Let's start by saying this is hands down the nicest bar/restaurant in Meyersdale. There is nothing that even comes close to this bar when it comes to beer selection or the decor of the bar. The overall prices of the beer are higher than what you'd pay at other bars, but you get your choice of Ales, Lagers and Stouts. Along with the great choice of beer you're also getting a much higher standard of clients/patrons. The Morgue and Tool Co. offers live music most weekend evenings and the overall crowd is a jolly group. Where the Morgue and Tool Co really falls flat is on kitchen service. The waiters and waitresses are extremely friendly and offer a solid service, but the kitchen is a complete and udder disaster. If there are more than 20 people in the restaurant you best have some serious time on your hands. The cook doesn't seem to examine the food before sending it out, and the waiter/waitresses don't either.

One recent cold, rainy afternoon, we were trying to bike the GAP trail to Cumberland MD but couldn't get any farther than Meyersdale, and in dire need of a place to spend the night, we stopped in at Morguen Toole. What a pleasant surprise! It's a funky, unique, somewhat creepy place that's oozing with personality and atmosphere. The staff were very friendly and welcoming and the price was very reasonable. The building itself, which formerly housed a hardware store and mortuary, has been renovated with creativity and a real attention to detail, retaining the antique character of the space while avoiding anything too cutesy or generic. The third floor, where we stayed, has long, eerily-lit green-brick hallways and dark, ominous doors, reminding us of the ghoulish past of the place without being too obvious about it. Nicely done. The room itself was simple and old-fashioned but comfortable (no TV! I like it). Wi-Fi access was free and very fast (which was much appreciated as I had to stay up and work online all night). Most of the rooms share a communal bathroom, which could have been an issue for a privacy-lover like me, but we had the whole 3rd floor to ourselves anyway so it was fine. We don't normally eat out but, needing to fuel up for the next day's ride (and having learned that the nearest grocery store was 20 miles away), we were happy to support a cool local business by eating in the hotel's restaurant. It was nice to see that the place was fairly busy. The wait staff were very accommodating to two vegans and service was great. The food (veggie stir-fry, salads) was acceptable but not terribly exciting. So overall, if you happen to be near Meyersdale or are biking the GAP Trail and need to stop for the night, I'd definitely recommend Morguen Toole as a unique, out-of-the-ordinary treat.

Great place to stay on the GAP. Happy hour $2 yuengling, the BEST EVER cake, Jack Daniel's chocolate cake, made by Brooke who is a fabulous host along with everyone else there. The room was big and comfy, very clean, neat place to spend a night or two. We will be back, next time I will call ahead for a whole cake. Need to figure out how to carry it on my bike.

The strawberry pie was AMAZING! The cheesecake was good. The rest of the meal went from great to awful as my hunger subsidies.

Everything I have tried has been delisious. The cream of crab soup is better than that in southern maryland crab house's. Their salad bar is fresh and stock with fresh veggies and salad bar fare. The desserts were mouth watering and the salted Carmel cake could send you into a sugar induced coma. The wings, ribs and buffet has all been great. Never a bad meal here.

Great destination after riding the rail Great Allegheny Passage Rail Trail. Huge venue -- their website indicates 25k square feet. This includes a restaurant, bar, live band (check their website for dates/bands/times), and hotel/hostel type accommodations (some with and some without their own bathroom). We opted for dinner at 6:30pm with a live band on a Saturday night starting at 8pm. This particular night the band was "The House Band" and yes, that is the actual name of the band. They were quite good, playing rock and roll. The food was ok, could have been better. I ordered mac n cheese (without crab dip -- that just didn't sound right to me) with a side of broccoli and a salad from the salad bar. We played games in a common room with plenty of tables (same room/kitchen that continental breakfast is served). There is a side room with a sofa and big TV, as well. Accommodations can be selected from a variety of options (again, check out their website). Some in our party chose the bunk bed rooms with common bathroom down the hall for 30.00 a bed. We chose a private room with a queen bed but no sink or bathroom in the room for 65.00 for the two of us; we, too used the common bathroom down the hall. Note that there are rooms with bathrooms in the room for an extra charge. Linens, towels and wash clothes are provided, as are soap and shampoo. In the morning, continental breakfast was provided -- english muffins, jelly, yogurt, cereal, coffee, milk, and juice, with fruit options also. To be noted: There are only 2 common bathrooms. Each includes a shower, toilet, and sink. This is important to note because if someone is taking a shower, you will be out of luck using the bathroom until they are finished. For the number of rooms they seem to have, 2 bathrooms is not quite adequate but we were able to make do for our trip. They also have a garage to store your bicycles. I do suggest you bring a lock as guests can come and go in this garage and it is accessible from the street. Last but not least, worth noting that this building used to be a mortuary and they even have a paranormal experience package as part of their schtick. Overall, I think it's a great experience, especially since your meal, entertainment, and lodging is all under one roof. I'll settle for mediocre food to get the overall great experience.

Eh. Food was pretty decent. Live music (Jive Hicks) was pretty good. Service was not so great. Missing appetizer, sides, etc.

Stopped here to eat on the Western MD rail trail. It used to be a morgue, as well as a tool company...hence the name. I thought it was a really neat place with great food! The atmosphere is neat too.

Stopped here while staying in Meyersdale along the GAP. Nicely done renovation of an old Morgue and Tool company that obviously took a lot of time and effort. There are several displays on the lower level that provide testament to that. However, Meyersdale is a tiny town with very little commercial activity and I honestly don't know how this place even survives. The night we dined, most appeared to be locals there for the $8 all you can eat taco night, which looked exactly like it sounds, mass produced taco fixins of the standard variety, nothing exciting or authentic and only ground beef filling. No fajitas, mole, etc. We opted for the deviled crab dip as an app which was plentiful with crab and served with nice toasted pita wedges. However, the richness of the sauce quickly waned on me and the law of diminishing returns kicked it so that by the time I received my chicken topped with the same crab dip, I wanted nothing more to do with it. Just very rich and best taken in moderation. Chicken breast and roll were average, nothing exceptional. Draft beer selection was fairly adequate, but no bartender on staff and an empty bar at 6PM on a summer weeknight. Kind of depressing...just like the town. I really hope this place survives and thrives, and service was really quite good. I think the food could be better. Five sandwiches, a few premium drafts and soft drinks, plus crab dip appetizer came to $110 with tip. Might explain the popular embrace of taco night by the locals.

I stayed there on Sunday June 29th after my son and I rode in 85 miles from the gap. It was our second visit as I stayed in 2013. I was impressed in 2013 as we came late they kept the bar open a little longer so we could eat after a long journey. This year I had just went to bed, listened to fireworks and they stopped. About 20 minutes later I looked up and saw bright light of flames in my window. I realized the place next door was on fire. We grabbed our cell phones and evacuated. As we did this the employees were evacuating people. After about 20 minute outside, 3 fire trucks putting out a huge blaze next door the owners and management made accommodations for us at another location. The walked us over. In the morning they called us to get our belongings once it was safe to come back. Stuff happens, I was impressed at how thorough the manager was and how quick they helped people. Employees stayed over and they did a great job. Nice place, great history and a place I will come back to. I'm glad the historic building was not damaged. You really see what an establishment is made of when faced with a crisis. They did outstanding.

Six of us went to dine at Morguen Toole this evening. The rustic atmosphere is great, very nice job of getting the place back to an usable condition. Live music was good, so our dining experience lasted a good while. We started out with salsa and chips, and crab dip with pretzel wedges. Both appetizers were very good. For the main course, we had a variety of entrees, steak, haddock, and stuffed haddock. All of the entrees were also very good. For dessert, we each had a small portion of triple berry pie and crème brulee. Very tasty. Service was just fine. Definitely will keep this establishment in mind when visiting this area in the future.

Oh my! Reviewing Morguen Toole is difficult because I've never been to a similar place! I stayed one night (late May, 2014) in the Hoover Suite -- all I can say is "wow"! I was truly (pleasantly) surprised when the nice hotel manager escorted us to our "room" and opened the door. The Hoover Suite is easily the size of many two bedroom apartments. In fact, it reminded me of a loft apartment in NYC - high ceilings, exposed brick throughout, old wooden flooring, large factory-style windows, and an overall "presence" that's quite impressive. The suite consisted of one largish bedroom, one HUGE bedroom (which curiously did not have a door), perhaps the largest bathroom I've ever seen (complete with a massage table), a living room area (complete with three couches and a 50" TV), a dining room area (complete with a full sized dining table), and a fairly modest, but fairly equipped kitchen area (largish refrigerator, sink, microwave, and a fondue pot!). To top it all off the bed was comfortable! Now for a big disclaimer....Morguen Toole has a variety of room types -- from the larger than large Hoorver Suite (where I stayed) to hostel-style bedrooms with a communal bathroom. I can't comment on the other room styles. I also went to Morguen Toole's bar -- again, I was pleasantly surprised. They have a decent beer selection (probably the best of any small town in the area), all the usual options for booze, and even a few decent wines. Their bar sits maybe a dozen (I didn't count), but they also have two large rooms with tables (one room even has a pool table and a air hockey table).

I and five others, family and friends, stopped at Morguen Toole two weeks ago during a viist to Meyersdale for the annual syrup festival. Jeremy, the owner, was amazingly welcoming. He took us on a tour of the entire building, which is stunning. The attention to detail (pattern of the wood floor, for example) is remarkable. Jeremy told us all about the history of the building and the work he did to renovate it. My sister is getting married in September and said that if she'd seen Morguen Toole earlier she would've had the wedding there! I encourage anyone in the area to stop in for a drink, a meal, or for the night.

This place is done up right, and I'm not just saying that because it's the only thing around , even though it is. I spent the night there after riding up from Cumberland on the GAP. Everything was awesome except the food. The place deserves to have better food. The beer list is great

We had a great experience here. Big tip: go upstairs and sit at the bar. Order the "mystery beer" for a dollar. It was excellent. Do the salad bar. Heavy on mayo but lots of good healthy ingredients. We loved the staff. Our bartender was wonderful. This place really doesn't fit any category. Just a special place.

The standard!! Brooke (manager) bends over backwards, jack of all trades, master of some. User friendly!!. Owners & management (get it)! They want cutting edge hotel/ restaurant/ hostel for all comers, ski, bike, hike or average joe....they win!!! Food, Entertainment, Camaraderie, they "get it"... I do not work for these people, but I would encourage you to support them in thier endeavour. They are the future!
