Cute concept but terrible execution. We visited late on a Saturday afternoon. We were seated right away. Our first problem was that our waitress wanted nothing to do with us. Took at least 10 minutes for her to come to the table for our orders. When the food finally came it was nothing special. Burger was not cooked properly (ordered medium rare, it was well-done). Fries were good as were the shakes. Once again took forever to get a check and to pay. Overall not worth the money - resist the urge of the cute surroundings.

Ate lunch here on 7-22-2013 & am just now getting around to writing a review. It's a very cute place that I would recommend. We had the Knuckleburger & Chicken Breast Sandwich along with a side of Onion Rings. The restaurant was almost completely empty at the time & our food came out pretty quickly & the service was good. But I was surprised at the prices which were quite high for a place in the middle of nowhere.

I went here while on vacation in the Lancaster area. I actually stayed at the hotel with the attached parking lot, The Country Living Inn. They give you $2 off breakfast for every morning you stay at the hotel, which is a plus. The place looks really sharp from the outside, which is always a plus to me. If they care enough to make it look nice on the outside, the inside and food is generally good as well. Love the retro 50's theme. Inside, you are brought back in time to a 50's malt shop. The decorations on the wall are just plain awesome and really fun to look at while eating. The place was clean as a whistle, no problems here. So the food. I just went there for breakfasts, but they were amazing. Really solid omelets. Not huge things, but really well put together with really good ingredients. The waitstaff was really friendly and helpful. Gave you plenty of time to just hang out if you wanted. Great place. I am assuming really good for lunch as well.

I gave DJ's 3 stars because it's really good - for what it is. It's a burger place, disguised as a diner, with decent burgers, fries, and shakes for dessert in a 50's themed setting. If you aren't looking for more than that, you will be happy here.

I really wanted to give this a 3 1/2. I rounded up because of the service. We went there with another family so we were a fairly large party. We got there on a Saturday shortly before they closed but they were very happy to seat us. Our waitress was extremely friendly and good with the kids. The food wasn't bad. Especially considering how reasonable the prices are. The diner is very small with a 50's decor, but it doesn't really give you a 50's vibe. Could probably work on the execution a little bit. If you're looking for OK food for a good price with fun decor and friendly service, then this is a good place to go. Just don't expect to be transported back to the 50's.

Really good, throwback food, cooked and served fresh (even the kids chicken fingers weren't frozen). Exceptional service. Adorable, clean and very well maintained restaurant. The perfect family place.

Thanks to the reviews here, I've found a new favorite place. We use to go to Fudd Rocker in Rt 30 but t hat place closed. This place was outstanding. The servers, atmosphere and everything else. Food was the best and the shakes were delicious. Will be back next time we visit the area.

Place was very good. Prices are reasonable and the kids loved it. We called ahead and they pushed tables together for our party of 11 at dinner and only had to wait 5 minutes at arrival. Milk shake was a little too milky though.

The staff is super friendly and the 50s atmosphere is fun. Burgers are excellent. Opt for the homemade chips - they're delicious!

Complete tourist trap, not recommended, the music outside is too loud and it is silent with no music and inside. Very limited seating and they ignored us when we walked in for a few minutes then when we were greeted they asked us to stand outside in 90deg weather for them to clear a table. Diner decor but not a diner layout. Nope never again.

Really good cheeseburgers. A little pricey, but a fun atmosphere. Lancaster needs more of these types of restaurants.

Good food, good service, cute decor.

On a family trip to Lancaster, we came across this establishment while looking for local restaurants to dine at. The decor is straight out of the 50's, as you would expect by the name. The servers also dress the part. Of course at a 50's themed burger place, you have to get the burger. I don't live too dangerously, so I got a cheeseburger with just ketchup. It was quite good. My wife ordered the cheeseburger club, which she was a fan of. My 3 year old ordered the grilled cheese and it came in a car as the plate. She enjoyed her food and her car plate as well. If I'm in the Lancaster area, I will definitely be stopping here again. The food was good, the atmosphere is fun, and it is very child friendly.

We walked out of this place, they handed us the breakfast menu, good! By the time waitress to greet us as she handed us a lunch menu then informed us breakfast was over... We waited 15 minutes for her to come to our table. T

The real 50s attitude. The waiters really made the atmosphere a family friendly place. The burger was very good and reminded me of the 50s. The Blt seemed appetizing but overrated. The chicken Caesar wrap was really what made it a four star place. I would go to this place again. Overall this place had the attire of the 50s but a heart of gold.

Great, great, greeat nostalgia! Waitress' wear 50' puddle skirts & Bobbie socks. Burgers & onion rings were awesome and fresh! Definitely a hidden treasure!!!

Did a search of restaurants prior to our trip to Lancaster and came across DJ's and it looked like a cool place so we wanted to check it out. Seated our family right away, with no wait. Food was served quickly, and accurately. Burger was done to perfection! Highly recommend if you enjoy a good burger like myself!

Cute place. Food was good and fairly priced. Milkshakes were good but a bit pricey. Service was friendly. Diner really cute and worth the stop.

Delicious place. Great service and food was great. Go here not to Red Robin. A fun place in Lancaster PA! Great burger!

I get out to Lancaster area at least once a year and have always wanted to try this place. For one reason or another it would be closed on the days I tried. Wish it had stayed that way and I had never gone in. The place had some 50s themed things, but was not set up really like a 50s diner. It seemed like when we first walked in they did not even want to be bothered seating us. Finally after we got our drinks and waited the waitress finally took our order. I know they were busy, but that was no excuse for how long we waited to our breakfast. I never waited for any type meal so long. Finally when I was just about to give up our order came out. My over easy eggs were totally over done. I called my waitress over when I could finally get her attention, and remember this is a very small place. I told her the problem and told her to take the eggs back and to just take the price of the eggs off my bill. She start arguing with me on how she would go get me fresh eggs. First of all I never trust meals that are sent back out and I was not going to wait over another half hour or hour to get two eggs. So again I said just take the price of the eggs off. So without a word she took the eggs and left. A few minutes later the cook came out and apologized and said he would take my meal off the bill. Even though he did that I still would not go back, especially with all the dirty looks I kept getting from my waitress. I am afraid even if I did go back to give it another try it there was even a chance she recognized me she would probably spit in my food with the death stares I was getting from her. She should not complain since my daughter still left her a nice tip.

We live in Lancaster and will never go back to this restaurant. It's definitely a tourist trap. The concept is good, but the execution isn't great. The restaurant looks nice and inviting at first. However, it's small, boxes were laying in front of the counters, and it was too quiet - you could barely hear the music over the conversations at the tables surrounding you. The food is a bit pricey. Though, I'd be willing to pay these prices if the food was good. The menu states clearly that you can only get one refill on a soda. Well, we never even got that with our drinks - but that statement doesn't sit very well with me. You're going to be cheap on one of the cheapest things in the restaurant. You're charged 20 cents each for lettuce, tomatoes, and onions if they're not already on your burger. Now, to the taste of the food. We ordered the loaded cheese fries because they were marked as a signature item. The bacon on top was burnt and we had to scrape it off the fries to make them more edible. While we did eat some of the fries, they were undercooked but the ranch sauce and cheese helped a little. The burgers were very small and bland. We had a few bites hoping the taste would get better, but we couldn't even eat the burger. The chips were homemade, but they were undercooked in a lot of places and had no seasoning. We left quickly to find another restaurant after not eating much of the food. I was also surprised with how slow the service was considering the limited types of items on the menu and the small restaurant space. I think the only thing keeping this place open is the tourists who don't know any better. Never again. Don't waste your time and money here.

What a cute little 50's inspired diner. We came here for breakfast on Saturday. The prices are very reasonable and everything is house made. They even have some good choices for people who like to eat low fat. I had the hot chocolate, biscuits and gravy and hash browns. We will be back.

The food (burgers and shakes) were solid. The exterior seating was cool. But all was overshadowed by over an hour wait due to order mixups. They were unapologetic about the wait and showed zero hustle after we first questioned why there was a wait.

I found this place thanks to yelp, and I decided to go because of the reviews, so here I am writting one. I bought a burger, the menu says they never use frozen pattys, and they right, the burger taste like heaven, with a meat just made it, and the bread too. Amazing. I paid 9 dlls for a burger and fries but it worth it, sure it does!!! This is my new favorite place for burgers. And the restaurant 50's edition is simply amazing.

Probably not the place for you if you are in a hurry! I had the mushroom Swiss burger and it was EXCELLENT! Fries were fresh cut and very good. My husband got club sandwich: "good", and the Mac and cheese: "nothing to write home about". Atmosphere was cool

What a great place! I was in Lancaster for a sporting event and after going to the standard (obligatory ) Pa. Dutch family style places this "find", was truly a gem. The look is a 50's style driving-in dinner. There was a local auto show underway and many where dressed in 50's-60 outfits.. Whole families in fact.. Very cool experiance.. Now to the food! We had burgers fries and shakes! What you would expect in this type of place.. The shakes were old fashioned and very think , the kind that requires a really fat straw and some supper sucking power, my friends. So don't say you weren't warned. =) The burgers were very good, as well as the fries, but it's really about the atmosphere but the food won't disappoint. On my list of places to return to when I am in Lancaster! Enjoy!

I just dined for the first time at DJ's and it was fantastic. Small and definitely crowded, but you could still carry on a conversation without shouting. Decor and food are great, but what made the experience truly exceptional was the outstanding service. Everyone was friendly and accommodating and went out of the way to make us comfortable, even though we walked in less than an hour from closing time with a toddler and an infant (not the quickest customers by a long shot). Menu is limited, but it's a burger joint! Will definitely be back. Thanks!!

If you love the 50s and everything retro, you will love this little gem of a diner in the middle of nowhere. Walking in, you are instantly transported to a decade of poodle skirts, milk shakes and Danny Zuko cool. Everything is authentic here including the food meaning don't ask for wheat bread or sweet potato fries or anything that doesn't require a triple bypass for dessert. I had a burger and fries. It tasted like someone just took a handful of ground beef and slapped it on the grill. It was flavorless and didn't even really taste like beef. I would suggest stopping in for a milkshake but skip the entrees.

Excellent food and 50's decor. It is a bit small so I could see there being a wait during busy times, but it was fine when we went in the winter.
(5)Matthew L.
Friendly staff but unattentive. It took exactly one hour to get our food and then they had the order wrong. To top it off, the burgers were extremely dry and bland. Never again:(
(1)Josh S.
Chicken sandwich and home made rolls were good. Very slow service and food orders took over an hour at 1pm on Saturday with empty tables inside. Plan ahead and don't expect fast service.

Clean clean clean!! The cleanest diner I have ever Bernini or any eating establishment for that matter! Looks brand new it's so clean from the floors to the kitchen to the bathroom! Wow! Great food! Homemade breads and chips!!!! Yum!!! update....good but pretty pricey. 5 is now 4 stars.

I loved this little place!! My husband and I went here for dinner on our most recent trip to Lancaster after it was recommended to us by other tourists we bumped into. Boy were we glad! It's a little off the beaten path - slightly beyond the Route 30 corridor with all the chain restaurants. Spend the extra 5 minute drive and eat here instead. It is quite small, with very friendly staff, and cheery over-the-top 50's decor. Their specialty are burgers and it's easy to see why - it was one of the best burgers I have had. Not gourmet, but simple fresh ingredients on a tasty bun. My husband ordered a bbq chicken melt on Texas toast which was also amazing. Diet-friendly options are a bit limited but include a Turkey burger. My husband and I ordered the loaded fries - and I was a bit nervous because I'm not always a fan of the ladled fake orange cheese. I was pleasantly surprised when the fries came out with real shredded melted cheese on top, and real bacon pieces - no bits! The fries were also seasoned, and served with a Dilly ranch dressing for dipping. Seriously the best loaded fries ever! I ordered a chocolate malt which was also very good, but the fries were really the star for me. I will definitely be back when I am in the area. PS Great place for kids too who each received a balloon upon departure. :)

Stopped in for lunch this weekend and the food was delicious, the service was so friendly and the facility was clean and fun. My Doo Wop burger was juicy and the "homemade" chips were warm and yummy. I think the highlight, however, was the fountain soda - cherry coke made with real cherry syrup! I'll definitely be back!

great little burger joint - stopped there on way to outlets. I got the veggie beef soup - excellent - and the cranked burger with fries. Burger was tasty and the fries just so so. Wife loved her cowboy burger and chocolate malted shake.. Nice 50s atmosphere with music at just the right volume. And the chairs were those shiny cushy kind i grew up with back in the day. i can still picture my mom wipin em down with a dishrag. Bathroom was spotless and the paper towel dispenser was so clean and shiny that i could clearly see my face in it - not necessarily a good thing. however, my wife says there was no hot water in the ladies room - uh oh, food handlers washing hands with cold water....but then again she's a freakin germaphobe. Waitress was super nice and genuine person and wore a 50s hoop skirt. Definitely a place to bring little kids too. Place was packed but still service was pretty quick and prices real reasonable.

Love this place. Cute 50's style down to the wait staff with names such as Laverne or Peggy Sue. Small menu. Delicious shakes, soups, and sandwiches. Burgers are our favs. Fresh everything, made to order. Homemade chips & rolls. Try the breakfast as well!
