This place is my new favorite bar away from home. Great bar, lots of room at both the bar and the high tops, great service @ the bar, lots of local beers and the best wings I've had in the area. It reminds me of the old bars I'd frequent in the Detroit area, and I mean that in the highest regard. The even had an open mic the night I went and the talent was pretty damn good. If you're looking for a solid + righteous bar, go no further...you've found it.

Great service , good prices, happy hour on Fri is a must. The fish fry on fridays is one of the best I've had. Young Jessica aka ham-burgular and theresa are just the best. If you haven't been there in a while, it's worth checking it out again.

Nice place to get a beer and some low priced quality pub food. They have cheap daily specials!

Crap........ Lived here for six years and heard this was a decent place. Finally went. Now I'm left to wonder if I should look up the "decent" in the dictionary because it doesn't match my definition..... Stopped in on a few different occasions recently. The last time was to have a bite. I was hungry for wings so I figured I'd give them a whirl. I looked at the menu and the prices appeared to be better than most. Since most places are at about a buck a wing now, I figured the $7 range for a dozen was a bargain. And to top it off, they were on special today for .45 a piece! I also noticed on the menu that blue cheese and celery were included! Wow, a blue cheese and celery jail break!!!! I'm so used to paying for it anymore, I almost lost my mind.... So I order a dozen and tell the bartender I like mine crispy, not rubbery like the rest of the world thinks is acceptable. No problem and away she goes. I'm not joking when i say my wings arrived less than 5 minutes later. Pretty damn quick! Now I can figure out that since its a wing special day, the probably have a huge pile of pre cooked wings that they flash fry to get them out in a hurry. I get it. But why are they not hot???? They are just barely warm...........hmmm. As far as them being crispy and well done, they were OVERDONE. The entire wing tasted like i was chewing on bones. And I have to admit, I have never had any chicken wing overcooked. I like them crispy, but this was over the top. I couldn't even finish them. So out comes the bill. Guess what, no free celery and blue cheese when the wings are on special. Its only when you pay full price. Gee thanks. I can go to Aaroogas and get bent over any time I want. So this in my opinion is just a dive bar with mediocre food. It dark, unappealing, and almost creepy with the usual clientele. And is that linoleum on the bar top? I'm not sure.... 1 star for sure. I added an extra star becuase the bartender was pretty good. Grandpa has died. Its time to bury him. This is a slop hole.

I stopped on the way home from work and got wings to go. The wife got her usual honey BBQ which was fantastic. I ordered wings not on the menu but called Scottie but that is probably the guys name who made them. I was told they are the "eat at your own risk" wings. That was an understatement. I felt like Adam Richman. The wings were very hot. So hot, I put my beer back in the fridge and got a glass of milk. I'm glad I tried them but I will stick to just plain hot.

A relaxing comfortable place with reasonably priced beer and food. A no frills bar that I enjoy visiting whenever I'm in town. Typical bar fare with a friendly staff.

There is no better watering hole in and around the Borough of Mechanicsburg than "The Growler". Food is typical bar fare, though the wings are pretty good. Decent selection of tap beers for a blue-collar joint, and a great place for Karaoke, Open Mic, or just watching a game with friends. Very reasonably priced, and friendly people abound.

There is no such thing as water on Thursdays. Only bottled that you must pay for. Grrrrr :(

When I'm looking for some greasy comfort food and a beer at low prices, I go here. Nothing about the experience is amazing, but it is always satisfying. The whole place is seat yourself, so while 2-4 people can usually snag a table easily, large groups may have trouble. On nights that they have live music, conversation is really difficult. Call ahead to see if someone is playing that night.

Grandpa's Growler knows chicken and beer. Their beer selection is very good, stretching into imports and micros.

It's ok but if you are going to name your place Grandpa's Growler maybe better beer is in order. The tap selection is ok but is blown away by Al's of Hampton or Shady's in Harrisburg. Service was fast and friendly. I did not eat but the wings looked pretty good and the pizza looked pretty bad.

We've been regular patrons of the Growler for almost 17 years. But no longer after tonight--the last straw. Have had enough of subpar service and lukewarm wings (and not even on wing night!). Enough. So long, Growler. It was fun while it lasted.

i notice there's always cars in the parking lot when I go by, and some friends told me they have good wings, so my wife and I decided to give it a try. Our dinner would have been economical, but it was downright cheap with a restaurant.com coupon! We had good service, despite the belching server on his way to the restrooms and the casual banter between servers. Even though the smoking areas were upstairs and out on the patio, there still seemed to be a noticeable amount of smoke downstairs in the dining area. We were dissappointed with the size of the wings. There was really nothing very special about them, either. The broasted chicken was said to be a signature dish, but wasn't outstanding. The lemon-pepper haddock was good, but lacked fresh veggies to accompany it. If you're looking for a good bar with live bands and cheap eats, this is your place. I really wouldn't recommend it for just the dining experience.

Ha! This place really makes me think of grampas. Not too many college kids here (a postive). Wing night is nice--haven't tried any of the other food so I can't comment on anything else.

Stopped here for lunch while spending a day in the area. There were cars in the parking lot, so it cannot be too bad, right? The atmosphere was nice, not very well lit but its a bar so that is expected. A couple flat screen TV's with various sports and shows on. Pretty laid back crowd. We found out quickly enough that they may have all the TV's because you need some entertainment while you wait. Wait for the server. Wait for your drinks. Wait for you food. There were not a lot of customers but the service was rather slow. When the food arrived, it was definitely hot from the stove. Appetizers were ok- nothing extraordinary. The pork BBQ sandwich did not look at that appetizing but tasted "ok". Chicken fingers were tasty, but the mac'n'cheese was kinda lacking on the cheese. The biggest disappointment were the spicy fries. Oh, they were spicy alright- they were buried in so much seasoning, you could barely see the fries anymore. They were so overdone with seasoning, they may as well have not been fries anymore. None of us finished them. Tried to wash them down with a swig of lemonade but even that was mostly just sugar water. Overall, very disappointed in the dining experience. I'm sure it works well as a bar stop, but I don't think I'll be back for grub.

Decent food, good service, reasonably priced, kid friendly . . . this is definitely not gourmet food . . . but it's good basic fare. If you're looking for a bar scene or for a place to eat with the kids, this is a pretty good option. The menu options are diverse and the food is good. The ambiance is pretty basic. In the back room they have a fish tank and the bathrooms are pretty funky in the choice of color scheme. That's about as exciting as it gets. Yes, it has a bar atmosphere, but you can definitely take kids in. They even have coloring books and Styrofoam cups of crayons to keep the little guys entertained. You can get two crispy, tasty, hot pieces of broasted dark meat chicken for $3.50 - no sides, but you can always steal fries off of your dining companion's plate. For that price I was expecting two small pieces of chicken that were mostly coating. Nope - the pieces were big (the thigh was as big as many breasts) and the coating was thin and perfectly crisped. You can get an order of 12 wings (with some type of ranch dressing-ish powdered seasoning) for a little over $7. (I've had them twice - the second time they were a little salty. For under $7 you can get 12 plain or 12 with the typical hot sauce and/or BBQ sauce options. For over $7 you can also get a Old Bay version and a garlic version. They all come with celery and blue cheese - with real blue cheese (my personal litmus test for the quality of the establishment). Last night they had a taco special. For $1.25 you could get one hard shell beef taco that came with lettuce, tomatoes, cheese, a small container of jar-type salsa and a tiny container of sour cream. Not bad for a kid or for an adult snack. The iced tea tasted freshly brewed. The drink prices are within the reasonable limit. There are drink specials. I think last night it was a Midori Sour for $3.25. I think you could also get a pitcher of Coors Light for under $5 (but I'm not sure if I remember the amount correctly). The restaurant has the typical bar food/mid-level chain offerings on the menu - nachos, burgers, soups, wings, etc. There are a decent number of beer selections (not huge, but there's usually something a little bit less common). They have live entertainment on weekends (usually Saturdays) and I think they said they have Karaoke on Sundays.

Great place to unwind, friendly bartenders and great people. Frequented from 2006-2010 till transfered to California.Warning Food is frozen and has to be nuked,

2 stars for cleanliness. If you want cleanliness, don't go here. Food was just ok, portions were large. If you're looking for lots of greasy food or wings then this is your place.

I can't speak to the food besides the wings, but the atmosphere is pretty local, I'd call it a townie bar. Nothing special to the inside of the place, although it's always filled with people whenever I've been here. Decent number of beers on tap, I like the place because you can get a gallon of tap beer to go. I've had a few varieties of wings here and they are pretty tasty.

Hey...what can I say, I LOVE a good townie-bar. The atmosphere is non-pretentious and laid back. The beer selection here is abundant, and there's always something going on. Lately, it's been really busy there, and the parking can get interesting. Interesting meaning you have to be creative and make your own parking. The food is good, nothing spectacular, but it's good bar food. The Karaoke is fun(I think every Wednesday night). There's a game room upstairs where you can still smoke. If you don't want to climb the stairs every hour, there's a smoking patio right outside. GET THE WINGS!

The atmosphere here is rather dark. I'll go here with my kids, but usually only during the day. It's the first place I found decent, but not great, buffalo wings near Harrisburg, PA. (Arooga's wings are better, see my review.) Try the spicy fries if you like hot food. Just don't order both the spicy fries and the hot wings. I did that one time and my lips were on fire when I walked out of the place. I liked the wings enough to get them for takout at my 40th birthday party.
