Solid Deli in Honesdale. Not really close to anything, but if you are out of your way and down the street from the Alpine craving some Italian food, this is the stop. Don't let the mini-mall get you, its good!

Delicious italian sub! Antipasto was tasty! AMAZING SERVICE with a team effort. Service like this is hard to find, if not extinct! Oh, & the canola was perfect! Please open up shop in Western IL.

I am a huge fan of subs. I generally go out of my way to order from all the sub places in town just so I know who is the best. Arthur Ave is great. I went for lunch twice. The staff was friendly in that Bronx "don't be a douche and we won't treat you like one" kinda way. Also, the waitress was attractive. I ordered a salami and provolone sub. Lettuce, tomato, oil, vinegar, salt, and pepper with a side of anti-pasta. Everything tasted clean. The anti-pasta didn't taste like the hodge-podge mess most other places in town taste like. It tasted like someone actually cared about the flavors. I will be eating here again on a regular basis and recommending it to friends when the subject comes up.

I was in town for the weekend with my girlfriend. After a terrible dining experience the night before at one of the local establishments we needed some good food. Arthur ave was referred to us by someone at the place we were staying. The food here was delicious and the customer service was even better. Would highly recommend this restaurant for anyone. Had the Philly cheese steak and fries and my lady had the chicken Caesar salad. We were both happy with the meals. She also ordered a chocolate cannoli and loved it. Two thumbs up from me.

Stopped here for a quick bite - subs were quick and delicious. I got the sweet sausage and pepper hot sub... Delicious. My husband got a cold sub with fresh mozzarella, he also enjoyed it! I would absolutely go here again... Maybe to try out the fresh cannolis!

I live in North Jersey and have a vacation home up here. As good as any Italian deli in the metro NYC area. Super friendly staff.

The only place to get Semolina bread and cannoli shells. Great hoagies and pasta dishes. The Chicken Arthur Avenue is excellent.

Great food, good prices, wonderful people. First, try their canolis- oh my goodness they are delicious! Secondly, the people are great. The first time I ate there not only were they friendly and efficient, but they were attentive and made sure we had everything we needed (not what you expect from a deli, right?), then at the end, when they had wrapped up half my sandwich for me (I couldn't finish it all and needed room for a canoli), being the clutz I am, I dropped it on the floor and the container opened showering the place with lettuce and whatnot. Incredibly embarrassed as I was, they swooped in and took care of it, told me not to worry about it, and then gave me a WHOLE FREE sandwich to replace the half that I had dropped. Customer service like that will definitely keep me coming back!

If you are a foodie in Honesdale... I'm sorry, there is not a lot for you, but there is Arthur Ave Italian Deli. I went to high school in Honesdale and wrote a glowing review of Arthur Ave for the school newspaper. It is still (more than five years later) has hands down the best food in Honesdale. To start, the deli is owned by two brothers who are friendly and professional. In the past several years, they have added a waiter who looks like a local (in contrast to the two brothers who are clearly from the Bronx). I don't know where they found this waiter but he is a real pro and a good addition to their staff. The food... it's simply fantastic. Not only are the sandwiches large (always get 12 inch subs, they are a better value and so good that you won't mind leaving with left overs) and spectacular but their hot dishes are equally impressive. My experience is that many patrons enjoy the subs without trying Arthur Ave's various chicken and pasta dishes. This is a mistake. If you do not have time to dine in their meals are great for take out. In particular, I would recommend any of the Chicken Toscana, Chicken Arthur Avenue, Chicken Diana, or Chicken Scarpeillo. Further, if you are dining with a family I would recommend getting one dish with a white sauce, one with a garlic sauce and one with a red sauce. If you are not careful, you can wind up with more than one white sauce which can get a bit heavy. Recently, Arthur Ave got a liquor license and sells beer and wine, although I have not yet had an opportunity to imbibe there. Finally, Arthur Ave also does catering platters, so if you are having a party with guests that enjoy Italian food, do them and yourself a favor. There is only one eatery in Honesdale that I am sure to get to every time I am home. It's the Arthur Ave Italian Deli.

What a great place to eat. The food is wonderful and the service is far superior to most. If you want a very special treat order the chicken Sorrentino, wow!!! Portions are large so splitting a dish and perhaps ordering soup and chef salad or plan on taking half home. It's like eating in an Italian restaurants in NY. We have eaten there several times and have never been disappointed.

Either everyone's a regular or everyone's treated like one in this cheery, authentic, deli/restaurant/caterer. Shows what owners who are on the line all day can do to produce quality and character. Our first time here was Christmas Eve, with customers picking up pounds and pounds of Italian cookies and cannolis. My sweet sausage hero with onions, peppers, mozzarella and sauce was just right. My wife had a cold hero with prosciutto, roasted red peppers, mozzarella and balsamic glaze that also was great. We're in Honesdale a couple of times a year. We'll return here, I'm sure.

UPDATE: If you order "An Italian hero sandwich" what you get is pretty nondescript. What you WANT to order is the Sopraseta or Capicola, with fresh mozzarella, roasted red peppers, and balsamic glaze. |Trust me on this one. Superb.

We don't often get to Honesdale. Since we had business with the County yesterday, we checked on-line here to find a place for lunch. We chose Arthur Avenue and we're so glad we did. Tucked away in a strip mall near the K-Mart, it should be easy to find. This is a true New York style deli that would have no problem thriving near its Bronx name-sake. We were seated and served immediately. Our lunch was simple steak parm sandwiches and fries. When lunch came, I felt like I was in New York. Arthur Avenue is well worth a special trip, even though I hope to never return to the Court House.

This is THE place for Italian food in this small town! Savoring the cannolis makes me feel like I'm back in the city. Don't miss out on the grilled chicken, balsamic vinagrette, and fresh mozzarella hero either. The guys here are very friendly and down to earth, serving big city food with a small town welcome.

Stopped in here for a quick take out dinner and ordered a Shrimp Parm hero for me, and the Grilled Chicken hero for the mrs. We both enjoyed our food and are looking forward to going back again.

Italian Cuisine

The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.

Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.

If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
