Outstanding sandwiches! Visiting my son at Swarthmore and we headed to Media for lunch. As usual, Yelp guided us to this neighborhood gem! We walked and checked the restaurants on West State and we just could not decide. We were looking for a great casual restaurant with outdoor seating and a local vibe. We found it all at this small casual hipstery sandwich shop! House is very small with only a few tables inside and a few tables outside to sit. The feeling you get inside is a young, college town, fresh, organic, inexpensive and cool place to grab a cup of soup, a great panini, an interesting salad and some home made ice tea! And that's exactly what we all did. House offers a two or three item combo with choice of soup, salad and half a sandwich as a way to sample all. The tomato soup was creamy and delicious, not your typical acidic tomato soup. This is a must have along with the Harvest grilled cheese sandwich. The winter salad had fresh black mission figs, rosemary infused macrona almonds (I need more of these!), creamy chevere cheese and an amazing cranberry clementine vinaigrette dressing. I really could have eaten a full salad and a whole sandwich! On to the sandwiches. The Harvest was terrific! Creamy aged white cheddar cheese, apple slices, grilled onions and crunchy bacon grilled paninni style! We all shared an extra one of these on top of the half sandwiches we ordered. I had the Slugger, an interesting combination of braised pork, Kimchi slaw and white cheddar all melted together between grilled sour dough bread. Can't say enough great things about this restaurant and can't wait to visit again!

I was Media for a workshop and lucked out when Iron Hill had a line out the door & we found House. The waiter was gracious and efficient & the food was delicious. Our waiter brought us a sample of the Soup of the Day (Celery root) so we could decide if we liked it (we did). Highly recommend this place. Small, quaint, nice to patronize a small business rather than the chains.

So I realllllly wanted to love this place. They played great music, the food was awesome, and they display local art, which I absolutely love- and not just "local art", but really beautiful pieces. However, my mom and I stopped in for brunch on a Saturday and were seated directly in front of the doorway to the kitchen/the hostess station, so someone bumped the back of my chair every time they walked by. Also, being next to the kitchen, which was obnoxiously loud, I couldn't relax and enjoy the homey, hip atmosphere of the place. The service also was pretty bipolar- the waiter was sort of nice, the hostess was over the top bubbly, and one of the servers who came over to ask how we were doing was so soft spoken she had to lean in close enough to kiss me so I could hear her. My panini was great, but i'll sit outside or order out next time.

The food here is fresh, delicious, and executed with such care and good intention. It is, by far, the best place to eat in Media. I am not exaggerating for effect. It truly is the total package. The chef understands how flavors and textures compliment one another, and this is true for the sandwiches, salads, and the soups. Sometimes he has combinations that I would never have thought of, and they come together in a perfect balance of savory and sweet, or pungent and creamy. I love when a chef is creative and loves food and it shows! Also, the people who work there are so friendly and easy going. It feels good to be there, and we feel good when we eat there. Eat in or take out. Try all the soups, because they are incredible!

Thank you, House. Thank you for being a bright light in my day of torture (i.e. jury duty). I needed to pick up a quick lunch during my short jury duty break and House completely came through. The place is simply and beautifully decorated. The host was very friendly and helpful. He reassured me that my food would come out quickly...and that I would still make it back in time for court (I guess the red button gave it away). I decided to go with the King Kahn panini and it was absolutely delicious. I am definitely going back and hopefully this time I can enjoy my food at a slightly slower pace.

What a cute, little shop! I absolutely loved the homey feel and interior of House. This is a perfect spot to enjoy a nice lunch with a loved one. Service was nice and courteous. I had the half and half special and paired up The Frenchie sandwich with The King Khan salad. The sandwich definitely had a unique and complex aroma to it. With each bite, I experienced another taste as my palate opened up. Not to mention, the bread used for the sandwich was a great choice. The crunchiness and texture was just awesome. As for the salad, I didn't expect it to be filling... I never get full from salads. However, each bite proved to be very rich in texture and taste. I liked how sriracha sauce was incorporated into it.. I love me some sriracha! I can't wait for my next visit.. I want to sample the menu!

I brought my family here for my mother in laws birthday lunch a few weeks ago. I give it 3 stars because I will forever love their El Niño sandwich but since their expansion, the service has been rough. This was the second time going after the redo and both times I was left hanging. The waiters all seemed pretty confused about their tables and it was pretty difficult to get anyone's attention. At the end of the drawn out meal it was hard to get the bill out of them and then given the wrong change. I understand they need to build up some steam since they didn't have table service in the smaller establishment, but they should consider hiring some very experienced wait staff instead of sub par college students.
(3)Meghan S.
A delightful little place with warm ambience and a solid, well-rounded dinner menu. They unfortunately ran out of my first choice entree (lamb), but I was happy with the meatloaf, although it had almost... too much cheese in it? (Which for me is saying something.) Eggplant soup = delicious. Service was very friendly.

Stopped in to grab a take out lunch, thinking house still had its tiny take out set-up and found a bigger restaurant with plenty of seating for a causal sit down lunch. I heard good things about the King Khan sandwich so I got the 1/2 Sandwich and half house salad deal. My bf got the Shiva Curried Chicken salad sandwich. When I brought it home I was definitely jealous of the Shiva chicken salad sandwich my beau got, which was really yummy. My house salad came with a dressing that was super oily and I thought made the mixed greens even more bitter than they already were. Also, I thought the buffalo chicken sandwich was overpowered by the Gorgonzola cheese to the point where I wasn't positive if it actually had chicken on it or not. The bread was really good though, so I think that sandwich was just not my particular flav, but i'd like to try House again because they had a bunch of other tasty sounding options. Def good bones!

I'll admit it ... I almost bolted after I first walked in House's door. Maybe it was the size (I am often claustrophobic). Maybe it was my feeling that the vibe of the place was somewhat self-righteous or snobby. But I stuck it out. And boy am I glad I did! The sandwiches are GREAT! Flavourful, fresh, succulent ... absolutely delicious. They are a little on the pricey side for what you get (I was still a LITTLE bit hungry by the end), but not outrageuos considering how much of it is ... ahem ... "house"-made and fresh. All-in-all a great little place!
(4)Jeff S.
After living a block away from the restaurant House I finally made it there for a meal. It was a really nice day out and was able to take advantage of House's out door seating. The food was amazing. There was about 5 of us that ate together and there wasn't one complaint about the food. Everything tasted fresh and delicious! I highly recommend the sandwich Jersey Joe! The ordering was a bit confusing only because you order at the counter and then need to return to the counter again after your meal to pay, but the staff was very nice and helpful so it was not a worry at all. House is a small restaurant so get there when you can because seating fills up quick! I will definitely be back to this neighborhood gem!
(5)Kelly C.
This place is great for lunch! The shop is quaint so I recommend take-out, but they have recently expanded. Their grilled cheese sandwiches and soups are amazing. The service is great, and staff are super friendly. This is by far my favorite lunch spot in Media.
(5)T C.
Top notch! Wonderful staff, delicious sandwiches. Great location. I mostly get takeout, a hit every time!
(5)Karen B.
it's a real bummer that this place wasn't around when i was growing up in media. all of the compliments that could be given to a place like this apply: great menu, great service, great environment. two thumbs up.
(5)Stina C.
Great hole in the wall!! I haven't been there after their renovation, but before that it was a small and cozy space. I always get the tomato soup with my sandwich. The half sandwich and small soup deal usually fills me up and it's less than $10 with a coffee. I have only gotten the tuna melt because, hey, I love tuna melts! But it seems like you can't go wrong with any other sandwich on their menu. I always go to get away from the franchise-y restaurants that are all over the suburbs. It brings me back to the days of living in the city during my college years where I can walk down the street from my apartment to grab a fresh and budget friendly meal. Ahhh..always puts a smile on my face!
(5)Dy S.
The suburbs aren't always the best place for fine food and bev but this place is city comparable. The staff is young and hip-but not uber friendly, however the food makes up for it. I had a home made soup-it had a clever name, but all I remember is it was mushroom and it was fantastic. The Salad was very fresh and inventive too. Great place for lunch. I'd go again.
(4)P E.
Not sure what others find so fabulous about this place. I had an ok sandwich and soup but nothing what I would call over the top. I had the tomato soup -too much olive oil drizzled on top made it very greasy. It had good flavors but needed seasoning and there is no salt or pepper in the tables. My dining partner had the pea soup which was good and had a fresh pea taste. I had the Khan sandwich which was a buffalo chicken with Gorgonzola - the cheese was creamy but not very flavorful. My partner had the BLT which was more L than anything else. They grilled the sandwiches well but they came way after the soup which needed some bread or crackers to go with them. Had they come with the sandwiches it would have been fine. This plus two drinks set us back $30. This is a bit pricey considering the lack of service and the very worn look. There appears to be no restroom and there is no place for a wheelchair. We were two and any table we would have picked you are sort of shoehorned in. It's ok for takeout but it's not the kind of place to go to eat in. Go for the food; everything else falls short. There is nothing warm about the place so if you are picking a place for a date, keep looking.
(3)Eduardo C.
Jose is the best server!! Great Panini, forget about Panera. Prices are very good and the tomato soup is just perfect.
(5)Es K.
If you like curried chicken salad, you must try the Silva Salad. The Stack grilled cheese is also an absolute with gooey brie, smokey bacon, and carmelized onions.
(4)Jennifer J.
Stopped in for lunch with mum. Salads were good, not too sure about the prices.

My husband and I went to Media's Jazz night last night and started with reservations at House. Let me just say, the food is worth the wait! I couldn't tell you how long we actually waited for our food (which was: some kind Of salad that started with a "p" $7, the mushroom Gorgonzola risotto $12, and the autumnal penne $16 - all vegetarian, btw) but we had finished off about 2/3 of the bottle by the time our food came out. But it was totally worth the wait. The salad had this amazing citrus vinaigrette that was so perfectly sweet and citrus. Plus the arugula balanced out the sweet and the shaved Parmesan added some salt to the salad. So good! The mushroom risotto was good with Gorgonzola melted it. It was perfectly gooey so as to not overwhelm the natural creaminess that risotto has. The autumnal penne was outstanding! Creamy red sauce with al dente penne seasoned perfectly with green beans finely chopped and cooked to perfection. It also had perfectly cooked cubes of butternut squash (which made the sauce itself a little creamy). The waiter was also able to give us gluten free bread upon request. It was only 2 pieces but it was gluten free. *shrugs* The other reviews are right: you will wait a long time. But the food is worth it. So don't go if you're on a schedule. Go when you can spend an evening drinking some wine (it's BYOB) and enjoying the company you're with over some thoughtfully crafted and perfectly executed original dishes!
(4)Chris B.
Really, really good little lunch spot. Can't wait to go back to try more of their menu, and the service was as good as it gets. My only complaint is that it is so small, and not very comfy to eat in. Next time, take out is the plan! Looking forward to introducing your deliciousness to my hungry belly once again!
(4)Christian B.
Sometimes you dine at a place that is so good, it makes you feel like you just want to keep it to yourself. But from all of the reviews about House, it seems the secret is out. This is by far, the most unique sandwich shop in Media, and well worth the trip there. Atmosphere - A quaint little storefront off of Jackson Street is the entrance to this little gem. Inside, is a mix of unique photography and eclectic art, along with unique items you won't find anywhere else. There is seating both in and outside, however, VERY little room for dining. Off peak dining is fine, but lunch rush you may want to plan on eating or taking out. Waitstaff - Counter help brought our food out, however, was very pleasant and recommended some good things. Really made my wife and I feel like we were at home even thought it was out first time dining there. They had a delivery come, which we had to move our tables to accommodate the size, and she provided us with on the house brownies. Great service and awesome brownies, a nice treat when we didn't feel inconvenienced. Food - Hands down amazing. I had the 'King Khan' sandwich, which was phenomenal. Crisp bread, amazing buffalo sauce, really a unique take on the sandwich with the caramelized onions. My wife had the Stilton grilled cheese and Shiva side salad. Really fresh greens and delicious paring between cheese on the sandwich made this a homerun. Came out really hot and melty, but the kind of way where you don't mind licking the fingers it's so tasty. Intangibles - Fresh teas are available in the fridge, but I went with the Joe's lemon tea. What a refreshing regionally provided treat! Highly recommended for those who appreciate quality and a very, very reasonable price. Mentioned that they do catering as well, which we'll be taking advantage of in the future. Overall - It's hard to believe I've lived in this area for a number of years and never been here, but I will be going all the time. A great treat for Delaware County residents. Remember, they close at 5pm, so much more of a lunch place then a dinner place, but this is the kind of lunch that makes the rest of your day better. House gives you the taste of home, whether you can cook or not.
(5)Vanessa B.
This is as good as it gets. Awesome food, awesome staff. I have even purchased some of the art hanging on the walls. Very intimate. (One could almost say romantic!) Love, love, love this place. Everything I have ordered has been magic. Media is very lucky to have this place!
(5)Jessica K.
House is very tasty, I love their food. I just wish they were a little cheaper. For me House is one of those places that you always think about going but you don't feel like spending the money and still leaving hungry, you rather go buy the ingredients yourself and make it at home later in the week. but don't get me wrong, this is a cute tasty place to eat!
(4)James K.
Delicious sandwiches and a great selection of homemade brewed ice teas. I look forward to their expansion as they will definitely be able to please a much larger crowd and open themselves up to a greater dine-in experience. As for now, eating in will be something I would avoid.
(5)Mary L.
Based one the reviews, I was looking forward to having dinner here. Let me first say, we were a party of 18. The service was terrible. It took up to two hours for the food to come. Some were served in a timely manner, while others watched them eat. Then the second batch of orders came out and the ones who were served first got to watch them eat. Food was mediocre and pricey, for what it was. Maybe lunch and brunch is better.
(2)Laura M.
The fall salad is absolutely delicious. Yum Yum!
(5)Ben D.
Had a nice little visit to House on a Sunday afternoon. Very small interior but we got a table. I imagine on a weekday around lunchtime they are packed and it would be hard to find a place to sit, fyi. They have some really interesting panini's. I got the "slugger" which was braised pork with kimchi slaw and white cheddar. It was delicious, and it was nice having a "fancy" sandwich of great quality and freshness without having to go into the city. Also, it was nicely sized and very filling for about $8. Very friendly staff, clean, I don't think they had a restroom but I didn't ask. Will definitely go there again
(4)sara l.
Okay, I'm going to say it... I liked the old House better. The waiter service is slowwww and the food took so long to come out. When you have a finite amount of time for lunch, House is no longer a great choice. Giving three stars for the gluten free bread... it's pretty good as far as gf bread goes. try the slugger!
(3)Amy B.
What a great little place to have lunch!! I was going to be in the area to meet an old friend and thought I would see what my fellow yelpers liked in Media. Fellow yelpers, you never let me down! The people who worked here were super nice! I ordered the Stack (double creme brie, cheddar, charred onions, and smoked bacon) and added apples. It was, in a word, amazing. My friend ordered the King Khan (spicy chicken salad, charred onions, & gorgonzola) and that also looked good. To top it off, I had a homemade cupcake that a local baker seems to make and drop off at the restaurant. I doubt I'll be back in Media anytime soon, but if I am, you better believe I'm coming back to House!
(5)Kristen S.
House has become one of our favorite restaurants. Whenever we are in Media, we go there, and often times we make a special trip just for House! The food is consistently amazing. The only con is it's a crapshoot as to whether or not you can get a table in the tiny restaurant. We solve this by getting it to go most of the time. It tastes just as delicious at home!
(5)Christine G.
A cute and sunny little sandwich shop tucked away on a side street in the quaint little town that is Media. We ordered the Southwestern sandwich and one of the specials - the Seasonal Salad. Both were delish - not in a "to-die-for" kind of way, but more like the "yeah, it's a sandwich and a salad-I ate it and now I'll be good 'till dinner" kind of way. But, it gets extra points for the clean and cozy dining area (yes, seating is very limited), the fun music that they play, and the works from local artists that adorn the walls.
(4)Julie B.
House has been my favorite sandwich shop since they opened. It makes me sad to give it one star now. The food has definitely gone down hill and I have been disappointed the past few times. My husband and I decided to give it one more chance the other day and unfortunately we won't be going back.
(1)Darien S.
This place is amazing. Been here twice, ordered a king khan sandwich first time, then the second time got their half Stack, half king khan salad with the soup of the day (tomato). Everything was excellent, you can really tell they put a lot of effort into their food, which is incredibly fresh and always delicious. Great service also, our waiter was friendly and efficient. Highly recommended for anyone who's looking for an amazing lunch, although I've heard they offer dinner now too, so I'll have to come back.
(5)Daniel B.
Excellent food in a casual, relaxed environment! I highly recommend the King Khan with the tomato soup. Can't go wrong!
(5)J M.
Such a nice addition to the media dinner scene - delicious food, simple atmosphere, right sized and reasonably priced. We loved just about everything we had - the small plates are perfect for a light meal. Especially loved the Mushroom Gorgonzola Risotto - SO delicious. And the Chai Pumpkin dessert was amazing! The chef was courteous in sending out a taste of the lobster mashed potatoes (OMG) because they were running a bit behind on the service - and we'll order that again!! Will definitely frequent again soon - but will make reservations - their new dinner service is becoming popular quickly.
(5)Nic W.
I wanted to like the new, expanded House so much more than I did. Service was mediocre at best at brunch, and everything about the experience just seemed like House is trying too hard to be hipstery-cool. The old menu (primarily grilled cheese and soup) still exists, but we ordered off the brunch menu. I had the brisket benedict, which was tasty (but needed a bit more hollandaise sauce); my husband had the french toast. He said it was okay, but the dish was tiny--two small pieces of baguette. Compared to my plate, it looked as though my husband had ordered off the children's menu.
(3)Scott F.
House is my go to sandwich shop on my lunch break. It's a bit small so don't expect seating, but if you work near by it's perfect to stop by to pick up a sandwich to-go. The staff is very friendly and the food is always made fresh! I'm going to pick up a BLT right after I finishing writing this review actually.
(4)Candice S.
I am HOUSE obsessed... working one block away is RIDIC! They serve my favorite foods fresh!! They probably see me a little too much :) I wish they would bring the fall salad back, though... it was SO good! Seriously, EVERYTHING on the menu is amazeballs. I love you, House. I dream of owning an establishment like you.
(4)Jessalyn C.
I had my first visit to House today and sincerely say I can't wait to go back. I did the pick two option for lunch today: Trio Panini and RX Salad were amazing. Everything was so fresh tasting and the portions were perfect. I left satisfied, full and not feeling weighed down by a greasy ball of overly processed food. The RX Salad was one of the best I've had in a long time and would highly recommend it. Restaurant is clean, services is friendly, the decor is very rustic chic, and the food is perfectly paced for lunch time.
(5)Sara C.
What an awesome little surprise! I had a rare day out in the 'burbs for work and stopped into House for lunch. All I have to say is - I wish I had this in the city! An intimidating list of paninis, grilled cheeses, cold sandwiches, and salads greeted me - I am terrible with making up my mind. I went for the best of both worlds and got a half sandwich, half soup deal - half of a fresh tomato, mozzarella, basil panini with balsamic and EVOO; and a cup of fresh (and I mean FRESH) tomato soup. They use Metropolitan Bakery bread and the ingredients are top-notch. The panini was toasted to perfection. My coworkers also ordered some sandwiches and salads that looked delicious. This place is tiny, so don't expect to find a table with a big group of people. There is no doubt that I will be back for this place - and make it my jumpoff for exploring the rest of Media.
(5)Anonymous G.
Went for dinner with a large party. It took over an hour for the food to come out, and because they are not computerized with the bills (handwritten) it was difficult understanding and paying the bill. I can forgive them for both those things. What I cannot forgive is the teeny portions for excessive fees. My 1 inch square of meatloaf with kale and cheddar, consisted of one piece of Kale in the middle, with a dollop of burned cheddar on top as well as burned meat. apparently it was under the broiler too long, but served as is, I guess because it was an hour in the making. It was ok, but not $19 dollars ok. The $9, 12 at most, Brussel sprouts, were ok. I've been to restaurants that can charge these prices and get away with it because the food is exquisite. This food does not rank above a mediocre diner, and the one nice waiter did not make up for the angry one. It appears breakfast and lunch are good here, but I cannot recommend dinner. Average food at best, teeny portions, and ridiculous prices.
(2)Kimberly M.
Love this place! I live about 20 minutes from Media but this is always my "go to" place. Wish they had better evening hours but I'll take what I can get!
(5)Chris O.
With House, Media finally has a nice little place to get the type of sandwich you wouldn't normally find in a deli, pizza place or hoagie shop. Boasting a small, selective menu of well crafted sandwiches, the variety isn't in the number of things you can choose to order, the variety comes in the careful preparation and interesting ingredient combinations that make up the sandwiches. Of course, if grilled cheese is your thing then this is definitely the place for you. And soup? Probably the best in the borough, all homemade, all delicious. The place is small, so bachelor/bachelorette parties should probably go elsewhere. But if you want to celebrate with yourself on that raise you just got, or the tests came back negative, then House is a great place to start.
(4)Zsiberian N.
I like. really. Harvest grilled cheese is made with aged cheddar, caramelized onions and apples. Really cool place, definitely a regular on my way to the airport. It can get crowded, and it's tiny, so don't thing you can barge in with a group larger than 4 people and get seats. It's not intended for that
(4)Kyle I.
This was my second trip to House with my wife. I'm a fool for good tomato soup and grilled cheese. This trip i veered from that intended lunch had the King Khan chicken salad sandwich. My wife had the turkey on baguette. We also had the two soups offered. They were the cream of mushrooms and tomato. The C of M was the best I've had and I'm not a huge fan of mushrooms. I dare say i like it better than the tomato. The King Khan had an appropriate amount of buffalo sauce to give it a great flavor. If i had to pick on one thing, I'd go a little lighter with the mayo on the chicken salad. The mayo and buffalo sauce make the sandwich too wet. The bread on mine was nice and crispy from the panini press. The wife's turkey was proper carved turkey, not the pressed lunch meat kind. The baguette was fresh and soft inside and crusty outside. Her tomato soup was textbook. Campbell's should sample it. The fact that a fellow Penncrest alum owns it doesn't hurt either. i love the intimate (read small) dining area. It keeps the atmosphere from getting too loud and discourages huge groups that would otherwise bog down the small staff. We had a large group of 8 or so come in after us during our first visit. If our timing had been off, we would have waited like 20-25 minutes just for the food. The only other issue I have is the hours. I live in media but cannot make it outside of the weekends. if it were just an hour or two longer during the week, I'd definitely hit it up for a quick take away dinner.
(4)Evann G.
Oh my gosh, people! You have to come here and have the butterscotch cake. Immediately! Ahhhhhhhh!!!! OK, moving on. I love this place. I wish I lived in Media so I could come here every day. They have an entire menu full of grilled cheese sandwiches. What could be better?! And they are phenomenal. Everyone singing the praises of the one with the apples in it is right-on. AMAZING. And the soup. Ohmygosh the soup! They're known for their tomato, but I tried the potato today and it was scrumptious. There's nothing better than homemade soup. But the butterscotch cake. Ummm... oh wow. I'm addicted. If you have it "for here" they'll heat it up for you on the panini grill. I can't tell you how good it was. It was so good. You'll just have to go try it for yourself. I love that this place uses local, fair trade, organic ingredients. I love that it's run by a husband and wife team and their adorable little baby. I love love love everything about it!
(5)Ashlee G.
Been here a few times and am always satisfied afterwards. I actually crave their specific sandwiches sometimes- they are that good! Salads are great as well. The only reason I am giving a 4/5 is because the last time I visited my panini was burned- not lightly burned, but burned so I had to do some scraping. I understand things happen- I burn alot of things myself but if I were making something for someone else I would definitely redo it in this case. I guess it depends on whos making the sandwiches the day you order- but every other time orders were amazing and will keep me coming back!

I was REALLY excited to try this place after the rave reviews, but I have to say I'm disappointed. I felt the food was overpriced for what it was. The house salad was so plain with hardly any walnuts, and the house dressing seems to be just olive oil and balsamic...not very special! The veg-head panini was decent, but the focaccia didn't hold up when toasted and crumbled in my hands when I was trying to eat it, creating a huge mess. I'm not sure if that's just the nature of focaccia when it's toasted, but I expected it to be softer and hold together. Out of the 2 staff members I encountered, only 1 was polite. The other just snuck furtive glances at me while making my food and then grumbled, "Excuse me," when passing by me to get something out of the fridge. Too bad.
(2)Sarah C.
House is a great place to find craft sandwiches in Media. The quality, fresh ingredients really make a difference. I only wish they were open later for dinner sandwiches! The tuna sandwich is my favorite, Italian tuna and great flavors.
(4)Lori C.
The smallest space with the biggest fans...an apt description for a place called House in Media. Literally the size of your kitchen, House offers panini, salads, soups, coffee, dessert. But the best choice is the panini...on Le Bus breads with things like homemade mayonnaise, apple wood smoked bacon, avocado and the House touch (lovingly and gently prepared by hand and delivered with a comment, compliment or casual conversation that makes you glad you live in Media.) My personal favorite is the King Kahn...chicken, hot sauce, caramelized onions and some blue cheese. It is so good I find it difficult to try the specials, despite the consistent lure of daily descriptions. You can sit outside with your dog (usually a dog bowl of water is provided) or inside...there are about six tables. Often you are treated to a sample of something special, a soup or a piece of cake, just enough to make you feel appreciated, your appetite acknowledged. Quality is consistent, full of flavor and freshness. It is casual, almost hip, very comfortable, like siting in someone's kitchen while you talk and eat. Feels like home at House.

I wanted to like this place So much. My fiance and I went for Sunday brunch and we decided to just consider the experience "brunch and a show" with the chaos we encountered. The atmosphere was bright and refreshing and we were so enthused by themenu. To their credit, they sourced the meat from humane farms and other local farms. However, the service was atrocious. It seemed the left hand had no idea what the right was doing. It took forever to get the order taken, longer to be served. Then my omelet was wrong (I almost Never send food back) it was hard to chew it was so overcooked, the cheese was the wrong type, and I just didn't like it. After a long while we were finally able to flag the server and she was clearly annoyed and tried and tried to convince me I should like it and eat it. Finally she conceded and, as expected, after a long while I got a new omelet that was sub par and the inside was jelly-like. We waited longer for the check and were brought the wrong change. I So wanted to like this place. I won't be back.

If you're the type that likes to enjoy a sandwich now and then, you might have heard the saying, "The bread makes the sandwich." Here in Philly, we're especially aware of this fact. Take the city's signature sandwhich, the cheesesteak, for example: at Tony Luke's, you get a crisp yet supple roll, the perfect canvas on which to paint the artery-clogging delight of a wiz-wit. Yet these same flavors, when served within a soggy or weak roll, are completely nullified by the poor texture. Weak roll, weak sandwich. House understands this principle better than any other panini spot I've visited. The bread on my Southwestern - two perfectly toasted, crunchy, yet forgiving slices of what tasted like a subtle sourdough - made the sandwich, plain and simple. Not to say the other flavors were merely incedental - the thick slices of fresh turkey, fresh red peppers, smoky cheddar, punchy bacon, and light and sweet chipotle roumalade all danced together to create what was pretty close to a perfect panini. The location ain't bad either. On warm, sunny days, the al fresco dining out front is something to savored. So go sit, take your panini in one hand, your Orangina in the other, and enjoy Media's House. You won't be disappointed.

The King Khan sandwich was magnificent. But if you like diet coke or other commercial beverages, you're outta luck.

I went to House with 3 friends after participating in a 5K. We found it online and the menu looked great! We got to the restaurant and were promptly seated but waited 10-15 minutes for menus (which we had to ask for). All of us ordered eggs of some variety and 2 of us also got bagels. After waiting over an hour and asking repeatedly the status of our food, we finally got it. Although everyone enjoyed the meal, it was nothing special and my one friend did not get the bacon on her bagel sandwich that she ordered. The waitress did not apologize once for the wait. We finally asked for the manager who gave the most insincere apology. She spoke over us and didn't seem to care that we were dissatisfied. She said "we cook everything to order". I would hope that eggs would always be cooked to order! I could make an omelet in 10 minutes at home. I didn't need to wait over an hour for mine. Additionally, my sister got coffee and never received milk/sugar although she asked for it. It's a shame it didn't work out because the menu was good but we will NOT be returning.

Look at my last check in. Consistent. Delicious. Creative. Comfort food on steroids!! Breakfast, lunch or dinner. Say hi to Chef Mike. He made miracles in the original kitchen that was the size of a shoe box. Now he got room to spread his wings. And he can fly. You'll love it!
(5)Leena W.
House is one of my favorite lunch spots in media! Their homemade soups are always good. Would definitely recommend if your looking for soup/salad/sandwich place.
(5)Laura W.
Delicious, incentive dishes. Spiced to perfection. Curried chicken salad, speciality soups and amazing omelets with accommodating service that was attentive. Severs seemed to be proud to work here and rightfully so. A hidden jewel in Media.
(5)Brian D.
Excellent place for lunch with a friend or on a date. A small joint with a simple yet tasteful decor. Outside dinning is available. The staff makes everything from scratch on the premise, and you can taste the difference without a long wait. I had the house salad and the King Khan Panini. The sandwich delivered a perfect blend of heat and cool flavors from the sauce and cheese. The chicken tasted amazing, much better than any chain restaurant. The salad complemented the dish well by adding a refreshing balance to the spiciness of the sandwich (note that the sandwich never felt overpowering). The blue cheese in both creates the perfect connection between both sides of the plate. You should try what I ordered or ask the staff for a recommendation; I asked them what they liked and stumbled upon this great combination. I recommend going with a party no larger than two people, unless you expect a lot of available outside seating. You may feel cramped inside with a larger group. I also stopped by in the late afternoon and the place still had half the seats filled. I would imagine a full house at noon, so I would probably avoid going exactly at twelve. All in all I loved the place. I plan to go back and bring more people with me so they can discover a new good restaurant.
(5)Tim B.
Really a surprise. Imaginative sandwiches executed extremely well, nice staff as well. A few of the sandwiches have seemed a bit overdressed to me, but still very flavorful. By any standard, a great lunch place.
(5)Allie S.
The paninis here were very fresh and tasty...You are able to mix and match, so i got halves of two different sandwiches, which i loved because it is so hard to decide on just one from their menu I got the featherweight, which is mozzarella and tomato on foccacia and it was great. I also got the jersey joe, and tweeked it alittle so it was turkey, cheddar, and apple slaw and that was also great...my sister got the harvest grilled cheese which had cheddar, apples, and grilled onions, and that one was amazing as well definitely recommend this place for the panini lover
(5)Gwen G.
Awesome, fresh and innovative sandwiches, salads and soups! I had a great chicken salad with mozzerella cheese and roasted sweet and hot peppers.
(5)W.H. F.
This is a little place that you can easily miss if you blink, but do yourself a favor and seek it out. Tiny, only a few seats. It is a husband and wife plus a friend or two type of place, but what they do they do very well! Go there. The world needs more places like this, please support them (if you like the food, of course).
(4)Marcie L.
Great fresh food! If you like somethin hot and spicy, don't miss the King Khan sandwich!! Yumm!!!
(5)Sean S.
First time there on the suggestion of a friend. I had the Shiva salad, with curry chicken, walnuts, grapes. Damn. So good. I miss it. I cried a little when it was gone. My wife had the Trio panini. She really enjoyed it too. Four stars is very high for me. Go there, eat, be happy. (Just make sure you're ok with tight spaces and, apparently, no bano).
(4)Blake F.
locally grown, fair trade, organic...oh my! ...and delicious, too! house makes working in the suburbs worth it....well, sort of. ok, not really. but it is such a treat to have this charming & tasty cafe nearby to help me break up the monotony of the work day with a freshly tossed salad, a perfectly grilled panini or a cup of one of the best tomato soups i have ever had. thank god they offer the duo/trio specials as it saves me from having to choose just one each time i go in!! the best thing about house is the freshness. just today, the owner was commenting how excited she was for spring - not because it is dreadfully cold out right now - but because of the new vegetables that would soon be available for them to begin reintroducing into their ever-changing menu. there was a short-lived "gazpacho drought" over the summer which the owner explained as being due to sub-par tomatoes. these people hold out for the good stuff, and i appreciate that. ps. i highly recommend the veg-head panini :)
(5)Natalie M.
I have very little to add that hasn't been said before, but this place is adorable and yummy. I loved my grilled cheese and the salads looked amazing too. The owner was super perky and seems to love his job and his little shop. The price is right and it's nice to have lunch at place with reasonable portions so I don't stuff myself! I'll definitely come here again!
(5)Ryan A.
Excellent lunch! The BLT, harvest grilled cheese, and the King Khan salad are amazing. Such a great menu, all artisanal and innovative offering something for the 2 year old to the 82 year old.
(5)Mike R.
I went to House and ordered a sandwich and cup of soup. Almost immediately after I ordered, I noticed an employee dip a spoon into the metal soup container, taste it, then dip the same spoon back in and taste it again. I'll never go back there again.
(1)Amy A.
This food was awesome, just wish it was a little less cramped! Great choice for delicious and fresh sandwiches.
(4)Steve M.
Great little lunch spot. Had a terrific salad and grilled cheese - A+.
(5)Ian L.
House was really quite surprising. I came for something off the wall and delicious and I got exactly that - the tasty, unique Jersey Joe Panini, perfectly done and crunchy. I've never had anything that quite tastes like it, so I was very pleasantly surprised. The portion was a little smaller than I expected, but overall an enjoyable lunch.
(4)Howard C.
Great soups and sandwiches. It's a small spot, but definitely worth the wait to get quality food. I'll be back next time I'm in the Philly area...
(5)Alicia F.
really good salads and paninis..creative and yummy. excellent customer service, and good conversation--and they're happy to discuss their salad dressing secrets. don't miss this one.
(5)B C.
I read the reviews and thought this place sounded interesting and something out of the ordinary and went for lunch. I ordered the Octoburfest panini. The table I sat at was so sticky it felt like glue. I decided to add a bowl of tomato soup to my order. The cook brought over my sandwich and soup. I saw a loose hair on my plate but dismissed that and didn't think more of it. I started to eat my soup and saw a hair emerging out of my bowl......I had to ask the cook to take it away and discretely told him about the hair, which was now turning my stomach. The sandwich was okay at best, more bread than meet and the apple chutney tasted more like just raisins. The 2-3 spoonfuls of soup I had were good but again, nothing out of the ordinary. The drink selection was terrible. I wondered if this was a bad day and should try another time and then I saw one of the (not so customer-friendly) staffers erasing the Daily Soup Board, which had a pot of soup cooking beneath it. Bad day is one thing, unsanitary habits do not deserve a 2nd chance.
(1)Kevin O.
Had the same sandwich again the other day. It's called the El Nino, and it's not guac, it's avacodo. It might have been even better the second time around. Why can't I have a place like this near my house?
(4)Mandi B.
Of all the places I've eaten in Media, this is by far my favorite I think. The first time I went, they had two, count 'em TWO, tables, it was so tiny! Most recently they've added some more tables and rearranged a little bit, but its still small and very intimate. The above comparison of sitting in someone's kitchen is highly apt. The food is always excellent, and the staff (well, the one guy I always see working there.) is extremely nice. I've yet to have any of the salads or soups there, but if they're anything like the paninis, I'm sold! The paninis are fabulous, my favorite is the Veg-Head. I'd recommend that, and this cute little place, to just about anyone!
(5)Meg e.
As a huge fan of tomato soup and grilled cheese, I can say that House is awesome. I went their the other day for the first time and had a great lunch--got the combo of 1/2 panini and a small soup. The food was really fresh and menu creative. There have a lot of different versions of the grilled cheese and I plan on coming back to try them all.
(5)Bryan M.
Watermelon gazpacho, and the King Khan(buffalo chicken salad w/ siracha and caramelized onions. You'd think that would be enough. However, on my trip to House; reading the menu left me with a hankering to cram as much into my gullet as possible. So, I had the grilled Mozzarella, with fresh tomato on foccacia. Everything was incredibly fresh. And gathering from the conversation(which is a side dish, it seems); you get the feeling that Mike adores food. Another thing I noticed, is how Mike knew every customers name who walked in. With product like his, I can see why everyone is a regular!
(5)Andy S.
I was highly impressed with House. The creativity of the menu items is a big incentive to try this little cafe. I ordered a grilled cheese sandwich with apple slices acting as the cheese's siblings inside the sandwich. The tomato soup was scintillating, the chips were something to salivate over, and the progressive cause behind the restaurant is one worth supporting. My only complaint was the time it took for the soup to come, but that pales in comparison to all the highlights of House.
(5)Michael W.
One word, perfect. I hate walking into a specialty sandwich shop or cafe, and find myself staring at a bloated, long, and utterly exhausting menu. It is at this point that I usually ask "Well what would you recommend?" This place serves a basic amount of sandwiches, all very interesting to say the least, like nothing I have seen anywhere else. Who would think a grilled cheese tasted good with apples? But now, after eating one with apples, I can't fathom having another grilled cheese without them. Why do everything okay, when you can do a few things GREAT? This should be the slogan of House, because it certainly is the way they designed their menu. The Jersey Joe, a wonderful panini on artisan rye bread. Crisp, fresh, delicious. The key to any sandwich is the bread, and House make's sure to use only the freshest locally baked bread (From a bakery whose name escapes me at the moment). The tomato soup is freshly made, with real organic tomatoes, served steaming hot. The place is literally a hole in the wall, but very cozy, especially on a cold, wet day. I wouldn't call it House, it's more like Home, because you feel right at home when eating there. The gentleman who served us was extremely gracious and courteous, and I could tell he was very proud of the work they were doing there. Small business pride is something that gets lost in the monstrosity of the big chain restaurants. What else can I say? This place rules.

In Swarthmore they're very few options for really good food. When we looked on yelp to find a place hardly any held a rating of 4 or greater. However, this place is a great exception. We ordered split pea soup which was excellent and spices perfectly. I split the roasted chicken with potato smash and green beans and it was delicious. The chicken was moist and the mash potatoes and veg had just the right amount of seasoning to complement the entree as a whole. For dessert we splurged and tried the butterscotch cake. It was so good. The richness of the cake contrasted with the airy whipped cream it was served with made for a scrumptious combination. All in all, the portions sizes were just right. I was able to split both the chicken entree and the dessert and feel completely that I had enough to eat. I would definitely come back. Ps maybe it's just me but I really appreciate when I can observe a restaurant's visible effort to establish an inviting and elegant atmosphere and this place definitely does.

Went here for brunch yesterday with a party of 5 and it was really delicious. They have a brunch menu, but the regular menu is available as well. My one small complaint is that during brunch you can't do the regular lunch combination where you can pick a soup, salad, and sandwich. A few of us were interested in this option and it would have been nice if it were available. However, the food was really very good. Everyone got something different and besides a few home fries that no could find room for, everyone cleaned their plates. There were a lot of interesting options and the food came out fresh, hot and delicious. Service was great. We will definitely be back!
(4)Aurora C.
We have only done take out from House, so I can't review the service other than that they are really nice on the phone and have our food ready promptly. The food here is really good if you're in the mood for a delish sandwich. Love their paninis.

Well, I went to house this morning (7/5/2015). I'm feeling a little uncomfortable about writing this review please stop if you are squeamish or eating. I ordered the classic grilled cheese and tomato soup. Food tasted fine but I started to feel ill immediately. We were seated by the bathroom which was occupied the whole time, perhaps by a fellow diner similarly affected. I started sweating profusely and excused myself while my girlfriend paid the bill. My innards felt like they were occupied by hive of fiery snakes who had eaten tainted sandwiches/soup. I stood by my car which was parked across Baker St. The car was framed perfectly in the restaurants window from where I was previously seated. Service was slow with the bill and I could not wait. This slow service later saved my girlfriend from seeing that which can not be unseen. I had moments to make a decision or one would be explosively made for me. As a man of action, knew that action must be (shamefully) taken. I backed up the car so I was not directly in window and SHIT IN A TARGET BAG IN MY CAR. I saw another man leave the restaurant and wedge himself between two cars in a furtive manner. I assume he also had food poisoning. Sorry pizza place next door's dumpster I have nothing against you. PS the interior looks like it was done on some bad early 2000s home renovation show and never changed. Could have been inspired by TV show "friends".

Sooooo, I finally went back to House after having not been there since probably 2011. It was also the last time I will be going there, because it has definitely changed, and it is NOT for the better. My daughter and I stopped in around 11 or so last weekend for brunch... After waiting maybe 10 minutes for a table (which wasn't bad), we then sat and waited. And waited. And waited some more for our food to come out, and when it finally did (45 minutes to an hour later), it was not at all what we were expecting! As mentioned in some of the other reviews, the House Salad which sounds so good on the menu was really lacking in flavor and was mostly lettuce. It came with a few slices of good bread thank goodness, although we did have to ask for butter. The huevos that I ordered made me want to cry, because I have loved the ones I've gotten at other restaurants and was sorry to see such a sad excuse for them placed in front of me. The huevos that I am used to have consisted of two fried eggs served with flour tortillas, rice, beans, salsas/sauces, and some cheese and a sprinkling of cilantro. House's consisted of two fried eggs on a handful of tortilla chips with a tiny amount of cheese melted on them, with a small scoop of guacamole. If I wanted tortilla chips and fried eggs, I would have just stayed home and made it myself. Along with the disappointment from the food and service, the place is just pretty uncomfortable now. They enlarged the space some years back, but it's really just not big enough for the amount of tables they have in there. My daughter sat pressed against the wall the whole time and was just uncomfortable with how close the family next to us was sitting (as was I). After that family left, the servers separated the two little tables that they had been sitting at so that the next people that came in were even closer to us! I literally had to turn sideways to get out of the little corner that I was in. Thank God I am on the skinny side!!! Anyway, sad to say that we won't be going back. I much preferred when they were smaller and had counter service and nice tattoed people running the place. :(

My wife and I stopped by for a quick lunch. We were not disappointed. My wife has been several times before but this was my first. Highly recommended for quick wholesome food.

Had an excellent meal at house last night for my birthday. Started off with their bread service. This was excellent, especially the accompanying rosemary garlic butter. Next tried the tomato soup and grilled cheese. Despite popular opinion, I was not blown away by the soup. It was better than canned soup, but not by leaps and bounds. I found it slightly too acidic and lacking a complexity of flavor. Likely could have used a dollop of creme fraiche and some basil. The grilled cheese with brie was good. Of course, it's Brie. And that did indeed balance out the soup a bit with its earthiness. For main course, the Rosemary Chicken was phenomenal. Super tender, perfectly crisp on a bed of beautifully seasoned garlic mashers and spinach. Perfect portion size. It was a small quarter chicken with breast and leg. The service was excellent. Our server was quick and attentive. He was happy to answer a few questions we had about the menu. The ambience was fantastic. This place is really cozy, had lots of windows, and is romantically lit. They played a cool mix of smooth chill relaxing lobby music along with some current hits. This was one of the coolest places I've ever been. It wasn't hipster or pretentious. Just cool. I don't award five stars unless a restaurant provides food and an environment that I feel I couldn't replicate at home. Being a fairly adequate cook myself, this is a fairly stringent standard. House receives five stars from me for its excellent cuisine and well-considered romantic/casual ambience. I highly recommend.

I've always heard great reviews of this place, but looking at their menu, I could never find anything that was quite my taste. One day I called them to see what their soup was, and it turns out it was one of my favorites, potato soup! I ordered a small to go and was delighted to see that they included 2 pieces of freshly sliced french baguette. The soup was the perfect size and heartiness, and the bread was a perfect ending to scooping up the last of the soup in the container. I would absolutely have their soup again and be willing to try a little something else on the menu!
(5)Laura F.
I ate here with a party of 7. We were looking for somewhere new that would please several different palates, and this place had great reviews. It ended up being a very good choice! The menu is not huge, but has a variety of options. They have soups, salads, sandwiches, and entrees. I ordered the quinoa and sweet potato pancakes, which I found out later are vegan. The food came out and was beautifully presented, especially what I ordered. It had pickled beets on top which made the dish very colorful. It was extremely delicious and offered a full culinary experience. I have never eaten anything like it before. It will definitely be a meal I will remember for a long time. I also got a taste of the crab mac n cheese and the chicken cheesesteak, and both were very good. I would highly recommend this restaurant and will definitely return.
(5)Marilyn B.
I've gone back twice. Brunch: good food but service should be better. It's still not House's strong point. In fact, the day we went for brunch, one of their employees who was off duty also came to eat brunch with a friend. She jumped in a little to refill water and such. Come on, if your off duty employees see the slowness and under staffing, why doesn't management and why doesn't it change? I will say that House has addressed many of the issues that I raised in my first review. Husband and I returned this Friday and called a little ahead for reservations. We got seated at that same table where we sat last winter. Sigh. Better tables were available. House now describes the King Kahn Panini. It's chicken. Thank you for adding dish descriptions. They added a lovely drape between the entrance and the dining area that blocks cold intrusion. Plus the heat was pumped up when we arrived. Two vegetarian entrees: risotto and penne. Disappointed that vegetarians are stuck with pasta and rice. Waiting for restaurants to realize that the risotto ship has sailed (but House's risotto is creamy and delicious as it should be). Wish that the brussels and bacon had a vegetarian option but it's all cooked together in bacon fat. Our waiter at dinner was very warm.
(4)Rob C.
Great place for lunch or brunch-- we will try dinner soon. Staff very friendly and on top of the meal. Can't go wrong with simple sandwiches, soups and traditional breakfast courses. Well worth a visit!
(4)Tim V.
Great, simple spot right off the main drag of State Street--the kind of place I want to see more of in Media. Wife and I went for the BYOB dinner and were serious impressed! I ordered the coffee-crusted pork tenderloin and my wife got the meatloaf--both delicious. ONLY ding for me was the almost non-existant decor and atmosphere. That in my mind is the ONLY thing holding this place back from being a five star. check them out!
(4)Denise K.
Great concept and the food was pretty good. The staff was incredibly courteous. The wait for the food was a little long. I had the tofu scramble which was very tasty but a little watery. We also got the breakfast burrito which was delicious but meant to be vegetarian but had a bacon flavor (but no actual bacon). Wondering if they cooked it in the same place? This could be a concern for vegetarians. Also there didn't seem to be free refills on the iced tea which I have never experienced! The decor was very cute.
(3)Kim G.
Great spot for brunch. Food is fresh and tasty. I will say that I was not impressed by the wait. There is always a ridiculously long wait to get in and I'm not sure if the food is really worth the time it takes to get a table.
(4)Valerie F.
Cute little lunch nook in media. Came here for a girls lunch one thursday and we really enjoyed the place. It is a bit small and the tables are close together but it gives it a very quaint feel. It was perfect for a casual lunch and they had a nice variety of soups, salads and sandwiches. I had the buffalo chicken panini (I forget the name of it) and it was very delicious and the tomato bisque which I didn't love but I'm picky about tomato bisque. The girls I was with enjoyed their sandwiches and soups and we shared the pound cake for dessert, yum!
(4)Mike C.
Went to House for brunch on Sunday Pros: -Really friendly waitstaff -Awesome, varied brunch AND lunch menu options during those hours -BYO for those that partake -Food is priced well and tastes pretty good. Specifically the house salad was refreshing, especially for $5. The eggs benedict was cooked perfectly. However the potatoes that came with it were cold and the hollandaise sauce was just alright, after being told it was amazing by the staff. -Gluten Free options, as is they will sub any breaded products with a slice of Udi's and be conscious of it. However, when the house salad came out it did have 3 pieces of regular bread right on the plate even after acknowledging the allergy, which was a little odd. Cons: -SLOWNESS. This is biggest reason this is only a 3 star rating. The wait for a salad was 35 minutes, the wait for two eggs benedict after that was an additional 25 minutes. Its pretty unacceptable, and sadly the staff didn't even acknowledge that or have any reasonable excuse, or a BS one for that matter. It was not just our table, but everyone around us experience similar wait times. -Seating is cramped and a bit awkward for most parties Overall, I would probably give this place more one more chance to see if its less of a wait, but I know if I had anything to do in the immediate future I would not even gamble on it.
(3)Shelby B.
Stopped in here for the first time today for lunch. This place is adorable & plays great music. The staff is more friendly than any restaurant staff I've ever experienced. Their food is fresh & delicious. I got the potato soup & a half of the Trio panini (spinach, mozzarella, tomato, evoo, and balsamic dressing). It was perfect, filling, and very cheap! (and the food was at our table in less than 10 minutes!) I will definitely go back - I want to try their brunch. But for now, it's my new favorite lunch spot.
(5)Will B.
I live in Media and have resided there for the past 4 years. House is BY FAR my favorite restaurant in town. The food is exceptional and the atmosphere is delightful. I don't know much about women, but I do know this...women love brunch. Take your lady (or fella) here for brunch and they'll love you forever. Furthermore, I highly recommend the AM burrito. Perfect for hangovers. As for those patrons complaining about the wait staff and service time, you can go blow it out your ass. All of the employees are running around, doing the best they can. House is getting increasingly popular and it's not their fault that you have to wait an entire three minutes for your coffee.
(5)Joyce R.
The food is worth the wait. Sunday brunch during the rush meant we had to wait about 1/2 hour for food, but it was definitely worth it. Local produce &a eggs made a perfect frittata and the "Slow Brisk" was wonderful with perfectly cooked meat, eggs and the like. Receptionist has, sometimes, a bit of a 'tude but get past her to the friendly and efficient waitstaff and owner, and you're golden.
(5)Chelsea C.
I used to live down the street from House and was there on a regular basis. I haven't been in a few years but used to love their sandwiches. The staff was so nice and it was a great place to grab a quick lunch.
(5)Nori H.
Tomatoes were pale and chalky; squash apparently meant zucchini (crazy out of season; also bland). Insult to injury, it's BYO. Was okay, but disappointing. Definitely not 4.5 stars.
(3)Jorja M.
We knew it was a gamble--brunch on Sunday before a 3:00 pm MediaTheater performance but the hostess said only a 1/2 hour wait when we arrived at 1pm. We didn't get seated until 2 and despite telling the waitress we were time constrained we waited until almost 2:30 for our food. The waitress never apologized or even came by to give us an update except when we flagged her down. When finally served, the toast was cold and rock hard (extra charge for toast) with the house omelet. The house omelet had very little inside and tHe pulled pork on the enchilada frittata was skimpy. At this point--they only serve til 3 pm--the crowd was slowing down. Don't get me wrong, I formerly loved this place (2 other visits). Don't think I'll be back soon!
(2)Sara L.
First off, let me clarify that I grew up in Media and I remember when my dad got his hair cut where the first desk is now. I also remember when it was a tea room that was just lovely. But now that it's House... well, i wish i had gone there sooner. I don't get lunch in Media ever because, well, have you been to Media during the day? But I have been for Dinner and Brunch. The food for dinner was unreal good. Smaller (READ: REASONABLE) portions, delicious food. If you are in a rush, this may not be the place for you. Sometimes the staff is a little kookie. The ambiance is wonderful. But the reason i keep going back, and i am being 100% serious, is the music. Let me explain. I am 33 years old. I was born in 1980. I was a teen through the 90's and a weird one at that. I was (and still am) a music lover. This place plays the oddest but best 90's weird alt music. It isn't loud. If you weren't listening for it, you wouldn't notice. But it's there, and it's awesome. I've tried to tell someone every time I'm there, while I'm on my way out, that i come for the food, but i stay for the music. But no one is ever there when I'm leaving :( My husband is a vegetarian, and there are some nice dinner selections for him. The staff, as previously mentioned, is a little kookie. One night the hostess rang up my card wrong, so she re-rang it, but did the math wrong. Tipping fixed it, but still, it was odd. The service isn't fast for dinner. But it isn't painfully slow. The tables are close to each other, and it is filled with Swarthmore and Media "elite". So brace thyself. But the food? Awesome. Go and try it, if nothing else, it's thoroughly entertaining.
(5)Kerri M.
I have been here several times now for dinner, and the food is fresh and high quality. They utilize local ingredients, and I often find myself trying vegetables I have never tried before. The deserts I have tried are also delicious. The service is top notch, especially Brian! I highly recommend this place
(5)Katie B.
I always find that the food here is very tasty, but it takes a while to come out. Also, last time I was at house I asked the waiter a couple questions about the menu and he had no idea any of the answers. I simply asked if I could get the "you pick two" that's offered at lunch for dinner. He didn't know the answer. The thing about house that makes me the most angry is definitely the hours. They have the strangest hours!!! If you want to go to house at 3 o'clock for lunch it's normally always closed. The last 3 times I've tried to go it wasn't open so naturally, I stopped trying.

We had the most remarkable experience at House. Supremely attentive, nuanced service. The kind of service that only exists in white-glove exclusive restaurants. Service that shows you what happens when the server does this as a profession, rather than a job. What a treat. Faithful Dining Companion and I ducked into House on a rainy afternoon for lunch. We admit this was chosen over some other Media restaurants because there was a parking spot right in front. Yeah, we can be shallow. It was nice to come into a bright, clean, very beige-and-bare-wood with some cool accents place on a dreary day. This place looks like Crate & Barrel at the Beach. Faithful Dining Companion got the Shiva salad, I ordered a bowl of chili and the King Khan salad. Many happy noises were made about the Shiva salad, and the chili was all kinds of yum. I didn't care for the King Khan salad, though it wasn't the fault of the restaurant. It was I am certain magnificent for what it was, plenty of meat, creamy sauce served on a bed of greens. It's just that the greens themselves had a bitter finish, something the haute cuisine set enjoy but I do not. Now here's the amazing part. Our server, Jose, noticed that I was picking around and at the salad. I did NOT fuss (FDC can back me on this). I didn't even mention to FDC that I did not enjoy the bitter greens. He just, well, observed. He came, asked me if I was enjoying the meal, I said it was fine, he probed, I confessed, he immediately offered me something else, took it off the bill, and refused to take 'no' for an answer when I insisted it was my palate, not the salad itself, that was the problem. For the service alone in this case I'd give it 5 stars. Having said that, the food was awesome, so this is an easy call.

First time here. I really liked this place. Great selection of sandwiches panninis and salads. Try the tomato soup too very good. Small but nice feel. The servers are very nice too. Can't wait to come back and try it again!

I had high expectations of this place, and unfortunately was disappointed. We were sat in a corner near a dirty windowsill with three flies flying around. There is a lot of potted plants and flowers in soil, but they are not maintained and lacked any reason to be there. Food was good, but expensive. $10 for eggs, bacon and toast. The waiter got part of our order wrong, but was apologetic and took care of it immediately. Not sure we would return.

I came here for lunch, and the menu offered panini, grilled cheese, soup, salad, and cold sandwiches. The coolest thing about the menu is that you can order your sandwiches in halves. This came in handy when I was stuck between a grilled cheese and a panini, and the waitress said that I could get half of each! I think that this should be standard in sandwich shops! The sandwiches were good (how can you go wrong with melted cheese?) but not amazing. I had bacon on one half and it was definitely undercooked. I would definitely return on a rainy day when I am really in the mood for grilled cheese and tomato soup.

35 minutes for a cheese panini and a bowl of soup to get to the table! If you can't handle a normal lunch crowd you might need to rethink things.

I could eat the Jackson sandwich daily- panini style with ham, cheese and caramelized onions. And the tomato soup has been awesome at times, although it can be hit or miss and I don't think they are consistent with the recipe. I usually get the meal to go, perhaps this is why the soup is inconsistent?

Went here for a "quick" lunch, and while it turned out not to be very quick, it was pretty good. I had a southwestern sandwich, which was good, but all the inside goodness was jammed into the center, leaving the edges fairly bland. Also, love the new expansion! Last time I walked in and right back out because there was no place to sit. Much better now!

We went for lunch on a busy Saturday. After forgetting about us for a while, someone came to take our order. The kitchen was terribly busy, so our server brought us a little something to nibble on which was very good. Everything we ordered was delicious and hot when it came to the table. They do brunch of Saturdays and Sundays, which was also delicious. Unfortunately out of the tomato soup, but I traded some of my grilled cheese for some of my husband's brunch brisket. Both were very good. Definitely recommend skipping the busy times. Either call ahead or go first thing when they open. Our service was slow because it was so busy! Great place, can't wait to go back!

We have gone for lunch and always loved the food. Were hesitant to go for dinner, but BOY were we amazed! The food and the eclectic atmosphere was a wonderful way to celebrate my husband's bday! FOOD WAS AS GOOD AS IT GETS!! And our server, Brian was wonderful! We will definitely go back! Paulette and Randy

I was expecting better. They sat my friend and I by the window with two flies flying around us the entire time. I ordered the 9th street omelet and the sausage wasn't sautéed or browned. The omelet was bland and lacked flavor. The service was great. They kept refilling my water and coffee. I would go back again and order something different.

This is the ultimate casual lunch spot. This is the kinda lunch spot that John Cusack takes his cute love interest in the 2nd act and finally wins her over despite the embarrassing thing he did earlier in the film. Still with me? No? Whatever, I'll go on anyways. If you want some intense casual lunch. This is the spot. With glorious creative takes on grilled cheese and an amazing penchant for delicious paninis, I wish that House would move out of Media and into my office. The King Khan panini is very good and just tastes so damn fresh. The tomato soup is good, but I do believe it is not the greatest tomato soup in existence. Damn. I am getting hungry just thinking about their menu.

So disappointed by our recent experience at House. Both food and service were WAY lacking. It was my 2d time there - the first was with a group of 7 friends about a month ago, when we shared small plates and a few entrees (all were good but the sweet potato gnocchi which were chewy and awful - TraderJoes frozen are light years better!). But I digress..... Back to my most recent dinner with hubby.... Arrived on a busy Friday night for our 7:30 reservation for 2 and were seated by about 7:45. Had wine opened (byob is a plus!) and bread on the table by about 8, and ordered right away. Our waitress asked if we wanted bread with olive oil, to which we enthusiastically said Yes! -- but she instead brought butter, mumbling that the kitchen was serving it with butter tonight (ok, strange, but we barely blinked, not realizing this was a sign of more oddness to come). We ordered right away: 2 salads, meatloaf for me and pork loin for him. The salads (mine was arugula, his was the house) arrived within 15 minutes or so and were very good- not large portioned by any standard, but fresh, perfectly doused with homemade dressing. After they were cleared, we waited for about another 45 minutes -- it was now almost 9:00 --until the entrees came, without any visit from our waitress. We finally flagged her down and asked her to check on our orders, and bring more bread - this time it came out with an herbed olive olive! About 5 minutes later she brought the food. My meatloaf (mixed with kale) was not a "loaf" slice, but fell apart, more like shepards pie in texture. I didn't mind the texture because the taste was really good, but it was unevenly heated, with hotspots and cold (yes, cold) spots, as though it came right from the microwave. When i complained, the manager/host assured me the restaurant doesn't even own a microwave. Well congratulations for simulating a microwave's failings. Hubby liked his dish. I just can't understand why the food we ordered would take so long to prep and bring out - the pork and meatloaf obviously had to be pre-prepared. Guess their timing was way off. To their credit, they offered free dessert, and when we declined they took $10 off the bill. House has some major kinks to work out. Overall, it wasn't worth the wait, and we're not likely to return (at least on a busy night).

Best food! BLT is the BOMB!!! Even better staff. I always leave a fat tip $$$$$. The team is so amazing they keep me coming back.

Came here for Saturday brunch with family. Got there early so plenty of sunny seats inside. Decor is very quaint and homey (go figure!). The coffee is from Bean and Burlap and very good. The food was fresh and very, very good. There's also outdoor seating which is fun. Probably the premiere brunch spot in Media and one you can take your parents or date to in confidence.

I do like the food here quite a bit. There are plenty of delicious options to suit nearly every taste or dietary need. However, every time I go I always end up waiting for an eternity - this applies for either take out or dine in. The food may be yummy but the wait times, and poor service (not unfriendly, but generally not very 'together') leaves me a little salty. Overall, if you have plenty of time to kill, and don't mind correcting your order once or twice perhaps, you'll be sure to have a tasty meal. Under my every day circumstances, I would have to say this doesn't fit my lifestyle.

My boyfriend was visiting from out of town, and having been disappointed by other local breakfast offerings, we decided to try House. Our meal was DELICIOUS. I ordered the Full Monty, which was French toast with melted swiss cheese, bacon and sriracha maple syrup to pour over the top. My boyfriend ordered the brisket with poached eggs and home fries. The brisket was so tender and flavorful. The bottomless coffee was also delicious, and our server friendly and efficient. House has become my new favorite dining establishment.

I honestly don't know why I've been to House more than once in my life. Pass up on the salads because they sprinkle the ingredients so lightly that you question whether they think the meal is for a baby or a small field mouse. Mostly lettuce. I got the winter salad last time (2014) and they forgot the almonds. I asked the waiter and he was all "no, there's no almonds on your salad". Ten minutes later he comes back and is like "OH I'm sorry you're right, I will bring them out". Dude, we were already done our meals by the time they came out! I went again a few weeks ago with a friend that wanted a Jersey Joe. That sandwich's main feature is so totally the bacon! All right, I admit, its a good panini with the bacon and the cheese all greasy and delicious. Too bad when the order came out, the cook forgot to add the bacon. Seems the waiter was confused at the request for the bacon when she called him over. LEARN the menu! It really works out better that way kids! The baked potato wedges were pretty sloppy and covered in oil. I wouldn't get them again. Atmosphere is a plus, I really like the new layout and the simple design. I don't know what the kitchen looks like though. I hope gloves are worn. Cheers!

Delicious soup & sandwich on lovely bread & Friendly service. Would go back for sure!

House now serves dinner and weekend brunch in addition to lunch. The dinner "tapas" menu is every bit as good as any restaurant in the City of Philadelphia bringing exquisite food to Media at bargain pricing, The squash bread pudding with mushroom sauce and green beans may be the best dish ever created. The salmon with risotto is absolutely perfect. It's a BYOB with both inside and outdoor seating. Perfect for date night, or a dinner with a group. Priced so well that it's perfect every day of the week!

I had jury duty in downtown Media, and with a 90-minute lunch break, my options were plentiful. Gorgeous day, so I walked into this place since I wanted a quiet place to sit outside. Plus, I digged the name. I was salivating over their menu of paninis and salads that were made to order. The soup of the day looked refreshing! I ordered the watermelon gazpacho, topped with goat cheese and mint and also their house salad with apples, walnuts, and blue cheese. I was uber stoked. Inside the restaurant was pretty small, so luckily I scored one of the two tables outside. It's off a side street, but it still allowed some much-needed people watching. The soup and salad was the perfect combination for lunch. Soup was chilled, and the mint added a nice coolness for which I savored. The salad had just enough "stuff" that wasn't overbearing. If you're in the area, then you must visit House! Very fresh and very, very good!

Had a very good lunch at this little place in Media. The Stack grilled cheese was excellent and the King Khan salad was fresh, crisp and had tons of turkey. The turkey was $2.00 extra, but the salad is only $8, so its not like they're ripping you off. Salads like this at other places around MainLine would be $15. They have Joe Tea which I love and the root beer was also good. It's small so get there early. The service was pleasant and timely. Really good place for lunch, but it lacks a little on space and decor so not sure about dinners. They take all credit cards and parking is all around the area.

House is my favorite sandwich shop. There are a few favorites that keep me coming back. The el Nino is awesome and so is the triple threat when it is on the menu. They also have excellent soups. Great - now I'm hungry

Our brunch experience was awful. Obviously the cook does not know what he is doing. It is simply eggs, would suggest staying home or going somewhere else.

House is amazing and quickly becoming my favorite staple. Meaning I eat there weekly. The menu selection is great, the quality of ingredients and preparation is consistently good. Love their grilled cheese sandwich selection and their Meatloaf is awesome!

I had dinner there this evening. The food was delicious , the server was friendly and polite, the hostess was charming. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for great food and nice ambiance...Oh and they do play great music.

Yummmm! This place has great food! Always good service. Weekends are a long wait but worth it. If you are not looking for your typical run of the mill sandwich shop this is the place to go. Recently has their potato soup and honestly it was the best I have ever tasted. Split a sandwich with my niece and it was plenty. Go here you won't be disappointed. And very happy that they expanded so you can actually sit in there and eat.

Food and service is always amazing. Featherweight panini is heaven. Owners are there alot and they know their regulars by face and name. Best raspberry iced tea I've ever had. One trip and you'll be hooked. Trust me.

In a word, fabulous. I saw them on yelp when I was looking for a place for dinner and decided to gave them a try, I am glad that I did. When I went it was around 7 on a Saturday night, they were not what I would define as busy, but there were a few tables full. The person I was with saw the menu and was hesitant at first. I decided to get the pot pie, and she decided to get the mushroom risotto. (they were both on the small plates portion of the menu) The wait was a bit longer then we expected but well worth it.they give you just the right amount of food. To finish off a great meal, we ordered their apple cobbler to share. The apple cobbler was amazing. When the check came we were expecting to pay a lot more then we did, the whole meal was about $45.(including tip) I can't wait to go back again.

This place is great! There are an assortment of delicious paninis, grilled cheeses, and cold sandwiches. I got the pork with kimchi and cheese panini, which is just delicious. Their food does not come with sides, however all of the sandwich options are quite large. They also sell sides, and their $4 hummus plate was fantastic. Lots of delicious, creamy hummus and large slices of crusty bread - you can ask for more bread, at no charge. The location is delightful, too, with lots of growing plants and natural light for decoration. A perfect lunch spot with great service, wonderful food, and fair prices.
