Well... We were going to have dinner here tonight. Our reservation was for 8 but after being ignored as we walked in and sat at the bar for several minutes and not being helped we decided to leave and go somewhere with better customer service. This is a great inn, we found it on groupon But the bartender and the server tonight at this restaurant are NOT friendly and I have no desire to come back.

We started with the hotel package which come with a dinner for two. The next night, because we couldn't found a quality restaurant open in Memorial day in Lancaster, PA, we decided to return to Osteria Avanti for the 2nd night dinner also. When we book our hotel room, we don't know what's included in the dinner package. Since it's only about $60 extra for the package in a AAA 4 diamonds hotel, I think it should not be wrong. Reality proved our decision is right. When we arrived the 1st night using the dinner package, the waiter courteously explained to us that we can choose one appetizer, entree (include the special of the day) and dessert for each person. We ordered a glass of red wine and a cup of tea, the calamari and tuscan chicken zuppa for appetizer, filet mignon and the special of the day (fitet mignon and lobster) for entree. Couple minutes later, the waiter return from the kitchen and apologize to us that lobsters sold out and apologized again during the course of our dinner. We ordered both our filet mignon medium rare and it was cook to the right level that we like it to be. When we done with our entree, he suggested the ice cream flavor that go along with our dessert which end up is a pretty good combination. By the end of our dinner, he come to us say thank for come to their restaurant for dinner etc. and explain to us that all the drink, food, tax and gratuity are already paid through the dinner package and say good bye to us. With his courteous and honest service, I paid him $5 extra tip. The second night we came to Osteria Avanti, I ordered the spaghetti with shrimp. The way they presented the spaghetti is kind of funny and it's the first time I've ever seen. It was wrapped inside a big piece of paper (I think it's wax paper) which was tied with a ribbon and lay on the plate. I felt like open up a birthday present when I untie the ribbon. The shrimp was cook to the right tender level for us. I like to give it a 4 1/2 stars but I don't want to bring their rating down to 4 so I give it a 5 here.

Waiter tried to sneak an extra $16 glass of wine into bill. Bruschetta with chickpeas? Weird. Bread was ice cold. Place was empty. Waste of $122. Blechhhhhh

I never would have believed there was such an amazing restaurant right down the street! We've gone twice now, once for lunch with the in-laws and once for drinks with friends. Nick (our server) was superb, the food and drinks were delicious and the inside was great. Can't wait to go back!

We were truly impressed. The food was delicious, and unexpectedly sophisticated for being in the middle of the Pennsylvania countryside. The shrimp and pasta dish was fantastic. Our waiter was knowledgable and attentive. We will definitely be returning.

We dined at Osteria Avanti with a small group on December 28, 2013. A very small selective menu was available to us. A red meat, sea food & chicken were the only 3 entrees available. 15 of the 19 attendees ordered the filet, the remaining 4 did the salmon. Not sure about the fish, but the filet was superb. The veggies were fine and the drinks were on the upper end of expensive. Each of the entrees were priced at $29.95. Fine for the filet, but a bit much for the chicken that no one ordered. Service was great. We'll definitely return with our dinner group.

What a great surprise! Hubby and I live in the area and I was scouting for a location for Father's Day lunch. Stumbled on Osteria Avanti on Yelp and decided to give it a whirl on impulse. The restaurant is located within the grounds of the charming Inn at Leola Village, which is picturesque, quiet and comfortably elegant by all appearances. Another group arrived just before us and sat in the bar. We opted for the dining room, and were the only patrons there throughout our entire lunch. Lucky for us, as we enjoyed the prime window alcove table for two. There are two dining areas and we were seated in the smaller one, which has Italian country decor with rich colors and sumptuous upholstered banquettes and chairs around copper-topped tables. Lots of hand-painted Italian pottery on display and unique lighting. I ordered the Brussels Sprouts with Italian Sausage as a starter and Penne with Beef Cheek Ragu. Hubby got the Avanti Burger and opted for the $3 "crock" of soup add-on to any entree. The Brussels Sprouts and Tuscan Chili, served in an immense bowl like you'd expect as a full order, were both wonderful and were accompanied by an assortment of 3-4 different breads, including a great herbed focaccia, and EVOO. The Avanti Burger was incredible! Three meats plus Gorgonzola on a grilled ciabatta-like roll. Def a knife and fork burger. This was accompanied by the best French fries we'd had in years, so good they should warrant something a bit more special than standard ketchup as a dipping option. That didn't stop us from devouring all we could hold, though. The Penne was very good aside from being less al dente than I'd have liked, just not the dish I should have ordered for a warm, sunny Sunday lunch. It would have been perfect for a chilly fall or winter evening. We both ate all we could and took home half the burger, more than half of the chili, and I could have taken home a nice portion of the pasta if I'd wanted to have it again this time of year. While a bit pricey, we both felt the quality and portion sizes offset the cost and we will definitely be back. Such a pleasant discovery amidst all the typical "meh" that is much of dining out in Lancaster County. Knowledgeable, well-paced table service, too. I'd give 4.5 stars if possible. There is a lovely al fresco dining area I'm eager to try on another visit. On a side note, I'm something of a "saltaholic" and quasi-connoisseur so I was interested to note a tin of fancy sea salt from Dean & Deluca on each table. Considered adding a bit to the EVOO offered with the delicious bread basket but the crystals were far too large, with no way to crush or grind them. And no pepper anywhere. I was delighted to discover that each dish we ordered was perfectly seasoned, with no need for additional salt or pepper! A rare occurrence for me.

as I prepared for this meal, read reviews online, many reviewers said they were out of Porterhouse, yet again, The waitress said it would arrive at 9pm. The pork chop was dry, the remoulade sauce was overly sweet almost it tasted like it was days old. bland flavor

Everything was fantastic. Food was terrific and wait staff was extremely attentive. We had the tenderloin tips and chicken. Both were VERY good. Resteraunt wasn't very busy. More for us! Must try if you are in town or driving through.

Horrible! Dirty! We like to sit at the bar and eat. We're comfortable and usually get better service. The bartender is one thing I can't complain about other than he served our wine in a dirty carafe. I didn't see any 44 page wine list. Anyway we had a choice of paying 14 dollars for a Glass of wine or have a carafe. We opted for the carafe of house wine. Ugh! He was about to pour my wine in a DIRTY glass. I asked him to please wash the glasses so he picked up a DIRTY BAR RAG to wipe my glass with. I asked him not to. To please wash the glass. He put our glasses into a machine. When they came out HOT he started to wipe them again with the same dirty bar rag. Are you kidding me? Please just give me the glass wet. Ever have drank wine in a hot, wet glass? Very classy. Meanwhile another employee came behind the bar to get a customer some wine and used that DIRTY BAR RAG to wipe their glasses out. So after 20 minutes we get our wine. It was ok. Not really but....so we take a look at a menu. I asked about specials. Saturday night? No specials? Really couldn't find anything on the menu I would pay that kind of money for. We had enough time to sit and look around and the place needs a good cleaning behind that bar. We paid for our drinks and left. Went to Vinola's and had a good meal and good service.

Excellent dinner at Osteria. We were guests at the Inn so this was the logical choice. A good decision. Superb wine list specializing in Italian wines (44 Pages of them!). However the waiter listened to what we liked and what our price range was and offered a couple of great selections. The menu offered a good selection and our meals were wonderful. Mussels and a wedge salad to start, tenderloin tips and swordfish for main course. All perfectly done and presented. Also enjoyed a drink at the bar to end the evening. Bartenders were friendly and attentive. Would like a little more variety in the menu but that was my only minor issue. Desserts were very tempting but we are trying to lose pounds! You don't have to dress up as this is a casual upscale place. Enjoy!

My wife and I had dinner here our first night staying at the hotel. The restaurant is very elegantly designed. There were about 5 other groups dining and two waiters. Unfortunately, our waiter was a bit slow with service. Took awhile to take our order, refill drinks, etc. The cheese platter to start was very good. It came with pretzels, cheese, fruit, crackers and four different cheeses. Excellent. Finally got the main course. I got the Avanti burger which was part beef and pork then had beef cheek on the bottom and was topped with Gorgonzola. Sounded delicious and was actually good. Not great. My wife had the shrimp pasta, which domes tied up in a paper container. The presentation of the meal was interesting. But the food was lukewarm to cold. She found it difficult to eat with the paper it was wrapped in. So we were not thrilled with dinner and are not likely to visit again. We had the complimentary breakfast which was quite good. A nice potato dish and a good quiche like dish in addition to your standard continental breakfast fare. The servers in the morning were very fast, efficient and friendly. Much more positive experience. Combining the two experience we came up with 3 stars.

Excellent for the complimentary breakfast included in the room. Even more excellent as a restaurant! By far, the most delicious thing was the mussels in Gorgonzola cream sauce. It was all I could do to not lick the bowl clean. Hubby had bruschetta and the filet mignon with port sauce, and he said it was the best meal he has had in a restaurant in a long time. I also had a burger made from beef cheeks, but I was too full to really enjoy it after the mussels. The only "eh" thing was the white bean soup that seemed like baby-food mush. Like it had been in the bottom of the pot all day. It tasted good, but the texture was not nice. But the good stuff more than made up for that. The Riesling was good, as were the local tap beers. Service was excellent. There was only 1 waiter (Tuesday night) and he was actually slammed, so he made a few mistakes, but for as many people as he was handling, he did a darned good job. Dinner was about $100, with 2 apps, 2 mains, a soup, beer and wine, but again, all in all, prices were very reasonable.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
