Mexican Cuisine
If you enjoy Taco Tuesday, then you have officially fallen in love with the Mexican Food. The main grain of Mexican cuisine is maize. Also known as corn, maize is grown for the past 9000 years after the crop was discovered by the people in Mayan civilization. Mexican empire flourished when they started growing beans, tomatoes, chili pepper, sweet potato and cactus. Till this date these ingredients are used in cooking authentic Mexican dishes and drinks.
Great use of spices, fresh chili pepper dishes like fajitas, tortilla chips, corn chips, salsa, chimichangas, burritos, nachos and quesadillas are invented in America. But when you are looking for authentic Mexican food then you must find a restaurant in the city that serves Rajas con Queso, Garbanzo in a Guajillo Chile Sauce, Pork Filled Chiles Rellenos, Chiles en Nogada, Molcajete Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Frijoles de la Olla. An eye-opening fact – Mexican don't like their food hot. They use fresh chili and other spices to create a flavor that lingers in your mouth.
Mexican food is great for those who are Gluten Intolerant as they use Corn instead of wheat in most of their dishes. Also, you can easily find many beans based Mexican dishes. Another dish which didn't get similar glory as tacos or nachos is the Mexican hot chocolate. If you love something hot on a chilly day, then go for Mexican Hot Chocolate. On merry days, you can enjoy the authentic Mexican Drinks like Tequila, Mezcal, Tecuí, Sotol, Bacanora, Charanda, Posh O Pox, Puebla and Pulque. Mexican Cuisine is for people who enjoy strong drinks and hearty meals.

Went for the first time the other day at my bosses recommendation. I was expecting a typical texmex type thing. It did have a lot of that type of element, but it also had a lot more of the sauces I would expect from a more authentic Mexican place. I ordered the giant burrito thing, because I'm a fat guy and can do that. It was pretty good. There was nothing that stood out about the food but the price was just right and considering the other options in NEPA for Mexican, it is a place I will be going back to on a regular basis. The service was about average. I'm all about service, so in a world were service is rapidly declining while the complaints about tipping rapidly increase, I tipped well. Definitely pleasant. Nice atmosphere. Some of the other reviews recommend the fried ice cream. I'm kicking myself for not remembering to order some. Maybe next time.

Although we usually like the food here (I'm actually "The Duke"), our last experience turned us off big time. We stopped-in recently on a Thursday night and they were featuring their $1 Taco "special." I like tacos with some chopped onion lightly sprinkled atop the ground beef, so I ordered mine that way because it was not included. While they tasted ok, I was surprised when the bill came to see that EACH one dollar taco morphed 80% to $1.80!! I then asked our waitress if it was a mistake. She then double-checked with someone in the back and reaffirmed that my paying the equivalent of a 5-lb. bag of onions was in fact my tariff for my half ounce or so. Are you kidding me?! Update: Instead of my receiving a truthful response and a mia culpa from the restaurant, it is sad and unfortunate when business owners throw their minimum wage earning employees under the bus for their very own mistakes or bad judgement.

A couple of weekends ago, I spent the weekend visiting my family and we ended up coming here, as my mother doesn't like to cook dinner on the weekends. The place has about 10 tables and it's BYOB. There's also outside patio seating which is probably great in the summer to drink a Corona on. The menu has all your traditional Mexican dishes, however most of us ordered the fajitas which came out sizzling and with heaping sides of refried beans, rice, sour cream, pico de gallo and guac. You also get a choice between corn or flour tortillas but I suggest the corn ones. The hot sauce on the table is really great - less kick, more flavor. My brother and I ended up using the whole bottle because it enhanced the flavor of fajitas so perfectly. Also, the horchata is nicely spiced and iced.

Very nice place. Refreshing for Honesdale. Meals were great, but one minor complaint: why would you use canned mushrooms in the fajita veggie mix? If you can't find fresh mushrooms (can't imagine), then don't use any.

Really happy that Fiesta on Main seems to be thriving in Hdale. Its a great spot with friendly staff, very good food and reasonable prices. I've been there a few times already, trying the tacos el pastor (pork/pineapple), chili rellenos, and the queso fundido. All left me satisfied and happy. I like that in the summer they do their best to buy ingredients from the local farmers. This is also the only BYOB place I know of in the area. I hope both trends catch on. With so many of the restaurants in the area doing little more than reheating their Sysco deliveries and serving greased out entrees I'm more than happy to Yelp the good news about finding this gem on north Main street.

Our family had a delicious dinner here tonight. Excellent service, homemade meals for adults and kids. The 3 enchilada combo was a hit along with any dish that had mole sauce. Don't miss this fun restaurant!!
(5)Steven B.
It's OK for the area. Seating can be uncomfortable when your sitting at a table for 2 right in the middle of the place. Watch out for being charged for extras. Ordered the chicken enchiladas mole poblano and said "heavy on the mole sauce please". They came out with a small dish with extra mole, OK. Get the bill and there's an added charge for mole. Had a friend say the same about another item. So, decent food, but don't divert from what they give you.

I am a "Gringa" who lived in Mexico for 20 years. I have been to many restaurants looking for that "Taste of Mexico" that I have been longing for, (even though I do cook many of the things that I miss). If a restaurant doesn't have HORCHATA, it is not an authentic Mexican restaurant! Fiesta's horchata is fantastic. Horchata is a rice "milk" drink seasoned with sugar and cinnamon and sometimes cardamon, (every family has their own recipe). It is the perfect drink, (besides beer), to accompany any meal. It's creamy and cool and takes away the spice of the meal. Next is the food. Fiesta offers taco's on a SOFT tortilla. This is the ONLY way to eat a taco. Any other way is TEX-MEX. All the food they have is totally authentic as the owner is from Mexico. He offers REAL Mexican food, not what he thinks Americans want to eat. He is offering an education into the tastes of Mexico. The place is CLEAN and you can eat here relatively inexpensively especially if you eat the daily specials. They also offers discounts on Senior Day which I take FULL advantage of. Come and enjoy the flavors of Mexico done in an authentic manner, without breaking the bank! Viva La Fiesta!

Food was good, but the prices are quite high. Ive spent about 10 years traveling all over the world enjoying great cuisine but as I stated its a bit overpriced for Honesdale. Colorado has some great mexican food for a much cheaper price, even in the lodo section of Denver. But its good to have a Mexican place in town

Best Mexican food I've had in ages! And who would have thunk to find it in honesdale pa of all places (no offense locals- I'm an ignorant out-out-towner, but I am aware that you're the birthplace of the american railroad and have the only synagogue in the country with a steeple- so really, all due respect) anyway back to fiesta on main-Very fresh ingredients, subtle herbs and spices. Salsa especially fresh tasting- not too spicy but flavorful. Chips are delicious and not greasy like at most places. My chicken fajita was fantastic, with the corn tortillas tasting very homemade. I tried the fish taco as well, which was light yet tasty. The refried beans were delicious and smoky, with an almost chorizo subtaste, though vegetarian. My one negative- The guacamole wad a bit too pureed for my tastes. Nice outdoor patio seating with salsa music playing on stereo and tiki lamps.
(5)David H.
I came on soft opening day so I am being easy on them. Good service. Good chip. Table salsa was a little bland and the chili relleno was tasty but the meat inside was like plain hambuger meat. They could use some ore decore. But hey it is shake down time. Try them out...they were very nice. They mark vegetarian menu items and I think they are doing well for shAke down day!

Super friendly service, nice ambiance and tasty food.

Thrilled that there is now great Mexican food in Honesdale. Music and decor, combined with pleasant staff, create a great vibe. Our food was delicious. Pork and pineapple in corn tortillas had great flavor. Carnitas were tender and juicy, but not especially bursting w flavor-still quite good though. We brought our own margaritas which our waitress was happy to serve us.

I think Julia is right on! I've lived in Mexico and this is some of the best Mexican food I've had since leaving. I had the Carne Asada tacos and the special of the day, enchiladas in three sauces. Both were phenomenal! We ended our meal with sopapillas. Food is not spicy, but very flavorful. I cannot recommend this place enough!
(5)Carolyn D.
Great Place, super happy that there is a little variety on main street now. I missed Mexican food. The food is amazing and large portions. A little pricey but worth it in the end. SO GOOD! I like to describe it as an explosion of flavors in your mouth lol

A little hesitant to try a Mexican restaurant in the middle of uber white bread Honesdale but boy, were my boyfriend and I VERY pleasantly surprised!! Lots to offer on the menu, and very, very fresh ingredients!! Many of their sauces are home made, like their guacamole, salsa and the awesome bbq sauce on the chicken wings my BF had and just had to rave about. I am vegetarian and they have lots to offer in that way too. I was not disappointed. Very good size portions, nice ambiance, and our server was just terrific!! She not only knows the menu and dishes backwards and forwards but she also engages customers with a very warm and outgoing personality. I regretfully did not catch her name but she is the one who is half Italian and half Puerto Rican. You will absolutely love her if you are fortunate to be seated at one of her tables. I would have given this review five stars but they lose one for being kind of over priced for this neck of the woods in PA.

Great Mexican food fresh and flavorful! Been to Fiesta serveral times always had great service and delicious food. Don't listen to the naysayers.
(4)Beatrice H.
Try the chicken and steak Fajitas. They are excellent, as is the service. The beans and rice come in a separate plate. Lalo, the owner is a cheerful fellow and the waitresses are eager to please. This is a gem and not to be missed!
(5)Ashley D.
I ordered the Mexican Flag Enchiladas and subbed out the rice and beans for grilled veggies. The enchiladas are made with corn tortillas and this dish has three different toppings - one on each enchilada. I liked them all, especially the one with the queso. Loved that grilled veggies were an option! This was a mix of the fajita type of toppings, peppers, onions and mushrooms. Very fitting for Mexican style food. Dessert - order the fried brownie bites with ice cream. Just do it... The back patio is so cute! Tables with umbrellas, tiki torches and plants. They play music with a Latino vibe outside too.
(5)Christine P.
Salsa and chips are homemade and delicious! Entrees are made with fresh ingredients and are excellent. Service was great. We will be back!!

Did not expect this at ALL !!!!! Excellent excellent food for Honesdale PA Coming from New York City where Mexican food is plentiful and great this place gets A++++++ Service was impeccable ...Ariel is a doll and made perfect suggestions. A must stop if you are in the area.
(4)Imani G.
Pleasantly surprised by this restaurant. The food & service were great. All of the garnish, onions, tomatoes, ect., were super fresh & the flavor of everything was great. The fajitas came out sizzling & did not disappoint. I would definitely go back!

Food was decent. Prices were reasonable. Lunch portion could be bigger. To much onion. Overall it was a good experience and we will be back.

I happened to stumble over this gem while in town on a business trip. I am a southern California boy, married to a Hispanic woman, so my expectations were high. The waitress was very friendly and thorough. The complimentary chips and salsa were the best I have had since I moved to PA from California. Ordered steak ala mexicana with shrimp. Very impressed. Probably a little spicy for the average person, but perfect for me!

My wife and I were looking for some place we haven't eaten before in Honesdale and found this place on Yelp. We were very pleased with both the food and service! We were able to park in the rear next to the restaurant. We ate outside for dinner and enjoyed the whole experience! We both love Mexican food and this place we will be back.

Excellent late lunch/early dinner. Recommended by Amanda @ Judy's Hairway to Heaven.. Great advice. I had Fish tacos. Husband had quesadilla special . We were. both happy with our choices. If we lived closer, we would make it a favorite restaurant.

Havent been here for the two years that following a very disappointing meal. So many have told me that this place has come so far above and beyond where they were the last time I was here in 2013 and it seemed like they used american cheese in everything, that I decided to spend "Cinco de Mayo" at the place. Ordered a lot of apps because i was afraid of what I might get... I guess we can chalk it up to growing pains because this place has really turned itself around. The tortillas (both the corn and flour) seemed to be homemade and had that soft deep flavor that i've gotten in Mexicali and Juarez. The chicken in the mini-chimichangas was tender and tremendously flavorful. The quesadillas... had real mexican quesadilla cheese in it! What a pleasant surprise. The Queso dip was a bit like paste... not recommended but that's fine... i can live with that. I am so happy with what this place has turned into. The back deck is a great place to spend a night outside. Forgot for a moment that I was in Pennsylvania. The chile rellenos were a little different than i'm used to, but were outstanding. Go for the vegitarian ones. Trust me i'm far from vegan... but there's a lot more cheese in the veggie option. They also come with Black Beans instead of the usual refried topped with crumbly mexican cheeses. Seriously good (though the refried were tops as well). The new recipies seem to be far more authentic and better than any of the Mexican alternatives within 100 miles of here... either at a chain or mom and pop. The menu is outstanding and I wish I could order everything. Next time, I just might... You have no idea how happy this transplanted NYC boy is to have some of the best mexican food i've had since Mexico. Thanks for going so much more authentic. I am so thrilled to have this kind of quality in my own town.

We had an excellent shrimp dish for dinner. I also had an order of flan for dessert which is the best I've had.
(4)Steven S.
Good food, not the best Mexican I've ever had, but a small town in Northeast PA it is a great establishment. I've had the Chimichangas on multiple occasions, they are delicious, the beef burrito was a disappointment. I will not be having that again. My favorite dish I've had there was the bbq pork burrito. It was basically pulled pork in a burrito. Muy Delicioso!
(4)Tanya P.
Handled our party of 10 aged 7 to 69 very well on short notice. No alcohol but Pepsi products and good iced tea. Chips and mild salsa to start. Generous portions of very good Mexican food. The chicken fajitas were very good. The burritos looked awesome. Friendly and attentive service.

Just what you would expect from a good neighborhood Mexican restaurant anywhere. That it's in Honesdale is the best surprise. Home made Mexican food that hits the spot each time. Great fajitas with fresh ingredients lovingly prepared. Their Chicken soup entree is yummy on a cold day. The chips and salsa just wonderful. Consistently good food for several years and that says so much for the area . The owners are friendly and make you feel welcome. Lovely patio setting in the nice weather. BYOB and your own tequila and the'll mix you up a great marguerita. We come often; there's painfully few options for an enjoyable meal out in Honesdale. Make it a regular meal out!
(5)Bob G.
Great service, good food, generous portions, all at a great price... Definitely recommend it!
(4)Keith P.
Visiting from out of town and was referred this restaurant from our innkeeper. Unfortunately the restaurant did not live up to the hype. The service was superb but the food itself was bland to say the least. only one refill on soft drinks. The only plus is the BYOB. Would not recommend.
(1)Matt F.
Food and service are great, best Mexian food in the area, by far. Definitely worth the trip from The Hideout. BYO as well.
(5)Greg D.
The food here is pretty good... I ordered twice and although the food wasn't excellent I have no complaints... Portions were large but you pay enough so they should be large. When picking up my take out the dining area looked really nice! The only thing they lack is a liquor license... I like Carona with my Mexican and I don't do BYOB (unless I'm at a strip club) so I definitely won't dine in! But if I had to choose a place on Main Street in Honeadale I'd pick Fiesta over ALL the others!
(3)Vivian M.
I was so happy when this place opened. Even happier when the food was so great! If they get a liquor license, I'll add the 5th star!
(4)Joan R.
We ate there tonight and did enjoy the food very much. Had trouble watching our waitress Danielle handle her hair which was not well-contained, and then handle our food. Then I saw her stick her finger into her ear as if to scratch an itch, and then I never noted her going to wash her hands. Not impressed with her standards of safe food handling.
(3)Rachel W.
The only thing worse than the food in this restaurant is the customer service. While most restaurants actually care about what their customers think and want to make their customers happy this place only seems concerned about their own opinion. Dine here at your own risk.

Nice people; bad food, This is NOT a place that is poorly run or has bad staff; the food is just not good. Sometimes when we discuss Mexican food a debate can spark up about authentic Mexican vs Tex-Mex, and this was neither. No significant spices (hot or otherwise). All items involving cheese were blanketed in some sort of bland liquid white cheese sauce. Refried beans tasted pre-fab, as did the rice. This one breaks my heart -- there aren't many Mexican restaurants near us and I would have been satisfied with "OK" but this isn't it.
(1)Steve G.
I've been here several times and the food is consistently good, as well as the service. I adore that it's a BYOB as well. It's not the best or most authentic Mexican food, but it's pretty darn good, the portions are ample, the prices are decent, and I always leave satisfied (which doesn't happen a lot in this area). Mainly its just nice to have something different than the same exact menu of deep-fried garbage every other restaurant has. Speaking of fried though, the fried ice cream is amazing, and big enough for a football team to share.
(5)Beth B.
Pleasantly surprised. The enchiladas were something to write home about. The only downside, BYOB, which I usually love, but 1. I did not know this until we walked in and 2. Really wanted a margarita, which is not really a BYO conducive cocktail.
(5)Alan C.
The food here is excellent overall. You can taste that everything is made fresh, the chips and salsa are addictive. The service is always friendly and knowledgeable.
(4)Rachel G.
ive been here twice, each time i go its empty then all of a sudden fills up. had the taquitos, which were good, the special appetizer plate once which im not really sure what was on it but i like 3 out of 4 things one was a straight up jalapeno. ive had the carne asada both times- the first time was nice, a big piece of meat seared nicely you could see the tastiness. the second time it was a little tiny thin piece that looked boiled. it was grey- not a hint of any searing.. if i didnt have such a good piece the first time i might have accepted it but i knew it could have been better. the sides are good, i sub the black beans instead of re fried. would still go back maybe try a different dish.

This place came highly recommended and with good reason. A Mexican restaurant in this tiny corner of PA featuring a chef from Mexico City? Yes, please. The food is comforting and deliciousness the service excellent. My BF is a vegetarian and I am gluten free. This can be challenging when dining out, especially in more rural areas. Not only does Fiesta on Main have a vegetarian menu, but they make any dish possible gluten free as well. Our server, Vivian recommended the Angus beef steak quesadillas on corn tortillas which were tops. BF got the amazing chile rellenos, huge platter all fresh ingredients. All in all, a great surprise in the middle of a sleepy part of the state.
(5)Tara G.
We love this place! The food is tasty, service is great and the prices are very reasonable. We have had just about everything on the menu and haven't had a bad meal, yet. It's also nice to have a Mexican restaurant in the area other then just another Chinese and Italian place. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who's in the area.
(4)Mountain Chick T.
I hate to do this because we desperately need decent restaurants here, especially ethnic ones but the beef taco was awful, the chicken mini chimis had hardly any chicken in them, and the waitress was awful and I don't think she understood English well enough to be taking orders! She brought beef chimis instead of chicken, the wrong type of enchilada, and a Coke when asked for a bottle of water. Going down hill. Management please take notice. Fried ice cream is awesome.
