Been a fan of Tony's since my childhood growing up in N.E. Philly. We would visit Tony's on a Friday nite for that dee-lish Tomatoe Pie. All these years later, it's still dee-lish, and I can now get it in my neighborhood instead of trudging down to Philly, where the neighborhood is......eh? Anyway, Tony's in Ivyland is nicely appointed, with a nice bar, TVs all around (great for watching sporting events), a separate dining area, and an outside patio/bar which is boffo. We still go for the Tomatoe Pie, but they also serve up some terrific sandwiches and entrees. Their chili is also really good, better than my made-from-scratch. Nice micro-brew selection. Service is always accomodating and smooth. They have a separate entrance if you're doing take out. A regular spot for us!

I've been here a few times since I originally reviewed it, and now this is one of my favorite restaurants in the area.

Not sure what happened to the quality of food served at Tony's. It used to be very good, but in the last couple of months we've been there twice and found the food average at best. Great selection of menu items but the quality is lacking. With that said, I still love the atmosphere & really enjoy the outside patio. It is definitely worth a try, weekends are busy so enjoy an adult beverage, sit back & people-watch if the sports on the many televisions aren't your thing!

Great hangout. Bartenders are friendly. My staples: clams casino, wings, tomato and mozz stack with crab meat, scallops with risotto special Pizza is always great.

Food isn't too bad. The service is so-so. It's nice to sit outside when it's nice out and it's fun to see the bartender sing at karaoke.

Very nice meal. Pumpkin ravioli and scallops with broccoli rabe, left the plate as clean as when they plated it!

We will not be returning. This was my second time there, I chalked up my first experience to a "bad night." Not so fast. Dinner for 4 this evening and NOBODY liked their meal. The waitress was great but didn't comment when she took away 4 still almost-full plates and we requested that nothing be wrapped.

I've been here a few times and have never been disappointed. The food is always delicious and the service is always good.

Had one of my bday dinners here (it's a week-long holiday for me), and I thought it was good, but could have been very good, had I made better choices from the menu. The decor is nice and modern, and is particularly dramatic if you've have the [mis]fortune to visit the place that previously occupied this space (The Ivyland Cafe). When I walked in and saw the open, spacious layout with cleanly set tables, I was sure they had razed the placed and built it anew -- turns out it was just the world's largest rehab job. Nice work there, for sure. They also have a beautiful outdoor seating area. They have a fabulous beer selection and seem to offer beer dinners sponsored by local breweries. Being a beer geek, this is a huge plus for me. The food is where I believe I made a misstep in my ordering. I got guacamole appetizer, whose presentation was absolutely beautiful. Isosceles, tri-color, homemade chips rose vertically from a generous sea of guacamole, evocative of a craggy cliff disappearing into sea below. OK, that was a little dramatic for a description of tortilla chips, but you get the idea. The taste though, was not on par with the stunning presentation. They were somewhat bland. For my main course, I got the margherita pizza; same deal -- look beautiful, tasted a little bland. BUT! but...I saw the regular cheese pizza ordered by others at our table, it I am positive I should have ordered it. It looked delicious, and we had confirmation of this from our fellow diners. So, overall, I think I owe Tony's another try. I will check it out again and report back. In the meantime, I would say it's worth a try.

Was the food fantastic? I don't know. I doubt anyone goes here for the food. Like most of the patrons, I was a little tipsy when my chow arrived. But it's not about the food anyway. It's about this: A Friday evening -- the joint is packed inside and out. No one in our party of five had to utter, "Where is our waitress?" No one had to wait for a drink. No one got cold food (which, if memory serves, tasted fine). No one got the feeling, over about a six-hour stay, that we were getting stink-eye from any of the staff or that we'd bogarted our table long enough. Also: free valet parking. The temperature dropped and we were freezing our cabooses off. The staff was totally cool with us moving our little party inside the heated tented area. New waitress was just as attentive as the first. Bonus: Even though the place was hopping, there was a definite sense of decorum. Yeah, there were drunk people but no one was puking in the ladies' room, no one was crying at the bar and no one was stumbling around the patio area. There was also lots of elbow room even though it was really crowded. Overall: Great place for a happy hour. I'll have to go back at another time to get a fair read on the food.

Best happy hour of all time. In history. All of history's time. While I've eaten dinner here, I won't really be concentrating on the entrees in this review. Instead, I've got to focus on the 1/2 price drink/app happy hour. Okay, you've heard of those deals before. But not for what you're drinking here. Sure, you can get a lager for a song, but the real treat is, say, a $2.50 for a Ruination. $3 for a Nugget Nectar. $2.50 for a Hop Rod. $3 for a Hop Slam. It's insane, this place. And while a few of their bartenders don't seem to know what a good thing they've got going, others totally recognize the great selection and knowledgeable beer people. I only have two frustrations with Tony's Place. First, while it has most bottles/drafts listed on the menu, there is usually a second menu with special bottles/drafts. This second menu isn't always provided (even upon request,) so it's as if the bar won't tell you what it serves. For example, I know that Tony's has Russian River Supplication in bottles. If you'd never been there, however, and didn't get the special menu, you'd have no idea to order it. Another frustration is how Tony's deals with exceptions to the happy hour pricing scheme. Sadly, a few things (like the aforementioned Supplication) are excluded from the 1/2 price deal. For some beers, there will be an asterisk next to the beer to indicate that it is not 1/2 price at happy hour. To my GREAT annoyance, with every reprinting of the menu, there are a few beers that are full price even though there is no asterisk next to them. Whoever makes the menu makes this mistake over and over and over again. Still, these quibbles are minor when you can go to a local and do a vertical tasting of the Fullers Special '09 and '08, on a whim, as I did a few months ago, for around $10.

Don't even try to come here with kids. This place is anti-family. I've been coming here since they opened and all of a sudden we get asked to leave because my kid has plastic spikes on. I've been coming here after every weekend soccer game. It wasn't like we were going to scratch their concrete patio. Last time I ever come here. The blonde hostess was extremely rude tonight!

We have been going to Tony's for years and still enjoy the best pizza in Pa! The service is great and a fun place to visit, and a happy St Paddy's day to all. Make it a point to visit Tony's!

  • Trish S.

Tony's is great! Their pizza is really great- we ordered the white pizza, and it was greasy (like typical white pizza), and we were able to order a couple of different ciders. The bartender was funny, and did something to make every customer laugh. The place was very clean, and the staff were clearly enjoying themselves (when the staff is having fun, it give the place a happy atmosphere). The outside seating is very quaint, a nice place to hangout on a summer night!

My wife and had dinner last night. I asked the waiter I wood like to have the gnocchi dish. My wife and I decided to order the same dish. I asked the waiter to please ask for light sauce . When I order came. They served me alot of sauce. I realized why this happened. THE GNOCCHI WAS BURNT. THE SAUCE TASTED AS IF IT CAME OUT OF A CAN. I enjoy the atmosphere. But you better get your kitchen in line.....I hear often you food is failing. Don't fall on way side as family's place in Mayfair.

  • M.j. M.

Went there for the first time tonight. Food was great, and the service was just as good! My wife had a beer that she didn't care for, and the waiter replaced it for her. Happy Hour prices were awesome! $2.75 for a Firestone Walker Opal. We got 4 different craft beers and that was the most expensive. These were goblets either; they were pints. We will definitely be back!

I have been here twice now and the food was great both times. They have a nice outdoor atmosphere where you can eat and drink. The food comes out pretty quick and all of the wait staff is friendly from what I have seen. As most bars they always have drink specials on certain days and they don't over charge for their drinks (they are normal priced). Overall It's a nice place to eat and drink! The only problem I have with this place is there is no lighting in the outside eating area. Once the sun goes down you pretty much have to use your cell phone to see the menu and your food which is annoying. That is really my only complaint about Tonys. Oh and good luck finding parking. They offer valet parking but if you are looking on your own good luck. Small parking lot; not big enough for the restaurant.

  • Mike C.

I love this Place! Awesome bartenders, great outdoor patio bar that is also open in winter, and great food! I love the thin crust pizza, Sweet potato gnocchi is a seasonal favorite! Friday nights get packed so get there early.

My husband and I have been to Tony's Place twice over the past month. Our first experience was less than perfect. The sangria was watered down and the meal I ordered (steak) had a gross sauce on it which also covered the mashed potatoes completely. I could barely eat anything and the waitress never even asked how our meal was. My husband didn't enjoy his food either, and we pledged not to go back. However, the second time we returned (with a few friends who chose the restaurant) was slightly better. The food was good, but the service was not so great, as the server forgot silverware and barely checked on us. I ordered a chicken cheesesteak which was decent. The only reason I'm not rating this place 1 or 2 stars is because of the great Mother's Day Brunch that I had there a few years back - that was a great experience. I feel that Tony's Place has a lot of potential and needs to work on service and food presentation in order to be a great place.

Been here numerous times for the great happy hour. 1/2 price beers, wine and most appetizers. Pizza is thin and crispy. .delicious. Most of the other food sounds good but doesn't live up to descriptions. ...grilled asparagus with pecans, shallots and oranges was barely cooked, certainly had never seen a grill ,served with canned mandarin oranges, red onion and chopped pecans. Crab cakes with greens and mustard aioli were acceptable at half price but the mustard was more like what is served in a Chinese restaurant, overwhelming any crab flavor. Outside patio is pleasant when the weather is nice.

  • Jeff A.

Great food, excellent tomatoe pie. Great outdoor patio seating. They have free valet parking on weekends. Plenty of beer selections. My only criticism is not on them but the A-holes who park in the two designated takeout only spots who are dining in. Their cars deserve to get keyed!

  • Holley R.

We sat at the outdoor bar. It's a very laid back atmosphere with 2 T.V.'s, to watch sports. We ordered a pizza and I had a salad with Tuna. It was good, but nothing I couldn't wait to have again. It's a cool place to stop for a quick lunch when in the area, but I wouldn't go out of my way to return. The indoor restaurant is elegantly decorated. I wouldn't mind trying dinner there one time.

    (3)
  • L.M. Z.

I really like the pizza from here. If you're familiar with Tony's pizza in Mayfair, then you know. If not. It's thin crust, sauce on top. Perfection. My husband ordered a burger & fries. He really enjoyed it. It's decorated nicely and they have lots of outdoor seating. Wish we tried this place out sooner.

  • Nicole M.

I love this place and can't come here enough. The food is always excellent and the beer list is usually worth checking out. I've been here when it's overly crowded and the service hasn't always been exceptional, but it's to be expected. I will be coming back here in the near future, keep it up Tony's!

Tony's place is simply an awesome place to get some real good food. I've driven passed Tony's so many times and I would tell myself that I have to try it someday, every time. So finally I tried it with some friends on a beautiful, sunny and cool Saturday afternoon. We sat on the patio and I ordered their famous tomato pie. I like to think of myself as somewhat of a pizza-snob and I must say this was one of the best pies I've had around. Their tomato pie was super thin, crispy and really had the perfect tomato sauce to cheese ratio. Tony's is a great place to go with friends or family to get a real nice meal with the atmosphere to match. Definitely recommend dining here!

Last month our friend had a birthday dinner at Tony's, and we joined for drinks and dinner. Our friend had made a reservation for an outdoor table, but when the day ended up being much colder than anticipated, and the patio ended up not being opened, rather than reserving us a table indoors, the management simply cancelled the reservation, and placed us on the regular to-be-seated list when we got there. Two hours later, we were seated. Granted, we enjoyed good company and a couple of appetizers at the bar while we waited, but the way management handled the reservation situation was completely unacceptable. Once we were seated, our service and meals were fine. But the poor handling of the reservation is enough to make sure I don't waste my night here again.

Tonys Place has great drinks, fun atmosphere, and always packed! Bartenders are friendly, make great recommendations, and are fast to pour you a drink. Wife loves the ever changing martini menu and I like the rotating beers on draft. They seem to have an event on the horizon every month and look forward to trying one soon!

Cool atmosphere, live music. Tried the wings, since the menu hyped them up. But they sucked. Won't try them again just tasted like they were from a random pizza shop. The yuengling was good so they had Clean beer lines. My buddy got the crab cakes and liked them. Menu is a little pricey. Service was good

I grew up near the original Tony's. Love having Tony's Ivyland in my backyard. The food is always delish. The tomato pie is perfect. But love the seasonal menu the chef creates. The variety and depth of flavor make this so much more than a bar and pizza place. In warm weather it is wonderful to sit outside and enjoy meal and music. The appetizers are wonderful. Also a nice place to hear music on a weekend night inside.

Atmosphere is nice but the food is just average and overpriced. They usually have a great beer selection however they seem to always be out of the beer I want to try.

  • Veronica K.

They would have a good selection of beer - if there was anything that wasn't kicked. One of the people I ate with and myself were told to pick a new beer about five times, because everything we ordered was kicked or out of stock. They could've pointed this out on their menu and made things easier. We had terrible service. Our waiter was pleasant but extremely slow, and there was barely anyone there. The hosts are another thing altogether; I got there late trying to meet up with my group, and when I got to the front the hosts just glanced at me before continuing their conversation. Completely ignored me. So I just walked back and found my friends. Food was meh. The ambiance was really weird. The pizzas didn't look that good. Don't think I'll return here.

  • Rcktmann L.

Good atmosphere but the food is nothing great. Had the pulled pork but one major thing it's not pulled pork! It's pork cold cuts drowning in barbecue sauce that had way too much black pepper. Also had the filet sliders that looked like burnt left over trimmings and the crab cake was so so. I wasn't expecting a gourmet meal but really if your menu says pulled pork it shouldn't be cold cuts and if it says filet it should be ( note I do butcher my own meats from time to time)

We have driven past this place for years but tonight we decided to stop in for dinner. The outdoor patio was delightful in this weather and the food was good overall. Caprese salad and spicy tuna appetizers were very good (white and regular balsamic vinegars in the dressing were a nice touch). The Kobe burger and the flank steak were nicely done; the veal Marsala was less successful. Service was attentive but not annoying. The tomato pie is supposed to be a specialty and the ones we saw passing by looked tempting. Next time!

Pizza is good but everything else is pretty mediocre. Usually we get pizza, wings and fries . The wings are always a let down unfortunately . On the plus side they do have a great beer selection

  • Tim W.

I'm a big fan of this place for the pizza. I grew up in Philly not far from the original Tony's Place on Frankford Avenue. Although I don't think the pies here are as good as the ones at the old place, they are still a cut way above anything else you find out here in the bucks county burbs that advertises itself as "thin-crust-pie." We've also taken the kids there and eaten in several times - never disappointed in the food we've sampled, although it's a bit pricey for what you are getting. Also, the kids they have serving there are nice, but a bit raw.

Was not impressed. Had a big party but waitress was surly, out of many of the beers on menu, and one meal was messed up twice. Won't be back. ..

We stopped in yesterday (Monday) for a few drinks. We sat at the inside bar. Our bartender was very friendly. They have a small draft beer selection (4 rotating craft?) plus a fairly decent craft bottle selection. The prices on the per-glass wine offerings are reasonable. I ordered the 12 piece buffalo wings. They were good. If I had to make a comparison, the wings are similar to Curran's Irish Inn and Byrne's Tavern. Kate had a salad, she liked it. (the white balsamic vinegar garlic dressing is very good). We like the thin crust tomato pie (sauce on top/cheese on bottom)...... I see that one of the previous Yelpers has indicated you can order a 1/2 & 1/2 with one side of mozzarella on top of the sauce, we will have to try that. The outside patio is very nice/relaxing. We like Tony's and will continue to return if we are in the area. A solid 3.5 stars.

So I recently read a review about a bad mojito??? Put it to the test (also a bartender btw) Lauren made a killer mojito. Even asked me how sweet id like it. Nice touch. Tom very friendly and helped with everything. Lime. Simple. Mint. All that good good. My daughter (12) and I grabbed a table. Brittany was our server and she was on top of everything. Excellent pizza. Fun apps. Five stars!

Extremely slow service when there were hardly any customers. Waiting 5 minutes to be seated by a rather bored looking host. Waited 10 minutes to see a waitress. Finally asked bored host to find me a waitress. * Should have left * Received completely meh food. Waited 15 minutes for check. When I was clearly done. When I asked to see a manager, i explained to her my experience and her immediate response was how busy they were. I'm not sure if we were in the same building but it was 2:00 on a Thursday. No excuse. First response should have been "Sorry for the delays". Posted on facebook about it, and 2 other people said they had the same experience. Maybe for a beer or to sit outside it would be ok, but a lunch for one person and just a wrap order it should not take 1 1/2 hours. If the food was fantastic, I would give it 3 starts. You can't fail on EVERYTHING!

Tony's is great. For starters, they have ample outdoor seating both under an awning and freestanding tables. Service: Our service was pretty good. No complains. And, the restaurant was very busy while we were there. Food/Drinks: Tony's makes a mean dirty martini. My friend and I both really enjoyed our cocktails. I would go as far as to say that it's the best martini I've had in months. I got a grilled balsamic chicken and mozzarella sandwich. It was pretty good. The chicken was kind of dry but the bread and cheese and balsamic made it all a nice mix. It came with parmesan fries. They were too good. I could eat them every day and would in turn gain another human's worth of weight. My friend got the rib eye. She's a tiny little girl and she ate the entire thing because it was so good. If I'm back out in Ivyland I'd definitely go to Tony's again.

There is really only one reason to go to TONY's Place and that is for their famous tomato pie. We actually like to get a 1/2 & 1/2. That's 1/2 tomato pie (which, btw has cheese on it - provolone beneath the sauce) & 1/2 cheese pizza ( with mozzarella on top of the sauce!). The crust is nice & crispy & the pies come out steaming HOT. They are reasonably priced too - about $11 for a large pie. The WINGS are good too but all their other menu items are "just ok". They do have a nice beer selection and carry many craft beers. So if you want pizza & beer this is the place to come........

This has to be my favorite bar in this area. The bartenders are always friendly, and the outdoor space is wonderful. Given the choice between indoors and out, I will choose out every time. Whether it's a quiet night, or packed to the gills the service is always great. I haven't sampled much of the menu, but everything I've had has been well made and flavorful. If you're just looking for a good bar snack, both the pizza and edamame are tasty.

WARNING: PLEASE READ. As someone who was a server/bartender/manager in the restaurant business, and part time critique in the hospitality industry, I have come across a situation at "Tony's Place" that has been a FIRST in my entire experience. A dear friend and I met for drinks and appetizers, to catch up. We asked our server how the mixed drinks were here, he said great, we ordered double mojitos (after he let us know they are very good here). When we got them, they were served in large white wine glasses, but we decided to let it go since we did see mint floating in them and decided to give it a go. There was NO flavor except for rum (the mint was not muddled to release the mint flavor and there was no simple syrup). We really tried to deal with the drink, even added 3 sugar packets, which did nothing since sugar does not dissolve in ice cold drinks. We let our server know that they were not good, and asked for a white wine and tomato juice/vodka to be safe. WHAT HAPPENED NEXT WAS SHOCKING AND EMBARRASSING!!! 5 minutes later the server comes back with the mojitos!!??!! He said that we need to try them again, since we ordered doubles they can't replace our drinks, and the bartenders poured half of the mojito out and poured triple sec and sprite - WHAT?? We were just told that our mojito that we no longer was partially replaced with 2 ingredients that DO NOT belong in a mojito. We tried it to be courteous (since we were still in shock) and we still obviously did not want it. The server stated that he needs to get the manager. In the mean time, the bartender starts talking to us from across the room, asking us how we like the "improved" concoction, which at that time I let him know that the first one was not a mojito, and the second was a complete insult - to which the bartender states "you don't know a mojito then". WOW. The manager comes over, and at first he basically told us since we first ordered doubles we had to pay for them, to this I replied with letting him know how his bartenders just poured out half of it, replaced it with soda, and sent it back to us. Thankfully his customer service kicked in, he spoke with the bartender, we not only didn't pay for the 'faux-hitos" but he also bought us the new round of drinks. After my friend and I left, we ran into a few people outside that asked us why we were leaving (joking around), to which I stated don't order mixed drinks - to which one of the gentlemen stated "The bartenders are not that great, especially not the woman bartender, she is rude and tried to "fluff" drinks". It's a shame, but we will not be coming back here.

Pizza is Awesome. Not a big menu and always crowded. Overpriced except at happy hour

It's definitely a great bar/drinking spot. I would not reccomend the food though. The only food that is good is the pizza. Lots of beer choices and the outside deck and patio area is great when the weather is right! Lots of table seating and ambient atmosphere. Karaoke on Thursday is a blast especially with bob behind the bar singing!

One of the best happy hours in the area - 1/2 price drinks and appetizers. Huge selection of bottled beer - especially if you like craft beers instead of the usual bud/miller. The bartenders are very friendly. Good mix of regulars and occasional customers visit here. The menu has a good variety of food and the food quality is great. The pizza is incredible - made to order and a really thin crust.

Hey I'm a fan of their food but the service was just A-Okay. We were there for lunch on a very busy day. I guess that was the real problem was they were under staffed. The waiter was really nice though and gave us our appetizer free of charge. I can understand that and it can happen to the best of them. I like how the place looked inside and it seemed to be newly renovated. They have a decent size bar with big HD tv to watch games. If you want you can sit outside and enjoy the nice weather while eating your food or enjoy the outside bar as well. The food is alway good when I go there so that's a big plus for me. We all ordered sandwiches (pork, sausage and peppers, crab, and cheese steak) and everyone really liked it. They give you really good portions too. The first time I went there we ordered some pasta (penne with vodka sauce) and that was really good also. I haven't tried their "famous" pizza yet but I plan on it very soon. They also have a really good adult beverage selection with a lot of different types of beer and wines. I really dig a place that has a good selection of beers.
