I have to be pretty impressed to leave a 5 star review. And this place impressed me! I used to live up this way (by Bear Creek Mountain). Since high school I've seen this place change hands from the Red Lion to Dora's to the Summit Bar & Grille. Now its Longswamp Tavern and has new owners, a fresh new vibe, an awesome an eclectic menu and all I can say is I really, really hope this place succeeds because the food is awesome! If I still lived up here I'd be hanging out at the bar as well as ordering food. Even though I'm a distance away I can see us adding this into our frequent takeout rotation. The place isn't much to look at from outside (just a plain brown building) but inside its somehow cozy yet spacious. There is a big, beautiful fireplace against one wall, a bunch of tables and a nice long bar; it manages to feel trendy yet homey. During this visit we started with Pickle Chips (wow! Way better than a certain owl themed place) and the fries loaded with bacon & cheddar (fresh cut wedge potatoes loaded with REAL bacon and REAL cheddar). I had the Thai Peanut Chicken Melt which had grilled chicken, spicy Thai peanut sauce, cilantro, avocado and cheddar on grilled bread. It was on the weekly specials menu which also featured items such as Pork Taquitos, a Picnic Burger (burger topped with hot dogs, baked beans, slaw and cheese...weird but intriguing) and chicken soup. My sandwich was sprinkled with peanuts and served with the house chips (yum!) and a pickle. Really nice presentation and really tasty! I'm glad I still have half for tomorrow! My husband had the Turkey Melt (bacon, cheddar, secret sauce), found on the regular menu. He loved it and he never loves ANY food... My son had the Fish Tacos (battered Mahi Mahi, chipotle-lime slaw, gordita shell served with zesty tortilla chips). He scraped the slaw off which I tasted and was awesome (the best part!!) but hey he's only 11 so he gets a pass I guess. Still he said he'd get it again and this kid is a picky eater! Anyway we all loved our food which NEVER happens in this house. Everything was fresh, nicely presented and very tasty and we will absolutely be going back! I can't wait to try the Cuban (pulled pork, Swiss, ham, pickles, mustard) and the Black Diamond sandwich (fried onions, horseradish sauce, hot peppers) among other things!
