Chili (sauce), onions and Kraut...Need I say more? Stop at Hanks and get a shake to bring to eat with the dog. A perfect combo.

On business in town and was looking for a good quick local lunch spot, as I try to avoid the fast food chains. Had high hopes for this place due to the great reviews, but I'm sad to report I found it lacking. I got a hot dog and fries with sauce, and HOLY SALT! I was drinking water all day just to get all the salt from one meal out of my system. I get that this is a local staple, and people are thus reviewing on a nostalgia curve, but for me, I feel it's more 3 stars, and even that feels a little generous.

As a Meadville local a typical Friday or Saturday night started with Eddie's and ended at Hank's. I look forward to opening day and get sad when the closed for the season sign comes up. Any combo is delicious so experiment and find one that works for you. You wont be disappointed I promise!! Its cash only!

Don't scoff at the 5 star rating. Yes, we're talking about hot dogs and generally it's difficult to screw up a hot dog. Eddie's isn't about not screwing up hot dogs; it's about making them better. The hot dogs are good enough on their own to warrant a 5-star. They're crisp on the outside, and juicy and soft on the inside. They remind me of the dogs offered at major league ballparks but without the over-inflated prices. The dogs really shine when you start adding toppings. I'm a fan of Kraut, Sauce and Onions, which gives a nice sour bite on top of a rich, spicy sauce. The cheese sauce is also delicious. The service is fast, so Eddie's is great for a quick "drop-by" meal. The outdoor seating is well-maintained, (for a gravel lot), and is great on the rare Meadville sunny day. Seriously, just go get a hot dog. Now.

Don't even think about going to Hanks ice cream without stopping here first! Eddies is just as much of a legend as Hanks is. In fact, it is impossible to have the true experience without both together! Eddies is an awesome little place where you are guaranteed the best hot dog ever every time! They serve all the best toppings whether it's chilli, cheese, sauerkraut, onions, or plain old mustard and ketchup! Me, I'm a chilli cheese gal, but you can get pretty much anything on them. You sit outside at picnic tables. So if it's storming you may want to eat in the car or at home! All I know is it is definitely worth the trip to taste the best hot dogs in the world.

My husband and my father in law raved about this hotdog place that they have been going since Matt was a little kid. I visited Eddie's footlong today and had a "The Works" hotdog that came with relish, onions, ketchup, mustard, sauerkraut, and sauce. I am not a big hot dog person, so it's hard to give a comparison of this place to other hot dogs places. Personally, However, I did enjoyed the hotdog I ate, but I wish the bun was toasted instead of steam, since it made the hotdog a bit too soggy for my taste. The sauce had a nice spicy kick to it which I enjoyed. If you are in town, I would recommend giving Eddie's a try!

Local tradition. Eddie's, then down the road a stretch for Hank's. A summertime staple. Simple menu, good-sized servings, area-famous Smith's hot dogs, and prompt service. I probably shouldn't say this, but go ahead, toss the very friendly birds a nibble; it's all part of the ambiance.

Cash only so leave the cards at home. Exactly what you'd expect. Not a huge menu, but dogs done right.

These hot dogs are the best I have ever had. No joke. No BS. A footlong with kraut and sauce is about the dopest thing Meadville has to offer (though it's not too difficult to be the dopest establishment in a snoozeville North West PA town) I don't know exactly what the "sauce" is but its spicy (not too spicy), full of bold flavors, and complements the Smith's Hotdog (can't find these bad boys out in California) really well. Go there on a warm evening in the summer and be willing to wait in line, but it is well worth it. Grab your footlong and take a seat on the outdoor picnic tables and enjoy the 3 months of the year Meadville gets some decent weather.

You will find local are partial to this place. I am a local. Great dog with the works. It is my favorite tradition. Seating is outside, you will see people in snow coats eating hotdogs outside. Need a say more?

I am sure there are many people who think that a hotdog could never warrant 5 stars. Those people have never been to Eddies. You should try every combination of toppings. My favorite is mustard, onions and sauerkraut. Skip the chips and fries and get two dogs! Also, you have to wash it down with a lemon blend. Yum! Eddie's tastes like summer and childhood.

I lived in Meadville until 1981 when I moved to the South. My family still lives there and my husband and I visit about twice a year. I so look forward to Eddies. We were just up there August 7th. We had a small get together at my Mom's and picked up some hotdogs for dinner. They have certainly gone downhill. Way down hill. I asked for the works with jalapenos on it. I was hard pressed to find sauerkrat or onions or much of anything on the dog. The rest of the group ordered sauce, cheese and onions. My Mom's had about 2 pieces of onions on it along with the sauce and cheese. As far as a "footlong", no way. The bag is not even 12 inches long and the hot dog is about a bit over ten inches. Not the good old days dogs and the quality is just not the same. I would gladly pay more money for the way your hotdogs used to be. We were all dissapointed and you have definitely lost us as a customer. Sorry to see an icon cheapen up what used to be the hit of Meadville.
