Almost twenty years ago, the best bagel you could get in Media was a "restaurant style" Lender's bagel from the Market Cart. But gone is the Market Cart and gone is the need to find breakfast in a freezer case. Custom Bagels are simply the best bagels in Media. Now, that doesn't say much since Media only has one bagel place (we will not include Manhattan Bagels as that is technically not in the borough.) So to explain how really good they are...let's just say that a stale Custom Bagel is probably better than someone else's fresh bagel. They are kettle boiled, made fresh each day and offer seasonal flavors as well as the tried and true classics. Featuring Boar's Head meats and cheeses and an array of homemade sides, salads and more, the space is small and full. You can eat in (or outside in good weather) but most choose to take their goodies home. A favorite: Custom Bagel bagel dog. There is nothing like it. If you have been fooled into thinking that Auntie Anne's or Pretzel Boy's has a unique snack, a pretzel dog, you have had the dough pulled over your eyes. There is not much better than a bagel dog. As funny looking at it is, once you sink your teeth into it, you can't help but eat the entire thing... I recommend the spicy mustard. I have had requests to bring them as far as Boston to friends who, having only visited once or twice, can't forget about their bagel dog experience in Media. Beware, they are closed on Sunday. Get your weekend bagels by Saturday morning!

Mostly outside of New York, if you want good bagels, you have to settle for some kind of crappy bread-like thing that happens to be in a round shape. These bagels, on the other hand, are the real deal. Plus cheap.

Custom Bagels is located in the heart of Media. It's a beautiful little town in my opinion. I drove about an hour and a half just to go here and experience some great bagels. I wasn't disappointed. I ordered a sandwich and a baker's dozen for the road. There are a lot of bagels to choose from. I was really hoping that they'd have Asiago cheese because that is my favorite type, but they didn't. I'm not sure if they have seasonal bagels or bring in new flavors occasionally since this was my first time. I do know that there was a variety of fresh coffee flavors to choose from. In addition, there's a lunch menu if you come in later in the day. The service was fast. The only thing that was a little confusing was that the coffee cream was in the bottom of the fridge with the drinks, not in a carafe near the rest of the coffee items. In addition, there is metered parking as with most places in Media--no fault of Custom Bagel's. There are take-home menus if you wish to familiarize yourself with the offerings before entering the store. I will definitely be back here. It's well worth the extra 15 minutes that I drive past their chain-store competitors.

Love this place. The only reason I didn't give it five stars is because it's not open on Sundays. Everything I've gotten there has been great. From there tomato bagels to the honey walnut cream cheese, this place can't be beat. Definitely my favorite bagel place in the Media area.

For all of the things Philly does well when it comes to cuisine, it is damn near impossible to find a good bagel here. Sure, we're less than 2 hours away from the bagel mecca of the world, New York, but we might as well be in the dessert when it comes to the enigmatic, doughy, indescribably delicious delicacy which seems to be restricted to the 5 boroughs. The shop itself is modest by any standards, not even residing on the main strip of beautiful downtown Media. Once inside, the bagels are resting in peach baskets attached to the wall. My favorites are the pumpernickel and rye. My goodness, they are heaven. I recently got a pumpernickel bagel from Whole Foods a few days after having Custom Bagels- it was a sad, pathetic imitation. What makes them so delicious? I really dont know, to be honest. They just ARE. Maybe it is the water, maybe it is the flour, maybe the it is the magic dust sprinkled into every batch. I could explain that the crunchy outside and chewy, doughy, warm (yes, they are that fresh) inside is what makes it great, but it is more than that. if you love bagels, you have to go to Custom Bagels in Media.

About time I write a review of this place that I have been going to for the past 15 years. The food is excellent, best bagels I have ever had anywhere in the country. They are made fresh daily on premises. Extremely nice staff, very reasonable prices, and by far the best breakfast place around!

Best sandwiches ever! If I could get one every day I would. I always order ham & swiss with pickles and spicy mustard on a plain bagel. It's always packed with fresh thinly sliced lunch meat and a fresh bagel. Staff is very friendly, and coffee is good too!

These are by far the best bagels in Southern Delaware County -- an area dominated by chain bagel stores that are really sandwich joints masquerading as authentic bagel stores. The quality of the bagels rival those at yelp.com/biz/new-york-ba… . There is limited seating, including some modest yet functional chairs and tables along the store front under the awning. Aside from their baked goods, they also have a really nice selection of entrees, including pasta, egg and tuna salads. Their fruit salad is very nice too -- comprised of a nice mixture of ripe, seasonal berries and melons. The one thing I'm not terribly impressed with is their coffee, but that's quite forgivable given that they do everything else so well.

Bagels here are outstanding, just as good as in the big city. Great variety. You can get it with egg, cheese, bacon/sausage/porkroll and they make the egg fresh in the back, not that freezer drawer crap or PWE. Highly recommend this place for breakfast or taking home a few dozen. The best flavors sell out fast so get there early.

OK, I did move here from NYC but man this is one sad excuse for a bagel shop. I also agree with Matt...WTF, not open on Sundays?????

Hands down the best bagels outside of New York. My only reason for not 5-star is twofold: First, their lack of soy or non-dairy products for those of us who are completely lactose intolerant. As well, their juices are Minute Maid by Coca Cola which are 90% high fructose corn syrup, which in my book is akin to drinking rat poison. Please ditch these! We went there for breakfast and even chatted with the owner. My partner's daughter had recommended it as one of her high school teachers had cinnamon sugar bagels specially made for the class. Damn they are good! And eager to please. Their sundried tomato and basil bagels are the rage. I had one breakfast bagel with egg, cheese and lox. I wanted another one. My partner had a bacon egg cheese on whole wheat which also was to die for. We'll be back. Again and again....

The best REAL bagels in Delaware County are found at Custom Bagels.

I finally found it. Finally, I have a bagel place that is truly worthy to replace the departed Bagel Bin in my heart. These bagels are close to NY style. The bacon egg and cheese on a sesame bagel I had today was so good, I pretty much ignored the outside world as I ate it. And on top of that, they had a coffee that was called a Sweetheart blend. It is sweeter than most coffees. I dug that too. I wish they were closer to my ride to work, but I might have to take detours more often.

Awesome cream cheese and lox bagel with red onion and tomato. Next time I'll ask for the bagel toasted and with extra onion. Yum!

So I used to go to Custom Bagels almost everyday during my work week and get the same exact thing each time. I finally realized that depending on who rings you up, you'll get charged differently for your meal. It was literally ranging from a few cents to dollar differences each time. Think about going there almost 5 days a week, and paying ranges of differences, you're getting screwed out of a lot of money. While I clearly love the food, I just took a stand and stopped going there. I really loved the stuff there, but it was about the principle of it all. I recently went back after 2 years of my boycott, just to grab a bagel for breakfast or what not, but it still really bothers me.

This place is awesome. Fast, friendly service, and vegetarian options.
(5)Lindsay V.
I was buzzing through the area and have been dying for a lox bagel sammich, so I stopped in here. I ordered the lox bagel (with onions and cream cheese) on a wheat everything bagel. I forgot to ask for it to be toasted, so that's my own fault. The girls behind the counter were super nice and got my order together quickly. I can't sing the praises of their everything bagel enough. It was perfectly chewy, just salty enough, and I now dream of it every morning. If I lived down the street, I'd probably turn into a bagel. I definitely need to stop back in and get a dozen bagels for any reason that I can think of.
(4)Bruce K.
Popped in for a dozen to bring to my customer instead of the usual donuts. It was a good choice - these are quality bagels. Maybe a little more doughy than I prefer but the selection was good, the taste was excellent and the quality was great. 12 bagels, 2 tubs of cream cheese = $16. Street parking is tough but if you can be in and out quickly (I was) then you're fine.
(4)Chelsea M.
The bagels are amazing, and so are the sandwiches. Of course you can customize your order haha. It's a cute little family friendly spot. Most importantly their customer service is GREAT! I had called on an icy school holiday and no one answered, so I hung up and assumed they were closed. No worries, it's an icy holiday. Within 5 minutes the owner called me back apoglizing he missed my call, and took my order. Now that my friends is customer service!!!!
(5)Heather S.
Still a local favorite! I was able to finally to try the tomato basil bagel and it was wonderful. I'm trying to kick the bagel habit, but those whole wheat everything bagels just suck me in.
(5)Matt F.
How the F can you be a bagel spot and be closed on Sundays? Get your ish together, Custom Bagels.
(2)Alex S.
I have been going to this bagel place for years. Their bagels are delicious as well they make a very good chicken salad and tasty Italian loaf of bread. For morning events, I periodically bring these bagels into my work. My coworkers consistently rave about how good the bagels are and request I bring in more. The place is packed Saturday morning from all the late night State Street fun looking for a breakfast sandwich and very busy during the week days during lunch caused from the courthouse traffic. Do yourself a favor and call the order in for pickup.
(5)Danan R.
Loved the banana walnut seven grain bagel with the raisin nut cc. It was dessert and a meal all in one sandwich. The exterior is chewy and the interior soft. While it's not Ess-A-Bagel, it sure does beat the wannabes at most of the other chain bagel cafes (about par with NY bagels) in the area. Whitefish salad isn't bad either, especially when paired with the whole wheat everything. Prices are great: $.80/bagel and an additional $.95 for the cc.

(4) ~ Overall Food & Service MY MENU: * (Plain) Bagel ~ (4.5) Very Good ~ As close as you're going to get to a true NY Style Bagel!;-) Nice snap to the skin which tells you they boil them first before baking. And good and chewy with a great flavor. Wish it was closer to me;-)lol * Bacon, Egg & Cheese on Plain Bagel ~ (3.5) good...I like fried eggs versus scrambled. NOTES: Street (meter) Parking -or- a Parking Garage about (2) blocks away.

Maybe I am biased because I grew up in PA, but in my experience these are the best bagels anywhere (incl NYC)! We have friends/family in Manhattan, Brooklyn, LI, Westchester Co, and my husband grew up in the CT 'burbs, and of all the NY bagels we've eaten (including some "flagels" from a great deli in Oyster Bay), I still have to say my guys at Custom Bagels are the best ever for my bagel dollar! Their sandwiches are absolutely excellent, and any of the prepared fillings (chicken salad, etc.) we've had are completely deli gourmet! Custom Bagels really deserves to be featured as a "best of" on the Food Network in some capacity. I can't say enough good things about them. The staff is always really friendly. The owner and his brother are always hands-on and extremely service-oriented and polite. Everyone in there (staff and customers alike) is always in a positive mood, and it's just a nice experience every time. It is extremely popular with the courthouse/legal professionals so make sure to prepare for a crowd at lunchtime, or try to hit them just before or just after normal lunch hours. Lately we've been taking the baker's dozen home and freezing them. I get grouchy when I don't have my Custom Bagel each day! ;-)

They make the best breakfast bagel sandwiches. It's not just the fresh bagels... the eggs are light and fluffy. It's a Saturday am treat. It gets busy and parking is a pain, so have your better half drop you off and swing back around for you. Call ahead for sandwich orders. You'll be glad you did when you see the line. The guys there are great. I'd ding them for really bad coffee, but its about the bagels so enjoy!
(5)Liz S.
Best bagels I've ever had. Tuna salad is my favorite. Employees are really nice. Prices aren't bad. Definitely my favorite lunch spot in Media.
(5)Nicki C.
The bagels here are amazing! I usually get bacon, egg and cheese on a whole wheat everything, but my favorite is their tomato basil bagel. These guys have bagels down to a science. And their lunch sandwiches are excellent too! The Italian white bread is so soft with the perfect crispy crust. Everything is fresh and delicious. They're always speedy and the staff is always friendly. There are a few tables inside, I prefer eating outside when the weather is nice. This place is a Media staple!
(5)Gwen G.
The best bagels with great service. My family and I get toasted sesame bacon, egg and cheese sandwiches. They have great cookies and baked goods too and Boar's head meats for sandwiches, which are also very good.
(5)Bobby S.
These are not the best bagels in Media. They are the best bagels I've had anywhere.
(5)Melissa H.
LOVE Custom Bagel! Fast and delicious. I have been going there for about 6 years and I am never disappointed!!
(5)Katherine L.
The only acceptable bagel place I've found in the area. The bagels are always odd shapes (oblong with uneven color on the outside) but they taste great. Cream cheeses and salads are always good. Coffee is fine. The inside leaves a lot of room for improvement but it doesn't detract from the overall rating. Closed on Sundays? Not okay.
(3)Reese A.
It's all business at Custom Bagel. You can always expect a fresh bagel however if you are looking for service with a smile or little morning chit-chat, this is not the place. Try the seven grain bagel with veggie cream cheese.
(3)Amelia W.
I started going to Custom Bagel when I got my bank job in Media. They make incredible handmade bagels in a wide variety of flavored. The food is delicious and it's always a pleasure to order, whether it's over the phone or in person. Also... The chicken salad sandwich, which you can get on a bagel, is AMAZING!
(5)Kelly N.
Amazing ! Fresh selection, creative to did for spreads. Way better than any chain bagel spot. Must try in media !!
