As far as I'm concerned, The Greenfield Restaurant & Bar is one of your better bets for a restaurant in Lancaster, an area not really known for having fine dining establishments. That is unless you consider subsistence like Amish foods to be fine dining, which I admittedly don't. The Greenfield Restaurant & Bar has an upscale atmosphere about it and my service was top notch. I had their Caesar salad which was tasty, fresh and crisp, and when I asked for it to come with extra anchovies, they had no problem with that though the anchovies were out of the can black, not white. For my entrée I went for their Pan-Seared Giant Diver Sea Scallops that came with spring peas, what they termed to be "Forbidden Rice" and "Lady Turkey" sausage. The scallops were indeed large in size, dry diver with a fresh clean taste. Though nothing exceptional, certainly as good as you'd get in most restaurants one might consider as being upscale.

Where to start, coming through the door you are greeted by the not so cheerful hostess. She tried to seat us next to a painfully loud piano - sorry but I don't want to try to shout across the table. Food was great, I had the French onion soup and a barrel cut steak with mushroom and potatoes, but wait one minute I had to wait 5minutes for the potatoes to arrive. Overall the food was excellent. Don't expect to get great service at this place, it's painfully slow and you will only see the server maybe once. Expect to get your refills of drinks at the bar as I had to do - after politely waiting for 10mins trying to make eye contact with the hostess a couple of times. We decided as a family to not get desert or coffee or any other drinks because it might take another 30mins of waiting. The only time I saw the speedy service was at the end when we paid. Grumpy face at the front never said anything as we left. I've eaten at a lot of fine restaurants like Jean George, this restaurant tries to be pretentious and upscale, had the right food but doesn't have that final eye for detail on the service. Service completes the experience this didn't come close. Bye grumpy hostess person

Friends of ours spoke very highly of this place so we decided to check it out while we were in town this past weekend. The atmosphere was very nice. On the formal side, but not stuffy. We sat in the balcony which was quiet and very pleasant. The menu isn't huge, but offers a good variety of dishes from seafood to steak and chicken as well as lamb and duck. So, there's pretty much something for everyone. As a matter of fact, I had a really hard time deciding between several items. The service was excellent. Our server was very pleasant and friendly and had a sense of humor which is always welcome. The food came out in a timely manner. Not too fast, but not too slow either. The complimentary rolls help if you're really hungry. The french onion soup was very tasty although not as hot as I would have liked. I had a scallop dish from the menu it was excellent. The scallops were cooked perfectly and were very tasty. There wasn't a single complain from our group of four. Everyone was very happy with their meals. The prices will prevent it from being a family place if you've got kids. It's definitely more of a "couples night out" kind of place, as long as you've saved up a few bucks. I would definitely go again and recommend it.

I've gone to the Greenfield Inn for years when working in the area and have always enjoyed the warm atmosphere and very good food. The hook that not everyone knows about at the Greenfield Inn is that while they have a nice dining room and bar on the main floor they have a wine cellar in the basement with just a few tables for diners. The wine cellar has a stone floor and wooden wine racks for walls. It is an intimate setting and adds a plus for ambiance to the already good dining. I started with their onion soup which was very dark as it should be from browning and deglazing the onions many times over to draw out the sugars and richness that you taste in onion soup. One person in the group ordered the calamari which was very well done with a light batter and cooked just right without being overcooked. Dinners come with salad and the Caesar salad comes nicely chilled with fresh croutons and rich dressing. For main courses two in our group had the crab cakes and one had the filet mignon. The crab cakes were large and full of lump crab and little to no filler as they should be. They were good but a little light on spice and didn't smell as good as they should. The filet was perfectly cooked and our friend really enjoyed it. All in all it may have been an off night for my crab cakes but all the other items were very good. I enjoyed the Greenfield Inn and will definitely be back the next time I get back to Lancaster.

Ok first off. No I do not prefer to sit on top of the piano. Normally I'd prefer to hear my family vs use text messages. Second sitting on top of the AC while normally would be ok if it were 100F outside. But having it gust up my backside while I'm eating isn't very preferred. The lady that seated us (will refrain from classifying her a hostess and truly hesitate using the word lady but yeah let's carry on) had one of those bitch faces that if she smiled no on would recognize her. She was truly annoyed to apparently have us there more so when we asked to be moved from the piano zone and when we left didn't bother to say thank you so we made it a point to say you're welcome. Now about the service or lack there of. It was easier to just get things ourself. I think when you first order you need to order all your drinks that you'll have for that evening all at once or do as my husband did go to the bar and get it yourself. Oh you want all your food together? Oh sorry they like to give you sides after your beef is cold. Silly reader. You're pretty demanding for a customer. Funniest moment: waitress asking would you like desert? Ah no thanks we don't want to get served when breakfast rolls around. Good luck with the service. Food was ok. Nothing to go stark raving crazy about. Once you get it you're pretty much exasperated from waiting that one simply doesn't even care anymore. As for the owner he loves to visit people and make small talk. Unfortunately after seeing our annoyance he never came around to us anymore. Should have waited in line for Millers.

If your in the Lancaster area and want to impress somebody over dinner this would be a great place. The setting and atmosphere are very nice and the service is impeccable. It is a tad on the pricey side so be prepared to drop some serious coin, especially for the steaks. There are chicken and seafood options for less than $30 though that are very good too. I had a crab cake platter. It was good with mostly crab and little filler which is how it should be. I worked in Baltimore for a couple years so my crab cake standards are very high... so when I say my crab cake was pretty good but not great...means it was still pretty darn good! Had a app that was kind of a Short Rib Egg Roll thing. It was very good also. Not a place I would be going to a lot but it would be a very good special occasion place or place to take a client you want to impress

My husband and I enjoyed our dinner here a great deal. The restaurant itself is lovely. The food was delicious. We both had the pork chop with spaetzell, caramelized apple and other things I can't remember. So good. I'll dream with eating again some day... Oh, we also had some really tasty beets.

This was the nicest meal that we have had in Lancaster. The food was delicious. I had the beet salad with scallops and my daughter had the crab cakes. My daughter also had the creme brûlée. Everything was delicious. The scallops were fantastic. I will probably order the same dish if we return to Lancaster. The service was excellent. Joe was an excellent server and the hostess did her job very well too. If you're visiting on a pretty day, you have to sit outside they have a lovely outside patio.

Went there with my elderly mother because she liked the scallops there. One of the scallops in her order was bad - as in rancid will give you food poisoning bad. She had to spit it out. That bad. We notified the manager who took the plate away - I assumed to inform the kitchen and take the entree off the bill. Check came and the scallops were still on the bill. I brought this up with the manger whose response was 'well she ate all but one....'. and refused to take if off the bill because 'the kitchen said it was fine' ( they ate it....?) Was speechless. Paid the check and never going back. Highly suggest you do the same. Bad food and total lack of class, concern or responsibility

We stopped in for an hour just for a bottle of wine and appetizers. We were impressed! We were seated in the bar area which was open and bright. The server was great too. I enjoyed the wine selection; we ordered one from "the cellar" which I think are discounted bottles that they are no longer ordering. It was great and nicely priced! We got the cheese plate - FABULOUS. The olive plate - YUM. And the short rib spring rolls - ...Eh. They weren't BAD at all. Just not great. I think they're too thick and the caramelized onions get lost. But again - not bad, they just need tweaking. I'd go again!

My husband and I made reservations for our Anniversary, and stated that it was our 25th. Upon arrival, we were seated at one of the worst tables in the restaurant (our table was against a wall, backed up to the bar stools at the rather noisy bar). The candle on our table was never lit, and our waiter was just rude. I left this place with a feeling of such disappointment, and we will never go back. Two different sets of our friends have also had very bad experiences. According to some of the other reviews, I suppose it's possible to have a nice dinner at The Greenfield, but at best it is hit or miss, and for the price, I would not risk it.

Perfect restaurant for the winter season. Such a cozy environment even dining in the cellar. Highly recommend the cheese plate and calamari for appetizers. I had their sea scallops with sausage and wild rice and snow peas and it was amazing. The scallops were surprisingly large and the sausage and rice were seasoned well to compliment the scallops. Great wine list as well, and it was 20% off on our Wednesday visit! High praises all around.

Nothing beats an amazing, local family-owned restaurant & bar, and this one is among the best of the best in Lancaster County. From their wide selection of mouth watering drinks (extensive list of wines, bottled craft beer and inventive cocktails), traditional and fusion culinary delights and amazing service, you'll want to keep coming back...I know I do!

Certainly recommended and worth a repeat visit. Salads with the eggs on top, filet mignon, and lamb chops were all good. As was the chocolate fudge desert. Partnering with local farms is a big plus. Nice place.

Such a cool restaurant! Awesome balcony and basement dining area. Was here for an event with apps and desserts. The crab balls were incredible and had delicious desserts including s'mores and chocolate cake.

First time for dinner and was pleased. Seating in the wine cellar (although cool on a cold night) helped contribute to a good dining experience. Service started slow but ended up a plus with a knowledgable and efficient waitress. Entrees of Rack of Lamb and Pork chop were outstanding although the salads were unremarkable. Finishing off the evening in the upstairs lounge with a piano player topped off the evening. Will return to see if the meats served are always as high quality or an accident.

Something that always amazes me about human nature is that despite being in one of the beef heartlands of the US, where you pass thousands of head of cattle on your way out to Lancaster, people will come to a place like Greenfield and order fish. With no large bodies of water nearby, Lancaster is just not a fish place folks. On the flip side, the steaks and prime rib you'll get here are a major score and as good as anywhere. The rest of the meal was just so-so, but I left a very contented carnivore.

Atmosphere was an 8, food was a 5, service was a 2. Ordered the pate appetizer, it was soupy. Chicken dinner was really salty The hostess was running around frantically but never seemed to talk to any of the guests. I was hoping to provide constructive feedback but was never invited to by a simple "how was everything". Prices weren't bad if the food was good,,,but it wasn't. Go there for a drink maybe but dine somewhere else.

We really enjoy having a bite at the bar while listening to live music. The food is excellent. I especially like the juicy pork chop. The holy grail oysters are the best I've ever had.

Nice intimate bar and restaurant. Interesting menu featuring fresh local produce when available. Great ambiance, friendly, professional staff and live jazz in the bar on Wednesday evenings.

This restaurant has had consistantly great food and continues to be reliable for fine dining in Lancaster. Some of our favorites include the french onion soup, cashew chicken salad, beef sliders, orzo salad, salmon, and we love the filet mignon! They often have great specials and seafood. They have a wonderful wine selection and a beautiful patio when the weather is nice. Most of the time the service is good but I think it could be improved a little. I've heard the brunches are delicious too. This is an old historic home made of beautiful stone and has a really neat wine cellar to visit; I think you can teserve a table there too. Nice place for a romantic dinner, business dinner or a family/ friend celebration. This is a cozy restaurant, between casual to formal, and pretty over the holidays!

Went with my wife because the place looks very nice from the outside and so it is from the inside. Probably great also to be there outside during the summer. Still the price is maybe a bit high for the level of the cooking. It was good but not great, just classic. Another option is may be to go there during a Jazz concert?

Had lunch there yesterday. Nice looking place, ate outside. The service was bad though. Very inattentive, waitress never came back after serving to see if all was OK, never asked for drink refill and I had to leave the table to find her to get the bill. Food was pretty good.

Our worst meal ever here. My wife and I came here for Brunch today. She ordered the French Toast casserole with Amaretto sabayon (description as listed on menu). When it arrived, barely warm, it was raisin toast with an apple compote (neither mentioned on the menu) all over it - no sign of either amaretto or sabayon. Sent it back - same thing came out, just warmer. Waiter tried to explain their previous chef who "had the secret recipe" had left and they were trying to figure it out. My Croque Madame sandwich was to be served with mornay sauce and a fried egg. It came out cold (sauce) to barely warm (hash browns). Sent it back along with French Toast. Second time the egg was so under-cooked the white was still clear. Waiter offered to replace it, but I pointed out no chef should let such under-cooked food out of their kitchen. Waiter comped the French Toast, but never informed management. Disappointing at best. A couple times we've gone places and been dissatisfied and management has obviously told wait staff to inform them of problems so they can be dealt with, but apparently not here. Happened to talk with a friend about this on the way home from the restaurant and they asked how it was. I responded with a variation of the above and they said they've heard that same kind of situation from several other people who have been here recently. I hope our experience is not the norm now that a decent chef has apparently left, because this has been a good restaurant over the years. It will be off our list for a while until we hear better things. There are MANY fine restaurants in Lancaster and the surrounding area that we are glad to support (we eat out frequently, but only post here rarely), but right now this isn't one of them.

Knowing absolutely nothing about the Lancaster, PA area and, on a business trip in the area, I got a recommendation for somewhere 'local' and was referred to this nearby restaurant, set in an old house-type setting. Being Han-solo, I sat at the bar and had a few glasses of Pinot Noir while observing what appeared to be Lancaster's affluent country-club set...skewing older in age demographics mid-50's to early 70's with a few well-cared for Stepford wives thrown in for good measure. With a soft jazz band playing in the corner, to a mix of high tables and white table cloth draped tables, the scene was close to a scene out of CaddyShack minusthe golf course. That said, the bartender was excellent and the menu was surprisingly varied, upscale and unique. I got the tomato bruschetta as an appetizer and a daily halibut special that was first rate. So, overall, a nice culinary surprise but, based on your age and situation, a setting that may not be everybody's cup of tea.

What a cute little inn/restaurant. Had the diver scallops with risotto and a friend ordered their flatbread with coconut cous cous. Scallops were delcious and cooked perfectly but the flatbread dish kind of fell...well flat. Was expecting the coconut cous cous to be more savory since we've had savory coconut rice, but this was really sweet, almost dessert like and was totally unexpected for an entree. Had the pumpkin creme brulee and banana neopolitan. Both were ok desserts.

2nd time dining at this restaurant and enjoyed it both times! The first time for lunch with a group of 7 and this time for dinner with 3 others. The restaurnat is cozy and nicely decorated. My group preferred dining in the bar area. (both visits we were placed in the main dining room and asked to switch to the bar area...they did not mind). Our waitress was excellent! She made it seem effortless and yet took great care of us. I ordered the scallops (came with 4 giant scallops) . One of my friends ordered the crab cakes (came with 2). We traded a crab cake for 2 scallops. It was all very yummy!!! I am always afraid to get crab cakes as I have a favorite place in Maryland. I always compare and always disapointed. But these crab cakes at Greenfield were very good! All 4 of us enjoyed our meals! In fact, we enjoyed the entire dining experience...service, atmosphere, food, wine...just what fine dining should be! I felt bad that the restaurant was very empty for a Thursday night. But it is pricy so it is not the kind of restaurant you go to twice a week. Definately a place for special occasions! Next time I am in town I hope to try a night when they have music! We noticed a sign that said Jazz singer every Wednesday night.

prime rib was fabulous. Servers were friendly and professional - none of that overfriendly crap outback servers do and none of that robot-like "hi, my name is tiffany and i'll be your server tonite." A bunch of friends had our xmas dinner there in a nice private room - everyone enjoyed the food and drinks. A tad pricey but what the heck, it's xmas time. Only drawback was the long trek to the men's room. I had to go down two flight of stairs and practically out the door. i was following this dude with his date. I noted he didn't wash his hands and wanted to let his girlfriend know about his poor hygiene habits but like i said it's xmas time - so i just zipped it.

Dinner was respectable, if a bit overpriced. We had a large party with 8 grown ups and 8 young kids. We were still allowed to break up the ticket into our four families. We were given a private room, and the food was pretty good. One mom had the lamb which she said was delicious. One person ordered the short rib eggrolls and was highly complimentary. The risotto was excellent as well. I had the shrimp bisque. It was a 7 on a scale from 1 to 10. Service was excellent, but a tad slow. We would definitely return.

This is the second time we have been here and it is a top quality restaurant. If you are in the vicinity, you should go there. And if it is a romantic dinner you are after. And you book early enough, you can request one of the two private tables in the wine cellar. The food we had was amazing and whoever the chef is, he/she deserves a lot of praise. The only let down on this visit that precludes five stars was the server. Although he was a little stressed because he told us he was looking after for tables, he was brusque and rude. For example, when we asked what beers he had he listed a lot but then finished by saying "do you fancy any of these yet so I can stop?". When asked for more bread he nodded and then proceeded to drop the bread on the table as he walked by. Lastly, when we asked for my wife's steak to be cooked a little more he didn't say anything. He just picked up the plate and walked off. As the meal progressed he became much nicer and smiled. But it was too late. He had already rubbed the shine off the greenfield inn for us. However everything else is so good that we highly recommend this restaurant. It just doesn't get the five it probably deserves.

Staying at a hotel that was within walking distance and this place looked pretty nice so decided to give it a try. I was very pleased with the experience. The entrees of prime rib and salmon were excellent; the french onion soup was OK. The ambience was very nice but the earlier review about the cookie cutter feel isn't far from the mark. Service was attentive and friendly but a little slow; the place was pretty full and there was a big birthday party going on upstairs so that could explain it. I'd recommend it to anybody passing through Lancaster that didn't necessarily want to do the Amish experience.

The OGI is the best place in town for seafood, hands down. The diver scallops are my favorite, served with a wild mushroom and cheese stuffed crepe, crispy prosuitto and asparagus. It's a heavenly meal. Other seafood highlights include the sake-marinated sea bass and the salmon, which changes preparation and accompaniments daily. Wednesday night is the best night to go as they offer both wild game on their specials menu and provide live entertainment. The "Lovely Ladies of Jazz" features exactly that. Amy Banks is a favorite performer of mine and she is usually there at least once a month. Full bar and excellent dessert menu round it off. Four solid stars.

Staying in the area with friends and we stopped in during a weeknight. It was not busy at all, so I was happy for the quiet atmosphere. But I do not imagine it would be so during a more crowded time. There is a piano area in the main dining room with a full bar area and an upstairs balcony which reminded me of New Orleans. There was another room off to the side that seemed more secluded and quiet. I had the lobster crepe and the rack of lamb. I am sorry to say that that the crepe had too much of a flour taste. The sauce made it edible and of course it had lobster in it. The lamb came cooked rare even though I asked for it medium. I did not want to send it back because it never gets cooked properly after that. The potatoes and asparagus it came with were standard. The Pecan pie was to die for. That alone would have gotten the 5 stars. Would I go back? I don't know? Since I am not from the area- I would certainly try other restaurants around there.

Mediocre to Very Mediocre FOOD. A pureed soup arrived at room temperature(and it was a chilly day), and it was supposed to be hot. At a $$$ restaurant, your soup should at least be hot. A salmon appetizer was good. This was the high point of the meal, but nothing to write home to mother about. The salmon is the only reason I did not assign 1 star. The main course was Prime Rib. Very disappointing. If you have read any of my other reviews, I love meat. This Prime Rib was tasteless, dried out, lukewarm and overcooked. It was supposed to be medium rare but was delivered medium well. This was a one star or zero star main course. ATMOSPHERE. The biggest disappointment. A beautiful, historic house from the outside but inside you could have been in any Holiday Inn or Marriott in America. What a puzzle to me. Whoever destroyed the insides of this place spent money -- it would be in a nice Marriott -- but why? Why not preserve and/or enhance the beauty of America's Heritage, here in the heartland of our country's birth? I cried all the way home.
