I recently ate here; my experience was really different from the older reviews, like Joey B's. This place was advertised as a Mexican place, and its menu looked strictly Mexican--and it looked authentic, catering to Mexicans rather than "gringos". I also noticed that, during my time here, every other person who came in here was speaking exclusively Spanish, so I suspect this caters more towards Mexicans. I ordered three tacos and they were all outstanding. I ordered Al Pastor (spiced pork with pineapple), Carnitas (pork), and Chicken. The food took a while to come out. You can watch them cook in the back: it takes a bit of time because they're not cutting corners. The meat is not pre-made the way it is at places like Chipotle...they cook everything fresh to order. The Al Pastor came with big chunks of fresh pineapple, and was excellent. The Carnitas was my favorite: juicy, lucious, with big, moist, tender, fatty pieces of pork, like I like. The chicken was good, but was probably the least exciting of the three. Each taco came with cilantro and onion, just the right about of onion, not too pungent, and the cilantro was very fresh. There were also three slices of lime, one for each taco. The lime was very fresh as well. Oh, and the green sauce...it deserves its separate paragraph. It's rich, slightly soupy, slightly tangy. Moderately spicy. Very tasty. I used all of it up, between the three tacos. I think the carnitas taco was the best of the three at pairing with the green salsa. The bathroom was also clean, and the man working the counter was very nice and was good at communicating in English although he did have a relatively heavy accent. The atmosphere is pleasant, and the tables were very clean. Parking on this block is pretty easy, and it is 2 hour parking without meters, which is nice because just a block away you have to pay for meter parking. And the price was very reasonable. My three tacos came to under $7. I heartily recommend this place. I've tried lots of Mexican food, lived in San Diego for a while too. This place is fairly simple and straightforward, but I'd put in the top tier of Mexican restaurants in terms of the overall experience and quality of the tacos. And it certainly is among the top tier of restaurants in Norristown, and probably in the broader Philly metro area as a whole too.

Insane. Bananas. Transcendent. Small "hole in the wall" place, but a hidden jewel. I've introduced this restaurant to several friends and then run into them eating there at later times. This means that my personal friends have chosen these tacos over me. It's a family-owned business serving authentic Mexican cuisine from Puebla. It's so good that when we were in Mexico for our honeymoon, we missed the salsa verde here in Norristown. The green sauce is a slow burn, very flavorful. I asked if they can sell me a gallon of the sauce and the owner looked at me like I was insane. And then he actually calculated it out and offered to sell it to me (what a champ!) The red will melt your face off - it can go to hell. Only fools eat the red sauce. FOOLS! It's not on the menu, but if you like moderate spice, ask for tinga chicken in your tacos. There are a lot of options for people that do not like spicy food as well. I highly suggest the Mexican salad - huge portions, lots of fresh veggies and avocados. The burritos are the size of your head. Grab a frequent shopper card - you will visit this place more than once. This is why we're fat.

I always get the three taco deal for lunch and it's always deeelicious. The place looks kinda dumpy by that means they're spending all their money on making sure the food is good, and it's excellent.

Second time here. Got chips and guacamole. OH EM GEE! Chips were served hot, perfectly cooked and salted, extremely crispy and still with a slight chew in the middle. Guacamole had nice size chunks of avocado and perfect amount of cilantro and lime. Chicken tinga taco is so flavorful and a good amount of heat. Carne asada taco is what I judge a Mexican place by and they do not disappoint! Looking forward to next time!
Yes, this is a dive but the tacos are delicious. The meat (steak, chicken, pork, and chorizo) was really well seasoned unlike other Mexican places where all they add is hot sauce. We also tried their nachos with all the different types of meat and it was awesome. Oh, and they add cinnamon to their house coffee which was also great. Now they do accept credit cards.

I'm kind of embarrassed to say I was so sad when Baja Fresh in KOP went under. I enjoyed their food, it satisfied a craving. But it in no way compared to this place. Holy cow, I cannot believe what I was missing! We happened upon this place on a ride home from Ikea, and decided to try it out. First, the chips and guacamole are all handmade right in front of you. They literally make the chips and guac to order, and it was beyond delicious. I got an asada sope which was good, I don't know if I'd order it again (I wanted to try something new) but the flavors were all there. Husband got 2 chicken tinga and 1 bistec tostada and he raved about them as well. I took a bit of the tinga one and it was very good with nice spice. I've driven by this place so many times I cannot believe it took us this long to finally stop in and try it. This is definitely going to be our go-to place from now on for mexican food.

Taqueria Puebla is a solid Mexican taqueria spot on Main St in Norristown. It's a small hole-in-the-wall but is clean inside. Order at the counter then grab a seat. Cash only. The menu is made up of Entrees, Tacos, Sandwiches (Cemitas & Tortas), and Cheesesteaks (American and Mexican style). There are also some specials on the whiteboard (Sopes, Chile Rellenos, etc.) Food highlights: - Taco arabes - popular fast food in Puebla (think taco / gyro hybrid) - Tacos--- you can get grilled cactus and onions (nopales) on the side - Sope - I thought the sope here was awesome, well put together - Jalapeno Cheesesteak Deluxe - Cheesesteak with jalapenos, avocado, mexican cheese -- has a great kick to it - Cubano Cemita - eggs, chorizo, pork with avacado, cheese, jalapenos, etc. Notes: - Al pastor has pineapple in it - tacos with cactus! - Cheesesteaks if you have kids who are picky - only place in Philly I've seen that has Tacos Arabes

Killer food! Better than any other Mexican I have had in the the area hands down. But I didn't try no chicken burrito! No, I went for the lengua (beef tongue) and chicharron (pork skin) picadatas. Growing up Italian in S. Philly and then living in San Diego for 5yrs I do consider myself knowledgable about really good Mexican food. Crossing the border for Mexican food was a normal occurrence. 3 tacos for a dollar! I have been searching for anything close to even San Diegian type Mexican food (carne asado burrito anyone?) since I've been back. This place blew me away. It was some of the best food I have ever had, including dear-to-my-heart Italian dare I say. I've had all kinds of things off of their menu since and its all outstanding. Just be aware that "de pata" I believe is chopped beef or pork knuckle or tendon and might not be for everyone. This place isn't close to were I live either, and it is a hole-in-the-wall if you want to call it that but it was always clean. My opinion is that these guys are masters at the art of cooking no less Mexican food. The prices are real nice too. Try the tostadas!!

Before I really dig into this review, you have to understand what kind of place Taqueria Puebla actually is. It's a hole-in-the-wall on Main St in Norristown, but despite it's very Mexican sounding name, Taqueria Puebla advertises itself as a traditional American lunch spot... hoagies, cheesesteaks, burgers, salads, etc. Like many other lunch spots around Norristown, it has a few tables, but you order at the counter. Above the counter is the menu, which again, is entirely American. Having read the other Yelp review for Taqueria Puebla, and being convinced that the name must imply Mexican food somehow, I asked the friendly fellow working the counter what the deal was. He then, and I'm not kidding, pulled out a Spanish menu which I guess is offered only to local Mexicans, or gringos who ask about it. Thusly, keeping in line with MexiQuest (my new term for the Norristown Mexican restaurant eating tour I subjected myself to) I will be reviewing Taqueria Puebla entirely from the perspective of it being a Mexican restaurant, which ultimately it is not, at least from a traditional viewpoint. Taking a cue from a fellow reviewer, I ordered a chicken burrito. It was made quickly, and looked delicious. A moderate-sized burrito (along the lines of the size you might get at a Chipotle or Qdoba), it was filled with avocado, tomato, lettuce, beans, cheese, and chicken, and topped with sour cream and cilantro. It had all the makings of an amazing burrito.... But it wasn't. Why? Well it was immediately apparant that the chicken the restaurant uses for it's chicken cheesesteaks is the same chicken they use in their chicken burrito. You might wonder why this is a problem, but chicken cheesesteak chicken is a very specific type of chicken, and it's generally seasoned and marinated for the specific purpose of cheesesteakage. Thus, when it's put in your burrito, you're left with the odd feeling that what you're eating is a chicken cheesesteak burrito, or a very Mexican cheesesteak wrap. It's a very odd crossover, not wholly bad per se, but if you're expecting a traditional burrito (which I was) you're going to be disappointed. It's a shame, really, because the price is right ($6.75 on the menu, but the gentleman who was working only charged me $6, including a Jarritos soda), the toppings and fillings are spot on, and the service is fast and extremely courteous, and they speak perfect English. I really wanted to like Taqueria Puebla, and it wasn't that I disliked what I had (I finished it, and it wasn't bad) but ultimately it was not what I wanted.

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

Good Mexican food. This is one of our go to places for take out. Pastor tacos are delicious and so are the tinga tostadas. It's hard for me to find a place that I really enjoy their tinga. I used to work in a Mexican restaurant that did tinga beautifully and this place nails it. Their guac is spicy! I liked it but my fiancé couldnt eat it bc it was too spicy. All around great for take out and they are quick!!!
