My husband and I stayed 3 nights in June to attend a wedding and celebrate our anniversary. We loved New Hope and our stay at Porches on the Towpath made it wonderful. I do not have a great array of B&B stays to compare it to. The pillows weren't my favorite, there were some issues with cleanliness and part of the mixed fruit served with breakfast was canned. Great points were the theme of decor, the use of the porch (our room opened to the upper deck), warmth and helpfulness of the owner, the location, access to the Towpath and the free parking. The breakfasts were filling, served hot and tasty. Coffee and tea are readily available. I would stay here again.

The only words I have is WOW! I loved every second of being in this place from the decor, it's farmhouse/country/vintage inspired design, from John the business man himself and I believe the lady that works there her names Karla? They were all fantastic! and so was Mimi the dog! She was a little defensive of her owner though growling once anyone got too near to John but, absolutely harmless. The only reason I didn't give this place a 5 was because the garden could use a little TLC. If you are a yuppy person I wouldn't stay here, if you love character and charm and appreciate design and architecture from an eclectic standpoint this place will just sweep you off your feet. We had an egg strata the next morning and it was made very well and served very hot. The coffee was freaking fantastic, the sugar was fluffy and of good quality. When we first went into the house John greeted us, helped me with my bags upstairs and am showed us around the place making us feel very comfortable and happy with our decision. I will be going back

We stayed at Porches last night in the private suite (Room 5). John and Krissy were so accommodating and indispensable to my boyfriend who was making plans to propose to me. They set up the room for us with champagne, chocolate, and flowers chosen by my boyfriend -- it was the perfect romantic and intimate place to get engaged! We ended our stay with a lovely breakfast on the porch -- homemade waffles and bacon & everyone at Porches congratulated us on our new engagement! I highly recommend staying here -- you will be well taken care of!!!

Just got back from a quick visit to New Hope. We absolutely loved Porches,...and apparently so do the locals. When people in town asked where we were staying - They all said they thought Porches was the best. The home is beautiful, Staff was super friendly and helpful, rooms are unique and the breakfast was superb. We will definitely go back!

I want to live here forever! The host and staff are friendly and helpful without being imposing. The rooms are all very tastefully decorated and comfortable. The ambiance is laid back and friendly. The gardens are lush and pleasantly overgrown. New Hope can get a little crowded and loud; Porches is right in the middle of everything, but it succeeds in being quiet and tranquil. The breakfasts are huge and delicious, and are served on the porch. The coffee was so good I overdosed! Make sure you ask the owner to show you his jack russell's ball trick. We loved our room, #3. It was small but cozy, not at all cramped. We loved the antiques as well as the art on the walls. The room was private, but had french doors leading to the balcony. The balcony was comfortably furnished and surrounded by trees, making it a lovely place to hang out in the afternoon. Our mattress was a bit more firm than I prefer but I slept like a baby. Make sure you bring your own toiletries; I packed light, assuming that they would have little shampoo bottles. They only provide soap. The atmosphere is very warm, welcoming, and relaxed. After a long, crowded afternoon of shopping, it was heaven to walk down Fisher's Alley to our peaceful little nest. I love this place. New Hope is a long way from home and I went assuming that it was a one-time visit. Now I really look forward to returning and staying longer. What a wonderful experience!

My girlfriend and I recently took a much needed break to New Hope, PA this week, and stayed at this B & B. We both agree that it was a wonderful experience!! The location is perfect (right in the middle of town, though very quiet and tranquil) and the room was terrific...we stayed in # 12 (big bed and a wonderful bath tub). The inn-keeper, John, and his staff were welcoming and gracious. Their knowledge of the area, as well as recommendations of what to see, do and eat, were most welcomed. The only downside to our visit were the breakfasts themselves. They were just...ok. The dining is at one communal table, so if you're morning people (which we aren't) you may not enjoy having to make small talk with other guests. That said, we always had the option to have our breakfast served in our room (which we took advantage of the last day we were there). We will definitely be back, and highly recommend this inn to anyone looking to get away from the hustle and bustle.

Terrific experience at a fun and beautiful B & B, This is only the 3rd B & B I've been to and it is my favorite. The gardens are gorgeous and remind me of the amazing garden artwork in Mercer Mayer books (Mrs. Beggs and The Wizard in particular). The proprietor, John, was very attentive and made a delicious breakfast the next day. I had a very cool room with a nautical theme which had a crow's nest in it. I could have stayed here for a week as the bed and room were very comfortable. I hope to go back and take my wife sometime.

Loved it here. Super friendly staff. Good breakfast. Decor of the main house was very nice. Perfect location. Stayed in room #1 which is on the first floor. It has a private entrance which leads directly to the tow path. Room also has lots of books pertinent to the area. The floors creek so you hear the people in the room above you....every time they come up the stairs, every time they go to the bathroom. It didn't bother us too much because the people above us were late sleepers. There are televisions in the main house, but they never had them wired up. Ours was hidden in a dusty space behind a picture frame with hinges. My only suggestion is that the cleaning person do a better job dusting. The books and business card holder were covered in dust. Mostly everything is within walking distance, including the train and the Triumph Brewery. We're definitely coming back, but next time will stay on the 2nd floor or in one of the Private Quarters.

I have been staying here for close to 9 years. I absolutely positively love it. I have stayed in many B&Bs but this is by far my favorite. Beautiful decor, friendly staff and excellent breakfast make this the perfect getaway. Not a mediocre room in the place. I would never consider staying elsewhere in New Hope. Love it!

My husband and I just spent a lovely three days at Porches on the Towpath! It is the essense of peace and quiet. Not to mention extraordinarily quaint and beautifully decorated inside and out. We had such a wonderful stay in room #5. Upon arrival we were greeted and given a tour leading up to our bedroom. Our room was immaculate and smelled like fresh laundry everyday. In the morning we could sense a faint smell of homemade breakfast and fresh coffee, just enough to make you feel at home. We were able to walk the towpath along the canal right from the porch. We didn't want to leave! Loved every minute of this special place and we will definitely go back soon! Thank you to the staff of Porches!!

Another fantastic stay at Porches on the Towpath!! We have been coming for many years now and John is always a fantastic host. He is full of suggestions about the area but not obtrusive or in your space unless you want him to be. His new assistant, Bob, is a wonderful addition to the staff. You can park your car and walk everywhere which is a real advantage. Also bring your bikes if you have them and bike along the towpath. Beautiful!! This was a girls trip but can't wait to return in November with my husband!

This was my husband an my first bed and breakfast. We loved the entire trip. The breakfasts were amazing. The owner was so kind and helpful. I would def. go back to Porches on the Towpath again. It is within walking distance of everything. This was such a great experience.

We just enjoyed a thoroughly relaxing 3 days at Porches on the Towpath in New Hope, PA. We drove up from D.C. to take a long bike ride along the Delaware towpath and enjoy beautiful Princeton, NJ together. John was a most gracious host. He was full of the perfect recommendations for restaurants and entertainment in the area. The home was built in 1815 and the antique beauty of the house was remarkable from the wide aged floorboards to the tiled kitchen. It sits back from the bustle of main street so is as peaceful as it is accessible and backs up to the canal towpath. Little Jack Russell "Mimi" was a mini hostess and such a sweety! Breakfast is outside on the lovely porches surrounded by verdant gardens. We might suggest a vegetarian option for breakfast. There is so much to do in this area, from revolutionary history (Washington Crossing the Delaware) to art museums (Brandywine River Art Museum and Andrew Wyeth paintings), shopping, outdoor activity and theater at the Buck's County Playhouse. We highly recommend this lovely B&B!!

My wife and I stayed there this last Friday and Saturday. We stayed in room 12 which was very large with a king bed and a separate bathtub and shower. First of all what a great location. Right off main street and 1 block from the bridge into Lambertsville. Carol the manager greeted us and showed us to our room. She was very helpful in recommending restaurants and giving us directions. The breakfast that were served were very good. We had waffles and bacon one morning. They served an egg souffle dish the next morning which we did not have. It was a very romantic and wondeful experience we had at Porches. Will definetly stayed there next time. We would recommend this to everyone. What a great B&B.

We stayed at Porches on the Towpath for an overnight stay with my brother-in-law and sister-in-law as a gift for their 30th wedding anniversary and we had won an overnight stay at a fundraiser we had attended earlier in the year. We stayed in the gatehouse in rooms 11 and 12 and Wow, what beautiful rooms!! The stay was awesome, but definitely too short! We are local to New Hope and go their a lot, but staying overnight at Porches just made it that much better! Our host John was terrific and couldn't be more accommodating. The breakfast on the porch was delicious and his humor made our morning! If you are looking to stay in the area of New Hope or Lambertville, this is where you want to stay! The way it is tucked back away along the canal is so private and the grounds and buildings are amazing, especially the porch! We will definitely be planning more getaways there! Awesome!!

So... Porches. B&B's are kinda a strange animal. In theory, I think they're great: small businesses, run by the people who care the most, who live in the area that they serve, who provide a fleeting sense of community to travelers, helping to forge a little connection between people who come from all over to this one place. But... I don't stay in them very often, because - well - most of the time I don't really want to interact with strangers in the morning, and all of the time I don't want to listen to those self same strangers throughout the night. But I did just stay at Porches, with my wife, for three nights (for a friend's wedding). This was the venue where a number of wedding guests stayed (I think there was about a dozen of us at the B&B, we occupied every room but one while we were there) and we really did have a good time with each other and at the place itself. There were some areas that I think could be improved upon, though... the breakfasts were a little meh - the bacon was overcooked - and the beds themselves were kinda uncomfortable for some of our group. My wife and I stayed in a room with a full bed, which was a little small, but we knew that that would be the case when we booked the room (and we could have chosen something different, we just didn't). The rooms themselves were kind of oddly laid out - there wasn't much room in ours to put our clothing and whatnot - but in my (limited) experience that is kinda par for the course with B&Bs. So why, then, four stars? Well, the staff was really great throughout the whole stay and I'm sure - SURE - that we weren't the quietest group ever. When we arrived, my wife said (to the B&B-keeper) "We're with the wedding group and we'll try to be as quiet and good as we can," to which came the response "I'm sure you won't be quiet, but it's really very sweet of you to say that you'll try," framed in a very nice and knowing tone. Throughout our stay the B&B-keeper made sure that we were having a good time, put herself at our disposal and made good recommendations, and was generally a friendly presence throughout - her offer of an iron and ironing board were a real lifesaver for me. The other thing that really made this place worthwhile was the namesake - the porches. The main house has an upper and a lower wraparound porch, both with garden and canal views, comfortable chairs, and plenty of coffee tables, magazines, and ashtrays. We spent a lot of time on those porches, having a great time with each other, drinking beer and wine and smoking as well. And never once were we reproached or asked to keep it down (again, since we took over the place, the latter would have been a little weird) and seeing as we stayed up kinda late and didn't always clean up after ourselves real well, I though this was a nice surprise. The grounds and the location are also really nice. I'm a gardener and I loved the work they had done in that vein, and being right next to the canal and watching the mallards was a lot of fun. The ding-ding-ding of the nearby New Hope train was a little trying at times, but I didn't actually hear it when I was inside, so it didn't impact the experience all that much. So, all in all, a nice place to stay; good people, a great location, an interesting house, fantastic... porches. I'd say just ask for a big bed and don't count on the breakfast to be all-dat and go from there.
