I decided to give the Octoraro Tavern another try during lunch today and was pleasantly surprised. My first experience here wasn't the best (see my previous review below) but this time it was much better. The staff was friendly and attentive, the hostess greeted me as soon as I walked in, the bartender asked if I was interested in any popcorn and the manager/owner was walking around checking in on all of the customers to make sure that they were having an enjoyable experience. I had come in during my lunch hour so my time was limited but the food arrived quickly and was just as I expected. The bartender checked on my frequently and make sure that my drink never got too low and that I had everything I needed. Thankfully this experience changed my thoughts about the place and now I know that I have a local restaurant to frequent when I am in need of a fast place to stop for lunch or to enjoy a beverage while watching a game. I am sure that after a few more experiences like today I will be updating my rating to 5 stars in the near future! ------------------------------------------------------------------- Initial perception was a little poor and the Service was just OK. When my wife and I "tried" to walk into the place we had a hard time figuring out which door to use. They have at least 4 different ones and 3 of them were locked. It was only a side door (think in an alley) that was open. Why the front doors were locked I will never know. NOT a good way to invite customers into your establishment! After we were inside we even heard the cooks commenting on how they couldn't figure out why customers weren't "smart enough" to use the side door. NOT GOOD. Once we got in we were told to seat ourselves so we sat down at the bar. It took a while for us to be greeted but that could be due to the fact that they only had ONE bartender/server during the lunch time rush. It took at least 10 - 15 minutes for our order to be taken and drink refills were pretty slow as well. Once the food did arrive we were pleased with what we received. My wife had a burger and I had their buffalo chicken sandwich. Portions were plentiful and they tasted fresh. I would have hoped for a little more of a menu selection but that is just personal preference. When you see the size of the kitchen you will understand why they can not offer too much. Prices were reasonable for the food we received. Overall, I was torn between 3 & 4 stars for this place. I had to drop it down to 3 because of the service and the fact that we watched multiple people, including ourselves, struggle to even get in the place. The cooks comments about the customers not being able to get in and the fact that they didn't even do a thing about it was very sad. While the food was good, a restaurant needs to be much more than that to survive. Anyone can make burgers or chicken sandwiches. It is your service that will set you apart from the others. I will give this place another chance but if they do not improve then I have a feeling I will be taking my business elsewhere.

The Octoraro Hotel & Tavern is a new joint that's actually an old joint. Originally established in in 1827 this building has seen a lot of history in it's time. While the hotel is gone, the rooms are now apartments, the tavern is doing fine. New owners took over in 2013 and they've launched a nice little local community establishment. There's a small dining area in the front as well as outdoor seating when the whether permits. Inside immediately after the first dining area you'll find the bar itself. It's a partial 'in the round' design with seating on 3 sides, and a kitchenette along the back wall. Behind the bar is another dining area, a jukebox and a small pool room. When there's a band playing they set them up where the jukebox is and it can be a little tight back there. The menu is standard pub fair. Apps, Salads, Wraps and Burgers / Sandwiches. We started off with Mozzarella Sticks and Chili Cheese Fries. When my turn to order arrived I opted for the Oxford Outlaw Burger which is a Bacon Cheeseburger with Cheddar cheese and Mushrooms. My burger was a hand made patty cooked to perfection and it came with a side of fries. Other items on the table included a couple of more burgers, a grilled chicken sandwich, chicken tenders and I think I spotted an order of sweet potato fries at the far end. Several of the staff took care of us at the table and kept the drinks full and cleared the plates as we emptied them. Smiles all around from us and the staff who were genuinely friendly and aiming to please. The price of the meal for 4 adults and 2 children came out to approx $60. Definitely a good affordable experience and worth checking out if you're down in Oxford.

Quick dinner of hamburger, fries and drink. Inexpensive but burger burned and dry. Fries cooked to dark brown, so food was just bar food in quality so do not expect gourmet. Service was fine, parking lot in rear. Great bar to hang out in with TV and music, loud and full of people.

The old hotel still is a local watering hole after all these years...but now they have pretty good burgers.. Nice staff and quick!

Eaten there a couple times and the food is very good but the service has been sketchy. Food can take a very long time come to the table even when the restaurant doesn't seem that crowded. Very good burger and cheese steak. I will definitely go back.

New owners, place is really coming up. It's a historic place with a lot of the original interior. Still a work in progress but excellent choice for Oxford. Had the best burger ever made by Miles (I think) bartender Misty was super friendly and we were made to feel welcome. Beers and food reasonably priced. No more smoking in there! Yay! We will definitely be going back. I can't wait to see all of the changes that are planned.
