I have been to La Porta many times, and have always loved it. Today I went for lunch with my Aunt. We each ordered a pizza, which was meant to be sized for one person at lunchtime. The server brought us out 2 large pizzas, and told us the kitchen thought we had ordered for take-away, for which the pizzas are bigger. I asked if we would be charged more, and she assured us that would not be the case. The large take-out pizzas are 2 for $20. Little did we know that the same pizzas would be almost double for dine-in. when we received our check, I asked about the pizza charge. The server rudely told us that we were charged the price on the menu. The two for $20 is just a take out price. So basically the dine-in lunch time pizza is smaller and more expensive than the larger sized version of the same pizza if you take away. How does this make sense??? I do not see the logic. could it be that they don't want to take up seating for pizza orders, so they are promoting take away??? total rip off for mediocre, dried up pizza.

Went for happy hour , we all know the bar makes All the money but why is it incumbent upon The Patron to mention happy hour drink specials that are posted On the website for the La Porta bar and restaurant Seems like a reoccurring theme to shame you Into asking for specials ? Take it off your website if its not offered By staff

Stopped by for lunch after a long walk in Ridley Creek Park based on Yelp reviews. It's a most attractive place. You would think that you were in Europe. The service was good, not rushed. Be sure to have the zuppa, a delicious cream of mushroom soup made with many varieties of local mushrooms. Everything was fabulous even the bacon wrapped chicken livers my father had. I kept it simple with a burger and fries. Yum! We'll stop by again when we are in the area

Being from Milano, Italy, I am very familiar with Italian cuisine. In the Wilmington, Delaware to Philadelphia area, this is my favorite Italian restaurant. I have been there about five times, and I have always left there both satisfied and surprised at how authentic, fresh and delicious the food was. During summer months, be sure to get the Insalata Caprese ... prepared with imported mozzarella di bufala. The brick oven pizza is astoundingly good! I always look forward to returning to La Porta.

Out of towners taken by local who swore it was great. It was great. Fun place with great cooking. Yes on the Tucson Fries, Portabella Mushroom w/ fried egg, artichoke with lump crab plates. Gnocchi in tomato was nice. They even accommodated our off the menu request for a side of broccoli rabe. I really liked my salmon salad, as the salmon was cooked perfectly. Service was just great as we ate at the bar. Will be back for certain. Near a great golf course, Glen Mills. Perfect 19th hole spot

Delicious. A definite thumbs up for this small, cozy Italian place. Our server was fantastic. She was friendly, nice and attentive. We started with the Cozze - P.E.I mussels in a white sauce. They were juicy and very tasty. A little on the spicy side but a perfect way to start your meal. Scott had the flounder special which was flounder stuffed with crab and ricotta served with potatoes and asparagus. A heavenly spring dish that was just perfect. I had another special which was the herbed gnocci with capers, tomatoes, garlic and tuna. It was quite delicious. I really want to go back and try additional items on the menu - it was that good! Oh, and they have a nice wine list too.
Fantastic service - our waitress Tracey was awesome. She had a great attitude, made good suggestions, and everything went smoothly - even with 9 People in our party. Food was great - gotta try the Tuscan Fries, any of their Pizzas, and the Lasagna (Yum; already hungry). We're looking to go back there soon - since it's a local place, with good atmosphere, and will definitely request Tracey.

Amazing! Can't wait to go back. The pizza is really the best thing on the menu, every type I've tried has been amazing. Live music is a wonderful addition too. Only con is I wish the bar area was bigger.

We decided last minute on an August Saturday night to try La Porta. Since they do not take reservations, we knew it would be a gamble. We arrived at shortly after 8 pm, and were told 30-40 minute wait. No problem, we went to the bar. Just so you are aware, the self parking situation is challenging, I went with the valet. Also, this restaurant is very small, as is the bar area. We were lucky enough to score seats at the bar in less than five minutes, otherwise it would've been an uncomfortable wait in the walkways. Overall, our wait for a table ended up being probably fifteen or twenty minutes, tops. Our server was named Teresa, and she was a true delight. My date and I shared the Tuscan fries as our appetizer, which was unusual and delicious. I had the Fra Diavlo, which was tasty, and my date quite enjoyed the ribs with corn on the cob special. Thanks to MainLine Today for bringing this place to our attention!

I wasn't sure what to expect after reading other reviews, but with living less than a mile away, we decided to give it a try. Even on a Tuesday night, it was pretty busy however, we were accommodated by valet parking and were seated quickly. I found the dining atmosphere ok...nice but more casual and family friendly than I expected. From the start, service was excellent. As for the meal, bread is served at the table which is a nice touch. I am unable to eat dairy or gluten which I stated first thing to the waitress. It would have been nice to be served some olives in place of the bread. We started with the mussels which were very good and the best part of the meal. For dinner, I had the steak salad which was tasty with tender lean steak. Recently I tried the salmon which was perfectly cooked and seasoned. I went back recently to the bar on a Friday night at 9:30 pm. Service was quick and there was a good wine selection. The bar, although small, was comfortable and not too loud. It had a nice, friendly crowd and I ever met some of my neighbors. I am glad we gave this place a second try. I will be back for sure.

I visited with a fairly large party on a Wednesday night. They were very accommodating though appeared to be very busy. If there weren't so many flies I might have enjoyed my time there a bit better. I was shooing them away the whole time there and getting pretty grossed out. The food: The fried mozzarella was very good. A bit greasy with a little sweet glaze on it. The mussels had a sweet lemon sauce which was OK but we were joking that they were cooked in "lemon head" sauce. The salad was delicious and highly recommended. Entrees: What it is with the fried egg? There was a fried egg on a pizza AND on top of the lasagna! I know it is chi-chi to serve a fried egg in weird places, but this was ridiculous. We had a bunch of fried eggs sitting on our bread plates. The crab mannicotti was weird and left unfinished and not because people were stuffed. The lasagna was pretty good, a little watery for my taste. The special pizza was just OK - not that yummy. We brought our own cupcakes so I cannot attest to the deserts. I don't think any of us will return.

I've dined at other Peter McAndrew's establishments Modo Mio and Paesano's. Both were great so I expected good things with La Porta. I'll start by saying the beer selection is decent. About 7-8 beers on tap and several more in bottle. I had the Goose Island IPA. Bar prices are roughly inline with the area. Expect to pay $5 for a draft and $9 for wine. We had some olive tapenade brushetta as an appetizer. Not bad, but not memorable. $8 or so for two crustini and tapenade is too expensive. Throw in another one and it would be worthwhile. For dinner I had the Napolitano pizza. Anchovies (yum!), hot peppers, capers, plum tomato, mozz and olives. The pizza came out fresh and hot. It was very tasty, cooked just right. It was a bit salty but anchovies and capers are that way. I tried a slice of my mom's margherita pizza and it was textbook. Delicious. Be prepared to wait for a table if you arrive on a weekend night as they don't take reservations. Service at the bar is attentive as was the table service. Parking is as bad as the Locust Crest was. There are about 12 spots with not a lot of room to turn around. I'm glad I have a small car. If you drive an SUV, I wish you luck. The website needs updating badly. There is no dinner menu online. The only one is the takeout menu with doesn't include entrees or appetizers. We'll be back again.

It hit me one night, out of the blue. I NEED GNOCCHI AND I GNEED GNOCCHI GNOW. So, after a brief round of Yelp consultation, I headed to the nearest place that had gnocchi mentioned in its reviews. La Porta is very cute inside--definitely a rustic feel with, you guessed it, doors all around. I started with a Riesling, which was absolutely scrumptious. They provided bread, which was good enough, since I was starving. (Some other customer jerkily complained about it to the server after their meal was over, which I thought was pretty dumb. It was bread. It was good.) I ordered the gnocche (duh), and my companion got the Margherita pizza. My gnocche was good, if a tiny bit too salty. I just wish it had come with something else. I mean, I love my gnocche, but a whole plate of it was somehow anticlimactic. His pizza was good, but nothing to write home about. What marred the experience was that our waiter pretty much ignored us most of the time and then didn't even say goodbye, good night, etc. at the end of the night. He and the other waiter started moving the tables around as if to remind everyone that they were closing (in another half hour or so.) So, maybe I'll try it again another time, but maybe there are other places to get my gnocche fix...uh, fixed.

Great brick oven pizza. Good service. Nice atmosphere, very cozy and warming. Use of natural elements and materials. A tad overpriced. One of the best Delaware County areas for a brick over pizza joint.

What a disappointment! My neighbors and I had been wanting to try La Porta for months. We finally met there for dinner on Sunday night and enjoyed a very nice dinner. Limited menu, but the food was good. Although, this was not an inexpensive night out. Initially, we thought this was a place to return to.... The problem is that within 7 hours of dining, we ALL got sick. Really sick. The only thing we shared was the calamari appetizer. I called the restaurant the next day and was questioned by the woman who answered the phone about the timing of our illness (kindof insinuating that it might not have been the food) and promised a call back within the hour. That call never came. Minimally, I was concerned that they pull the food so no one else got sick. Maximally, I expected a call about the situation. Had that call come, I would not be writing this review. We had the potential of becoming regular customers, but not only will we not return, I will make sure to let everyone know to avoid.

Absolutely delicious. Couldn't think of a bad thing to say! We went on a Friday night WITHOUT reservations and still didn't have to wait that long. They were super nice from the beginning. Our server, Matt, was friendly and attentive without being overbearing. The calamari was great, and I went with one of the specials for my entree - a striped bass. Fabulous! Definitely affordable, quality Italian food. Will definitely return!

Best pizza in the area! Crust is real thin but that's that way I like pizza... If you're looking for something heavy and thick you will be rather disappointed. The margherita and the funghi were our favorites but everything we've had here has been great. The pizza is thin and light enough that you can order a few pies and enjoy a little of everything.

This is an excellent restaurant with great pizza, phenomenal salads, delicious entrees and a strong bar/wine collection. I am pretty tight with my 5 star reviews and I'm not quite ready to give one to La Porta - but like the other great Media option, La Belle Epoque - this is pretty much a sure-fire choice if you want an excellent meal at a reasonable price. The atmosphere is warm and homey - another real positive. One downside: service is up and down, though of late, mostly up.

Finally! Delaware County. Perhaps NOW we can make it into the snobby Best of Philadelphia. Try to make this brief. Went Sat. around 7 and was moderately crowded which is pretty good for a hot Aug. night. No problem parking this time. Sat at the comfortable bar, chose a Peroni beer, gf had her g&t. $15 was just a little steep for the 2, but good drinks. Friendly, efficient bartender, had the tuscan fries which were CRAZY GOOD, then shared a Pepperoni Pizza (not that kind of pepperoni) which came out a little charred (from the wood oven) which I love, bubbly and hot. Crispy crust, great toppings. Will go back for the gnocchi's. I think the pizza was $12, fries maybe $9? Great place. Can't wait to go back. Highly recommend. Food prices were reasonable IMO.

Had lunch last Saturday during the snowstorm. My friends and I were the second diners there so we scored a cozy table near the fire place. Everyone enjoyed the food (I had the gnocchi and the gravy was spectacular.) Portions were a bit small, even for lunch. I will go back again.

This is not your typical Italian restaurant. Had dinner Saturday night. Service had some problems. Forgivable since they just opened. The menu does not have the usual fare. No chicken/veal dishes. Not even spaghetti & meatballs. We had lasagna and conolli, with house salad and brushetta. The food was incredible!!! 6 stars! Very good price. I plan on returning. If service improves, I'll change 4 stars to 5 stars.

Our first visit to La Porta was on a Sunday afternoon for a late lunch. Our food was excellent. The pizza is fantastic as well as the cannelloni. Yay! I was so excited to have a great restaurant so close to home! Couldn't wait to come back and try other items on the menu. We returned on a Friday night. We did not have a reservation and the tables and bar were full. We anticipated this and planned on having a few drinks at the bar first. The first minor annoyance was being asked twice if we would want to eat at the bar. That is certainly not appealing to me at all. When we were called to be seated we settled our bar bill. The bartender was busy and took a while to ring us up. It would have been nice to just add it to our check. By the time we made it to the hostess she gave our table away. I was annoyed, but miscommunications happen. She gave us a round of drinks on the house and it turned out we only had to wait another 5 minutes. The building is small but beautiful and rustic. It is very loud though. That doesnt bother me much though. We ordered our meals. A runner brings out the food. I don't know what it is, but having a runner is annoying to me. The shrimp special was great. I ordered the Assaggio. It was good. Real prosciutto, not the cheap kind. My husband finished his appetizer and I was halfway through mine when they brought our entrees. To me, that is a MAJOR mistake! The runner offered to take it back. Perhaps I should have let him. I was not able to enjoy the rest of my appetizer because I knew my food was getting cold. I got the fish special and my husband the pork tenderloin special. My fish was dry (and cold of course), and the pork unevenly cooked. One side of the pork was done just right and was moist and tender, the other side was charred and dry. My husband was a chef in a main line Italian restaurant for about 15 years. Perhaps we are picky, but we know a lot about how restaurants are run and it was a busy night. We understand mistakes are made and rarely complain. We didn't make a big deal about the disappointing quality of our meals but brought to our servers attention that we were very unhappy that our entrees were brought out before finishing my appetizer. She apologized and said that they would take coffee and dessert off the bill. That was a nice gesture. Then the final blow. While my coffee was good, my husbands espresso was so-so. I ordered the chocolate torte. I was hoping for a nice ending to the evening with a homemade dessert. The dry cake had an interesting peanut butter filling but was not worth the calories. It was a shame. We were really excited to find a great restaurant so close to home. We heard so many good things about La Porta and reviews looked very promising. Our first experience was great, the second was a total disappointment. We understand that they were busy, but they should be able to pull it together by now. Perhaps we will try again on a weeknight. The pizza is excellent and I will definitely give that another go, but not for a while. I would give La Porta 4 stars for our first visit , and 2 stars for our last visit. So I averaged it out to a score of 3 stars.

In June of 2011, before we discovered Anthony's Coal-Fired Pizza in Wayne as the first top-shelf pie anywhere near West Chester PA and Philly's Main Line, we read about Peter McAndrew's plan to open a bistro/pizzeria in Edgemont, PA in the site of the old Locust Tavern. It's been a long wait, but La Porta is finally open and a large group of us headed there for lunch on a summer Tuesday. The interior of La Porta oozes with rustic charm. There are two small but airy dining rooms that look like a converted farmhouse, and a smallish but chic wine bar. Our friendly waitresses pushed together three table to accommodate our party of eight. The non-pizza menu looked fascinating, but we were on a mission; we ordered eight pizzas (personal size, but bigger than the typical personal pizza) for our crew of eight and a few salads/starters. Frequently, I ask wait staff about menu items and I get responses of varying utility. Here, when I inquired about the "Barolo" pie, I learned it was Barolo cheese, not wine, that was a pizza component. We quickly agreed that this wait staff knew something about the food, and that was a good omen. I had an especially difficult time selecting a pie, the choices were so compelling. Here are a few of them: Margherita * mozzarella, plum tomato, basil $10 Malfatti * "badly made," half pizza-half stromboli, prosciutto, sweet peppers, mozzarella, plum tomato $12 Bismarck * white pizza, gorgonzola, fried egg, roasted mushroom, truffled asparagus $13 Salsiccia * house made fennel sausage, plum tomato, mozzarella, rosemary $12 Salumi * artisan sopressatta, plum tomato, asiago, artichoke mostarda $12 Napolitano * anchovy, hot peppers, capers, plum tomato, mozzarella $11 Pepperoni * roasted peppers, pancetta, plum tomato, mozzarella, gorgonzola dolce, basil $12 Barolo * testun di Barolo, fig, caramelized onion, speck $13 Rocket * white pie, arugula, green olives, pistachio pesto, raisins $12 For an appetizer, I chose the Caprese salad. It had nice heirloom tomatoes, artistic drizzles of oil and balsamic vinegar, and the best buffalo mozzarella I have ever had. This tasty cheese is always good, but sometimes it can be wet, bland, or both. But this was luscious - creamy and fresh. The tomatoes were not quite as good as those in my back yard, but they were indeed fine specimens of summer. I cringe at the places who make Caprese salad with a pink Florida tomato. I usually want a Margherita or sausage pie to best evaluate, but the "malfatti" was compelling. When it came out, I was delighted that it was not so much "half Stromboli" as the menu promised, but instead a round pizza where less than 25% of the crust was folded over on one edge. That did create a Stromboli-like pocket for some sweet peppers and plum tomatoes, but I'm guessing that the fold took place closer in time to the end of its baking, not at the beginning, because it was cooked delightfully inside and out. And, of course, it was not an overstuffed belly bomb that you'd get when you order the typical Stromboli. The crust was an absolute delight. As I've found with other superb pies, it had some characteristics of a Neapolitan crust, but it was firm and crisp like a Trenton/Brooklyn slice. I have to go back soon and eat this pizza again, because that crust was magical. I think it can rival some of my all-time favorites. Everything that topped that crust was a premiere ingredient, applied judiciously, and all in harmony with the essence of that particular pie variety. If I were to quibble, the only change I'd make would be to cut back or replace the sweet peppers. But that truly is quibbling, because this is easily the best pie in any 'burb west of Philly. In fact, it beats some of Philly's stars, like Osteria and Stephen Starr's Stella. I need to get into Tacconelli's in Port Richmond (so far, I've had only the Moorestown NJ Tacconelli's pie) so we can know who makes the best pizza in Pennsylvania. Eight guys with eight pies presented some opportunities for trading slices. Everything I tried was wonderfully balanced; that sublime crust with a mix of tomato, cheese, and other savory toppings. Most memorable was the Carbonara, which was quite a lot better than the one I had at Stella. I can make this pie, and my flavors on top are almost as good, but I can't touch that crust. This pie is art, the work of a great craftsman. It is gratifying to finally have world-class pizza without requiring a major road trip from my West Chester home. Worth mentioning is their happy hour, where the $10 Margherita pie is marked down to $6, and you can have a $2.50 Peroni with that. La Porta is the kind of place that every neighborhood should have. Read all my other pizza reviews at Pizza Quixote.

Wow! We pulled over for an impromptu lunch and were so impressed. the dining room has a great, ancient, rustic stone cottage feel - felt like a UK gastro-pub. The food was superlative! Our interest was piqued when the waiter explained that the freshly baked bread would be a couple of minutes because it was still a little too hot to handle. It was fantastic, as was the tomato and mozzarella salad we used the bread to sop up. I also ordered the chopped salad - it was really interesting with rosemary, golden raisins and almonds. Often salads are overlooked because why bother doing something special for a "dieter" who probably doesn't care about food. This salad was complex, tasty and original. My husband got the Salsiccia pizza with sausage. Yum! Thin, charred crust and nice arrangements of sweet and savory toppings. We were planning just to eat it and beat it but the food deserved more respect so we slowed down and each had a glass of wine. (We liked the look of the full list too.) The waitstaff were more "real" than professional - not perfect but sweet, chatty, interested, and solicitous. It felt like we were being served by a family. We'll be going back for dinner soon!

I think I love their pizza. Really enjoyed the calamari appetizer, although I think it is pricey especially for the portion they serve. Service was not that good... or should I say our server was not good. She forgot our drink order and was not friendly at all.

Some of the best food in the Area, AND perhaps the rudest Valet's I have ever encountered. Since there is limited parking out front - there is a valet situation where your car is parked in a lot that appears to have recently been attacked by drones. Potholes everywhere. Well my car has a very low front spoiler, not to mention, I'm not letting a high school valet park this thing. So I parked just outside the fence by the nursery lot that they use. Well during dinner I was asked for the key so this guy could move it. I told him "no" and that's when the fun began. A total fiasco - to the point where I'll never go back I have been going there since it changed from the Locust Tavern. Freddie is wonderful. However if you drive a nice car, and are particular who, and where its parked, and especially who drives it, you better think twice about this. I've seen better parking lots in downtown Kabul!! Totally rude, and an experience I have never had in any other restaurant, in any country, I've ever been in. This was then followed by them charging $1.00 more for extra red pepper in the pasta dish that was ordered. What a joke. I'll go to Alba in Malvern. Better food, nice people. Did I mention the manager was no better when I asked to speak to him...

We had our 2nd visit to La Porta with 2 more friends and were just as happy as the first time we visited. Both sets of friends loved that we finally have great food in Delco. If you are looking for chicken parm, this is not that restaurant. For a Thursday night, this place was rocking. We waited 40 minutes for a table while enjoying a nice cold Italian beer. They have a wonderful beer and wine selection, but be warned the bar is small. Btw, their bar staff is attentive! I also noticed new tables that were seated after 8:30 pm which is almost unheard of in the burbs. This is a place to go and share plates. Last night we shared 10 things and we were not disappointed in any of them. My favorite is the Portofoglio. A must try. We usually don't return to many restaurants twice because we love to dine in the city, but now we have a neighborhood gem to return to. Well done La Porta!!

I've been waiting anxiously for LaPorta to open as I have enjoyed Modo Mio in the past. Last night was my second visit following one a few weeks back. I sat at the bar on both occasions and the service has improved greatly betwwen visits which is understandable as it has only been opened a short time. The food is excellent for what McAndrews is trying to accomplish. Last night it was the rocket pizza which was a killer and the previous time it was the sausage. Both great. Had a meatball appetizer last night which was also very good. Very good spot to grab a casual meal, a beer and watch a game at the bar. I have to stress this is some of the better pizza you will find anywhere

Just had an amazing late lunch/early dinner! Everything was great! Shared two of the small snacks, clams casino and smoked mozzarella to start, they were both delicious. Pasta entrees were great! Wine/beer selections are fabulous! Can't wait to go back and try the salad and pizzas and the burger looked great too! Loved the atmosphere; rustic and charming with fire place burning...great spot!

The third time was not the charm. I've given this restaurant three tries in hopes that it would match my experience dining at Modo Mio and Paesono's downtown. It did not. The food is always under seasoned, has a weird texture, is flavorless, or in the case of the Pizza, is always burned. No, really burned, not with the "Italian char" that they say is normal. Cajun style inedible because all you taste is charcoal. The servers try to clear the dishes before you are done, which in the case of this horrible food is not necessarily a bad thing. The topper of our experience last night was that a stink bug popped out of the heated cheese that was on our bruschetta. No one apologized or offered to remove the item from the bill. If this restaurant was downtown they would not last the month.

Been driving by La Porta since it opened. Finally made it there for dinner and glad we did. Not your typical Italian fare, in a good way. Some familiar items on the menu, but all with a different flair. Good service, good price, and proper portions...didn't have to take half my meal home for a change. Try it....we'll be back.

This place is perfect! Great food, awesome wine and and an excellent staff. Plus it's way to reasonable! I am a very picky Italian eater being 100 percent Italian but this place took me back to my trips to Italy! This is the best kept secret in out area!!!! Seriously go check it out! Maybe you'll see me there because Im planning on having my own table by end of summer! :0)

As a native Napolitan, I was so impressed by the spectacular meal I shared with my friends. The spuntini, especially the scamoza reminded me of the fabulous honest cooking of the Puglia region. The gnocchi and fra diavolo had a more Neopolitan sophistication. Bravo to the staff and chef for the quick service, succulent food, and good red wine.

Tuscan fries were but should be shared by no fewer than 4 people as the pile of potatoes, sauce, etc. Is too much for anyone concerned about their weight or general health. Porchetta pizza and beer were as good as expected. Service was excellent.

I'm surprised that no one has mentioned how noisy the place is - the rooms are small and the sound bounces off the stone walls. This definitely interferred with our enjoyment, and I probably won't be able to het my hub to go back. also, the waitress served my hub the wrong beer and served me a glass of warm Pinot Grigio. She was very apologetic, but it shouldn't hasve happened. That said, the food was good - Tuscan fries and Pizza Neopolitano.

In my opinion; La Porta is the best Italian restaurant in Delco. They have an extensive wine list as well as a full bar. My favorite meal would be the Salmon atop of mixed greens with goat cheese, spiced walnuts, garlic smoked bacon and a fig vinaigrette. Their recipes are spot on. LaPorta definitely knows how to mix the right textures and tastes to create a unique and decadent plate. Their staff is very friendly and the atmosphere is very cozy. Be sure to make a reservation; especially in the winter when outdoor seating is not an option. Monday's is BYOB with no corkage fee and valet is available Wednesdays through the Weekends; otherwise parking is pretty difficult to find.

If I could I would give La Porta 4.5 stars - I have now eaten here 3 different times and I have consistently had good food and good service. To start, I definitely recommend reservations to secure your seating in the main dining area. They try to time their reservations and we have never had to wait more than 5-10 minutes. We did not mind at all - their bar is great and so we took that time to get a drink. They have wine, beer, and cocktails and the bartenders are very nice and helpful. There is also seating at the bar for dinner and they have happy hour specials during the week. The food is delicious!! They always have creative specials and I had yet to order something off their main menu! Their menu is diverse though with appetizers, salads, pizzas and entrees. My entrees and pizza have been flawless, truly no complaints and meals were thoroughly enjoyed by all at the table. Our service was spot on - the servers are very busy but always have a smile and care about your experience. Parking is the biggest "issue" though I end up just using the valet service to the right of the restaurant. No fuss, complimentary.

What to do when I need a reservation at a restaurant in a town unknown to me and its an important celebratory meal ( sons college graduation, yeahhhhh!)? I turn to Yelp, I read reviews, I look at pictures, I make a reservation and I keep my fingers crossed. And how did La Porta turn out for this momentous occasion you (the collective you) may ask? Perfect! Although the address is in Media, for this New Yawwwka, it was a little off the beaten track of Media's downtown shopping area. Driving up to the restaurant, it appears to be almost English roadside pubish. Valet parking is definitely a plus. Once inside, the decor and ambience is beautiful with a country side inn feel and a beautiful (and very busy) bar area. Our reservation was made for 6:30 and we were seated within minutes of our reserved time. The waiter was there within seconds welcoming us to the restaurant, explaining specials, asking for drinks in a warm and hospitable fashion. We ordered a few glasses of wine/cocktails and a few very interesting appetizers. It's been a long week since graduation and frankly I'm sorry I can't speak to all the wonderful dishes had across the table. I can say this, Tuscan Fries awesome! I'm not a big salmon sort of guy however something in me said order it (my little yelp voice) and I did. Wonderfully delicious salmon that was done just right. What I really loved about La Porta is the range of offerings from a white clam pizza up to a 5 star tasting salmon dish, there's something for everyone at La Porta. Perhaps it's the glow of the Swarthmore graduation weekend that pushed the rating to a 5'er however how who cares why it's a 5, it just was a 5 star night!

Unique salads. Great wood fired pizzas. Fantastic rustic pastas. Sophisticated wine list. Lovely outdoor patio and working fireplace in a charming refurbished road house. Did I miss anything??

Stopped in early on a weekday during happy hour. Sat at an odd corner seat - right where the L turns at the bar. It's not a very big bar and the seats were so-so in terms of comfort and size. Only two booths in the bar. Took time to get recognized by the bartender. Asked for water and menu. She certainly wasn't very friendly. I'd call her somewhat stuck up. I've had plenty of good looking bartenders wait on me but this one seemed like she was doing you a favor by doing so. I asked her for a glass of the red wine on special and she never brought it. Her parter thankfully was far more customer service oriented and brought me the wine after I asked a second time. Nothing on the happy hour menu looked appealing so I ordered a Caesar Salad and penne with a white sauce. The Caesar was top notch. So many places throw romaine on a bowl and add weak dressing. You could tell this was prepared similarly to the original. The pasta was good - garlicky but I expected that. Pricey but expected. I would try it again. Food was good. Service started bad but got better. Nice atmosphere although I think I'll try the dining room next time.

My family & I ate here last Friday night for an earlyish (6pm) dinner. What I remember most about it a week later, unfortunately, is the noise level. We were seated in the room with the main entry door (which annoyingly stayed open every time diners came and left). As others have commented, ceilings are low and it is loud-- as in no-sound proofing, stone walls, and just plain loud. As in LOUD. Yes there was a party of 6 or 7 next to us-- but I felt like I was in a crowded bar shouting to the person next to me rather than eating dinner with my family. As loud or louder than Fellini Cafe on State St. As for the food- the house salad was fresh but the dressing way too sweet. Possibly homemade, but almost cloyingly sweet. My special spaghetti fradiavolo (sp?) had chunks of lobster and nice sized shrimp in a pleasantly spicy sauce - and was very reasonably priced for $18. My daughter's gnocchi was excellent- very light and delicious! Pizzas (one of their specialties I think) were fancy as far as toppings go--- but didn't impress me. One had Brussels sprouts, another has fig, goat cheese and pancetta. Great combinations, but I think the figs may have been dried (winter = not in season) and were too chewy. There wasn't enough cheese to make the topping oozy and melty, so the resulting bites with the nicely charred crusts seemed just dry. Another annoyance- I told the waiter we were celebrating my daughter's birthday. It turned out that none of us ordered dessert, but there was no acknowledgment. Either they forgot, or just dropped the ball. In my perfect dining world, some tiny sweet morsel with a candle should have appeared, regardless of whether the Bday girl ordered dessert. Lost opportunity for any restaurant to score big customer satisfaction points, imo. It's a decent, reasonably priced option for Italian food in my area-- if you're prepared to shout with your dining companions.

I really wanted to give this place 4.5 but eff it. The food is spot on. Very good recipes, great spin on lasagna, great ambiance, and good drinks. I felt like I was the youngest person in the restaurant by 20 years but nonetheless I was definitely in love with the food. My favorite item was the polpetto which is essentially a huge super rich meatball which is served in bechamel sauce and topped with pistachios. My only problem with the entire meal is that the chefs are a little heavy handed with the parmesan cheese. I mean it almost changed the flavor of the meal. This place is great and I will definitely be back for the polpetto recipe.

I have been to La Porta many times for happy hour and dinner and loved the happy hour specials and pizza. Today was the first time I went for lunch and was extremely disappointed in both the food and service. The waitress seemed extremely busy and we had to flag her down several times to ask to be served. My friend and I both had salads and they were wilted and not fresh at all! It almost seemed they had been sitting out for hours. I have had the same salad before for dinner and it was always fresh and good. I hope this lunch was just a fluke and not indicative of a normal lunch service.

Service was quick and extremely friendly! The food was good, I tried a few appetizers and the pizza. The pizza was a little moist and all over the place, I don't know if that was intentional but the vegetables I had on it fell off. I would recommend the meatball appetizer and to go eat here! It can be busy so make sure to get a reservation!
La Porta has some nice wine choices and the food was great. There are not many restaurants like this in the area, so it is nice to have a place to go. It was also one of the few restaurants in the area open late on Sunday night.

I keep driving by this place and have wanted to go, but the parking situation has been discouraging. We finally went last night - there were a couple of parking spots right out front! It was, however, close to 8pm. I had the veal special while my mom had the Cesare salad and the Liveracce and said that they were the best chicken livers she's had in a long time! My veal was ok. Next time I'll probably try the pizza. My one suggestion is that my mom is a gluten free eater and the online menu states "Gluten free selections are available for our pizza, pasta and bread." But, the menu itself, I believe, only states info about gluten free under their pizza menu advising to add $2 for gluten free pizza crust. I had asked her if she wanted to see if they had gluten free bread and she said since it's not listed on the menu, then they probably don't have it. We both had glasses of white wine and we took the Molten Lava Cake with strawberry whipped cream home with us. Oh and we sat outside which was very nice! I just wish there wasn't a pole right in the middle of the table! I will definitely come back here again!

Returned to La Porta for 5 star food and service but oh - so many flies!!!! You need to do something about the black fly population inside and out on the patio (which is lovely, otherwise). Tracey our server is terrific and the Caprese Salad (with August-ripened Heirloom tomatoes) was perfection and the house-made spinach gnocchi were terrific. Can't wait to come back - but please get a bug zapper!

I've been here several times and thought I had reviewed it but haven't so now I have to. The latest trip was a double date with the boss and her parents. We ordered a couple of pizzas and an appetizers. ATMOSPHERE: This a quaint spot with a nice bar and intimate dining experience for couple and groups. The one issue this place has is parking. There are about 10 spots in the main lot and once those are filled there is a side lot up the street that is somewhat sketchy. Pricing is somewhat reasonable for the area, and the accommodations for groups and food preferences is a nice touch. 9.5/10 FOOD: In terms of food this place is awesome. I don't usually sing praises repeatedly (see my other yelps) but it is very hard to find something wrong here. The pizza is very good. I've gotten the Muffati (made badly), the regular with pepperoni, and others and never been disappointed. The appetizers are also very good with ordering calamari and a couple of bread s etc before. In addition their pasta is good as well. 10/10 CONCLUSION: This is a highly recommended spot. Just a tip would be to call and make reservations ahead of time- because they fill up evenings very quickly. Another tip is La Porta means door. So there.

Usually very happy with LaPorta. Had a meal that was not good tonight and the service was very slow and not really welcoming. Didn't read me the specials (although I overheard another server reading his table the specials). Seemed to be more concerned about getting us out of there rather than providing top service. The fish smelled, well, fishy. The pizza was soggy. This is not the norm based on my past visits. They seemed understaffed. I think they only had 2 servers on for the entire restaurant. Overall, not happy with the visit.

Amazing. The food is incredible and reasonably priced, the servers are super friendly and the atmosphere is so cool- very rustic!! We started out with the mussels in a white wine sauce, I had the bolognese lasagna and my boyfriend had the osso bucco- everything was so delicious!!! Definitely recommend

Tasty pizza but it does get crowded so make reservations. The mushroom soup was super rich but delicious. Tomatoes in the Faroese weren't great. Cocktails and specials were good but overpriced. I think we'd go back and stick with pizza.

My husband and I were celebrating our anniversary and we decided to spend it in Glenmills, PA. In the B&B we were staying at La Porta was one of the syggested places and they did not disappoint. The staff were so kind seating us even though kitchen was ready for closing in 15minutes. They did not rush us and the food didnt taste rushed as well, how can you not appreciate a place that welcomes you with open arms. It was great dining here too while listening to their live entertainment. They are a wine bar so make sure to order a glass (or two). Food again was delicious and serving was very generous. I tried their braised brisket and it was soft and falvorful, braised to perfection. You're gonna love the italian ambiance here too, the rustic atmosphere. I would definitely recommend this place.

La Porta is decent. I like the atmosphere, but sometimes the clientele tends to be on the rich and snooty side. The beers on tap are always good, but the food is not as amazing as everyone keeps claiming here in these reviews. Yes, there are some tasty things there. I always like the calamari, the cheese plate is nice, the Portabello app is great and the crepes are yum, but there is a lot to be desired here. The pizza doesn't knock my socks off, but I am a fan of Tachinelli's or even Bertucci's brick oven. More gooey goodness! The pizzas at La Porta tend to be dry. The thing that sticks in my crawl the most about this place is the price of things. Now, I am not poor, but this place is outrageous for what you get. The fish dishes are tiny tiny and never run under 20-some-odd dollars. The meat dishes, besides the Osso Buco are even smaller and are in the 30 dollar range. Come on now!! I'll pay any amount for delicious food that blows me away. I just can't get behind it here... At any rate, try it if you feel the need and then figure out what it's good for. I personally like it for a few beers or wine and an app snack.

OMG this place is Amazing!!! Had lunch here today and it was so phenomenonal. Tried both the orecchiete and the cannelloni and they were both outstanding! Service was also excellent even though they seemed incredibly busy and possibly short a server or two. Also had the tiramisu which was on my top 2 ever and I order this at most Italian restaurants that make their own. Even the homemade foccacia was beyond delicious. I'm not in this area much but I will definitely be finding reasons to return!

everytime I visit laporta the food is outstanding !!! I love everything on their menu !!! Some items are a bit pricy but not bad; very nice to have a sit down dinner or lunch apps and drinks at the bar. I would definitely recommend the "torta" salad it is a crab cake over spring mix with a very yummy citrus dressing !!! AMAZING! Outside seating is available

This place is an absolute gem. One of my friends introduced to me this place and proclaimed he had discovered "the greatest pizza he has ever had". At first I was obviously a little skeptical about this claim but non the less decided to give it a shot. About 25 minutes after walking into the door, I was a believer. The pizza here is to die for. In fact, it is so good that it actually becomes an addiction. This place has some great top shelf liquors that you don't see very often and a massive selection of wine. They have an awesome happy hour from 4-6 PM that serves 6$ pizzas and 5$ wines. The atmosphere and staff are very lively and pleasant to be around. Lately this place has been getting packed every night so try and pop in during the happy hour.

The wife and I split a house salad. Greens were fresh and crisp. Dressing, a lemon-honey vinaigrette was very good. House burger and killer fries was the wife's selection. 8oz of sirloin was too much for her. My gain. I chose a special tonight, a veal chop over fingerling potatoes, topped with a slice of provolone, pancetta, a fried egg, and glazed with a caper butter sauce. No need for the Jenga creation, but it was delicious. A glass of chianti to compliment the dinner and professional grade service from Matt, topped off a commendable experience.

Being spoiled by so much great pizza in the city made me a little skeptical but it was not a disappointment. Great spot. Very nicely renovated former biker bar. Two pizzas & two salads and two desserts was great for four people. The crust was excellently prepared and cooked to perfection. The desserts were excellent as well, in particular the flourless chocolate tort with not raspberries as is typical, but sour cherries. And props to the valet guy who paid particular attention to my ever-doddering parents.

I've been to La Porta three times now and each time has been great. Monday nights are BYO with no corkage fee. Otherwise, drinks are moderately priced and the food is great. The first time I went, my husband and I shared the Polpetto, which was delicious. I ordered the margherita pizza which had the perfect amount of mozzarella. The second time, my husband and I shared the Mozzarella en Carozza appetizer which I could not get enough of. I ordered the Salsicca trying to be adventurous and I must admit I did not care for it. My husband enjoyed it but I wouldn't order it again - simply because of my personal preference. My husband ordered the Malfatti pizza which he loved. The most recent time we went, we ordered the Mozarella en Carozza again (it was too good to turn down). I ordered an orichette pasta that was a special. It was cooked to perfection with pancetta and shrimp with a lemon/basil sauce. I had enough for leftovers the next day and couldn't get enough. If they had this on their menu regularly, I would probably order it each time. My husband and I had both been dying to try the lasagna, so he ordered it and devoured it. I had a bite and can vouch that the flavor is unique and the dish itself is amazing. My suggestions on improvement: Better parking (it's nearly impossible to get parking out front) More frequent menu changes I can't wait to come back in the warmer weather to take advantage of their happy hours and outdoor seating.

Man oh man this place is gonna be my new go to spot to take my special woman. I ordered takeout from here the other night. WOW! It was incredible. The real deal here. You could tell they only use the finest and best quality ingredients. Apparently it is also a wine bar as well :)? I'm super excited to try their other foods and see what my better half thinks of it. This place almost has a near perfect review so you don't have to take my word from it..check out all the others :P enjoy!

This place is probably one of the better restaurants in this part of town. I've gone here 4 different times over a span of 4 months, so I've experienced a lot of different types of rotating dishes. Because they are constantly changing their menu, it's hard to say what's good to order. Their meat entree specials are mainly pork or fish from what I've seen, their pizzas also vary, and even the small dishes rotate. Their pizza crust is good. They also make gluten-free pizza dough for $2 extra, which is a plus for those who love Italian and have gluten-free needs. My gluten-free friend said that she was almost scared because it tasted so much like regular crust. Unfortunately, each time I've ordered their pizza, their sauce changes (once it was sweet, which I was not at all a fan of) so it's hard to review anything about the pizza besides the crust. The toppings are fairly unique, with a few standard toppings (margherita, salumi, etc). They once had a beef cheek with fig pizza that was good, but it was a bit sweet for what I'd like my pizza to taste like. Their lasagna is awesome. It tastes like something I would have in Italy. It comes with a fried egg on top, and while this is very faux pas for some people, I thought the egg complemented the lasagna very well. Regardless, you could get it without the egg, but I'd argue it doesn't taste nearly as good. As for the specials, some of the specials sound very good (on some days, they roast an entire pork as a special), and the others aren't as good. I've tried their pork shoulder (it was a bit tough), as well as a white fish they had (it was bland). I have learned to stay away from the specials unless it sounds absolutely amazing. On to the small plates. Their bruschetta seems to rotate every one or two months. The one I fell in love with was their goat cheese and fig bruschetta. If it's ever back on the menu, it is by far one of the better things on their menu. You can't really go wrong with their meat and cheese plate, Tuscan fries, mussels, or calamari (in that order of quality). These are fairly large appetizers, so you'll want to share. I've only had their panna cotta for dessert. This also rotates. The ones I've tried are raspberry and mint. The raspberry one is very, very, very good. I'm not usually a fan of panna cotta, so this is saying a lot. However, we went back recently where they changed it to a mint panna cotta. Unfortunately, I did not like it one bit. After one bite, I felt like I had mouthwashed. Not the best feeling for dessert, in my opinion. But if you like mint, this would be a pretty good choice, since the quality is still there. Since I've only come on weekdays, it's always been fairly empty and quiet. Their wine selection is good, the entire restaurant is decorated very well and gives a very comfortable feel, and I'd say that for the most part, their food is really good. I'd pick this over any other Italian chain any day.

First time dining here and honestly I have never heard of the place before. We ordered the calamari and bean cake with jumbo lump crab for apps, both were excellent. For my main course I had the lamb special and it came with fingerling potatoes, garlic spinach and a cherry sauce. I would have licked my plate clean if it wasn't frowned upon. At the table we had another lamb, a pizza, pork sandwich and the lasagna, we were all very pleased. Good craft beer draft/bottle selection and a large wine selection. All of the food came out very quickly. I would certainly recommend this place. My wife and I plan on going back again soon.

First, it is not in Media...it is in Edgmont with a Media mailing address...a fact which can easily confound your GPS navigator. Second, it is the loudest place you can imagine. We shouted at each other, and still could hardly hear a word that was said...and that was before the music started in the bar. Third, I'm not a big fan of smelly cheeses, but I love a good pizza topped with (only) mozzarella, which is what the waitress assured me I was getting. Clearly, what arrived contained a mixture of cheeses, which the waitress again insisted was only mozzarella. There were five of us eating that night, and the only one who liked her food had ordered the roast pork sandwich. One out of five...that's the rating I gave to this place.

Noisy and bustling but emptied out pretty well around 8. The bread was amazing esp the texture. Salad, even the house salad was done with care and had original flavor. Fishs of the day with corn salsa and rainbow chard was perfect. Service was friendly and timely but not rushed. I like this place!

Dined there with friends and three of the four of us had wonderful meals. We started with the Sporky ("dirty" white) pizza as an appetizer and it was outstanding. I had the gnocchi, which is usually a risky choice, but their's was wonderful. Served with fresh crab meat, the pasta was light and delicious in a subtle cream sauce. Our friend who ordered the special (a steak) found it inedible, but the restaurant took it off the bill. The only negative about the place is how tiny it is and close you are to other tables. My chair was so close to the wall, I could barely pull it out enough to get in my seat (and I'm not a big girl!). Highly recommended! (Be sure to make reservations).

It was my first time at this restaurant and being on a low carb diet I ordered the portabella mushroom and the chicken special. The service was slow and it took them 10 minutes to acknowledge us standing at the hostess stand, I was about to leave when finally someone asked if we were being helped. I admit the portabella with the egg was really good and got up my expectations for my main the chicken. Wow what a let down. Don't order the chicken special. First it was way overprice - $19 for a small piece of chicken, I mean free range small, old chicken. I asked for extra asparagus and I got 5 more than the serving. Obviously I did not leave the table satisfied, so went home and had something to eat. I won't be back.

Excellent Italian restaurant in the little town of Media. Found them on Yelp and so glad we made the decision to stop and try them. The restaurant is very quaint and charming. When you walk in you feel like you are in an Italian farmhouse. Great servers who were very helpful in making decisions. I am a huge pork chop fan so I tried the Burgundy Braised Pork Chops. They were tender and delicious. One of the best meals I've ever had. The wine list had a great selection to chose from. A definite" Must Go" place.

We stop by before going to the Bates hotel. It was a amazing Italian restaurant that you will never forget. During the night time, it was very romantic. The service was very professional, they will treat you very well when you ask them for anything. Their food was fantastic, the lamb I got was just milt in your mouth, it was like gone to the heaven. I highly recommended to come here when you pass the road.

The only reason this place doesn't get 5 stars is because of the parking situation. When you pull up to the restaurant you have to pull into the little strip of driveway which is always full with cars. There's a road next to the restaurant that a valet will take your car down and park it in another little parking lot. This is very helpful but it's just the fact that you have to squeeze into the restaurants little driveway at first which can be a little annoying. Other than that they have a very good beer selection and their food is really good. Their funghi pizza is the best.

Not sure why its so crowded. Both our pasta dishes were way overcooked (ever heard of al dente?), and service was erratic. Would have gotten a side salad, but refuse to pay $8 for one. Wine is a little pricey as well. If you want good, reasonably priced Italian food without having to drive into Center City, drive up to Roberto's Trattoria in Flourtown. Well, at least my curiousity has been squelched, I can drive by never having to worry about being able to find a parking spot, or getting a table.

We regularly visit La Porta and they are consistently great. Last night we had an exceptional meal with their special dish of snails! They are very accommodating of my dairy sensitivity as well. Their Fish and Chips are fresh, flaky, crispy, and delicious. Love the Tuscan fries and the house salad. Live music is a plus!

Seven months since my last review, La Porta ranks tops! Do take-out -- the 2 for $20 deal is great. Latest pizza fav - the Funghi with mushrooms and egg. OMG!!!! We still continue to take out of town family and friends here all the time. That means this place is a great investment of our hard earned cash.

LOVE La Porta! Large selection of gourmet pizzas, appetizers, and pastas. Our favorite pizzas are the malfatti ("badly made" half-stomboli/half-pizza with roasted red peppers, proscuitto, and basil) and the rocket (pistaschio pesto with shrimp, arugula, and almonds). Delicious appetizers include the tuscan fries (fries with eggplant, zucchini and red pepper doused in garlic aioli and balsamic reduction) and the calamari. If you're in the mood for takeout, definitely take advantage of their 2 pizzas for $20 take out deal. Tax included! Parking can be tight. If there aren't spaces available in the main lot, either utilize the free valet or park in the overflow lot just north of the restaurant on Rt. 352.

Since my initial visit, I've tried most all of their menu items and try getting their specials when the mood strikes me. I have been impressed with them all and I would now call us regulars as we stop in at least once a week, sometimes more lately. The newly recent carbonara pizza had been a new fav of mine, minus the fried egg due to texture, with a white sauce (but not too heavy, more on the light side), bacon, cracked black pepper - geared towards resemblance of the pasta dish and they've conquered it. Beer options have been changing, new ones added this week as we were told to reflect more of the seasonal options along with the crowds taste buds. Wine options have increased as well and Ernesto is always happy to make suggestions based on your palate. If you haven't already, stop in and grab lunch or dinner!

Wow! Unexpected gem in Media with great food and service. We had a memorial gathering for my mother and a group of 15 needed a place for lunch. They could not have been more accommodating or provided a better experience. Great, friendly service and every dish was delicious. We had a chance to try many different dishes and not a miss among them. Fig Bruschetta, Liveracce, Tuscan Fries, Rocket Pizza, Salmon Salad and pork sandwich we're stand-out dishes but you cannot go wrong here. Full bar, great wine selection, and really charming decor and ambiance round things out.

So we visited here again looking for a quick bite on Sunday evening. We sat at the bar for 5 minutes and no bartender or server even addressed us. There were others sitting at the bar eating as well as a table. 5 employees walked past us and never said a word. I realize it was 9pm on a Sunday but in 5 minutes not a single person. We got up a left. This is the troubling part of this restaurant. The service. The bar service and staff is not very tight at all. (Table servers are pretty good). The food is awesome but if the service doenst change, we will go elsewhere. Its a shame because its a great place.

Wonderful service. Outstanding food and a flat out good time. The owner gave me a "taste" of a Sicilian wine that other places charge 9 bucks for. The pizza was loaded with flavor and heat and crunch and love. Outstanding and would definitely visit here anytime I am within 45 minutes driving distance.

Prompted by the five-star Yelp reviews, I went to La Porta for dinner recently. I was not as impressed as others seem to be with this restaurant. SERVICE: The service was excellent. We had reservations but arrived a little early, and the hostess graciously accommodated. Our waiter was attentive, friendly, knowledgeable, and likeable. You really could not ask for more from the staff. WINE: Wine is their thing, so it should receive comment. There was a good selection of wine (in addition to full bar). The waiter was unable to make a recommendation, but he promptly consulted the bartender who did make a good recommendation. ATMOSPHERE: La Porta offers an appealing atmosphere. It's casual but a little more upscale - trendy but comfortable. There is a good vibe, I think mostly because the staff are so friendly and pleasant which helps create a good mood. The dining area was over-crowded with tables, though, and a ceiling spotlight was pointed directly into my face at my table. FOOD: This is where I fall off the La Porta bandwagon. Certain components of our dishes were good, others not so good. The night we were there, a linguine with mussels special was offered. The pasta was hearty without being too heavy, and was perfectly cooked. However, the dish was oily and under-seasoned. This dish should have been generously seasoned with fresh herbs, but was really just bland oily linguini with mussels. Salmon salad was also ordered. The greens were extremely fresh, and the dressing (presumably house made) was bright and balanced (I suggest they keep this dressing on the summer menu). But the salmon was very over-cooked - the outside was hard (not just crisp), and the inside was dry. The portion of fish was also small. It was like a hard salmon turd on on top of a delicious salad. PARKING: Also of note, the parking was less than convenient. There are limited parking spots near the restaurant. Additional parking is across the street and, while there is a sidewalk, was a little treacherous in snow and heels. If a spot near the door isn't available, I suggest taking advantage of the valet.

A great addition to dining in Delaware County! Don't drive too fast down 352, or you may fly by this place in an instant. Worthwhile for locals, better still if you make the drive out here. One note: This restaurant is listed as being in Media, but it's not downtown Media, I'll explain further in the review. Atmosphere: Welcoming entrance to a little Italian style farmhouse, with exposed walls showing brick and stucco, capped with natural wood beams across the top. The seating areas were very suprising, given that this place doesn't appear so big on the outside. A small candle in the middle of the larger dining room awaited us at our table. Table wasn't leveled correctly, but a well place napkin did the trick. Waitstaff: Our waiter greeted us quickly and efficiently pointing out rotational beers on tap as well as wines by the glass. Our party happily chose a few of the adult beverages and proceeded to be impressed with the level of service. My water glass never saw a bottom, and our table never had a dirty plate on it when an app or entree was finished. Food - Wow, great quality and taste. Our group started with the Nachismo, which is an Italian style nacho platter, complete with sausage, white beans, and sun dried pesto. Very unique take on a nacho platter, was blown away by the amount of flavor. The Calamari was also very good, although the Cocktail Sauce was much sweeter than I've had before. Not saying it was bad, just different, and added to the taste. We then went with two pizza for our table, a Margherita pizza (which one of our diner's said was the best she's had in the area), and a second special white pizza with spinach and salmon. You'd think fish on pizza wouldn't go that well, but whatever they did, it was a very nice way to enjoy a traditional pizza. Salmon added a unique, but delicious flavor, while giving your palette a taste workout. Intangibles - Couple things to point out when you go, parking can be very, very limited. But feel free to use the complimentary valet on the side of the restaurant, service was quick and efficient both in and out as needed. Restaurant also can be very loud, with the echoes of conversation coming off of the walls, low talkers should sit close or go not during peak hours. Children can go, however, I didn't see any kids menu items listed, parents may want to think twice about bringing children under five, as they can interrupt other diners from the noise level. Overall - La Porta is a fantastic addition to the food scene in Delaware County. It's not in traditional downtown Media, but rather, off of 352 (take the Rte. 1 bypass if you're coming from further away). Their food, service, and atmosphere is a great find, and the prices were very reasonable for an inexpensive, but fun night out. If you haven't made the trip, hopefully you will now to check it out.

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.
Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.
If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.

Great food, better spirits, what about the desserts??? It's a dessert desert!!! Cannoli? Creme Brûlée? Give us the option of some traditional favorites, please.

Really great Italian. Not too heavy. Good for a proper dinner or just pizza. Tira Misu is wonderful. Nice atmosphere. Kid friendly.

(4)Jim S.
Decent Italian food, not especially outstanding, but not horrible. Nice atmosphere, and located next to Ridley Creek Park.
(3)Leeroy J.
(5)Daniel F.

Food was delicious !! The cannelloni was out if this world !!

(5)Janie M.
Had lunch last Saturday during the snowstorm. My friends and I were the second diners there so we scored a cozy table near the fire place. Everyone enjoyed the food (I had the gnocchi and the gravy was spectacular.) Portions were a bit small, even for lunch. I will go back again.
(4)Rando S.
Food was ok, but how do you screw up a martini? Worst drinks ever! The service was pretty bad as well. Not going back.
(1)Chris W.

La Porta in Media is the place to be . The food and the service is GREAT. This past Friday we had an early diner and ordered several items on the menu. The pizza and the lasagna was killer.

Great food! Everything we ordered was delicious. Went there for lunch and for dinner. Parking is a bit challenging.

(5)John D.
Enjoyed it! Not your traditional Italian fare - - lots of dishes with olives, capers and other salty items. Pizza was great as were the appetizers. Heading back for another round soon!

Great spot! Whether you're in the mood for a craft beer or nice glass of wine, you'll find something nice. Food special are getting better too. Atmosphere and staff are alway pleasant.

I hear they have a gluten-free pizza dough!!! I will update after my next experience at La Porta

Love this place. All of the pizzas are great, especially the Margherita and the Salsiccia. I often get the dinner specials which are always delicious and creative. The staff is very attentive and super nice.

(5)John K.
Tuscan fries were but should be shared by no fewer than 4 people as the pile of potatoes, sauce, etc. Is too much for anyone concerned about their weight or general health. Porchetta pizza and beer were as good as expected. Service was excellent.
(4)Leslie S.

Great food, great service and overall a wonderful experience, will be a returning customer!

Great place. The food has never disappointed. We dined outside and it was great. Prices are reasonable.

(2)James C.

We'd driven by many times in the evening and every single night the place is packed, with a crowd on the patio (even in unpleasant heat an humidity), a free valet trying to juggle cars overflowing from the parking lot, and people parking farther down at Country Deli, throwing their sport coat over their shoulder to walk along high-flying traffic of 352 for some of La Porta's food. (sport coat not at all required) We wanted to know what was up. So we turned to Yelp. I don't know if I didn't read enough reviews or what, but I would not have gathered from the other Yelpers that the main menu category is artisan pizza. People discussed "Italian restaurant," which I know to mean "trattoria" or "ristorante," which means primarily pasta (all ways), with many of the dishes involving seafood, and then veal or lamb in some Tuscan country style, etc. But upon consulting the menu on their website, it is, in fact, pretty pizza-centric. When I called and asked what they recommend, again, it was pizza, and pizza. So this is just to clarify for anyone who didn't know (like me). I was bummed to hear the pizza news because I am not a pizza person. I don't care if it is the artisanest of artisan pizzas, I will take most any other kind of cuisine over pizza any time I am asked, so consider my pizza-appreciation skills and bias, as you read on. That said, La Porta does have other menu items, and I was particularly in the mood for lasagne, which they offer. Husband and I did takeout to avoid the crowd. We decided that since pizza is what they do, and with all the 5-star reviews, we should try some, so we went for the 2/$20 pizza takeout offer (which is a great deal considering the pies we wanted were in the $15-$16 range), and a serving of lasagne (which the server who I spoke to said was enough for 2). Order was a lot for two people but reviews swayed us to make the investment. We ordered the Coglioni and the Malfatti ("Badly Made") pizzas. The Coglioni was decent. The basil and plum tomato flavors were really nice, and all the ingredients were very fresh. I am not a fan of fire/oven burns on crust, but again, I am not a refined pizza eater (nor real pizza eater of any kind) so please take that for what it's worth. The Malfatti was less of a hit with both of us. My half had about 2 pieces of prosciutto, one of which tasted very odd, which I believe came from the cooking of it (I couldn't eat it). So to us, the "Malfatti" was mal-fatti, but the Coglioni was something we could see pizza-lovers crowding the porch to eat. And then there was LASAGNE. Up until now you may wonder why I gave this place 5 stars? 7 letters: L-A-S-A-G-N-E. Oh la la, was this lasagne divine! La Porta lasagne is not a traditional lasagne I have ever met. The fillings were oddly dry for typical lasagne, with a layer of packed ground meat, and another layer of dry-ish béchemel. I am confident it was intended this way because the pasta was not dry nor overcooked, and the whole thing was then smothered in a creamy pink-orange sauce, with fried egg on the side. The sauce against the dryness was a perfect confluence. Lasagne at all the other local places I've had it--Soprano's, Giuseppe's, La Locanda, Fellini's, Frankie's Fellini Cafe (same name different family), Valentino's, Luigi and Giovanni's (yuk), etc.--is the same formula used in Stouffer's, only fresher. There is pasta, ricotta, marinara, ground beef, some typical spices (with oregano and basil at the top of the list), and then mozzarella. Predictable variations are common: sometimes veggies like eggplant, zucchini, carrot, etc. are added. Sometimes it's made with slabs of fresh mozz instead of grated not-fresh mozz. Sometimes they use a white sauce, make it with spinach, do it in a vegetarian form, etc. but really it's normally within the parameters of The Expected. La Porta lasagne tasted more Mediterranean to us (like a moussaka feel) as opposed to mainland Italian. The lasagne sauce was bursting with notes of cinnamon and rosemary, which were addictive to us. I awoke at 5am desperately craving more. The cinnamon element is something I have only ever tasted in the Bolognese alla Bergonzi (baked riggatoni) at the High Note Cafe (formerly Franco & Luigi's) in S. Philly. I ADORE that dish and never stray from it any time we dine there. Likewise, I now ADORE La Porta's lasagne, and doubt I will ever order anything else on their menu because, for me, that flavor is too addicting to give up, even for one visit. And the server must note it is not enough for 2 people. I did NOT get enough! I was surprised La Porta's address was Media, not Newtown Square. It's right on the border, and that part of Media is really Glen Mills territory. Also, it is dangerously close to both the nether regions of Malvern, and eastern West Chester, so I know if it's not already, it will soon be drawing crowds from all of these places. Well, I guess we'll battle growing crowds for lasagne, but we will be back.

(2)Lisa L.
(5)Kate F.

(5)Takemy W.
(2)Carla V.
(5)Nadean H.
everytime I visit laporta the food is outstanding !!!

Had an amazing lunch yesterday. Everything so fresh and delicious. The flavor combinations and reductions were magical. The place is warm and welcoming and our server Chantal is a favorite.

(5)Poppin D.
(5)Jonny S.

(4)Alex M.

(1)Andrea M.
Great atmosphere! Make sure you have a reservation at dinner time. Foods amazing and tons of gluten free options(pizzas not that good). Definitely worth the trip for the atmosphere!
(4)Debbie F.
Noisy and bustling but emptied out pretty well around 8. The bread was amazing esp the texture. Salad, even the house salad was done with care and had original flavor. Fishs of the day with corn salsa and rainbow chard was perfect. Service was friendly and timely but not rushed. I like this place!
(5)Jeff M.
The last few times we have been here the food has been inconsistent and average at best. It's a shame as we really liked this place.
(4)Brenda M.
Great place...waitress was very nice. Food and wine were delicious . Pizza for one is definitely for two. Place is small and parking limited.

Excellent food and great atmosphere, very welcoming! I've been here for a drink and stopped in for a few dinners and it's been awesome each time, Can't wait to go back!!

Great food! A lil noisy but loved the atmosphere and decor. Service was good too. We will be returning in the future!

We found this place last year and we've been going ever since. Pizza is outstanding here! I've never had a bad meal. Very creative and tasty dishes. You won't be disappointed. Staff is very attentive and friendly!

Food was excellent. Service was helpful. Clean. Planning to return. A smaller venue.
