

I hate piling on a local small business. Seriously, I believe that here in Yelpland, too many people go straight to the one star review too easily over the littlest things. It affects businesses when you do that. I hate affecting a local small business that way when I know it's so tough to succeed. But sometimes I can't avoid it. You see, I know the previous owner of this establishment. He took immense pride in the quality of his food, and still does. For his own reasons, he decided to sell this location a while back to concentrate on his other restaurant. I have not been back here under the new ownership until today. I don't know what brought me here. Curiosity perhaps. Maybe I wanted to give them a shot to earn a few stars. Maybe they're reading the reviews and trying to improve. But I don't say this lightly. Perhaps there are unknown business reasons why this place struggles. Running small businesses is tough. I get it. They've had a rash of bad reviews lately. This place isn't nearly as busy as it was under old ownership. Items in the restaurant appear to be falling into disrepair. No one here looks happy to be working here. I sense bad things are happening, and that makes me sad to see it happening. But one thing is certain. You cannot, in good faith, serve that piece of meat in that burger, in that bun, for the price they're charging. It's a crime. And I'm betting that every single problem they are having stems from the fact that their product is inferior. Previous reviews are right. This burger was obviously pre-frozen. The taste or lack thereof betrays it. The condiments and even the bacon could barely mask the lack of flavor. The previous owner served fresh product for that price. To charge $6.89 for what barely passes for a frozen supermarket burger is inexcusable. I'm sad to see this place in the state it is in now. I don't want to see it happen. But I totally understand why it is. I hope the ownership takes this as constructive. They need to change the way they do things, and change it fast. Someone call Chef Robert Irvine. We have an emergency here.

This is my first visit here. I was craving a gyro and quickly found this place through a google search. I was concerned by the lack of reviews but I figured I would give it a shot. I regret that now. The other reviews on here are true. The food is mediocre and definitely not worth their high price tag. I've eaten far better for much less. I will give them props for keeping the place clean but that's the extent of my satisfaction with this place.

    (3)
  • Jeff B.

Definitely agree with the other reviewers. Food quality is terrible. Had a chicken sandwich. It was clearly a frozen cutlet about 2" wide with some hot sauce and a huge ass bun (stale). The fries were meh. Took surprisingly long to cook this mediocrity. The only reason I'm giving it two stars is because it was clean (probably because there are no customers) and the nice man at the register. BTW. Who thought it was a good idea to cram Greek food onto a menu with bar food. That's a recipe for failure.

Really great burgers fresh and filling, fries are good and amount is plentiful. Friend had a chicken burger which she claimed was super yummy my other friend had a salmon burger and really enjoyed it. It's fairly pricey but the burger are large so with kids you may want to cut one in 1/2 and one order of fries would serve 3 people . I recommend as a good place for burger variety.

I was starving. It was already 3PM and I last ate sometime early morning. So by the time I walked into Ashys I was ready. Since they had just opened in the Paoli Shopping Center I figured-check em out. I walked through the door and the only occupied table had an employee sitting and reading the newspaper. Ok, it's late after lunch and before dinner. But you get it, I'm the only customer in the store. And no one is paying attention to me. No hello, no nod of the head-not even interest that I'm there. The cashier is languishing behind the counter doing nothing. I look around to see what they have to offer, and finally spot the pamphlet menu on the side of the cash register. I'm already thinking, why didn't I wait and go to 5Guys. Ordered a cheese burger, small fries and soda. $9.72 to go. Took 5-10 minutes to get it. To be expected. Being so hungry I ketchup-ed everything up and took a bite of the burger right then and there. OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH why didn't I wait for 5Guys. Got in the car and started eating the fries. Okay they were hot and crispy, but NO flavor. Salt? Somebody talked about salt? There was nothing on them except the oil they were fried in. Even the ketchup and additional salt packs could not cover the bland taste. And when they got warm, they turned from crunch to rubber. I finally dug in to the rest of the burger when I got home. Put tons of salt and ketchup on it, and still you could taste the blandness. And all I can say is go to 5GUYS. I will not be going back to ASHYS any time in the future.

  • Rosalie R.

I completely agree with E.A. If you are hungry for a burger go to 5 Guys and take a PASS on Ashys. Burger = pale and tasteless - oh, unless you count the nasty aftertaste. Burger Toppings = if you like pale tomatoes and pickles rinsed of all good pickley flavor, be my guest. I would have to say if I went back (only if I had a gun to my head and the assailant wanted to go here) I would have a sandwich with just the toppings. As bad as they were they were at least better than the burger. Fries = cheap - also tasteless. Falafel App = okay if you smothered them in the cucumber yogurt sauce and you tried to forget they were reheated and mealy as you ate them. Skip it.

Ashys burger is not worth your time. I was short on time during a lunch break and thought I would give it a shot. I ordered a bacon cheese burger and fries. Not only was I unhappy with paying $ 10.50, but I also got burnt bacon on my burger. The fries had no salt on them and the burger had no flavor. I suggest driving an extra 10 min down the street to five guys if your in the area and crave a burger.

GOOD ~ Their Homemade Chili was my favorite! It's kind of like the filling you get in a Australian Meat Pie, including the vegetables. AVERAGE ~ The Cheese Burger, Fries and Chocolate Chip Cookies were ok. OK ~ My Hotdog fell apart b/k the roll got soggy from being wrapped in aluminum foil.

Do we really need another burger joint? They seem to be popping up around the Philly Five County Area like pop corn! Ashys Burger & Fries is located in the Paoli Shopping Center. Upon walking into the store, is the crackling sound of bacon on the grill. The air has a slight smell of bacon. I tried the store mainstay, a Double Bacon Cheeseburger and a small order fries. In the back of my mind, i can picture a cardiologist at the Paoli Hospital rubbing his hands together as I chomp into my medium well cooked colossal feast! The burger taste was ok but the french fries were better than average. They were nice and crunchy with the correct amount of salt. I plan on returning to Ashys to try what looked like Lamb Kabob (ground up lamb meat with spices) looked intriguing. I will save that sampling for another day!

The burger was decent but it was a bit dry and the flavor of the meat seemed to get lost (maybe the meat is a bit too lean). I had a bacon cheeseburger with lettuce and tomato. There is no option for how you want the burger cooked. Well done only which to me is a shame if the meat is supposed to be good. The bun was nice. Contained the meat and toppings well. The fries were nice. Maybe a little overcooked but nicely salted and the flavor of the potato was pretty evident. The small portion I ordered was more than sufficient in size. The black and white milkshake could have used a bit more "black". The inability to have it malted was a little disappointing. Not surprising, but disappointing. So...three stars then. I will be going back to try some of their other menu items. I'm a sucker for a good gyro and chicken sandwiches so fingers crossed.

I don't know what these people are talking about. These burgers are really really yummy!! I ordered the Ultimate Swiss & Mushroom burger - it was a juicy burger topped with mushrooms, bacon and melty swiss cheese - along with lettuce & tomato. It was also drizzled in a garlic sauce. I had never eve heard of this place, but went with some people from work and I will definitely be going here again. The staff were very nice, and even brought our food outside to where we were sitting since it was so nice out. It will be difficult to try another burger next time I go since this Ultimate burger was soo good - but I will try something new next time. Soo good juicy and love the garlic sauce addition to the regular 'shroom & swiss burger - and WHO doesn't like bacon! Def try them out if you are looking for a good juicy burger and are in the area!!

Gyro was tasty but my husband found hair in his BBQ chicken burger and the chicken noodle soup we ordered didn't have chicken or noodle. Just a lot of celery and onions. Will not be going back :(

This restaurant looks clean, and the staff is friendly enough. One of the employees brought my order to my table. I thought that was nice. The burger was juicy but did not have an incredible taste. The fries were crisp enough. It was a bit expensive ($10-11 for a burger and fries)--at least that's my opinion. I would not make this place a regular stop, but I will most likely come back from time to time.

well, unfortunately, im going to have to disagree with most of the other reviewers. Im sorry if you hate that another burger place has arrived, but id rather see another burger place than some lame so so pizza joint, seriously! Anyhow, Ashy's was spot on when i went. There were alot of people when i went, probably like 10 - 15 people. Everbody was grubbin. I have been jonesing to go to Primanti's, so when i saw their version on the menu, i had to order it! 2 of 'em in fact! I took em back to my work, delicious. I mean cmon, bacon, cheese, the works, plus fries on your burger... Ya gotta get over to Ashy's and support a new local shop! Great guys in there! Im going back as soon as I can to try the falafel, chili, and jalapeno poppers!

So I just had the best burger of my life! The double bacon cheese burger here is so much food and not at all what I was expecting. The patties are giant and juicy, and it's made fresh - was even asked how we wanted it done (medium rare please). Definitely not a typical fast food burger joint. We got lettuce tomato onions and mushroom as toppings and they came out layered like a work of art - the mushrooms were all in between the two patties, which, I don't know why but just made it so amazing! You can just tell that everything was made with love and attention to detail by someone who loves food (and have perfectionist tendencies). I could see people charging $20 for this gourmet burger experience at a really fancy restaurant, but instead it was barely a little more expensive than a fast food place; very economical. It seems really odd that there are all these one star reviews saying go to Five Guys instead. People who work nearby highly recommended this place, and I would definitely come back!

I ordered a simple Greek salad. It was horrible. Basically just lettuce a few stingy small pieces of feta and like three olives. I asked for oil and vinegar on the side and got a container of some vile oil. Definitely not olive oil and no vinegar at all. And to top it off, the wait was ridiculously long. Others in the restaurant were having similarly bad experiences with one woman having to take her lunch to go since the wait was too long. I got the sense that the owners were in way over their heads that day. I won't return.

I would come here occasionally because it was the only place in Paoli that served a gyro, and I always ordered ahead because I realized from past experience that it takes a little longer than a normal restaurant to receive your orders. They just lost my business though. I place my order online at 12:07 for a gyro and a mediterranean wrap, being a work day I had a few things i needed to do so I got some things done and arrived at 12:37 asking about the order to pick up. They seemed confused, checked their computer and said they just got it (ie, they just looked). I told them it wasn't a big deal, these things happen and knowing it'll be a little bit I walked next door to pick up a couple of things. I come back 15 minutes later and wait, and wait, and wait, finally at 1:19 I ask whats going on and they said 5 more minutes. We all know what five minutes means. Thankfully I didn't pay with my credit card online and just walked out going to wawa who had my order done in two minutes. How long does it take to heat up lamb? The Mediterranean wrap was vegetarian with the most intensive ingredient being hummus. One hour and twelve minutes from when I ordered (and 42 minutes from when they 'saw' my order) is the reason I will no longer be going to Ashys Burgers.

Placed an order with special instructions to include hot sauce and cajun seasoning on the side. When I received my order the cajun seasoning and hot sauce were not with my order. I called to have the items brought back out to me but was told by an Asian sounding man, that they were extremely busy would not be able to rectify the problem. I hung up, but called back, and demanded that the items be brought out, and was told by the girl that delivered my order that she would be right out. Nearly 25 minutes later, the delivery girl shows back up. Needless to say their customer service is something to said for. Don't get me wrong the food is good, yes the burgers appear to be frozen preformed meat and they have changed their "Tzatziki" sauce. but the food is good, their Customer Service is horrible...

Average at best. Kind of a sad place. I had never been here. Stopped in for a "quick" burger at lunch while I was shopping nearby. A very nice old man took my order AND made my burger. Took a while. Only 1 other customer there. Clean place, nothing of note. Pre-formed burger, pretty tasteless, on oversized bun. Absolutely nothing special. Average at best. I'm not sure why I just paid $6 for something like that. You can't charge $6 for a pre-formed burger and expect to be taken seriously. Honestly I don't know why this place exists. Food seems barely average, wait time is long and prices are high. If you are a 'burger' place and your burgers are pretty bad, why are you in business? From what I read I see it is under new management recently. I guess they used to sell unique burgers, who knows. Go to Five Guys or anywhere else to get a burger this expensive. Only reason I gave it 2 stars is because I didn't get sick and the man working there seemed very nice.

the other recent reviewers are correct. i had eaten here a few yrs ago and it was a good burger joint like a Five Guys. i was even impressed that i could place an order online. Alas, it was really awful. it was a pre-shaped, like from a frozen form, patty smushed with condiments and an overly sized bun. It really sucks that I paid $6 and couldn't even bring myself to finish eating it. I got an order of fries and yup..boring flavor with a taste of once frozen. when i got there to pick up the order i had placed online, the cook in the back looked so depressed and kinda stared at me. there was no one else there...it was eerie. i was given my order and then asked for a receipt that i had purchased it online. hmm. isn't that kinda the point of picking it up after ordering it online?? i wouldn't recommend this place to anyone. you're better off going to burger king.

Positives: I've had much better burgers elsewhere but not bad Negatives: menu indicates all burgers are cooked to well done, prices are insane, (2 burgers, "couples" fries, and 2 small drinks for $22.00 we coulda had a better meal at Baxter's across the parking lot for that), fries were over cooked and salty. I'd recommend skipping this place. Try TJ's just west on 30- fantastics burgers and a much better atmosphere

  • Shea M.

This place is horrible. I got their cheeseburger today, and it looked pretty good, actually. Then I ate it. The onions were actually the only thing you could really taste, beside the bun. The tomatoes were tasteless, same with the lettuce and cheese. I was actually looking forward to the burger. It was totally dry and tasteless! It didn't even taste like anything. It tasted like literally NOTHING! It was horrible, and I just couldn't finish it. The patties are probably frozen. They should really spend more time and cook their own, fresh. The fries are alright, but could've used some improvements. I noticed they were freshly made, so that's always good. I tried the gyros too, and they are not as bad. The meat could've used a bit more flavor, but better than the burger! They should really just eliminate burgers from their menu and make it a Greek/gyro place, because that's really their specialty. I'm sure they'd get a lot more buzz that way anyway. The inside of the place could really use some improvements. They had a bunch of random Forbes magazines on the counter that really are just taking up space. Who's going to read Forbes while eating a burger? They had no menu on the wall, just a powerpoint on 2 screens going, which was quite frustrating. As I was trying to read something, it flipped to something else on their menu. There were little take-out menus to read, which is okay, but I would've preferred an actual menu. The place also needs to work on their grammar. Although this is silly, I'm a bit persistent about this. They should really have an apostrophe in their name, Ashys, to make it Ashy's. Second, there was a sign in the store that said, "Ashy"s burgers and subs's" Is it really that hard to work on your grammar? It's not a big deal, but just an annoyance. The service is actually great. All the workers are nice and bring the food out to you. Someone actually came and took our food away from us too, which was great. The workers are all great, the food, not so much. I'd say if you're looking for a burger, take the extra time and go to Five Guys, a little bit down the road. They have burgers, fries, and hot dogs there that are much better than this place. If you're looking for a gyro, there's definitely much better places to go, but this one will settle. I haven't tried the shakes, but I wouldn't really waste your time. I'm sure you can get better ones somewhere else.

I had the BBQ chicken sandwich and enjoyed it very much. The sauce was delicious and the bacon was cooked just right for my liking. I also grabbed some wings. I went with the mild sauce as my stomach is weak like that. Haha. I found the wings to be decent and the sauce was rather hot. Finally, the black and white milkshake was filling. I do love a good shake and their blend was good for me.

the burgers from this place were absolutely tasteless and dry. I would not recommend this place to anyone. You're better off going to five guys any day for the price you pay for the burgers from this place.
