This is an exciting new choice to the downtown Johnstown area! It is so nice to have something other than pizza and subs there. The owners add a many little details to create a wonderful dining experience. We went for the first time on a Saturday night. By the time we left, there was a nice crowd at the separate bar in the entrance. Everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves. Restaurant is behind bar and is very comfortable and inviting. Dining room was full by the time we left, but did not have that terrible, echoing noise that seems to dominate the restaurant scene these days. Menu looked wonderful with a good variety of seafood, pasta, beef, great appetizers and salads and sandwiches. My husband started off with a Cosmoplitan, which he said was good. The bread was brought to the table hot, and was a choice of 2 types of rolls, with a small pot of butter which was very soft. This was so much better than having to fight to butter bread with cold butter! I had a small greek side salad and he had a caesar. They were both good, but had special added touches; 2 small pita wedges with the greek, and these wonderful anchovy toasts with the caesar. We ordered the prime rib for dinner, as it was the special on Saturday nights. It came with a baked potato and sauteed squash with onions. Neither of us wanted the potato, and they were very accommodating about giving us a double order of the squash instead, which was delicious. The prime rib was also very good..very flavorful ,and a nice cut that was not too large. It came with au jus, and we were offered horseradish sauce, which my husband said was also very good. We skipped dessert for 2 reasons--too full and only choices were a chocolate cake, carrot cake and cheesecake. I do not think any of them were homemade. It would have been nice to have more choices. The restaurant was full by the time we left around 6:30, which was a good sign. We will definitely be back. There were many dishes we wanted to try. They have only been open a few weeks, but seem to have all of the kinks worked out already. I hope they continue to do well!

The food was very good, but service was slow. It seemed as though the waitresses were not experienced. You can have a nice dinner or a sandwich. Menu offers both. Place has potential.

We got a gift card to go here, so decided to try it out. The restaurant is beautiful, but seems like too many tables crammed into a small space. The servers were constantly trekking by our table on both sides. It was very distracting. The service is fairly slow. Our waitress was very nice. My husband's meal was stolen by the bartender, so we had to wait an addition 15 minutes for his food. The food was very good, albeit a bit on the pricier side.

Stopped by RJs the last 4 weeks at least once a week and this place is GREAT... Service is awesome. Stopped here on 6/19 for the 2year anniversary party and talk about a GREAT time. Great music and people dancing and having a awesome time. Def one of those nights I will not forget at this place. RJs is worth checking out make sure you try a Jager Shake.. My friend and I told them about this shot and they make them perfect every time

I wanted to like this place so much more than I did. We got there right as a birthday party was ending. The place was practically empty except for our group of 3, and 3 other tables. First, they didn't have any of the specials that were on the menu board out front, or half of the things we asked for off of the normal menu. Then it was just over an hour between ordering food and getting our food. Noone stopped by to check on us, or mention that the food was taking forever for X reason. We noticed another table having the same issue. Once we got the food, it was pretty decent. However, 2 pasta dishes and a piece of grilled chicken shouldn't take an hour. Especially in an empty restaurant.

The atmosphere is nice and retro. A very classic look. They had no drink menu, no wine menu and when asked for a few drinks they didn't have those. The risotto balls (appetizer) were delicious but, the main course was horrible to say the least. With 2 different meals ordered and neither one being up to par I was very dissatisfied with our experience. The steak was like leather and for the prices I expected Higher quality food. The bartenders were very nice and friendly. So that was a pro to the overall experience. Would I go back? Probably just for a drink. I will no longer eat there.

My son and I were at Thunder In The Valley this past week. We are not regulars to the area so while standing by our bike we turned and went into the nearest place. Upon entering the staff greeted us immediately and we felt like regulars right from the get go!! The staff can't be beat, friendly, and engaging, like we have been coming here for years. My son ordered the Suppli di Telephone and I got the Spicy Italian Sausage Balls for apps. Excellent taste and very fresh. My son had the French dip and I had the fried chicken sandwich. My son said his sandwich was excellent. While having thought I only ordered a fried chicken sandwich what's to really expect, I would have to tell you IMO it was one of the best I have had. Very good flavor, I'm told their breading...I was very happy. If back in Johnstown I'll be back for sure.

Great place to have dinner. I had the ribeye and it was cooked to perfection. You should try it out sometime.

Awesome food so worth it! I had one of their sandwiches. My friend Ordered an entree which looked just as excellent. I would definately gone here again!

Stopped for drinks and snacks last week. A near perfect fruity drink and a salad that was fresh and different with fruit, feta and a light vinegrette. The bartender waited on us since it wasn't very busy...just enough attention.

Really nice place. Bartender was really nice and professional; so was the rest of the staff. Really enjoyed the music the owner had playing and from what the bartender told me, the owner had compiled the music cd. I also enjoyed the various pictures on the walls from the past. Great photography. And, I was really lucky to have had the chance to have seen newspaper pages from 1952! I was truly amazed between the pictures and the newspaper pages. The bar is in the front and, it has a restaurant on the back. Even though I didn't order any food, I did notice the food was well made, appealingly presentable and, people whom were eating right at the bar itself had expressed it was really good. All I had myself were two beers, Sam Adams, of course. I would've rather dark Sam Adams beer but, light was fine. Yesterday, was my first time there and, I really enjoyed it. I'm looking forward to visiting again. Thank you.

RJ's is a great place for lunch or dinner. All of their sandwiches are top notch, and taste great. The bar is nicely set up, with a part of it in its own little private section that is curved so if you have a group, you can all sit at the bar and still easily talk to each other. The wait staff is friendly, too. RJ's is a perfect step up in quality from Subway across the street if you want something a lot nicer but still in the sandwich realm of foods. I took away a star because the biggest problem at RJ's is wait time for your order. It often takes 20 to 30 minutes for your food to come out, even if it isn't busy, and if it is busy, I have personally waited almost an hour for food. If they can do something about the wait time there, they would get 5 stars, no problem.

Well....I would say that they are trying...I think? Went there when they first opened and took much too long to get the food and the order was incorrect. Have been back twice since and most recently the same issues that were evident from the beginning still showed. The staff seemed nice, however for the price they charge for the items on the menu neither the quality or the service are on par. My suggestion would be to go with plenty of time and money, and be prepared to get a plate that makes you wonder why its so expensive. On a sidenote, the restaurant is somewhat small so if you dont have a reservation be prepared to "be accommodated" if possible. Maybe they should have used some of the bar area to focus more on what should have been the dining area. I wish I had a reason to go back, but for now I cannot say I do.

Can be slow for lunch service when they are busy. Over time co-workers and I have tried most of the sandwiches and everyone has agreed they are excellent.

Yumo! Great little spot in down town Jtown. Went with my family for some dinner this evening and it was lovely :) Our waitress was warm and very friendly. Our food was excellent. I had the diver scallops with risotto and it was delish! Mom had the Manhattan dip (french dip with brie and onion jam) which was also fab (loved the sweet and salty combo). We'll definitely be back! Nice work RJ's! You're building a fan base :) ps. the bloody mary was to die for. FILLED with veg/fruit and lots of horseradish. Yum!

Food is above average but waiting 35 minutes for your first drink and over an hour for your food puts a damper on the experience. Hopefully it's just growing pains and they can iron out their service problems.

I have been to RJ's twice since their opening- once for lunch and once for dinner. The pros include a great atmosphere, excellent food, and location (let's hear it for downtown revitalization!). This is a great place for a nicer business lunch or a date. There aren't many cons as far as I'm concerned. Some people might not like the parking situation (only street), but it really isn't hard to find a space downtown- especially after 5p. Also, the prices are a little high, but you get what you pay for and it is definitely worth it. On a personal note, I did have bad service when I had dinner there- the waitress forgot both our appetizer and drinks. These are pretty forgivable offenses, but it was a bit annoying when she was unapologetic when it was brought to her attention. The bar area is very nice. The bartender the night we were there, Joey, was prompt and friendly. The jukebox is a nice addition.

The best but also the most expensive lunch I've had in Johnstown. Had their special, didn't realize it came with brussel sprouts. I hate brussel sprouts. It's the only vegetable I hate. I LOVED THEM! I don't know what they did but they were fantastic! Asked for tartar sauce for my fish and discovered I didn't need it, it was so good I didn't want anything to interfere with the flavor. I wanted to sit there and eat with my eyes closed and moaning it was that good. Atmosphere was extremely nice, booth was so comfortable. Service was perfect, friendly and speedy. Creme bru le was to die for. Only negative was my total cost was $25 for a lunch for one. So delicious though!
