I came here on the suggestion of other yelpers and I am really glad that I did. I had the lite roast beef sandwich and it was delicious. The aroma of the bakery was hipnotizing. I highly recommend this place for lunch.

The Baker's Loaf is a wonderful little shop to get a great sandwich. Located right across the street from the hospital, it's a good alternative to cafeteria food if you are in the area, otherwise parking is an issue. The Baker's Loaf features Boar's Head meats and cheeses, which are the start of some great salads and sandwiches. During a recent visit I had the Roast Beef Deluxe (, Roast beef, bacon, horseradish, lettuce and tomatoes on Italian Bread) and my husband had a Chicken Club salad (Mixed greens, chicken strips, American cheese, bacon, croutons, mushrooms, onions, cucumbers). They were as good as they sound. As mentioned parking can be a problem, but if you are lucky you can park right out front. The only other issue was the girl behind the register, seem more interested in talking to everyone else around her then taking the order correctly. Oh, well good help is hard to find. If you ever find yourself in the area, I highly recommend The Baker's Loaf for a good sandwich.

While in town visiting family, I was feeling nostalgic and decided to stop by the Baker's Loaf for a late morning breakfast (breakfast is served until 11). Shhhh, don't tell mom but, when I was running late in the mornings and knew I was going to be late for school, I would stop at the Baker's Loaf for breakfast. An extra half an hour really wouldn't make a difference if I was already late, right? :) Good thing I was a stellar student. When we arrived, the restaurant looked a bit different than I had remembered it. Looks like they may have done some remodeling over the last 14 years. (It's been awhile.) I sat at an empty table and was presented with the breakfast menu. The menu is small but has all of the basics-egg dishes, french toast, pancakes and waffles. The prices are very reasonable! I believe everything is under $6! (No wonder I could afford to eat here as a high school student). I opted for the two slices of french toast with a meat option-bacon. I also ordered the one waffle for my 2 year old. While we waited for our food, I sipped on a hot chocolate made with skim milk. The food arrived quickly and we dug right in. The waffle was adorably shaped like a flower. The French Toast was made of thick cut bread. My only suggestion is that they allow the thick bread to sit in the batter a little longer in order to really soak up the delicious flavors. The middle of the French Toast was a little dry. Overall, the Baker's Loaf did not disappoint. I was able to momentarily relive my past and get a great start to my day. I even snagged a bag of popcorn and some quality Boar's Head meats for later in the day.

I love this place, both for the AMAZING breakfast sandwiches (served only till 11:00 a.m.) and for the lunch fare (which on my most recent trip included complimentary fresh-popped popcorn)! Go with Gobbles & Grains if you like turkey - the combination of cranberry sauce and cream cheese on soft 7 grain bread is divine! The gourmet cookies are worth the price, but I was disappointed with the dry, flavorless biscotti.

Love this place! Fantastic food and baked goods. Even good selection of deli items. And you can buy gourmet dog treats! Which was an even bigger surprise.

The Baker's Loaf is one of Johnstown's little gems, which is a full fledged bakery with some of the best tasting breads, pastries, bagels, cheesecakes and cookies you will ever try and it is a full service deli featuring Boar's Head meats and cheeses which are sliced to order. The aromas are tantalizing and if I could bottle the air and have it piped into my home, I would be as fat as a cow just thinking about this place. There are plenty of tables to sit down and have breakfast or lunch, but they do have a lot of traffic with it being located directly across the street from the only hospital in town. With my mom and brother being in and out of the hospital over the past few years I got to sample quite a few goodies. To start, their freshly made breads and rolls are the crown jewel of the sandwiches and when they fill the bread, they are not the least bit shy, layering chunky homemade chicken salad, piling high with shaved ham, turkey, pastrami, corned beef, roast beef, tuna, grilled chicken and a vast selection of cheeses and everything is made to order, so it can take a bit of time, but it is so well worth it. I tend to get stuck on one thing that I try and stick with it, but watching them make all of the different sandwiches helps to encourage you to move on to the next. Their bagels are as good as any I have had in NYC and toasted hot and slathered with jelly and cream cheese was the way I went, I love the breakfast wrap, filled with scrambled eggs, sliced ham, peppers, onions and Jack cheese, which comes with fresh fruit salad and juice. I never left empty handed, buying freshly baked muffins, cookies and pastries to share. They have so many choices for sandwiches, wraps and salads, my favorite breads are the French Parisian, the Italian forcaccia, rye and the sour dough botard, but the list goes on and on with many whole grain breads, marbled breads and pumpernickel. They make an awesome Reuben with very lean corned beef, I love the pastrami sandwich, which can be served warm with spicy mustard and Swiss cheese melting all through it, yum! My very favorites were the lean roast beef with bacon, lettuce tomato and horseradish on Italian bread and the prosciutto caprese which has layers of prosciutto ham, fresh mozzarella and tomato with vinaigrette dressing on an Italian bread. Oh and I can't forget to mention they make various muffalettas, including a grilled vegetarian one. They open at 6:00am, Monday through Friday, open at 8:00am on Saturday and close at 4:00pm, closed Sundays. This seemed to become our gathering place when we needed a break and our tummies were rumbling, I would venture to say that we tried almost everything on the menu, I do know that my brother was hooked on their Philly cheesesteak wrap and I still need to give that one a try. Don't forget to ask about their boxed lunches, a half sandwich with a side salad, fruit, pasta, drink, although they have various combinations, but it's a great deal and they do catering trays and gift baskets. Although the cafeteria food at the hospital is not too bad, this is a thousand times better and the cost is comparable, not to mention it is a breath of fresh air.

Great food but has bankers hours. If you are lucky enough to catch them open then it is amazing food. The grilled Hawaiian Maple sandwich is one of the best sandwiches I have ever had in my life.... And I travel a lot. Order one at your own risk... Very addicting and you will be mad when you show up and it is closed. Lol. (Happened to me 4 times...really 4 times)
