Why all the haters? This place is so authentic and amazing!! Chorizo taco? Cactus potato taco?? This place is so much better than El Serrano. the sopa de Pollo is the best I have ever had in a restaraunt. The women who cook are from Puebla, Mexico so really this place is like getting homestyle cooking from your Mama Mexicana. Te amo mucho cocina mexicana!!!!

My husband and I love this place. The food is excellent, the family that owns/works there are super nice. Great place to get authentic Mexican food.

Oh... I'm so glad that I ate here. I'm no expert on authentic Mexican, but I can tell you that this isn't the same menu that you'd find at some Mexican joints, nor is it the American brass-rail version of Mexican. Started with two things off the specials board: Chips with Guacamole, and Posole. The guacamole was divine, some of the best I've ever had. It had the texture of butter at room temperature. The broth in the posole was also excellent, and the hunk of pork in the soup fell apart when touched with my spoon. I regret that I only ordered a cup. My entree was good, not great. I had pork in green chili sauce with zuchinni and cactus. My wife ordered three different tacos and each were just excellent. They have a nice variety of tacos, and you'll be very pleased if your a vegetarian. Their mild sauce reminded me of the red chili sauce common in New Mexico. I wish they'd bottle it and sell it. They also allow you to BYO alcohol. I'll come armed with a bottle of wine next time - and there will be many next times in my future. I'll drive up from Baltimore to eat here on a lazy weekend day. Note that they are closed on Sundays, and close at 8:30 the nights they are open.

i thought the food was hit or miss. i do not recommend the fried steak- i think its called milenasas. its like thin chewy gray dried cow and not good like jerky. when i asked for water they gave disgusting lancaster tap water and it tasted nasty like they got it from a sink. the mexican sodas were pretty good though and its cute inside def feels authentic. service was meh. not the best mexican i ever had but it'll do.

It was good up until I found a hair... ---------- FOOD: I got an enchilada rojas platter and it was certainly unique looking and tasting. As I was about halfway thru I found a big ol hair tangled up in my enchilada. That sucked! I was into this.. Otherwise, it was good.. Just a warning, some of the menu is in spanish. So if you dont have a basic grasp of it, take someone who does. DECOR: Its a small cafe type store with not a huge number of tables inside. Lots of spanish decor. SERVICE: Good. The waitress was nice and charged me half price because of the hair thing. ---------- FINAL THOUGHTS: Would I go back? Probably not. Its just a "hair" out of my usual range, and given that I got a hair in my food on the first try..

I have enjoyed the food here on several occasions. The last time I visited I ran into an old friend of mine. HORCHATA!!!! It doesn't get much more authentic then the horchata. The last time I had one was in southern california. Down there every corner has a taqueria. Hats off to La Cocina Mexicana for letting customers experience flavors most restaurants neglect. See you soon horchata!

Tasty, authentic, reasonably priced. My favorite Mexican restaurant in the area. Try the posole if it's on the special list; it's posole rojo, made with Guajillo peppers. Rare and delicious.

I would have given this place 4 stars because we really enjoy the food...it's delicious. However, we have tried using restaurant.com coupons at this place two times now and both times our bill was much, much higher in the end than it should have been.....and it's frustrating to try to get them to explain what they are figuring into. I know the tip is included, but I'm very good at math and my figures NEVER match theirs.

Great Mexican food. Always fresh and tasty. High quality meats. I get the enchilladas verdes and the guacamole and fresh homemade chips. The fish tacos are wonderful too. This place is BYOB so you can have a cold beer with your food.

La Cocina Mexicana is by far the most authentic Mexican restaurant in Lancaster. It's a small joint with good food. I would highly recommend the El Mexicano taco and other varieties of tacos. Don't forget to try Horchata, the delicious, sweet, Mexican rice drink.

This place is amazing, I love it! My favorite so far is their papa torta though I heard all of their tortas are equally as good.

Agreed; it is authentic!! You can't go wrong with any of the items. I don't know why anyone would get Mexican any where else in Lancaster.

This place deserves 5 stars alone for its authenticity. I would knock it down a star because its salsa isn't THAT amazing, but I just can't do it. Tasty tacos, good veggie options, Mexican soda...this place has it all. And I think the staff/owners are actually Mexican!

I really really enjoyed the food here! Small but cozy, friendly staff and great food. This ranks up there with another restaurant that we like, whose name completely escapes me right now..It is a Mexican Grocery/Restaurant on Dillersville Rd. ( its right in front of Addisu Ethiopian restaurant). Both are very authentic and delicious! I highly recommend La Cocina followed by a walk to Carmen and Davids creamery afterwards for a very nice evening. This restaurant is very very casual.

If you want really good Mexican food, this is the place. Fresh ingredients. The guacamole and chips are a must! Their verde salsa is my favorite. The rice milk is incredible! Great little local restaurant that you should totally try, and that we keep going back to. FYI - on-street parking is hard to come by, so either walk or bike (if you live in the city), or plan to search a bit for parking. You can always park in a garage or lot, but you'll have to pay.

Cocina Mexicana has been on my "To Try" list for a while now. I originally discovered it while driving thru Lancaster. I noted two Mexican restaurants. The first was Senorita Burrito, which I was less than impressed with. It's okay food, but it's really not what I consider to be Mexican - more the upper Californian mexi-styled health-food. So this past week I visited Cocina Mexicana. I was quite pleased. This is DEFINITELY "Authentic". The menu is reasonably priced, tacos ranged from about $1.50 - $2.50. But it can add up quick because there are so many diverse options you just want to try them all. For example, I ordered the following: Carnitas taco, Carne asada taco, pork tamale, a side of rice, chorizo taco, and a taco of potatoes, onions, etc. All were delicious. Though I think in hindsight I should have mixed the last two together. They provided three sauces, (green, a picante, and a red) all were tasty. And they offered to double-up on the tortillas for the tacos (always a plus). I also enjoyed a Jarritos Tamarindo and had a couple dirt-suckers for desert (tamarind/chili powder lollipops). And left quite full, and yet wishing I had room to eat more. *lol* One thing that I really like about Cocina Mexicana is that they have some of the more unusual fair. Tacos filled with potatoes, cactus, onions, beef tongue, etc. *** So it looks like I've finally found a good Mexican restaurant in Lancaster to frequent. Yes, I plan to be back...and often! Five stars, for being about as good as it gets in Pennsylvania.

Really good carne asada taco's. They come with a diced onion cilantro mixture. I added sour cream, avocado, cheese, and pico (which was outstanding). I topped it off with their hot sauce and lime juice. The taco was killer. I also tried the chicken burrito. It was ok, but I wish I had ordered another taco, because it was really really good. If you have a chance to stop in do it, best taco in Lancaster.

I had shredded chicken and chorizo and tacos. It was good. Like the hair man said, it is small, but I didn't find any hair. I'm glad I didn't read this guy's review before I went, because I most likely would not have gone. And I'm glad I did go. I would go here again. And keep going. Until I find hair. Man that sucks. They have lengua there too. Next time i'm going to order some tongue tacos. So tender. Damn Boyee!

i honestly don't understand what the hubbub is over this place. my girlfriend thinks it's the coolest mexican joint in town, and i think, "g-d, i hope not!" i guess i'm spoiled from spending a couple of years in tucson, arizona. there, even the cobbled-together little taco shacks on the street corners sold amazing, cheap mexican food -- and they didn't dumb the flavor down for the gringos. basically, the bottom line is this: their food is OVERPRICED and EXTREMELY BLAND. i got their tinga -- it's a traditional mexican chicken dish. now, chipotle peppers in adobo sauce & cinnamon are CRUCIAL to this recipe (trust me). i could taste NEITHER in the tinga i was served at cocina mexicana -- it basically just tasted like chicken & onions in tomato sauce. you can't fix that with hot sauce, b/c the chipotle, adobo sauce, & cinnamon each add unique and irreplaceable qualities to the taste of the dish. disgustingly flavorless... i may as well just make it at home (thank g-d for the crock pot). the refried beans were thin and watery. bland, bland, bland. also, their portions are WAY too small for the prices they charge! anyway, i don't really see why this place gets such good reviews. the food is boring and flavorless, the prices are outrageous considering the food quality & portion size. i personally wouldn't recommend this restaurant.

Mexican Cuisine

If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.

Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.

Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.
