This place brings Italy home to America for us! Fresh pastas, amazing deli counter and helpful staff.

We try to stop by and grab a sandwich when we're in the area. The rolls are excellent. I would have given them four stars if the sandwich had just a little more meat. It's a little pricy, not crazy, for what you get.

They make a great sandwich, and offer quality Italian specialties. They are a little pricy but they are the only game in town, or within 50 miles, so it's worth paying for. What's not worth paying for is their yuppy attitude. They cater to the New York type who frequent the surrounding area. If you are a regular spending big $$$ they are friendly. On the other hand if you are normal customer your treatment may vary from cool to obnoxious. In the 10 years I've shopped there I've never been thanked after paying for my order. If they make a mistake they never apologize. The check out counter is cramped and very small, when they are busy it's confusing to say the least.

Had a prusciutto / pepper / mozzarella cheese and added pesto. Probably one of the best sandwiches I've had in a very long time!

My wife and I love this place for so many reasons. Their meat rack is amazing with homemade sausages and delicious other bbq items. The steaks are expensive but their is NOTHING like them when you cook them properly at home. The antipasto rack is amazing too, the olives, cheese and peppers are can't misses. Their is so much to say be sure to stop in and see why everyone loves them. Ask for a bomba you won't regret it.

Very good authentic Italian deli. Not a huge selection but definitely quality products. I just stopped In for lunch and I got an Italian hoagie and it was delicious! Excellent bread. Cost $9 but could be split by two people easily.

This place makes me happy to be alive. In the middle of nowhere, on route 209 in the Poconos, we came upon this gem. Lots of meats, hams, prosciuttos, sauces, and fresh mozzarella cheese - which was perfectly salted and amazing! The fresh marinara sauce was good too, lots of garlic.

This is a great authentic little Italy Italian deli located in Milford PA that offers amazing Italian specialty foods, plus they make fantastic hearty sandwiches. I always get their Prosciutto, roasted red peppers with fresh homemade mozzarella cheese on a hero with extra red wine vinegar!!! They have a full glass case with a large variety of antipastos. They also have store prepared and packaged Italian cooked foods, from soups, pastas, sauces, and desserts to take home. Of course they also offer non-cooked food items dried pastas frozen raviolis etc. They also have a good selection of imported cheese, olive oil and vinegar. They have a really nice meat section. I have only had their steaks and fresh sausages from here. What I really enjoy about coming here is that it's a really cool little store which has everything I need when I have family gatherings or small parties. This is definitely a place to try.

I'm a true New Yorker at heart, so finding a place like this is heaven. I bought a home about 15 minutes away from Milford. So this is perfect. It has everything I need when I spend my weekends in PA. It's a great location, everything is fresh and the service is always great!

My family and I stopped in to Fretta's to get sandwiches after hiking at Cliff Park. The food looked delicious, and we were excited to eat when we got home. However, when we unwrapped the three sandwiches we discovered that only one was as we had ordered it. I am vegetarian and ordered the fried eggplant. Instead I got a turkey hero. My wife's chicken sandwich had tomatoes, lettuce, and cheddar; she had ordered mozzarella and peppers. It is now too late to go back as we are hungry. In fact, based on my experience, I do not plan to ever go back to Fretta's.

Great authentic Italian place to grab a sandwich before a hike. Eggplant Hero - thin perfectly cooked slices of breaded and fried eggplant. Not too heavy, not greasy at all. Fresh mozzarella was creamy and well balanced. Roasted red peppers were fresh, not overly vinegared. Bread was fresh and tasty. (Ask them to heat the sandwich it's much better that way) Tomato Sauce - ordered a small tub to dip the sandwich in. WIN! Excellent sauce. Mixed Olives - enjoyed the selection of various olives to accompany my sandwich. Sfogliatelle - light, crispy and chewy all at same time. Filling was a bit heavy for my taste but I enjoyed it none the less. Orange rind flavor over powered the ricotta. (I remember the filling in Italy to be airy in Italy) Service can be a little gruff, but the place gets busy fast and I believe they are from NYC, so don't judge them for it. Quality foods in a well run and clean establishment. That's what matters!

If you like microwaved semi heated heroes then this is where to go. Deli worker charged higher than menu stated. Fresh cook at home sausages are tasty.

Skip the trip to Little Italy ... it's all right here! Top quality products, not outrageously priced and friendly staff. For dessert, try the amaretto tiramisu.
(4)Dmitriy S.
This place is great. Almost like they surgically removed my old neighborhood butcher shop from Brooklyn and placed it in the middle of PA. Great cold cuts, meats, bread, ravioli, and everything else you'd expect from a legit Italian food shop. The best thing about this place is that the counter staff are just as rude/loud as the guys from Brooklyn, giving the people of this quaint and quiet little town a proverbial kick in the ass!

If you're even remotely interested in either cooking or consuming Italian food, Fretta's is a one-stop goldmine. It's also the only place I've found in this area which sells Italian "00" flour (for pizza dough) at a reasonable price. If you aren't on a very specific shopping trip as I was, they do everything - meat, cheese, pasta, coffee, assorted imported stuff like chocolate and preserves, seasoning, desserts, etc, etc - they have pretty much any ingredient you'd need, and the stuff they make themselves is sublime. Highly recommended.

Quintessential Italian deli. The food is wonderful and they don't skimp on the sandwiches. Most of the time I take meat off them because they are too hearty. Absolutely love it and the owners are fantastic.
(5)Cena B.
LOVE Frettas! If you're missing the upscale appeal of a NY Deli - stop by! I love them, their food is yummy, consistent and the prepared stuff will make a special meal even better!
(5)Courtney S.
They have the best sub around!! Friendly staff, great small shop packed with everything you could ask for from little Italy.
(5)Ed W.
Best deli in tri-state area. Great service. Everybody is friendly and food is amazing.
(5)Tony B.
Great little place!!! Just moved to the area from Long Island and love this place.
(4)Steph K.
Amazing food!!! My husband and I both got the Italian hoagie sandwhich and they were incredible! The meats and cheese were fresh, the roll was perfect and all around it was a perfect sandwhich. My mom has gotten antipasta and meat and cheese platters from there for Christmas Eve dinner and they are always delicious. Fretta's is a wonderful gem in Milford!

This is it. Great food. The hot dry sausage was great. The owner is a transplant from Little Italy(ny). Go here if you are in the area.
(5)Chris T.
Fretta's is awesome. Their food is always fresh and the variety is great. It is so nice to have an Italian shop in town. I use them for holiday meals as well.
(5)Kathy M.
Can't beat Fretta's for lunch, meats, mozz, take-away/take-home!
(4)Matt P.
From the outside, Fretta's may appear to be just another deli. With Jurgenson's across the street, one might even shrug it off completely; big mistake! This is a great little italian deli, you've got your standard fare like cold cuts, salads, sandwiches-- now add cured meats, imported cheeses, and a myriad of artisanal products. Not to mention all of the dessert options! This is an essential stop for [hungry] folks passing through Milford.

This place is hot! Great salamis hanging. Fresh meats and sausages chilling. Cold cuts as needed. Pastas aplenty. Olives allover. It's a hot little store! They sell sandwiches (Italian, parm, eggplant, etc.) That's hot! So I go with the fried chicken cutlet with mozz & roasted peppers on a hero. Now that's hot! ...Not!!! The cutlet was cold. So my fried chicken cutlet with unmelted cheese was cold. I have to admit that in spite of this, it wasn't so bad. It just wasn't anywhere near as good as it could have been or as good as I expected it to be at this nice little store. I guess I should have asked, rather than assuming just because it made sense to me. The sandwich strangely had the slicing mozzarella, rather than the fresh mozz that is proudly displayed in the store. Again maybe I should have asked. However, this is the kind of place you would expect to do things the right way...based on the appearance of the retail portion. Even if they chose convenience, they might have simply let me know that a typical warm sandwich would be served cold . I'm not certain if they would have warmed it if I asked...I'd like to think so, because they seemed fairly warm. As I sat outside at their tables, I didn't consider returning to ask if they'd warm it up. At this point it would have been 2 minutes or so in a microwave...I don't think my hero roll would have appreciated that treatment. My lunch companions had a pizza, which was heated upon request, and a good looking Italian salad (artichokes, olives, bocconcini, etc.). The consensus was a "heavy dose of garlic." Despite warming, the pizza was still cold but "ok." My friend could not eat the salad due to the garlic overdose. All of the above is offered as a heads up and for your planning. So ask for heat if you want it & prep for garlic ...so YOU don't end up hot. And whatever, be sure to buy the retail stuff...because it's cool. A 4 to the store & 2 to the food equals a 3.

Thank you Yelp! Fantastic paninis! I had the Grilled Chicken Breast with Provolone Cheese and Sautéed Spinach panini. They were out of spinach, but substituted broccoli rabe instead, and it was delicious! My girlfriend got the Fresh Mozzarella with Artichoke Hearts and Sun Dried Tomatoes panini, which tasted like a pizza and was also amazing. They were both a little on the greasy side, but not too bad. We also tried the Eggplant Parmigiana on a roll. There was maybe a tad too much breading for my tastes, but the eggplant was VERY thinly sliced (a good thing!), and tasted great overall. Staff was very friendly, and we managed to get in before a pretty big rush. Highly recommend Fretta's for lunch if you're ever in the area.

Delicious food, great service, and amazing Italian food for those who crave authenticity!

What does it mean when you find better gourmet food in Milford, PA than you would in midtown Manhattan? It means this place is damn good. Tons of imports-- everything from cookies to pasta sauces to sorbet (and of course tons of meat). Not just standard imports, either-- there's lots of stuff here I've never seen anywhere else. Definitely worth a stop when you're in the area! Wish they had better hours... other than that, yum!

I really liked that this place opened up in Milford... I just wish it opened sooner. It opened right when I was moving out of town. I have family that still shoppes here regularly though and when I go back to visit I stop in and grab some stuff. If you are a fan of real Italian deli meats like Prosciutto di Parma this is your place to go.
(4)Barbara D.
What can you say, when they are the only Italian Deli around here. Their stuff is great. They make their own sausages, and dry salamis which are really delicious. From what I learned, they were originally in downtown NYC for some 40 years. Hence the experience. Quite Pricey. Barbara D

Amazing! Excellent! Smells GREAT! The appetizers are out of this world, their meat is over the top Delicious and if you really want a treat get the pork bread! Nothing taste better and it's only $2.75 for a nice round loaf. Everyone loves this place because they never change what works, which is service, knowledge and excellent food.
(5)Christopher G.
What a great little Italian deli! But not just great sandwiches but salads, Italian cookies, olives, pastas, and a large selection of frozen cooked and uncooked Italian foods. If you find yourself in Milford, go here for lunch or dinner.
(5)Jonathan M.
First, you are in Milford, PA, there aint a lot of choices. Second, this place is excellent. We came in around closing time and they did not blink an eye. Everything we got (about 5-6 items) was excellent and was devoured quickly.

Still my favorite salumeria, even though we live 300 miles south. Dropped in this morning on my way home from Connecticut and picked up a hot capicola, sweet capicola, full roll of pancetta, and a couple of fresh mozzarella. Fretta's never disappoints. Got home tonight and made capicola/mozzarella panini for dinner, and it was just like being back in the City. Hopefully, there'll be a Fretta's satellite store opening here in NoVA one day. Anyone who's passing anywhere close to this area who truly appreciates a proper Italian specialty shop *needs* to visit Fretta's. Unlike that oversized amusement park somewhere in Florida, Fretta's truly is The Happiest Place On Earth. Can't wait to get back.

Wondering where Fretta's of Greenwich Village went to? HERE! Milford, PA. Now we're lucky enough to have it and you can't have it back. I don't know what I like most. The freshly made sfogliodelle, the so-fresh-it-weeps-milk-tears mozzarella, the homemade cannoli, the olives, the assorted other antipasti, the freshly made, peppery soppresatta, the incredible cappicolla, the forty-five olive oils to choose from, the frozen lasagnes in the takehome case that they made that morning, or the fantastic cheese, cookies, desserts, pastas...are you with me? My brother in law brought home some shell steaks to grill from Fretta's that were so amazing, so succulent, so devastatingly good that they have become the stuff of legend in my family. Fretta's is heaven.
(5)Dana Q.
My family and I always stop here when visiting family in the area. The "ambiance" is great...You walk in and see dried sausages hanging above a case of even more meat, stacks of delicious italian cookies, a case of fresh cheeses, homemade pastas and sauces, all kinds of great stuff. We always stock up on the the sweet soppressata and lemon drop cookies, but everything we've tried here has been great. On my last trip I added some fresh ricotta cheese to my order...delicious. Oh, and they will ship stuff to you if you're unfortunate like my family and live 3 hours away and can't wait for the next Holiday to roll around to get your fix!

An authentic salumeria down to the hanging meat in the window and the adorable Italian grandfather wearing his butcher's whites in the kitchen. Just the smell of this place makes me hungry. A full range of sausages, steaks and coldcuts. A fantastic cheese case. A nice selection of heat-and-eat foods. Some fresh pastries and a freezer of gourmet raviolis. Word to the wise: when in Milford, bring a cooler. You'll need one when you visit Fretta's.
