Really good food. I was surprised. It's not like a ritzy interior or anything like that on the inside which made me wonder if the food would be good. well, the food was great. we had chips n salsa with guacamole as an app. I ordered chicken quesaadilla and my wife ordered the Chile relino. all of the food tasted really fresh. not processed like most restaurants. we used a restaurant.com coupon but the value there wouldn't be too bad without it. Actually the only reason this wasn't a 5 star is because of the appearance. There's always room for improvement in that regard for most establishments. Again, food was great .

Being hungry for Mexican food in the land of delicious home cooked food is no east feat. Driving down the seedy part of town past the 30 split lies Plaza Mexico, nestled next to a Dollar General store. My girlfriend and I are well versed in Mexican food, since it is our favorite. She got her default Chicken fajitas and I got the special which was described as "two pieces of steak, with beans, rice and flour tortillas", so I went with it. We also ordered guacamole and cheese dip. The salsa was decent and the chips weren't that bad, albeit a little stale. The guacamole was next, since it had to be made. It was ice cold, not sure how they pulled that one off, that too wasn't bad considering it was blender guac. The cheese dip was without a doubt from a jar. Same consistency, not to mention I heard the microwave door close and the timer go off. Out come the entrees. The fajitas were very nice looking, big slices of tomato, onion and green pepper served the usual way, it wasn't all that bad, maybe a 6 out of 10. The special came in a bowl, with a puffy parchment paper covering? I received 5 little nuggets of steak in a red colored liquid and about 15 various sized bay leaves, yuck. The beans and rice were without a doubt in my mind from next door at Dollar General. The rice even had those dehydrated peas and carrots with the wrinkles in it, if you've had cup o noodles, you know what I mean. I tried a bite and it tasted just like a box, the beans were the generic beans from a can, again from next door. We were the only people in there for the entire hour we ate, that seems to be the normal per other reviews. To sum it all up, if you know real Mexican food, avoid this place. if you think Chipotle and Qdoba are the greatest, you'll love it.

I love these random little Mexican restaurants. Plaza Mexico is especially good. Great chips and some excellent salsa are a great way to start the meal. And pretty much everything else my group had was excellent. Definitely worth stopping in and enjoying a great meal.

I wasn't really expecting much based on the plaza this place is located quietly in the corner of had no cars in the lots. Regardless, I thought I'd give Plaza Mexico a chance. It is a little place with not much happening visually, albeit clean, just a small and sleepy little restaurant. However, the waitress was a sweetheart, and when she brought out the delicious chips and salsa, I quickly started waking up. The food tastes home-cooked, rather than restaurant made, which was a pleasant change of pace. The food was delicious. I will be going back.

Had a group of 8. The group ordered nachos which were good, but typical; chips, beans, and cheese. I ordered the fajitas which were very good, although as always ran out of tortillas before the shrimp, peppers, and onions. The didn't offer sour cream or guacamole to place in the tortilla which I was surprised. Service was ok for our large group, however they messed up one order and didn't give everyone their meal at the same time.

Only people in the place. But even with that the food was mostly cold. Chili telenovela was cooked days before and taken out of the fridge. Chips and salsa not free and were thick and stale. My kids didn't even the chicken tenders. Complained food was cold and told it wasn't. Never again

I hope these good people are able to keep this place running. We were there on May 5th (Cinco de Mayo!) and we were the only one's there at about 2:00pm. Pretty decent Mexican food. Homemade tortilla chips, hot, yum. Good salsa. Pico de Gallo style. Not real spicy. Wife had the Bistec (chicken). Fresh tasting, lots of peppers. Good homemade refried beans. I had Chicken Mole. Pretty good tasting. I was expecting the chicken to be off-the-bone (shredded). Instead it was a thigh and a drumstick. Not a real problem but a bit of a surprise. We hade flan for desert. Again homemade and quite tasty. Very friendly and helpful server.

Chips and salsa were fresh, it was nice when they brought out the chips they were still hot. I had 2 Carne assada tacos that were very good, seasoned nicely and overflowing with meat. They came on fresh tortillas. I also had a chicken taco that was as good as the steak. They came with a red sauce that was very good as well as a verde sauce. All in all it was a solid lunch, I would eat here again. The service was nice and attentive, no complaints really.

No atmosphere but really good food. The chips were homemade and seemed cooked to order. They arrived quite hot and the salsa was different but very tasty - not too hot which was fine with me. We'll be returning to try other things. They do charge for the chips, but the prices are quite reasonable.

When looking for a good Mexican authentic restaurant I look for a few standard things, some of which may not bother you so you may enjoy this place more than myself. First thing that I look for is to see if it is busy during dinner time. It was 5:30pm on a Saturday and there was nobody in the restaurant. Secondly, the decor inside was lacking any real theme sadly enough besides the tv on the wall playing shows. Third, the staff, was friendly and attentive enough. Four, the food, the chips cost $2 a basket with a free refill of salsa. The chips were not typical but more like pita chips, and homemade. The salsa was more consistent with a Old El Paso style in texture and flavor. The diet coke I ordered was good and nice that it came with a slice of lime. At many Mexican style restaurants they have sweet ice tea (non-lemon flavor), which this place did not seem to have. The meal - The misses ordered two beef tacos with just cheese. She mentioned that the meat was seasoned well. Each taco came on two corn tortillas. The side of Mex. style rice was lacking flavor, although were fresh. I ordered the Bistec a la mexicana, pork. The meal had an enticing smell. The pork tenderloins were smothered with onions, green peppers and tomatoes. There was a spicy flavor to the first couple of bites but it seemed to be missing something. I too got the Mex. style rice (lacked flavor, yet fresh), and refried beans (typical and pleasant). On the side I ordered a Gordita, chicken with red sauce. This item seemed to have more flavor than the other items I had ordered, possibly because of the red sauce and sour cream. The lettuce was fresh. I am uncertain if the chicken was marinated in anything with flavor or just grilled and chopped up. Based on this visit, I see this as being a one time visit type of place for us. If you are looking for someplace new to try, definitely do so and give your thoughts on your experience.

Having just moved to this area I decided to give this place a try based on earlier reviews. I grew up eating Tex-Mex and like my "Mexican food" spicy. With that bit of history here's my opinion: Service - very good, there was one young woman taking care of the customers. She was the greeter, waitress and cashier and was very friendly. Chips and salsa - The chips were very thick and crunchy (I like mine thin and crispy) and the salsa was sweet and very mild. There is hot sauce at the table that can be used to spice it up a bit. The chips were served at room temperature and probably would have been better if cooked just before serving. Tamales (with chicken) - It was obvious they had just come out of the steamer and were properly made (not too much chicken) and tasted quite good. Soft Tacos with carnitas - very good and obviously just made since they were served nice and hot (temperature not spiciness). They provide 3 to an order and each taco is made up of 2 small corn tortillas, plenty of pork, onion and cilantro. They provided one small slice of lime (one lime slice for each taco would have made them better). A cold beer (Negra Modelo if I had a choice) would have made it better but beer is not an option there. I'll probably be back but I'm hoping to find something better.

I agree with John w. Great food esp the homemade hot out of the fryer tortilla chips. I have been here 5 times never a bad meal and always quite. Lets get these people busy so we can keep great food at a great price. I drive from Chester county for the food. Service friendly. Only one waitress for whole place and I believe she may be owner or related but I'm sure as business improves so will the number of employees. Please try. My children love it!

The food is authentic, homemade and delicious. The chips and salsa are both homemade and very good. Chips come out hot and crispy. I ordered the carne asada soft taco, and a chicken gordita and husband had steak bisteca a la mexicana. Can't tell you which was the best bc each bite was oustanding! Both the red and green salsas are excellent. They also make their own drinks, which the waitress was kind enough to bring samples of since she wanted us to expand our horizons! Which to our surprise were all very tasty. Then, after we had stuffed ourselves we heard about the homemade desserts, flan, ice cream, ... we will be looking for the next opportunity to go. Definitely ranks among the best authentic Mexican in Lancaster. The only drawback... the interior does not provide a lot of ambiance. It is clean but very austere. No booze on the menu and BYOB didn't seem to be embraced yet.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
