Trainer’s Inn Menu

Sorry, We are updating this restaurant menu details.

Food was edible. I had the fish & chips - three small filets with an average serving of fries and a side of cole slaw for 12.95. Fries were good but the fish was not - it was similar to the kind you would buy frozen from the grocery store. Terrible beer selection - pretty much all cheap, domestic. Service was ok. Weird dining room set up - booths on the perimeter and tables in the middle. The booths had this weird awning over them which made it feel a little claustrophobic.

We came to Trainer's for our wedding reception and had the dinner in their private basement room. We were able to come in the day previous to set up our center pieces, wedding favors, and other little details. The hostess and waitresses were all very helpful. The menu options that the owner had sent me did not exactly jive with exactly the type of food that we had in mind, and the kitchen was extremely accommodating as we requested two dishes that had not been on their menu. (The other dishes we ordered from the menu). All of the food was absolutely delicious. The comments from our guests were very positive. We had chicken, fish, pasta primavera, roasted red potatoes, and mixed vegetables. They also gave us hot rolls and a salad. My favorite dish was the pasta primavera which was one of the meals we requested that wasn't on their regular menu. My only complaint is that the meal was slow to get started. It appeared that the servers were doing double duty serving our party downstairs as well as helping the customers in the regular dining room upstairs. The servers themselves were all very friendly, just stretched a bit thin. We had wanted to have a buffet, however our party (numbering 40) would not have fit in the room with a buffet table, so our meal was offered family style with platters being passed around the tables. It would have been helpful to have a larger platter since the plate was often empty by the time it made it around the larger tables, however, they were prompt with bringing in extra platters to continue serving. I would recommend this restaurant to smaller wedding parties. I was very pleased with how everything turned out, and we got very good value for our money.

$6 beer , loaded fries and a well done burger. What else can one ask for. Servers were great as the customers were well behaved. Very quite and very deceiving to the eyes as you walk in, from the front it seems small until you walk to the left side of the bar and noticed that it has a restaurant setting in the back. It's right across from the Hampton hotel. And the area is very quite. For a far away place I would eat here again.

This place was right next door to the Hampton inn that we stayed at while in Jim thorpe, PA. Yes, it's a dive bar, but I love dive bars. The staff is friendly and the patrons that I made contact with throughout the night were pleasant. Shawn behind the bar Is cute and personable. I did not eat here so I cannot comment on the food

I went into this place with very low expectations. We were a group of 20 people in the middle of the day. I would have understood if they were totally overwhelmed by us. It was very strange that they insisted on seating us at one table. We said we would split up into 2 or 3 tables. No, they spent 5 or 10 minutes rearranging chairs and tables to make one very long table. Why? I have no idea. But they took our order fine and got our food out to us OK. The food was good. No one complained. Some had drinks with their lunch, some had appetizers with their lunch, some people had burgers, some had full dinners. The check, with tip, came out to $15/person! One minor problem during our meal: A rather large gentleman lifted up out of his chair a little and quite audibly passed wind. It was very embarrassing, many heads turned. Well, full disclosure, I should mention it was a member of our entourage that committed the vile act, so I can't really fault the establishment. So I say, don't hesitate to come here if you are in the neighborhood and hungry. If you are staying next door at the Hampton Inn, it is a good choice for drinks. At night there was Karaoke, if you are into that sort of thing. There was a rather large gentleman singing in a horrible manner. Well full, disclosure......

Ok. I am sitting here right now at Platz's. I just came from Trainer's and I'm EXTREMELY disappointed. We walked in and they told us there would be at least a 10 minute wait. I counted tables out loud to the maitre'd and counted ten empty tables. He said the wait was due to no waitresses. THIS IS LABOR DAY WEEKEND. UNACCEPTABLE!

This place is the armpit of the area. I don't believe half of what the other reviews say, I say when going to Trainer's buyer beware. If it were not for the hotel next door this place would likely be out of business. Their food is inconsistent to say the least. I have had one or two decent meals and one or two horrible experiences that I would never wish on anyone. Cold food, limp fries, slow service, indifferent wait staff, you name it, they got it.

Cold beer and the food is not bad. Pretty standard tavern food. They do make a pretty decent steak. If you are staying at the hotel next door they will make food to carry out if you want.

I was in the area camping and snuck away for a good meal. I got a filet mignon and crab cake. It was pleasing and cooked to the correct temp. I'm sure the meat is local but it tasted a little gamey to me. I still enjoyed it along with my sides. It's really a 3 star experience but I feel bad not giving his place more. Oh and the mash potatoes were very good.

Loved it. Ate here when staying next door. Had low expectations, but sometimes you just can't beat the convenience of walking to and from dinner. Was very pleasantly surprised! Very nice waitress and food was very good. Get the loaded fries, omg!

Walking in I didn't expect much as far as food and service goes, but we were pleasantly surprised. The bartender, Karen, was very friendly and the food was delicious. We were in the mood for steak and ordered their 16oz prime rib special as well as their "homemade for 22 years" lobster bisque. Everything was cooked to order and delicious. I would recommend to anyone in the area!

So the rumor I heard was that this place closed for a few months for "renovations". I was really excited to go back tonight because the food was alright last time I went. Tonight was kinda "eh". Upon walking in, I noticed that NOTHING changed. Nothing at all. The menu is a sheet of crumpled up paper that has the words cut off, the booths still show their wear and the beer was flat. Which I complained about and got a bottle. It took way too long for the soups and salads to come out, then the appetizer was the best stuffed mushroom ever, but that was ruined by my roast beef sandwich. Which it's not even a sandwich, it's an open face sandwich, I asked for no mushrooms on it, there were mushrooms all over it. Huge portions, the beef was dried and hard. Normally I bring home leftovers but I left half of it on the plate. Everyone else I was with raved about their platters.

Hubs and I visited this bar while in Lehighton, PA a couple of weeks ago. It was intriguing to know that my father-in-law worked at this bar, years and years ago, and that it still has the same owners. No sell outs! This place is honestly, a very divey bar, so if you aren't into that, then you shouldn't go inside. Someone asked us, "is it a good place for dinner, I saw the reviews weren't that great". So, my answer is, if you want to have beers, and maybe some bar apps to tie you over, yes, this is a great place. If you want something quick and again, very divey, then sure, eat your dinner here. We really enjoyed the local feel, and the fact that they also sell bottled beer to-go. Our hotel just so happened to be neighbors to Trainer's so this was great as there was a foot of snow on the ground, and a bitch to get to a store. (Not all c-stores sell beer, so one must drive a few miles to get it).

I was visiting the area from Phoenix, and dropped in for a drink. After looking a the menu, I got the lobster bisque and something else to go. I can't remember what I got to go....but the lobster bisque was amazing! I wish I spent more time here exploring the food.

For what's in the area you can't go wrong stopping in for dinner. The place was filled with locals but we didn't get any stares or feel uncomfortable. Had dinner at the bar. The bartender was polite and friendly. Went with the steaks. Not steakhouse quality but not bad. To my surprise the New England clam chowder was really good.

12/10/10 6:35 pm sat at the bar the barmaid walked by 10min. ago. Ignoring me. Went to sit at table ordered the broiled seafood dinner. The crab pattie wass burnt on top and has no bottom to it. Mushy inside and warm Only. Yuk. The waitress said its normally cooked like that because they put it in the broiler. The fish is over cooked. The rest is good. Still for the money it's a big disappointment. What makes up for it is the lobster bisque it is so good probably the best ever. I asked for tartar sauce and got cocktail sauce. Way to go sheen my waitress.

nice old fashioned restaurant where all the local come to eat. I happen to stay in hotel right next to it so it was convenient. Great selection of foods and fresh seafood. They got special posted everyday for really good price.

We visited this tavern this past ski weekend during a stay at the Hampton Inn next door. This is the Poconos and good dining options are sparse in these parts. We normally drive over to Jim Thorpe to eat, but Trainer's Inn was conveniently close. I was leery due to some of the reviews about service and food here on Yelp, but ended up pleasantly surprised. Here are the highlights: This is a tavern with a small bar area and a separate dining room. Some of us had arrived earlier to hang out at the bar. When our party of 8 arrived, we were promptly seated in the main dining room. Service at the bar and in the dining room was good and attentive - contrary to what I had read from some reviews. Later in the evening, there was karaoke that night, probably with the locals. It was in the bar area and not disruptive. In fact, we asked that the music in the main dining room be turned down so that we could listen to the singing. The menu had a variety of food, including the standard burgers and tavern food. For appetizers, we shared a plate of wings and mussels. Both were excellent. The wings are on the larger size and did not have that frozen taste that one might find sometimes in wing orders. The two orders of mussels were also delicious, especially the sauce - definitely worth repeating. Our main food did not take an excessive amount of time to arrive either. That is our photo of the blackened chicken salad in the photo gallery here. Btw, the lobster bisque was delicious also. All in all, we will probably be visiting Trainer's again during future visits to the Hampton Inn. If this was a McChain, the tagline would be closest to "Neighborhood Grill & Bar", aka Applebee's, but instead of being something Applebees tries to emulate, this is a real neighborhood grill and bar. I'd give this a 3-1/2 star review, however, its not a choice available in the Yelp review form. Definitely no less than a 3 star though.

Stopped in Saturday night for drinks and karaoke. Place was dead. The bartender was not friendly. Stayed for one beer and left. Would go back

Decided to give it a try again after a few years ago and not being thrilled. Happy to say things have greatly improved. We were there on a Saturday evening. Our server, Bobby, was very attentive. We ordered an appetizer to split which was very good. Our Entrees were also very good. I love the atmosphere along with the smell of wood burning fire. I will be returning again.
