Traditions ended up being our unintended dinner destination one Sunday afternoon. There were seven of us and we all agreed that our meals were very good. Hubs had their Ham Balls. Two very generous seasoned ground ham balls with mashed potatoes and veggie - he was pretty happy. I had Ham Pot Pie which was basically ham soup with potatoes and noodles. I was well starched and it was quite good. Others had burgers and meatloaf and open faced sandwiches - all left happy and very filled. The staff was happy and efficient and the restrooms were clean. Decor is extremely wholesome in the Pennsylvania Dutch tradition, ahem... Tradition! They also have a very nice little store that carries a large inventory of work clothing including Carhartt - should that interest you!

When visiting Central Pennsylvania, a visit to this place is a must. On the menu is a huge selection of authentic Pennsylvania Dutch meals all prepared from scratch. The restaurant itself has a country/ lodge atmosphere with an indoor and outdoor sitting area. All of the waitresses wear Mennonite clothing and in my 6 times here have provided excellent service. You will not leave this place hungry! If you have a chance, breakfast is a must. Try the scrapple. It must be their own recipe. It's different than I've tasted before. Each meal comes with thick slices of homemade bread. They also have a novelty store and full bakery inside the restaurant. Give this place a try. This is where all of the locals go to treat themselves to a large plate of comfort food made from scratch.

Great family restaurant. Prices are reasonable and the food is very good. I've had the Philly cheesesteak, the sirloin steak, and the pot roast burger. The pot roast burger was excellent. The others were very good, but not as unique and tasty. My wife had the chicken pot pie and I think it is the first time I've ever seen her finish her entire meal, and she did it before I was done with mine. That speaks volumes. If you live here you surely have already gone, but if you are visiting and looking for a nice calm sit down dinner; this is the place to go.

5 out of 5 angry faces. Told there was a 25 minute wait but have been waiting for over an hour. I'm about to get all hangry in this place

I have to give a shoutout to a restaurant from my hometown. It didn't exist when I lived there, but now that it does I tend to stop in maybe once a year around Thanksgiving when I'm home. Yes, Traditions has become a bit of a tradition. I've had a number of items on their menu, including the shrimp soaked in a butter garlic sauce, filling (this is a Central PA term for stuffing - trivia!), pierogies (which spellcheck does not seem to recognize; it autocorrects to groupies), and the delectable crab bisque. Everything I've had has been super tasty. I was there yesterday with two friends who got various soups and salads -I remember one was the house salad - and they also thoroughly enjoyed their meals. BTW, if you've never been to the area, just a note that you shouldn't expect happy hour specials or anything. The town is as dry as a bone.

This place is great. Really cool theme as well as large portions at a fairly decent price (you get what you pay for). I recommend their desserts as well.

Not many Yelp users in the hills of Western PA Guess there don't have to be as folks there have a charming tradition of actually talking to one another about stuff like which restaurants are good or not so good. Can't believe that I am first person to review this establishment! If you're in the Altoona, Bedford, Saxton areas, I heartily recommend a meal at Traditions. This, folks, is country cookin' at it's best Nothing fancy, just simple victuals, very well prepared and served by an incredibly friendly and efficient staff I had the best country fried steak, I've ever had the pleasure to sup on! I'd also recommend taking the daily specials seriously. They are planned rather than accidental, and (from what I hear from the locals) a destination/time dining event.

Was traveling in the area and always looking for the local places to eat. Traditions was recommended so thought I would give it a try. I was not disappointed the food was great, service was excellent and the desert was outstanding. I have the all-you-can-eat prime rib, baked potato, side salad, and cup of ham and bean soup. I don't normally get prime rib, but this was absolutely outstanding. Was so soft and tender I could cut it with my fork. Of course they offer homemade fresh baked bread with the meal as well which was also fabulous. Fresh-baked pies daily and of course I had to try a piece of the crumb cherry with a scoop of ice cream, which was also really good. They also sell baked goods to go, pies made fresh at 3 AM in the morning by the bakers. There is a neat little store attached to this restaurant which is a great place to buy fabric if you're into crafts. Would definitely suggest checking this place out not too far out of town. And even if you're in Altoona, it's definitely worth the drive.

My husband and I ate here last night for the first time and had a wonderful experience. I ordered the stuffed shells, which came with garlic bread and a side salad and my husband ordered the chicken fried steak with two sides, corn and mac and cheese. Everything was wondeful and you could tell all home made. Very much country style down home cooking! For dessert we split the streusel pumpkin pie, that was essentially pumpkin pie with a crumble on top. It was amazing! All in all we had a great time and will definitly be going back.

Well like the 1st reviewer said take the nightly specials SERIOUS especially Monday's all you can eat fried chicken (it is to die for) and I have been a few times that later in the evening the will run out! So as a family we try to head out no later than 5pm or you run that risk! All the staff is super friendly and after you eat their giant portions there is a little country store attached so you can walk off some of the food you ate! I love to sit in their outdoor patio it's non smoking so it doesn't stink and since it's in wide open farm country the cool breeze it great on a summer night! Love Love Love Traditions!!!!

Great food and a friendly staff. Very family friendly. We try not to go on Friday because it is so busy for the all you can eat fish. They also have a breakfast buffet that I can not wait to try! This was the first place recommended to us as newcomers to central, pa and it was a hit!
