Valeski's Bi-Lo is a prize and a growing rarity: a family-owned and -operated grocery store that puts service first and foremost. They're not all that big, and not at all fancy compared to their giant competitors, but they have what you need when you need it, and you won't be waiting in line for 38 minutes. Unlike those monoliths, Valeski's doesn't skimp on staff. The last time I shopped at Martin's I ended up bagging half of my groceries myself, since there were six open registers and only 3 baggers--this after standing in line for over 20 minutes. There are always enough cashiers, and--how awesome is this?--they still have designated baggers who will load up your cart while the cashier is ringing you up. Heck, they'll offer to take your groceries out to your car for you. I've made it a habit to do all my errand-type shopping at Valeski's Bi-Lo, because businesses like this need to be supported. Of course, it doesn't hurt that they have a great deli counter and the best baked good in town, either. What they lack in exotic merchandise they more than make up for with speed, service, and accessibility. See you there.
